Reviews for AmmaZulu African Palace

Review 1:Breakfast and staff availibility.

Review 2:We booked the Presidential room, with fantastic view at the valley. Room was very spacious, with own terrace and very spacious bathroom.

Review 3:The lack of air-conditioning. The short access road into the hotel which desperately needs upgrading.

Review 4:The sheer uniqueness of the place and the visual extravaganza of the design of the building and the memorabilia within it. The views over the adjacent nature reserve with its spectacular ravines and cliffs

Review 5:Nothing really but you do need a car as there is no Resturant after breakfast at the facility and the nearest shopping centre and resturants are not within walking distance. No lift if you have walking disabilities.

Review 6:Amazing location and views, luxury rooms and the building: wish we had longer. Great staff !

Review 7:No view of anything, my room looked out into trees. But that was not a big deal really

Review 8:Everything so comfortable. Breakfast was awesome, presented nicely too. The over the top decor was a bit tacky but I guess it would be nice for tourists from outside SA. Overall very happy.

Review 9:Great place! I will visit it again and again! Great value for my money. The staff were excellent and went their way to make my stay as comfortable as they can be!

Review 10:There was a discrepancy with the rates for our stay but it was resolved very quickly. Still waiting for the refund to reflect

Review 11:Both alta and Martin were excellent hosts. Loved the location and the African art displayed all over. One of the most beautiful places we have stayed at.

Review 12:Alta and her staff were very helpful and went out of their way to find out how you are and if they could do more. Truly lovely people and smiling faces

Review 13:We had intended to leave on the Friday, but decided to stay over and leave for JHB on the Saturday morning. Unfortunately, for us, they had a function on the Friday night. The B&B is situated in such a way that the noise carries to all the rooms which became unbearable as we were planning on leaving early the next morning. Realised that they had given us a two bedroom to get us as far away from the noise but didn't mention that there would be a noisy function on. Clearly they are not aware how badly the noise carries to the bedrooms. To make matters worse our bedroom overlooked the carpark from which all the guests left at 0100 without any consideration that there were guests trying to sleep right above their heads. The stay was highly enjoyable, but I do feel they should warn guests of the chance of being inconvenienced by a noisy function at the time of booking, unless of course, you are part of the noisy function. Only 2 globes were working in the large lounge and bedroom annex, no airconditioning and the left hand basin in the bathroom drained so slowly as to be unuseable.

Review 14:We loved the silence and listening to the night sounds before falling asleep. Beautiful and very interesting. Something new to see every time you walked out of the bedroom. Staff were very good. As nice as the Indonesian (?) furniture is to look at, it was very uncomfortable to sit on, not that we spent that much time sitting in the room, but uncomfortable nevertheless.

Review 15:Ammazulu African Palace is an absolute gem hidden away at the Kloof gorge. The attention to detail of the decor is breathtaking and the rooms themselves are extremely comfortable. I stayed with my girlfriend over her birthday weekend and couldn't have been happier with the place. Friendly attentive staff and great breakfasts. Highly recommended.

Review 16:Amazing place-such a wonderful unexpected surprise! Location is breath-taking and the overall experience was thoroughly enjoyable. I will be back. Thank you!

Review 17:Liked everything but would suggest a small room service menu as the dining room only serves breakfast.

Review 18:Unique rustic yet opulent hotel with nice size comfortable rooms, a must on your to do list with a great personalised breakfast and fantastic views from the dining area and presidential suite shown to us by one of the helpful staff members.

Review 19:the garden paths and parking area need sweeping up of leaves the access buzzer at the entrance gate should be moved as it is very hard to reach not able to contact reception on 9 while wedding was in progress. had to walk around downstairs to ask for a beer

Review 20:an incredible art gallery to experience

Review 21:Staff were most helpful and made delicious, well prepared breakfasts. Peace and tranquility in your own beautifully decorated private space. Felt very much 'at home'. Thank you team Ammazulu!

Review 22:Wifi and Wifi communication its non existing. I would have liked a table in the room to set up a office we had awesome facilities but we lacked a table and stool set up and WiFi.

Review 23:The decorations furniture choice plant life a must visit in the summer. This is probably the most beautiful facility I have stayed in. I comparing is with the palace in Sun City the some boutique hotels in Cape Town and JHB.

Review 24:Everything about the Guest House was terrific. The managers and staff were always on hand to answer any questions one had. The breakfasts every morning were simply delicious and decor was out of this world

Review 25:the driveway very steep and bumpy but worth it

Review 26:Absolutely an amazing place, service and staff outstanding and friendly, rooms beautiful, well appointed total luxury, breakfast the absolute best

Review 27:The price is a little high, and a b&b or lodge should always include breakfast cost, on the website kit says breakfast free or included, then I recieved a bill for it!!

Review 28:Room and bed

Review 29:Far from restaurants. You need a car there for dinner.

Review 30:Very atypic place, with nice and amazing decoration ! Very friendly staff. Large room with a lounge. Wifi OK. Very quiet place.

Review 31:As previous reviews, we had seen the photos on the internet but not expected the sheer size and stunning creation which is Ammazulu Palace. It is totally unique and should be revered as a world class collection of African Beadwork for generations to come. We were fortunate enough to be staying in the Presidential Suite which had bifold doors which opened two walls of the room to the huge balcony. The views over Kloof Gorge are amazing. You definitely need a car here and restaurants in Kloof and Hillcrest nearby are top quality.

Review 32:The owner and creator of this hotel,is by profession an architect. He has put years of collecting African and Asian artifacts into this hotel, this in its own is an achievement, but he has combined his flair with absolute synchronisation of space and design without thinking of cost or financial return, the result is I believe the finest hotel experience in the world. Alta the manageress and her staff keeps this together impeccably Thank you, it's an honour and a privilege to have spent time there.

Review 33:Everything, it was no ordinary hotel stay, more a fascinating, interesting, unique experience, can't wait to go back and study the place in more detail

Review 34:The decor was over the top for me, in fact a bit weird - really not my cup of tea. There is no atmosphere - very quiet and cold. Expected a full hot breakfast but instead got a sort of continental breakfast. The website site says 24 hour service but....nope !

Review 35:The place is very clean and I guess the decor would appeal to other folks. This place is exactly what it looks like on the web. The staff were very sweet.

Review 36:Not much to fault but maybe the option to have supper will be good.

Review 37:What is there not to like never seen anything like it. Overwhelming at first but can appreciate the planning and work behind it. Nothing was too much trouble . Thank you Alta for the upgrade felt very special. Planning our next stay Ina @ Peter Cochra

Review 38:We didn't see many staff or owner while we were there. Would have been nice to chat and get a little history of the place.

Review 39:The entire place is quite extraordinary with all the African decor. Great breakfast Rooms were very clean and serviced daily Shower was the best.

Review 51:Very impressive collection of Zulu and traditional art beautifully displayed! Very comfortable and awesome stay!!!

Review 52:lack support staff , do not expect room service like any normal hotel. but for the price I think its a good deal.

Review 53:location, comfort
