Reviews for Under Oaks The Vineyard Suites

Review 1:Negatives: Unhelpful staff across the estate. The booklet in the bedroom states breakfast is served from 8am to 10am on a weekend. The same was announced by the hostess on arrival. However staff insisted breakfast was served from 7:30 to 9:30am on weekends. Kitchen staff could not boil nor poach an egg - the only option was fried. There was no ketchup available at breakfast. No toast was offered, despite other guests enjoying theirs. We eventually got our toast - after breakfast. Tables weren't cleared during breakfast, despite several courses being available. Plates and bowls were left piling up. Pizzeria staff refused to assist us when we arrived an hour before closing. So we sat ourselves and eventually managed the attention of a waitress, who served us like a teenager being punished to chores. We understood they were closing, but felt 60 minutes to be enough time to quickly have pizza and wine. We left 15 minutes before closing time. There is an overall unfriendly tone to the estate, even found in the extensive preamble of the menu of the restaurant. There is an entire page of: "DO NOT do this and DO NOT do that". Maybe this was heightened by the dreary staff, but it left us feeling agitated by most of our interactions with them. The only saving grace was the friendly and helpful lady who assisted us at check-in.

Review 2:Positives: Beautiful accommodation Beautifully kept wine estate Delicious pizza for lunch and dinner at the pizzeria on the estate. Incredible wine tasting with options of chocolate and Turkish Delight! Very helpful and friendly hostess/manager Central location to Paarl and surrounding wine estates and activities. Three minutes from a top health spa, also set in an estate environment. The only reason it's not 5 star is because of their staff!

Review 3:The house is lovely, situated by a small lake nested in the hills of Paarl. The standard is high, and on a luxury level. The suites are large, with patio, large TV, and a fridge. But all of this gets a special shine by the butler that goes with it. His name is Joe; he was there at all hours looking after the guests. Joe made us feel as if we were the only guests he had ever had.

Review 4:Peace, tranquillity, wonderful views and the best pizzas in the world and of course the wonderful wines. Charming and helpful staff. Our second stay at Under Oaks and it won't be the last.

Review 5:Did not like the fact that as people open and shut their doors - you get disturbed all the time - and it was a lot. - some type of sound proofing or something needs to be done

Review 6:luxurious and clean - modern

Review 7:Lovely decorated rooms. Well finished. Beautiful being surrounded by vineyards and in nature over looking the farm dam - Had a great relax in a superb location

Review 8:This was our first trip to South Africa, to attend a wedding in Paarl. I found Under Oaks via a Google search, read the reviews, and the photos looked fine. Booked 4 nights. What a fantastic experience in every aspect! The setting, suite, comfort, breakfasts (we only had time for breakfasts, and would have really liked to try their pizzas!!) and all-round excellence of the staff - all of the highest standard and friendliness. Highly recommended, without any reservations whatsoever.

Review 9:Breakfast could be a little bit more rich. Make sure you book a room looking to the dam. My one looked to the road and I could not leave my curtains open.

Review 10:Value for your money is just fantastic. You can not expect this level of comfort for that little money you pay. Bed is super comfy. Room is very big and very well equipped. The location is very peaceful but far from restaurants.

Review 11:Sunday and Monday evenings are difficult in the area to eat as most places are closed. It's a shame pizza restaurant on the estate is closed both nights! Rooms great but sound proofing not brilliant!

Review 12:Staff were delightful and very helpful. Rooms were well appointed.

Review 13:Breakfast could have been slightly better. Only one option omelette was served. Juice was mix a drink juice. Milk was long life. No room service but restaurant on premises. Overall place is lovely though after all you don't go away for the weekend for the food but rather the environment

Review 14:Views are stunning. Peaceful and tranquil. Perfect for young couples. Clean and neat.

Review 15:Beautiful room and surroundings, really friendly, helpful staff who went out of their way to help us. Had a lovely time wine tasting and at the pizzeria, sat outside with a view over the lake

Review 16:We stayed for the weekend in a suite overlooking a calming pastoral scene. The staff at Under Oaks is very friendly and sufficient, with excellent attention to detail making Under Oaks good value for money, from the bottle of wine as a welcome gift to the Charlotte Rhys products in the bathroom. We loved it and will be back!

Review 17:We had problems with hot water so experienced cold showers in the winter, which wasnt great.

Review 18:The guest house and the breakfast were really good. The staff was very friendly and most helpful.

Review 19:The rain did put a damper on the weekend but despite this we had a ball.

Review 20:The beautiful surroundings , luxurious accommodation and very helpful and friendly staff.

Review 21:We loved everything and thought it was great value for money!!!

Review 22:Joe, the butler/chef, is fantastic and made us feel very comfortable during our short stay. The breakfast and creamy yoghurt were fantastic!!!

Review 23:Minor issue but no bath in room & no lights close to mirror made putting on make up difficult. Just worth noting if u have a small baby to bath.

Review 24:We loved the rooms opening up onto the lawn and dam with cows & horses & ducks to keep a 2yr old entertained. Very beautiful rooms & the pizzeria has great food & once again child friendly with the jungle gym & outdoor dining.

Review 25:having to leave.....

Review 26:Everything, the location, the staff, the rooms, the facilities, the cleanliness. Really don't know why this place isn't a 10/10 rating, there must be some really fussy people. Special thanks to Joe for the warm welcome and a fantastic breakfast.

Review 27:Nothing.

Review 28:Modern rooms with nice views in the middle of vineyards. Everything is new and tastefully decorated. There is a great pizzeria in the main building. Perfect place for a relaxing stay.

Review 29:We had no outside space in terms of a veranda or sitting out area, which bearing in mind the location and weather was a bit of a disappoint Trent, although we did enjoy the walk over to the manor for breakfast.

Review 30:Staff were great, good breakfast and good service, quality of furniture and fittings were excellent.

Review 31:What a lovely place to stay. Tranquil, rooms are poor luxury. Definitely will stay again when visiting the Cape wine lands. Awesome worth the bit extra to pay!

Review 32:The only problem we had was that we were allocated a room with no view over the dam and with no outside seating area. I understand that we booked a standard room as such, but the pictures are a bit misleading creating the impression that one would have a nice view.

Review 33:Room was clean and really nice location.

Review 34:Breakfast service was a bit slow

Review 35:I had a great walk around the perimeter of the estate & was able to see the grapes, olives etc. This built up an excellent appetite for an excellent pizza that evening.

Review 36:Nothing all perfect

Review 37:This is truly idyllic. We stayed for 3 night and wanted to stay longer. Beautiful decor, most comfortable beds and beautiful scenery. Amazing

Review 38:lack of a pool sprinkler system going off in the wee hours of the morning wifi slow if you are streaming video

Review 39:Beautiful rooms, attention to every detail, welcoming, attentive staff, private vineyard location, outstanding breakfast

Review 40:Nothing but you need a car. Located several km outside town

Review 41:Hospitality. You feel very welcome and home. Nice decorated room. Very nice beds. Breakfast perfect. Owners who really want to make it their guests very comfortable. Thanks again for the excellent dinner tips.

Review 42:i didnt know where to go to check in/out also wasnt sure where the breakfast was. so just a couple of sign boards would have helped to direct me

Review 43:The room was stunning, staff was very frendly. breakfast was delecious.-- Thank you

Review 44:Lovely place. View on the little lake between the vineyards. Nice Rooms, modern. A place to relax! Quiet, good food, tasty vines. We took some bottles home.

Review 45:The accommodation is in a beautiful setting, in the middle of a vineyard next to a lake. Very relaxing. Very luxurious, all your needs have been thought of. Breakfast delicious & staff couldn't do more to help. The pizzeria on site seems very popular so would suggest you book ahead - we didn't & couldn't get a table.

Review 46:You could clearly hear the other guests on the hallway, it woke us up a few times.

Review 47:Nice breakfast, beautiful surroundings, wonderful bed, friendly staff.

Review 48:It would have been wonderful if the manageress had recommended an alternative route to avoid the N1 snarl up that had apparently started at 15h00 that afternoon. Not being familiar with the area, we had no idea where "Okavango Road" was (from where the N1 had been closed), and also did not know what alternative routes were available. We were exhausted when we finally arrived, almost 4 hours later than intended...

Review 49:We were stuck in a traffic jam on the N1 for 4 hours 30 minutes and could eventually only check in at 22h45 instead of the expected arrival time of 19h00. Joe was waiting with a smile on his face, and had already turned on the heater to warm the room (it was cold and raining). Nothing asked was too much trouble to provide. Impressive!

Review 50:Nothing

Review 51:The setting was beautiful and the food and t wine( from the vineyard)at the Italian restuarant wer excellent. People could not have been more helpful. We wished wer had booked for longer!

Review 95:A nice and romantic place to stay. Explore Paarl and enjoy the view!

Review 96:The waitresses at the pizzeria weren't very pleasant and carried a bit of an attitude. The only thing really missing on the facilities side is a pool. Besides that a world class getaway and will return for sure.

Review 97:Unbelievably comfy bed and room with amazing finishes and patio with beautiful views of the dam, surrounding vineyards and mountains. The staff were very accommodating making sure we found the place, making sure the stay was going well and cleaning the room midday as we wanted to sleep in. Jo is wonderful and the breakfasts were delicious and what's served changes each day. The under oaks wine is really yum we had the sauvignon blanc. We enjoyed two tasty meals at the pizzeria - good pizza and arribiata pasta.

Review 98:I have stayed in many hotels and guesthouses worldwide and hope thatthey learn from Under Oaks how to take care of their guests. The roomsare fabulous and very very clean.the service is fantastic and everyoneis so pleasant.keep up the good work definitely value for money highlyrecommended.RAUL AND LUCILIA JOHANNNESBURG/PORTUGAL

Review 99:We both ordered the English breakfast. My husband's breakfast came out first and mine a few minutes later. We then had to find another lady who was there and ask her for some toast. She then promptly brought us 2 slices of toast (total) on a plate. A few minutes later our original waitron brought us additional toast in what seemed to be the proper holder of the toast. My husband by this time has practically finished his meal. I realise it's a small issue, but for the standard of the facilities etc, you would expect the food and service in the restaurant to have the same standards.

Review 100:There is no pool and Paarl was very hot at that time.

Review 101:The location was brilliant, in the wine farm area. The room was lovely The view magnificent, but one or two rooms don't have a great view. Staff were very helpful. Bathrooms modern & clean

Review 102:No mini fridge, especially since there is no room service and the pizzeria was closed on the Monday night. Ice would be nice. Wine tastings or booking one only available after 10h30 in the morning.

Review 103:The bed Quality toiletries in bathroom Coffee and coffee plunger The view Attention to detail i.e. enough plugs, mineral water, rusks, wine instructions for air con Good breakfast
