Reviews for Posada Plaza Mayor

Review 1:impossible to sleep because is located in front of a restaurant , poor breakfast, wifi does not work inside the room, they charged me a daily rate (50% of a night rate) to have a late checkout (more 4 hours)

Review 2:to be guest of a hotel inside a historical building with all comfort of modern life

Review 3:The rooms in general are noisy. Though we've stayed in a superior room, we could heard people having breakfast upstairs.

Review 4:The patio of the Hotel is a very nice place to chill and the fact that is a very old construction well refurbished.

Review 5:Front desk tried to give us a cheaper room than we paid for. Hotel is dark.

Review 6:Location is the best thing about this hotel. Garden is charming. Rooms are simple, beds are adequate, bathrooms are simple but there is hot water available. Front desk is distracted and appears overwhelmed at the least. Or misleading and obstructive at worst, be careful, Breakfast is adequate.

Review 7:Very poor breakfast. Small rooms , thinly staffed. Ok for a night or two, but because of its age, the space throughout the hotel is too tight. Somehow lacked atmosphere and feeling

Review 8:excellent location, wonderful courtyard, sparkling bathroom

Review 9:Taxi from ferry to hotel complete rip off - extortionate charge for about 2 minute journey. They operate a cartel - so what can you do

Review 10:The old town great to walk round, range of restaurants to suit most tastes. The Drugstore had not only good food but real theatre to watch the food being prepared and served , plus live music .

Review 11:We were very happy with our stay -- can't really complain!

Review 12:Our room was really unique since we were in a 150 year old posada. Very interesting. The location was great. The breakfast was superb and served in a charming room that overlooked the ocean.

Review 13:Really potent air freshener to cover the mustiness bothered me eyes and throat so we requested it be turned off. The staff was courteous but for a hospitality business could not say they were very friendly.

Review 14:Beautifully kept little hotel in the heart of the historic district. The gates open onto an exquisite courtyard. Most of the room doors are off this courtyard as well with just a few on the second floor where breakfast is served (very nice breakfast).

Review 15:This posada is absolutely beautiful. Very friendly staff and clean environment. Breakfast was delicious. The interior patio was charming!!!!! Hope to be back soon!!!

Review 16:The breakfast buffet was very mediocre. Poor coffee. Bimbo bread and cheap pastries. There is home made bread available in the town.

Review 17:The location is perfect. The junior suite was gorgeous and the courtyard very pretty

Review 18:Great location in the center of the old city. Gorgeous area. Hotel is very old original Spanish and Portuguese architecture. Unfortunately it rained the two days we were there.

Review 19:We stayed only one night at this delightful period hotel but would have been happy to stay longer. It's located in the historic Old Town of Colonia, only a minute or so from the River. We had comfortable high ceilinged bedrooms with antique furniture and fittings. The staff were helpful amd the breakfast was really good.

Review 20:Very little not to like. Your room will be small, but just comes with the historic and original architecture.

Review 21:The Posada Plaza Mayor is a traditional stone courtyard building, with the majority of guestrooms on the ground level opening directly onto the most green, restful courtyard you can imagine. This was the prefect place to break my one week in Buenos Aries and my one week in Montevideo of seeing everything tourism and just kick back and enjoy. It is true you can "see" Colonia in just a few hours but let me recommend two nights in Posada Plaza Mayor to recharge and refresh.

Review 22:Internet in our room was not always accessible which was very frustrating. It was very efficient pretty much everywhere else.

Review 23:Location was great Room was spacious & comfortable Breakfast was adequate but plentiful

Review 24:Everything was beautiful but I would have liked access to the internet as I did not bring a laptop or Ipad.

Review 25:The staff were so friendly, polite and helpful. The garden was peaceful and beautifully kept. While having breakfast in a room that overlooked the sea, one could dream and eat at the same time. It was very convenient to have coffee in the breakfast room in the afternoon. It was so convenient to everything in the Old Town.

Review 26:There is a restaurant (and not the only one!) right in front of the hotel and they play live music very loud. They finish at 12 o'clock. Before this time it's impossible to sleep

Review 27:Very cozy and nice room, good breakfast but typical in Uruguay and Argentina (croissaunts, cheese, ham and cofee). Comfortable location right in the center of the city

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:The location is perfect, in the middle of the historical part of the city and a few block away of the harbour. Sunset are spectacular just round the corner.

Review 39:A little more English on the front desk would have helped

Review 40:Hotel itself. Location. Central courtyard great.

Review 41:Facilities were ok, not great

Review 42:Location, historic hotel, cute, price

Review 43:Noise from the street in my room.

Review 44:Ambiance and furniture.

Review 45:Improve pillows.

Review 46:Welcome air conditioning, both room and lounge area.

Review 47:Decor location courtyard. We're friendly and helpful staff. Will be staying there again

Review 48:Decor. Friendliness. Location

Review 49:Nothing really. One exception might be that there is only one public space for guest use. It is across courtyard and if you were with friends it was the only place to congregate otherwise it is your room or the garden. But that is a small criticism

Review 50:Location was perfect. Right off the plaza and excellent for exploring the historic part of Colonia. Charming inn with rooms overlooking a beautiful courtyard and garden with fountain. We were there in mid May and garden was still blooming. I definitely recommend this hotel

Review 51:A small point but there is no guard at the top of the stairs leading to the bedrooms. Going out in the dark one evening I almost stepped over the edge onto the floor below. A drop of about 4 foot.

Review 52:The courtyard is absolutely beautiful and fragrant with the smell of jasmine. Also the breakfast room is so nicely designed. It had a very central and convenient location.

Review 53:Breakfast unexceptional for the cost of the room; plumbing can be noisy.

Review 54:Excellent location; hotel rooms border central courtyard, which is a lovely place to sit.

Review 55:Price was probably fair but more than I was hoping to pay.

Review 56:Very helpful staff, excellent location in historic section of town and near many good restaurants.

Review 57:The hotel was lovely and our room looked out onto a little square with a fountain. Nice breakfast. Great location in centre of old town. Friendly staff.

Review 58:The lack of a dresser for our clothes (although there were no dressers in all of the hotels we stayed at in Uruguay and Buenas Aires).

Review 59:We liked the lovely setting--an historic building in the center of the old city. We enjoyed breakfast overlooking a grove of trees in which a score of parrots were cavorting.

Review 60:it was very noisy as there is a bar across the road.

Review 61:Loved the restored building which is true to its time. great location. One night is all you need to see the town

Review 62:Loved it all. Nothing to complain about.

Review 63:Fantastic location. Don't know what the other hotels are like butdon't need to know. This is everything you need...and more.

Review 64:Great location right on the square! Upstairs room has a terrific view over the courtyard and fountain. Comfortable and cosy room. Proximity to the old town enables walking everywhere. The breakfast room overlooking the river was charming.

Review 65:Posada Plaza Mayor is completely charming - from the warm, courteouswelcome to the beautiful interior courtyard to the well appointed roomsand complete breakfast. We recommend this historic posada to Coloniavisitors in any season. (We were there on one of the most inclement daysof the year and were cozy and comfortable.)

Review 66:Breakfast was really modest

Review 67:Charming building in the very center of Colonia. Beautiful garden with the fountain and old fashioned rooms. The place really gives an atmosphere of the town

Review 68:Room 11 had bad odor smelling of mold and cleaning chemicals. Madesleeping most uncomfortable. Beds were noisy and uncomfortable withdirty blanket and bed cover.

Review 69:Location. Staff responded to our request to change rooms to one we couldtolerate, but of course charged us higher room rate. Staff acknowledgedroom had poor circulation.

Review 70:Staff were a bit miserable and some noise from the breakfast room butvery minor compared to the plus points.

Review 71:Stunning location, beautifully maintained, old and charming. Veryromantic.

Review 72:- A little too much noise from some of the neigbouring restaurants

Review 73:- Very special hotel on historical grounds- Relaxing atmosphere and a uniquely designed inside garden - Closeness to all the major sites of the old town of Colonia del Sacramento - Nice and friendly staff who speak English

Review 74:Laundry was pricey. Other than that there is nothing negative about our stay! We would return any time we are in South America.

Review 75:Loved the location. Marcello was most accommodating. There were 4 of us (2 couples) with two rooms and both rooms were wonderful. We especially loved our room - 16. There was a thunder/lightning storm one night which we watched with the door and window open. The atmosphere was wonderful - relaxing and comfortable - highlighted by the central inviting courtyard and fountain.

Review 76:There was nothing we didn't like; it was perfect.

Review 77:The hotel is an oasis of peace in the centre of the Old Town of Colonia. We had a beautiful room that opened up directly onto the heavenly courtyard. Lots of flowers, a pretty fountain and comfortable sun chairs for lounging and relaxing. Very good breakfast. Staff very friendly, professional and helpful. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 78:Breakfast time was relatively short, and check out relatively early so with a late arrival we did not not get to enjoy it very much.

Review 79:Unbeatable location Polite and helpful staff (though not overly friendly) Comfortable room Lovely central courtyard with fountain
