Reviews for Daan's Place

Review 1:Friendly and informative host. Fast internet! Quality beds and linen, comfortable rooms with a proper kitchen. There is really nothing I didn't like about staying there and I recommend it as a fantastic guest house in Graskop. One of the top guest houses I have ever stayed in at a really fair price.

Review 2:the place is right next to the taxi rank so you have loud music till 11 pm every night. The owner allows children from the neighbourhood on the premises so it sound like a play school all day. not acceptable when you are on holiday. the children are in your face the minute you arrive till when you leave. if they want to run a cresh then do so but not at a b&B

Review 3:the place was clean and the cleaning staff were good.

Review 4:The room was modern, clean, and very functional. The WiFi works perfectly. I loved the WD TV set up that had the latest movies and series that could be viewed. Ian is an absolute pleasure as a person, and was exceptionally helpful 24/7. He also went out of his way to help me when I stupidly locked my keys in my car in the forest. It's a great place - my kind of place - and I'll definitely support it again and again in future.

Review 5:Really enjoyed our stay at Daan's Place, the rooms are cleaned daily, fantastic movie collection and is very central to all the places to see. The weather in Graskop was great, cool, nice break from the heat in the Kruger Park

Review 6:Great location, close to all the sights. Daan was very helpful and gave us a map of the places to see.The rooms are cleaned every day.We will definitely stay there again

Review 7:We had a nice room with all facilities needed. The owner Daan is very kind. He had a lot off good tips for us and is very helpfull. The city is nice and restaurants are nearby. Great place to stay if you want to see God's Windows, Pinnacle, Blyde River Canyon, Waterfalls, Krugerpark.

Review 8:Nothing really negative the facilities accommodate budget and those wishing for something a little more up-scale.

Review 9:Daans place has both types of accommodation budget and something more up-scale, we had the opportunity to sample both, Our budget room was huge easily accommodates a family of 4. The other room was smaller but with more up-date furnishings. would we stay there again "absolutely" . Glaskop is a good central location for visiting attractions approx. 1hr from Kruger N/Park (Phabeni gate). Short drive from Gods Window, Bourkes potholes, Berlin falls and Lisbon falls. Most other places of interest are 60 or 70 km (36 or 42 miles) away own transportation is preferred.

Review 10:nothing

Review 11:Very very nice place to stay when visiting Blyde Canyon, Pilgrim and other beautifull places I recommand this place and staff very nice and aware

Review 12:Nothing.

Review 13:The owner gave us some really nice tips concerning the panorama road that helped us planned our trip. The owner also gave us an upgrade room because it was available. In our room there were a lot of free movies and series available to watch. This accommodation is a great spot to stay for the night if you want to travel along the panorama road.

Review 14:Clean room, perfect shower and loved the movie collection.Ian was very helpfull, he moved a booking in the Kruger Park to another camp so we did not have to drive so far - thanks Ian

Review 15:Nothing. From facilities to your help: we enjoyed everything

Review 16:What a great place to stay! From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome and comfortable. Ian, the owner, is a very nice guy who helps you with great tips and tricks for the highlights in the area like the Panoramic route and Krugerpark. When I was already gone I realized I left my iPad to Sd-card cable over there. He even sent it to my next accommodation. That's what I call good service. Thanks again!

Review 17:We found no negatives with this property.

Review 18:The extremely helpful and friendly nature of the owner who took time to advise us on all the activities in the area and indicate the locations via Google Earth. Wonderful cooked breakfast for £1.50, comfortable rooms and located close to the centre of Graskop, a 5 minute walk from supermarket and restaurants.

Review 19:Could not get wi fi in the room but only in common area.

Review 20:Comfortable beds, luxurious linens, good location not far from town, close to Police Station for safety. owner very friendly and informative.

Review 21:Breakfest is served in a really hot area and it is a little bit expensive compared to the other hotels we stayed.

Review 22:Close to the restaurants. Good room in a good price.

Review 23:The owner was very friendly helpful. While the tiny hotel is basic, it is comfortable & has everything you need. Graskop is a small and colourful town with busy tourist traffic and feels very safe at least during the day.

Review 24:The kitchen was not very well equipped, but all our requests got satisfied from the owner. From our perspective the owner was subliminally racist when he communicated with us as we are a mixed race couple. But we try to not let this affect us too much as SA is a country with a huge legacy on racism.

Review 25:The place was very clean and our dishes got washed every day. We got very good recommendations for things to do in the area. The place is quite and we felt safe.

Review 26:Impossible to take a shower, it was just a bath without shower head (or other kind of system)

Review 27:Nice room with kitchenet. Equipment correct. The staff gave us good advice about the area.

Review 28:It was a bit cold at night, but there were enough blankets.

Review 29:It was a very nice stay in a well equiped accommodation. The owner was very friendly and gave us a lot of information. The room was very big so that we had enough space to reorganize our hole lugage ;-) The wifi worked well.

Review 30:Convenient facilities, spacious room, incredibly comfortable bed, and the owners are very helpful and friendly - they gave us great information to ensure we saw the best sights in the area. The servers at breakfast were shy and reserved, and not as sociable as I'm used to - but the food was tremendous!

Review 31:It is not possible to walk around the place and especially to the restaurants at night because the area does not look really safe to walk around, even with the police station next door.

Review 32:The owner is very helpful and will give you many advice if you want to drive around the area and see the various point of interest of the canyon. The bedrooms are confortable and especially the duvet! It is really close to all the Blyde River Canyon attractions.

Review 33:The rooms have view and entrance on the main patio and parking which means it can be a little noisy during evening and night. Wifi connection is slow.

Review 34:Room was confortable and newly renovated. We appreciate the warm welcome and advices from the owner.

Review 35:Only a few nice restaurants. Close to a township, so a bit noisy sometimes. We travelled by car instead of walking, because of the safety. But still; Graskop is close to all the places to visit!

Review 36:Good value for money. Nice owner. Nice cappuccino. Graskop is a perfect location to explore the panorama route.

Review 37:There are only tables for eating outside, so in wintertimes when its cold...

Review 38:Verry friendly people who will help you with everything Nice room and verry clean Private parking A lot of free movies/music/media in the room We booked for 1 night and spend 2 because it was great

Review 39:Curtains/blinds are hopeless, lots of light in at night. A little noisy from neighbouring properties.

Review 40:Really friendly and helpful staff. They said wifi only internet at reception, but picked up good signal from room.

Review 41:Did miss out on news etc due to no tv channels available

Review 42:We enjoy the short stay. The place was reasonable nice and quite ,clean , pleased about the safe and undercover parking plenty of hot water, house keeping very good

Review 43:Owner really helpful and friendly. Place looked fantastic... big room, comfortable bed with everything we needed....too bad we got there so late and had to leave so early.

Review 44:Nice rooms and a good place for a nice price, for a visit to Graskop. We reveived a lot of good tips for dining. Free Wifi and a tv with lots of movies. Daan is a cool guy who really wants to show you the best Graskop has to offer.

Review 45:The road off Main street needs a bit of TLC, I am sure the Local Council can be of assistance as part of ensuring Graskop to be a holiday destination.

Review 46:We arrived from Boksburg tired and dirty, but the friendly face of the owner and his welcome soon lifted our spirits. We had to attend a funeral in Nelspruit the following day, and he went out of his way to make as feel comfortable and "looked after"

Review 47:We arrived at dusk - not a very good time for travelling and it rained cats and dogs. We do not travel with GPS as it's not very trustworthy! To find Daan's place was very difficult to say the least. Perhaps when returning the Booking Letter a short description with a few of the town's landmarks can be added? Left/ right thing.

Review 48:The owner has a short and sweet approach - yet friendly and supportive. Good advice was given regarding the surrounding tourist attractions - he could not be held responsible for awful state of the town's streets! Local business people shoud pull up their socks and do something about this very dangerous situation in just about every street!

Review 49:The [short] dirt road getting there but this is only because the car I drive is not made for dirt. That said the road is good.

Review 50:Friendly owner, well equiped, clean. Even had lamps for the inevitable load shedding.

Review 51:Daan's place is not large but well thought and very well maintained. The night was quiet, the bed comfortable, the garden pleasant. Staying for only one night we didn't have time to enjoy the common room with PS3 and hearth or the swimming pool but they really seemed attractive. Most of all, we had a great contact with the owner who cared a lot for whatever we could need and gave us great advices for our trip.

Review 52:There was no hanging space for clothes in my room

Review 53:The rooms are warm and inviting Feel secure parking our car overnight Staff Friendly Well kept property

Review 54:There are no baby cot so four of us have to sleep in 2 single beds. The breakfast is not free. Room and bathroom is small.

Review 55:The location is good. Staff is nice. There is wifi.

Review 56:The hotel itself is safe an secure - but the surrounding area is less so. Not safe to walk around at night - though that is a common problem in South Africa.

Review 57:Ian - the owner - was very helpful and accommodating. Excellent value for money. Good location for exploring the panorama route. Good restaurants in town. .

Review 58:Great place to stay, very close to Blyde Canyon and within an hour's drive of Kruger park. Daan is very knowledgeable about the area and had some great recommendations as to where to stay/what to do inside Kruger. Graskop itself isn't particularly recommendable but Daan's place is very safe and secure, eith electric fences all around. Best part of the studio apartments was the huge database of movies available on TV!

Review 59:Daan's Place is a perfect stay for access to the Panoramic Route and Kruger Park. Clean, spacious enough and tranquil. Ian, our host, is full of info and places to see off the beat and track.

Review 60:All good.

Review 61:Perfect self catering room that was comfortable and clean. Convenient location for exploring the Panoramic Route and the owner Ian will give lots of great advice for everything to do in the area. Also the best tv and movie selections if you have any extra time for that which we didn't.

Review 62:Management truly cared and tried to make our stay first class; it succeeded easily. It has all the facilities necessary to make for a very comfortable stay.

Review 63:Everything! From the staff to Ian, the very knowledgeable and helpful owner. Great room that catered for all our needs was clean and very comfortable. Wifi good and free. Room media centre had so much to choose from. Town is within walking distance and the start of the sights within 5min drive. We'll definitely book with Daan's Place again.

Review 64:We stayed for a night and found Daan's Place quite suitable to our needs. Room is well decorated, clean and tidy. Very very comfortable and the best beds I've slept in to date. Breakfast was scrumptious and the coffee was delicious! Wifi is free and the entertainment in the room was superb. Thanks guys!

Review 65:Great setting and location to visit the Lowveld. The room was comfortable and very clean with a large flat screen TV and loads to choose from. Tea and coffee is provided in the room which has a kitchenette for self catering. Internet and wifi fast also free. Our host and the staff are offer great service and go out of their way to assist. Loved our stay

Review 66:Central to all the sights, namely the Panoramic Route and Kruger National Park. Room and bathroom is clean and suited our needs. Good value for money and the owner Ian and his staff are very warm, helpful and welcoming. Thanks for a great stay! I'll be recommending your accommodation.

Review 67:Graskop itself is a town we won't be rushing back to but despite this we were happy with our stay at Daan's.

Review 68:Large rooms with well faciliated kitchen area - we only stayed one night but if it had been longer this would have been really helpful. Very extensive video-media selection available for viewing on TV. The Manager was interested in our plans and offered us good advice.

Review 69:Saturday night party noises and the sound of racing engines heard from the streets at night, but this would have been the same anywhere in town, I guess.

Review 70:Perfect location to do the Panorama Route and on the way to Kruger Park. Friendly, helpful people, providing useful information to plan our stay. Abundant and tasty optional breakfast. And, above all, safe and secure (just opposite the police station)!

Review 71:Not enough natural light into the room. As the room we stayed in does not have much windows. (I am really trying to be picky in here)

Review 72:Friendly owner who gives really good recommendation on the what to do and where to eat around the place. There are PLENTY of movies to choose from. Great for a chilled night in. Kitchen facility in the room also small is very sufficient

Review 73:Daan's Place was a perfect stop-over on the way to KNP and the Panorama Route. The facilities were clean and comfortable, and the movie selection was fantastic, especially on a rainy night. Our hosts offered wonderful advice about the surrounding area too. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Review 74:The staff here were really friendly and the room was perfect for what we needed; clean, comfy bed, wifi and entertainment centre...just perfect after 3 days in the Kruger!

Review 75:Nothing I didn't like.

Review 76:Great location, just around the corner from Harries Pancakes and a very short drive to God's window. Beds were comfortable. Only met one member of staff as we only the for the night but he was very friendly and helpful. Marco (I hope I remember the name right).

Review 77:(1) The pool is so small that it is probably OK for smallish children, but not for adults, unless one were to consider it merely as an alternative to cold shower on a summer's day. (2) Poor Mark gets so many things stollen from his kitchens by unscrupulous guests that the kitchens in the rooms are very poorly stocked at the outset. Probably he should make if clearer when people first arrive that he can very readily supply more cooking spoons, pots, pans, etc. upon request.

Review 78:The room was very comfortable, as was the bed; Mark, the manager/owner was very attentive and helpful with suggestions about where to go, how best to enter Kruger N.P. from Graskop, where to eat, etc; the two computers for our use were excellent; Graskop is a real town, of very manageable size, and we liked feeling that we were in a place not especially 'touristic'. Graskop makes a surprisingly good gateway to the Kruger Park, by the way. It takes only 45 minutes to get to the Phenabi Gate, and once in the park, who knows what you'll see! We saw giraffes and zebras within five minutes of driving in from this way. It is ever so much more appealing a gateway than the Paul Kruger Gate, which you reach by driving for miles down a soulless avenue lined with fences. Thanks Mark for all your insights!

Review 79:Not so bad but the fact that Daan's place is next to the Taxi Rank. But once you are inside the premisses you feel very safe.

Review 80:All I can say is that the first impression of Daan's place was excellent!!!!!!! The rooms are great and very clean. We got more for what we paid for. Movie channel was very welcome. WiFi even more so. Service was great and we were given good advise on where to go as it was our first time doing the Panorama Route. Thank you for your warm welcome. We will be visiting again.

Review 81:Swimming pool was out of order, WIFI was weak

Review 82:The media device with a lot of movies and series on was awesome, much better than DSTV. Nice air conditioner.

Review 83:The fridge made a lot of noise. We told the owner and he is going to take action.

Review 84:Owner and personal are extremely helpful. Great facilities for the price. We got a free upgrade what made our day (night ☺).

Review 85:Everything! The room was large enough for us. The bathroom spotless and sufficient. Loved the peaceful setting and free wifi. Breakfast was delicious and free coffee and muffins are available in the mornings. Great value for the price. Thanks guys, I'll be recommending Daan's Place to all my friends.

Review 86:Everything from the staff to the location. So close to the Panoramic Route. Secure parking and a relaxing atmosphere. Thanks for the upgrade, loved the room! The price is more than worth what's offered. Beds comfy, with electric blankets for the cool nights. Bathrooms spotless and kitchen fully functional and upto date. Loved all the movies available and free wifi. Thanks guys, you made our trip memorable.

Review 87:Peaceful & quite. The room and bathroom was clean and modern. Beds so comfortable and the property is very secure. Our hosts were very informative and went out of their way to assist us, the staff helpful. Great ambiance and setting. Wifi is available and free. The price for this accommodation suited our pockets. Thanks Ian & Mark we had a wonderful stay, Hope to see you again soon.

Review 88:Excellent central location to visit the Drakensberg, plenty of information provided by owners, friendly staff. very good beds to recover from the Kruger Park.

Review 89:Graskop is a bit of a scary place (little light on the roads), owner recommended to drive to restaurant for dinner (instead of walking to the restaurant) However, daan's place has electric fences and located right next to a police station.

Review 90:Friendly owner - gave good tips on where to go for dinner / doing groceries / things to see and do in the area. He gave us a free room upgrade. Parking is safe and u get ur own remote. Bed is comfortable and tv offers plenty of movies / series to watch & regular tv. Room is nice and cool.

Review 91:Daan's our place was our last stop on a recent trip to south Africa. For the room price it was excellent value, and although breakfast was extra, it to was relatively cheap. We were within walking distance of restuarants and the town centre. Ian and Mark were great hosts. They looked after us well and Ian helped us to check in our flights home. We would definately stay there again

Review 92:We had a great stay at Daan's Place. Our host was very nice and upgraded us to a larger room since there had been a last minute cancellation. He also recommended a very nice portuguese restaurant down the street which was unexpectedly good for a touristy area like the Blyde River Canyon. There were also a wide variety of films available to watch which was fantastic since it was a rainy night and watching a film was all we needed after long day's drive. We highly recommend Daan's Place!

Review 93:The 'unscheduled' working with noisy machinery whilst we were there. We wanted to use some days for rest without having to go anywhere, but this didn't happen because of noise.

Review 94:Place in a prime position for all excursions.

Review 95:WiFi could be more stable & the bathroom was a bit oldfashioned.

Review 96:We had a warm welcome and the crew was very happy to help us with questions about the neighbourhood. The room was clean and the beds offered a good night rest.

Review 97:Loved our stay. Staff super friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for access to the Panoramic Route and Kruger Park. Room was clean and spacious. Bathroom was comfortable and lots of hot water on tap. Loved the laid back atmosphere and tranquility of the surroundings. Good breakfast variety and found it tasty. The coffee is the best available in Graskop!

Review 98:The only thing is where it is situated, as it's near a very small black taxi rank but Ian did apologize to us about it, saying that he was working with the city council to relocate the taxi rank elsewhere, otherwise their accommodation is value for money!

Review 99:Hi there, Ian and Mark the two brothers that run Daan's Place were very helpful and warm. They attended to our needs quickly and were accommodating.

Review 100:This stay something was knocking against the roof all night and kept us awake...probably temporary issue. No problems previous visit.

Review 101:Comfy bed, nice and clean.

Review 102:Slightly in the wrong end of town, needed to drive to the restaurants (the manager recommended the Portuguese which was great fun and very good food)

Review 103:The manager couldn't have been more helpful, he happily shared his knowledge and told us a much better route to the Kruger Park than we were proposing to take. The rooms were very comfortable, the property immaculately clean, bar area good and breakfast excellent

Review 104:We do not have any complain.

Review 105:The guesthouse is located just behind the main street of Graskop. Rooms are quite big and equipped with a kitchen. We went there in winter, so we also had an electric heater and the warming pan! The owner is very kind and he gave us lot of tourist information about possible activities to do around Graskop. We definitely recommend it!

Review 106:Actually the room was a bit small but we could easily deal with it. There are some spot in the complex where wifi signal is not good.

Review 107:The room was gracefully furnished and the position is great. Look for the sign at the entrance of the city to find the place really quickly. Daan is amazing, helpful and can suggest a lot of tips to visit Blyde Canyon.

Review 108:Ian was most helpful in making recommendations for sites to see in the area. The accomodation was clean, plenty of space and very convenient. As we needed internet - it worked perfectly! Thank you.

Review 109:TV set up frustrating. Basic kitchen items like egg lifter and bread knife missing.

Review 110:Overall - pleasant stay.

Review 111:Ian recommended that we visit the Kruger Park even though we had not planned to and we are so pleased he did, we saw the Big 5 in 1 day, Thanks Ian

Review 112:Very friendly staff and comfortable bed – great value for money! It was a pleasure staying here.

Review 113:Value for Money

Review 114:wonderful stay, very helpful owners and staff.

Review 115:Very friendly welcome and good advice on the sights as well as the Kruger National Park

Review 116:No intertainment for grown ups, eg. Pool table, large swimming pool,

Review 117:In Room Entertainmen, broadband internet, fully furnished kitchen
