Reviews for AAE 11th Avenue Hostel
Review 1:The WiFi did not work well in my room or even in the common room. I needed it for my work and it only worked in the lobby - which was busy and noisy at times.
Review 2:The staff was super friendly and helpful and the room was very clean and comfortable.
Review 3:it was abit noisy during night time, so ask rooms at back. funny thing is they keep the plastic package of those mattress, maybe in order to keep them in nice condition. however you can almost wake yourself up while you turn over when sleeping.
Review 4:you probably would not another hotle with lower prices. location is acceptable, staffs are nice.
Review 5:Parking and no towels
Review 6:Everything was above average, but building itself is in need of some updating. My only real complaint was the absence of towels or any sort in my room. Of course I realized this after getting out of shower, ended up having to dry off with a pillow case. The parking was a challenge as well. But I'd stay there again.
Review 7:Almost unusable WiFi connection, very long delay before changes in water temperature took effect, noisy fan just outside our door, windows let in a lot of street noise, cold air and light (no curtains), weird plastic sheet between the sheets and the mattress, few hangers, noone entered the room to make the bed or take out the trash during our 4-night stay
Review 8:Cheap price, nice staff, good location, room pretty big, carpet seemed new-ish
Review 9:Dingy, old, blinds only went halfway down window, there was pubic hair and menstrual blood in the shower :(
Review 10:Location was downtown not far from food and art museum.
Review 11:You do a prepayment, then the reception does not know anything about prepayment and claims booking.com took this as a commission. A bathroom with a bathtube that is rocked down without shower is not usable...so I had to use the common showers on the floor
Review 12:Location is excellent
Review 13:Got bitten by some unknown bugs. Seemed like chigger bites. Never saw any insects. With no AC, the fan provided was too small. Providing washcloths in addition to towels would be helpful.
Review 14:Location and value
Review 15:Noisy with thumping nightclub/bar so no chance for any sleep.
Review 16:Building is clean and kept up. Parking is close by. Nice coffee shop around the corner.
Review 17:Incredibly overrated place.Old building, no air conditioner, extremely hot rooms, plastic covering the matress and very expensive place considering what they offer.
Review 18:Location is good.
Review 19:Too hot in the rooms. these are not air conditioned and with 30 ° C outside is impossible to sleep in the bedrooms. we have to sleep with the windows open, but the street noise makes sleeping impossible task. Cleaning the room and sheets is also very doubtful.
Review 20:the friendliness of the staff
Review 21:The room was extremelly outdated, little bit bad smelling, tiny.
Review 22:Hotel is really close to the golden metro station, you can walk to the downtown too (30 minutes). There are some cozy bistros in the Mexican neighbourhood.
Review 23:There was literally no A/C or fan in my apartment!! I had to crack open the windows just to get some air in my room. The bed was also very uncomfortable which was compounded with the heat in the room, equaling to a rather unpleasant night sleep.
Review 24:I liked the location of the hotel, which was walking distance from many great restaurants and 16th street mall.
Review 25:There is a fan but no air conditioning. Poor lighting. One shower room for 10 to 15 rooms and I had to queue for 30-45 minutes in the morning. Expect cold water sometimes. They didn't have any travel adapters. Small lockers and not very clean. Iron and ironing board are available but not always. Laundry is there but freaky. The beds are very old and extremely noisy. The nearby street was also noisy during the night. Wifi was ok but slow.
Review 26:Generally clean. Staff are alright. Store downstairs was good.
Review 27:Our room had no curtains on the window, and the mattress had an uncomfortable plastic cover on it.
Review 28:Room was cheap, close enough to walk downtown. Staff were friendly.
Review 29:I've stayed in many hostels before and they all seem to have the same thing in common. There's a young international staff that goes above and beyond to make sure you're having a great experience, they make up for the quality of the place. It feels like a community when you walk in the door and you leave with many friends. This wasn't the case at all at 11th Ave hostel. The staff was grumpy and not very catering to needs. They seemed annoyed to be there. Which was proven when they were arguing with guests on the porch in the middle of the night. The building itself is pretty old, which meant there was not A/C. After a 99 degree day in Denver, laying in the bed at night was torture. There was no air flow in the building, so I had to jump in a cold shower multiple times to feel like I could survive the night. I ended up sleeping in a chair next to the window. The bed was uncomfortable because of the protective plastic under the sheets. The garbage trucks arrived around 7 and stayed in the alley way for a couple of hours. It was noisy, hot, and uncomfortable. I probably slept a total of 3 hours and was itching to get out of this place.
Review 30:The location right downtown is perfect if you're wanting to explore the city of Denver.
Review 31:noise, small locker, poor bed in dorm room, no AC in dorm room, feeling of unsecure
Review 32:location is within walking distance of downtown. transportation is convenient.
Review 33:No air conditioning but I could have brought a small fan. Good Ventilation in the halls. Older hotel, older carpet but clean and no odors noted.
Review 34:Close to the Capital, museums, Library, and 16th st. Free Mall Shuttle. Great places to eat right on the same block. Staff were exceptionally friendly. Free WiFi was great. Perfect value for someone who needs an inexpensive place to sleep and does not care about frills.
Review 35:If this place were in East Germany, it would still only get three stars.Slightly funky smell. The water in the shower oscillated betweenMinnesota in February and Mordor. Bed had a crinkly plastic under-sheetthat made it feel super sleezy.
Review 36:It was cheap! Couldn't really beat the location. Right next to theart museum and a bike rental rack. Also, it was super cheap. Withinwalking distance of some really cool bars. Excellent nightlife. Did Imention it was cheap?
Review 37:Not a big problem for me - the shower temperature would fluctuate which was a little annoying, but that was it.
Review 38:Excellent location to downtown. Hotel is older (built in 1904), but it has character!
Review 39:you get what you pay for here. the bed was uncomfortable and you could tell someone was smoking marijuana somewhere in our hall near our room. the people above us paced the entire night and the club next door was right outside our window.
Review 40:The price was very reasonable. the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 41:The other types of people staying in the hostel. Not an international hostel, all kinds of people staying. As a single female it was fine for one night but wouldn't have stayed another.
Review 42:The bathroom and kitchen in the room and
Review 43:We had a random dude outside our window yelling for a "Devin" at 7 and 9 in the morning for like 10 minutes at a time. Couldn't get a good nights sleep as my name is "Kevin". The quality of the bed didn't help either.
Review 44:Staff was helpful! Good bang for your buck.
Review 45:Well, it is a cheap accomodation, and you get what you pay for. The furniture (including the bathroom) is very old. The wifi, while in average usable, was far from stable. The windows don't have any acoustic insulation, so expect some noise.
Review 46:The location is just perfect, being only a few blocks away from the city center. The price is also very good. The personel is excellent, very friendly. The room was clean.
Review 47:No curtains for the window , and the noise from the street , sometimes from corraidor,.
Review 48:The staff were amazing, the location was good even for walking ,.
Review 49:The wifi connection was really poor from my room (302). There are no towel or bath soap provided (not an issue at all, but keep it in mind when you pack for your trip).
Review 50:The location was excellent. The staff was really nice and helpful. The building is old and not very fancy, but everything is clean. I would definitely stay there again if I go back for a long week-end with my husband and baby girl.
Review 51:The kitchen had poor facilities. There's no stove so it's hard to cook anything decent. The oven is a toaster oven so not really very good for cooking anything either. Wifi was really bad, it constantly dropped in and out. The whole place is old and tired and needs a lot of work doing to it to bing it up to the standard of an average Hostelling International hostel.
Review 52:The staff were very nice and helpful.
Review 53:This hotel looks, feels and smells like it is still in the Victorian Era. I felt like a gold miner bathing in the standalone bathtub! It was great :) It might not be so great for someone who wants
Review 54:It was a brisk walk to the Sheraton. The 0 bus going to downtown is also easy and accessible from 11th and Lincoln if you don't want to walk 5 blocks.
Review 55:Everything. Building internally looks horrible. $20 to allow a guest to your room for the night even if they are just helping you up the stairs with your bags (no elevator). The room had a weird smell. You can't control the temperature so with 40 degrees outside, it was about 85 in my room. Finally the BUGS. Yes, there were bugs in my "recently cleaned room" and eggs under the PLASTIC-wrapped bed (yes it was wrapped in plastic along with the pillows). Left after one day. Went to La Quinta and thought it was the Holy Grail compared.
Review 56:The location is close to a lot that I wanted to see. While the location was nice, Denver offers an amazing public transportation system
Review 57:Despite how great the staff were, there was one guy who we had a few incidents with. He cleaned the common room in the morning (bear in mind there's no time that this is closed for cleaning or whatever,) and on two occasions when we went in to make ourselves coffee/breakfast etc before 9am he asked us to leave. The first time he told me it was closed so he could clean up and to come back in fifteen minutes. I thought nothing of it, but we had to leave to catch a bus and so ended up eating out. The second time my boyfriend was going in to collect our coffee - he was told it would be closed for twenty five minutes and when he said "sure, I'm just gonna grab this coffee" the guy started banging things around and being quite rude about it. We explained to the staff and they apologised and had a word with him (I think he's supposed to work around the guests!!) but that was the only thing really. Of course this is a personal experience and shouldn't put you off going there but it's just what we didn't like about the place. Also they'd left the plastic on the mattress (obviously as a protector) but I wasn't comfortable on this and Everytime one of us moved it crunched!!! I'm fussy about beds though :)
Review 58:We liked the location, we didn't have a car with us so it was great to be able to walk everywhere. There's a corner store next door that's cheap for food and beer. Initially we were put into a room that we didn't like - it was clean but very dark, the windows were facing a wall and when we went into the bathroom there was an old bathtub and no shower :( we asked to change (as when I booked the room looked nothing like that and I know it's a hostel but we did expect something a bit nicer, due to the website) - and the staff were extremely helpful and polite about this. There's a common room where you can store your own food in boxes in the fridge and label it, there's games and books in there too. No cooker, but a coffee machine, kettle, microwave and a pizza oven that can be used as a toaster. Once we were changed to another room it was much nicer, we had a lovely walk in shower and TV in our room and we were overlooking the street so it was much lighter. The staff were great - we asked for directions and little things like envelopes and where things were and they could not have been more helpful.
Review 59:If You stay to the front side, it will be loud (city-like !) because the traffic- Over late night till morning it's better. The Hotel is some old and You'll find f.e. old radiator like in the Molly Brown House. The WiFi was not the fastest. So If You expect a comfortable shiny new modern (and more expensive) Hotel - this Hotel is NOT for You.
Review 60:Museums close by. The Free Mall Bus is just about 5 to 10 Minutes walk away. Or You can use RTD-Busses in front - / near back - of the hotel. In the neighborhood You'll find some good and reasonable bars and restaurants. So a perfect Hotel for Denver-Visitors who want a good sleeping location for their viewings in Denver. By the way the description on their Homepage are perfect. About Transportation, Things to do and so on.
Review 61:Drive-by shooting around 2 am Sunday morning. It is not safe to walk around the area at night. There are several homeless and sketchy people out on the streets. Try not to stay here on Friday & Saturday nights, it's noisy due to the neighboring bars. There was an extra charge from a third party biller (not booking.com).
Review 62:Location was walking distance to the Colorado Convention center where I worked.
Review 63:no shower system and daily room cleaning which I don't like it .
Review 64:the location was really good very close to most popular sites and downtown Denver. Staffs are ok and o stayed in a single room condition was ok
Review 65:Sadly I have to add that the cleanliness of this hostel/hotel was well below par, I felt I couldnt use the toilet or shower as they were not well maintained. One night I left my room and went to the bathroom , upon exiting a man was just stood right outside staring at me I had to run back to my room because I was scared. They have an open door policy and sadly it does attract some not so desirable people. Had I been travelling alone I would have left here my first night. There were no curtains In our room and heating was loud and noisy waking us up all night. However if you are after budget, travelling with more than one of you (I would not recommend female only travellers) and you are not planning on staying in a place for a long time, just say to pass through and see the sights this is ideal, for budget but not experience. I felt personally very unsafe.
Review 66:Great location, friendly knowledgeable staff of area and surrounds, budget friendly - perfect for larger groups
Review 67:The building is too old with almost no sound insulation. Especially for the room facing the street, they are really noisy.
Review 68:I lived in a single room. The room is clean, the staffs are ver friendly, and is quite close to the convention center.
Review 69:The wifi barely worked at all. The rooms were pretty dirty, found a bed bug, cockroach and a piece of glass in the bed. Shower stopped working whilst using it.
Review 70:The only positive were that the staff we had contact with were helpful and friendly. The location was pretty good, close walk to most popular attractions although it's by a nightclub so woken up by loud drunks and one night there was a shooting right outside, made me feel very uncomfortable
Review 71:Room was slightly outdated No heating or cooling
Review 72:Next to clubs Price was awesome Staff was surprising friendly despite other reviews Restaurant next door 16th st mall was only a few blocks away Nearby parking was $5 for unlimited time
Review 73:Shame they don't have a stove so you can cook your own meals.
Review 74:The location is awesome. Arriving late isn't a problem either. The dorm I stayed in had its own fridge and TV which was a definite plus especially when it's snowing. Staff is great. The Wi-Fi reception wasn't so good in my room, but it worked, however slowly.
Review 75:I was very sorely disappointed with this hotel. The moment I walked in, the clerk started tacking on additional fees and deposits. There were no usual room amenities, such as soap and shampoo. Towels require a deposit. We were met with all sorts of unsavory characters, most of whom looked mostly homeless and/or engaged in prostitution or drug dealing. One individual stopped us in the middle of the hallway to ask if we smoke weed. We had to switch rooms because the original room had a bed with dirty sheets infested with some bugs. There was still someone's hair in between the bed sheets.
Review 76:Ask for Room 322. That appears to be the best room of the establishment.
Review 77:The facilities are very old fashiomed - windows, everything in the bathroom, TV etc. The heating system was old as well, and it worked on and off.
Review 78:Probably the location was the best (and only good) thing. It was close to downtown, but still in a shaky neighborhood with himelass people around.
Review 79:My reservation was changed without my knowledge and "upgraded"to an overflow room (think closet) for an additional $40. My reservationwas wrong to begin with and though I spoke with "Frank" tores. Clerk 3 times, upon check in and discovery of the room and ratechange, the clerk on duty was rude, called me a liar, finally said Iwould be refunded...but I was not refunded. Dont waste your time ormoney here. It is cheap, but not worth it! Bad Bad Bad experience.
Review 80:Nothing at all.
Review 81:About 1/4 of the rooms, facing 11th Ave, will be exposed to loud music coming from the club next door until 2 am between Thursday and Sunday. If you want to catch some sleep before 2am, make sure you tell the hostel NOT to put you in those rooms.
Review 82:Room faced main road so a bit noisy A bit on the shabby side but noticed rooms were being upgraded
Review 83:Location - close to city and food market nearby Friendly and helpful staff - 24 hour cover
Review 84:There was no heat in the room. While there was a tub there was no shower - the tap was tiny and poured straight into the drain... I used a cup.... Taking a bath in a cold room was less appealing to me.
Review 85:Accessibility Proximity to town Size of room - comfortable
Review 86:I stayed in October with warm weather however I imagine that without airconditioning it would be very uncomfortable in summer.
Review 87:The hostel location was very good, being so close into town with the free buses travelling in the 16th Street Mall and Amtrak station at the other end. The staff were very helpful in a comfortable building.
Review 88:Everyone working here is wonderful, place was clean and spaceous, wasn't bothered by noise from street or other rooms. Held our bags for us after checkout. Basically a really well-cared-for place. Great little spot!
Review 89:It's a run down building but is clean (which is the most important part). The facilities are old and incomplete, I got a private room with ensure but it had no shower, curtains and tv had no remote)
Review 90:Good location and friendly staff
Review 91:Lack of cooling, noise level, lack of crockery, cutlery and utensils iN common room, poor wifi.
Review 92:Staff friendly and helpful, room and bathroom a good big size, every easy access to Denver arts complex and city centre.
Review 93:Street noise (why not install better windows while remodeling the rooms?) Bugs in rooms (pest control was busy next morning, so it was probably not just in our room)
Review 94:Location, friendly staff. Somewhat remodeled room, good price for downtown
Review 95:Bed had big spiral springs that you could easily feel... bring a pad for yourself.... bring all of your toiletries... it's bar and no place to set things down in the bathroom... get over it. : )
Review 96:I'ts close to the Denver art Museum. And, it was really clean, kudos' to housekeeping. It's an old, old building with a history and a lot of interesting gusts... not the least bit upscale... people are there to save money. Great Staff and good system of housing people. Good for adults minding their own business... in and out. Excellent location in relation to the Denver Art Museum. My room was on back side and amazingly quiet with view of a brick wall... you get the idea.
Review 97:I've stayed in Hostelling International hostels in the US and two other countries: They never looked as bad as this one. This is NOT a H.I. hostel. The building is crumbling. The guest rooms and bathrooms were dirty. The lighting was dim. The beds were uncomfortable. There is no elevator in the building. Parking is $5 per entry (not per day). Neighborhood is loud at night. If you have a car there is no reason to stay here over a suburban motel.
Review 98:The staff was friendly and helpful. We originally booked for two nights, and 20 minutes after arriving we asked to reduce our stay to one night. Frank and staff worked with us to refund one night's payment. We thank them for their assistance.
Review 99:About half of the staff can be extremely rude, I suppose they assume since you are staying at a hotel, your actions are instantly scrutinized. The WiFi was a joke, only about 15 channels on the tv but no remote, roaches in the rooms, you have to ask for hand soap, I was even asked to change rooms because they thought I was checking out a day earlier than I booked so the room that they were wanting me to move to didn't have a bathroom - I refused.
Review 100:It was near downtown, so that helped a little. Plus I was able to catch up on all the latest songs played in night clubs because of the club located across the street from my room, and with the lack of curtains for the windows, everyone on the roof deck of the club could see me perfectly!
Review 101:Sharing bathrooms w/strangers Bunk beds remind my colleague being in bunkers in the army (very uncomfortable) Outdated furniture Cockroaches in room had to leave lights on Noise from outside didn't let us sleep
Review 102:Location
Review 103:slow / not working internet, whirring air conditioning from reception close to my window, ugly mattress, narrow twin bed (not more than 120cm), cockroaches in the bathroom (2 during 1st night, another in the morning) - disgusting, I checked out because of this after first night - I have heard just "I apologize" at the reception - no money back (at least for the 2nd night), for 120 dollars expensive fun
Review 104:location
Review 105:There was only a bath in the room, it didn't work, so we used the communal shower. There were no curtains on the windows! Hard to sleep with that. If there were curtains, I'd say this is an adequate place to stay on the cheap, but do not expect anything more than that.
Review 106:It was clean and towels were available. Service was friendly.
Review 107:There was no A.C., and the only fans in the whole place were in the hallways, and it was stifling hot during my stay in July. The place needed a lot of repair: the carpets were stained and the windows didn't latch or didn't open.
Review 108:The staff was friendly, and I wasn't kept awake at night by noise, even though there were nightclubs on the same block. There was cheap parking one block away - for $5 per entry, you could keep your car there as long as you liked.
Review 109:In the sink and the shower there were a lot of hair when I arrived. Some people staying there were very creepy! Most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. VERY loud street outside.
Review 110:Nice staff. Good location.
Review 111:, bed was shaped like a u , no support and woke with sore back. no air con or fan, so no sleep no comfort. but cheap hotel/hostel.
Review 112:was located ok, staff were ok.
Review 113:Furniture was rather dilapidated and the place was noisy.
Review 114:The establishment is operated 24/7 and we arrived very late because the Amtrak train from Salt Lake was 6 hours late
Review 115:No elevator and I was on the third floor... Also no offer to help carry my luggage up the many stairs...
Review 116:Close to State Capitol, food places and the general town centre of Denver. Close enough to the Amtrak station, as could use the FREE shuttle bus operating on the 16th street pedestrian mall. Generally good facilities, as you would expect from a hostel.
Review 117:A bit noisy. Next time I'll bring earplugs.
Review 118:The 11th Ave Hotel has so much character. It's 100 years old, but it wears its age surprisingly well. I loved the high ceilings, the decor. For a hotel as unique as this, a lot of the negatives just become quirks. No air conditioning, well, they didn't have it back then anyway. No provided soap in the bathroom, well, it's the cheapest hotel room out there, spending $1 on a bar of soap isn't a big deal. The key question, will I stay again? Yes, absolutely. You can't beat the location. From the train station, take the free 16th Street mall bus, then walk 3 blocks down Broadway. The value is spectacular. The styling is unique. The place has character. Is it for everyone? Absolutely not. The overly fastidious and closed minded need not apply. If you can't get over the character, you're best off with the same old, generic motel they build in every suburb. If you value unique experiences, you shouldn't miss out.
Review 119:I'm not very picky, so I don't really have any complaints.
Review 120:The staff was friendly and helpful. Good location close to downtown. Pretty limited facilities, decent cleanliness and comfort. Nothing fancy at all, but a good value.
Review 121:Very old building with no air conditioning. The staff do their best with fans. No lift Basic and not that clean in the rooms. Lot of dust build up No curtains at windows Worn and tired furnishings.
Review 122:Very good price Excellent location Staff do what they can It depends what you want. If you want very basic conditions while you explore Denver you have a winner. If you want comfort or luxury then this is not for you.
Review 123:Expect tv it almost has no other furniture. I pay for the money on the internet and when I go to the hotel I need pay for another $55 for 2 person
Review 124:The location is perfect, and it is not far to go to downtown.
Review 125:It was right next to a club that played loud music until 2 AM every night. I reserved a room with a bathroom and it wasn't available when I checked in. The windows didn't have curtains on them, so you can sleep as long as it's dark.
Review 126:The location is about it.
Review 127:The booking agency charged me ten dollars and didn't even have the room available that it said it did. There was no notification of an extra fee, and then the hotel staff told me it would only be 10%, but it was actually about 30%. I know this isn't the hotel's fault, but they need to use a different booking agency that does not screw over guests.
Review 128:It would be better to have a little stool in the room.
Review 129:There is a supermarket and several restaurants very close to the hotel. It is very convenient to take the bus to the downtown and the airport. Therefore, the location is excellent. The community room is also very convenient and helpful since it is equipped with many facilities you may need.
Review 130:The staff was very friendly and provided us with helpful information regarding the nearby hotspot cafés (RoosterCat) and public transit systems. The 16th street mall is just a short walk away. I very much enjoyed my visit and would definitely return to 11th Avenue Hotel!
Review 131:The internet connection in the communal room was very slow. I think the wifi was ok but not great to work with.
Review 132:I could walk into the heart of the city.
Review 133:Ok, the decore sucked. But I did like the red wooden hallway doors.
Review 134:No bugs, hot water, cheap and downtown. That's everything I want in cheap accommodations.
Review 135:Room could've been a bit cleaner..
Review 136:Really friendly and helpful staff.. makes you feel right at home..
Review 137:Alot of homeless begging for money in the area.
Review 138:Staff was very friendly, will stay again because of that.. Downtown is in walking distance.
Review 139:No mention of $10 cash lock and key deposit.
Review 140:Inexpensive and convienient location.
Review 141:funny mattress, old facilities
Review 142:knock off price.
Review 143:The man at the desk was pretty grumbly. In his defense it was late at night.
Review 144:a little not clean.
Review 145:Every room has a bathroom and TV.
