Reviews for The Gateway Restaurant & Lodge
Review 1:The short drive to the park The salmon appetizer The 2 guys that sang at the bar The fireplace heater in the room The river Meeting J J Jackson
Review 2:The rooms were just adequate. Mattresses need to be replaced. The color palate -- brown -- was depressing.
Review 3:I loved the restaurant by the river. The staff was terrific.
Review 4:I came in weary and late and night and the manager upgraded me to a cabin with my own sauna in it for no extra charge simply because I asked. I had a beautiful view of a rushing river and an automatic fireplace that made for a very cozy and relaxing evening. The next morning the manager let me borrow chains for free because he knew I would not need to use them with my 4WD jeep (but your are required to have them in the national park in the winter). He simply trusted that I would be bring them back at the end of the day. The place is a few minutes from the entrance of the park and also has a nice restaurant and rustic bar. The atmosphere was friendly and personal and I will take that any day over a fancier hotel. I really appreciated the great customer service and the warm atmosphere.
Review 5:Booking.com overbooked the hotel and when we arrived our room was already taken. The owner upgraded us to a better room (lodge!) for same price! That was extremely nice, we regret staying only one night! Everything was very good there.
Review 6:We ate at the Gateway Restaurant several times and the food was excellent. The view from the restaurant overlooking the stream is fantastic. Also had a nice deck off our room overlooking the same stream. The staff were very friendly.
Review 7:The room was in very bad condition, with an ancient, loud AC unit, the wifi doesn't work, the food in the restaurant was poor, the room was not very secure, with the sliding doors broken. Bathroom falling to pieces. There is no reception, just bar staff. We were booked for 2 nights, but spent the first night fighting with the wifi for 4 hours trying to book somewhere else for the 2nd night! Avoid. Seriously. Don't go here.
Review 8:The location is good, but I would stay somewhere better and have a slightly longer drive! The staff were friendly enough I suppose.
Review 9:Our room was very small, though we had 5 people (2 adults, 3 kids). The price felt a bit steep for the space, I thought, especially on a Tuesday night; we also had drinks in the bar, again felt a bit expensive. But not overly so. We would probably stay there again.
Review 10:Location is fantastic, a mile or so from southern entrance of Sequoia; so about 40 mins from the good stuff. Three Rivers is a cute town. It has a good "lodge" feel to it, restaurant/bar overlooking a river that you can walk down to and see the ducks. The rooms are small but comfortable, would be fine for a couple.
Review 11:Almost everything was bad. Firstly, looks nothing like the photo. A bunch of wooden huts nexts to a car park next to a main road and certainly not in the heart of the Sequoia National Park. Wifi connected but didnt work. Cobwebs in the room. Sauna had to be operated using a nail. For this they charged us 200 a night...more than we paid for a suite in the Venetian in Vegas. This place was a disaster and I could go on and on.
Review 12:The bed.
Review 13:The location of this property can't be beat. It's just a few minutes from the south entrance of Sequoia National Park. It's also located right on the river which is accessible for guests through the property. We saw a bear across the river, cows, squirrels, ducks and trout. We spent much time down by the river. The room was very cozy. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Free wi-fi. I don't know if this is standard but in the morning, I went to the restaurant and asked if I could just get a cup of coffee and sit to take in the scenery. When I went to pay for my coffee, they said that the coffee was on the house as I was a guest of the hotel. Very nice. Upon check out, we proceeded into the park which was just a stone's throw from the hotel. The breakfast burritos were amazing!
Review 14:Room looked clean at first glance but carpet and bed-covers were dusty. My dust sensors kicked off and started itching and sneezing so had to get the anti-histamines out. Shower curtain was not clean, AC was noisy and the mattresses and pillows sagging and in dire need of replacement. Good thing it was only a one night stay. Plenty of other accommodation choices within 15 minute drive so on second thought the location was not really worth it.
Review 15:The only good I can give this is the location. That is all you'll be paying for.
Review 16:our room had overpowering glade plug-in, which we unplugged and placed on porch.
Review 17:location and restaurant overlooking the river. Very good menu for the middle of nowhere!
Review 18:Bed is so close to the toilet door you feel you are in it ! Poor Wifi No breakfast included
Review 19:Very close to the Park entrance Excellent choice of wines Great menu selection River side
Review 20:Well we were there on off season but the staff wasn't very helpful with questions about the area and events happening at the hotel. Which was surprising.
Review 21:Location next to the river is amazing and you are a very short drive to the gate of the Sequoia park. We thought the food was very good too.
Review 22:Dirty bathroom, no hot water, kitchen is delapitated, kitchen sink does not drain, in ground heater is a burn and fire hazard (we burnt our feet), poor wifi reception, poorly lit rooms
Review 23:Location, creek
Review 24:If the staff were a little friendlier, I would have given a better rating. Some people were very nice; a few servers and a man that was maybe the owner. But the woman in "charge" (also maybe the owner) and a couple of the waitresses, just seemed to be having a bad day. They were not pleasant, and seemed annoyed with our son. For the amount we spent on the room and the meals, I just think they could have been a little more respectful.
Review 25:Property was lovely. Very close to the Park entrance, which was convenient. Clean room, nice beds. Restaurant was nice and clean as well.
Review 26:Nothing!
Review 27:Access to the National Park is so easy. There aren't many other restaurants in Three Rivers and I doubt if any of them can match The Gateway for quality.
Review 28:Cabin was a little worn out - but was acceptable and cozy. A little small with no closet to hang clothes. Parking was on gravel.
Review 29:Very accommodating. Cheerful attitude. Relaxed atmosphere next to small creek. Very close to Sequoia Nat'l Park. Surprised with sauna in bathroom. Will go back. Nice restaurant.
Review 30:We never used the restaurant after hearing bad reviews , instead wefoubdy a place called Ol Buckaroo instead..amazing place. Basically justdown the road, there's a food van, and you sit outside. Lovelyorganic stuff, tastes great...and also the owners are nice. Ended updrinking with a couple of local people. It was an awesome night!
Review 31:The setting for the place is beautiful. The river runs right next to therestaurant! The rooms are really nicely furnished and very clean too.Excellent, and the closest place to the entrance to the national park(hence the price)
Review 32:Our tv didn't work, it looked snowy and simply had a bad picture. Our wifi also was very weak and slow. Maybe is the location that causes these inconveniences but other than that everything was great. I will come back and stay there again!
Review 33:I loved the location and the convenience of being close to sequoia national park. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant is very good. A little too expensive but good.
Review 34:The back door didn't lock. The table outside was dirty. The air conditioner rattled off and on all night. The refrigerator froze our food. It was too expensive for the accommodations.
Review 35:The restaurant and waiters were very good.
Review 36:We booked the place on the 20th of feb for a 4 night stay in August. When I made contact with the owner in July I was told they had us for 3 nights. I wrote back to clarify and got an email back confirming 4 night stay ok. When we arrived we were told we could only stay 3 nights. Desperate scrabble to find last minute place. Not nice
Review 37:The restaurant
Review 38:Cleaner kitchen/refrigerator and would like updated appliances
Review 39:Spacious 2 bedroom, great service, accommodating staff and owner, great location close to Sequoia National Park, great view from the deck,
Review 40:The TV wasn't working although that ended up to be a good thing. It forced us to read and talk to each other.
Review 41:The location of the hotel is great. It's very close to the entrance of National Park. It's nice that there's a restaurant on the premise. With young kids, it was convenient not to have to drive out especially after a long day of hiking.
Review 42:OVERALL: it was old, poorly cleaned (dead bugs still smashed on the ceiling of the bathroom, spider webs everywhere, refrigerator had brown standing water, metal grate in the middle of the hallway dangerous for children, the bathtub was so old that it was stained grey! (parts held together with a couple of metal clasps) You check in at the bar, the service was mixed--one super helpful, one angry and one dismissive. Very Expensive, very poor value for your money. I hope this saves another family from this experience.
Review 43:-the view from the mini patio was nice but was shared with the view of the back of a Restaurant/Bar (trash, unused items, piles of chairs). -Very close to the park
Review 44:location close to Yosemite Park gate is great but clearly note enough to justify all the shortcomings and disappointment regarding level of quality of service. Although Glen (the owner / manager) seemed a charming person, the quality of the rooms offered was poor ( iro space, equipments, cleaning) and overall all very expensive for what it is.
Review 45:When we wanted to check out in the morning, the restaurant was closed(so no breakfast and nowhere to leave the key). No one told us uponchecking in this would be the case, so we didn't know what to doexactly. We left the key in te room and send an e-mail. We got a replythat this was the right way to go.
Review 46:Wifi was good and the location just outside the park was excellent Alsothe restaurant with the hotel was fantastic! The tacita salad was thebest I've ever had!
Review 47:Too much expensive in relation to the facilities and type of structure. Also at the restaurant (nice position above a river), the prices are quite high
Review 48:Excellent position at the entrance of Sequoia NP
Review 49:An older facility that they have tried to update w/ linens & fixtures, but needs more attention to detail. Pillows were a bit small, the a/c filter was really dirty & the shower plumbing was interesting.
Review 50:We loved the location, just blocks from the entrance to Sequoia National Park.
Review 51:It could have used more cleaning in the balcony area and the Lodge Restaurant prices was a little to expensive for one meal.
Review 52:The Hotel was in a great location
Review 53:Bed and room were poorly maintained. Great for a rustic cabin experience.
Review 54:Location by river.
Review 55:Food prices were too high.
Review 56:We liked the most is location filled with natural beauty.
Review 57:The deck area is awsome, due to location otherwise it's a very std place
Review 58:Rooms were very dark and need updating.
Review 59:Great location just before entrance to Sequoia National Park. Pretty stream views at restaurant.
Review 60:Location
Review 61:Restaurant and location
Review 62:no access to river
Review 63:location to national park and food at restaurant was very good. a little pricey

Review 66:Location for sequoia park is excellent Restaurant is value Room is comfy
Review 67:Bed was pretty uncomfortable - maybe time for a pillow top mattress??
Review 68:Beautiful view from restaurant. Great staff - friendly very welcoming.
Review 69:Walls were way to thin and we had VERY noisy neighbors from 2am-4am =[
Review 70:We loved being so close to the Sequoia National Park, and having access to great food at the Gateway restaurant!
Review 71:+ Location + View from the restaurant
Review 72:Wifi is weak
Review 73:Love location and cozy restaurant
Review 74:Nice and cozy cabin!
Review 75:Family athmosphere of the lodge was great, perfect restaurant and friendly bar. Best accommodation in California
Review 76:Quarters were pretty tight.
Review 77:New furniture and great view from small deck. Liked the lawn chairs and swing and lrg. umbrella.
Review 78:Terrace for Dinnner, Food
Review 79:Nobody to help in case of problem outside of restaurant hours
Review 80:quiet place and ideally located at the entrance of the park
Review 81:Slow WiFi, over priced food, sub par staff.
Review 82:Relatively convenient location for a quick start at sequoia national park.
Review 83:The restaurant it's a nice view in back of the dinning area
Review 84:Very tired old decor.
Review 85:Fantastic spot overlooking the river.
Review 86:We had several problems with the facilities. One is that the bathrooms are the smallest we have ever seen in a hotel/motel. Another is that there was no smoke detector in the room. The biggest problem is the lack of phone service which is a big concern to a mature traveler. There was no phone in the room. The lodge is essentially a restaurant with seven units. The only phone was in the restaurant which was open from 11AM to 10PM. The desk was in the restaurant. There was no cell phone service. There would have been problems if one had a medical emergency outside of the restaurant hours.
Review 87:Location.
Review 88:Room close to the road, not possible to sleep... Room with not view at all of the river, but view of parking lot! Restaurant overprice No breakfast at all, restaurant open at 11 am... Very dangerous for kids due to the proximity to the road. We have to leave one day early because we were exhausted. The plan was 3 nights we stayed 2 and lost the money.... But worsted!!!!
Review 89:It was at the entrance of Sequoia Park
Review 90:Owners are far more interested, and busy, running the restaurant than a lodge. Must compete with restaurant crowd to check in to room. Room very small and cramped. Walls thin, so clearly heard the neighbors. Felt like a motel. No access to staff in the morning.
Review 91:restaurant is great. View from restaurant is amazing. Perfect location to explore Sequoia National Park.
Review 92:Lack of maintenance, part of bathroom cabinet fell off, dirty area around coffee stand (so we didn't use it), no breakfast at restaurant ( no warning or recommendation where to go), Internet was useless (would have been grand IF none at all because it is Wilderness area but thinking it was there was annoying ), nice to have screen door to hear water and skip using the air conditioner or can.
Review 93:Location Friendly people, helpful
Review 94:The facilities lacked general maintenance and were a little outdated and the young ladies who checked us in)took 30 minutes) was rude.
Review 95:Location to the park
Review 96:Room seemed and felt unclean. Bedspread had some white stuff on it. Carpet was dirty. Restaurant prices were too pricey for a family trip.
Review 97:Nice location by the River and Sequoia. Room was very nicely renovated.
Review 98:The staff was great. The owner Glenn was a terrific guy. The location was perfect, just outside Sequoia National Park. There was a beautiful river just outside the back door of the cute little cabin we stayed in. The restaurant and bar had awesome food and the deck overlooking the river was delightful. Would definitely go back.
Review 99:The restaurant was expensive and food was over cooked and had bad taste. I am not picky about food, but this was poor. Rooms were old and noisy.
Review 100:The river next to the hotel.
Review 101:There's no breakfast in the lodge, but a bakery 3 miles down the road.
Review 102:A perfect location, right at the entrance to Sequoia NP. The staff was very friendly. The restaurant is nice and the food is good. A very pleasant stay.
Review 103:Place was dated, but nice.
Review 104:Excellent location 1/4 mile from Sequoia National Park, right on a mountain stream. It is a older place but has charm and was very clean.
Review 105:Age and wear of room interior, furniture, and carpeting.
Review 106:Convenient to Sequoia National Park, very friendly staff, great river view, very good restaurant with nice wine selection.
Review 107:Super noisy AC. You can't possibly sleep with AC on. Broken shower. Smell from septic tank and garbage. Invoice was refused, receipt had to be enough.
Review 108:Restaurant deck above the river. Food is acceptable but overpriced.
Review 109:Beautifully decorated rooms, fantastic views.
Review 110:nobody available in the morning for checkout. Wi-Fi didn't connect properly.
Review 111:location, restaurant / bar, service, bathroom
Review 112:Nice host and right next to the Sequoia NP
Review 113:Don't go to the restaurant!!! We wait an hour for a burger and pasta. 20 more minutes more for the bill to come. Rude Waitress!
Review 114:Lodge needed repairs Restaurant food quality was poor
