Reviews for Magnolia Hotel St. Louis

Review 1:The only thing the room lacked was a little fridge. You're able to make tea and coffee, but no milk, not even a dry creamer, so had to hot foot it down 12 floors, get milk from the bar then back up to the room. And the funny thing is that under the tea and coffee area in the room, you could almost fit 2 little fridges :( not a deal breaker but it was not in keeping with the rest of the quality of the hotel. A little fridge would make it 10's across the board.

Review 2:Location was EXCELLENT for the America's centre, the bar man was SUPER helpful, the reception staff were very friendly and did not walk in superiority. The room was in like 2 sections which would come in handy if one person wanted to sleep and the other do some work.

Review 3:The staff both hotel and bar were very nice and always helpful. The hotel itself was beautiful and the rooms very comfortable to stay in. Scale of 1-10 I give it an 11

Review 4:The walls in our hotel room were dirty (things were splattered all over them), and there was mold around the edges of our bath tub.

Review 5:The staff were all really nice, and the room was comfortable though small.

Review 6:The rooms were incredibly small, no bathtub, the staff was unpleasant on multiple occasions (and I'm pretty easy to get on with). Just to give an example, when checking out at 5:30am for an early flight I mentioned that I knew breakfast didn't start until 6am but was it possible for me to grab a banana or literally anything. I got a simple "No." with no explanation. This is the first time I have ever had a request like this refused. The entry had a weird buzzer door for security even though none of the other hotels nearby had such a thing. Small rooms with just a shower stall. It felt like a sleezy hourly hotel but at 4 star rates. Disappointed.

Review 7:Free wifi.

Review 8:We felt the breakfast was insufficient for the money. There was only one hot item, oatmeal, and the tables were too small to use.

Review 9:The room was very comfortable and clean. The bar staff were very busy with a wedding party and we felt ignored at first. Then I spoke up and the 2 ladies more then made up for the first impression.

Review 10:Breakfast could use a little improvement with offering eggs and waffles or other hot food.

Review 11:Staff very friendly and quick when asking for towels and soap.

Review 12:It would of been nice to have a small bar fridge inside of the room to keep water and other things cold.

Review 13:The decor was beautiful and our King Deluxe room was very spacious. Overall great place to stay.

Review 14:I had no working lock on my door. The inside lock had been ripped off of the doorway and the deadbolt lock did not work either. I had to call for washcloths, shampoo, soap and coffee creamer on all separate occasions. It seemed that the housekeeper only made the beds and did not replenish used supplies or clean the coffeemaker. Our room was never cleaned and straightened until our last night in the hotel. Breakfast was the same every day. We were told one night that they were out of cookies for the nightly milk and cookies as advertised. The Tesla was never available when we needed it and we were told that they had no driver. They do not have laundry service on weekends.

Review 15:Good location, lobby and bar are very attractive. Room set up is very nice and spacious.

Review 16:Small elevators, long check in line

Review 17:Charm, the room layout, free wifi, breakfast included, close proximity to stadiums and casino. It was perfect for us.

Review 18:The breakfast options were very slim to none as far as the continental part went. If you wanted the good breakfast food, you had to pay $11.

Review 19:The location of the hotel was perfect for walking to Ballpark Village and Busch Stadium. It was also very clean and the room was very nice. Loved the bed! The bar was really neat as well during the evening.

Review 20:Couldn't get wi fi to work. Room 712 is very cramped. Breakfast is good, but really like hot items. Valet' s were not friendly.

Review 21:Location is perfect for Busch Stadium. Quick service from valets. Very clean-front desk was very helpful and courteous.

Review 22:The bed was a little too firm and the elevators are a little small, but I would most definitely stay there again.

Review 23:I loved the room, location, history, staff....

Review 24:Downtown St. Louis location was perfect for attending a Cardinals game. Even closer to the dome for Rams games. Hotel was clean and modern, very comfortable.

Review 25:Expected more variety in the breakfast. The valet parking was outrageously expensive. I checked in on a Thu evening and checked out on Sat morning and it cost me $70.

Review 26:I guess I expected bathroom amenities to be at least a little more upscale, to match the decor and the standard price for rooms. They were similar to a Comfort Inn. Meanwhile, the breakfasts at Sleep Inns, Comfort Inns, etc, provide eggs, and much much wider variety of food items. There wasn't a protein to be found, except yogurt, not even nuts for oatmeal. Sweet rolls, oatmeal, and fruit. So it was nice, but not quite what I expected considering the grand entrance and price.

Review 27:Beautiful interior, great staff. Front desk provided detailed recommendations for dinner, thinking about our preferences. Valet remembered we were returning late. The room was wonderful, a suite with two tv's and an l-shaped couch (though we didn't need it for this particular trip, still felt like a (very) small apartment!)

Review 28:Breakfast was a little disappointing. The Magnolia in Houston I stayed in for Astros game had a unbelievable breakfast with all the works!

Review 29:Guest happy hour rocked! Rod and Chris were awesome behind the bar! Cookies and milk was a nice touch as well..

Review 30:shower (poor water pressure 10th floor), toilet, elevators very slow and small (waited 15 min for elevator when trying to get checked out), breakfast, too expensive for what you get

Review 31:nice spacious room, clean, great staff, happy hour, milk and cookies for kids

Review 32:The seating while trying to eat. Tables and chairs were not convenient for plates and drinks with a family was sitting at the tables.

Review 33:The location was perfect and very courteous staff!

Review 34:They didn't have a parking lot or parking structure, you have to pay to park or use valet service.

Review 35:The rooms are large and very clean. The staff was very nice. Also the hotel is right downtown, making it easy to get around.

Review 36:I didn't like that there was no refrigerator or microwave in the room. I would expect this given how expensive the room was. Also, the bar closed too early and the breakfast selection was not good.

Review 37:I liked the decor and the bed (which was extremely comfortable). The bathroom was also relatively large which was nice.

Review 38:Over priced parking, no vending machines in hotel... $2 for a candy bar or can soda,,, complimentary breakfast options were very few and a joke

Review 39:I liked the location ....close to Busch stadium.

Review 40:Breakfast was good but only a cold continental version.

Review 41:My wife and I were on our four year anniversary and the staff at the front desk were so wonderful. They furnished us with a bottle of champagne delivered to our room. They spent their time suggesting places to eat and sights to see. They even furnished us maps personally marked to make everything easy to find.

Review 42:happy hour was out of beer- needed a substitute.

Review 43:Loved the bed and pillows! Would stay here again just for that! Loved the happy hour too and the hotel bar was fun

Review 44:Pillow case had another woman's makeup on it when we arrived. Ourview was a huge brick building instead of the arch. No pool. This ismore of a place for business people and not a family friendly place. They want to charge $5 for a small bottle of water, but couldn'teven put a tiny fridge in the room. As expensive as it was to stayplus park... I would have appreciated not having to throw food andbeverages away.

Review 45:The bed was very comfortable

Review 46:We were visiting friends in Granite City and wanted to stay someplace nearby. We have two toddlers and wanted a suite with two separate rooms. I originally booked a King Suite, but then upgraded (through booking.com) to a Deluxe King Suite. The room was one of the nicest rooms I've ever stayed in! The babies slept in the big living room and we slept in the bedroom, which were adjoined by the bathroom. The one snag we encountered, involving a very loud tv left on in the adjacent room, was solved quickly by the management. Breakfast was pretty good -- great coffee. Definitely recommend staying here!

Review 47:Bar staff didn't really have a clue what they were doing. Had to ask for glasses fro our champagne - were given wine glasses. Then we had to open the bottle ourselves.

Review 48:Lovely rooms - helpful front desk

Review 49:I called 2 weeks prior to our arrival to let them know we were celebrating our 1st anniversary & i would like to do something special. I was given add on options & picked 1. When we arrived the room was as normal. When we returned from the cardinal game late that evening there were rose petals around the room. It was nice, but since I was paying for this add on I would have love to have it ready upon arrival.

Review 50:We were celebrating our 1st anniversary. From the moment we arrived the staff were very friendly. The valet guys were nice & talkative with my husband which he loves. I loved the modern chic decor, but the historic character drew me in all the way. The room was cute & cozy. Close to downtown atractions, Cardinal Statium & dining. But our favorite was the free breakfast, complimentary beer, wine, cookies & milk.

Review 51:No refrigerator in room. Was told by front desk that I could request a roller bed before booking, but said I couldnt at checkin. Lot of street noise.

Review 52:Nice location. Friendly staff.clean

Review 53:Upon arrival, there were no towels in the room. A quick phone call solved this. Next day, although the room was made up, there was no replenishment of consumables...coffee, plastic cups etc. Also, this room (1001) must share a wall with the floor's water pump or such. At times, was very loud. Recommend some additional soundproofing if you desire to keep 1001 as a revenue producing room.

Review 54:Desk and Bar Staff were very polite and helpful.

Review 55:The hotel was almost empty but we were given a room with a view of the light well and a large aircon unit (which provided a constant aural backdrop to our stay); the heavy round coffee table that was a trip hazard in the middle of the night; the shower recess was a bit mouldy/dirty high up.

Review 56:The evening wine reception, the complimentary a la carte breakfast one morning (due to low occupancy), the lounge area.

Review 57:The toilet leaked. They sent someone to fix it. Not enough toilet paper. We couldn't get in the hotel lobby at 4:30 am because we left our key in the room. The police officer was very rude but finally the concierge came back to his post and he recognized us or I am not sure what we would have done. There should be some kind of questions he could ask, in conjunction with the front desk that would prove we were who we said we were. We had to wait for our room but the manager was on it.

Review 58:The hotel manager knows what customer service means. There were a few bumps in the road but he went over the top to contact me and make all things right. I didn't have to find him, he found me.

Review 59:No bad experience, really. There was a little confusion over the maid service (corrected).

Review 60:The staff was wonderful. Colleagues at my conference were jealous when I told them about the room, the cookies and milk in the evening, the cost, the beautiful building, etc.

Review 61:The food at the restaurant / bar was just okay, there was no documentation in the room for what the hotel offered, no map, no phone numbers etc

Review 62:The staff was very nice

Review 63:Tables in restaurant too small to hold dinner plates..need larger tables

Review 64:Location and historic decor and riding Tessla for free, very helpful efficient staff

Review 65:When showers were turned on they made a loud screeching sound that awakened me and left me wondering what the sound was. Unfortunately there were loud and inconsiderate guests who awakened me on different nights with their loud voices, laughing, running and slamming doors. I did mention this to the front desk and it did stop after I complained.

Review 66:Great staff. Convenient location with many attractions within easy walking distance (e.g., America Center, Scott Trade Center, Gateway Arch, etc.). Continental breakfast and happy hour.

Review 67:I really can't say there wasn't anything I didnt like. The breakfast that was offered was a lighter breakfast, they had fruit, juice, and oatmeal with fixings. Which I didnt mind. But they made up for their lighter breakfast by having happy hour and milk & cookies!

Review 68:The staff was BEYOND accommodating. They truly made us feel comfortable and welcomed. They were so kind and offered great suggestions for places to visit and eat.

Review 69:The ac control was in the seated area of the suite not the bedroom. Making it very hard to control the temp. The beds were so soft it made my mothers snoring worse

Review 70:Free wine It was pretty

Review 71:Some of the staff didnt understand English well so when I asked about the free breakfast they told me to put the checked menu on the door.. I ended up paying 77 dollars for breakfast. I asked another attendant about the location of my car..she told me not to worry..the valet will take care of it..I just wanted to know it was in a safe spot.

Review 72:The room decor

Review 73:No fridge in the room and only 1 ice machine

Review 74:We caught this property during a Suite Special rate. Great deal and SUPER close to the convention center. Manager's commentary Happy Hour was a nice perk!

Review 75:There is only valet-parking and it is very expensive. However, it is normal price in St.Louis downtown.

Review 76:Staff was excellent. They are very cheerful and helpful. Complimentary wifi, cookies&milk happy hours and breakfast were very good as well. If I go to St. Louis again, I will choose this hotel again.

Review 77:Breakfast needed to be a little more kid friendly!

Review 78:A wonderful experience! Beds were extremely comfortable! Rooms were spacious! Staff was friendly! Location was perfect for us!

Review 79:I didn't have one issue with the hotel.

Review 80:The staff are extremely friendly. The rooms are very clean. Our experience was amazing and we are definitely coming back!

Review 81:i really enjoyed the milk and cookies i thought that was an elegant touch. the bed was the most wonderful bed i have ever slept on and every staff member was so helpful

Review 82:It took a month for the staff to remove an overcharge of an extra day. Their computers didn't reflect payment for our last days stay, and they tried to force my pre-teen son from the room in my absence. No apologies for any of the aforementioned

Review 83:We were very impressed by the facility. It was a beautiful example of chic elegance

Review 84:The shower water temperature was difficult to get and keep in a comfortable zone. It went from cold to hot with very little in between. I was the 3rd person showering. My wife who was first had no problems. My daughter had similar problems.

Review 85:The rooms were set up more like an apartment and less like a hotel room.Glass doors between living room and bedroom allows some to sleep while others stay up.

Review 86:The actual room wasn't very clean. The bathtub was old, and the drain plug kept sticking and at one point the entire screw came off it so that it wouldn't stay open. The walls needed paint, and there were stains on them. Our couch in the living room and carpet both had red stains on them that looked like blood. The cleaning staff only left us one roll of toilet paper on the roll so naturally we ran out and didn't restock coffee or even clean the glasses we used.

Review 87:I liked the decor. The remodel downstairs was elegant and beautiful to walk into. The staff was very friendly and outgoing from the doorman, to the room service and bartender. We called and asked for some hummus and veggies that wasn't on the menu, and they brought it up, free of charge. All in all, a nice place to stay for the price, but maybe just a different room next time?

Review 88:Didn't like there is no hotel parking only valet or parking at nearby hotel garage ($16-$28 per day) Hotel charges a $100 deposit but does not inform you until you have arrived.

Review 89:I liked the location.

Review 90:The parking was horrible. No where to park so you can register. Although valet parking is available for $28.

Review 91:I love the interior and design of the hotel.

Review 92:Needed a good scrubbing; ice bucket still had water in it from previous guest, bathroom was kind of gross

Review 93:Good location Loved the free happy hour Easy parking Beautifully designed and styled

Review 94:The valet staff told me the tesla svc was not operational those days as there was no one currently licensed to carry passengers. So I was pretty disappointed as I am a huge fan. The manager upon check out said that was not true, but no offer of a ride or anything. Not a great ending to a great atay

Review 95:Very modern and clean great accomodations

Review 96:It was not very close to central down town.

Review 97:I liked all of the complementary things they had available such as milk and cookie time. Very nice staff and quiet location! Will definitely stay here again! Parking was cheep also.

Review 98:Noisy and the night manger did seem to care. Three (3) calls to the front desk to ask for peace and quiet and the noise continued until 4:30 am . Would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 99:The beds were excellent

Review 100:Valet only parking. No A/C in room. No refrigerator in room. No vending in hotel. poor customer service / knowledge of area. The toilet paper dispenser fell out of the wall. This Hotel is a mess. We are extremely disappointed. I would never stay here again......

Review 101:The Location was good. We were in town to see the Rams game. It was close to the Stadium and close to food and entertainment.

Review 102:I was very unhappy with certain staff members inability to locate my reservation in their computer system thereby providing incorrect information to my medical equipment provider. I rented an electric scooter which was to be dropped off and made available to me upon my check in date. The front desk staff told the delivery person that I had no reservation . This behaviorcaused the delivery person to call me at home and inform me that I had no reservation and they would have to return my scooter which was paid for in full. This occurred twice once before my arrival in St. Louis via plane and again after I checked in. To matters worse maintenance staff had to come to my room 5 times to address the toilet issues. Lastly, the restaurant in the lobby area is in great need of managerial improvement. The waiters and waitresses were excellent in providing service but the food was very poor. It was cold the meat was very dry and hard the vegetables were bitter more specific kale vegetable was granny. It was clear, it had not been washed thoroughly. The lunch and dinner food were poorly prepared. I would suggest that next year when the conference returns to st. Louis that this hotel hire a chef for the one week to prepare the meals for the conference attendees. There is no doubt in my mind that it will be well worth the cost or there will continue to be a financial loss. I stayed at the Mayfair under the leadership of the previous owners and the restaurant was extremely busy and the food was fabulous. So it is my prayer that the present owners consider my suggestions and I would appreciate if dinner tables and chairs would also be rented for the convention. I for one being handicapped with 6 screws on my spine found it most difficult to sit on a lounge chair with a lounge table to eat lunch and dinner of which I attempted to do and invited guests to dine with me at my expense .

Review 103:I enjoyed the front desk staff eagerness to address my concern with bathroom issues, during my 5 day stay. I rested very well in my handicap king suite due to the cleanliness and spaciousness. I also enjoyed the free breakfast every morning which was fresh plentiful and delicious.

Review 104:My computer was not working and I asked about a hotel workstation. I was told the hotel doesn't offer one. Would be helpful to have one especially for business clientele.

Review 105:Liked the remodel and the room was very comfortable. I assume the direction was to go the upscale "chic" look. Very clean and the cookies were a nice touch especially coming in at night.

Review 106:Room 809 is on the NE corner of the hotel facing the corner of Washington and 8th. One of the only two nights we were there we got really poor sleep due to street noise from guys riding load motorcycles up and down the street. I'm sure it would be quieter away from the street. Bathtub and sink were showing some age and should be replaced considering the room was $234/nt. Comp breakfast was pretty lame...all pastries, cereal, etc. Nothing appropriate for a diabetic diet.

Review 107:Great location if going to the AG Edwards Dome. Walking distance to many downtown tourist spots. Tesla courtesy car to take you within 5 miles of hotel. Lots of pillows on bed. Nice linens and mattress.

Review 108:Crummy view out the windows of our room but we weren't in it much anyway.

Review 109:Friendly helpful staff in all areas. Way better than average breakfast bar with fresh fruit and pastries. Comfortable bed and sitting area in our King Room, not huge but just fine. Comfortable bar to unwind and have a cocktail after a long day's sightseeing. Evening cookies and milk were a nice bonus too. Liked the proximity to Metro station.

Review 110:when we first got into the room we wanted to drink a caffre but we found an empty caffee cartage into the caffee maker machine which is they didnt cleaned it after last usage, the toilet walls kinda has signs or marks or rust which they need to paint them. at the morning an empty used jelly jar was with the unused ones which i picked it then i figured out it was used.

Review 111:THE STAFF WAS So friendly the room and the hotel design was fabulous

Review 112:The Magnolia Hotel was awesome. They picked us up in the Tesla. The bed was a dream. The attention to details like breakfast, cocktail hour, and cookies and milk are great. Thanks for making us feel like VIPs! Matt and Kevin, thank you for giving us rides in the tesla!!

Review 113:Loved the location to Bush Stadium. Several attractions and good restaurants within walking distance. Interstates were easily accessible from hotel location.

Review 114:Other than missing a few toiletries in our room that they quickly fixed, we had no issues.

Review 115:The hotel had a lot of character but with a modern look. Your really within walking distance of most anything in the city. Rooms were very nice and comfortable and the staff was friendly.

Review 116:$28 valet parking, noisy water cooled air conditioning in room.

Review 117:Perfect location, wonderful staff, beautifully remodeled while retaining historical elements.

Review 118:The walls were paper thin, and I heard every word of the conversation of the person in the room next to mine, even when he started talking on the phone at 6am. The shower took a good several minutes to get warm water. There was paint peeling in the bathroom. This definitely isn't a 4 star hotel and after re-reading the reviews, I'm pretty sure many of them are planted.

Review 119:The location was good, and was in the heart of downtown. The hotel tried to have programming and events for travelers. The hotel was fairly cute and the lobby was really nice.

Review 120:The room was a bit sparsely equipped. In a hotel of this caliber, I expected a mini-fridge (there is space for one, but none installed) -- I assume this is because the property is brand new and perhaps not completely outfitted yet. The room had climate control, but it was cold when I was there and I could not get it to a comfortable temp. It would have been nice to have the typical hotel robe one has come to expect, as well as something other than paper and plastic cups to drink from, and more than just one or two available in the room The room was a tad austere. These are minor points, however; I had a very comfortable stay, would stay here again, and would recommend this property to a friend.

Review 121:The hotel has retained its historic facade and many of the 1920's era decorative features inside while being very modern in its decor. My room was sizable and comfortable, and the wifi connection was robust. Management has three Teslas plugged in outside, and a willing staff will take you short hops within the downtown, which is an unexpected treat and great fun. The bellmen were very well informed about the car when I asked technical questions. The afternoon happy hour (gratis) in the bar is especially welcome. The staff at the desk were uniformly helpful and welcoming, as were the bellmen.

Review 122:The staff was amazing right from the moment of us walking in. They made sure that our stay was enjoyable and that we had everything we needed. Also, the added feature of the Tesla was an awesome surprise and fun addition to our trip. :)

Review 123:I booked a king suite way in advance and when we checked in they gave me this little closet of a room. It looked nothing like what was shown in the pics online...not even close, there wasn't even room to put our luggage down!! My girlfriend and I felt extremely closterphobic, it was seriously the smallest suite room I have ever seen, it was so small that I wouldn't even qualify it as a regular room...never seen anything like it. Needless to say my gf immediately called the front desk and got us the suite we saw in the pics and it was NICE! We had to settle for a double queen instead of a king but still a very nice suite. They just opened this hotel after a multi million dollar renovation...unfortunately the painters were not very good or they were very rushed. The paint is peeling in multiple spots in our room, especially the bathroom, along with the towel/robe hook ripping off the door. Was also suppose to have robes in the room but the front desk appologized and said they were back ordered and didn't make it in before the opening. Hopefully they fix the flaws from the renovation and figure out the room situation before our next stay. It's a great hotel but just needs a few tweaks. We will definitely be back.

Review 124:staff is awesome! Complementary tesla car service is amazing, as well as the driver! we never drove anywhere the whole weekend we just called the car service. bar is nice and comfortable with free select drinks during happy hour! The two queen suite was very spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. Hotel is close to everything, and with the car service you don't have to walk anywhere, they even pick you up! We really enjoyed our stay, just make sure you get the room you paid for and you will definitely enjoy it!

Review 125:When we first got to our unit the air didn't work, we left and maintenance came to work on it. The air went on and off all night and when the air was off the room was hot. I wish there was a way to keep the air on and not go on and off!

Review 126:Rooms were beautiful except for bathrooms, tub has stains toilet wouldn't flush. Had to change rooms because the tub was clogged. Staff running front desk didn't know how to check people in or out. People in line we're upset...including us!

Review 127:The vallet service was excellent as we're the management. Rooms were beautiful. Vallet guys we're personable and knew the area. Nice guys!

Review 128:Complimentary breakfast and welcome drink was nice.

Review 129:Clean, unique feel of the common areas and the rooms. The staff is professional and accomodating.

Review 130:Front desk was very nice. Bar staff was excellent.

Review 131:There is nothing I didn't like.

Review 132:The history of guests that have stayed there.

Review 133:Friendly staff, great location and amenities.

Review 134:The price went up already!

Review 135:Everything the electric car ride to the restaurant and the friendly staff.

Review 136:No complaints!

Review 137:Beautiful old hotel with helpful staff!
