Reviews for Hershey Farm Inn
Review 1:Our room was in front of the laundry room and people put they clothes to wash and starting talking louder at our door.
Review 2:We love the restaurant breakfast.
Review 3:I loved the country style attitude, cheerful and friendly. But most of all. we loved the restaurant. I can't remember when was the last time I had a home cooked meal so good!!
Review 4:The hotel could have been cleaner, but it was good overall. Maybe you could add slippers, as it's better that your feet don't touch the ground.
Review 5:Feeding the goats was the best experience for the children! It was fun. Also, the breakfast was excellent!
Review 6:It was wonderful having breakfast included. We were happily surprised when all four of us were able to enjoy the buffet, since we thought we were getting a continental breakfast!
Review 7:Our room was cozy and clean. The breakfast included was awesome. The staff were accommodating to our needs. We will stay here again when visiting the Amish Country.
Review 8:The commode didn't flush well!. The bathroom fan/light was entirely too noisy & we couldn't have it on very long! The room was dusty! We didn't know we would have a second class room for a first class cost! in the Carriage House; wasn't informed about that!! Won't recommend it to anyone coming that way; and we won't be back!
Review 9:Only that It was near the Sight and Sound Theatre. The breakfast was great; but couldn't start until 8am; kinda late if you're traveling!
Review 10:I did not have a bad experience. Nevertheless, the room was short on amenities. We had to ask for towels. The toilet was the same size as found in schools for kindergarden aged children. This is very hard on older people. There were two mirrors, but one was very close to a bed so it was not actually available for each of us.
Review 11:Convenient to Sight and Sound.
Review 12:the benefits included in the price of the room really made it affordable for me to treat my son, daughter in law and two grandsons to a wonderful trip as their Christmas present. Thank you.
Review 13:My booking.com confirmation stated 2 adults and 2 children, however, my reservation stated 2 adults only. Will probably contact hotel directly next time
Review 14:We have stayed here several times. The facilities and restaurant are excellent
Review 15:That the restaurant was closed on Mondays. The continental breakfast was ok. Not nearly as good as the restaurant.
Review 16:We love to visit Strasburg & the surrounding areas. The Hershey Farm Hotel was nice. But I've been coming there for over 20 years. We will continue to stay here again. But you have to book ahead because the hotel usually is booked.
Review 17:Room not carpeted, kind of cold. Put off by housekeeper envelope soliciting tip. Free WiFi was unsecured. Dinner buffet was pricey and not of the same quality as the breakfast buffet.
Review 18:Huge breakfast buffet included, great value. Very comfy beds, in room adjustable thermostat, coffee, frig, microwave in room, very handy.
Review 19:Toilet never worked right..chair was so old and broke..could not even sit in it.Price was what too high for the condition of the room.
Review 20:Location and restaurant was fablous
Review 21:Fan + light in the bathroom - prefer them separate so we don't have to listen to the fan noise just to take a bath. And, in a motel, the window overlooks a walkway, so the blinds HAVE to be closed for privacy--no way to fix that.
Review 22:Love the smorgasbord breakfast (included!) and dinner, and the beautiful grounds -- gift shops, goats, chickens, pond, geese... The rooms were updated and were FAR nicer than I expect for a motel. Floors were wood/laminate, not carpet, bathroom floors were beautiful tile, there was a HUGE TV, a clever closet for a fridge, Keurig (with 2 cups!), and microwave. Great value.
Review 23:We missed the dinner. The restaurant was claused at 8.00 pm. The Wifi did not work for several hours.
Review 24:Good location to visit the Amish country. Great breakfast in the restaurant with local specialities and they cook you eggs as you like.
Review 25:The price per night was higher than many other hotels in the area.
Review 26:Location was perfect for why we chose to stay there. The grounds are lovely. The breakfast buffet that was included was excellent.
Review 27:The beautiful scenery and superb free breakfast buffet were just as advertised! Also the check-in/check-out was handled smoothly by the lovely Christine! All in all it was a simply perfect stay!
Review 28:If you need it be sure to ask for a room with a shower grab bar .. some rooms have them and some don't. Be careful when showering, the water can get very hot .. not scalding but perhaps hotter than you might be used to .. guests with small children take note.
Review 29:Included breakfast buffet was good. Overall a very nice and reasonable facility. A flock of very pushy geese is included in the price .. that is a joke, but be prepared to be very popular if you have a bag of feed (sold in gift shoo) in you hand :-) Reserve some time to visit downtown Lancaster proper.
Review 30:Could have had more towels in room, water temperature hard to control in shower.
Review 31:Beautiful setting, close to Sight & Sound, great food in restaurant, nice waitresses.
Review 32:The only thing I would say about the room, and this is not a big thing. There was one very comfortable chair and I would have liked to have two.
Review 33:I love the location, it is perfect to other sites. We had free breakfast which is wonderful. Everything was clean and everyone was very helpful and pleasant. I enjoyed walking around the grounds.
Review 34:The room was only so-so and too expensive. Bathroom small; the coffee maker wouldn't work; décor and furnishings were worn and dated; no inside chain lock on the door; buffet at the restaurant was awful.
Review 35:The proximity to the show at Sight and Sound
Review 36:Room was small and our door opened to the parking lot with lots of noise.
Review 37:The property was beautiful, walking distance to Sight and Sounds, the breakfast was amazing
Review 38:The woman who checked us in wasn't friendly at all. Seemed like she didn't want to be there. The guy who checked us out was much better.
Review 39:It was very quiet. Pool was nice.
Review 40:The room felt damp even with the air conditioner going.
Review 41:Excellent location if you are going to Sight and Sound. Nothing is closer. Love the buffet breakfast.
Review 42:The staff is fantastic and friendly, the rooms are beautiful and very clean. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Plus the free breakfast is a perfect start to a perfect stay!!!
Review 43:Friendly staff, Helpful with touring ideas, nice lobby area to sit and relax, WONDERFUL breakfast buffet in the restaurant. Great area to walk and good little shopping area to spend some time. We will be back and we're bringing our friends.
Review 44:I would want to stay in the main lodge or the farm house next time. The carriage house that we stayed in was very clean, but as I am claustrophobic, it was rather dark and small. The back rooms of the carriage house is more appealing as it has a nice porch on the back side that one can sit in chairs.
Review 45:The location was lovely and convenient - away from the hustle and bustle.
Review 46:The bathroom looked like it was straight out of 1980. The floors in my room were filthy, to the point our bare feet were dark brown on the bottom from walking on the floor. Payed 160.00 dollars for the room, was not worth that at all. They need to remodel the bathroom at least. Also, linens on the bed were not all clean. Found several black hairs from previous people in the room. I told the front desk these issues,he kinda blew me off saying this never happens and this is not usual. Very unprofessional in my opinion. Did nothing to rectify the problem. He wanted to give me a bag of food to feed their animals. I politely declined.
Review 47:The pool area was nice. The grounds were well kept. Also, have a few animals on premise to feed.
Review 48:Awful breakfast. Turned out that on Mondays the restaurant is closed. Not stated on booking.com website.
Review 49:Nice pastoral view from room. Quiet area, but in summer, with pool that probably vanishes.
Review 50:It really wasn't a bad experience, but I'm not sure if the Farm was completely open or not. If it were, it didn't have handicap facilities, and that was not a good thing for us.
Review 51:The friendliness of staff and the location as we were their to attend a performance of Sight and Sound Theater, adjacent to this property.
Review 52:We couldn't stay a second day!
Review 53:Ryan at the front desk when we came in,was EXTREMELY helpful! Very considerate and conscientious. We had a blind person with us as well as a handicapped older person. Ryan was wonderful in helping us!
Review 54:Very small bathroom and unusually small and low to the floor toilet
Review 55:Great location, friendly staff, awesome breakfast included. Most comfortable bed I've ever slept while away from home.
Review 56:It was all right. The hotel staff was polite and professional--not the warm type at all, and the restaurant staff was the same. Housekeeping staff start working at 8:30 a.m., which is very early in my book, I can hear them at the other end of the hall and they knocked on my door at 9:30. Not a bad thing, but I'll make sure to use the "Privacy Please" card if I ever stay there again, and I would stay there again.
Review 57:The hotel was very close to everything and it's great that a full, hot breakfast with lots and lots of choices that was included in room rate. Also, it's right next to Sight and Sound Theater, you can simply walk up a very slight hill. As I drove around (all the restaurants and shopping is on Rt 30, which is about 2 miles up the street), the Hershey Farm Inn seemed like the nicest hotel in the area, all the other hotels looked like truck stops, I would not stay at any of them. The restaurant's chicken pot pie was delicious! It came in a "pot" of hollowed out pumpernickel bread, with chunks of chicken and homemade doughy noddles it really hit the spot--I highly recommend it!
Review 58:Seemed a little miffed that they had to stay open until we got there. The restaurant was closed the next morning so no breakfast there. Also an alarm went off early in the a.m. and woke us. All in all not great
Review 59:The room and bathroom was updated, but the bathroom update was a little sloppy. We had had a "deluxe double" for +$20, and we thought it was a little small to call itself deluxe.
Review 60:We LOVE their restaurant, and that breakfast and dinner are a short walk across the parking lot for amazing Pennsylvania Dutch food. Great gift shop next door. Room we were in was updated. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Review 61:I can honestly say that there was nothing that I did not like! Thank You!
Review 62:Convenience. Sight and Sound theater next door and everything of interest a hop, skip and a jump away!
Review 63:Convenient stay for our visit to Sight and Sound. Clean comfortable room. Excellent complimentary breakfast. Evening meal at restaurant was superb also.
Review 64:The front desk closed at 6pm and opened back up the next morning. However, I think this was because we came to Lancaster during the off season. I also was uncomfortable on the bed. I felt it was very firm.
Review 65:The staff was always friendly and helpful. Also, this hotel was the cleanest place I have ever stayed. I would definitely come back again.
Review 66:No black out curtains - light was streaming in from the porch. We put pillows in the window to try to block out some of the light, but didn't sleep well as a result. Also, while many people may like fragrant sheets, due to allergies you may want to consider using unscented laundry detergent. That contributed to a rough night of sleep.
Review 67:Great breakfast included with the room rate. Comfortable large room, wonderful location for attending Sight and Sound performances.
Review 68:the sink was clogged the water didn't go down. also, there was NO SPACE to put down bags to lay out clothes no closet or dresser or anything and it's a shame since room has space for it so it's very inconvinient, bathroom very tight
Review 69:location, free breakfast, room was ok,
Review 70:The water in the shower was difficult to control. Very HOT or Cold. The bathroom was a little small.
Review 71:Good location. Breakfast buffet was great. Staff very helpful. I would stay here again.
Review 72:My husband has sleep Ap. and need a place to plug his machine in. We had to go buy an ext. cord so he could use his machine.. There were not many outlets to plug in phones etc.. The heater in the room was very noisey, but were able to deal with it...
Review 73:Our room was on the first floor. It was very easy to get to... We had a wonderful full breakfast buffet every morning that was included in the room rate.. it was in a great location so we were able to drive to everything we wanted to see.. We would stay there again...
Review 74:The location to all area sights was excellent. We came to see The Sight and Sound Theater and were pleased to walk to and from the show. Loved the Amish sights and the Antique Shops as well as the gift shop and restaurant on the premises.
Review 75:they gave us an air mattress that did not stay inflated. The toliet broke in the middle of the night and they said they would have a manage call us when she got in and she never called.
Review 76:I did not like the fact that we had ants in our bathroom crawling all over the toilet and wall. YUK! We stayed in the red rooms over near the barn and our wifi did not work well.
Review 77:We were traveling with my son's family (2A, 1 two year old). It was a nice place for a little one to run around and burn off some extra energy!
Review 78:Our room was very dark even with all the lights on. The bathroom was tiny. There was only one chair in the room and no table/desk. There was no elevator in the building where we stayed.
Review 79:The grounds and pretty and the restaurant had delicious food. Our room was large.
Review 80:I enjoyed my visit to Hersey Farm. The restaurant is very good. We had both the breakfast and dinner buffets and enjoyed them very much. Nice location.
Review 81:Rooms need a serious updating..room smelled upon opening door...no comfortable chairs to relax in. Gold walls red accent wall with bright blue drapes WHAT a NIGHTMARE. Over priced..& buffet wasn't much better..Will never return there....
Review 82:Location was perfect
Review 83:One guest ( not in our party)was disappointed there was no elevator. It is not a brand new place, so I understand.
Review 84:Location was excellent. Away from. The busy I terstate, yet near to everything. Very clean with all the amenities. Coffee maker and refrigerator in room. Good wifi. Desk helpful. They stored our ice pack for our return trip. Breakfast buffet in nearby restaurant. Many many good choices. A great chef prepared omelettes servers super.
Review 85:The bathroom and vanity area were small and there was no iron in the room.
Review 86:The grounds were beautiful and the staff was welcoming. The room was a nice size, clean, and comfortable. Nice large tv! Location was very close to Lancaster attractions.
Review 87:Breakfast nog at the restaurant Restaurant is closed on Monday butnobody mentioned it to us. Help at the front desk was not so nice Badtea water, taste line swimming pool
Review 88:Restaurant Nice rooms Good wifi In the middle of the Amish country Nearthe best railroad museum
Review 89:Didn't get the rooms I requested and the room lighting is too dark. The Blinds are OK, I just don't like to much sun shining in through Blinds and curtains! Would like to have seen the comedy show, but didn't find out about it till it was too late. I wish Ryan at check in would have told us at that time.
Review 90:The view the location, the staff, Brooke our server! The friendliness of the staff! The breakfast and dinners were awesome and hot and fresh!
Review 91:Had a reservation for a Deluxe room, king size bed, with a balcony and view of pool. This was spelled out on the reservation paper work three months in advance. When we got there there were no such rooms available and staff complained that they are not told ahead of time of what the reservation called out.
Review 92:Lighting was poor in the room for applying make-up, etc.
Review 93:The grounds were beautiful, the food was excellent, the store very reasonably priced and all in all, the atmosphere created an overall relaxed experience.
Review 94:The floor was not clean and the rooms were damp. They did send someone to redo the floors. The price was good and I would stay there again
Review 95:The gift shop was very nice and had a lot of gifts to select from. The view was very nice as well. The breakfast buffet was awesome.
Review 96:Staff was not very helpful. Several times did not even answer the phone or return calls at the front desk.
Review 97:great food and voucher for the buffet breakfast next door, great amenities, close to all. As long as you dont need the front desk, you should stay here.
Review 98:Paid for a balcony pool view room when I checked in they told me that room was no longer available and they put me in a "garden view" room which faced a parking lot. Asked to speak to a manager several times and every time I was told no managers were on site to speak to. The staff was not friendly - when entering the lobby the person at front desk would not even acknowledge us. Small rooms with very small bathrooms. Vending machines did not work. Walls are paper thin, could hear kids yelling in the room next to us - woke us up several times during night.
Review 99:The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, centralized to all attractions in the area. Breakfast was not bad for a buffet. Nice outdoor pool.
Review 100:The smorgasbord could use some work. The selections at breakfast buffet were either burned or undercooked. The eggs had an underlying butter flavor. The dinner buffet needs better selections and fresher foods as well especially for its price. Kids eat free for breakfast and lunch but not dinner? We only ate dinner there one night. Wasn't impressed.
Review 101:The grounds are beautiful and immaculate. The property is quiet even though your a main road. The children enjoyed the pool and two play areas.
Review 102:Bathroom pretty small. Wish there had been two comfy chairs instead of just one. Wifi signal not very strong. While at the restaurant, had to step outside to get iPhone to work and then only had 2 bars.
Review 103:Great location. Room clean. Bed comfortable. Great free breakfast bar. Beautiful flowers. Nice gift shop. Prices reasonable. Cute goats and chickens. Person at front desk helpful. Hope to stay there next summer but would like to stay in one of the other buildings other than the inn. On our first visit a few years ago, stayed in the Carriage house.
Review 104:The Clorox smell in the sheets was really strong. I suppose you have a problem with mold in some of your buildings. My socks got very dirty as I walked around in our room. There was not enough light for two people to read at the same time.
Review 105:The farm was neat. I liked the walking trails and flowers, restaurant, the closeness to Sight and Sound. I would come again if I were coming to sight and sound.
Review 106:The room was very dark. Even with lights on you could not see very well. The room needed updating. Bathroom also needs to be renovated especially when charging $179 a night. Very disappointing.
Review 107:The room was big. We also really enjoyed the buffet breakfast. Just a short walk up the hill to the theatre.
Review 108:I like the location -close to Sight and Sound - the breakfast coupon and the store - all convenient. Was very clean - staff wer very helpful and courteous
Review 109:Tiny bathrooms.
Review 110:The location was perfect. The grounds were nice too. The kids enjoyed the pool, 2 playgrounds and the animals. The room was clean and the staff were very nice.
Review 111:The room spelled musty and was a bit dusty. The restaurant was disappointing. We thought the food would be better.
Review 112:Convenient location, nice grounds, good for kids.
Review 113:Great place to stay with little ones. Plenty of play equipment. My son enjoyed feeding the animals every morning. Will definitely stay again. We loved the breakfast buffet that was included in our room price. Overall our stay was fabulous.
Review 114:WiFi service was down all weekend. I had looked forward to snuggling in at night with my kindle and watching movies.
Review 115:Hershey Farms is peaceful and lovely. It is the perfect place for a quiet getaway.
Review 116:It wasn't a B&B, as I thought. No room cleaning because we wanted it later in the day, so they forgot us entirely.
Review 117:The room had two queen beds, as advertised.
Review 118:We stayed in the carriage house in room 560. We specifically called the hotel and asked for a room in the Inn, on the 1st floor, facing the pool, but our request was not honored. The desk clerk said the written request only said 1st floor so thats why moved us to the carriage house. They didn't record that we ask for a room facing the pool. It is quite a hike to walk from the carriage house to the pool to swim. The room had 1 smaller window, about 36" x 36" and only 3 lamps with very dim lightbulbs in the bedroom area. We literally could not even read a book in the room it was so dark! The lightbulbs seemed like they were 60 watt bulbs. The lighting was truly horrible! The lamp switches were under the lampshades and very hard to reach because the shades were tiny! the lamps looked like they were purchased at a yard sale. The pillows on the bed were extremely thin. We asked for 4 more from the Inn and they were sent over within 10 minutes (again, wonderful staff!) which helped the second night. The beds were hard as rocks! Firm is one thing but it was like sleeping on wooden boards. The tub/shower was very slippery and there was no grab bar for safety getting in and out of the tub. The tub is very high and stepping out could be problematic for some. There was also nothing in the tub, stickers or bath mat, to keep from slipping. Yes, it was nice to have the k-cup cofffee maker but there was no tea, only coffee. There was only 1 chair in the room to sit on, yet the room sleeps 4. When I sat in the chair, which was next to the tv mounted on the wall I looked over at the tv and saw a very huge, multilayered bunch of cobwebs between the tv and the wall. It seemed they were there for a long time, and they were still there the 2nd day after the room was cleaned. There is no reason for us to stay overnight here again when there are so many other hotels in the area.
Review 119:We loved the grounds. Great walking trail and we were able to sit by the lake on provided chairs which was very relaxing. Two playgrounds on the property, petting zoo and a clean pool so kids had plenty to do. Breakfast included was wonderful and we look forward to going back to the restaurant on our next visit. Inn staff were very nice and efficient. Gift shop was typical of the area but it was nice to be able to get some locally grown produce. It is in a very central location. Bathroom in room was very large with a nice counter and double sink. There was a cute bench outside each room in the carriage house where you could sit outside which was nice. Loved the larger refrigerator in the room. Also had a microwave and k-cup coffee machine.
Review 120:check in time at 3 pm it is toooo late. im most hotels everywhere check in time usually much early.
Review 121:free breakfast; clean rooms; coffe maker in the room; pool
Review 122:Small, out-of-date bathrooms Overall damp/dirty feeling Disgustingly unhealthy breakfasts
Review 123:Great pool and grounds Nice location near Strasburg and Lancaster County tourist spots
Review 124:We loved the grounds of this inn. There were animals to feed, a pond to walk around, two swing sets, and a pool. My son was able to ride his bike, while my husband and I strolled along with our other son in the stroller. It was a perfect family walk in the evening! The room was spacious for our family of 4. The restaurant offered delicious food with lots of variety. The staff was friendly and accommodating! We will be returning next year!
Review 125:The room we were given didn't have a desk and was advertised as having a desk; I like a desk to sit on my laptop and unwind while my wife & son watch TV. Also, we booked the room For July 3rd - 8th (5 nights) at a rate of $159/night...on Sunday 7/6 I was speaking with another guest in the same type of room who was paying $119/night; so I went online and low an behold with a AAA discount rooms were going for $114/night. When I questioned it at the front desk the clerk had no answer and said I had to speak to the assistant manager on Monday. On Monday the assistant manager said she could change my rate for Monday night but to have Sunday night's rate adjusted I would have to speak to the manager who was on vacation. I think that was pretty poor.
Review 126:For the most part, the staff at the hotel and restaurant was super nice. The pool is relaxing, not cluttered, and adequately sized. The rooms appear to have been recently spruced up since or previous visit in 2010.
Review 127:What's not to like.
Review 128:The staff was very helpful and courteous. Megan at the front desk was great. Ann the housekeeper kept our room spotless. The smorgasbord breakfast was delicious. I will definitely go back and recommend it highly.
Review 129:food and clean
Review 130:Wifi is not good, room could have been cleaner
Review 131:excellent location and setting, very nice staff, good food in restaurant, nice gift shop
Review 132:The only negative was the tv didn't work the best.
Review 133:Everything was pretty good the breakfast was delicious.
