Reviews for Boardwalk Inn

Review 1:The hotel is by a busy road which was surprisingly noisy. Rooms are comfortable but dated. Breakfast was modest/continental fare but adequate.

Review 2:We appreciated friendly staff in a great location near ferry service. We were able to walk to dinner which was great. The building itself is beautiful. This hotel provides excellent value for price.

Review 3:If I came again.. I'd want a room farther from the road.. The view was beautiful, but the sounds of the cars, not so much.

Review 4:Lovely room and view with friendly staff. Very charming place!

Review 5:The continental breakfast was very limited. The furniture was outdated in rooms, table wobbly, bathroom sink was a table made on top of a tub...hard to get to mirror.

Review 6:The location was good.

Review 7:it took a long time for the heat to come on, we slept in our clothes and the parking lot was on the side of a hill. Difficult to park and manuever in and out.

Review 8:beautiful building

Review 9:a very large room, 2 queen beds. It's an older inn which made it special, different. they had a nice breakfast room upstairs, antique furniture.

Review 10:It was very convenient to downtown services and an easy walk to the ferries. Easy parking. The ambience was like staying in your grandmother's house which we enjoyed. Not a sterile and impersonal ambience that most regular motels/hotels have.

Review 11:Bare breakfast provided. Old, old, old.

Review 12:Fairly clean, old, old, old, without the charm of a boutique hotel. Beds were reasonable. Window air conditioner. Hot water.

Review 13:we waited for over an hour to go less than five miles on the casino shuttle. Drive its much easier. On Friday morning about 530am we thought a 747 was landing on the building. We stayed in the front room looking at the water and can attest to the high level of decibels created by a street sweeper. Back room first floor is the place to be.

Review 14:cost conveniently located

Review 15:it was a continental breakfast which was advertised but there was no fruit which was a bit disappointing. But other than that it was an amazing place.

Review 16:The rooms were very clean and each room was a bit different we had a great view of the lake and the owners greeted us with a smile every time they saw us for a smaller place it was a fantastic stay.

Review 17:There were no chairs or anywhere to sit in the room other then the bed.No dressers to put clothes. Bathroom was clean but so small that you hadto step beside toilet to open door. The only available space in the roomwas taken up with decorative items like an old high chair and an oldtreadle sewing machine base and a mirror that was so foggy youcouldn't use it. There was no breakfast, only coffee. Airconditioner worked but very noisy.

Review 18:The room was clean, the bed comfortable. The water was hot.

Review 19:Most reviewers mention the lack of good breakfast and I have to agree. However, the owner does recognize this and offers a 15% discount off breakfast next door.

Review 20:Great place and great location.

Review 21:The breakfast wasn't much...bagels and cold cereal with milk basically. I wish there had been a bigger variety.

Review 22:The location was great! The owners were also very nice and helpful. The furnishings were very quaint (lots of antiques!). It is a little like staying at your grandparents' house.

Review 23:The style of the place is like a B&B...which I loved! It would have been amazing if they could have done breakfast...the current breakfast was oatmeal (in the microwave), cearal, and bagels...allet simple carbs...nothing healthy. They also had OJ and Coffee.

Review 24:Quaint place, loved the location!

Review 25:We enjoyed this pleasant, immaculate, comfortable, unfussy, continental European bed and breakfast inn with all the comforts of home and none of the silly, frilly trappings. Our hosts were very attentive and available without hovering.

Review 26:Wifi was difficult to connect, and the TV was rather small and somewhat 'snowy' on certain channels.

Review 27:Rather eclectic...an 'old hotel' atmosphere but with modern conveniences. Location was perfect for a one night stay in St. Ignace. We had a perfect view of the fireworks over the bay.

Review 28:Only downside - very Carb focused Breakfast. Would prefer some protein and something hot. We ate elsewhere but knew what the food would be like prior to our reservation.

Review 29:People here were so friendly and helpful. Provided great eating locations, where to visit when not going to Mackinac Island.

Review 30:The WiFi was down on Friday and most of Saturday. But they were able to get it working again by Saturday evening.

Review 31:The Inn was charming and comfortable. Our room had a lovely view of the straits.

Review 32:We would have preferred not being on the 3rd floor as there are no elevators and we are seniors.

Review 33:The owner and his wife were very pleasant people and we enjoyed staying at their bed and breakfast.

Review 34:Our mattress was too soft for our liking...but that is a personal preference. I would have appreciated a box of Kleenex. We watch whhat we eat...the breakfast was all carbs. Would we return....absolutely.

Review 35:The hosts were lovely and helpful. Location was excellent. Lovely old building.

Review 36:For a bed and breakfast, you would expect breakfast. Very limited breakfast option. We chose to go to the island for breakfast. The shower in the room took a long time to get warm water.

Review 37:Quiet room, clean room and friendly staff. Very close to the ferryboats to the Island (short walk).

Review 38:More variety of choices, better coffee. Fruit? Yogurts? Needed more to it not just carbs you toast and yucky cereal. Maybe just not do breakfast better than what was offered.

Review 39:Location and rooms were cute and very clean.

Review 40:The breakfast was a little lacking. There wasn't much of a selection to choose from.

Review 41:The staff was very helpful and friendly. Great location to get on a ferry to Mackinac Island. It was a cute little Bed and Breakfast. Would definitely stay there again.

Review 42:Room was on the top floor and started to get really hot once the sun was up and shining directly on it.

Review 43:Nice room with everything you need. I was curious about all the negative comments on the breakfast. Well, there is fresh bagels, coffee/tea, orange juice, cereals and jam. Perfectly enough for me. Really close walk to the ferry if you want to visit Mackinaw Island.

Review 44:The breakfast of cereal was not acceptable! There were no other choices for us.

Review 45:Everything else (not breakfast) was exceptional! We really enjoyed our stay!

Review 46:Breakfast just didn't live up to the description provided in the ad/article we read.

Review 47:Very clean, quiet, excellent location. Staff were pleasant. A nice stay overall.

Review 48:The room smelled musty. And the owners had used drano to clear a plugged tub shortly before we arrived and didn't open a window to alleviate the chemical smell.

Review 49:The hotel was within walking distance of stores, restaurants and ferry docks. I also liked how the owners had several antiques on display.

Review 50:Charming small hotel within walking distance of island ferries and several shops and restaurants. The place is old but well maintained. No frills but we were not expecting any.

Review 51:I absolutely loved the view out our window!!!! We had the only room with a view of the water !!! Bed was comfy and bathroom was clean!! Only thing I would have changed was breakfast.... I was kinda hoping for eggs & toast.... Not bagels and cereal but I'll definitely be going back ! And the farry was right across the street:)

Review 52:Can't say there is anything we didn't like. One note is that if your on the third floor and have issues with stairs then request a lower room. We had no issue with the stairs but others might

Review 53:Location room and the atomosphere where wonderful

Review 54:I think more breakfast food would be nice. Maybe eggs and bacon or sausage. Something hot.

Review 55:It's such a lovely place and the bed was extremely comfortable.

Review 56:Breakfast was so bad and TV provided in the room is so small.

Review 57:View nearby the hotel is good and the ferry facility is available so close to the hotel.

Review 58:It was a bit noisy being on the front of the building. The view was great.

Review 59:It was a very cozy hotel. The staff were excellent. It was just like being at someone's old house.

Review 60:Not sure there was anything we didn't like. Maybe that the breakfast was the same each morning. It would have been nice to change it up a bit.

Review 61:Perfect location, helpful staff, quiet and restful, pleasant and well done decor for the setting. We would definitely stop again.

Review 62:everything was great

Review 63:Center of town and walking distance to one ferry and shuttle for others to Mackinac Island. Key to room as well as side door if coming in late. Bagels, English Muffins, Cereal, and coffee/tea for simple breakfast.

Review 64:key was a little hard to get working

Review 65:clean, quiet, stylish, close to ferries and main roads, roomy - breakfast was ample - checkin and out was easy, and parking was ample

Review 66:Our room was on the 3rd floor but facing the street, you could hear the traffic and was a little difficult to sleep though at times. I would recommend a room towards the back of the hotel if possible.

Review 67:We had a small room and were able to upgrade to a more spacious room which was wonderful. The hotel rooms were very clean and the staff was willing to go the extra mile to make us happy, super friendly... an all around pleasant visit, I would stay there again! Thank you!!!

Review 68:Very disappointing 'breakfast'. Actually, 'breakfast' was non existent. 2 cold cereals, fat free milk only and option to make English muffin in semi working toaster.

Review 69:The facility and staff were great. Clean and comfortable.

Review 70:No elevator, but that wasn't to big of a deal for us.

Review 71:I liked that the Inn was built for guest lodging. It had a historical feel, yet was clean and comfortable. The staff was courteous and friendly. The cost was very reasonable, and the Inn was located just a couple of blocks from the ferry dock.

Review 72:The breakfast didn't consist of much.

Review 73:We liked the price and the location was convenient for touring St. Ignace. They also had private parking for guests.

Review 74:my son would have liked a larger TV (it's pretty small) to watch the very good selection of cable stations on. It's minor but everything else was fine.

Review 75:Out of the way of the throng, but easy to get to the action very nice, homey decor incredibly friendly staff/owners nice clean room, with comfortable beds easy access to ferry to Mackinac, and to shopping in St. Ignace Wifi was good, worked well for e-mail and getting directions.

Review 76:The air conditioner was a little noisy

Review 77:Great location, on main street, just few passes from ferry to Mackinac Island and restaurants. The Inn is meticulously restored, great looking (if you like old style). If you have ever seen an old famous British comedy series "Fawlty Towers" with John Cleese, the Boardwalk Inn has similar style to the hotel in the series - really nice distinguishly old fashioned. We really liked our stay, continental breakfast was good enough for us, owners were really nice and helpful. Oh, there's a beautiful 1967 Harley Davidson dirtbike parked in the lobby - or never used, or restored to "like new" condition!

Review 78:Street noises. Don't pay for the "bay view". There's not much of a view, and the street noises go on past 12:00a.m. St. Ignace is a sad, little rundown town with not much to recommend it except it's the jumping off point for the Mackinac Island ferries. Sadly, don't think Mackinac City is much nicer.

Review 79:Location good. Close to ferries to Mackinac.

Review 80:We missed fresh fruit as part of the continental breakfast.

Review 81:We enjoyed the ambiance and character of this old hotel! The owners were welcoming and helpful. The hotel's central location within St. Ignace made it easy to find. During summer months, visitors need only to cross the street to view the spectacular Saturday night fireworks! We enjoyed meeting other guests in the second floor breakfast room.

Review 82:Our stay was very relaxing, Jim & Kayla were wonderful host. The restoration of the old hotel was is so cozy. We really enjoy our stay, we will be back to the area and plan to stay at The Boardwalk Inn. Thank you Jim & Kayla!

Review 83:Breakfast was terrible, worse than Super 8. The room was shabby and was not the lovely historic bed and breakfast we had hoped for. No coffee making facilities, no hair dryer and no bed side lamp. Would not return.

Review 84:Location

Review 85:Wonderful, quaint and quiet and a great place to return to at the end of the day.

Review 86:Great owners and a great location.

Review 87:clean motel friendly owners

Review 88:No heat

Review 89:Water pressure

Review 90:The entire ambiance of the hotel was great. We really loved stepping back in time there. Kayla, our hostess was awesome.

Review 91:Owners were really great people, place was very clean and very cool, old time feel!

Review 92:WiFi was weak/slow, no tissues.

Review 93:Breakfast could have been a bit more robust for the room rate we paid. The WiFi was weak on the third floor at best.

Review 94:We had no complaints.

Review 95:It was just what we looking for -- clean, comfortable, convenient and a good value. The owners were very pleasant.

Review 96:Wasn't in the room much, but TV was outdated.

Review 97:Amazing value for the price, Jim and Kayla were great and made us feel at home.

Review 98:Should not be listed as B&B. They only provide continental breakfast. WiFi does not work.

Review 99:Great Location

Review 100:Everything! It was so quaint, & the couple who run it were incredible!

Review 101:Bedding not good. Decor badly needs update. Lighting not great.

Review 102:Nice owners/innkeepers and location

Review 103:Could offer hot chocolate packets, fruit or yogurt, something a little more for breakfast, otherwise great stay.

Review 109:Beautiful old hotel with a lot of history.

Review 110:Clean, bright, airy and comfortable. Beautifully decorated with the building's original style. The owners were wonderful.

Review 111:Clean, well maintained. No frills but perfect for what we wanted.

Review 112:Convenient to ferry boats to Mackinac Island and it is right in the middle of the quaint town of St Ignace. Clean.

Review 113:The staff was so incredibly kin

Review 114:A little dated, no elevator, poor breakfast

Review 115:Friendly, inexpensive, good location, comfortable

Review 116:breakfast

Review 117:location and service

Review 118:The breakfast was mediocre. Would have been nice to have a few more options.

Review 119:Quaint, clean, friendly.

Review 120:Lack of an elevator.

Review 121:Comfortable room and location to ferry.

Review 122:I wish there had been little more to breakfast, like fruit.

Review 123:The rooms were very cute. The owners were very nice and helpful, very friendly, etc.

Review 124:Nothing

Review 125:Comfort of the beds and the quiet.
