Reviews for The Sea Ranch Resort

Review 1:The front office staff was the least welcoming person I've interacted with in some time. She was not helpful, accommodating or informative. She did not smile. The "indoor pool" was misleading. It was encompassed by glorified green house walls and was very cold. Also, there was no enclosure and the setup required you to go outside in the cold. Not a good setup during the cool months.

Review 2:Great location.

Review 3:Location of room - not clear from booking information that an interior room with no view located to side of oceanfront buildings. Room dark, curtain didn't work, located right by public road to beach so noisy. Booking information should include complete details of hotel layout. Restaurant breakfasts mediocre. Should note that beach has seriously eroded in front of property.

Review 4:Location right on the beach so ocean was easily accessible.

Review 5:The bed was a little hard for our taste. Would be REALLY nice to have a screen door to the balcony because you can't leave the door open at night if the lights are on or the bugs come in.

Review 6:Best hotel on the Outer Banks as far as the view goes. Look down from your balcony and watch the waves crashing on the beach. King oceanfront room was clean and nicely furnished, nice little wet bar with sink, decent bathroom and shower. Good WiFi connection. Loved the Beachside Bistro in the hotel, really good food and excellent service! Big indoor pool. This place had everything we wanted for a reasonable price. Close to shopping and restaurants. We will book here again when we travel to the Outer Banks.

Review 7:Room smelled musky - maybe the nor-easter left a dampness in the building? Ample number of lamps in the half of the room with a bed, but no lighting in the sofa side of the room - no coffee table or end tables. Seemed bare bones. Disappointed that there was no spa as "resort" suggests. Public areas need renovation: replace chairs at pool, rehab pool bldg., visiably rusty AC units and fix areas on hallway walls swollen by some sort of exposure to water. TV seemed a bit small to watch from across a room.

Review 8:Beachside Bistro was convenient; food was good - their decor was attractive. Our bathroom was nice - obviously newly renovated. Bed was comfortable and king-size as requested.

Review 9:I don't have any negative comments re the hotel. We were very happy with our stay and will be back.

Review 10:The hotel is right on the beach. The majority of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant in the hotel is a plus and the food/service is great. Rooms have been upgraded since our visit last year and the property looks great. Beach was clean. Will be back!

Review 11:I could smell mold at nighttime, but I always travel with Lysol. The air conditioner at night was a little loud.

Review 12:I found the food good. The staff was friendly. I liked the location of my room. It was convenient for unloading and loading my car. I would stay there again.

Review 13:They described the room in the main building (I, and all of my party thought that meant the BIG building) not very clear about that.. We could not see much from our window NO BALCONY

Review 14:The beach was a very short walk away

Review 15:Not very informative about the room from add, was expecting something a little better for what I had read, the restraunt, didn't seem like one, especially the way the staff and other customers acted.

Review 16:Close to beach

Review 17:The carpet in our room needed cleaning and had some stains, but our maid service was attentive.

Review 18:We opted for an ocean view room after we got there, and it was wonderful, though a little pricey at $100 per night extra.

Review 19:Pool

Review 20:I want to thank Hanna for her kindness. She let us check in a little early. That was so great. We had traveled all morning and we're at the outer banks for my father's funeral. Thank you Hanna

Review 21:In the beach side Bistro the waiters didn't check as much on the tables an took more than 10 mins to come to the table for drinks or to give menus was very disappointed in that.

Review 22:The closeness off the beach front and the ocean front view...

Review 23:It was very expensive for what we had. The pool on Sunday night was very dirty.

Review 24:Location on the beach, clean, cosy rooms. Our room in the main building did not have the famouse ocean view, but we enjoyed the private porch with walkout to the yard. They have chairs and picnic table there on the grass.

Review 25:Staff at front not very friendly. WiFi did not work very well. I reported this but the issue was not resolved and staff did not seem overly concerned.

Review 26:Restaurant was excellent and very convenient. Parking was ample Enjoyed outside area for dining and entertainment.

Review 27:The rooms are older, smelled slightly musty, and didn't care for porch looking at parking lot - they could remove it and I'd be happy. But great home base to lay your head as planned to spend most time outdoors. Automatic doors at entrance would be helpful. Indoor pool looked very nice.

Review 28:Staff was very nice and went extra mile. So nice to have small bar/resturant on property. Food was good and great value. Liked free snow cone bar set up daily! very nice! Kids loved! Rented beach chairs/umbrella great value at $30 for all. Nice beach! Great location.

Review 29:The room and bathroom could use some updating. Room was advertised as coming with a porch or balcony, but had neither...

Review 30:The location is superb - right on the beach!

Review 31:Would have liked restaurant and bar to have been open past 9:00.

Review 32:The view.. Beach rentals. Lifeguards. On site restaurant. Free snow cones. Covered pool.

Review 33:The room was a bit run down. The staff at the front desk, although not rude, rarely smiled and were not very welcoming.

Review 34:Beautiful location, right on the ocean. The restaurant was good and the waitresses were very friendly.

Review 35:A piece of the ceiling fell out, housekeepers didn't dust or really clean anything. They mainly straightened up. The front desk clerk at checkin acted like she had just bit a lemon. The chef on our last night couldn't properly cook a grill cheese.

Review 36:The wait staff was great. The Beach umbrella team very helpful. The view from our room was amazing. The male bartender was great.

Review 37:Internet was slooooow

Review 38:Location, cleanliness of room. So nice that when our towel flew off balconey to ground they waited till we we home and brought it to us.

Review 39:The only problems we experienced were a couple of minor maintenance issues. The toilet seat broke and the large towel rack in the bathroom came off the wall, but both were repaired quickly. The only thing we wish the resort had is on-site laundry facilities.

Review 40:Resort was right on the beach (although our room was not). Room was spacious & comfortable & housekeeping staff did a fantastic job keeping the room clean. On-site restaurant was surprisingly good & had great evening musical entertainment. Enjoyed the complimentary afternoon snow cones & face painting/tattoos for the kids. Very nice, warm, enclosed pool, although it's on the parking lot side of the resort & doesn't face the beach. Resort is close to everything in the Kill Devil Hills/Outer Banks area. Parking was great. We would definitely spend a week here again, but would try to get an oceanfront room.

Review 41:The morning desk attendant seemed annoyed by having to check us in. The evening desk attendant was very nice. The room smelled musty but turning on the AC solved it. It is an old facility. The TV is small and in a position that is not good viewing from one side of the bed.

Review 42:Nightly entertainment. Nice beach but with all the shark attacks we did not go in the water.

Review 43:Our room was on the second floor & there wasn't an elevator. The room had one window that was located above the garbage bins(pickup 3-5am)with a view of an alley. Requests for a room change never happened. Decline room 213.

Review 44:Liked the location of the resort. The morning coffee was FREE & the CLEANING STAFF was very good.

Review 45:The hotel, view and amenities were excellent. We had breakfast there on our last day and I wish we'd had breakfast there everyday! It was DELICIOUS! The young man who helped us with the rental of our umbrella and chairs went out of his way to make sure we set up and when the wind picked up he came and secured our umbrella without even being asked. Very nice young man. He worked Saturday, June 27th if you want to thank him on our behalf.

Review 46:The onsite manager was unprofessional and sarcastic. Upon requesting to speak with her, she refused to come out and meet with me. My sister and I were both disappointed in the room, the king bed and as I opened the curtain to see the view, there was a brick wall and an alley way. I requested a ocean view, double bed and an upper floor. This is not what I paid for. I paid $387.86 for a double bedroom, ocean view room on an upper floor. The room was not what I requested. No ocean view, one king bed and on the first floor.

Review 47:Requests were not honored. Asked for an upper floor room (due to noise) and did not receive, was told by staff upon arrival, that since it was the busy season that they could not honor requests. Air conditioner was so loud you could not hear yourself think. It kept turning off an on randomly. Walls are not thick as we were told noisy neighbors Beds are very hard, poor quality linens and towels were sparse. For the cost, expected something a little nicer.

Review 48:Nice view of the beach, room was clean, and amenities were fine. Great for a weekend get away, Bistro food was good, so you did not need to get in the car and go out for a meal.

Review 49:Requested two beds and a higher floor through Booking.com, but got a king on second floor. When I told the front desk clerk I needed two beds, she blamed the mix up on Booking.com. I received two beds, but I was on first floor. Won't stay there again.

Review 50:The staff were friendly and the facilities were beautiful and clean. Our ocean front view with a porch over the beach was incredible!! Would absolutely recommend this facility to others and plan to return next time we visit OBX.

Review 51:The difficulty in getting our bags into the hotel. We had to ask where a cart was and go to another building to get one. Also, the hotel would do well to invest in the entrance to the main building by removing the "valley" between the two sets of entrance doors. Dangerous!

Review 52:The Bistro was excellent, the staff was friendly and helpful, and our stay was very pleasant. We loved the easy access to the beach as well.

Review 53:We had a second-floor room, and the beach was literally right below our balcony. I loved going to sleep to the sound of the waves and waking up to an amazing view of the sunrise.

Review 54:At breakfast outside at their restaurant, the waitress ignored us for a good 10 minutes while waiting on everyone else, and a manager (I think) finally came and asked if we had been waited on and brought us some water. Then it took another 20 minutes or so to get our food and we were so hungry! The manager was nice about it and apologetic, though.

Review 55:The view of the ocean was incredible! The room was clean and updated/renovated. Very roomy and the balcony was perfect. The staff was very friendly, too.

Review 56:The bed was not very comfortable. Also, twice the cleaning staff did not replace our coffee in the morning.

Review 57:We loved watching the sun come up over the ocean in the mornings, such a great view to wake up to!

Review 58:The elevator sounds terrible, kids got scared the first two times so we decided to use the stares all the time.

Review 59:Perfect location, the view from our room was amazing. The facilities were clean.

Review 60:Booking.com and / or the hotel put us in a king size bed for 4 adults. Specifically requested two beds. We had to sleep on a pull out and our backs were in bad shape every day. Terrible. We had the print out from our booking the specifically said two beds but there wasn't another room available except a musty room that smelled like smoke.

Review 61:Location is great! Staff friendly.

Review 62:The ice machine didn't work.

Review 63:We loved the location of this hotel in Kill Devil Hills...a nice central location for the northern Outer Banks. It's extremely close to the Wright Bros. Memorial and an awesome miniature golf place. The indoor pool was a highlight for our small children, especially on the rainy day that kept us inside. Love the oceanfront views with the hotel directly on the beach....no dunes obstructing the view, even on the second floor (though I'd ask for a higher floor next time). The room was very nicely decorated and was a great 'home base' for our OBX stay. The bistro was cute and had great happy hour specials and very friendly staff. We definitely recommend!

Review 64:Price of hotel without discount would feel steep. Full size coffee maker to enjoy coffee with sunrise would be nice.

Review 65:Oceanfront room has amazing patio. Great attached placed to eat (Beachside Bistro)

Review 66:That's the problem can't think of anything, that's a good thing I believe

Review 67:The overall atmosphere was good the staff was very accommodatin and friendly,we also enjoy being close to the water

Review 68:the little table on the balcony was missing it's top....but we adapted fine....

Review 69:Everything was great....the staff were so gracious and helpful... we had a lovely breakfast and conversation in the restaurant with our waitress Tamara.... we will plan to come back!

Review 70:Our King room was spotlessly clean and smelled fresh as soon as you walked in. Bright, modern furnishings. Nice updated bathroom. Cozy carpeting. Wall of windows and glass door to balcony - spectacular view! 2 comfy outdoor chairs & cocktail table on balcony. Hotel is right on the sand, steps from the beach! Great, convenient, attached restaurant. Great food, great service! Friendly staff. Full service bar, so you can have a cocktail without having to drive anywhere. Overall "mini" resort experience for a reasonable price compared to other places on the beach.

Review 71:Parking was odd (wanted to traverse the opposite direction to portico and from parking to ramp to pick up handicap mother). Resort under construction. Keys didn't work -Both keyed for wrong room initially.

Review 72:On Beachfront w/ access. Pool. In center of city sites. Reasonable rates.

Review 73:The only thing I didn't like was that I had to leave.

Review 74:The hotel from the outside was nice but once you open the door to your room and get hit with the spectacular view it's amazing! The walls weren't thin so I couldn't hear my neighbors and the balconies are private. Also the food was delicious from the on site restaurant.

Review 75:The only negative comment I would have would be regarding the elevator on the 1st level we used to access our room to the 5th floor. Elevator is near the indoor pool. It smelled like it was where you go to smoke. Otherwise, great stay.

Review 76:Oceanfront ! Great view. Room was a nice size. Checked out Sat. 3/28/15. Front desk person very nice. Had a delicious crepe in the restaurant. Server was a sweetheart. We will book again.

Review 77:over priced for what was received. would give 2 stars only at best, nothing more. Advertises that's it's an "oceanfront resort". Problem is most of it's rooms are not.

Review 78:Nothing really

Review 79:I had a minor maintenance issue 2nd night but they quickly moved me to another room and made the inconvenient situation seem like a small blip on another wise great stay. Very good outcome for a 4 day vacay.

Review 80:They were very welcoming and always exceeding expectations . They made recommendations for restaurants and local entertainment. The in-house restaurant was perfect with live music performed quily in a small area of the bar. Do not miss going there for a meal, great food and dinner service. Chef visited the dining room and spoke with guests to be sure they were enjoying their selections. Heated pool was very nice. I cannot wait for all rooms to be updated in near future.

Review 81:Pool had a lot of sand at the bottom both days we were there. Room was adequate, but not the cleanest. Door was loose and shook all through the night anytime a door was opened/closed in the hall or anyone walked by. It was hard to get a good sleep.

Review 82:Staff was very friendly and helpful. Location was great and food in the restaurant was delicious!

Review 83:The room was old - window faced ugly motel next door. Shower head was not stable in wall and toilet was wobbly. It was just old and not what you'd expect at the beach as far as view. Plus we were on second floor and there were no elevators in that building

Review 84:It was a room for the weekend...nothing special but staff was excellent and very friendly. Room was no fault of theirs.

Review 85:Staff closed the restaurant an hour early as we were walking in. Seemingly no real leadership in hotel.

Review 86:Oceanfront... hard not to like. Great maid for our room.

Review 87:We did not get the room we booked the staff said we were upgraded to an Ocean front condo however, the room was right next to the motel foot wash station and stairs leading up from the beach. We had to keep drapes closed most of the weekend to have some privacy.

Review 88:Mattress was too hard.

Review 89:The room is very spacious and very clean. We loved being very close to the ocean and the balcony. The Beach Bistro restaurant was excellent and we appreciated the discount for eating and staying.

Review 90:The only complaint we had was wishing we had a hot tub in addition to the pool. Otherwise we loved everything else about it.

Review 91:We loved the oceanfront room and hopefully can request to have the same room when we come to visit OBX again. The room was very clean and everyone there was very nice and polite.

Review 92:A little wear and tear for the price. Also, not much room to walk on road sides. The beach is a great place for walks but I'd prefer a hard surface for faster pace. We had to walk single file.

Review 93:Just a hop and a skip to the beach! Also a good location.

Review 94:We stayed at sea ranch for our annual ladies trip this year. From the staff to the grounds to the rooms was excellent! We had a great time and it was located perfectly!

Review 95:The bed was hard :( and i was put in a king bed room instead of two queens which as a bit of a let down, but surprisingly the pull out was more comfy than the bed?!!

Review 96:being right on the beach was super! loved having the small fridge and microwave! restaurant food was very good! All staff seemed very polite and the nighttime music was a bonus!! kinda liked it not being a real large place too!

Review 97:Cigarette butts below the hotel on the beach. The elevator was broken one of the days we were there, made it slightly inconvinient due to having an infant.

Review 98:Location. Central to shopping and restaurants. Our oceanfront room had a perfect view and the balcony was great. Easy beach access from our building, just walk to the second floor and go out the back door. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean.

Review 99:Very limited amenities. The hotel doesn't offer beach chairs or towels. You have to rent them. Very small swimming pool. Very small bistro with so so food and obstructed view of the beach. The place is over priced for what they offer.

Review 100:Access to the beach and friendly staff

Review 101:The stairwells could use a little cleaning up - they definitely show age in ways the rooms did not. The air conditioner was really loud. We often go to the beach with my parents and the beach access is a fairly steep staircase with a tall last step, that would be a big problem for my aging mother.

Review 102:Great location, room was nice, clean & comfortable, amenities were just right. We will definitely consider going back with our kids in the future.

Review 103:I called ahead to say we would Be arriving in middle of night early am,so our room would not be given away. Was not original plan but work prevented leaving PA prior to 9pm! Told "No problem, 24hr front desk, your room will be waiting". Got to hotel after 6+hrdrive thru storms 4am. (Weather not anyone's fault or control). Was told at check in desk-"Oh we had u down as a NO Show & assigned soneone your room." I informed night clerk I had Called at 2 pm to say we would be arriving very late middle of might& told it was ok! Our room would be waiting"! She did some other movind yhibgs around so we did mot have to move rooms for next night (1plus). The room smelled so musty & moldy. Turned on AC helped smell some. But there were ANTS on every counter, night stand, bathroom counters, desk. And if u did not see any once you put down anything on a surface ants surrounded it! IE cell phone, remote, cup. GROSS!! None were noted in beds but afraid to put bags or things down! Put things on chairs n balcony out of rain if possible. When called to complain was told "yes, Mam there are ants everywhere, sorry. Musty smell is what you get at the beach". Really?? Well, not when & where we have stayed before! Our Bill was wrong thank god I had all info/receopt on my cell. That was corrected before we left. All the staff kept pushing was the resturant and indoor pool! Ants a over room think NOT in kitchen resturant?? We stayed far away from the resturant ! Why eould I want to go to indoor pool At The Beach?? Hotel Beach front. We had great view of Parking Lot! Loud BOTH ams-kids running in hall, housekeeing loud, doors slamming, No comps, Nothing more than "sorry" from one staff member rt complaints. Was going toComplain to manager at check out But she was dealing with a guest WHO just fell in their lobby from something spilled on floor. We could Not leave fast enough!!!

Review 104:Location

Review 105:The price. I paid because of the location I new it would be high and it was the "high season", but over all the room was not a high dollar resort room. The bathroom tissue was extremely cheap and I know that is not a real complaint, but for the money I spent it should have been a little more high end in all areas. I don't mind spending money when I get my monies worth. Next time I will find a cheaper place and just bring a chair for the beach.

Review 106:I love the fact we were located on the beach. Balcony overlooked the beach and we could hear the roar of the ocean. It was a great view/beds were great. I love the Outer Banks and have stayed elsewhere, but this was the best view.

Review 107:The cleaning staff was good but there was ants everywhere from min one. The place smelled like bug repelling chemicals. Also we had lots of bags with small kids and they put us in the building with no elevator and offered no help. The pool was not good but the location of the hotel Is perfect. The restaurant there is also really good.

Review 108:The clean

Review 109:We understood the Sea Ranch is a OBX traditions and has been around forever, the rooms were somewhat updated and well kept, the facility was well kept for the amount of traffic that visits the hotel. BUT we were plagued by ants throughout the entire room and bathroom, ants in your toothbrush is not a good thing. Additionally the door hinges were loud, general maintenance could easily attended to this and avoided the problem. Also the door latch did not keep door closed, causing us to have to slam the door each time it was used. We were annoyed by the door issues as I am sure our neighbors were. Again, reports of these issues should have been reported by housekeeping to maintenance long ago and would have avoided this complaint.

Review 110:We enjoyed the location of the property and our room. While we did not have an ocean view, we understood due to our last minute booking. We were pleasantly surprised and impressed by the quality of food and food presentation in the restaurant, service was as good as the food. I recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Review 111:For the price I expected a full slate of tv channels (most channels were unavailable) other than 1 HBO channel all channels were basic cable. No continental breakfast! For 3+ bills a night I want at least a donut in the morning! The pool was in the parking lot and not inviting at all but then I don't go to the beach to hang at the pool. Again, for the price I expect beach chairs and umbrella part of the price.

Review 112:Room was recently renovated, AC worked great, beds were comfortable and the hotel restaurant was as good as any place we dined during our stay.

Review 113:There was a horrible odor that smelled like sewage. They had to give us a different room and it was full of ants. I took a video and asked the general manager to give me a refund but she said she couldnt because I booked through booking.com but when I pressed further she said she would call booking.com and call me back on a monday. That was a week ago and I still have not heard from her. She offered me a certificate for a free stay at a furture date and I declined. I would not recommend Sea Ranch at all.

Review 114:Well the first night someone tried to break in on us at 3:30 AM. The second night a party outside our room on the beach went on to 2:30 AM I had to call and tell the staff just to call the police.

Review 115:The hotel was a very nice place to visit the rooms were clean and had a great view. Except for a few things that scared my wife it was not bad.

Review 116:My room had hundreds of ants in it. We couldn't leave any open bags of food out. Also, the rooms were very small for the cost per night.

Review 117:It was clean and convenient to the beach. The staff was somewhat friendly.

Review 118:Pool was a little small and the beds were a little too firm for me.

Review 119:I liked how close you were to everything. It was clean and the staff were very friendly. I liked how close we were to the beach/ ocean. You could see the dolphins swim by every morning.

Review 120:1. Bed was too hard for my liking, pillow top mattress would be more inviting.

Review 121:1.Ocean front view 2. Restaurant (breakfast) 3. Central location to other restaurants 4. Easy parking 5. Access to beach 6. Friendly staff

Review 122:Clean, nice ocean view. Good food.

Review 123:Would like ocean view room next stay

Review 124:Room carpet was very dirty. Rusted areas on porch. Left day early because of oder in room.

Review 125:The staff was very friendly! Beautiful room with ocean view. Loved keeping the door open to hear the ocean. We hated to leave!

Review 126:We thought the pool was cold and it was supposed to be heated.

Review 127:The restaurant was great. We really loved the nightly entertainment.

Review 128:Slow elevator.

Review 129:The oceanfront room was awesome. The room was quiet and made us feel very comfortable. We will book here again.

Review 130:Great location. Beach area was a little small. Pool was good. Overall a good time.

Review 131:Room looked out on to the parking lot

Review 132:Beach is right there with very easy access, staff very friendly, plenty of free parking.

Review 133:I liked everything about the sea ranch.

Review 134:Access to the Internet was very slow.

Review 135:Proximity to the beach, the food and most of the staff.
