Reviews for The Brookside Resort By FairBridge
Review 1:The bathroom was clean, but really needs to be updated. I appreciated the cleanliness, but everything about the bathroom screamed 1980's. The breakfast wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either. But the staff working that area were very welcoming.
Review 2:Staff was really nice and helpful. Our room was kind of rustic, really nice and very spacious. We didn't have a fireplace in our room, but I know that it was an option. The bed was comfy and we loved the creek out the back door (front and back entrance to the room, along with small kitchenette). Located near downtown, and the Alamo restaurant down the street had amazing food!
Review 3:No complaints at all.
Review 4:I loved the King Deluxe room that we had, the balcony was right of the river, the breakfast was great, and the trolley access really tied it in as a perfect stay. The rooms were spotless, the staff was informative and the overall feel was comfortable.
Review 5:They would give you excuses and not let you check in before 3pm and that is not right.. I run a housekeeping department and I now that the first rooms are ready about 1 hour after they start to work... please no nonesense and excuses they should be more helpful and sensitive if you have children... folks you charge enough... Ps the toilet did not work well at all... and the room needs to be updated a little. The room is showing signs that they need TLC.
Review 6:Location and the the water running in the back... the staff was friendly.
Review 7:Great room with a wonderful view and atmosphere. We liked it better than the Park Vista we stayed at later in the trip. Wish we would have booked the whole stay at Brookside. We will be back.
Review 8:The resort was very noisy. We heard every step upstairs and every car door slam. The fireplace looked as if it had never been cleaned. The tub drain was slow to drain and the mold in the bathroom tiles were disgusting. The resort is very outdated.
Review 9:The calming sound of the river at night was nice. The location wasn't bad.
Review 10:The higher charge because of booking through booking.com. and the fact booking.com said that offered breakfest for a higher charge. I declined breakfast during booking. Only to get to hotel and find out breakfast was FREE, (included with the stay)
Review 11:The hotel and stay weren't too bad. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 12:Extremely loud heating unit disrupted sleep all night. Wood staff provided for fireplace seemed damp and wouldn't keep fire burning. First room we had (but declined) had phone line with short in it and was right next to road.
Review 13:Good free hearty breakfast options, nice babbling brook outside window. Comfortable bed and room. Pleasant staff.
Review 14:Is time for a renovation!!!!!
Review 15:The location was great, the fire place and the balcony with the creek on the back. Rooms are spacious and clean, breakfast was also ok. The staff is excellent, nice and helpful, I will definitely recommend the hotel to a friend.
Review 16:Very nice room with fireplace and a view of the mountains. We go every year but this was our first stay at this place. It is the nicest one we have stayed at.
Review 17:This time is was not clean and the room and elevator smelled very musty and moldy. The staff was nice but the first day they didn't pick up out dirty towels and the second day we stayed gone until after 2:30 and the room had not been touched when we got back. The office this time was cluttered and smelled really strong. We love Brookside and we've got many good memories there but we were very disappointed this time.
Review 18:We've stayed here many times over the years. It has always been a great place and we loved it...however...
Review 19:False representation of room online!!!! Decor was extremely outdated!!!Hot tub was not in the living area as stated in pictures online, &it had not been cleaned...i bought bathroom cleaner but still didn'tuse it after I cleaned it because I was worried about germs...deadskin...it was disgusting!!!
Review 20:The brook outside the back door.
Review 21:Our room (307) smelled bad, like maybe housekeeping had been in there smoking just before we arrived, but our friends' (313) was fine. There is a strange bar/counter top that sticks out almost over the bed, making maneuvering in the middle of then night difficult. Breakfast was basically biscuits and gravy, which I skipped because of wheat allergy.
Review 22:The man at the front desk was very nice. Like the balconies and the location is off to the end of chaos and convenient to groceries, liquor, pizza, barbeque and breakfast. Nice to listen to a babbling brook all night. Elevator is very helpful and parking is a breeze.
Review 23:When we arrived I visited the bathroom. The toilet seat was not properly installed. It was loose and slide when used. The internet was out most of our stay. If we wanted to use the fireplace, we had to pay for logs.
Review 24:It was located not far from the places we wanted to visit.
Review 25:had booked a room for smoking but when got there they don't have smoking rooms but it was not there fault. it was booking.com this is the second time booking.com has done that to me. I will never book another room with then again.
Review 26:there was no climbing steps the elevator was right at are door. staff was very friendly and help full.
Review 27:Room service provided only towels. The sink nor toilet was cleaned and the room phone wasn't connected even thphgh I called office. Coffee pot was full when we arrived and was never emptied.
Review 28:We loved hearing the creek water!
Review 29:Had to request another room, first room smelled awful and as soon as I took 1 step inside I got hit with a cob web. The second room in their "deluxe side" was big enough but still smelled odd. The whole place just felt dirty.
Review 30:The creek view off the balcony was nice. Fireplace in room was neat.
Review 31:The facility was old, built like in the 1960's and had not been upgraded. When we turned the air condition on, it smelled moldy and musty. My husband has COPD and I was afraid it would make him sick. we bought lysol and febreeze at a local store and sprayed the unit and the room. The high ceilings made it hard to cool the room off.
Review 32:I did like that it was on the creek with a balcony. The location was good because it was not in the main traffic. the staff was very nice. the facility was very clean.
Review 33:We've been staying at this location for over 20 years and this time stayed four nights and sadly this will be our last. The condition of the building and accommodations has continued to deteriorate year after year. The cleaning service was terrible, bed made daily and trash taken out but that was it, bathroom was filthy when we arrived, such simple repairs that need to be completed to make the outside presentable again, so sad because we've had so many good memories here...
Review 34:Location is great, the stream is beautiful
Review 35:I love Brookside Resort, I have been staying there for years with my family. It's so relaxing and the sound of the stream puts you to sleep. The pool is great fun for the kids and adults. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Review 36:The wifi was touch and go.
Review 37:It was very homie and the staff was utterly amazing!! The room was spacious. The location was great! The creek was relaxing. We will be back!!
Review 38:Rooms need a little more attention, window ledges were dusty (previous guest left writing in the dust). Found a previous guests toy and water bottles under the bed.
Review 39:Location is perfect! Quiet and relaxing and still close enough to the attractions. Breakfast is good, maybe could offer scrambled eggs or some type of breakfast casserole.
Review 40:There were dirty towels left in the bathroom from previous visitor which tells me the bathroom floor was not swept or mopped after their departure.
Review 41:The room was beautiful and the pool was very nice. Not to terrible of a walk to downtown Gatlinburg.
Review 42:Still in need of some updates, the bathroom was older. It was clean, but had some stains and signs of wear and tear.
Review 43:I enjoyed the staff in the breakfast room, she was very friendly and helpful. The kids loved the pool area and playground. The creek on the backside was nice.
Review 44:The routine details need to be addressed. The pop machines were empty, the corners around the elevator had spiderwebs and dirt. The windows need cleaned. Most of this could be easily taken care of and probably will.
Review 45:The 3rd floor was a very large room with vaulted ceiling and a back door balcony overlooking a stream. Very relaxing, excellent. I can see the are working on updating. It's also off the main drag and the heavy traffic. 40 years ago this place would have been very grand.
Review 46:Hotel is dated. Would like better food with the breakfast bar.
Review 47:Staff was friendly and very helpful. Awesome pools. Very convienient to get downtown with the trams....Just wish they ran a little more frequently.
Review 48:carpet was very dirty lighting was to dim and ceiling had cobwebs.Understand they are updating.
Review 49:It was a large room and the facility was r good for our granddaughter. Quite
Review 50:The maid never entered the room. We used the same towels for 2 days. They advertised fireplaces, saunas, and kitchens in the rooms. We had none of those. Room was not clean
Review 51:The brook outside the balcony was very peaceful and relaxing . This was by far the best part of this motel
Review 52:The room was very dark and the floor wasn't the cleanest. One day our bed only had the comforter thrown back up over the bed. The fitted sheets were not even put back on where they came off the night before. The towels for the bathroom were just laid on our bed and the bathroom was not wiped down either.
Review 53:The pool area offered a great place to relax after a long day of hiking. The adults enjoyed the hot tub, while the kids loved the different slide options in the pool. It was located close enough to town where we could walk and not have to worry about getting in and out of traffic.
Review 54:The breakfast was absolutely horrible. The rooms were very dirty, our feet were black after working on the carpet even after I shower. The sheets kept coming off the bed and we requested that new sheets to put on and it was not done. We checked out and went to another hotel after the fourth day.
Review 55:The pool and Jacuzzi was awesome, this could be a great hotel with a lot of updates to the rooms, breakfast and better maid service....much better maid service. I don't think the maids clean the room at all while we were there.
Review 56:Rooms were very nice, but the beds had not been vacuumed under for a long time...we found lots of candy (nerds) under the bed that had been there for a while.
Review 57:It was very peaceful. The rooms were very large. Staff was wonderful and very helpful! Kids loved the pool! Good breakfast!
Review 58:The construction going on in the next room. Hearing the saw and hammering in the early morning.
Review 59:Awesome walking distance to Gatlinburg and place was clean.
Review 60:The room was dirty, the lamp had no light bulb. I asked for a light bulb on the first day and on day 4 we still didn't have a bulb. The beds squeaked so bad when you rolled over that it was impossible to get a good nights sleep. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone!
Review 61:Not to much to like, the pool was clean
Review 62:Housekeeping works really hard to keep this place clean but there is only so much you can do and at some point the rooms should be updated. I realize they are working on renovating the property but unfortunately we were placed in the older rooms so I can only comment on that. The beds were not comfortable, the doors needed repainting, and the balcony needs some pressure washing. Also carpets should be replaced. I'm sure they are aware of all of this and have plans to fix it. We did get a good rate on our rooms but next time I would pay a little extra for an upgraded room.
Review 63:The staff was nice and very accommodating. The pools were clean and lots of fun for the kids. The creek running behind the property was lovely and easily accessible. Great location.
Review 64:Elevator didn't work all the time. When asked not to have room service one day, they came in an emptied the trash and didn't replace the bag.
Review 65:Nice quiet hotel out of the hustle of Gatlinburg. Property had a lot of things to do including an Elvis impersonator one evening. Nice pools and beautiful being by the steam.
Review 66:We traveled to Gatlinburg for a wedding. The rooms were extremely big compared to most rooms as well as the bathrooms. The creek outside was the most peaceful sound I've heard in awhile. My kids age 8,6 and 1 loved the pools. We will definitely be going back.
Review 67:Room poorly cleaned. Had to ask for towels, toilet paper, empty waste can. Ask coffee, cups. Poor wifi.
Review 68:Location, friendly staff, pool, entertainment by pool. The brook.
Review 69:The tub would drain so slow that you would be standing in dirty waterand it took forever to drain down. The toilet bolts were so lose that Ithought the toilet was going to come up off the floor. The maid servicewas really bad. They never bought us any toilet paper so we had to go upthe street and buy some and they only bought 2 towels to our room forthe 5 days we stayed there and when I called the front desk to get newwash cloths, the guy told me it would be a hour before he could bringthem to our room because he was the only one working so I had to get myhusband to go get them (which wasn't a problem but still with 2adults and 1 child in the room for 5 days, you think they would bringmore then 2 towels for the whole week). There wasn't much of aselection on the breakfast either. The location was so far away for usto walk to downtown as well.
Review 70:The staff at the front desk was really nice and helpful and also likedthat there was one then one pool at the location. Playground was smallbut the area was well maintenance.
Review 71:WiFi not good! Shower a little dirty.
Review 72:Loved the resort! Enjoyed our stay. Huge room. Great breakfast every morning & the gal serving is very friendly!!
Review 73:The elevator was a little scary and the room smelled funny. A fork in the room would have been nice.
Review 74:I liked the high ceiling on the third floor. I loved the balcony by the brook and the sound of the river. It was on a trolley line to take us back up the hill. It has a great pool for little kids.
Review 75:Couldn't stay connected to WiFi over by our room.
Review 76:Locations was wonderful, pools were very nice. Creek outside our room was wonderful, and relaxing
Review 77:There where no light bulbs in any of the lamps and the telephone didn't work an it took a whole day to bring new bulbs and the bathroom ceiling was falling in
Review 78:The pool an creek
Review 79:l.Asked for 1st floor got 2nd flood back in the far back we have been here 4 times, we had two children with us and had to walk to the other side for the kids pool, trying to find a parking place to the ramp up to the second flood, ice machine was 20 doors down we wont be back sorry
Review 80:The place has not been updated for quite a while. Cobwebs in room and mold in bathroom. In bad need of tlc. It could be fixed up to be nice but has not.
Review 81:The room was not clean. There were beer cans on the floor when we got there and dirty towels hanging on the door. We still had to drive everywhere because it was not close enough to walk, especially with a young child.
Review 82:The pool was nice and we had a great view of the creek behind the hotel.
Review 83:We were there 4 nights and although house keeping was requested everyday, we only received it twice, even then, the bathroom was never cleaned our entire stay and clean towels weren't made available.
Review 84:Great location on the creek and close to downtown. Comfortable room & quiet.
Review 85:breakfast sucked... If there was one reason I wouldn't return this is it. It could be a lot cleaner
Review 86:Pool and location was amazing. River was awesome.
Review 87:FRIES IN A DRAWER.
Review 88:THE CONVENIENCE TO EVERYTHING. JUST HAD TO WALK UP THE HILL TO SEE THE PARADE AND COULD SIT ON FRONT PORCH TO SEE FIREWORKS, COULD SIT OUT BACK FOR PEACE AND QUITE. LOVED THE PLACE
Review 89:The dirty room, with unclean carpet and used beer can by the fireplace upon arrival; dirty bathroom floor and mold in the shower; no chairs on the balcony or for the steam bath; extremely dirty corridor area outside elevator; potholes, broken paving and crumbling wall in the parking lot.
Review 90:Nothing
Review 91:4 rooms in 4 nights. We had two in one day! They moved us to a renovated room that they brag about. That room smelled of fresh feces, the sink in the bathroom leaked everywhere and we had to shuttle cold water from the kitchenette to the bathtub because the shower didn't work at all and there was absolutely zero cold water.
Review 92:The view of the brook from our balcony. It's close to downtown without the noise and traffic.
Review 93:Rooms smelled of heavily sprayed room deodorizer. Room had crack in bathroom ceiling, paint peeling off walls. Staff seem shocked by this?? Please...place is very old.they did refund my money very quickly though...
Review 94:Nothing.
Review 95:Filthy hotel. Mattresses were very old, sheets do not fit well either. Spiders and bugs in all 4 rooms we were in. Refrigerators too small and frozen up. Dishes were dirty, coffee pot was dirty. Not all rooms have safes. Smoking is allowed at the pool with pregnant women, asthmatic guests, and all the small children... awful experience overall.
Review 96:The location was EXCELLENT. Loved the flowing creek out the back door. Housekeeping Mgr. Pattie was helpful but the hotel is filthy. Breakfast was okay. Everyone was friendly.
Review 97:The carpet very much needed a deep clean, we had to wear flip flops all the time to avoid very blackened feet. The bathroom needs an update.
Review 98:The pool was great! 8 year-old was thrilled with the two slides and the waterfall. It was never overcrowded and one end was shaded with large trees. The playground and Creek were also great.
Review 99:the rooms are a lil outdated, but other than that it was super nice
Review 100:The pools was clean, it had two waterslides & a waterfall going down into the pools. It also had a playground, basketball,& several other activities for children of all ages. The staff was super nice.
Review 101:There was a strong odor in the room that did not go away. The request for the 4 story building was not granted. The breakfast bar was not as good as years before. There was no comforter on the bed.
Review 102:We have stayed at the Brookside since 1987. We have always enjoyed our stay. This year was different. Although the pool has always been an attraction with our children and now grandchildren I don't think we will be back.
Review 103:Wifi and the ice machine never worked on my floor had too go too first floor need vent machine for snacks other then that nice I will be back
Review 104:I love this one lady that work there she was so nice she ask me each day how was my stay that it self tells a lot when you are on vacation I saw her a lot so I think she was the lead person I want to think her person keep up the good work sometime guest want too no that they are welcome
Review 105:The sheets did not fit the bed and the room had a bad odor.. We had to get some bug spray for the bugs in the room.
Review 106:The location was what I wanted and I loved that it was on the stream.
Review 107:Booked it for balcony on creek and balcony was not cleaned: food scraps, a sock, and bugs and spiders were there. Room was not as clean as should be either.
Review 108:Bed was comfortable and it was quiet until someone slammed door early in the morning. Liked refrig and microwave since have diet restrictions and cannot eat all the bread and gluten on breakfasts. Did not even go there.
Review 109:This place does not look like any photos we saw. It is much more run down and in desperate need of some serious renovation. This place looks like it is still stuck in 1975. Also, the refrigerator in our room did not work. Our cooler was much more sufficient then the poor old refrigerator. At night time, our building was very dark outside and it felt creepy to be walking around because of it. (Some of the other buildings looked much more lit.) the elevator in our building was terrifying to ride in as it made insane sounds and bumped around a lot. Overall not too bad of a place, but no even close to what we paid.
Review 110:i liked the whirlpool tub and the view from our balcony. The pools were okay, but needed to be skimmed and the water was cold (not the hotels fault on the water though).
Review 111:the wifi was virtually none existent which I was upset with however it made for a great time of low tec. trip we needed.
Review 112:we liked most every thing. the room was good. kids loved the pool and I loved the fact that they meet all my request with out any issues. the running river out back was great to fall asleep to!
Review 113:We booked this Hotel for 5 days on the third floor and the elevator went down on day one and they didn't get it fixed until the day we were leaving. Made for a long week of climbing stairs.
Review 114:Blood on mattress cover, maid didn't restock toilet paper nor try to clean up a bit, sheets wouldn't fit bed properly, carpet was so dirty your feet were black as you went to bathroom and back.
Review 115:Location was awesome and the pools were clean.
Review 116:A little outdated. We were in the creekside part. Possibly better on other side. Could have been a little cleaner. I would go back but try other side.
Review 117:We were next to the creek with private balcony and jacuzzi.
Review 118:Our tub was so new, the surface was very slippery, and I fell climbing it to take a shower the next morning. When I reported it to the desk clerk, she was very thorough in taking a written statement and asking if I was injured or needed to see medical personel. I only reported the accident to make sure someone else didn't have a worse one. The clerk summoned a workman, who promptly delivered and installed a rubber mat in the tub. I didn't like the fall, but it was refreshing to see the staff really had genuine concern for our welfare. Thanks, guys!
Review 119:The staff was very polite and helpful. My daughter and I were able to get the last room available on one of the most popular weekends in the spring. After reading some of the reviews online, we asked for a room without a fireplace and thanks to a cancellation, were amazed to get a great room, great view and a full kitchen included! It was one of the newly renovated ones. Even when the power was out in our section of town, we enjoyed sitting on the balcony, listening to the stream and having a nice glass of wine in the dark. Peaceful!
Review 120:Ive booked a suit which should be good according to the price BUT the carpet was dirty, it was sticky. The elevator was old and I almost stuck in the cabin. The AC was like a old diesel machine which provided me a huge noise during the sleep. The attitude of the reception was so unfriendly and the room service was terrible, they even forgot to clean my room one day. I told the reception they didnt clean the room and he said, ok I will check, and nothing happened. So I strongly dont recommande to book this hotel, it is terrible.
Review 121:nothing good
Review 122:Didn't have reservation made through Booking.com, charged me when I reserved and charged me again when we got there and they couldn't find the reservation.
Review 123:Location is perfect for trolley to town. River behind is lovely
Review 124:The only thing that I didn't like was the room had a smoky smell to it from the past guests using the fireplace that was in the room
Review 125:Very nice place.......very nice atmosphere ......tranquil by the river going through Gatlingburg.......when my family and I return this is where we will stay.
Review 126:The room we were first given had a bad odor and when turning on the heater, it smelled as though someone had urinated in/on it. I had to go to the staff and request another room.
Review 127:The running stream and the breakfast.
Review 128:Only thing that could be better was maid service. It was good but only came one time during our visit. Would have like to have had them come every day.
Review 129:Over all great place for the price and location. We would stay again.
Review 130:Roof had a water leak, missing a board in the porch railing, bed frame in the master bedroom was collapsed in the middle so the bed was concave. Washer and dryer switch was weird and didn't work when we pulled it out, but maintenance was quick to respond and was able to have the right touch right away, weird?!
Review 131:The kitchen, comfortable living room, free firewood, the view.
Review 132:Not enough variety and quality to breakfast. Needs updating (carpets were not very clean and gold pillow cases were weird) and no indoor pool/exercise facility
Review 133:Liked the balcony over looking the creek and the price.
Review 134:Room was not refreshed by staff while we were gone.
Review 135:Great balcony view. In room fireplace. Great proximity to downtown Gatlinburg. Nice roll away bed available. Loved the large size of the room.
Review 136:Found roaches in room our last night.hotel is not very clean, stayed here before with no problems, kids love it but will not stay here again
Review 137:Location is good within walking distance to gatlinburg.kids like the playground
Review 138:We had to be switched because the first room had a fridge that was so old it was squealing and missing a leg. We were switched to a different room, but were lucky if the housekeeper gave us new towels or took out the trash. We found french fries under the bed as well as a slim jim wrapper. The whirlpool bath did not work and you had to hold the switch for the bathroom vent to stay on. More of a campground than a resort.
Review 139:The location was within walking distance to downtown Gatlinburg. This area is a bit of a tourist trap, but was fun. The property overlooks a pretty stream.
Review 140:Our room was very large that overlooked the creek and had a large wood-burning ffireplace. Right before our trip it became necessary for me to have a handicap accessible room. We called the hotel and they were able to accommodate my needs, even making sure the location was suitable with us. We couldn't have asked for nicer people!
Review 141:excellent value, upgraded our room for free. Loved listening and watching the river run. Shuttle stop at office. If it had been warmer I would have slept with the window open to hear the river run all night.
