Reviews for The Cheshire

Review 1:No notice that the restaurant was closed. Bristo was a bit pricey. Biggest problem was Bristo not handicap accessible.

Review 2:Staff was excellent. Friendly and helpful.

Review 3:It's a little pricey for what you get. It's a nice hotel, but I've stayed at nicer hotels for less money.

Review 4:It's a nice, clean hotel with interesting history and easy access to adjacent bars/restaurants. The onsite parking in the garage below is convenient as well.

Review 5:Prices at the bar and restaurant were a little high. For the quality of the food/drink the dining experience is not a great value.

Review 6:Fun and unique atmosphere and cozy room

Review 7:The ambiance of this beautiful place outclasses everywhere! Plus, I love the location. Right near the interstate which takes you downtown + near the beautiful park. I've stayed in the Winter and in the Summer -- both seasons celebrated well at The Cheshire!

Review 8:Loved the British Literature Themed Rooms. Ours Was Ben Jonson, William Shakespeare's Contemporary. The Staff were engaging. The Breakfast was wonderful. Great Stay.

Review 9:Great location with a unique, more personal feel to the hotel. The room was very nice...parking was less so (the lot was being refinished). I would definitely stay there again.

Review 10:Parking policy not explained correctly on checkin, resulting in a surprise parking charge on checkout. Also, the bathroom has a motion sensor in it that you cannot disable to simply turn off the lights. The motion sensor was activated by the AC turning on and off, so the bathroom light went on/off all night, and the bathroom door has frosted glass, so it was very disrupted.

Review 11:Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Good shower. Interesting furniture.

Review 12:The decor and all the little details were awesome. To name just one small example, your room key comes with a bookmark with the name of the author your room is themed after. They had a little treat bag for our puppy, and the entire staff was really sweet to us and our dog. The hotel has three restaurants/bar areas (and a Starbucks). All three restaurant/bar spots looked awesome, but we unfortunately got there too late to eat at any of them.

Review 13:The WiFi did not work in our room on this visit. No problems with it on last visit

Review 14:Love the novelist theme rooms. Love that they allow dogs even though we have not taken ours.

Review 15:Glass plates on Light fixtures in hallway on 3rd Floor falling out of place. This tells me whomever is doing walking inspections is not keen to details.

Review 16:Great location. Front desk staff very personable

Review 17:The bar inside the hotel was fun, but the lady bartender was not very helpful to me. However, the gastro pub affiliated with the hotel was amazing and the pork belly was so good we spent a lot of time there.

Review 18:The complimentary croissants and other breakfast items were nice. Starbucks was on site for my much needed morning pick me up. The style of the hotel was impeccable and fun with a boutique feel.

Review 19:The room was dark, and rather noisy, and the window didn't close completely. Our room faced the busy four-lane road. We could at times hear guests next door or upstairs.

Review 20:Free wifi. Big TV.

Review 21:Our suite was very small and on the road, we requested to be moved to another room bc it was our wedding night and that was not accommodated to.

Review 22:Staff was really nice

Review 23:Very cool, very unique property. The multiple restaurants and a starbucks on site are very convenient, and one of the restaurants - Basso - may be one of the best experiences I've had.

Review 24:The only odd thing is that the bathroom light is motion-activated, which was slightly annoying during night trips to the bathroom when it would stay on or during long showers when it would turn off too soon.

Review 25:Staff had great recommendations and were able to answer all questions or look up answers. Lobby was a fun place to sit and relax.

Review 26:I had heard of the Cheshire for years but typically would stay downtown. This year we booked Basso for dinner and stayed at the hotel. The Cheshire has a fun bar just past the lobby as well as two restaurants across the parking lot. A free, delicious breakfast was ready in the morning. With no charge for wifi and one of the lesser costs for valet that I've seen, we will definitely be staying here more often!

Review 27:????Heater Fan noise. Can't control speed.

Review 28:Everyone shows a Sincere caring attitude. They engage you ... it's not just a job...they have a mission...they want to exceed your expectations! The hotel, staff and food did exactly that. I am sending my Mgmnt team to feel the experience.

Review 29:We did not like staying in the room with handicap shower as it is like a swamp. We did not request it.

Review 30:The oveall experience is always a pleasure as it much like a European Inn

Review 31:Soundproofing between rooms not very good. Could hear conversations and music next door. Also, I had read that the bed post stuck out too far. I laughed at that post…until I stubbed my toes a couple times in the middle of the night.

Review 32:The ambiance of an old English pub and hotel with a roaring fire was a nice change from standard hotels. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Loved the fish & chips and wings in the Fox & Hound

Review 33:The only complaint I have is the HOT WATER spigot in the breakfast/tea/coffee area really doesn't offer a good, steamy cup of tea....my husband is a kitchen designer and we both said that a hotel of this caliber really should have a proper hot water option...there are simple solutions in the market....that would be an easy fix and one we highly recommend. No lukewarm tea...:( Yes, a first-world problem, but for all us tea drinkers in the world, we say, "Please fix!" Other than that...everything was incredible.

Review 34:We were so glad our daughter found this hidden treasure. From the moment we walked in, the staff was kind, helpful, and easy to work with. Our toilet wasn't working when we first entered the room, but they responded promptly and offered to move us to another room. They explained the slight "chill" of the room was due to the stunning original stained glass windows. We turned up the heat, closed the sound-reducing curtains and were so comfortable. The lovely fireside living room area offered a beautiful space to meet and greet friends and family. The breakfast was yummy, too! This is our home away from home EVERY time we visit our daughter in St. Louis. AND, great location...right off the interstate and close in proximity to everywhere. OH...another bonus...you can see the ARCH from the parking lot. SUPER EXPERIENCE. P.S. Thanks for La Wanda for taking our family Christmas photo!!!! AND, for the Secret Santa who let us tour some of the really fantastic suites so next time we can stay in one of them!

Review 35:I loved everything about this hotel. The atmosphere was amazing. We stayed at the Cheshire because it was extremely close to the scottrade center! Let's go Blues!!

Review 36:All great

Review 37:Wow... Felt like staying in a castle in Older England, yet great updated facilities and yummy breakfast scones. Across the street from a world-class park on par with Central Park, ran it before breakfast.

Review 38:Dust on baseboards of bedroom. Dust on vent in bathroom, and hair on floor of bathroom on each side of the door.

Review 39:Love the environment. Great service Friendly and helpful staff

Review 40:HVAC was a bit Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde - cooled to a point, then the heat came on to warm it back up - endless cycle. Got fresh towels 2nd day, but none after that. Never got replacement drinking cups, ice bucket liners. False fire alarms must be common, no excitement or explanation one evening.

Review 41:Staff was great. Parking very good, better than expected. Basso wonderful. Breakfast very nice, better than most. Every staff person was engaging and outgoing.Decor was quirky, interesting - not a corporate cookie-cutter place at all.

Review 42:It would be nice to let guests know that they have access to a thermostat in their rooms. The AC was pretty noisy and if we'd realized we could turn it off at night, it would have made a few nights a lot better

Review 43:We loved everything! What a great hotel

Review 44:We dined at both "The Restaurant" and "Basso". Food rivals Chicago dining. We ate at both The Restaurant and Basso twice. We arrived at the hotel at 9:30 PM and we were grateful to be able to eat high quality, well prepared food at 10:15PM. Excellent service everywhere. The pool area was well kept - comfortable seating, adequate shade and fresh, clean towels. I will definitely book at the Cheshire the next time we are in St. Louis.

Review 45:The bed wasn't the best to have sex on since it made a lot of noise while in the act. Also the place didn't have the best sound proofing.

Review 46:The hotel had a them to it which made it kinda of neat. The room was comfortable as was the bed.

Review 47:I really don't think it's fair to be charged so much for parking in the main parking lot. The garage maybe but not the main level one. Also, a small fridge and microwave in the rooms would be good.

Review 48:Wonderful atmosphere. The pool/pool side experience was amazing! Everyone was very professional and nice! Beds were very comfortable!

Review 49:Had to pay for parking.

Review 50:King room was nicely furnished and the bathroom was recently redone With a walking-out shower All rooms are named after an English author. Hallway decore definitely has an old English feel. Complimentary breakfast is terrific.

Review 51:One of our rooms was without AC and they couldn't fix it the first day. It was extremely hot and they gave us a small fan. They claimed they would reimburse us but they didn't take it off our bill so we r still negotiating that. There were no extra rolls of toilet paper in the bathrooms so my daughter was stranded on the toilet seat for almost half an hour waiting for a new roll. They r supposed to have poolside bar service but we would wait for like 20 minutes then finally go in. She did get us drinks one of our 5 days there. I'm also not a big fan of the garage. The concept of driving on the wrong side of the road is cute but we were worried about getting hit.

Review 52:The theme was really cool. The pool area was amazing. We were three families traveling together and it was a nice spot to hang out together. The breakfast was nice for the adults but my son was not always pleased with it. The room themes are neat but ours had the wrong book. The location was great, 20 minutes from everything. The staff was very nice but all seemed very new.

Review 53:The bar staff/wait staff was slow and billed many people incorrectly. Front desk staff could've been more knowledgeable about what the hotel had to offer. If you're too new to know any details READ UP on your job or pass the phone along to other staff.

Review 54:Housekeeping was amazingly friendly, efficient and capable. The rooms were spotless, the bed and bedding delightful. The continental breakfast was delicious and on-site restaurants wonderful.

Review 55:Constant noises from what I can only assume are pipes in between floors made it hard to get a good night's sleep.

Review 56:Excellent decor - really felt like an old English manor house. Room was well furnished with flat screen TV and a large leather recliner.

Review 57:The staff went out of their way to ensure that I enjoyed my solo visit to St. Louis, recommending excellent places to go for dinner and live music, and even advising me about where I would be safe parking and walking alone at night. Not that I went out much, with the cozy pub on the premises that serves great food, a variety of common rooms on the first floor, the comfy poolside courtyard, and fabulous dining at the restaurant next door.

Review 58:Loved the ambience of the place! Kind of old school inside (lobby / bar) and attracts a mixture of people!

Review 59:Nothing there not to Tlike!

Review 60:Everything! It's gorgeous and comfortable, a real jewel of a place, especially if you love all things British!

Review 61:Have stayed here several times. Have never had any complaints with staff or facilities.

Review 62:Dirtiness of the room. Bad condition of the garage.

Review 63:Breakfast was good.

Review 64:Undusted, unvacuumed, slats on shutters greasy dirt, under tablesdust balls

Review 65:Location, room design, bed

Review 66:Nothing

Review 67:Everything she said her 43 birthday was best ever

Review 68:Bed wasn't very comfortable; front desk not very welcoming

Review 69:Overall facilities, ambience, location

Review 70:Tiny parking spots, stairways smelled of exhaust

Review 71:Comfortable beds, nice breakfast, quaint common areas, cool decor

Review 72:Location - need a car

Review 73:Friendly staff Great beds Unique

Review 74:Dirty corners of room and bathroom.

Review 75:Fireplace and furnishings.

Review 76:The front desk employees were so kind. I was there for a concert and they gave excellent advice about the venue.

Review 77:I can honestly say that The Cheshire is one of the most beautiful places.

Review 78:Very cold hallways and elevator $7 to park overnight - hidden charge

Review 79:Clean room - nice furniture and decor Fire places in lobby area

Review 80:Unique and British charm- loved that the rooms were all named after British authors, poets. great breakfast.

Review 81:Wonderful weekend. The ambiance reminded us of a trip recent trip to England. 5 stars all around!

Review 82:The HVAC system was noisy all night.

Review 83:Breakfast

Review 84:Hair in corner of bathroom by tub, black long hair on pillow (mine is blond), and evening room service.

Review 85:Location, convenience, staff, décor.

Review 86:Iloved the themed rooms and the decor throughout the hotel. The pub was cozy and a great wind down.

Review 87:Room could have been a little cleaner.

Review 88:Very comfortable & spacious room. Great staff. I loved having a bar & restaurants so close.

Review 89:Love the decor and the staff. Awesome location

Review 90:Bathroom a bit cramped (extremely small sink)

Review 91:The beds

Review 92:Loved the English feel and the pub downstairs is excellent.

Review 93:Decor, breakfasts, USA Today

Review 94:We arrived at 3PM and there was no coffee or tea available and wait time for refill was excessive

Review 95:Decorations and style of hotel

Review 96:Very comfortable room

Review 97:Fun place for those who appreciate an anachronistic, Harry Potter-esque feel. Conveniently located near Wash U and Forest Park.

Review 98:My girlfriend and I has a wonderful time at The Cheshire! What a gorgeous hotel! It was a fantastic experience and we will definitely be back!!

Review 99:The bathtub's bottom was kind of peeling away and the furnishings were a little dusty. Did not really bother me at all, though, to the excellent service and design of hotel

Review 100:Free, fast wifi. Lovely furnishings in hotel and room. Lovely pool area where the bartender is always there to assist you. Would highly recommend staying here for a long weekend

Review 101:I didn't like the fact that Booking.com showed we were reserving a larger room than we were actually getting in the booking confirmation. Very misleading on Booking.com's part.

Review 102:Andrew and the staff are just phenomenal. The entire hotel was great... room, pool, restaurant, etc. etc. We will definitely be back.

Review 103:Weird light in the bathroom doesn't go off and because there's a frosted glass door on it, the room wasn't completely dark. We put a towel over the top part of the door and that helped a bit. Heard others talking at breakfast about it so it wasn't a feature of just our room. Hotel could have used a bit of dusting in the public area. But that sure wouldn't stop me from staying here. This place was awesome and we'll be back!

Review 104:Where to start? Having chosen the hotel blindly thru booking.com we were pleasantly surprised at our experience with the Cheshire. We entered the breathtaking foyer and emitted a gasp of pleasure upon seeing the antique yet metrofabulous décor of this exciting and fun little gem of an hotel. We were greeted by the sparkle-eyed staff who you could tell loved the place as much as we did. To say the staff was attentive and genial would be an understatement. Whether we were greeted by Xavier or Darrel (the amazing valets), or needed some clarification from Easton at the front desk or a menu recommendation from Jane in the restaurant, it felt like we were being cared for by cool, hip, fun-loving friends. Our room was so fun! It was the John Keats room with all references to his famous Poem “Ode to a Grecian Urn”. Gorgeous accommodations! There was something really special about the place and I couldn’t put my finger on it until I met the manager, the awesome and amazing Andrew. Here was someone who genuinely cared if you were enjoying your stay and wanted to do whatever it took to make it a memorable visit. You could tell he loved the hotel. He is the jewel in the crown and the Cheshire owners are very lucky to have him! It was obvious the staff loved him too! We will definitely be back to the Cheshire because of the incredible service. Thanks Guys!

Review 105:The room and bathroom was very small for the price, and the lobby on our floor and our bathroom floor were very dirty - more on a Motel 6 level. We were there nearly a week and the lobby wasn't swept and trash/boxes were left piled out in the lobby until Friday. Our bathroom wasn't swept when we arrived, nor the entire time we were there. Also the bedding had stains. No one ever asked if we needed anything or how we liked the accommodations. Part of our family stayed in another hotel - their room was a very nice suite, clean and comfortable - their cost for the entire week was what I paid for one night. For the price, I expected much better service, accommodations, and cleanliness. Also, we had two rooms and the lights didn't work in one bathroom (they were supposed to be sensor lights), the sensor didn't work and the switch was hidden behind the towels on the back wall and one of the lamp lights were burnt out in the corner.

Review 106:I liked the decorations/theme of hotel and the ratings were good - that's why I booked it - also because it had an outdoor pool. The pool isn't large, but neither is the hotel. The beds were comfortable. I took it to be for the discerning customer who likes a quiet get-away. It is close to nice attractions like the zoo, museums, and the park.

Review 107:While the staff was very nice and the ambience charming the room was not clean, there was hair in my bed! The night manager changed sheets but we did not even get an apology the next morning The bathroom was small, outdated and dirty

Review 108:Paying to park, first time we have had to pay for outside parking. Not enough light in the room. Bathroom did have enough light.

Review 109:Location, breakfast, sitting outside to eat breakfast.

Review 110:Spent 3 days there and never did get housekeeping to make up our room. Even after several calls to front desk. The first room they tried it give us had a broken lock, we couldn't enter , so we were given a second room that smelled of vomit. Finally moved into a nicer, larger room. That some staff was friendly and tried to help should be noted except thing s kept going wrong. We would not go back

Review 111:Location, easy access

Review 112:There was a false alarm fire at 6am on memorial day. Then took breakfast down 30 min early. All the comments I read before about the pain in the shins due to the bed frames are true. Just put an article of bright clothing on it.

Review 113:I had a dog with me. I was very nervous. Ur staff made me feel calm and so welcomed. Pet friendly is a very true statement. Wow hospitality !!!

Review 114:We loved the ambiance. The assortment of teas was wonderful. The outdoor patio, very relaxing. The overall homey atmosphere was very pleasing. We liked that it wasn't an enormous, impersonal large hotel chain.

Review 115:Only two elevators in the hotel. Only one worked. There are no plans to fix this problem until the fall time. The only working elevator was extremely slow and you had to factor in additional five minutes or so just to get up or down to your floor. The overall experience was nothing special. It was ok The hotel felt dusty and smelled musty.

Review 116:The staff was friendly. The gym provided everything that a traveler could want. Self parking was convenient. It was located in the basement of the building. Continental breakfast was fine.

Review 117:A few rooms (above kitchen) are affected by kitchen-equipment noises. Breakfast arrangements could be improved. Too many food options are crowded into the short wall end, meaning space is severely limited and guests are forced to queue.

Review 118:Rooms well-appointed. Choice of eating venues - commendable. Ye-olde-world ambience - top-class

Review 119:The bartender asked us to keep our voices down because there were rooms above bar but we weren't even being loud. Never heard of whispering in a bar

Review 120:The entire staff for the most part

Review 121:The restaurant on-site was excellent, beds were comfortable, staff was friendly. Great location by Forest Park. We were in town to attend a Cardinals game, so we left our car at the hotel, walked a mile to the MetroLink station and took the light rail to the stadium. Worked out perfectly, much less of a hassle than dealing with the commotion down town. Also, the morning breakfast was much better that what you'd find at a comparably-priced chain hotel.

Review 122:The staff were brilliant. We could not hope for more hospitable hosts. Justin and Ben should be commended on their impecable service and were welcoming and friendly and made our stay special. My son is travelling to the US to attend college and we will certainly stay there again. The restaurant was excellent - the service and food was impecable.

Review 123:The continental breakfast was hard to access because of narrow space. They ran out of the breakfast eggs, had only one jelly, the muffins were on the stale side and no plates and this was at 8:30AM. The staff tried to catch up but the breakfast was not good. The towels were a little used and abused as well.

Review 124:The staff was courteous and always helpful. The Restaurant was a great place to dine and the staff there was friendly. The valet service/bellmen were prompt and all the men were pleasant and friendly as well. For the cost it was very good and we will stay there again while in St Louis.
