Reviews for Anchorage by the Sea

Review 1:I thought I had paid for a better room. I picked all the better options I paid for ocean view and the bigger room. I felt like I got taken advantage of granted I do not the the difference between the rooms but I thought what I paid for was the ocean view with the whirlpool. I left feeling like I was taken advantage of.

Review 2:the hotels beautiful I have seen it in the summer and was nice in the winter. Wish I could have stayed in the summer and gone there when the restaurant was open.

Review 3:We were there when it was all decorated for Christmas. I loved just sitting in the lobby area with the fire going (peaceful). The restaurant is so convenient and good

Review 4:Price of room was more than I would pay for the same room in season. Some of the facilities were closed. Was told restaurant and bar were closing early.

Review 5:Location.

Review 6:Great location along Marginal Way. Very nice to get up in the morning and watch the sunrise. Clean, well-appointed rooms. Comfortable beds. Friendly staff at the front desk and in the restaurant. Would highly recommend.

Review 7:The wall heater in our room made very loud banging noises which actually woke me up in the middle of the night more than one time.

Review 8:Loved the location! The staff was friendly and helpful. The facilities were very clean and pleasant. There was a fire burning in the reception area which gave it a very warm and welcoming feeling.

Review 9:We liked everything...staff v friendly. View beautiful. Christmas decorations v nice especially outside.pool and outside hot tub good. Breakfast v good and plenty of food.

Review 10:We were surprised that the beds weren't as comfortable as we have experienced at other hotels.

Review 11:the scenery and the seashore are beautiful ! The service and the food were excellent! We would love to try to go back when the weather is warmer and we can enjoy more of the outdoors!

Review 12:none

Review 13:Clean rooms with location right on scenic Marginal Way- a walk on the bluffs. Walking distance to the beach and town. There is also a new restaurant that has great food right there that is convenient for breakfast and dining.

Review 14:The room was too cold. Even though the heat was working and the thermostat was flexible, the room was still very cold, especially the bathroom. We were not informed that there was a breakfast.

Review 15:Room was very clean, and well appointed and bright. View was so-so.

Review 16:The quality of the towels in the rooms is very very very poor. They are thin, rough, and just bad. They really need too improve them immediately.

Review 17:The spaciousness of the rooms in the lightship are very very comfortable. That is why we have stayed there many times.

Review 18:The location on the Marginal Way is ideal for those who like to walk and enjoy the ocean. The walk to Perkins Cove is easy even for a couple of 70+ year olds, and that is more pleasant than trying to find a place to park and then paying and exorbitant fee.

Review 19:There is absolutely nothing to not like about the Beachmere....my favorite place in Ogunquit. Staff, Sarah the owner, cleanliness, breakfast provided. and the most beautiful view of all properties. Actually like that there is not a pool, makes for a more peaceful atmosphere. Heaven on earth by the sea!!

Review 20:Audie at the front desk was friendly and helpful(much appreciated). Theroom could have used a additional thick blanket. The blueberry Frenchtoast was delicious! The location was great.

Review 21:Indoor pool was cold. No poolside changing rooms (just restrooms) so had to whisk small children back to room in towels. A minor complaint really, hated leaving!

Review 22:Great staff on check in, nice looking pool, perfect location, very clean rooms. Marginal way to Perkins cove then lobster lunch was just what we wanted. Breakfast was epic.

Review 23:The older white man at the check-in desk was brusque and cold to the point of incivility. I wondered whether this was because my partner (whose presence he did not even acknowledge) is African American. He treated us like interlopers who were rudely disturbing him. If I had not paid in advance, we would have left to go where our business would be welcome.

Review 24:Beautiful site, right on Marginal Way. Beautiful rooms -- ours had an ocean view.

Review 25:My sister and I looking for a fun night out without the boys. This was the perfect location for us to be able to walk around and enjoy a few beers and not have to worry about driving

Review 26:Had a problem when the waitress in the dining area serviced me the wrong wine. It lead to some discussion but was corrected.

Review 27:I like the view of the ocean and friendliness of most of the staff.

Review 28:It was a cold weekend so there was not much to do. Overall a great place to stay

Review 29:The amenities were great. The location was central to shops and attractions

Review 30:Drinks from the bar were extremely expensive.

Review 31:Location and view Nice restaurant and the food was excellent The endless coffee in the office was the best yet. Our room was wonderful, view and sunset from deck fantastic.

Review 32:We we located in a room back over the main road away from the facilities and the sea. Room was a little dark and a little cramped.

Review 33:People were lovely. Facilities looked great though we didn't take advantage of them. The town itself is well worth your time.

Review 34:Not a bad experience, but we would have liked to have a room with a betteri view. Not your fault, we need to make a reservation sooner.

Review 35:Service, cleanliness , location and the area had plenty to do, example: shops, restraunts and quit walks.

Review 36:The staff was exceptionally pleasant. Very quiet rooms, peaceful lounge area to view the ocean. Once you park your vehicle there's no need to get back in it till its time to leave. Everything is within walking distance.

Review 37:The restaurant need to have a new chef we were very disappointed in the quality of food I have it a c- and there were flies on our food. the waitstaff was not that great and one waitress continued to stay at our table and talk about her problems we found quite rude. the presentation of the food was treble and my friend had tuna sushi and they charged full price when ingredient were missing and no substitution was offered. Please pay attention to your restaurant as we would of eaten there again it the food was better. With winter coming guest will want to eat in restaurant however I would not recommend eating there until you improve on staff and food quality and presentation. Sincerely Sharon Nelson

Review 38:We loved the Jacuzzi and sauna, the beautiful decor of fall foliage everywhere on the premises and the fact that we were allowed to use amenities after we checked out to extend our wonderful visit to the Anchorage......

Review 39:Our dinner at the facility was just ok, we enjoyed breakfast and cocktails very much, yummy rum runners!

Review 40:Perfect location for a getaway , our room was across the street but not too far to walk to facilities-

Review 41:Gorgeous view of water, beautiful landscaping, wonderful staff, comfortable bed and ultra CLEAN room. The breakfast and lunch was delicious and surprisingly reasonable. Can walk to everywhere.

Review 42:Noise from people above and on each side of my room. Heavy walking, children allowed to run the hallway, doors closing and banging, could hear some people snoring, and other televisions. Host at breakfast asking for name, and room number. I think room number was enough and appropriate.

Review 43:Overpriced for the time of year and weather. The restaurant located at the hotel was horrible.. Obviously understaffed, and both meals came out soggy and cold. Disappointed we wasted one of our few meals there to say the least.

Review 44:location.

Review 45:Can't think of anywhere else I would like to stay in Ogunquit.

Review 46:Extremely clean room and bathroom. Check in staff very helpful and friendly. Great views and location.

Review 47:Beware: Booked a king room only to find out at The Anchorage thatdoesn't mean a king bed, only a king (read: slightly larger) room.I've been making hotel reservations for the past 30 years and thisis the first time this has happened. Deceptive advertising andwon't return. Also, towels were thin and skimpy.

Review 48:Location, deck chairs, drinks were all fine.

Review 49:Didn't expect to be in towers bldg. extra walking from parking lot to town was difficult with bad knees.

Review 50:Good breakfast, with friendly waitress. Pretty grounds.

Review 51:Staff not very welcoming, witnessed two unhappy guests talking to female mgr. within earshot of other guests. Appeared their rooms did not match their expectations. Should have taken the conversations to a private location.ok

Review 52:Nearness to the ocean, on site restaurant, cleanliness.

Review 53:The room was too humid. My clothes felt damp.

Review 54:We loved the hot tubs, the 360 Restaraunt is beautiful and the good was great, the view from the bar on the top floor was amazing! The hotel is located on the marginal way, easy access to the beach. Wonderful!

Review 55:We didn't have any type of view from our window as we were in the Tower section. All we could see was the parking lot.

Review 56:The Anchorage is central to the Marginal Way and the center of Ogunquit. It has a beautiful lawn and pool. The new bar is fantastic, with a gorgeous water view, a great addition to Ogunquit.

Review 57:My girlfriend and I were in agreement: the drinks at the resort were the only negative about our whole trip. She loves sweet drinks and when she asked our waitress for the sweetest that they had, it was a little tart by my standards which is terribly tart by hers. My drink (their twist on a margarita) was just bad. Didn't taste anything like a margarita, and just was not good. It turned us off so much that we decided not to eat their at all during our stay. Thankfully there were plenty of places around with great drinks! Hope they can improve on that though. Free continental breakfast also would have been really nice for what we paid.

Review 58:We loved how close it was to everything. Never had to get in the car, although we did take a car ride to a nearby mountain for a hike!.Loved it. Was the best unique escape for my girlfriend and I with the cute town and plenty of outdoor activities!.

Review 59:I did not realize the Anchorage has a tower which is across the street from what I thought the anchorage is and they promised all rooms had a balcony view what they forgot to mention is that our view was of the commercial air conditioners...how great is that! Did we get this poor room & view because we booked with Booking .com instead of the actual hotel?

Review 60:clean and neat and the actual physical location

Review 61:didn't realize we were across the street when i booked it i wanted to be across the street plus we were on the first floor and only had a view of the side parking lot tried to change it but couldn't because of booking with booking.com we made the best of it

Review 62:I love the anchorage the room wa very nice and clean

Review 63:This is minor, but the lounge really needs to revamp their cocktails. For such a nice place, it needs a little flare.

Review 64:Staff were genuinely friendly. The view and location is perfect. The grounds, pool, hot tub and room were immaculate.

Review 65:This is a nice hotel but not at all flexible on giving back deposits within 14 days prior to arrival once they have your money they keep your money no if ands or buts

Review 66:The dumpster being emptied at 9am on Sunday was probably my least favorite part of the trip.

Review 67:We had a great time. The location was great. We walked to everything! The new bar and reataurant were wonderful.

Review 68:The staff are very welcoming and friendly. If you're in Ogunquit, you must go for a drink at the new bar. The design is absolutely perfect for the setting. The 360 view is incredible!

Review 69:Not nearly enough sound-proofing in the Tower.....a lot of noise from upstairs rooms! Also: great difficulty finding parking at the Tower....

Review 70:The location is ideal! Adirondack chair area is beautiful, but could use a few more optional umbrellas... Great security requiring I.d. bracelets!

Review 71:Not very handicap accessible. I did alright with the use of my cane but it was hard to navigate from one area to another.

Review 72:Sitting in an Adirondack chair and watching the waves roll in. Loved the hot tubs and the french toast with cream cheese and Maine blueberries were out of this world.

Review 73:What I didn't like was the room we were in was on the end of the building on the first floor and the stairs were on the outside of our room. When someone would go up or down the stairs, it sounded like a heard of elephants. We were not in our room but to sleep so that was when it was a problem!

Review 74:Loved the resort! Loved the pool! Loved the restaurant!

Review 75:Booking.com charged me to upgrade to a room with a partial ocean view. When I got there, the room had no view and you had to sit outdoors infront of your room to see ocean to the right. I complained to the hoteland they said this was an issue with booking.com. I'd call the hotelbefore you book so you know what you're getting.

Review 76:Nice decor, very clean room, pleasant staff and the best view ofOgunquit Beach.

Review 77:There were several people waiting .Were told we could walk around near restaurant and they would find us . We were always in view. They never came for us.After seeing many people seated, we checked in again and were told they couldn't find us. Sat us a table by the door that had been empty the whole time. Called in their top waitress(only saving grace). Cold lobster benedict. Very disappointed.

Review 78:expensive for one night when other hotels /motels had opening much less Bar/Food Area not really prepared for start of holiday weekend.

Review 79:Large hot tub - wish hours were longer quiet

Review 80:For the price we should of had a better view and at least a complimentary breakfast. The room was kinda small.

Review 81:very professional people working there. Comfy bed. close to marginal way and town.

Review 82:Close to shops, restaurants and beach. Restaurant on the hotel property and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Lovely wait staff, interacted with the kids and were very efficient!

Review 83:Disappointed that our view was ocean view not ocean front. Understand that rooms made thru booking.com are ocean view. Hoped I could upgrade but room was already charged thru booking & I didn't want to pay an addl rate thru the facility.

Review 84:Super clean & excellent location!

Review 85:Needed a rest, found one at the Anchorage; comfort cleanliness, and location are pluses, but I must say the gardens were awesome, a stunning display of our most cherished flora.

Review 86:The service and bartender at the upstairs bar was horrible in that we, and other guests, had to wait over 10 minutes simply to be recognized. And it wasn't even busy there. Then, I had to go and get drink menus from her and instead of coming to our table to take our order, she yelled over the bar asking what we wanted. She then proceeded to have a back & forth argument with another couple sitting behind us, talking back, being sarcastic, and rude. When my boyfriend went down to the restaurant to see if we could get in for dinner, he told the manager what was going on and she simply said they were having a hard time finding bartenders, that's it, rather than apologizing and going upstairs to diffuse the situation. We were both very disappointed with the manager for not doing something. Next, the bartender came and brought us our check when we weren't even ready to go, but then decided we would and because of everything that had went on, didn't even want to try the restaurant for dinner. The couple behind us, who had been talking to us about their awful service, then became really vocal with other guests about the service and bartender's rudeness, making it very uncomfortable for everyone there. The bartender should never have argued back or been rude, despite being short-handed, and the manager should have done something, anything. I have never seen someone be so rude or argue back to guests. While we may go back to the hotel, we will not go back to the restaurant or bar. Being that there are so many other hotels in Ogunquit with views and better service, we will most likely visit somewhere else.

Review 87:Loved the room, the view, comfort of bed, grounds.

Review 88:We were looking for a 2-day, 1-night getaway & succeeded! We arrived early, our room was ready, very clean, very comfortable, excellent dinner & very happy!!

Review 89:Breakfast not included.

Review 90:Was very comfortable and clean. Walking distance from shops, restaurants and footpath to Perkin's Cove. Indoor and outdoor heated pools

Review 91:No coffee maker in the room.

Review 92:The outdoor pool was open and heated this weekend (may 16-18). Wasn't expecting to be able to jump in and comfortable this time of year! The location can't be any better, right at the start of marginal way, perfect for walking anytime of day.

Review 93:They are under construction, 7 am is an early wake up. I get that the work needs to get done but trucks picked up metal items before 7 am; then they started work at 7. The mattress was great but the pillows were terrible.

Review 94:Beautiful location, everything is clean and top quality.

Review 95:We didn't have a bad experience but the room was a bit small and, even though there was enough room in the bathroom area, it could really use a large shelf unit to store personal cosmetic items, etc.

Review 96:The location was good for visiting our daughter who lives in the area. The new upstairs bar/lounge was lovely!

Review 97:A little warmer, as we know only the "Man Upstairs" is in charge of that.

Review 98:The restuarant just opened, as well as the bar, both were great. Food and service well done.

Review 99:we were given a room across the street when we had a reservation, while others were off the street booking at Main Inn. Towels were frayed and torn. No available parking at our location. Were forced to park at Main Inn. No amenities, coffee, snack bar, Nothing! The experience was NOT how we expected to celebrate our 45th Anniverary.

Review 100:The Town Center

Review 101:Enjoyed the hot tub & pool. It appears that the staff adjusts the pool temperature according to the weather. It was wonderful to be able to swim on a cool day. The restaurant & bar are beautiful.

Review 102:Accommodation for my request to have certain things ready to surprise my wife of 20 years.

Review 103:The room. The restaurant and the scenery. Staff was very kind and knowledgeable.

Review 104:Too pricey for off-season. While there is an indoor pool and hot tub, you will need to cross the parking lot to the main building to get to it. Same with the restaurant. Some complimentary coffee maker in the room would be nice. Again the restaurant is located in a second building on the property.

Review 105:The room was great, nice ocean view, and the staf was friendly and helpful. Restaurant has just reopened after renovations and it's sure to be an upscale favorite.

Review 106:Leaving!

Review 107:The views of the ocean, accessibility to Perkins Cove and overall pristine conditions of the rooms and property made our overnight perfect. We only wished we could have stayed for another night! Next time!

Review 108:The weather. It sort of snowed

Review 109:Close to lovely shore walk, begins with "m". 20 minute drive to bustling, interesting Kinnebumkport . Ask for 2nd floor ocean view rooms. Beautiful shoreline

Review 110:The size of the room was smaller/narrower than depicted online. I was surprised when we arrived. My expectation of a partial ocean view was that we would be able to sit in the room and see the ocean...partially. This was not possible from our room. The grill was not open due to construction which was unfortunate.

Review 111:Loved the location, the view, the maid service was excellent. The grounds, even under construction, were outstanding.

Review 112:Being in the hospitality business for over 30 years it was hard to understand the rude response to a question of weather we could get some milk for our complimentary coffee on the weekend. It is a mainstay of coffee service today but the rude response from the desk was a bigger issue. A gallon of milk is only $4.

Review 113:Rooms were clean, property was great.

Review 114:We like everything about the Anchorage. The staff is very accommodating, the rooms are always extremely clean, and the housekeepers are always ready to assist with special needs. Whenever we're in Ogunquit, the Anchorage is our first and only choice. We have already booked a room for my birthday in October.

Review 115:I don't like having to go outside to get to the pool. There were to many kids in the pool area splashing with no regard to others. Kids in the hot tub, could not relax.

Review 116:The room was clean. I like being on the ground floor.

Review 117:Our first stay at the Anchorage was wonderful. The room was decorated beautifully and spotlessly clean. The gas log was a very nice touch since it was 15 degrees outside! The staff was personable and informative.

Review 118:No continental breakfast on the weekends. Only weekdays. Really do not have any complaints at all with this place.

Review 119:The area is great with a wonderful view of the water.

Review 120:No in room coffee

Review 121:Rooms are very comfortable..views are outstanding and the outdoor hot tub was a blast! There was a big snowstorm the night of our stay but the crew had everything cleaned up before we had to leave!

Review 122:Restaurant was not open. More was closed down than we expected during January. We thought it would be more like a hotel - not motel where you walked between buildings.

Review 123:Location - Very nice.

Review 124:Construction at 7am on a Sunday morning. No warning when booking. Hammering and trucks at 7am when I mentioned this to staff they rudely said " you should have read the fine print, don't no what to tell you" no apology! We're not very accommodting for a winter night.

Review 125:when we arrived I wasn't happy with my room because I didn't have a view of the ocean, they very kindly moved us closer at no additional charge. It was a lovely stay.

Review 126:A lot of construction going on but I know it is off season

Review 127:We enjoyed a lovely quiet visit in the winter. The hot tub in the cold weather was especially fun!

Review 128:Beds were described as queen size. We found them to be more like full size.

Review 129:The rooms were very clean and updated. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful...location!location!location!!!
