Reviews for Inn of the Governors
Review 1:The bed could've been more comfortable.
Review 2:Very charming atmosphere! Loved the fire place in our room! Delicious breakfast. Also really enjoyed the brandy hour!
Review 3:Being able to walk almost anywhere that would interest a visitor. Parking convenience. Wonderful breakfast and sherry and cookies at 4pm. Beautiful new swimming pool. Fireplace in our room and in public rooms. Warm, inviting and friendly atmosphere.
Review 4:Nothing was lacking. It was as close to being a cherished guest in your friends home as you could wish for.
Review 5:The Inn of The Governors was the best priced, best kept, best staffed and best located hotel we could have wanted. It far exceeded other, more expensive hotels we stayed at during our holiday in the south.
Review 6:Great location, one block back of the square, near numerous restaurants. Nice breakfast service. Comfortable room, not elegant, but served its purpose. Good value.
Review 7:Nothing bad. Rooms are fine but not lux. Is less expensive than other accommodations in the same area.
Review 8:Breakfast which was included was excellent. The Plaza and other shopping is close by. Canyon Rd art district also within easy walking distance.
Review 9:In-room coffee maker made the worst coffee ever (retained a strong old-coffee smell). The waitstaff at their Del Charro restaurant or during morning breakfast were not very good. Area restaurants shut down at 5pm sharp and are some are closed Mon-Wed. so you really have to plan ahead for meals (no strolling until you find something that looks good). It should be noted we stayed in January so maybe hours are different during peak travel season.
Review 10:The location was great. Everything is walking distance. Complimentary buffet breakfast is pretty good: plain or rancheros scrambled eggs w/tortilla, waffles, hash browns, bacon/ham/links, fruit, bagels/toast, yogurt, etc.
Review 11:We enjoyed our four night stay at Inn of the Governors very much. The location is great for being in the heart of Santa Fe and the facility has plenty of off street parking. The buffet breakfast is far above average and the afternoon Sherry social hour was very much a plus. We will stay at Inn of the Governors again.
Review 12:The location and welcoming attitude of the staff are both outstanding. Del Charo is a very good place to relax, refresh and dine without breaking the bank. The afternoon Teatime/Sherry Party is a very nice touch.
Review 13:our room on second floor-a superior kings room had no view --parking lot only-- our fire place didn't really work--it smoked the room only -the front staff told us -we may got wet wood.it seems a bit weird that they would even leave wet wood in room.
Review 14:we loved our room-very cozy. The hotel is very closed to center of Santa Fe.Quiet room, small but nice bathroom. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. The staff at breakfast was fantastic -esp.Carlos.
Review 15:Excellent breakfast, well appointed rooms in southwestern style, quite comfortable, very clean. Brandy by the fire in the late afternoon. We had a lovely stay.
Review 16:The Inn has expanded services since we began staying there 8 or 9 years ago. This is especially true for the restaurant which does have very nice margaritas, plus some very tasty offerings---but---this restaurant expansion has generated a whole lot of non-stop, loud noise. We found ourselves getting off the premises as often as we could-- to get some peace and quiet. However--to be fair--the noise did not intrude on our experience in our room---just downstairs in the lobby and dining areas.
Review 17:I like the attention to elegant detail in the decor, the perfect cleanliness, the special touches to provide comfort, the location, the staff, the tasteful artwork all around. The bathrooms are tiny but are arranged in such a way that they do work OK. The breakfasts are legendary.
Review 18:Bathrooms are very dated and small and walls are thin so I heard a neighbors tv and talking which kept me up.
Review 19:Very friendly staff. Awesome location to Historic Plaza area for eating and shopping. And also close to Railyard for the best farmers market. Great complimentary breakfast and great hotel bar Del Charro with reasonable prices. This has loads of southwest charm however and a knowledgable staff.
Review 20:Everything
Review 21:The place is old and worn out. It needs to be updated and cleaned thoroughly. The parking is ridiculous. We ended up parking on the street and having to pay a meter! ridiculous!!
Review 22:Went to Santa Fe for our 25th wedding anniversary over Thanksgiving weekend. Ate a turkey dinner at El Charro and were repulsed by the table next to us. And their dog. Which they fed off of their forks. And let lick their plate clean. It was disgusting. No one ever wished us a happy anniversary and we still gag at the thought of our Thanksgiving dinner and the nasty, smelly dog who ate better than we did. And kept eyeing us for more. Yuk.
Review 23:- Bathroom vent makes A LOT of noise - breakfast staff was a little too pushy asking for tips
Review 24:- Spacious room, comfortable beds - Great reception staff - Sherry and Brandy hour, good quality and nice atmosphere - Breakfast (good variety and quality of eggs and meat, more vegetables would be appreciated) - Overall atmosphere and setting
Review 25:Would have been nicer to have all rooms accessible indoors.. The walk to our room was a little bone-chilling (located outside main hotel).
Review 26:Pretty much everything. We had King Room, excellent and flavorful design. The fireplaces!
Review 27:Love, loved our stay! The staff was friendly & helpful. Our room was very clean. The location was perfect & had lots of restaurants & shops in walking distance. The breakfast buffet had a wonderful selection of very good food. I couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. I will definitely be going back!
Review 28:Being asked for tips for self service breakfast ! One muppet serves you a glass of juice. Here's a tip, put orange juice out with the rest of the self service.
Review 29:Location, bar and bar food available on site
Review 30:The Inn is very well located within walking distance of anything one might want to do in the center of Santa Fe. In addition, the breakfast was one of the nicest I have encountered in my travels, with local dishes that were outstanding.
Review 31:Upon checking is with a friend, I was told that I wasn't getting the same benefits as my friend since we made a reservation through booking.com. that was a rediculous thing to say to me and colored my entire visit in a negative way.
Review 32:Location, pool
Review 33:I was hoping for a family room with a fireplace. Their restaurant during the evening is just mediocre. Some decore needs updating (broken globe in lobby). Their featured jewelry artists were not kid friendly and lost a big sale for that.
Review 34:Tea and sherry hour. Breakfast in the am. Friendly staff. Warm pool. Elegant, small, good for families
Review 35:Everything about this property was great! It was in walking distance to plaza, shops and attractions. Parking and wifi were free and the complimentary breakfast was outstanding!
Review 36:the first person to greet us was the parking attendant and she was most helpful and courteous. What a nice way to welcome your guests - she was looking out for us!
Review 37:One staff person I spoke with seemed uninterested and bothered to have to give restaurant recommendations.
Review 38:Location was great and less expensive than our normal Inn of the Anasazi
Review 39:The bed was not as comfortable as when we stayed in the hotel before. but linens , towels, etc were all nice.
Review 40:We have stayed here before.. The breakfast was just incredible!!!!! very clean room….Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful flowers..
Review 41:Such a beautiful hotel! Gorgeous to stay in. Couldn't find a single thing we didn't love. Easy walking to The Plaza and plenty of parking. Fantastic hotel.
Review 42:Everyone on the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, making great suggestions on where to eat, things to see, etc. And they all smiled and greeted us on a regular basis. We liked that!
Review 43:Santa Fe is expensive and Inn of the Governors is no exception! Motel style layout of the "cheaper" rooms was a bit disappointing
Review 44:Good location close to the plaza, comfortable rooms, attractive layout and pool. Bar & restaurant are good value, very busy, service good.
Review 45:Room was a little musty but the overall experience more than made up for it.
Review 46:The location in downtown was perfect for mini walking trips around the city. The breakfast was outstanding; we lingered for quite a while over coffee before hitting the pavement.
Review 47:The staff was one of the best, friendliest and efficient I have experienced! The breakfast buffet was one of the best if not the best in Santa Fe included in the daily room rate, amazing!
Review 48:I felt that the breakfasts could have offered a little bit more healthy options that weren't just store bought cereal...For example, a fruit and bran muffin to go with the nice fruit...but that said, my husband loved the spicy eggs and sausage and all!
Review 49:The location is fabulous. The property is attractive with exuberant planter boxes on the balconies and a gorgeous new pool.
Review 50:The swimming pool was closed, a major drawback which affected our view on facilities & value for money. At breakfast simple requests like boiled eggs took a long time, and a request for plain not sweet yoghurt had to be regularly repeated.
Review 51:The staff at reception were amazingly helpful. The atmosphere was very friendly. The room with patio was delightful and kept spotless.
Review 52:Parking at the Inn can sometimes be a problem. Prefer wider parking spaces. I stay here because of the free and non-valet parking.
Review 53:Location and convenience to main square. Convenience of good on site restaurant with breakfast included.
Review 54:The pool was being restored and the solution to go to a neighboring hotel was not really viable. I believe we should have received some type of discount or additional gift.
Review 55:We did not realize until we went to bed that our room was directly over the bar.!! Noise all night long from, first the bar, then the garbage truck, then the food purveyor truck! Also noise from pool reno. Our last stay here. Was once a favorite.
Review 56:Going to the Santa Fe Opera
Review 57:Noise - this is a noisy location until late every night and the "construction" on the pool started EARLY!
Review 58:Location and on site food were great!
Review 59:The location was very convenient to the Santa Fe Plaza and the flower boxes that lined the railings were beautiful. However, our room was near a very noisy road. If I stayed there again I would request a room in another part away from Alameda.
Review 60:We have stayed here several times and always enjoyed it. On this trip, my wife injured her foot and the staff was very helpful in providing wheelchair assistance and information on nearby medical facilities.
Review 61:The late night staff tends to be young and less professional.
Review 62:The staff was always helpful, professional and caring. I'd stay here again without hesitation..
Review 63:Bathroom & air conditioner are old but they both work well and the bathroom is very clean and it has a good layout.
Review 64:Great value and location. Lovely staff and the room was nice. With the parking and breakfast included it makes this a place TERRIFIC!
Review 65:The only reason we selected this hotel was the pool when we arrived it was being renovated. The room 247is on the street corner it was very noisy couldnt sleep. Got woke at6 am every morn. Very disappointed for the money we spent. Was over charged on the bill and had to get that corrected.
Review 66:Construction. No pool (due to construction). Small room. Spendy for time during construction.
Review 67:Quiet room. Quality breakfast. Loved the location. Staff super friendly.
Review 68:No bad experience except that they are putting in a new swimming pool and outdoor area that is still under construction, eliminating a good portion of the parking lot during the building process.
Review 69:Its relatively small size, coziness and fabulous location, friendly staff, sherry & Mexican cookies at 4pm. Wonderful breakfast and generally warm atmosphere.
Review 70:Great warm, friendly environment and staff. Upon checking upgraded our room without us asking to Governors wing, nice room and large with small balcony. Warm reception area with games and nice afternoon tea, sherry tasting hour. Great location in old historic Santa Fe close to everything.
Review 71:The pool was dug up and out of commission in the summer. I had counted on the pool after the warm days of browsing through art galleries. Seemed like poor planning on management's part.
Review 72:Staff was excellent - very helpful and good about problem solving.
Review 73:I don't consider these comments negative. Just factual information. The parking was a little tight for our large SUV. The pool was under construction (that's a temporary issue & not a negative feature)
Review 74:Our room was perfectly appointed. A little on the small side for the price but the location made up for that. Walking distance to everything on the plaza. Great food! Great margaritas! Great staff.
Review 75:had to move rooms 3 times because the air conditioners did not work. The pool was being redone and I didn't find out until I had made the reservation, was too late to cancel
Review 76:the staff was very courteous and helpful, the rooms were very nice and clean, our stay was enjoyable even though we had to move 3 times
Review 77:Despite a few communications from the hotel and Booking.com ahead of our stay, nobody said that the hotel pool was under construction. The hotel had an arrangement with another hotel with actually a better pool, but that meant a walk down the block with our swim things and also construction noise in our room.
Review 78:Location is fantastic for walking. The restaurant really was a good value for a family lunch.
Review 79:Pool was under construction and unfortunately the pool was the only reason I chose to stay here over the other places. Over all facilities looked run down. Breakfast was mediocre.
Review 80:Manager was nice
Review 81:The restaurant/bar is always busy at the dinner hour. Seems to be short staffed every evening we have dinner in the restaurant. Staff exhibits the best that can be done but it is crazy most of the time. Recommendation: Hire more staff. It will contribute to a better dining experience and the frantic behavior of the servers will be eliminated. Generally, if we have a 4 night stay, we eat at the restaurant 3 out of 4 evenings.
Review 82:Quality of personnel and great location.
Review 83:We were upgraded to a Superior room on arrival, which sounded great. Unfortunately, Room 247 has two windows overlooking busy streets. The motorcycles, street traffic and loud talking from the bar made for fitfull sleeping all 3 nights. Never again!
Review 84:Happy hour too brief and not quite sufficiently elaborate. Great idea - - step it up - do wine - only academics do sherry. A little cheese would go a long way. Cut the pineapple.
Review 85:Location. Breakfast staff.
Review 86:The stay was wonderful. The staff was always ready to help, even when you don't ask them. Quiet and clean room, beds of beautiful flowers outside, fantastic breakfast. Lots more info. but book now.
Review 87:Pool was being redesigned.
Review 88:Short walking distance to square. Afternoon sherry tasting was a treat. What a huge variety of items for breakfast...loved the scrambled eggs with chilis and cheese!
Review 89:We had an outside room on the street so it was a little noisy with trucks and cars with loud pipes driving by so bring a fan!
Review 90:Delicious breakfast buffet each morning and a fun sherry and tea happy hour! The room was very clean and staff helpful and friendly.
Review 91:Bit overpriced, but it is a beautiful hotel.
Review 92:Location is great! For an overnight stay, comfortable for a family of four; convenient for a family of five with a sleeping bag since the room is small.
Review 93:The rooms were smaller than what is perceived from pictures online.
Review 94:We liked that there was parking provided, and we had easy access to the downtown/ square from the hotel. Breakfast was good, as well as the onsite restaurant.
Review 95:Pool was under construction and it was never mentioned.
Review 96:The beds and pillows were perfect and we slept very well. Breakfast was more than fantastic. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 97:The hospitality and warmth of the staff. Sam's wonderful gesture and gift of champagne and chocolate strawberries in honor of our 50th anniversary. Mayra's warmth and friendliness.
Review 98:The pool was out of service when we asked about this, we were told the information was on their website. Since I booked through booking.com, I was unaware of this. Also our room was next to the Main Street, so it was noisy.
Review 99:Breakfast and location were good
Review 100:On room was on the street side of the property. A lot of vehicle noise. The bed and pillows need upgraded.
Review 101:Within walking distance of plaza and restaurants
Review 102:Very nice breakfast buffet. Charlene, a 25 year employee, made me feel like I was returning home as soon as I stepped out of my car. She was a gem and a great personal face for the hotel. Most of the other employees that we met were very nice too, none of the often-found Santa Fe "snootiness".
Review 103:Not enough easy access wall sockets for phone chargers. One was near floor where light was connected, only others were in bathroom.
Review 104:Lovely room (Superior room), kiva fireplace and comfortable double queen beds. Close to all that Santa Fe has to offer. Delightful sherry/biscuits each afternoon at 4pm in Lobby. Great pub bar in hotel visited by lots of locals. Breakfast buffet was very good also.
Review 105:I have stayed at Inn of the Governors several times and always find the staff to be helpful, the breakfast great and the location awesome. We will be staying there again.
Review 106:I recognize that the Hotel Loss of power for a while one day and loss of water for a while another day can't be controlled. However, we found the rooms to less of a value for the money. Restrooms, shower, floors and ceilings are out-of-date. Shower knob came off and difficult to control water temp. So, for us, the location was made the less value tolerable.
Review 107:We really liked the location and easy walk to the square, shops and gallery. The breakfast food was very good (both hot and cold dishes). Staff was always friendly.
Review 108:Nothing I didn't like.
Review 109:This is my go-to place to stay in Santa Fe. Love the kiva fireplace in the room! Breakfast is a good value, as is the hotel bar. Location, steps away from the plaza, is perfect!
Review 110:The Inn is quite a bit larger than it seems in the website photos so there were more people at the inn than expected. When they complete the construction on their new pool, their main entrance and grounds will look nice again.
Review 111:Close to the square, surprisingly quiet, and furnished with lovely furniture and small little niceties like a beautiful copper tin holding ear plugs. A great breakfast, made on site, not bought and warmed up. Tea and sherry for guests in the afternoon.
Review 112:Parking was an issue. The lobby & public areas seemed a bit gloomy as windows were covered to hide the rebuilding of the pool.bathrooms are very small.
Review 113:Breakfast was very good. It was certainly more than ample with many choices. Also enjoyed the afternoon sherry & cookies. Rooms were adequate, but not outstanding. Staff was especially friendly & helpful.
Review 114:Parking spaces are incredibly small; watched numerous door dings occur; Railroad tie pulled my front bumper off backing out of space; lucky it could be snapped back in place (Volvo XC). The few good, wide space are gone very quickly.
Review 115:Delightful stay with pleasant and helpful staff, good food, and central location.
Review 116:For the buffet breakfast was average. You are given a voucher with your room number on it. There is a place for you to sign your name as well as a place to leave a tip. I ate there two mornings in a row. The only 'service' I received was a one time question concerning a beverage. I asked for juice and water, however I was never asked if I wanted a refill. Their coffee and tea is self serve. They should have all beverages self serve and pay their help better so they don't have to ask for a tip.
Review 117:I enjoyed that Inn of the Governors was walking distance to everything. I liked that the parking was on site and no extras fees were charged for the service. They even had an attendant in the parking for security.
Review 118:The room overlooked the parking lot - which is not tragic, but ours was just under a roof so it was really dark. It might be that on booking through Booking.com they give you the less nice ones.
Review 119:It was in all a comfortable stay.
Review 120:The street noise is terrible unless you have a superior room ( I am told). After 2 AM it is okay.
Review 121:Location and the breakfast was good. Staff was helpful. Pool was not in operation but were advised ahead of time.
Review 122:The room was a bit cramped with two queen beds.
Review 123:The two-queen bed room was very quiet. The included parking and great breakfast take a lot of sting out of the price. Overall , excellent value for an in-town hotel.
Review 124:The location of the hotel is right on Alameda Rd. It is very noisy and loud! Cars and motorcycles you can hear on the Fri, Sat & Sun. until about 1 or 2 am.
Review 125:The breakfast was great!
Review 126:Only noisy next door neighbors which when the front desk was alerted became quiet.
Review 127:Staff were exceptional in this traditional Santa Fe hotel. LOVELY room with fireplace and balcony made our stay PERFECT. Outstanding housekeeping, YUMMY breakfast, VERY comfortable! We'll be back!
