Reviews for La Fonda on the Plaza

Review 1:Some of the acoustics can make certain rooms a little noisier at night than I would hope for.

Review 2:Every La Fonda detail captures the spirit and local color of Santa Fe. Staff, service, all excellent.

Review 3:Truthfully, we were so excited to stay here and then discovered the night before arriving that the bar area, which is a center for socializing in the lobby and gives the entire area its charm, was closed for renovations. I called reception and said we were so disappointed and they graciously canceled our reservation for us. So - didn't get to stay, but they were so gracious and classy that it does not mar my opinion in any way!! And I have been coming to Santa Fe yearly since 1986.

Review 4:What can I say about the charming, famous La Fonda except kudos!

Review 5:Check out was an issue. The rate quoted on Bookings was including taxes and they thought not. Resolved finally but not a good experience.

Review 6:Great staff overall

Review 7:There is nothing I would change about the hotel or our experience there.

Review 8:The Hotel is beautiful old Santa Fe Style located on a corner of the historic plaza. It's walking distance to restaurants, galleries, interesting local artisan shopping, museums and many historic churches and adobe structures. Our room was an amazing Santa Fe style suite with the most comfortable bed! We were surprised by an upgrade to the concierge floor with private entrance and full breakfast served in the suite each morning. The room had a large balcony that overlooked the Loretto Chapel and Loretto Hotel that was lined with luminaries illuminated all night...a beautiful view! The suite had a shower with separate soaking tub that was definitely enjoyed. The big terry bathrobes were a perfect compliment to the the bubble bath. The Hotel Cantina had live music each night and great margaritas! The Hotel Restaurant served delicious Southwest food. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and made us feel like very welcome guests. We stayed over Christmas and the entire city celebrates. Lumninaries lined all buildings and the entire plaza on Christmas Eve, a light snow fell creating the perfect winter wonderland...it was magical! Carolers walked the streets, the church bells chimed as Christmas Eve service began at historic Saint Francis Basilica. I definitely recommend Christmas in Santa Fe at La Fonda Hotel on the Plaza!

Review 9:I absolutely loved the accommodations at La Fonda. The rooms were spacious and clean and had great amenities. Every staff member was friendly and professional! Gabby, James N., and Martin went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible! I would stay here again in a heart beat! The hotel restaurant had the best margarita's, too!

Review 10:Busy lobby does make the hotel a little less charming. Certain hotel staff could be more friendly to guests.... A smile and greet makes the difference. Concierge staff were awesome, always helpful, smiley and polite! Thumbs up to Nate for his cheerful mannerism!!!

Review 11:Awesome location, great food and unique decor with a local twist.

Review 12:Hotel is right on the Plaza- close to everything! Love that the hotel is so reflective NM culture. Enjoyed the local band in the cantina area. Our room was delightful. Nice firm king size bed. Would have enjoyed a view of the Plaza rather than the street.

Review 13:Bar was nice, but not enough stools. Only 5 seats at the bar is inadequate. Wifi was weak at times.

Review 14:Nice size. Easy to get around. Friendly staff. Excellent location.

Review 15:Regular rates are more than we want to pay per night.

Review 16:Location is perfect. Staff and room were very nice. Stay was during a reduced rate sale, which made it a value. We would stay there often at the rates we received on this trip.

Review 17:A beautiful, historic hotel - it has good restaurants, shops and amenities. It is a short walk to the plaza, the cathedral and several of the museums.

Review 18:My favorite hotel in Santa fe and after renovation us perfection. Asked for balcony and fireplace and got exactly that overlooking the famed cathedral. Also updated electronics for all my devices and toys.finally friendly diverse staff including indigenous people

Review 19:The internet service was terrible! It was constantly disconnecting. When I spoke to management about this, they said they could see no problems.

Review 20:Very good location & service. Food was great! Love the french bistro onsite.

Review 21:The room was beautiful in every way: the doors...and especially the sliding barn wood -style door in the bathroom, beautiful tile, great beds and wonderful space for everything. We also loved the size of the bathroom.

Review 22:Great difficulty to locate the hotel without gps and before to locateold Town coming from I 25. There are no indications on the Highwayabout the exit

Review 23:Location near the PlazaFrench restaurant

Review 24:Historic hotel in the heart of Santa Fe. Staff outstanding and very attentive to any needs. The staff had the best attitude of any hotel of this type I have ever experienced.

Review 25:They were wonderful, professional and very accommodating. They upgraded to a suite which is one of the loveliest rooms I have ever stayed in. Also, the hotel is very quite! Will return, loved Santa Fe, NM.

Review 26:Was very upset about the roaches in the bathroom of first room we were in. The mattress in second room was very poor quality.People in lounge were very rude and unfriendly.

Review 27:Love the location, the restaurant and decor. The staff was super friendly and helpful.

Review 28:The large, spacious room. The hotel honored our request for a rollaway. The concierge, Rebecca, was very helpful. Dining room waiter was friendly. Checking in ad checking out was fast and friendly.

Review 29:front desk staff seemed inconvenienced, irritated each time we interacted with them. Sheets were rough and scratchy. Very busy hotel - noisy and chaotic. Terraces where we stayed were better (quieter). Patio chairs not comfortable.

Review 30:Best service was from valet Nate. They should clone him.

Review 31:Small pool enclosed by parking structure and the fact that even a discounted room price seemed too high

Review 32:The location on the corner of the plaza, roof top bar and shops built into the beautifully maintained historic building

Review 33:Only drawback is that the plaza area is so busy that getting in and out of the hotel by car takes a little time.

Review 34:Lovely complimentary breakfast - and you get to choose what you want!

Review 35:Would have liked 2 beds.

Review 36:I have to say there were a few employees who really made our stay memorable. Patrick (front desk) Leo (bartender) and Mario (server) it was my mother and I traveling together to celebrate her birthday. The view was amazing.

Review 37:No bad experiences.

Review 38:The room was very quiet and private. The location was very convenient having easy access to many restaurants, shops and many places of interest. The concierge, John Felix, was especially helpful in making our stay enjoyable and interesting.

Review 39:The room (standard one) was so small that I had to climb over the bed to get to the closet if my husband was seated at the desk. Also, I was told we had a "beautiful view". It was a view of the parking lot.

Review 40:It is a beautiful hotel and each and every staff member was efficient and welcoming. I would like to especially comment the concierge, Rebecca, who went out of her way to be accommodating all the while smiling. Also, the food was excellent in Lafiesta.

Review 41:Location and comfortable sitting areas, great food an drinks. We enjoyed the live music in the bar when we arrived in the evening. Concieger made reservations at a lovely place for a late dinner.

Review 42:Loved the suite-its comfort and spaciousness but especially the wonderful art decor. My sister and I could not believe the price for a luxury room with balcony. the staff were very friendly, helpful, and sincere. Our only wish was that we were able to stay several more days!

Review 43:at check in they had given one of my rooms away - no explanation. After a few unpleasant moments they did accommodate me. But I am of the firm belief that these hotels kick out reservations that have been made through a third party site.

Review 44:I like the hotel - a lot. I think it has charm and most definitely a lot of history. Perfectly located, and kid, adult, and animal friendly.

Review 45:i think the concierge could have been a bit more patient and polite..since we were new to the city, he seemed a bit snippy and seemed disturbed and condescending by our questions....he needs to get another job.....not a good reflection of your hotel....but we had an excellent person taking care of our room, her name was Maria, front desk clerks were amazing, and the servers in all the restaurants were great, especially Leo at the bar....

Review 46:The ambience, the food, the music, the fifth floor bar, the decor, the location, the history of the hotel, the workout room...mahalo!

Review 47:Our room was really close to the Cathedral and the bells rang EARLY (by 7 am) and late - be prepared, every 15 mins..

Review 48:Room was fantastic, as were the hotel itself and the food.

Review 49:the step into the tub in br was very dangerous. Also step into br itself. Floor map should be posted.

Review 50:Convenience of location. Friendliness of staff

Review 51:Restaurant food too expensive. Parking lot fees not necessary for hotel guests and room rates too high. Dollies needed for the transport of baggage from parking garage to room are not available without the services of a bellhop.

Review 52:Location, cleanliness, and service and staff courtesy.

Review 53:We weren't able to get our truck into the parking garage, so had to park up the hill, and had to keep going back to pay for the daily parking. Not really convenient!

Review 54:Staff was amazing, we utilized the concierge services and the front desk people took care of everything we needed!

Review 55:No refrigerator or microwave. Our 1 bedroom suite was at the end of a long hallway. The small balcony over looked the pool and not the beautiful city.

Review 56:Beautiful building and rooms. Very clean. Great location, middle of every thing.

Review 57:Complementary breakfast and parking would have been nice but it was still a pretty good value.

Review 58:The ambiance of this hotel is fantastic. There are numerous artworks displayed throughout the hotel. The room has been renovated and is very tasteful and comfortable.

Review 59:Nothing

Review 60:This is a landmark charged with history, ideally located in Santa Fe. It immediately makes you feel comfortable. Our room was not big, but very cosy and functional, with a nice bathroom. Although it opened on the street on the first floor, the room was quiet. Very kind and helpful staff. Good La Plazuela restaurant, though a bit pricy.

Review 61:It was a bit of a trek (and two different lifts) to get to our room but that wouldn't put me off staying there again.

Review 62:Our room was an unusual shape but plenty big enough and quite charming; the balcony was a bonus. Cheese, biscuits and fruit was left in our room early evening which was nice.

Review 63:Food was good but rich and very limited gluten-free selections. Hard to eat simply, it was all big and rich but can't complain about portion size. I suppose the fare is typical for the region but it was hard for me. I'm not a spicy food eater and can't do dairy.

Review 64:I slept great every night and don't usually sleep well in a hotel. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and cozy. The location is just off the Plaza and close to so many things to see and do in a short walk.

Review 65:The bed was ok but on the hard side! A memory foam topper would help tremendously! No tub to soak in after hiking!!

Review 66:The location, the decor and the cleanliness!

Review 67:Room booked was not what was promised. Front desk was not able to provide due to booking so issued a small credit when all I really wanted was to have the room I had paid for. Was a little disappointed as this was a trip I booked six months in advance for a mom/daughter vacation.

Review 68:Close to plaza

Review 69:Internet service was way too slow. French pastry cafe lacks good service. I love the food.

Review 70:My bed was great, the pace slowed down, I regained my energy and power

Review 71:So the guys told me that (1) they were going to change the fridge and then (2) no the fridge is ok you just have to adjust the thermostat and then (3) ah you didn't adjust the thermostat well we'll send you somebody and finally (4) we are sorry sir but our fridges are outdated and most of them are really noisy ...

Review 72:Room 638 floor was waxed and carpet was not taped down we kept sliding and almost falling when stepping on rug and floor. The bed mattress must be replaced it has broken down on both sides and both ends. I felt as if my feet were above my head when laying down very uncomfortable.

Review 73:Location, location, location. Staff professional and Terrace Concierge Colby gave us exceptional restaurant recommendations eLoisa,of course our first and wonderful meal was at LA Fonda

Review 74:In a city of art galleries, La Fonda is an art gallery in itself. The paintings, frescoes, glass work, and sculptures were beautiful. Our room (deluxe king) was spacious and comfortable, as well as beautifully decorated.

Review 75:Service in the bar area was rather slow even when they weren't busy. The barn doors for the bathrooms were nice looking but didn't really provide any noise privacy.

Review 76:The art work in the halls and in the rooms and the friendly staff.

Review 77:The concierge service contacted us before our arrival! Each person at the concierge desk knew the locale and was happy to provide advice about sites of interest, the best way to get there and places to eat. The location of the hotel was superb and made it easy to walk to most of the places of interest even at the altitude of 6500 ft. The art in the hotel was lovely and very appropriate to New Mexico.

Review 78:Very slow elevators. Bed linen - duvet kept falling out near your face and the sheets didn't have a crisp feel or attractive look. Expensive stay!

Review 79:Staff. Easy to find covered parking. Lots of shops close by. Quiet room

Review 80:Wish staff would have intervened when apathetic parents let child run up and down hallway screaming loudly in play while we and others were trying to have a nice meal in the restaurant. Very young children of same family commandered whirlpool and screamed/yelled/jumped and splashed while adults were trying to relax and talk with fellow guests.

Review 81:Staff were polite, friendly without being obsequious, efficient. Hotel had great historic feeling but fully modern conveniences.

Review 82:The service was great our pet got a goodie bag upon arrival, the location was excellent staff was really helpful and friendly, overall a great experience and will defiantly be back any time we can

Review 83:Rooms could use a good chair and tv channels a better guide.

Review 84:Excellent location within walking distance of many key sites. Friendly, helpful and positive staff. Good restaurant and shops in the hotel.

Review 85:We loved it, especially the southwest décor which was even more beautiful than the pictures. The ambiance of the hotel is also very warm and inviting. I highly recommend it and would go back again.

Review 86:Windows needed washing for a better view. Rates quoted on booking.com did not reflect weekend rates so ended up spending quite a bit more for Sunday night than quoted.

Review 87:The decore and history of the hotel and the art work was amazing. Lots of room to move around in the hotel and fun to be on the Plaza.

Review 88:There was nothing that we didn't like.

Review 89:The room was so wonderfully appointed and we took pictures of everything. The staff was so friendly and happy to help.

Review 90:I would have liked more storage spaces. The room was small and needed spaces for living out of suitcases.

Review 91:The location was wonderful. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had stayed there before and found the redecorating great.

Review 92:Noisy rooms. We requested a quiet room after having been put in a room across from the elevator during our previous stay and we were placed in a room across from housekeeping headquarters with an adjoining room. We could here every sniffle from the guy in the adjoining room. That was disappointing. Especially since we had to pay $80 more than we did only 2 days earlier (perhaps because it was on a weekend night)

Review 93:Very comfortable beds, great food, perfect location

Review 94:Navigation inside the hotel is little confusing, not marked enough, regarding elevator, garage, restrooms...

Review 95:Excellent location in the centrum of historic part of Santa Fe, wonderful hotel environment; several of choices of restaurants/caffe, galleries, directly inside the hotel. Despite the hotel is busy, you always find little quiet areas to sit comfortably and enjoy. Pleasant helpful staff. Excellent room service excelent. Easy and free parking in the hotel garage.

Review 96:Small room. Requested 2 double beds but was given a king rm with s rollaway! Not comfortable and very cramped!

Review 97:Love the La Fonda! Great ambiance! Great food! Attentive staff!

Review 98:Maid was knocking like crazy on the door. I prefer not to be disturbed and inform the front desk when there is a need.

Review 99:Very Central with parking facility

Review 100:No bath tub in room and the staff was less than helpful in trying to change our room

Review 101:The hotel has great charm; wonderful art; and exceptional location.

Review 102:Very crowded restaurants and lengthy waits. Begging on street.

Review 103:Great staff support, great food and holiday decorations galore. Plus it was a white Christmas.

Review 104:After bringing an issue to the staff about a problem with our room, they immediately went out of their way to resolve the situation, and provided a wonderful, suite to make up for the problem. They handled it in the best way possible.

Review 105:The booking/reservation process was abysmal. We were travelling in a family group and had explicitly requested a room with two beds when making the reservation through booking.com. When calling La Fonda to confirm our reservations they day before, we were dismayed to find they had us in a room with a single bed, although they noted that the reservation did request two beds. Their staff member tried to point the finger at booking.com - which I didn't need or care to hear about. I wanted them to focus on how to get us into a room that would accommodate us for the stay. They eventually focused on addressing the situation, and got us into a room with an additional folding bed. The rest of our stay was great, but if I'd known in advance that the process would have been so fraught with challenge, we may have chosen alternative accommodation or avoided using booking.com as the intermediary.

Review 106:Beautiful historic building, with great amenities and local artwork through-out.

Review 107:Slow service at the bar.

Review 108:I love everything at the La Fonda. The staff is friendly and helpful, it is centrally located, lots of folks mingling around. What's not to like!

Review 109:I requested a room with 2 beds since it was my 2 pre teen daughters and I(dad). They initially put me in a room with a single queen. I went to the front desk and all double rooms were booked. Thu made it clear that it was their fault and apologized immediately. All double rooms were booked EXCEPT the best room in the hotel on their much envied terrace level with an amazing view and a personal concierge! They gladly gave me this room at no extra charge without me having to ask and also gave me a voucher for a free breakfast for us all the next morning! The room was awesome. The next night we stayed we had to be downgraded to a deluxe room. But it was nice as well. But man the first room was awesome! Great staff! Can't say enough about them! Went above and beyond my expectations (which tend to be on the high side) and VERY polite!

Review 110:The dumpsters under our window were continually emptied between 1:41a & 5a! NEVER stay on a Monday night!!!

Review 111:Classy hotel, close to everything in town! The parking garage attendants were outstanding!! WiFi was free & easy access but very slow. Front desk always had someone to answer your questions!

Review 112:Ask for LaTerraza floor. Largest and most luxuriest room ever. You have your own concierge and private entrance. Bath for 2, shower for 2 really nice.

Review 113:The bell tower was closed - for winter, so a good reason.

Review 114:Great location; convenient parking; very nice, refined atmosphere; lovely patio to have a desert/cocktail. Rooms were very comfortable, clean and spacious

Review 115:Too many steps around property to navigate - from parking garage to front desk, getting to street, inside room from bathroom to sleeping room. Room was cold and had to run heat most of the night. Outside windows dirty. Window treatments need to be replaced. (Maybe this room did not get the recent renovation?) Couch fabric in sitting room very worn. Shower head needs cleaning. Maybe using Booking.com gets inferior rooms?

Review 116:Overall ambience of the hotel. Physical location to the Plaza. Fireplace in lobby always burning. French bakery inside hotel.

Review 117:The mattress was a bit soft

Review 118:We enjoyed our brief stay at this wonderful property. We loved the well-kept historic building, the art including paintings and furnishings, the excellent location, wonderful food and friendly service. We will stay here again.

Review 119:Love the overall look of historic NM architecture/ wood and Adobe.. It's the real deal. Great art work all over the hotel. The restaurants are wonderful New Mexican fare. Roof top bar is fabulous seasonally, not open in winter.

Review 120:Massage experience could have been a bit more organized. There should be someone at a desk to greet & assist (with someone unfamiliar with the facility). However; the massage was great.

Review 121:Kindness, caring & attention to detail of the wait staff. Housekeepers were par excellence! Lovely stay! Thank you!

Review 122:Terrace level room was wonderful. A hot tub in the room was an unexpected pleasure. The concierge on the floor went out of her way to be helpful. Cocktails in the loby bar at the end of the Santa Fe trail is a great way to wind down a day around town.

Review 123:The rooms were spacious and attractive - we even had a shared outdoor area to enjoy The history of the hotel and its authenticity - the art work on all the walls was beautiful The location was perfect Customer service - advice from a concierge on our floor (Eric and Pamela) was wonderful Free gourmet breakfast from the excellent restaurant every day and cheese board on arrival were above and beyond touches The rooftop bar was fantastic

Review 124:Room small - hard to open luggage. Bed frame stuck out beyond the bed - several banged toes. Shower had no door - water on floor. Worst feature - no bellhop when we needed one - garage a long walk from the room.

Review 125:Location off the Plaza was great -- very walkable. Parking garage a very welcome asset.

Review 126:LIVE MUSIC IN DINING ROOM BAR AREA TOO LOUD. WANTED TO HEAR THE MUSIC. WOULDN'T LET US SIT AT A TABLE AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE BAR, SO I CARRIED OUR DINNER TO OUR ROOM. TABLE WAS VACANT. WHY ????? COULDN'T WE USE IT. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY PLEASANT FOR US.

Review 127:Location

Review 128:The concierges were not as helpful with restaurants close by. Parking could be a part of the stay given the price of the hotel.

Review 129:Very decorative and fun. Location.
