Reviews for Missouri Athletic Club
Review 1:Smoking in the restaurant. Like stepping back into the 1980s. Left with my clothes stinking of smoke. Ugh!
Review 2:Full of character: oak, chandeliers and amazing sports facilities, fast wifi.
Review 3:Room was outdated, peeling paint in the bathroom. Had to step up to enter the bathroom, and sink was size and height for a child
Review 4:Great location, staff was friendly and helpful. Lobby was beautiful
Review 5:We arrived in St Louis at 11 am and were told an early check-in may be possible. When we asked we were told to try again at 1pm as the rooms were not ready, told again at 3pm and were accommodated at 4pm. It was at check in we were informed that the athletic facilities, our main reason for booking this hotel, were closed for the day as of 4pm. There was also the matter of the per person fee to use said facilities. I believe this should have been mentioned or posted somewhere. The room was dated and the paint/plaster was pealing in several areas. The shower is small by American standards and the beds are on the flimsy side.
Review 6:The front desk staff worked within their limits to correct the problems that we had. The lobby and common areas are nice, warm and inviting; a great space to gather or have a drink before going out to explore St Louis.
Review 7:Great location for the Rams game. I attended. But also a great location for anything downtown such as ballpark village, the arch laclades landing. Very nice staff and knowledgeable.
Review 8:I did not like the street noise. It sounded like a race from Fast N' Furious was going on down below.
Review 9:Loved the location and the lady on late evening shift was beyond friendly. There was no record of our reservation when we arrived. Luckily, there were rooms available. She upgraded us from a queen to a king, gave us a cheaper rate and gave us free parking for the mishap even though I never complained or showed any type of disgust for the mixup. SUPER friendly and much appreciated!
Review 10:Hide a bed sofa in room needs replaced. May it be possible to illuminate or caution of step down from bathroom in the middle of the night, to prevent future guest from falling.
Review 11:Atmosphere, Architecture, Attitude of Staff.
Review 12:Dated hotel rooms...but very clean with comfortable beds.
Review 13:The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. And the common facilities are fabulously appointed.
Review 14:I don't know if the parking lot attendant was park of the hotel staff. I don't believe she was because of how rude she was. My car battery had died due to leaving my lights on over the weekend. When I ask for Assistance she acted put out. She said what do you want me to do about it and went back to watching her game show. I walked back to the hotel where an employee used his own car to jump my car. I don't think that I did anything deserve that kind of treatment when paying $15 a day. The only other complaint I had was the drunk homeless man shouting obscenities to every woman that walked by. I think there should have been some sort of security on the outside of the building. That kind of stuff goes on in every big city. I would recommend this beautiful hotel even with the problems I encountered.
Review 15:The hotel its self was so beautiful and filled with history You could close your eyes and imagine the extravagant parties of the past. The staff was all friendly and very helpful.
Review 16:Nothing
Review 17:Great location. Lovely old building in the heart of Downtown St Louis. The fitness centre was amazing - as good as any gym I have ever used. There was a $12 one-off payment for the room (which meant that the two of us could use the gym as often as we wanted to - and we did 3 times during our stay). The staff were very friendly and helpful and, although it was $15 per day extra, there was safe garage parking.
Review 18:Absolutely loved the workout facilities, basketball court and golf simulator. My son and I used these every day. We had a car but never moved it for 4 days. We walked all around downtown, to Arch, to Cardinal and Rams games. Great location. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 19:The bed was a bit Squeaky and we had to switch off the ceiling fan as it was hitting something when it was on!
Review 20:A very old and interesting building. Very good position. Staff were helpful.
Review 21:The bedrooms are a little tired.
Review 22:The downtown location is superb. Parking next door works well. The club atmosphere, clientele and sports bar suited us, but would be no good for a family with children. The staff were very friendly and efficient.
Review 23:parking could have been cheaper.
Review 24:Great old school hotel and men's sports club. Beautiful lobby and function rooms with a 1st class restaurant with cigar smoking sports club.
Review 25:The building was a very cool old building with a lot of wood work, and beautiful rooms that my kids and eye loved to explore. The staff was very nice and helpful. The location was excellent, very close to the gateway arch, the Rams stadium, and awesome restaurants and entertainment.
Review 26:Location allowed us to enjoy the downtown location. After spending the first part of the day traveling the gym and pool gave us an opportunity to get the kinks out and relax in the spa.
Review 27:Staff wasn't the friendliest and gave the impression your car may or may not be broken into at a moment's notice
Review 28:Really close to the Arch, Busch Stadium and a nice rooftop bars
Review 29:The staff were attentive, helpful and genuinely friendly. I could not have asked for better service. Everyone had a smile and helped to make our business meeting a success.
Review 30:Parking should be included, not $15 more. More information on coat ofbreakfast, we were to nervous to ask.
Review 31:Right off the interstate and around the corner from the arch. The hotelis extremely fancy! Don't walk in, in leisure attire. They have astrick dress code.
Review 32:A few spots on wall suffered from peeling paint; and the carpet could be replaced.
Review 33:The staff was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. I used the Business Center and the color copier is exceptional. It printed very detailed graphics really clear. Room was clean & bed comfortable. Even though there were a few minor facility type problems, I would stay again & recommend it to others.
Review 34:Noisy at night. Room next to elevator.
Review 35:Friendly helpful staff was very accommodating. Bus transportation to and from stadium. Boys enjoyed the basketball court.
Review 36:Dress code requested in the dining area. General feeling like they want to pursuit sone kind of exclusiveness when the hotel itself is nothing special in terms of luxury. On the contrary, the the furniture's style both in the rooms and in the hall was way too old fashioned and I didn't like it at all. Price is too high for the rooms, fair enough only if you consider the fitness area. Few arrogant and snobby people amongst the guests.
Review 37:Friendly staff. Amazing fitness area with indoor swimming pool, gym and a whole free basketball court all for you! Fantastic.
Review 38:The athletic club on 5th floor was amazing. My husband really enjoyed playing basketball and the virtual golf. The lobby area is like a museum; make time to read and explore.
Review 39:Coffee maker had no outlet, had to put it in the bathroom on tiny counter. Very small room and bathroom, and construction was going on early morning.
Review 40:Staff, shuttle service to Cardinals game.
Review 41:No bad experience, just misread the reservation until the night before about the dresscode. But if you respect the dress code they will respect you. Common sense.
Review 42:I loved the history, the staff was well mannered and very helpful. The rooms are a little small but they are going through renovations to update the rooms. Great atmosphere and prestige presence.
Review 43:Our room felt dirty to me. No place to hang towels. View was awful from our room. We had an inside room, so our view was of other rooms. The rooms are in process of getting remodeled, so this may not be an issue for long.
Review 44:Great location, staff was friendly. Onsite parking was nice.
Review 45:Wifi was rubbish , for a man and old American toilets it just don't work when need to do a number 2 privates touching bowl :( ,,
Review 46:A way different kinda hotel in a positive way , very exceptional :)
Review 47:Everything cost extra, parking, pool/athletic club facilities, breakfast. Also, the climate control is a bit out of date and there's not really any way to heat up a cold room in summer or cool down a hot room in winter.
Review 48:Beautiful historic hotel. Professional and very friendly staff. Very central downtown location.
Review 49:Room very dated. I didn't even want to shower because the bathroom was dimly lit and a bit creepy. You have to pay extra to use the pool.
Review 50:The lobby was incredible. Close to downtown sights. Friendly staff.
Review 51:Smell of room. Bed was old and hard. Expensive parking. Cost extra to work out. TV was broke first day and called 3 times before it was addressed.
Review 52:Location, great staff, super friendly. I enjoyed the history of the building.
Review 53:traffic in the city center is a bit loud, elevators are very noisy for adjacent rooms
Review 54:very friendly staff, good sports facilities, fast wifi, delicous meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner
Review 55:Absolutely the noisiest hotel ever. Open Oliver's to the hallway. Doors slam like explosions. 1930's facility withno upgrades. No plugs in the bathrooms. No plugs on desks.Noise all night from adjoining rooms an above and below rooms. How did they ever test on the 1930's?
Review 56:Some nostalgia in the lobby and good artwork.
Review 57:This is a membership club that was recently opened to the public. There is a dress code, the restaurants in the club have dress codes, access to athletic facilities is $12 extra, parking is $12 extra, and the rooms sorely need updating. We were not aware of this in advance & I called the club to discuss our accommodations.
Review 58:The historic ambiance and location of hotel can't be beat! We were upgraded to a suite at no charge because our room was microscopic and on the floor being renovated.
Review 59:Breakfast was included if you read the small print and brought your business casual clothes. Which we did not. We came for a concert not a business meeting. And our room didn't have working air conditioning, the hallways were cooler than our room. Thank goodness for a ceiling fan.
Review 60:Liked the overall ambiance of the hotel. Staff was very friendly and willing to answer any questions.
Review 61:The bed was extremely uncomfortable. Requested a handicap accessible room and didn't receive one;additional money charged if we wanted to use pool, sauna, or gym. Walls in room were cracked and crumbling in places.
Review 62:The hotel was beautiful and rich with history. Location was perfect based on our travel plans. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 63:The rooms are a little dark. and every once in a while, I'd smell tobacco smoke.
Review 64:Great historical building with a lot of wonderful amenities. The staff is wonderful. The rooms are dated, but that's what gives it the charm.
Review 65:preferable dress code was bit surprise for me) but did not problems with not having it)
Review 66:great location, great historical building and atmosphere, great interiors and stuff, nice price for all that
Review 67:Although, I liked the historic look of the common areas, the room and especially the bathroom are too outdated (e.g., carpet stains, unpleasant smell).
Review 68:The location is perfect and the staff was very friendly. I really liked the breakfast (not included in room price) served at the restaurant on the ground floor.
Review 69:A bit old building. Breakfast is not included, but the restaurant on the ground floor served great breakfast.
Review 70:This is an old and authentic gentlemen club. Totally enjoyed staying in this historic place.
Review 71:No free wifi. I do wish they would've worked with us on our reservation date because we got there a day late and had to pay for a night we didn't use. Also they didn't advise me that a hold would be placed on my card when we checked out (we used a different card to pay and both cards ended up with authorization holds, not convenient for travel).
Review 72:Group of four friends. We drove to StL for a dance competition. The hotel was gorgeous! We thought we would be subject to a grimy motel because of our budget but this place makes you feel like you get a lot for your money. Room was clean, bathroom was clean. Staff was friendly. Walking distance to amazing places downtown. Eat at "death in the afternoon" for some amazing brunch! Local craft beer options also that are very good.
Review 73:The rooms are a bit dated.I live the old architecture but the bathrooms and beds could use an update.
Review 74:The location was great amd so was the staff. Even the members we met were very nice. Love the fact you can still smoke in the areas of the building. Rare find!
Review 75:There wasn't a screen in our window so we couldn't keep it open (it was warm in our room).
Review 76:Location was great as well as the price. The parking was close and cheap. Pretty nice building as well.
Review 77:Besides the amazing location and the outstanding staff the best part of the Athletic Club was the history. They have done an amazing job restoring and preserving the hotel making it a must see and stay in St Louis
Review 78:The walls and the adjoining door from our room to the next room where way too thin. We woke up on Sunday morning to the couple next to us having ALOT of fun. 3 times!!! She finally said and I quote. "OK WE ARE DONE! YOU AREN'T GETTING ANYMORE!!!" And maybe you might oil the beds too. Nothing else really.
Review 79:We could walk any where we wanted to go.
Review 80:The wonderful character of the historic building and friendlyness of the staff. Outstanding.
Review 81:I love when old things are preserved and this building is very well maintained and full of history. Priceless art in the lobby is on display for viewing. I was there for only one night but will make this my number one choice when staying in St Louis.
Review 82:First off, staff was great very helpful and informative. Very clean and comfortable place to stay. Didn't use any of the athletic facilities but look to be top of the line. Hotel was rebuilt in 1914 so if you are looking for a modern room with modern updates exept for the flat screen tv you may want to book somewhere else this is truly a historic building. Also don't show up in your pajamas because there is a dress code which I love
Review 83:The only bad part was having to step up into the bathroom. That could cause you to trip in the dark.
Review 84:It was very inexpensive for a downtown hotel of its quality and especially a last-moment reservation. The bed was firm & the TV had channels I wanted to watch. Lovely classic decor.
Review 85:Temperature was a little high in the room but we eventually worked it out.
Review 86:It was a great location, staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was very toasty as we tried to adjust the temperature. Gym was excellent
Review 87:The bed in room 923 was the most uncomfortable bed we've ever slept in. We noticed the incredibly loud crunching noise it made the minute we sat on it. This is the second survey/review I have filled on for you folks. Hopefully someone has gone to room 923 and sat on the bed. Just pushing with your hands does not make the horrible crunching sound. We are a mature (78 year old)couple in town for a funeral so we were not canoodling in the bed to make it squeak.
Review 88:The bed was not the most comfortable bed. We paid to use the hot tub and was under the impression it was open until 4p on Sun (that is what the paper indicated). So after the Broncos got killed, we wanted to relax. However that area closed at 1p. So we paid to use the hot tub once for 20 mins.
Review 89:I like the history of the building and the location. The staff was most helpful and extremely friendly. We will stay there again. Very close to several good eating places. Plus if you go to Jack Buck Grille, Dave is AWESOME!!!
Review 90:The beds were hard as a rock and we slept horrible
Review 91:Location to Edward Jones Stadium Beautiful decor and history Very friendly and professional staff Walking distance to downtown
Review 92:The bed in room 923 sounded like a bed at a mountain cabin.... crunchy and noisy. No...... we are not a young married couple who were canoodling all night! It crunches something awful just sitting down on it. Someone should check this out. When the maid changes the sheets, she would not hear this crunching sound because she is not sitting down or lying down on the bed. We investigated the sound, but neither the mattress or the "box springs" would make the sound separately. Only a person sitting or lying or changing position while sleeping makes the noise. I would suggest a maintenance person sit or lie down on the bed to see for himself/herself. Just pushing down on the mattress with one's hands isn't enough.
Review 93:The public rooms are lovely. the history is charming, I enjoyed exploring and loved the 'feel' of the place. Our small group of family & friends who were in St. Louis to bury a loved one was made to feel welcome. The kindness displayed by members of your staff seemed to be heartfelt and was much appreciated.
Review 94:History. Character. Extreme friendliness. Fitness club with indoor pool and basketball court. The staff treated me like a Member of the Club. I will stay at the Missouri Athletic Club every chance I get when I'm in St Louis.
Review 95:My biggest beef was the smoking allowed. With America's health issues find it very rude. Times change weather its trying to hold on to the past. This is one reason why I would not stay again which is too bad.
Review 96:Loved the location we were going to the Rams game. Staff were awesome and the inside was beautiful.
Review 97:If you are going to keep wood don't paint over it. Rooms smelled musty. Color dull. Heat controlled buy steam radiators. No view at all from the inside to the street. One ice machine which is located on the 8th floor. Lots of cigar smoking on the first floor. Service charge not tax added to restaurant charge which was not the tip.
Review 98:It was inspiring to see the quality of gothic wood throughout the club. Rooms were small without a bathtub. Difficult to step up to the bathroom. Not a real vanity but that was keeping in the theme of Gothic. If you want modern this is not your hotel. Staff was wonderful.
Review 99:The bed was squeaky just getting in and out of, and we could hear the man in the next room talking on the phone.
Review 100:I wasn't expecting the Missouri Athletic club to only have overnight rooms on 2 out of 9 floors, but it was awesome anyway! The staff was extremely friendly, they alone make me want to recommend MAC! The room was nothing special, but had a great view.
Review 101:Room was awful. Looked like an old, run down dorm room. Step up to a small ugly bathroom. All and all an experience I would never repeat. Stay away!!
Review 102:Lobby looked great. Staff was helpful
Review 103:Room was on the small, but well equipped.
Review 104:Beautiful lobby and great restaurant. Felt like a trip back to the 1930's, a real experience you don't get to see in today's hotel chains.
Review 105:Cigarette smoke was almost in every facility evident. Dress code is silly in my opinion.
Review 106:Location is ideal and parking is cheap for a city hotel. Staff is very nice and classy. Rooms are outdated but that seems to be the hotels theme.
Review 107:This hotel is geared toward business stays. We were on a Route66 motorcycle trip and would not have chosen this stopover for this occasion.
Review 108:Everything was good.
Review 109:Nothing. However, worth nothing the Club has a dress code so if you want to do more than use the room, shorts and other leisure attire not always acceptable but no one mentioned it again to us during our stay. It isn't obvious where to park overnight, but its the multi-story car park behind the hotel and the hotel validate parking.
Review 110:We had a great room in the Club, which even had a separate living area sofa tv sink etc (though we just booked a normal room). The Club had great leisure facilities, pool, fitness etc and well placed for the Arch. We ate in the restaurant and the service and food was excellent. Overall a great place to stay in St Louis.
Review 111:The extra fee for using the pool and the athletic facilities. The pull out bed was rock hard and not possible to sleep on.
Review 112:We were very close to the Edward jones dome which made it very convenient walking to and from the concert. Staff was very nice. Our room was very nice. Loved the king size bed. Room had a suite feel. Enjoyed eating at their restaurant. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 113:The room being located on the freeway side, the traffic and construction noise made it hard to sleep.
Review 114:Quiet, clean, welcoming atmosphere, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The boys liked the basketball court and athletic amenities.
Review 115:Pricey. No wifi password (which is extremely insecure). TV takes forever to navigate. The guide doesn't say what is on each channel, so you may as well not have one. Tiny shower. Nowhere to put the soap/shampoo/conditioner so it always ends up on the floor. Bathroom is yellow and so it feels dirty even when it's not. Bed has one of those useless "for decoration" pillows. (The useful pillows were good.)
Review 116:Location was good, and in a good area. Good view of the river. Classy (very little plastic). High ceilings. HBO HD and many HD channels. Good wifi speed. Great lighting!!! Awesome staff all-around. Custodial, restaurant servers, management, receptionists, etc. A+++
Review 117:Room clean and well maintained even if the building is quite old. Very well located on the way of many restaurants. Don't miss if you are a sport enthusiast because the facilities are top level with full equipped weight room, cardio area, swimming pool, basketball court...
Review 118:The problems we encountered were: 1. Our room was to small. 2. The bed was very uncomfortable.
Review 119:By far, the amenities was the hotels best feature. My husband and son, took full advantage of the state of the art gym, pool, basketball court and track. The hotel staff was pleasant and accommodating. The rustic hotel has an old school charm. We would stay again.
Review 120:Slight musty smell as older hotel but was clean
Review 121:Hotel was beautiful but old. Staff were polite and friendly. The room or rather rooms as it had a sitting room, were very spacious. It was near to Arch, the Laceledes for food and the casino hotels for breakfast at the top. Enjoyed!
Review 122:Small room, no refrigerator for my leftovers, and when I came looking for food after the baseball game, most everything in the hotel and nearby was closed.
Review 123:Location and staff were great, the athletic club is historic and the rooms reflected that.
Review 124:Closeness to everything we needed. A short walk to the Arch and to the Baseball stadium. 1 block to underground train. Very old hotel well maintained and comfortable. Staff were extremely helpful and courteous.
Review 125:Bed and room restroom facilities were ok.
Review 126:Jack Buck's Grill and Building architect was great. Staff and things to do amenities at location were better than most.
Review 127:This property is beautiful! It is a private club that recently has been open to the public. The property has deep, rich woods throughout the common areas. The staff is fantastic and so accommodating. We enjoyed everything about this hotel and would definitely return. The location has great access to Busch Stadium, the Arch, and everything downtown. We really loved it!
Review 128:I think it's silly to have to pay extra to use the parking garage and the pool... I'm not sure why parking isn't included for guests.
Review 129:The walk to and from the game was wonderful and not too long. The staff was quite pleasant. The lobby area is beautiful!
Review 130:The rooms are old-fashioned...but it fits the hotel style! So not really a bad point...
Review 131:The building and lobby looked great. The staff was very friendly and the parking was ok. At least at night, you have enough space out front to load/unload your car. Watch out for the dress-code...you will get a kind reminder :)
Review 132:Breakfast isn't included, you have to pay 9$ for parking in the neighboring garage.
Review 133:Comfy huge room with convenient beds! Nice atmosphere an a historic building! Easy to find the way! We had a good view from the 8th floor!
Review 134:I have NEVER had staff be so absolutely friendly!! Everyone was smiling and did everything to make sure we had a great experience. The room was better than I expected and that pool! WOW!! Its on the 5th floor! I just couldn't imagine how that came about. But honestly, the main entrance is gorgeous and the room was neat as a pin with more room than I expected, but its the staff that made this place great. We loved everything about MAC.
Review 135:Shower was small, but no worse than most European hotels. Given that theroom was a suite, who can complain?
Review 136:This is a real find. It is located in the center of everything, LacledeLanding, the Convention Center and Edward Jones Stadium, casino, etc. There's a free bus to Busch Stadium on game days. The ambiance isthat of a grand old hotel, which I found delightful. The staff wasincredibly friendly and helpful, and the price was quite reasonable fora downtown hotel. I ate twice in their Jack Buck restaurant and foundthe food and service to be excellent. The mac is an athletic club, andthere were fitness options available which I didn't take, but thestaff treated us as if we were valued members, not just hotel guests.
