Reviews for Hotel St. Francis - Heritage Hotels and Resorts

Review 1:The lighting was not good in the room to put makeup on or to fix your hair. Outside the room next to ours was a bunch of stuff piled up...it needed to be put away by a staff member.

Review 2:We reserved a queen bed but they upgraded us to a king bed with no charge...

Review 3:I called prior to arrival and the person on the phone was short and a matter of fact. Andrew was great. Friendly and attentive. Another kid and a lady were nice also. There was a guy with a gray ponytail and ear rings that was above answering questions and not very friendly! A coffee maker and a refigorator in the room would be cool!

Review 4:The location.

Review 5:Ridiculously small room with no amenities for the rate paid. No coffee pot in room and very loud. Returned to room at 8:45 am on morning I was leaving and found room open and bed stripped BEFORE I had even checked out.

Review 6:Comfortable bed

Review 7:The Heritage group that owns this hotel should be ashamed of what they have done to this historical treasure of a hotel. Remarkably disappointing. We have been going to the St. Francis hotel for 25 years. It has deteriorated dramatically. The once-beautiful and warm lobby was gutted of a gorgeous carved bar, adorned with oriental rugs, to a cold (literally & aesthetically) space. The room had wood floors (+) that are not well maintained, without a single throw carpet/rug. Wearing thick socks around the room, I got splinters in my foot twice. The room was inadequately lit, poorly appointed. As this is an historically important hotel, the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce should be fully aware of what they have allowed in letting the Heritage group into the community. Disgraceful.

Review 8:Location and history. It is important; regrettably, the Heritage group that manages the hotel has no regard for the history of New Mexico nor the (once) graceful beauty of the hotel. They have the historical photos on every floor, but not a shred of grace, taste, nor comfort. Shocking.

Review 9:Fitness room was dated and pretty awful. Needs attention. Coffee in the room and at least the option of decaf downstairs would've been helpful.

Review 10:Wood, tasteful decor.

Review 11:No lamps. Terribly dim in room. Horrible lighting in bath also. Rude old bat that serves as concierge. Managed to offend everyone around fireplace. Never seenanything like it. Told two ladies looking for food that everything was closed and they could eat at McDonald's! Concierges in case you guys don't know are supposed to be helpful and polite!!!!! Also curtain in bath window wraps around you when taking a shower. Cheap, old towels.

Review 12:Location, charm.

Review 13:The front desk clerk was extremely rude obnoxious and hateful I walked out before I finished my booking very disappointed

Review 14:I wanted to book this place because it had a 9.5 on booking.com

Review 15:This is my second stay at the hotel. I had forgotten this irritant afterthe first stay but following this latest stay it has reared its uglyhead again. Being charged for parking on a lot which appears to be partof the hotel? If you are going to do so be upfront at the time of makingreservations and include it in the room price. It is understandable ifthe lot across the street is utilized since it is a municipal parkinglot. It just has the appearance of just another way to make money andtarnishing an otherwise pleasant stay.

Review 16:The courtesy and friendliness of the staff was exception. Allowing yourguests to drink cocktails in your beautiful lobby with the roaring firewas outstanding.

Review 17:Rooms are small - European size. Lobby and location more than make up for this.

Review 18:Great location - walking distance from museums, shops & eats. Wonderful lobby with evening fires & candle light where you can relax with friends and family. All four of us loved the place.

Review 19:Having to check out and return to reality !

Review 20:The best hotel in Santa Fe, and we have stayed at several. Superior service, charming historic building that has been brought up to all the expected technology standards of 2015. The location couldn't be better : central to all the attractions of Santa Fe - all within a short walk. Couldn't be better ! The hotel bar and fine dine ( Table de S ) are top notch too.

Review 21:The location is excellent. The hotel is small and inviting. Loved warming up at the fireplace and the ambiance that was created at night with candles everywhere.

Review 22:There were some plumbing problems. We were given a larger room for the last two nights. They removed the charges for the first night.

Review 23:The hotel is beautiful and a great location. I hope I get to stay there again.

Review 24:hotel charges for parking in their lot, room was very small, hardly room to walk around and no place to sit other than the bed, also put us by the elevator and had a view out our window of the roof and utilities. The second night I was awakened and kept awake for 30 minutes by some very loud people in the lobby. They were standing at the base of the stairs and laughing and talking in a drunk manner (the sound carries right up), I finally got dressed and went down to the lobby, their was no one at the desk, I went into the bar and found the front desk guy talking to the bar tender, I told him what was happening, the people had then moved upstairs, I was given 20.00 dollars off my room which I find to be a very insignificant token of my own overall bad experience in trying to get back to sleep

Review 25:location and the lobby is gorgeous, nice staff

Review 26:Because the building is an historic landmark, there are severe limits on what the hotel can do in the way of renovations. I ended up in a very small room ... so small, there was no desk or chair where I could comfortably work with my computer. Best bet is to upgrade to more expensive room.

Review 27:You really can't beat the location, within a couple of blocks from the center of town and surrounded by shops and restaurants. Very accommodating staff.

Review 28:Hotel quaint, but our room was small and not enough counter space for personal items around sink.

Review 29:Staff very helpful. Front of hotel and bar are great for a drink.

Review 30:Charming, but teeny tiny room!

Review 31:The staff was great, especially Shawni. Unforttunately my husband got sick while we were there, requiring hospitalization, and they were there with whatever assistance we needed.

Review 32:Our room was small, with no sitting space other than the bed. The hall in which our room was located was noisy. We were awakened both mornings at 7 by trucks idling at the rear of the hotel.

Review 33:The location was great. The front desk people were very nice and helpful. The restaurant and bar were both terrific.

Review 34:Sink was placed in the rather small bedroom instead of the bathroom. In two directions the"view" is of parking lots.

Review 35:Staff was helpful and friendly. Architecture was old Santa Fe mission and so very interesting. The location is as good as it gets.

Review 36:No hot water in he am. They did not let us know when we checked in at 12:30am we were up at 8 and we had to call down on our personal cell phone to ask because the phone was not working. I didn't think that parking in a lot across the street that is public was worth $18 a night.

Review 37:The location was great. Rooms very quaint cute, clean

Review 38:The bathroom window sill was dirty and the last visitor's empty shampoo bottle was still there. The window lock did not work well. The bathroom sink stopper did not work. There was no ice bucket, we had to ask for one. This is a beautiful hotel, but these items take away from it. I did not complain to the staff because they were understaffed for a holiday weekend and always busy when I passed.

Review 39:The hotel was located perfectly for our needs. It was a beautiful older building...very elegant.

Review 40:All of the staff was wonderful..from the front desk to the cleaning staff. We will definitely make reservations here the next time that we're in Santa fe.

Review 41:Step up or down from bedroom to bath.

Review 42:Staff were great. We really enjoyed breakfast out on the patio. This is my third or fourth stay with you over the last 15 years and I never knew the patio was there.

Review 43:The bed was horrendous. First, I refuse to believe that was a queen bed. I meant to measure it before I left but unfortunately forgot. The support was so lacking that we both kept rolling towards the middle; we had to sleep back to back just to make it through the night. The bed was made with a flat sheet, rather than a fitted, so in order to sleep, when you pulled the top sheet out the bottom sheet popped out, too. There was nothing else on the mattress, no mattress pad/cover, etc, just the flat sheet between us and the mattress. Knowing how much people sweat and drool in their sleep, I was extremely turned off by this. Given that the room was over $300 a night, and the bed was both physically and mentally uncomfortable, I definitely won't be staying there again. Also, I tried to change my reservation because my plans had changed. I called when I was able to call, which was late at night, and the woman on the phone told me that, "The department was closed," and made some snarky comment asking if I was aware of what time it was.

Review 44:The hotel has a great location, (most of) the staff is friendly, the lobby is beautiful (especially at night), and there are a little details throughout that are interesting to look at.

Review 45:Parking stayed full and difficult to get in and out. Horrible dinner at The Lodge recommended by concierge. No room service( might want to get rid of old phone that reads room service! ) air condition unit seemed set on certain temp. We got hot at night. Overall, room was just not worth 300 per night.

Review 46:Location was good , the homeless folks accross the street did not bother me but might some.

Review 47:Noisy people outside and coming by our room all night. They put us where we had to go up some stairs to get to our room and my husband has walking issues.

Review 48:Clean, pretty hotel

Review 49:Parking. We were told we could park in the lot across the street and even when we displayed our parking permit, which we purchased separately, the lot people still wrote us a ticket. They took the ticket back, but it still took some extra leg work to have to go back and ask the hotel why we got a ticket, had to get an additional voucher and then give it to the parking attendant. Not the best way to end our experience there.

Review 50:The hotel was absolutely gorgeous! Perfectly Southwestern and in one of the BEST locations in Santa Fe. You can walk to all of the best restaurants and attractions.

Review 51:I thought the morning coffee was poor unless you drink it black. Might want to upscale your morning coffee and food offerings. Perhaps some real half & half as well different flavors. Couldn't hurt your bottom line to have some fruit, muffins, etc for a morning snack.

Review 52:Most everything was great!

Review 53:The room was extra small. The bed was very creaky. The parking fee was high.

Review 54:The outside porch and the lighting at night in the foyer. We liked the walkability.

Review 55:The air conditioning was limited to the bedroom area, not the bathroom. That was not so great.

Review 56:The feel of the hotel was very relaxing. The lobby is wonderfully and soulfully decorated.

Review 57:stained sheets, tv visible only from small chair, promised room in corner of building and ended up in the side of the building, not a single image of anything on the walls. Is this supposed to be a monastery?parking fee nearly double the cost of parking across the street. bizarre carpet in hallways.

Review 58:location was good

Review 59:I had a room with one queen bed, and the room is TINY (309). I knew they were small, but didn't appreciate quite how small. With the chair in front of the desk, passage from one side of the room to the other was blocked. There was nowhere to sit but the hard wooden chair or the bed. The wooden floorboards are not treated in any way. They are worn and rough, and I ended up with a splinter in my foot! I did not pay $120 a night, plus taxes, to be attacked by the floor. A few rugs or some sanding and varnishing would have prevented that.

Review 60:Handy for downtown and historic district, interesting history of hotel, outdoor seating and bar area, overall look of the main public areas.

Review 61:small bathroom, with vanity and sink in the main bedroom. Initially we were given a room that was very noisy (but were transferred to a quieter room after mentioning it to the front desk). Not many staff on hand - the front desk attendant was by herself and was very busy and we didn't see any other staff at all. As it is an historic property you cannot expect all the modern luxuries, however linen looked stained and towels were frayed. I was really looking forward to staying here, but sadly, it was disappointing.

Review 62:comfortable bed, helpful front desk attendant, location was very central

Review 63:W usually stay at the La Fonda but decided to try the St. Francis. We went into your restaurant when we arrived. Decided to grab a bite to eat..... nothing doing unless you want the dinner menu and a $32 steak......... The staff was helpful and professional..... My reservation was for $310 for two nights.... my final bill was $377.......

Review 64:Good location

Review 65:Our room was located towards the front of the hotel & we could hear people coming & going from the bar till late in the night.

Review 66:We loved the atmosphere & vibe of the hotel. Decorated gorgeously!

Review 67:Had to wait quite a while for service both times I was at the concierge desk. No breakfast, not even pastries and the absolutely worst was they were out of coffee and no one bothered to replenish it!

Review 68:Nice decor; austere but elegant. Strong and consistent wifi signal.

Review 69:We stayed at the Saint Francis for a quick trip to Santa Fe and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. The lobby was beautiful and the staff gave us a warm late-night welcome. The bed and sheets were so comfortable and the decor was the perfect combination of historically authentic and modern. Not to mention the fact that it's an easy walk to anything you'd want to do downtown and on the square. We only wish we'd had more time there!

Review 70:To lose weight, I'm eating these healthy frozen meals and the staff would nuke up my meals for me, without any hassle. Really appreciated that. Plus the location is great. In walking distance to the best coffee in NM: Holy Spirit Coffee. I'd totally stay again.

Review 71:Would like to see fluffier towels, coasters, a pad of paper, an ice bucket in the rooms

Review 72:Great bedding (nice linens, 6 pillows), nice bar (though a bit pricey), desk in room, location, free wifi, attractive decor

Review 73:Room 225 is a joke. The bar did not subtract 15 percent and when pointed out the corrected total was $1 less than the initial bill. Not acceptable.

Review 74:Location, style.

Review 75:I was initially given a room that hadn't been cleaned. I did receive a clean room eventually though. Staff couldn't answer my questions regarding bars. The restaurant was closed two hours before the posted closing time.

Review 76:For someone traveling solo, the monastic quality of the room was fine - small, but well maintained and a place for everything, That room would probably have been difficult for two travelers (Queen bed) . The staff is fantastic and the bar is wonderful.

Review 77:BEAUTIFUL hotel in a perfect location. Would definitely come back and would definitely recommend it to others. The room was small, but very clean, very quiet, newer fixtures.

Review 78:Parking lot has small spaces, but a very helpful staff member told us that using the lot next door would not only save dings in our door but would also save us a little $$. Have always enjoyed our stays here.

Review 79:Bathroom floor was continually wet from the leaking toilet. Room air con was noisy and room temp not constant.

Review 80:Place has history and is well placed to walk around the town. Hotel was interesting and comfortable enough.

Review 81:Very limited control over comfort in the room (had to open a window to avoid roasting while sleeping!

Review 82:Terrific ambiance! Within walking distance of the Plaza, the Shed and Pasqual's!

Review 83:The rooms are very small and one tiny sink space is tight (the sink drains also smelled very bad every night). They ran out of bottled water and made us feel bad asking for water which a luxury hotel at altitude seems wrong. We never received the comfy robes either. We had a nice time but not sure if I would stay again.

Review 84:We stayed for 5 nights over Xmas Holiday. The town was charming. We liked the authenticity of this older hotel and appreciated the great location and simple tasteful decor. The beds were super comfy! Right across street from Pasquale's restaurant which is a plus to put your name in and wait in your room for a fantastic breakfast!!!

Review 85:Value for price is not very good.

Review 86:Interesting historic hotel with a central location. Rooms are very small and designed more for historical aspect than comfort. Great for one night at best.

Review 87:The room was a bit small. Okay for a solo traveller, it would have been tight for two.

Review 88:Simple and serene decor with a monastic theme, beautifully located in old Santa Fe, a real cocktail bar with real cocktails, excellent service, high ceilings and room windows that open.

Review 89:Lovely stone foyer and character but room was small and lighting inadequate. No hotel restaurant but good bar. Atmosphere rather quiet but this might suit some people.

Review 90:The room had a newer bed and linens, but feel the rooms need to be a little more updated and the floors were very squeaky. There was no coffee maker.

Review 91:Helpful staff, within walking distance of many restaurants.

Review 92:The lobby & stairway is made of beautiful stone. The stone echoed loud conversations at 1am up to our room....people were soooo noisy coming in from bars.

Review 93:Great location, comfortable bed, updated bathrooms, stylish & tranquil decor

Review 94:The lighting in the room for making up one's face and shaving wasn't so good. They need to install a makeup/shaving mirror over the lavatory.

Review 95:I liked the location, and we loved the front porch where you could sit with a drink, read or visit with friends.

Review 96:Rooms could be better appointed. There are no full length mirrors, no coffee maker in room and none in loby

Review 97:Staff was very helpful, location is excellent - easy walk to the plaza, comfy bedding, lovely loby and front porch

Review 98:Small bathroom. No mirror in main bedroom. Only one person could use bathroom at a time and it was the only place with a mirror. Only one small glass in entire room. Must share glass! Yuck!! Sheets stained with yellow dots of something.

Review 99:Location. Restoration.

Review 100:Poor or no air conditioning throughout facility No vanity area - one bowl sink next to bed Poor lighting in room Not a good value for King Deluxe room

Review 101:Quaint, lovely facility Quiet Great Bed Great Bar

Review 102:The room was very small and oddly shaped. The sink was at the end of the very narrow room and the toilet/shower area was so small the door had to be closed to use either. The air conditioning did not work until the last night of our stay. It was in the 90s so we opened windows at night to try and get some sleep but then got all the noise from the restaurant kitchen next door. The hotel had no restaurant and the one recommend wasn't open. So,no,I would not recommend the st.Francis

Review 103:Location is great.

Review 104:Was very disappointed with the new look of the hotel - especially the lobby. It used to be very warm, comfortable and inviting with old wood floor and large comfy furniture In front of fireplace. Now it has been remodeled with large archways and a cold, tile-looking floor throughout - resembling a monastery - not what we expected after staying there a few times before. Very cold and uninviting.

Review 105:The staff at the check-in counter were very, very helpful, especially Robert. They helped us to enter our rooms early and were very courteous.

Review 106:A couple in a room down the hall from me brought their dogs and left them in the room, when they went out. The dogs barked on and off. Finally I asked to get a different room and the staff was very accomodating in doing so. I didn't realize that people could bring dogs to the St. Francis and prefer that they not be able to.

Review 107:This was my first time in Santa Fe and at the St. Francis. The hotel was very clean and centrally located which made it very convenient. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. If I go to Santa Fe in th future, I will try to stay at the St. Francis again.

Review 108:Parking fees are pricey but may be norm for the area. Most hotels/motels I stayed at did not charge for parking. It would have been convenient to have a small refrigerator in the room.

Review 109:Convenience of location to the Plaza area. Historic tour pickup at the lobby. Knowable front desk staff.

Review 110:The rooms were equipped like student dorms - there were no towel hooks in any if the bathrooms. Let me repeat, absolutely nowhere to hang even a hand towel. No irons/ironing boards in any of the rooms. One had a broken hand held steamer. One room had drawers that didn't open all the way and no closet. The drawers bumped into the bed so you would have had to move the bed to use them - we didn't bother. Rooms were not soundproof, and dogs were allowed to yap their faces off while left in their owners' respective rooms. Two rooms had broken telephones. I travel frequently for business and never, ever have these problems, even at hotels which are not as pricey or are rated with fewer stars. What a complete disappointment, save your hard earned vacation money and stay elsewhere!!

Review 111:The location and lobby area and bar were beautiful. Wide staircases and lots of beautiful traditional tin accents.

Review 112:The miniscule size of my third-floor room limited my enjoyment of the hotel generally, but other pluses almost made up for this deficit.

Review 113:The cleanliness of the facility, the classiness and helpfulness of the staff, the convenience of the location to the "hub" of SF, and the diversity of guests at HSF are all noteworthy.

Review 114:The bathroom was teeny tiny and the shower curtain leaked all over the tiny floor no matter how we tried to fix it.

Review 115:The beauty of the hotel, wonderful beds, the restaurant is delicious, the bar has the best margarita, and great staff.

Review 116:Noisy, persistent water leak in the shower/tub that was not attended to after mentioning it 3 times to various hotel staff.

Review 117:Coffee on the veranda in the morning. Drinks on the veranda in the late afternoon. Proximity to the Plaza, great food and museums was good for walking.

Review 118:The smaller rooms had minimal space for luggage. Window view into a loud space where garbage trucks did there work. However the worst was probably the shower in a vintage tub, which had two curtains that clung as we each tried to take a basic shower. No ventilation or window to open and there water on floor no matter how we tried to avoid this. May be ok hotel if you choose a larger room with better facilities. But the queen rooms were not pleasant or a good value.

Review 119:Loved the location and ambiance of historic hotel in center of town.

Review 120:Would like to have coffee in the lobby in the morning. Would like to have improved lighting for reading in room and in bathroom.

Review 121:Quiet room on 1st floor, lobby and outside sitting area. Location. Validation for parking in city lot across street.

Review 122:Our room # 105. It was very small, no table or bench to open up our luggage, bathroom small with very little space for toiletries, no amenities such as ice bucket & no ice machine found. Only one chair.

Review 123:Almost everything except the room. liked the patio area.

Review 124:Minimalist decor is stark and uncomfortable feeling. Rooms are undersized and the bathroom was so tiny that it was necessary to step out of the room to dry yourself. No room service. No in room coffee maker. Hotel understaffed.

Review 125:Beds were comfortable. Location is perfect.

Review 126:Bathroom cold.

Review 127:Love the simplicity of the building and décor. Very European.

Review 128:Need to modernize electronic and electrical power connections in rooms, upgrading bathroom.

Review 129:Location; genuine old Santa Fe

Review 130:very small room, no bathtub

Review 131:location

Review 132:Unfortunately my room was by the kitchen exhaust fans which were quite loud and disturbing.

Review 133:Little pricey but you get what you pay for.

Review 134:The comfort and location

Review 135:Had to pay extra for parking.

Review 136:Close to the Plaza and restaurants

Review 137:beauty of the place, location, and staff.

Review 138:Would like a bigger room

Review 139:Good location and good lobby coffee
