Reviews for The River Inn
Review 1:Staff tried to charge us high rates as they were busy - booked online and got 20$ cheaper and then they said they only had two people staying!
Review 2:Location
Review 3:Everything was bad, they put us in the wrong room and when they realized we had to move and it seemed as if they were angry with us about it, there was no bath mat, one towel each, no extra pillow, the heating didn't work, when the girl offered to bring me a heater I said yes but never saw the heater. The shower dribbled out and was Luke warm, an overall bad experience.
Review 4:Only the fact that is was close to the park!
Review 5:The Inn is located across the street from the river so you cannot see the river from the property. The pictures were misleading, however the staff is very helpful and the room was comfortable.
Review 6:I liked the quiet and scenery around the property.
Review 7:Animals overturned the garbage cans during the night. Teenagers were the only staff around, there was no real housekeeping service and there were flies in the room. There is no phone in the room at all to contact the front desk.
Review 8:The location was fairly good. The wifi is decent for the location.
Review 9:Dated, dirty, old mattresses, and a cockroach on the door step. Grumpy staff who had to be reminded that towels are a bonus in the room.
Review 10:That they accepted our cancellation after the first night without charges.
Review 11:Shabby and needed maintenance. Hair dryer was burned out but no one told us until we complained about the smell. Had to go to office to get towels. Had to request housekeeping and tell them what you wanted done. Dirty towels and garbage left outside room.
Review 12:Good location for exploring the south side of Sequoia National Park.
Review 13:The soap in the shower was there from a previous guest with hair on the bar of soap. The small bottles of shampoo had been filled with water instead of shampoo. I had reserved a king bed and got a double bed room.
Review 14:Close to the Sequoia National Park
Review 15:The view, location, the fact that it was clean, inside the room was warm and it smelled nice. Very good price for very good conditions. Totally recommend
Review 16:The tv only had a couple of channels available and they gave us a 2-bed room when there was a single bed unit available next door. And they sent us to gateway restaurant where good was extremely price and not even good worth the price.
Review 17:The hotel Room was clean.
Review 18:They recommended the neighbor's place for breakfast, and I went there: I would have expected more or being charged less for what I got.
Review 19:Excellent Location!
Review 20:The room was not clean, no soap neither cup or glass but there was a coffee machine.
Review 21:The location is great very close to the parc, store and breakfast next door . A good restaurant not far. The internet was good
Review 22:Wifi slow. Everything could do with upgrading and freshening.
Review 23:Great location. Nice to have a table and chris on the balcony. Upstairs rooms best. Ideally close to the sequoia national park.
Review 24:Shabby, needs a face lift, not very clean, the door lock was iffy and need to be 'twiddled' before it would open, the room was far from nice. Not somewhere we would rush back too.
Review 25:Not much, the location was good for our visit to Sequoia Park
Review 26:The total room and bathroom was not cleaned. On the bathroom floor was still hair from the guys before us. The shower was totally dirty. On the blanket were blood stains. Don't go there!
Review 27:The room was not updated. The shower curtain was a joke and the tub and toilet were not clean. We had to use a chair to stand on to turn the air conditioner on because it was up so high.
Review 28:It was fairly close to our destination and the staff was friendly.
Review 29:room was poorly cleaned, Tv would not change from the weather channel and outside appearance was messy
Review 30:location close to the riverveiw and the Gateway and nice baloney
Review 31:Rooms were not cleaned daily. The hotel is shabby, worn out. There was no creamer for the coffee. The walls were paper-thin, so you could hear everything. Cannot walk anywhere: only driving.
Review 32:Great location: only one mile from Sequoia National Park. Restaurants within 5 min drive.
Review 33:The room did not live up to the price we paid for it. There were many bugs in the room -- cockroaches, ants, a dead dragonfly. In the middle of the night I was awakened by a cockroach crawling up my arm. The room was small. When we checked in we were given two towels and two washcloths to take to our rooms, but no bath mats or hand towels.
Review 34:Location; convenient to Sequoia National Park
Review 35:Outdated and things looked dirty, but I'm not sure if that's just because they were old. Air conditioner took a very long time to cool the room down.
Review 36:Location close to entrance to sequoia.
Review 37:Spotty WiFi and lack of laundry facilities
Review 38:Older facility with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Excellent location for a visit to Sequoia National Park if the park lodges are booked and you don't want to camp.
Review 39:The place can be transformed in a simple and nice hotel here to stop if u go to the Sequoia Park, but now it is abandoned....the room is dark, the air conditioning system has the same age of my grandfather...the bathroom is with a very sad tend of the shower. The sheets were not ironed and the general feeling was "I don't care how the guests will feel"...In our room the lamp cover was broken and patched with a stapler.
Review 40:It is close to the entrance of the Sequoia National Park
Review 41:Cleanliness can be improved. Fridge was quiet hot outside so also not very cool inside.
Review 42:Close to Sequoia NP entrance (2 mi). Grocery store nearby. Restaurants within some minutes drive. Rooms bog enough for 4 persons.
Review 43:When we first got to the hotel, we almost left because it didn't even look like it was open. The main building, where the "office" and I use this very loosely was in complete need of repair. Curtains falling off of windows, windows broken, etc. No maid service, we were told that it was an "Inn" and was different from regular hotels/motels.
Review 44:The hotel was very close to the entrance to Sequoia NP which was very convienient. Small café/shop next door to get breakfast.
Review 45:Room was only partially made up. Had to go to office multiple times. Housekeeper with attitude but man at reception super friendly and helpful.
Review 46:Conveniently located, easy to find.
Review 47:Better than expected from the other reviews. Definitely could use some updates. This area is just a bit expensive but you can't beat the location. Realistically you are staying here to enjoy the national parks not the hotel anyways.
Review 48:Location!!
Review 49:Had some ants in the room. Rooms were ok but could use an update. Price seemed high relative to the quality of the hotel.
Review 50:Great spot to use as launching point for exploring Sequoia national park. Only a few miles from the park entrance. Had a little trouble figuring out how to check in but once person came out they were very friendly and gave some good advice on what to see in the area.
Review 51:Rustic hotel, no extras, such as pool or spa. A bit expensive but you are paying for the location.
Review 52:Well maintained, clean and equipped with microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator. Great location, good food next door. Easy access to the Sequoia National Forrest.
Review 53:We had one issue, but the staff took care of it immediately.
Review 54:Excellent location- close to Sequoia Nat'l Park, very friendly and helpful staff. We ate every meal at Sequoia Cider Mill Restaurant, about 5 miles away, after tasting their ribs & chicken, and were never disappointed.
Review 55:-It was nearly impossible to get in touch with the staff before myarrival. I emailed and called several times before I got a vague e-mailthat didn't answer my query. -It was very difficult to get incontact with staff during my stay, too. No one is regularly in theoffice, and even when I rang for service several times, no oneresponded. -The shower felt very unclean, with old, rotting caulking. The shower head was basically a drip. Shower shoes are a must. -It isclear that there is no regular deep cleaning; there were mounds of dustand dirt against the walls and between the beds and tables. -The carpetwas old, dank, and odorous. -The bed comforter looked like it hadn'tbeen washed in months. -Housekeeping didn't clean my room for thetwo days that I was there, even though I put the sign on my door knob.-The fridge didn't work. -They need to invest in the locked trashcans that the park has; a loud clamor woke me up at 3:00 am, as a bearhad knocked down the metal trash can (which was full of garbage), andwas rummaging for food right outside my door. At the very least, theyneed to empty the trash bins nightly. The staff should let guests knowabout proper food storage, as this seems to be a frequent occurrence. They did not warn me about this, and there was food in my car, whichcould have been dangerous. -I spent my entire days in the park. All Iwanted at the end of the day was to feel clean and comfortable. While Idon't need luxurious conditions, I didn't ever feel clean inthis space. -Overall, it felt like the staff knows that their locationis hard to beat, which seems to deter them from putting any effort atall into making the accommodations more comfortable and pleasant.Definitely not worth the $180 a night we spent. We would have beenbetter off at a Motel 6, Super 8, or in a tent at the park.
Review 56:-The location was great; short drive to the base of Sequoia NationalPark. -The sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable. -The WiFi wasreliable. -The air conditioning worked well. -The table and chairs onthe porch area were lovely. -There was always parking.
Review 57:This place was fine, cheap, and very convenient for the park. You have to leave a note if you want your room cleaned. Things were a bit tired but everything worked - fridge, microwave, shower, wifi.
Review 58:After check in nobody was anywhere around to correct the problems we had with the room. Used soap still in the shower. No towel service (two day stay).
Review 59:Close to the park entrance. Bed was comfortable. The AC was awesome.
Review 60:Bathroom needs maintenance and renovation; property overall can be cleaner, neater, and landscaping improved. The mini-fridge in my room didn't really work - it is mainly good as an insulated cooler which you keep cold using bags of ice. (I had brought gallon-size food storage bags on our trip.) However, I felt the location, price, view, and decency of the room itself (not counting the bathroom) more than made up for any negative aspects. A recommendation - if possible, install window blinds so guests can view the mountains without totally exposing their room to passersby. I know it is the trend for motels/hotels just to use the curtains that just pull to one side (and it costs money to install blinds), but I think it would make guests' visit much more enjoyable if they could have adjustable window blinds.
Review 61:Location (1 mile from Sequoia Nat. Park, next to a store which sells good quality breakfast and lunch sandwiches); Second floor rooms have balcony and great view of the mountains; Rooms themselves are fine; we liked the high quality toiletries provided (soap, shampoo, etc.) Price for this location and decent rooms is really great compared to other similarly located places to stay.
Review 62:The hotel itself doesn't have a restaurant so you have to go next door for breakfast, and down the road for dinner.
Review 63:Great location. It's a good place to spend the night after visiting the parks.
Review 64:Wifi did not work for us.
Review 65:Property is very near the south entrance to Sequoia National Park. Our room was clean and comfortable. On the whole a pleasant overnight stay,
Review 66:Any changes to our booking needed to be 3 weeks out and there was no wayto directly contact the hotel.
Review 67:The bed was comfy, the room was clean, it looked very nice! Very closeto Sequoia National Park's Foothills entrance.
Review 68:The room had to be cleaned after we called it to the attention of management, and said no refund. The manager came and took care of the careless cleaning.
Review 69:location to Sequoia Park. It was one of a few close to the south entrance to park.
Review 70:refrigerator did not work. Staff unfamiliar with area. Tiles in bathroom stuck to my feet and pulled up broken shower door. Staff unavailable after 9 pm to complain and never saw them again after check in.
Review 71:Close to national park. Clean comfortable beds.
Review 72:Everything. Shower had mold. Bed was hard. Ice machine outside was leaking and had horrible water around it. Came back from getting lunch and the owner was in our room "checking the cable"
Review 73:Had a roof and bed. Only decent part
Review 74:Not only for this hotel, but in general for california touristy areas, the price for the type of hotel is quite high. We arrived after 9pm andleft very early,so actually we did not get to meet the staff, althougheverything was arranged for us to access.
Review 75:The location is good, only few km from the Sequoia National Parkentrance, although you still need to drive over 1h to the centre oif thepark. Facilities were ok for an overnight stay, considering it is a sortof road motel. Everything was clean.
Review 76:Maintance was poor, frig did not work, air conditioner dripped water all over sink area and towels. Generally run down facilities. House keeping needs improvement.
Review 77:Price was right.
Review 78:They didn't have bath mat, fresh towels and no room cleaning. I payed $150 per night x 2 nights + tax. A female staff said, the average rates are $180 per night around the area, why I've got the room lower than average. Her means, I didn't pay average, I couldn't get basic service.
Review 79:None
Review 80:Staff not present most of the time, slow wifi, a desk in the room would be appreciated.
Review 81:Perfect location, comfortable rooms with (almost) everything necessary for the stay, tables and chairs in the terrasse at the entrance to each room.
Review 82:We were greeted as soon as we arrived! Benny and Vicki are very gracious hosts, letting us know if there was anything we needed, please tell them. The room was clean and comfortable. You can get a great breakfast right next door! Great value, great hosts! I will be staying there again without hesitation! I think the people who have complained in the reviews are people that are just never satisfied, or expect way too much.
Review 83:Lights were out or broken, told new bulbs were on order. Shower could not regulate temperature or stop water flow. Exterior very dated and needed attention.
Review 84:location, so close to the park.
Review 85:Please be aware that you should check-in by 9pm. Otherwise the woman offers a self check-in solution.
Review 86:The woman was so friendly. She gave a lot of good advice what to do in Sequoia and she offered another night with 20 % discount. Three Rivers is a small village spread over several miles but there are some restaurants and a grocery store. There is a cafe next to the inn where you can buy "Ranchers breakfast". Get enough food for the day in Sequoia National Park. Coffee machine in the room.
Review 87:Very nice, clean and modest hotel a few miles from the entrance of Sequoia Park. The staff were very friendly, even let us check in about one hour earlier. We felt comfortable for the price that we paid and have no complains.
Review 88:Everything could have been more updated (rooms/bathroom were a bit outdated), but for this location this is what you get for this price
Review 89:Very sweet people running the hotel. Everything was decent (clean, internet, facilities)
Review 90:Porch light too bright at night. Sheets on the bed were clean but very old and limp. No one on premise when checking in 1/2 hour before 3PM and room not available. Lady with fussy baby asked us to return.
Review 91:Scenery. Quiet. Good shower as water was not too hot with a gentle shower head. Plenty of toiletries and coffee.
Review 92:Cleanliness, towels like cardboard, afraid to use AC too much for fear of a surcharge, which was posted in the room. Nobody there for official check-in for several hours after arrival, but allowed into room. Flying insects in room (hey, it's the woods though!) due to door being left open by cleaning staff. Room had been heavily smoked in despite policy.
Review 93:Location, location, location! WiFi
Review 94:Shower looks dirty. Not a good drainage. Patio outside full of cigarettes butts. Patio to have a pick-nic looks dusty. Decoration inside the room looks eighties. I would not recommend this place. Person in front desk was friendly and helpful finding us towels for the group, they look old.
Review 95:Close to the park.
Review 96:Be aware that they do not allow Check in after 9 p.m. we were traveling and did not get there till 10 the office was closed nobody available to check us in. there is no cell phone reception up there so we had to drive around the mountain trying to find another hotel with vacancy
Review 97:Everything was perfect.
Review 98:The owner,(a very sexy man from Jordan) was the kindest person I've ever met, he truly wants to make eveyone feel at home and welcomed. The hotel is calm and peaceful specialy at night with the river sounds in the background, room #9 was just perfect for just chilling in the balcony listening to the night animals and amazing for the morning view of the mountains. There's great breakfast place right next door to it. Over all I would definitely recomend it to all my friends and family, gotta make that trip again myself.
Review 99:nothing stood out as being worthy of a complaint.
Review 100:This place was a short drive to Sequoia and very close to resturants in Three Rivers. The owner was awesome! We asked if he had a DVD player that we could borrow and he went into his house (he lives on site) and found one for us!!! That was really cool of him.
Review 101:Nothing. The family running the motel were very down to earth. I Would recommend this place to anyone. It was very quiet and peaceful. Very Zen. This is the first place my spouse and I have truly co-existed. Not fighting over dumb stuff. Good vibes!
Review 102:I liked the totem market next to the motel. They had a really good BBQ platter for a modest price. We got it to go and took it to our room. YUMMY! It was so good we went back the next night and got another.
Review 103:Place was outdated but functional. Internet did not work the 1st day.
Review 104:location & staff are excellent. This automatically creates a rating trouble. Under local hotels this is surely 4 or 5 start (surely based on price/location), however if your used to mid level this would be 2 or three starts.
Review 105:We booked for 2 days.the first room he put us in the shower was not Cleaned. when getting a room there was a couple already in there with a baby and he took them out and said they were only watching tv. From that moment on I knew I should have stayed elsewhere. Then he took us to another room where we stayed. I didnt feel comfortable knowing they might not even scrub the showers all they seem old. The next day we went to the park when we came back our door had paper all over it cause they painted it and we werent aware. Good thing we took our luggage with us i didnt trust the guy. Just as were going in a man walks straight towards us not talking and just stands behind my husband without a word or say something before he crept up on us. He asked us what we were doing. Were like this is our room. He's all confused said, "oh no one is supposed to be here". At that moment i was mad. He's like theres no luggage. Well we have a key and we took it with us. Duuuh... I told him straight out its an inconvenience since we got there id rather get my money back and drive home I dont care if its late or im tired and i live in vegas i didnt mind to drive as long as i didnt stay there. We went inside to grab the rest of our stuff when we came back out the man was gone. Noone around. They hide the dont want to give no money back. I left home not caring about the refund I no longer felt comfortable. The man that first helped us no where to be seen. I would never ever go back!
Review 106:its close to the park entrance.
Review 107:It was the best birthday trip my husband had. The room was nice and clean. The white sheets were actually WHITE and stain free. Towels were in excellent condition. Coffee Machine worked perfectly as well as the microwave and fridge. I loved it all. Best place to stay and you cant beat the prices. They actually went out of their way to add another day with out any hassle. Its about 1 mile away from Sequoia National Park Entrance. The owner was awesome and very nice. They were very hospitable. I am going again next year and no doubt I will be staying here again.
Review 108:That I had yo ask for bathroom to be cleaned That remote location made wifi intermittent at best
Review 109:The location is excellent, very close to park entry The staff were very helpful, carrying bags and cleaning dirty bathroom immediately
Review 110:If you're looking for a nice place to stay this hotel is perfect, who cares about the fancy things when you're so close to the beautiful nature, amazing views, quietness, fresh air, perfect!! The owner Beni is very nice and helpful, the rooms were fine, just what you need to rest and forget about the city for a while
Review 111:This was a great facility. Wildlife right there on property, very friendly staff, incredibly accommodating, excellent location. I would highly highly recommend to a friend.
Review 112:Great staff that ensure your every need is met. Proximity to beautiful scenery and deer at the doorstep! Yes that advert is a true representation, my kids love it.
Review 113:Absolutely nothing.
Review 114:First of all, I chose this location through this site because of the price and the close proximity to the Sequoia National Park. It was my first trip to that area and didn't want to spend too much money because I was traveling alone and only staying for two nights. I am a blue collar guy so I wasn't expecting much. Actually, I expected the worst because of some of the reviews. But this trip was planned at the last minute so I didn't care.So it was to my surprise when I met the owners, a lovely young couple who took over the ownership of the place recently. They were very friendly and accommodating. I literally felt like I made new friends the moment I met them. I was also surprised that the place was full Sunday night. I expected to be the only guest since it was end of the weekend and due to the bad reviews on here and on yelp. I realized that the bad reviews about this place were from the time under the previous ownership. The room (# 9) looked dated but it was super clean. The bed was comfortable, the water pressure in the shower was powerful, and the heater in the room worked well when sleeping. Actually the room got so warm for me, when it was only 45 degrees outside, that I had to turn it off in the middle of the night! I went to bed early each nights I was there because I wanted to get up to the mountains at 5 am. I was worried that noise from adjacent rooms were going to keep me awake but nope. I had great, undisturbed sleep each night I were there. Most importantly, I have a Metro PCS phone and I was getting no reception at all in or near the Park. So I was happy and surprised to hear that this place has Wifi! I was able to use my phone with great connection speed to email, use messenger apps, and watch things on youtube in my room after a long day of hiking. This is not the Hilton Hotel. Everyone complains because we live in a society where people want everything for nothing.
Review 115:Nothing
Review 116:Everything. Located 2 miles from the Sequoia National Park entrance. The owners cooked a BBQ and home made soup for guests at $10 a head for our first night. Excellent food and really friendly people. Could not ask for a better place. Deer are also frequent visitors to the motel.
Review 117:The River Inn was a very practical overnight stop, conveniently located just outside Sequoia National Park. Benny our host was absolutely great, and couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. As we had spent a long day travelling (with our young son) he offered us a hot dinner on site at a very reasonable price. The homemade soup, chicken and corn was very welcome and meant we did not have to find somewhere else to eat and could just relax in our room. Wifi internet was very good and complimentary. Room was clean and comfortable. A good rest stop en route. Many thanks to Benny!
Review 118:No breakfast. No room cleanup, bedding change, trash pick up on second day. Poor maintenance: no lights over lavatory. Was offered warmed over very dried food from 2-3 days old BBQ (10$ a person. Avoid) The place needs to be freshened up and the managers would benefit from a hotel management course or two.
Review 119:Closeness to the parks. The receptionist (owner) easily shared her knowledge about the closed-by sites to visit.
Review 120:Not as clean as I would like. The bathrooms were updated but there were hairs and dust and dirt. The towels were handed to us at check in. Thought that was odd. They had lint and hair on them. Locks on doors were not deadbolted or secure enough for me by myself.
Review 121:Very close to the park entrance. Staff friendly, Helpful.. Thought of every amenity you would need in the room. Rooms were not crowded. Well set up and comfortable
Review 122:The AC was very noisy, wifi wasn't working very well in our room.
Review 123:Close to the park, nice clean room, comfortable enough. We liked it there even more than we expected.
Review 124:I noticed that the room was dusty and a dirty fork from a previous client was beside the bedside table.
Review 125:I noticed that the bathroom was very clean. The facilities were appropriate. The owners though of everything that we might need for a comfortable stay. Not noisy at all.
Review 126:The the room was not clean ans the surroundings not well maintained.
Review 127:The one person that was responsible for keeping the room and the surroundings of the Inn clean was very nice; however his cleaning job left much to be desired. And, of course, the location of the Inn is great.
Review 128:The Trash near the sink was not taken out before I got into the room. The rooms are not cleaned daily and the owner simply asks you how many towels you need as they are not in the room. If you're used to clean linens daily and all the creature comforts of a Hilton or some other chain don't expect it here. It's a bit rustic, but it works. the Wi-Fi was intermittent and did not always work. I guess it's to be expected in the mountains.
Review 129:The location is excellent if your heading to Sequoia National Park. Park entrance is about two miles up the road. It's right off Highway 198, but because there is very little going on after dark there really isn't any noise to worry about. The summer may be different, but I was there in mid September and it was quiet. You will hear the occasional vehicle go by and will certainly hear loud bikes if they role through. It worked for me as I was traveling alone and just wanted somewhere to crash that was close to the park.
Review 130:Rooms need updating but were clean. No restaurant but there is a good one just down the road.
Review 131:The location was perfect and the manager, Bennie, did everything to make our stay pleasant, including giving advice on Sequoia.
Review 132:We thought we were getting a room with a river view and were across the street from the cabins that had the river view. The toilet malfunctioned but didn't get fixed because nobody ever came into the room to make the bed or give us more coffee. The beds weren't made on our second day, we didn't get coffee and we didn't get clean towels. The TV didn't work and we only got a few local channels. The Wi-Fi code didn't work so we logged into an unsecured Wi-Fi. Overall, this place was just a notch above a dive.
Review 133:The motel was located close to where we were going. It was pretty quiet, there were very few guests. The Totem Store right next door was fun and they had excellent breakfast burritos and the guys that were working there were super!
Review 134:Dirty bathroom, hair in tub, nasty coffee machine looked like it had never been cleaned, frig did not work properly, could not get wifi signal, manager argued about included breakfast ( and eventually sent us to another motel to eat). Don't stay here!!!
Review 135:Check in was confusing and a little unprofessional. No formal registration form. Staff couldn't process my Amex card.
Review 136:Close to park. Close to dining facilities. Room and bath were clean and comfortable.
Review 137:This motel is older just like the rest of the property's along the road. You could spend more elsewhere for the same type of room. Just an older community.
Review 138:The room was dated but clean and quiet. The heat, air conditioning, and plumbing worked well. The bedding looked to be newer, and was comfortabe. The staff was very polite and acomodating. The wifi worked and is a necessity with poor to no cell service in this town. Good value for the money spent. Overall a good experience.
