Reviews for Westmark Baranof Hotel Juneau

Review 1:The weekends were very noisy between 10pm and 2am...we heard the yelling, screaming, cussing, at night that I did not enjoy and the night the girls were fighting and broke the window.

Review 2:The room was nice, a little small for the price though and you said a kitchenette, saying that I was expecting more like a stove counter, refer, microwave. Instead it was just a refer and microwave. The room was kept clean. Was quite during the weeknights.

Review 3:The service at dinner and breakfast was very poor. The food was not particularly good and was very expensive. We were assured a King room and were given two queen beds...very uncomfortable ones at that.

Review 4:The location was very good. It was within easy walking distance of many places of interest in Juneau.

Review 5:we could hear the elevator constantly from our top floor room plus the ice machine had frequent guests at all hours. Was woken several times from these and also drinks on the street were bellowing up at all hours.

Review 6:The hotel is right downtown on Franklin street. The bed was soft.

Review 7:The reception staff were most uncooperative , they did not turn on the heating in the rooms, and we're not even apologetic for it. The high price did not include breakfast .i would not stay there again

Review 8:The location

Review 9:The price of a cheeseburger!

Review 10:Since I need to downtown it was in a convenient location! Close to the nightlife. Lee and Russell were very helpful. I love having a Starbucks connected to the lobby!

Review 11:The location was right in the center of the downtown area which was very convenient. It was very comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. We had a really great breakfast at their restaurant. I would definitely stay there again.

Review 12:Lots of wasted space in the kitchen. Not sure how to remedy w/o total remodel. Nice to see some of the older remains still of cabinetry. Also, would like to see shuttle service available from airport to hotel. Too bad the locals were screaming at each other outside our room throughout the night.

Review 13:Helpful employees, cafe available, comfortable beds,

Review 14:Kinda flimsy feeling. Young lady at front desk was not welcoming.

Review 15:Very centrally located. Excellent breakfast within the building. Concierge was EXCELLENT, helping us with maps and ideas for our stay.

Review 16:Older setting,of course , but clean and close to downtown Juneau

Review 17:Disgusting and not acceptable cleanliness

Review 18:Staff helpful and friendly.

Review 19:I liked everything

Review 20:Soaking in the bath

Review 21:Too hot in the rooms and I couldn't just the temperature. The knob did not didn't work on the baseboard.

Review 22:It was affordable.

Review 23:No AC. Had to open window a lot of street noise all night no sleep

Review 24:Not Much

Review 25:No airport shuttle. I will definitely look for a closer hotel or one with a shuttle next time.

Review 26:Location

Review 27:The price for this outdated, seriously in need of an overhaul room 909 was way too high.

Review 28:Thé hôtel seemed a little tired. And it was packed so the service was a little slow. But the staff was friendly and eager to help.

Review 29:The staff.

Review 30:The rooms were a little tired.

Review 31:The location. The desk Staff was excellent.

Review 32:Room are are a little dated.

Review 33:Friendly staff and the ability to check in at 7 am.

Review 34:wifi is very slow not even use it.. no disposables toothbrush, shaver & slippers. the coffee maker don't have filter ready..

Review 35:view & bed

Review 36:Everything is within walking distance

Review 37:Comfortable

Review 38:a shirt from a previous customer was on the desk chair

Review 39:close to capitol hill

Review 40:Rooms are small. Pull out bed was extremely uncomfortable.

Review 41:Excellent staff and location.

Review 42:Front desk girl to young ...she's not responsive

Review 43:Hotel staff not very attentive and unable to answer any questions about Juneau and best places to go and see.

Review 44:Central location in Juneau

Review 45:Shuttle service would be nice.

Review 46:Cleanliness, restaurants and bar.

Review 47:You can hear every one in other rooms

Review 48:Nice, clean

Review 49:noise from doors, toilet, and street because window needed to be open because of no AC

Review 50:location

Review 51:I did not like the rave music blasting through the windows until 4:00 a.m. and the inability to cool the room. The adjustment knob on the base board of the heat vent did little to stop the flow of heat even when turned off. I couldn't open the window because of the relentless thumping of music and screaming from the nightclub or house nearby. The hotel is a bit overpriced given these two location and comfort issues.

Review 52:The restaurant, lobby, desk, and courtesy van services were all top notch.

Review 53:The public areas are very drab - mostly done in shades of brown. The desk staff gave us poor advice re facilities on our arrival. There is no guest laundry and no access to laundry service at weekends, which was a problem for us.

Review 54:Good location for sightseeing and walking around the town. Our room was very pleasant and recently redecorated. It was quiet even though right in town. Breakfast was good though not much choice regarding cereals.

Review 55:1. No shuttle from airport means adding an additional $25+ taxi ride each way to cost of hotel. 2. SHABBY entry, under construction for adding a Starbucks kiosk. Why a coffee chain when PLENTY of local AK coffee roasters, which would be preferable. 3. Noisy heat.

Review 56:1. Attentive staff in cafe. 2. Beautiful Bubble Room

Review 57:The rooms were very small, difficult to move around, the walls were very very thin and not soundproof from next door.the concierge was wearing a dirty stained shirt. The waste basket in my room still had someone else's cotton bud in it. The advertising photos have been seriously photoshopped, the nice bright facade in the photo is so far from the actual it is seriously misleading. The breakfast room is chaotic, not a good way to start the day.

Review 58:The location to the pier ans also shops was very good. They did store our luggage.

Review 59:Location downtown...walked everywhere. Great to be in the historic section of Juneau. Liked the touches of its past architectural charm retained during upgrades and renovations - hope you continue to keep those reminders of elegant days gone by.

Review 60:The hotel is old, and the room shows it. Especially the bathroom. Also, being on the second floor on the street side of the building, there was a lot of street noise. Especially at bar closing time.

Review 61:Gold Room restaurant is worth visiting, if only for the large Sydney Lawrence paintings. The food was okay, not great. The staff throughout the hotel was very accommodating.

Review 62:You need signage for your evening Restaurant! Can't even tell it exists.

Review 63:Have stayed there for many years over the last 50 or so, its half way up or down the hill, its convenient, its the meeting place still. keep it that way.

Review 64:the front desk staff failed to phone the wake up call requested; the room attendants failed to clean our room completely on the last night. felt like I was taken advantage of when they charge extra because of our pet and then don't clean room. I see the next question and would only recommend with caution

Review 65:The hotel was right downtown; close to all the old town charm. The hotel does allow pets however the extra cost is higher than most.

Review 66:No courtesy shuttle to and from airport or ferry terminal. Restaurant is very expensive so forced to leave and eat elsewhere. Walls very thin so can hear adjoining rooms.

Review 67:This is nicer hotel with lower price compared to same rated hotels in Alaska. Great location for a tourist. (Shopping, bus, waterfront and restaurants). The old guy piano player jamming with friends is worth hanging out in the lounge/bar.

Review 68:Our first room was very noisy and overlooked a commercial building that looked run down. The second room we had a week later was better overlooking the bay and waterfalls, unfortunately most of the view was overlooking a burnt out retail building. The reception and dining areas were generally good but the bedrooms were in need of a upgrade.

Review 69:Holly in the restaurant, who kept a level head and happy face while under pressure.

Review 70:visible dirt on curtains and blankets. dusty grime on doors, jambs, walls. sink cracked. shower faucet degree markings misleading. overdue for a deep cleaning. could not figure out how to turn t.v. off. remote control missing so no t.v. available in 'fitness center.' Treadmills annoyingly squeaky - time to service them! No cleaning wipes for patrons to clean equipment after selves. Door to 'fitness center' would not lock so random people entered a tiny room with two treadmills, one elliptical, and one universal gym.

Review 71:small, shabby fitness center but great that it has a universal gym. Café has yummy breakfasts. Helpful housekeeping and reception staff. nice new wall to wall carpet.

Review 72:Unfortunately the WMB is quite old and sort of shows as olde worlde but it is noisy at night - loud plumbing and noisy people so don't count on a good nights sleep

Review 73:Suspect the Westmark Baranof is one of the better places to stay in Juneau, which is essentially a place Cruise ships visit on their way through the Inside Passage of Alsaka. Nice food at reasonable prices. Well located. Good Internet - free. And staff who are friendly and helpful.

Review 74:Lack of Eco-friendly options like recycling, reusing towels, etc.

Review 75:Very close to water and mountains for hiking, in historic downtown, easy walking distance to sites or transportation.

Review 76:I found the hotel very noisy with drunk people audible in the street outside and the corridor inside - had a disturbed night with doors slamming. My experience was not unique as I found out on talking with others from my group.

Review 77:The hotel is centrally situated within easy reach of local shops. You are unlikely to be disappointed if you anticipate a basic tourist hotel that caters only for overnight groups en route to their cruise ship.

Review 78:My room was mostly clean, but not on the level one would expect from an upper end hotel of this sort.

Review 79:The hotel is conveniently located in downtown Juneau, if shopping is a priority. The hotel has a historic feel and has an elegant lobby.

Review 80:Pillows hard, warm weather & no ac or method to cool the room. Veryinteresting art work but needed some information re: history of hoteland artwork.

Review 81:Excellent location, good restaurant, friendly staff

Review 82:Too much late night noise in the hallways from other guests.

Review 83:Nice, clean room with comfortable bed and good shower & hot & cold water. Great location & view.

Review 84:We were able to get into our room several hours earlier than expected. Staff responded immediately when we needed more towels and the tv needed to be checked. We had an excellent stay there and the location was very convenient for shopping and sightseeing. The restaurant was very good too!

Review 85:Both staff I talked to about my room mentioned the low rate I got thrubooking.com.They gave me one room looking on to a compressor and a car park,,very loud, then moved me to another that was right on the street. but,,overall, ok...

Review 86:The location right in town is great

Review 87:Room was small, but it was ok - no real complaint.

Review 88:Friendly and helpful staff (except when I asked to play the piano andthe counter staff sent me to the bar manager, and the bar manager sentme to the counter staff....so I just played for 15 minutes and everyoneliked it!)

Review 89:They need a spot to sell water etc.

Review 90:The bathroom was recently updated.

Review 91:Paper thin walls, tiny rooms, poorly trained front desk staff.

Review 92:Friendly bell hops and housekeeping staff. Clean rooms.

Review 93:needed one comfy arnchair

Review 94:Right downtown...very helpful front desk and cleaning staff.

Review 95:The staff was impressively nice and kind. They were really devoted to enhance my experience. They succeeded.

Review 96:Clairaudient room - fortunately the neighbors were more or less quiet during the night

Review 97:hotel looked tired and needs a paint/re vamp

Review 98:central location staff friendly

Review 99:Price of meals in the hotel. We ate elsewhere .

Review 100:Everything

Review 101:the service

Review 102:facilities

Review 103:None

Review 104:Rooms were very small.

Review 105:Cafe server made a big effort to get us sandwiches to go on Sunday noon before a big group came to slow down the kitchen.

Review 106:Noise from street Hot rooms

Review 107:Nice sized room Very good restaurant Good location

Review 108:The king crab and cole slaw dinner gave me upset stomach.

Review 109:Oil paintings in the building by Eustace Ziegler

Review 110:zero

Review 111:Excellent location, good food and service, friendly and helpful staff, availability for 16 of us for one night. Great stay.

Review 112:Staff, Dinning, Clean Hotel

Review 113:Limited parking

Review 114:Friendly staff

Review 115:The staff did not give me a wake up call and I almost missed my flight.

Review 116:A nice hotel but a little on the expensive side.

Review 117:The rooms were very small and the walls were really thin. We heard both occupants in the 2morning rooms around us.

Review 118:The service was great.

Review 119:Rooms - walls are paper thin!

Review 120:Location from downtown.

Review 121:Next visit will choose to be more in nature and out of town

Review 122:Lovely hotel with very helpful and friendly staff

Review 123:the one pillow and the reluctance of the staff to go the distance with enthusiasm.

Review 124:the location

Review 125:Bath tub didn't drain, hair dryer didn't work, too hot.

Review 126:Historic, downtown

Review 127:Slow internet, poor service, poorly trained housecleaning services, shabby facilities.
