Reviews for The Carolina Inn
Review 1:Room was so small we couldn't walk around at the same time. The water in the cold water faucet in bathroom was a trickle at all times. One morning there was no hot water, took an ice cold shower.
Review 2:Location was excellent, could walk around campus and downtown Chapel Hill, Staff aimed to please. Tried to find a way tom compensate us for the problems.
Review 3:Bar and restaurant were being renovated, which was unfortunate. My room was small, but very well equipped. The staff was extremely welcoming and the hotel is situated perfectly in Chapel Hill.
Review 4:Location and staff
Review 5:When closing the bathroom doors, there was a 1/2 -3/4 inch gap between doors. No privacy.
Review 6:Taking daughters wedding photos, room was to change in. Very nice, beautiful grounds and Inn. Did not sleep there, just for comfort in changing.
Review 7:It was a little crowded. Move in weekend for UNC. Two weddings. Could not be helped. Restaurant is undergoing remodel, so dining is in the lobby. Wait times were a little longer than usual.
Review 8:Nearly everything. This hotel is charming, beautiful, fantastic location (walkability) and is very well run. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Onsite restaurant serves above-average food.
Review 9:The halls were a little dark. They should remove the existing lights and add recessed lights... At least 3 or 4 more than the lights that are already there
Review 10:We had an elevator next to our room. Every time someone got in theelevator our wall vibrated and we heard a large generator sound. Itwas terrible!
Review 11:WiFi was never really consistently up and functional for me. Otherwise, it was an awesome stay.
Review 12:Fridays on the Porch was awesome. The atmosphere was great.
Review 13:Maybe I just went at a bad time, but when I booked this hotel, nothing was mentioned that both the restaurant and main bar were closed. Since I was planning to meet a couple of colleagues there, we sat in the makeshift "sunroom" that was the temporary bar. The bartender was exceptionally nice, but the cocktail supplies were extremely limited and you pretty much had to settle on what was available. When I got to my room, the lamps weren't working, nor was the phone. I called the front desk from my cell phone, and they said they'd send someone to my room. I waited for over 30 minutes, no one ever showed up and I had to leave for my meeting. Later that evening I went to the front desk and that time they did get someone to my room who promptly fixed the issue. I had been wanting to stay at the Carolina Inn, but I was disappointed and don't plan to stay there again. It's way overpriced, and the website doesn't provide an honest portrayal of the room size (way smaller & darker than I had expected), plus there was no mention of the fact that the restaurant & main bar were closed. The whole experience was just contrived, overpriced, stuffy and felt "less than advertised".
Review 14:The staff was nice and even though there seemed to be some confusion and miscommunication between team members, they were always smiling and tried their best to be helpful. The bartender was exceptionally nice.
Review 15:Wi-Fi was somewhat balky.
Review 16:The room was comfortable all around. The place was very clean. The hallways were filled with interesting historical portraits, possibly a problem for someone who should go some place in a hurry.
Review 17:Very small room. There were at least 2 weddings there that weekend so the whole hotel and the parking area were tied up with the festivities. The drunks from the weddings were noisy in the parking lots and in the hall outside our room. No place to park when we came back from dinner Saturday night except at the far end of the lot. The restaurant is being renovated so they were serving meals in the lobby.
Review 18:The location was within walking distance of the Carolina campus and downtown Chapel Hill. Nice to park our car and walk all over the campus and downtown.
Review 19:Corridors did have a certain musty odour, perhaps inadequate ventilation. Breakfast could have been more imaginative and did not match the gourmet dinner service.
Review 20:This hotel has style! Beautifully and tastefully decorated. Restaurant served an excellent choice and quality of evening meals.
Review 21:Small bar area, could use a little more space for casual dining...
Review 22:The style and decor were just amazing and the room was stylish and comfortable. A wonderful mix of southern charm and sophistication...
Review 23:Being woken up in the middle of the night by a couple arguing loudly next door. The reception staff took immediate action, and the problem was quickly solved.
Review 24:The Carolina Inn is a great place to stay. It feels as though one is staying in an old Southern colonial house (lovely rooms) and its displays of photographs of past students, staff and visitors over the years allows one to wander back in time. The lobby is beautifully-decorated at Christmas time and is a lovely place in which to relax. The staff are friendly, and the breakfast buffet has a good variety of options. We will be back.
Review 25:Great location for staying in Chapel Hill. Easy walk (2 blocks) to Franklin Street where there are bars, restaurants, and shopping. Also, great location for campus activities such as a basketball game at the Dean Dome.
Review 26:Price - a little high compared to other times of year
Review 27:Service Friendliness of all staff Location - on UNC campus Beautiful, historic building Extra comfortable beds with LOTS of pillows Green - promote reuse, recycle Pharmacopia toiletries FREE WIFI with no password required! Fantastic onsite restaurant - Carolina Inn
Review 28:Such a dumb thing but I did not like the room service menu. No breakfast. The door hanger was only left the first night?
Review 29:Loved the holiday decorations. The bed was amazing! The staff was so polite and helpful!
Review 30:The Carolina Inn is a gracioius southern hotel on the edge of the UNC campus with ample parking. My room and bathroom were well laid out and functional, very attractive and comfortable. I have been delighted with the restaurant's food and service--can't resist the biscuits and grits. It's not cheap, but worth it.
Review 31:Nothing !
Review 32:The staff were excellent and could not have been more helpful. Wonderful surroundings Comfortable beds Excellent food both in the restaurant and bar. Complimentary cookies appreciated by our son !
Review 33:You could hear the people in the next sweet very clearly. You can also hear people walking down the halls on the hardwood. I understand trying to keep the history in the building but maybe carpet in the hallways. Our car was also blocked in by a wedding DJ. He parked his jeep and trailer in front of cars and left it there till morning with no regard that people might want to leave. Luckily everything is somewhat close but it did change our plans. Some one should have been checking the lot. Also they lock up a lot of money on your card for a long time before it is released.
Review 34:The grounds were pretty and the history was interesting. Staff was friendly.

Review 101:Additional costs such as parking. It just ends up as an expensive place to stay, but your very comfortable doing so.
Review 102:Its extremely comfortable
Review 103:They lost part of our booking and were generally incompetent about fixing the problem. The beds were uncomfortable and the room was LOUD. I heard literally every foot step in the hallway outside of my room.
Review 104:The location was good if you want to be in CH.
Review 105:Very friendly and helpful staff. Superb food and service quality. Spotless rooms, but smallish. Southern Colonial furnishings with much of the hotel and local history framed on the walls. Marvelous bed. Excellent location near all restaurants. Very good quality early morning coffee complimentary. Not cheap but reasonable price at $200, would be $300 in bigger city.
Review 106:Uneven staff experience. Ate in bar on a slow night and the service was lousy. Difficult getting a problem with a room electric outlet resolved. Excellent service and food in dining room. Pleasant staff at front desk.
Review 107:Location, atmosphere, food, pleasant room, on-site parking, very well kept facility
Review 108:Staff was friendly and very accomodating. I had booked the wrong type of room on-line. Kate was more than happy to change it to a different type of room.
