Reviews for The Academy Hotel Colorado Springs
Review 1:The heater fan was too loud to sleep with even with earplugs. Had too shut it down before going to bed and turn it back on upon wakening. Also,I thought the rate should be constant during my entire stay but they increased it ten dollars on Thursday night to reflect "weekend" rates without telling me during my check-in for a five night stay. They blamed it on Booking.com.
Review 2:Breakfast omelet was part of the hotel rate and it was excellent.
Review 3:The rest of the hotel was old and dingy. We had to switch to a downgraded room for the same price because we were in the wrong building with our pets. That was a inconvenience. We were on our way to go sightseeing when we had to turn around because they needed to clean that room.
Review 4:The Lobby was impressive and the breakfast was great!
Review 5:The Academy Hotel is obviously a renovated hotel from the 60s or 70s, as it has the big all-in-one check-in desk, fireplace area, restaurant and pool area. Oh, but they have renovated it well. Very comfortable and inviting. The employees were all very nice and helpful. I will definitely stay at this hotel again!
Review 6:NA
Review 7:Staff was excellent, breakfast was excellent, room was excellent and clean and location was excellent. Staff was positive and gave excellent restaurant advice and traveling directions, especially manager-Jose.
Review 8:I liked it all!
Review 9:The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The rooms were good size and the bed was very comfortable. I loved the lobby and the décor.
Review 10:The darkening blind was broken so we had no natural light. The room carpet needed a better vacuum and the shower could have been cleaner. I did feel the staff would have found us another room but we decided not to complain
Review 11:The staff was professional and helpful.
Review 12:Room service missed the mark by a mile. My bed had a huge (uncomfortable) dip in the middle, housekeeping was sub par, bed linens not changed, hair all over bathroom floor, toilet seat broken. Really equivalent to a super 8 or motel 6. Very disappointed and dissatisfied.
Review 13:Nothing
Review 14:I will definitely stay here again. Really nice hotel and awesome breakfast! Everything was really clean also. Quick easy check in and out. Great staff.
Review 15:The breakfast was very good, not the standard hotel breakfast. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean. I stay here every time I'm in colo springs and will continue to in the future.
Review 16:Did not like pool out in the middle of everything. It was loud and out of place.
Review 17:The representative @ the front desk: Her name was somewhat like "Jazon"...she was so helpful and friendly. We really appreciated her upon check-in. Also, a waitress named: "Mike" was wonderful. She was a delight to speak with - and so helpful. She was so refreshing to speak to!
Review 18:Wifi Connection was Not the best, but that's the only mini thing I woul mention as a negative...
Review 19:Nice big room, loved the shower bath tub... Finally a shower head that you could detach from the wall!!! Wonderful nice and helpful personnel! Food in the restaurant was great and the breakfast super with made-before-your-eyes egge and Omelettes!
Review 20:breakfast is generally great, but on the second day, mid-way through breakfast time, several things had run out. There was also confusion about laundry soap.
Review 21:love the location, stayed here two years ago, came back.
Review 22:The layout was strange and at first I was not sure about the hotel, but I ended up liking it a lot.
Review 23:The staff were nice and the pool, hot tub, and ping pong table made this hotel a fun place to stay. The workout room was larger than most and had barbells. The Crave burger place nearby was really good.
Review 24:There was nothing that I didn't like
Review 25:How nice the staff was the rooms are very comfortable it was quiet the pool area was nice and clean the hotel was very clean just an all around good atmosphere
Review 26:The windows don't open. The sitting area wasn't sittable.
Review 27:It was quiet and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was great there was a bit of everything.
Review 28:I asked at the front desk if they had a newspaper available to purchase. No, but I could walk across the street to the gas station and buy one. My key cards did not work the second day I stayed.
Review 29:The location was excellent. Close to major highway and shopping center.
Review 30:No fridge in the room. No centre light and only pretty dim lamps so even with them all on it was pretty gloomy in the room - on ground floor and had other rooms opposite and a walkway between blocks so having blind open not really an option.
Review 31:The hotel looks superior and doesn't disappoint. It offer a good range of breakfast, comfortable rooms, great facilities (though we didn't use most of them), and also offers a great dinner menu.
Review 32:I called in inquire why the water was coming out brown. The individual that answered very condescendingly replied saying the water had been turned off earlier that day, and to just run the water for awhile (which did work). I assume he explained the same thing to many guests; I don't like repeating things either. But I don't understand why someone simply didn't tell the receptionist so guests knew ahead of time. Not the end of the world, but something that can be improved. Also, our mattress was on an incline. I kept waking up because my head was sinking further into a gap made by the bed sliding down off the box spring. I slept fine overall, but this was a first for me at any hotel.
Review 33:The receptionist was outstanding. The main lobby/restaurant/pool area is very nice. Great location off of I25.
Review 34:No elevator. There were water spots on the ceiling of the room. Bathroom seemed very old.
Review 35:The breakfast was terrific. Lots of choices. Lobby was very nice.
Review 36:1) Rm 276 was too dark. Lighting is in adequate. The TV cabinet is large and blocked the available lighting. We had to use our iPhone flashlights to examine our opened suitcases. 2) You only have Pepsi products. We, as most of our generation, don't like the sweetness in Pepsi. You need to furnish cokes for purchase too. You'll also find that Diet Decaf Coke sells just like regular Diet coke. 3) AC blows too hard. Breakfast was cold before we could sit down and eat it.
Review 37:Price Location Courteous employees Good food
Review 38:I think the rooms need more light.
Review 39:The bed is WONDERFUL and the bathroom has a light up magnifying mirror which I SO appreciated! Great complimentary breakfast and nice pool.
Review 40:Being called the morning that my stay is scheduled for and told that they do not have the room I reserved .. Its like a seinfeld episode what's a reservation if they cannot keep the reservation !
Review 41:The hotel lobby was very old & in poor condition...needs updated very badly & pool area as well. It tries to have a resort feel via online descriptions but does not deliver in person
Review 42:The rooms
Review 43:Staying connected to wifi wasn't great at all. Breakfast was good but a lot of times they were out of stuff.
Review 44:Staff was friendly. Great location. Close to lots of attractions and shopping. Overall good place to stay.
Review 45:The wifi so slow..
Review 46:The fitness gym, parking , rooms, the cleaning staff Is absolutely amazing... And the front desk staff...location of the hotel is great....
Review 47:PRitter in business center was down but front desk was great in letting me use theirs.
Review 48:Clean facility with a lot pride shown by staff. Great breakfast!
Review 49:1st day breakfast not ready. Had to leave by 6:30 am. Nothing brought out until 6:15 am and still no eggs at 6:30 let alone an opportunity for an omelette. No hot tub last 2 days of stay. Booked this hotel, paying extra, for these amenities. VERY disappointed. Will never book this location again
Review 50:Breakfast buffet was very good in variety and quality, but VERY disorganized. Wifi was in and out and at one point told me that the maximum number of subscribers had been reached
Review 51:Staff was amazing with ever interaction/
Review 52:No elevator, rooms were dark and drab. Extra cost for cots, room floors were a bit dirty. Pool seemed murky. Everything was all pretty outdated. The lobby was completely overcrowded with kids and preteens while we were there.
Review 53:Although the hotel met our needs and the activities for kids are nice, we probably won't stay there again
Review 54:The people inthe hallway were very loud until late in the night. The common areas including stairwell were dirty. The property including paking lot needed serious attention and maintenance.
Review 55:Overall the room was clean and comfotable.
Review 56:Everyone was extremely helpful and the breakfast waa great. We ed in late after traveling 2 days and they helped us with luggage and our room was very comfy.
Review 57:Building is getting old. The door jam on my room was loose when I opened it or shut it. Whole building had that run down feel to it.
Review 58:Breakfast made this an overall good deal.
Review 59:No elevators and the property is very spaced out so bags are difficult.
Review 60:Older hotel with small rooms, but it was really comfortable and the breakfast was wonderful. Fun atmosphere with a lot of activities in the lobby.
Review 61:If you need an elevator, ask for the main building. The other building does not have an elevator. My room's A/C wasn't working well, the bathroom wall had the wallpaper torn down and painted over with glue still attached to the wall, nail holes, etc... Sheets never changed in the 3 days I was there... Very dated hotel
Review 62:Breakfast - the omelets were really good - ask for real eggs if you want them, otherwise you get egg beaters
Review 63:Bathroom was not in great shape. They tried, but it wasn't a good job. Also the water pressure was bad.
Review 64:Comfortable Bed & Pillows Friendly Staff Great Breakfast
Review 65:The maid service failed to refill in room coffee toward the middle of the stay. The tray was empty before it was refilled. It was hard for the room to get cool during the day with the blind open.
Review 66:Comfortable rooms and good selection at breakfast every morning.
Review 67:I wasnt happy to learn when I was checking in that I was going to have a $200 hold on my card. It didn't say anything about that on the website or when I called to talk to someone. I would have planned for it if I would have known that would happen. If you are staying on weekend watch which room your getting. We where placed close to the pool and could hear kids from the pool yelling and the music from the bar. They say 10 pm for kids but they don't abide by that. We wanted to get in the hot tub but was kicked out. We had to wait to get in it and only got to stay in it for 5 minutes because they make sure it closes at 10 pm. When I book a hotel I make sure it has a pool and hot tub and didn't really get to use either so that really disappointed me. Hot tub was too hot when we actually used it 1 night and pool was too cold.
Review 68:The breakfast was really good. Lots of choices.
Review 69:The fact we had to switch rooms due to the health issues. Our second room had a broken HDMI cable so we had to request a new one. The facilities in general need additional TLC.
Review 70:The staff was very responsive and accommodating. Our first room caused my wife breathing issues (it was in pet friendly wing), but staff was very prompt in moving us to a "newer" room upon request.
Review 71:The room was worn out and dated. The breakfast was not edible. The coffee was lukewarm and the waitperson did not care to fix it. We went out to breakfast instead.
Review 72:We liked the conveninece to the Air Force Academy.
Review 73:Only thing I wish was mentioned when I booked the hotel is that they charge an additional $50 security deposit per night. But the third party I booked with dropped the ball on that one, not the actual hotel.
Review 74:It is a unique set up that is just beautiful. They are also very adament on recycling and energy conservation.
Review 75:Did not appreciate being told I was going to have an additional hold of $50 one card for incidentals. That usually will come at the end of stay should there be any. Not a hold on my card that will then return to my card 3-5 days later
Review 76:Rainy evening, decided to eat in. Restaurant by pool with children doing what they do. Roofed leaking, buckets catching water. Food poor nd staff actually swore at me.
Review 77:Room was good and spacious. Bed was comfortable.
Review 78:While the Tilapia I had for dinner was quite good the frozen mixed vegetables on the side were undercooked. My friends all had prime rib and were very disappointed - it was overcooked and gristly. The salad bar was tiny and underwhelming. Breakfast buffet had a lot of choices but the scrambled eggs and potatoes were cold and dried out. Reception desk staff missing at check out time.
Review 79:Great location, clean and comfortable room. Good bar.
Review 80:The property is well maintained and restful. Staff was friendly. The workout room had an elliptical, treadmill, bike, and some free weights. In the motel' s welcome page, it mentions you can also get a guest pass to to Bally' s. The business center had functional computers and printers.
Review 81:This hotel needs some love and attention it is very run down it needs to have some new paint some new carpet and maintenance is needed in the rooms. The shower head holder was broke and would fall and hit us in the head. Not enough hot water.
Review 82:I liked the breakfast, and the staff was very accommodating. I was able to print my boarding tickets at their computer room. I enjoyed the pool area.
Review 83:Paying bill with lower rate since I booked before price change and breakfast eggs not kept cold before making an omelet. Smell of chlorine from pool moderate at times.
Review 84:Privacy location of room quiet to sleep. Lobby with fireplace to meet other family while staying in area brings warmth. Bathroom nice.
Review 85:I paid with debit card and they charge a $50 per night deposit, that said it would be back on my card as soon as we checked out. It wasn't and I called, they said it takes 3-5 days to get it back.
Review 86:Pool, ping pong, fooz ball for the kids. The breakfast was the best part of the stay.
Review 87:Everyone at this hotel were very friendly and helpful. I stayed here with my four grandkids. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. They loved the pool. The free breakfast was delicious.
Review 88:The smell of chlorine throughout the entire place, the swimming pool is right in the lobby along with where the restaurant is. Our eyes were burning from the smell of chlorine.
Review 89:The breakfast was good but the line was so long and no where to sit, hotel is big! Room was comfortable but lack of ventilation and room was hot and moist even with the room A/C heat controller.
Review 90:The staff (excluding cleaners) has no clue what customer service means, check in to check out they were not friendly. Pool area was dirty. And non smoking rule did not apply to everyone.New Management is needed.Restaurant was over priced for Applebee's like food.
Review 91:The omelet station was the highlight.Thank you Mr. GOOCH
Review 92:The buffet was terrible, the hotel was dated, staff was just average. Also if you pay by debit card there are additional fees to be put on your card for hold. This is not explained on the website and definitely not well in person.
Review 93:They had a nice pool.
Review 94:The lady bartender is rude and treated us like we were a nuisance. Feels like they were short staffed. lacked towels for the pool, hot tub was down the entire weekend. Food in the buffet was consistently out and took awhile to be refilled.
Review 95:The omelet bar is always good, the convenience of the pool and sports bar is very nice.
Review 96:No elevator in the part of the hotel we were staying and we had lots of stuff to schlepp.
Review 97:The large and delicious free breakfast. The $10 discount on meals (bill had to be at least $20) every night.
Review 98:Breakfast buffet was acceptable but the omlette chef seemed most Interested in flirting with the ladies and talking vs. cooking. I gave up on waiting in line.
Review 99:The Falcons Bar is a nice place to hang out. In particular our server Traci was excellent.
Review 100:Bring your own shampoo and soap. They use soap dispensers to cut cost. It wasn't a problem for us, because I would rather have the savings and I have lots of soaps to bring with me. Better to keep cost down.
Review 101:We had a wonderful stay. Staff was great, food was the best breakfast spread we have ever had. Nice to have all amenities in the hotel. Bed was comfortable. Big TV in room. Affordable accommodations.
Review 102:Didn't like the location of pool. The heater/AC unit didn't work properly. The bar was nice but closed early. Was closed by 11. We were a lil disappointed in that. Room service lady bothered a lot during morning before 11 check out.
Review 103:The staff were very kind. Food was great! Rooms were very nice. Good location. Price was decent. Pool table, darts n great bar.
Review 104:They overcharged my credit card for $100.00 in advance for potential use at hotel. Never experienced that before. Said I would get it back. We will see
Review 105:By far the most uncomfortable hotel stay. The bed was slanted to the right, and hard as a rock on the left side. I kept rolling down the bed and neither of us got a wink of sleep.
Review 106:Breakfast was abundant but very average. Breakfast area pretty crowded.
Review 107:Budget hotel that's easy to find and close to plenty of places to eat on a stop over in Colorado Springs.
Review 108:Always a great time. I would like to mention Javier and the amazing service he had given us for the 2nd year in a row. We had forgotten birthday candles for granddaughters 8th birthday party and Javier magically found some and saved the party!! I had asked several other employees at the bar as well as the concierge's desk and no one was able to find any except for Javier!!
Review 109:The pool set up seemed a little awkward, being that it was surrounded by the restaurant.
Review 110:Breakfast buffet was awesome. Rooms were nice. We would definitely stay here again.
Review 111:The restaurant staff were less than friendly and I was confronted about not having my breakfast ticket with me just for coffee! I would think that coffee would be complimentary as it is in two star hotels as well as 3 or more stars. One housekeeper had a bad attitude and refused to help me with clean towels because I was not on the list for my room to be cleaned (an error on the part of the hotel). Another housekeeper was very nice and helped me despite my room not being on her list either. Perhaps some customer service training would be wise.
Review 112:The price was great. The Front Desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean and so were the rooms.
Review 113:From the start when we booked the rooms we didn't know we would have to pay more for deposits at 50.00 per day per room on top of the cost of the rooms. Plus everyone at the front fest has no customer service skills. We stayed for four nights and only got house keepers to clean once cause I had to call 10 times and had to go down to the front desk 4 times and ehen I complained they said it was taken care of which was a lie. Just over all a horrible experience. Our first time in Colorado and the hotel just ruined the trip . Please anyone looking into this property DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
Review 114:Nothing about the property was as advertised!!!
Review 115:From the time we checked in we had a great experience. The staff from front desk to the housekeepers everyone was friendly and helpful, the prime rib meal was great. Will definite stay here again
Review 116:Wi-fi didn't woek but chalked it up to the renovations in progress.
Review 117:Breakfast was provided and excellent. Patrick cooks up a wonderful omelet. The complete breakfast buffet is great with lots to choose. Will be staying there again on our trip home.
Review 118:Lack of elevators made it pretty hard for those with mobility disabilities to get up and down stairs to rooms. (My fault for not specifying disabilities, but seriously did not think their would not be elevators). Overall this location is not handicap friendly. Also the lack of plugs in the rooms on the night stands is kind of annoying as there is hardly anywhere to charge personal electronics in the rooms.
Review 119:Great staff, nice location, and overall awesome service.
Review 120:The bed seemed to have a thick memory foam pad. We're not memory foam people so the bed was a bit uncomfortable.
Review 121:The staff are wonderful. The facility is very comfortable.
Review 122:Gym needs a bit of updating. Some of the foam rollers on the equipment were falling off. That being said there is more equipment than a lot of the chain hotels
Review 123:Room, Bathroom, bed, pillows, overall hotel property & lounge, pool
Review 124:The only gripe was that the price of a snack in the vending machine wasn't accurate - $1 more than advertised. We let the staff know, but that's really the vending company's issue.
Review 125:Everything about the stay was fabulous. There was a small mix up initially on the room, but the friendly staff quickly took care of it. Otherwise, great breakfast, great pool, great room, great everything.
Review 126:They have memory foam beds, first time on one, I did not care for it.
Review 127:The Breakfast buffet was excellent, the chief cooks your eggs to order right in front of you...all the food was great and plenty of it.
Review 128:A bit noisy from highway (but I expected this and brought earplugs ...)
Review 129:Cost Breakfast (more fruit would be nice, too much fat and sugar) Friendly service Free WiFi Walking distance to mall
Review 130:Needs to be fixed, carpet leading into the T tower next to pool. All Ceiling vents need to be cleaned, they were very dirty, in the fireplace area, check-in and eating area. I understand ceiling is high but you can rent a lift to get up and clean them.
Review 131:The morning breakfast was Excellent! The staff always had a smile. Dinner at hotel was great also, didn't have to go out in Cold weather for dinner.
Review 132:Check in was not one of my happiest moments. You should let people know that there is a $100 extra fee when using a debit card.
Review 133:Great Falcon restaurant and servers were great.
Review 134:We asked to have our sink fixed because it was draining very slowly and it wasn't done. One day the maid service wasn't good. Bed not made and dirty washcloth left.
Review 135:The food, breakfast and dinner, were awesome. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great beds and comfortable room.
Review 136:We liked the location And what we paid for 4nigjrs stay was very affordable and the free breakfast buffet was amazing I highly recommend it And yes I will definitely be back
