If you travel and maribor is on you way dont hesitate to go to the Orel. Advise. The city center is car free so go to Gregoriceva street nr 2 !!! Review 37：I booked the room back in December and arrived in hot July. I had booked a room with air conditioning; when I arrived in the evening i didn't notice right away that it had none. It was only when I woke sweating in the night that I realised, so the next morning I asked what could be done. Alas the hotel was full and I was told I couldn't be moved, and that due to a lot of walk in bookings all the air con rooms were gone, despite having booked mine 7 months ago. I argued amicably that logic suggested if i had a room without air con that someone else should have, then they had the room I should have, and could we not just be swapped and the other occupant bear the burden of bad luck, but I was told that as I'd already spent a night there it was suggested it was now my responsibility for their error which confused me a smidge. I said well shall I just check out and check back in again, but of course there were no rooms anyway. Later that day I spoke to Booking.com who arranged for my 4 night booking to be curtailed to 2 & the next day we checked out with no forfeit. A shame, but at least it got sorted amicably although not to the best result (staying there and being cool indoors). If you're not fussed about air con then no probs, however I do like to spend time in the room with some wine and planning the days ahead, but it was insufferable. Otherwise the hotel was great for the price.

Review 38：Fantastic location - Maribor is a great city with a network of streets lined with cafes, ice cream parlours (Slovene ice cream is better than their Italian neighbours in my opinion, closely followed by Hungarian ice cream) and bars. Hotel Orel has parking which as other reviewers have mentioned is tricky to find IF you don't put the effort in and ask the hotel before you arrive how to get there. I emailed a couple days before and a day later they sent written instructions with a PDF map attached, very easy to find then. The breakfast was great and the bed was really comfy, shower was amazing too.

The reception staff was super friendly and even walked with us while to show us shop we have asked. / Отличный отель. Review 49：I was forced to pay well over double the rate agreed to on booking.com, based on a slip of hand by the hotel. No explanation is given when they are in the process of adding in surprise costs, even as they should know that the customer is under the expectation of paying what's indicated at the time of booking. First, they put me into a room "upgrade" without notifying me at check in, but nothing was apparent that the room was different, nor did I ask for -- nor need -- any upgrade. Now that they did this supposed upgrade, the hotel is arguing that it will charge extra fees that were never announced in my reservation or at any point while I was there. The matter grew more complicated for various reasons that have to do with charging for a second person to share the room, but at a rate of 50% cost. I've never stayed in even a 5 star hotel that charges anything this extreme for a second guest. But in the situation involved, the second guest was supposed to be inclusive in the rate that an outside party is coving. The hotel is basically charging two separate parties (aka "double dipping"). They could have informed us of their intention to charge beyond what they knew we expected to pay, but they waited until we requested the bill. In fact, they were hesitant to produce it until I insisted -- simply because it was clear that they planned to charge my card whatever they liked after my departure. In the end, they will not yield at all. So I hope they enjoy the extra charging. We will not be back to this hotel.

Review 50：The exterior of the property looks like some semi-demolished 60's architectural nightmare. Part of it also operates as a youth/university hostel so perhaps the efficiency/service ethic is not considered to be so important. Apart from one receptionist, the others spoke only minimal English. The whole property is tired, a bit run down and in need of a major re-vamp. On complaining about the noise from a visiting tour group in the early hours of the morning, followed by a raucous bathroom repair job in the room opposite starting at 08.00, there was barely an apology. Breakfast selection was reasonable but nothing was replaced after the initial locust plague had swept through. Everything was closed down on the stoke of 10.00 whether one wanted more or not. Further, full payment was taking within about 30 seconds of my booking being made - another case of grab the money and think about service later. The property is also fiendishly difficult to find in the labyrinth of blocked streets and byways which characterise the centre of Maribor. Surely Slovenia's second city can do better?

Review 57：Where have these other reviewers been staying? This is a first class hotel. There is no problem with access or parking and its in the city's prime location. Spotlessly clean and extremely good value if you manage to get a booking.com room which is half the full price.

There is aunderground garage with elevator access but door of elevator so narrowjust 1-2 cm from each rear mirrors and also a problem to get insideelevator not only because ot lack of room size but because just next toit there are a lot of cars so no space for maneuver. I got a lucky andhad room thanks to booking for 72 euro but the usuall price is 120 eurofor that kind of simple room! It was no heating at night and we werewith a child. Old type fat tv and all is simple. No safe. Actually goodenough to spend one night if it would be warmer inside and if noproblems with parking.

Review 86：Needed to get hotel to lower electronic bollard to allow our vehicle to access the old town square where the hotel was located. There were two access points and of course our GPS took us to one that the hotel did not control. Had to park car and walk to hotel then get staff directions to the correct (northern) entry point, then drive around the one-way streets to the new entry point. Other than that all was fine. We did not breakfast there.
