Reviews for Ashworth by the Sea Hotel

Review 1:I called several weeks prior to staying to order a surprise bottle of wine and cheese tray to be put in the room for my boyfriends birthday; called the day we were arriving to make sure it was all set; and they still forgot it.... so disappointing

Review 2:The location was great if you are heading to a concert or event at the Casino ballroom.

Review 3:Indoor heated pool was closed and very dirty. A lot of gnats flying around the bar area. Sheets on bed had some stains. Put on same floor with noisy wedding party so no sleep. Very disappointed for the price.

Review 4:Location to the water. Staff was nice.

Review 5:Toilet and tub were dirty when we arrived. When we asked it to be cleaned, they partially cleaned toilet. This was the absolute worse $300 hotel we have ever stayed in! What a joke! I would never recommend it.

Review 6:Location

Review 7:The breakfast restaurant seemed disorganized. Coffee was definitely sub-standard. Windows were dirty. Food served cold and wasn't very good at all. If you can't make a good breakfast and serve it in a nice place after you've been in business as long as you have you need to forget fixing breakfast or start from scratch.

Review 8:Location was great. Staff very nice. Amenities good. Beach was awesome.

Review 9:Room rates were extremely inflated for the seafood festival. Bed was too firm for my taste. Extra 15 dollar a day charge to park at this hotel.

Review 10:You can't beat the location. Rooms were very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 11:My room was advertised as "partial ocean view" however I had the corner room and could only view the ocean from the far corner of my balcony. That was very disappointing.

Review 12:The room was a little small, but it had everything we needed and we didn't spend much time in the room.

Review 13:The location was excellent. We had a good view of the ocean. Parking (valet) was quick and easy. Nice, clean facilities.

Review 14:Room was a hole in the wall, literally. We stayed in the older side of the hotel. Expected A LOT more for shelling out $600 for two week nights there.

Review 15:Right on the strip, how much more convenient can you get?! We had partial view of the beach etc including workers of the hotel taking their breaks underneath our balcony smoking etc...

Review 16:rooms small better not bring suitcases no room for them carpets seemed dirty and old

Review 17:stafff excellent restaurants on location location on beach excellent

Review 18:Had to have our room keys reprogrammed twice in the two night stay. Room was cramped. Very noisy outside at night. Wasn't told there were automatic charges for valet service and additional charges on my card after I signed for the two night stay.

Review 19:The location was nice. Loved the bar area and bartender Mark. Great happy hour specials.

Review 20:The bed was as hard as a rock. Had to ask for extra pillows to sleep on. The room was tired and old. Wallpaper peeling off. Rugs looked dirty and old.

Review 21:The location was great. Staff was very nice.

Review 22:Location, valet, remodeled admitting desk area/foyer, live music on outdoor deck, access to dining, location. I would have scored bed higher if pillows were more comfortable. Too rock hard for my liking. Sorry.

Review 23:Room layout, small space for all the furniture. Room had a small round table that wasn't useful nor was the chair that was tucked in corner, wedged between the wardrobe closet and A.C.

Review 24:Staff was awesome. Other quests were very friendly.

Review 25:Some of the staff were friendly, some people were not up to part with customer service thing. The breakfast offered at the hotel was terrible, the restaurant nice but too expensive, too many charges and fees and rooms are too small for the price they charge.

Review 26:Rooms need updating. Sheets were stained. No hot tub in pool area . I was disappointed to hear upon check in there is a parking fee now but web site not updated.

Review 27:Hot food served in buffet was a bit cool, didn't care for taste of eggs, sausage, pancakes. It was a lot of money for a breakfast we didn't enjoy.

Review 28:Staff is wonderful, everyone was so pleasant, especially your valet crew, along with maintenance manager. Had some car troubles and they were so helpful and nice. Location was great.

Review 29:Unfortunately we booked late and our room 120 was extremely small for two people. However we stayed an extra night and was accommodated in a larger room with a balcony where we were able to view the fireworks, Thank You,

Review 30:Staff was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much. Very knowledgeable about their job. Would go above and beyond to find out if they did not know. Vale service was outstanding. Also, very courteous.

Review 31:....upon entering the room, we noticed how small it was. For the price that was spent, we were expecting something a little more spacious. Once inside we began to smell an odd odor of something. As the night prolonged we had to resort to opening the sliding door (since windows did not exist) to ventilate the room. The room came with no microwave which meant taking multiple trips down to the main area, through a restaurant in the event we wanted to heat up our beverages/food. Breakfast was not included in our expensive 2 night package for some reason. The room we had, had a partial view of the ocean but it wasn't a view to go crazy about. With cars and other objects obstructing the view, it wasn't a heel over toes view. Location is key and that's the reason why the Ashworth can price their rooms at such high price since the demand is so popular.

Review 32:The hotel is in a great location being that it's right across the street from the beach. Once we first arrived, we were greeted by the valet personnel who were nothing less than professional and courteous. No issues there. If you're planning on using your car during the stay, they will place your car nearby so retrieving it later would be swift. The customer service at the front desk was phenomenal. Professional set of staff members. Check in was a breeze. The paid breakfast was decent although extremely crowded at times which we dealt with. The comedy show was off the hook and was the 3rd to highest highlight of our trip. Overall, we had no major issues but issues did exist...

Review 33:The host at the buffet was rude and condescending. He was cold and abrupt. Not a nice man at all. The checkout was awful. People everywhere waiting for their cars. No room to move in the lobby.

Review 34:Balcony. Buffet set up

Review 35:The bed was uncomfortable and the rooms could use an update. Bar was out of many types of liquor on Monday so drink selection was limited

Review 36:We loved being by the ocean and it looks like the common areas are newly renovated.

Review 37:Limited menu for lunch, pricey, bartender that day at 3 did not have a clue (inside) waited on two people who just walked up to the bar after we had been sitting there for 5 minutes. we then ordered a drink outside, tasted like Lemonade, high price not a well made drink. It was 90 outside , pool area enclosed with hot air coming out of ceiling, bunch of kids in pool horsing around, no place to enjoy a swim, not to mention chlorine smell dangerously over bearing added in with the heat. my friend and I ran into a friends son there, he and his friend had a lot to drink, we told them they could stay with us, king bed with a couch. Your security person was rude to them and to us, the desk had my cell but no one bothered to call to let me know they were keeping them sitting in the lobby when they had a key, I get they forgot the room number (stated they are young and had too much) at your establishment I might add. They spent their money there all day and were treated like criminals. If that wasn't bad enough your security person came to our room after we had already spoken with him and desk folks when we came back for dinner. He started insulting me by asking if they were my son's, inappropriate, he had already looked at their licenses, again inappropriate and while I can understand a need for security of all guests he went way above in my opinion. All we were trying to do was the correct thing, I have never been so poorly treated in all my travels. The head of the valet and his staff were wonderful, other than this my first and last stay with you.

Review 38:nothing much except the friendliness and help of the head person for the valet service.

Review 39:The staff was very friendly! The employees at the sandbar were real friendly too! We sat right in front of the fireworks that they had on a Wednesday it was relaxing .

Review 40:Small room, small balcony no adult time in pool area kids there always.Pricy restaurant so so food. Had to pay extra 15 per night for valet parking and constant problems with slow valet service when trying to use car.

Review 41:Location, cleanliness, quiet when sleeping, pool warm and enclosed.

Review 42:pool area dingy and water was green. no umbrellas on deck could add a few. room was small for priced paid.

Review 43:room and dining areas were very clean staff was very friendly and personable went out of their way to make us comfortable. food was very good in dining room & cafe

Review 44:Was a bit further down the boardwalk than we would prefer. There isn't a pool. No smoking even on balcony. Check out is too early for a hotel located on the beach.

Review 45:The bed was nice and comfy as well as clean. Hotel is totally updated with nice features. The Breakers is a wonderful restaurant within the hotel.

Review 46:The hotel was recently renovated and looks beautiful. You will not find a nicer hotel on the Hampton strip. The hotel also offers entertainment and the bar stays open until 1am which is great since most others close around 10pm.

Review 47:I had my eye on a certain alcoholic beverage and dinner option, I was told they were both out of. I wanted to sit on sundeck to enjoy 1 drink, but was told I couldn't b/c of a private party. I wanted to sit by the window, but couldn't. It was just frustrating knowing that you wanted to stay there to experience all the hotel has to offer and was not able to, plus it was our anniversary.

Review 48:I liked the location and the fact that you have everything you need right on site:pool, parking, beach, restaurants, bar and entertainment.

Review 49:noise between rooms is awful. the way the rooms are layed out, the balcony's are right next to the beds, the people next to us were out on the deck till 1am,, they may as well been in our room,

Review 50:,great location, great staff, upper deck over looking the ocean.

Review 51:the valet weren't very friendly my room was not ready when I arrived

Review 52:the front desk held my bags until my room was ready so I could walk the beach and the boardwalk.

Review 53:The valet man on duty Saturday,May 2nd was EXTREMELY rude to us, and he was very unpleasant. It was very unexpected after the nice people at check in. Very unacceptable behavior.

Review 54:I thought the staff at the reception desk was extremely nice upon check in.

Review 55:I don't understand why since there's already a price increase in room that we also have to pay $15 a night in parking also o there then that was great

Review 56:Unfriendly desk staff. Talking in room with paper thin walls resulted in security knocking on our door threatening to call police.

Review 57:Excellent location. Short walking distance to Casino Ballroom.

Review 58:Walls are very very thin. Could hear person coughing in room next door as if they were sitting in my room. lciyld hear their conversation and they were talking in a normal tone. Had to keep tv on to avoid eaves dropping.

Review 59:The ocean view and the room were comfortable. High priced for off season

Review 60:No continental breakfast for the cost in off-season. Wasn't informed of valet parking and spent awhile driving around trying to find parking before we realized.

Review 61:The room and view were great!

Review 62:The rooms are very little and out dated for the cost of the room. Our view was a loud noisy roof assuming above the kitchen... we did get a glimpse of the Ocean from our balcony but to noisy to sit out there and an ugly view everywhere else. No vending machines either for late night munchies :/ which I find weird..... over all its a safe "clean" place to stay but expensive....

Review 63:The bar and the breakfast restaurant was nice staff friendly and food pretty good

Review 64:The pool area could use some renovation and the water could have been a little warmer since it is the middle of winter. But still enjoyed being able to swim in February.

Review 65:The beds were amazing, and every single one of the staff were kind, happy, helpful. We were upgraded for free to a better room with a better view. The restaurant had excellent food and great happy hour food and drink specials

Review 66:Overchlorinated pool, and water at table that sometimes comes from a chlorinated tap. Our waiter promptly changed it.

Review 67:Food, room with wonderful view, ease of parking, familiarity--we've been there 3 Thanksgivings now.

Review 68:Can't think of anything.

Review 69:Location was good, we were visiting friends in Exeter and wanted to see Portsmouth and Kittery. Room was basic but clean, and we had a partial ocean view. Valet parking people were super nice. Saturday night the hotel bar was busy with live music and locals, but the sound did not travel up to the rooms.

Review 70:We were there for a double class reunion. The dining room was not open for breakfast... only the cafe.. and there was a long line waiting to be seated. Hotel management should have taken this into consideration before deciding to close the dining room for breakfast. Our server was very rude after we paid our bill and gave her a generous tip. As we were saying goodbye to our friends who sat with us, she asked us to hurry and get out as others were waiting to be seated.

Review 71:Location.

Review 72:Early morning trash pick up and deliveries just outside our room on Monday morning. No hot tub in pool area. Higher costs for best rooms, food and drink than nearby establishments.

Review 73:Comfortable rooms, most with ocean views. Casual and fine dining, as well as a bar offers food, drink and entertainment without having to go out in bad weather. The ocean is across the street. Shops and arcades within walking distance. Parking is available.

Review 74:No refrgerator or microwave. Found coffee machine after requesting one--at the bottom of a dark closet. Room in the south tower was small. Evening restaurant staff was friendly but incompetent, as if run by partly trained back-up.

Review 75:One expects to pay for it, even at the very end of the season. The two restaurants were convenient, because most others along that part of the shore were closed. Morning staff competent and friendly.

Review 76:Was traveling with my son and his family. Asked for our rooms to be near each other. His room with 2 queens was in one tower and my room with a king bed was in another. I also requested a bath tub and received a room with a walk in shower. Also my room was very tiny.

Review 77:The noise level of the exhaust fan inbetween the two towers is awful. The heated pool was not warm enough.

Review 78:Restuarant food and service was pleasant. Easy walk to the beach.

Review 79:Pricey, very commercialized area. Food not available for later travelers except franchised establishments that travelers would be hesitant to eat.

Review 80:Clean, easy to access, great staffing personnel.

Review 81:Small, shabby room. stains on carpeting and bed cover. No safe or refrigerator in room. Stuffed lobster not very good. Rude hostess. Terrible omelet for breakfast.

Review 82:Friendly service in the restaurant. Good location.

Review 83:There is nothing we didn't like about our stay.

Review 84:This is our second time staying at the ashworth and we loved it the staff is very cheerful and helpful and the place is so clean .

Review 85:We enjoyed the breakers restaurant for dinner and their breakfast location on both the mornings we stayed. Our room had a beautiful view of the ocean and the seafood festival and especially the saturday night fireworks from out balcony!

Review 86:We are used to staying in five star resorts paying $200 to $300 a night... this was a lack luster hotel charging your card for merchandise you have not acquired. The maid service was rude, and intrusive. My room smelled of mold, and the vents weren't cleaned

Review 87:The staff that checked us in, and the valet....

Review 88:We were charged $15 per night for parking, but were on motorcycles that did not utilize either the valet or an official parking spot- we parked our own on the side of the parking garage.

Review 89:Friendly staff, classy facility, very warm pool

Review 90:Price was a bit steep for one night.

Review 91:It was very convenient location Off the street parking and was able to get to the vehicle if needed Very quiet Much calmer environment compared to last years stay a mile down the road.

Review 92:Note being able to get to my car to retreive beach items, as there wouldn't have been enough room in the room to store. Thought upon check out someone could have said, Thank you and Please come again. "The did down the street"

Review 93:Area was good and assessable to beach for awesome walks. The balcony was great but SMALL.

Review 94:We payed for a partial ocean view so I thought we would be able to at least see some beach from our window..only if you stuck your head off the balcony and looked around the building. I thought this was very misleading for the small room size I would have just payed for a basic room.

Review 95:The staff was very friendly and the location was perfect.

Review 96:Not enough time to do everything, free concerts, shops, arcades, sun, sand, surf.

Review 97:Great staff. You won't find better food & service anywhere else. Location is ideal, and you're in for FUN on the beach. Even that gets cleaned every day.

Review 98:Pillows were not comfortable. The food was not very good at main restaurant.

Review 99:Staying so close to the the beach was so convenient and relaxing! Breakfast was great - Awesome blueberry pancakes!

Review 100:We stayed on Sourh side of the hotel. The food delivery trucks roll in really early and woke us up. Two left their loud trucks running and the drivers were talking-no yelling- as they off loaded. This was pretty upsetting.

Review 101:Dined at the restaurant and it was delicious. Rooms were very clean.

Review 102:I have been a customer of the Ashworth Hotel for many years, my family has been coming here for years. I refer friends and family from all over to stay at the hotel. However, this stay with your hotel was a very unpleasant one. To start the women at the desk was very unprofessional and rude. I have been a manager myself for many years and work in customer service. She stated our room was not quite ready yet, that we would have to come back. She didn't even offer bell service to come and take our bags or anything. I don't even drive, I have a medical condition that allows myself from driving. My mother dropped my partner and myself off. The room I booked online was supposed to be 879.63 with taxes, however I look at my bank statement I was changed 924.63, and there is another charge of 75.00. I'm very upset! I don't know where theses hidden charges are coming from. I demand a refund! Not only is your hotel not worth the money I paid for. The conditions of the hotel and living space where quite terrible. The room was very unkept, it looked at though as housekeeping had not been in there for a while. There was about 1 inch of dust on the TV stand, night stands and TV. The bedding was torn and ripped, it also had looked as though some had already slept in it and remade it. The curtains were torn and ripped as well and covered in dust. Also there was a pair of old flips and a pair old socks found at the foot of the bed kind of disgusting and not hygienic. Overall not very impressed with the care of the room and service of the Ashworth Hotel. Will defiantly not be recommending this hotel to anyone anymore! Our overall weekend get away to Hampton beach was ruined, were very disappointed and unsatisfied we will not be returning as guests if nothing is resolved.

Review 103:Felt like we were hidden away from everything. Balcony was situated over tar roof. Could hear loud, yelling kids from the pool. Kids throwing kids into pool. Not sure if there was adult supervision but the some of the children were small.

Review 104:Primarily the location of the Ashworth and the restaurant food and staff.

Review 105:Feel you could do so much ore to roof deck with the right architect. The mouse level of trash/delivery in back of building

Review 106:Agnes band on rooftop awesome

Review 107:paying extra for parking ....the room needed update...toilet was stained looked dirty but was clean just stained....very expensive rate for this room

Review 108:location

Review 109:Room a little small, hotel restaurant expensive.

Review 110:View from balcony was awesome, excellent wi-fi, bed huge and comfortable, staff very welcoming, very clean, can't get any closer to the beach.

Review 111:-parking fee not included and not much discount from general public valet -smaller room than expected for price

Review 112:-Very convenient location to beach -very friendly staff -affordable breakfast at wharfside -clean, comfortable linens and bed

Review 113:Can't think of one thing.

Review 114:Location!!! the staff is excellent and very accommodating. The food and service in the three restaurants is very good. I stay at the Ashworth at least once a year. Always have been very pleased. Thank-you

Review 115:King room was a little small, not a lot of rooms for personal belongings (beach chairs, cooler, umbrella etc.). large bathroom but no counter space for toiletries. Very comfortable beds, but pillows were flat and uncomfortable.

Review 116:Great view, great staff (had a small snafu at check in, staff bent over backwards to get issue resolved) very nice restaurant on the premises, food was good, reasonably priced and staff was very attentive. Rooms were very clean and housekeeping staff were friendly and accommodating.

Review 117:Pricey for a small room. Got some ROTTEN fried clams in my seafood platter and couldn't finish dinner. They responded with "Oh well - it happens this time year". Noisy exhaust fans outside our balcony.

Review 118:Location. Beach.

Review 119:Loading dock/garbage starting at 6:00 am Breakers Restaurant staff unfriendly

Review 120:Right on the water Relaxing outdoor bar/restaurant Deck with view of the ocean

Review 121:no fridge in room.had to pay for parking.4 oclock to get your room.asked the desk lady t call us if room was ready.she never did.we walked down finally it was ready.

Review 122:room was nice.

Review 123:The smell of marijuana throughout the first floor and being evacuated and kept out of our room for an hour at midnight because of smoke alarms going off, which I'd presume was from all the reefer being smoked. For nearly $300 a night, I expect more.

Review 124:The man who greeted us was wonderful.

Review 125:The only problem was they called me at 4;47 pm for the room to be ready and check in is suppose to be at 3;00 pm

Review 126:The hotel was very clean and nice place to stay at.

Review 127:I was extremely disappointed with really everything except the location. This is one of the highest priced hotels on the strip and is certainly not worthy of the price! The staff (manager and another member who I interacted with) was just rude with zero personality. The guys running the valet were great though!! The room was tiny, you would think at $250 +/night you would have a decent size/location for a room. You have to roll your luggage through a restaurant to get to an elevator that you can barely squeeze in to. The food served for breakfast was poor quality and very overpriced considering the quality, roughly $15 per person The wait staff only had to get drinks as it's a buffet, a very small one, and she never came back to ask if we needed any more coffee. We waited for 15 minute just to get the check after we flagged down another server to get it...there were only 6 tables filled with three servers so it was not as if they were busy and just behind. Valet for the day is $20 for non guests but $15 for guests?! Again at the price of the room parking should be a free service. I definitely won't be rebooking with Ashworth!

Review 128:location of the hotel is great

Review 129:We couldn't use our balcony because it was on the side with the kitchen vents which smelled extremely greasy and loud. The whole room smelled like the kitchen vents outside on the balcony. Had to pay extra $ for a refrigerator and for parking when already paying $300/night on a Sunday night.

Review 130:The room was on Ocean Boulevard.

Review 131:The room was way too small, no refrigerator (extra charge) most hotels have a small one in the room NO CHARGE, the mattress was extremely soft.

Review 132:We liked the fact that the hotel was directly across the street from the beach.

Review 133:Trash truck at 630 in morning.workers smoking lounge under my deck.not being able to bring your own drinks on deck people getting locked out of their room slamming on their slider for an hour.

Review 134:bed had a huge dip in the middle small hard pillows Sheets wouldn't stay on the bed.

Review 135:staff front desk, cleaning and the guys parking the cars all excellent

Review 136:My daughter used the ironing board and iron that was in the room on a new shirt she has just purchased and the ironing board had ripped little holes in her shirt. I told the front desk but they didn't seem to care. The service in the restaurant was horrible but the food was good.

Review 137:The foul smell in our small room that seemed imbedded in the carpet & furniture. I shared this complaint with front desk staff who acknowledged its presence but did nothing to rectify! For that reason, likely will not return to the hotel.

Review 138:Location to beach. Roof deck entertainment. Restaurant within hotel.
