Reviews for Chapel Hill University Inn
Review 1:I had to move to three rooms before the room was adequate. The first room had an inaccessable closet (there was a refrig. in one side and the door to the other side would not open because the refrig.was in the way blocking it.) The second room had water dripping from the bath ceiling and the floor had puddles of water in it, The third room was OK.
Review 2:It is convenient to I-40 and 15-501.
Review 3:Actual location is across the street from a dingy liquor store and carsales lot. It is unattractive, looks sketchy and has construction goingon. Men loitering in parking lot made me nervous about my car safety. The room was overheated and cooling fan did not work. Had to open doorand 'fan'. There was a clump of dirty hair in the bed when thecover was pulled down. The toilet barely flushed. You can hear traffic.Bed was very uncomfortable Pillows also uncomfortable - thin and'lumpy' No place to connect electronics for re-charge - exceptthe bathroom, or unplugging the lights.
Review 4:Proximity to unc Chapel Hill Proximity to F&B across the highwayVery inexpensive. (However, all the negatives do not offset - andI'll gladly pay $40 more next time to stay at a much nicer place)
Review 5:Disappointed in the Time Out Restaurant. It used to be a great place to hang out before and after the game. They are running on a skeleton crew and their menu has really been downsized.
Review 6:Staff is great. Very convenient location to UNC. Look forward to a spring trip.
Review 7:The Breakfast place was on the second floor and this is not accommodating for elderly or handicapped people as there was no elevator.
Review 8:Close to where we needed to be.
Review 9:The excellent service of the front desk. Tony was extremely helpful, efficient and eager to please. A first class employee. Galen and Tamika were alert and helpful. Overall a first rate staff!
Review 10:that it Didn't offer free breakfast for everyone. and that once maintenance fixed the heat I couldn't adjust it .It was way too Hot in the room.
Review 11:Shuttle Service ,also that the room came with a coffee maker ,fridge and a microwave.
Review 12:The ceilings in the bathroom are ridiculously low (and dirty). I couldn't raise my hands above my head in the shower without touching it; eww. Also not sure why they have a shuttle but don't seem to run it! When you factor in cab/Uber from this location, the value is not as good.
Review 13:Staff was friendly and helpful. I like that they have a restaurant/bar, and the UNC sports theme is great.
Review 14:The blankets on the bed were ROUGH and felt like flexible Brillo pads. They reminded me of waffles.
Review 15:The pleasantry of the front desk employee and the cleanliness of the lobby and the friendliness of the staff made this stay memorable. And the chicken wings from the bar were superb.
Review 16:Did not have a bad experience -but would have preferred to have stayed on the interior side of the motel. Wish there had been a door between the sink and the toilet/tub. The AC/Heat unit was a bit difficult to adjust. Need a bigger sign facing Fordham Drive.
Review 17:Very clean. Comfortable beds. large vanity near sink. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The lobby was welcoming and clean.
Review 18:Overall a comfortable room with nice bathroom. However, room was very noisy at times during the night due to street traffic. A room on back side might have been quieter.
Review 19:Convenient location. Excellent staff. Quick and easy check in and out.
Review 20:Other than a lingering smoke smell in our room - good stay
Review 21:Friendly staff, good location between UNC and Duke, beds comfortable, clean but room does have smoke smell, restaurant had good food, lots of TVs and friendly bartender
Review 22:Would've liked to have been made aware the pool had been taken outWe wouldn't have stayed here had we known
Review 23:Staff outstanding room what we expected as we stayed last year
Review 24:The staff was great, Tony went out of his way to make sure I had what I needed to enjoy my stay. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable, excellent location... far enough off the main road enough that it was not noisy, but right a cross the street is a great shopping center and restaraunts... I really can't complain about anything, especially the price. I will stay there again if I'm in the area on business. Thanks guys!
Review 25:The room was filthy. Mold & mildew growing around the doors, on the ceiling, dead mosquitoes in the tub, hair on the ledge of the tub, a pack of pineapple cigars laying on the floor, the fridge made the cold orange juice I had just bought that nite for breakfast the next morning hot so I had to throw it away. The check in area seemed clean but the room was a totally different story. Was all around a dirty, gross experience.
Review 26:One day, the driver for the shuttle to the university was 20 minutes to late for the appointment. The shuttle was not very clean (do they ever remove the empty bottles and cans?). The room was a little bit "smelly".
Review 27:Good value for money - the place is really cheap, so you can't expect too much. Personal was very friendly and helpful. The shuttle to the university is very convenient. Over the road, there is a choice of cafes, restaurants, and shops. Very central to different places.
Review 28:Ask for room on ground floor when booked was told they do not honor request made on line...terrible attitudes from staff...not helpful...u on ur own there. Wallpaper coming off walls.someone's hair left in tub.
Review 29:We decided to book our stay at Chapel Hill University Inn, when we saw that the hotel had a swimming pool (at booking.com it even shows the pools' pictures). Nevertheless, we were surprised when we noticed that the poor they had is now under construction. Not a very good for a summer weekend stay....
Review 30:The swimming pool was totally under construction. It would have been good to know that before we booked it. The breakfast was skimpy, i.e. little fresh fruit, and no eggs.
Review 31:The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 32:Bookings.com did not reference the fact that the pool was not available for use. That one factor was key for us in deciding where to stay. We even paid more for a room with a view of the pool, so we could watch from the room if need be. The "non-smoking" room stunk of cigarettes, too.
Review 33:The coffee.
Review 34:The pool was not working. Deck was being repaired. Beds were wobbly and needed to be bigger. Sheets did not smell good. There was no complimentarycontinental breakfast except for deluxe suite guests. Fitness room in disrepair.
Review 35:The close proximity to hospital.
Review 36:Just the fact that the airconditioning was bad. After being moved it was better. No pool but that was unavoidable
Review 37:Staff was great. Helped tremendously and to the absolute best they could
Review 38:The only negative was that the pool was not available and I would suggest they have coffee available for the people who opt to not have breakfast although they did accommodate that for me.
Review 39:This was convenient area for my needs and a great value. They are doing a great job on updating an older property. I would stay there again.
Review 40:The room we were given was right next to the maintenance room, which usually had the door open and equipment scattered on the sidewalk. The room itself smelled like an ashtray, and that odor permeated all our clothes, to the extent that everything had to be washed when we got home. The pool was closed for repairs although no work seemed to be underway. The bedspreads did not seem to be washed on a regular basis.
Review 41:Free Wifi in the room and the convenient location near the Eastgate mall and Fordham Road.
Review 42:Pool was drained when I got there, was planning to go swimming with my friends for my birthday, breakfast closed at 9:30 in the morning and I can't think of one person who wakes up that early for anything, I touched the bathroom roof and water poured all over me, and the room was small and honestly did not smell like it should have been 90 dollars.
Review 43:Nice atmosphere, the whole place in general had a good personal feel to it. Very friendly staff as well.
Review 44:Something was strange about the thermostat in our room...it was kinda loose on the wall, but the room was cool nevertheless. There was one tiny little hair in the bathroom on the soap dish attached to the shower wall, but that was nothing water couldn't just wash away easily.
Review 45:I loved the convenience of check-in and how friendly the staff was upon check-in and checkout. Had no issue getting a late noon checkout. The beds were comfy and the room amenities appear to have been updated recently. Huge flatscreen TV but we never got around to watching it. The shampoo/conditioner and bar soap was also great quality; my hair was so soft. :)
Review 46:Was a bit misty smelling, room could do with being updated. Pool was out of order, which was one of the reasons we picked it in the first place, so that was disappointing.
Review 47:Beds were comfortable and room clean
Review 48:Bugs, cracked doors, curtains wouldn't close all the way. Other peoples hair follicles in the bed, shower, on the floor, not enough electrical outlets..The hotel needs to be bulldozed and built from the ground up again...They don't tell you what time the shuttle stop running on sundays and leave you stranded downtown..
Review 49:Location, and shuttle
Review 50:There was sand on my sheets the first day. ..strange since there's no beach around. Coffee maker was broken and the maid left only decaf coffee packets in the room. All minor things, which would not stop me from staying there again.
Review 51:Good location, very friendly staff and fun "extras" for graduation and Mothers Day.
Review 52:I felt like a vip to the staff at University Inn. They treated my motherand I so well, even driving us to another hotel to catch a shuttle tothe wedding we were attending. Couldn't have asked for bettercustomer service.
Review 53:I didn't like how breakfast wasn't automatically included in any room
Review 54:the pillows were amazing! :-) The staff was very helpful and pleasant. I really don't have anything negative to say. We had an amazing visit!
Review 55:the headboard didn't match size of the bed,but that's it.
Review 56:The staff was courteous and I loved the pillows and cleanliness. The fact this hotel allows pets is wonderful.
Review 57:Honestly, there wasn't anything I did not like.
Review 58:The staff was very friendly and helpful in resolving an issue with a double-booking. The motel itself was very nice. It was sports themed and made my UNC visit more exciting as the entire motel was decorated in UNC gear. The room was always clean, the wifi was great, and the beds were better than I though. My family will be staying here again in a couple of months as I move into Chapel Hill for school!
Review 59:Breakfast was a joke. No Wi-Fi in the rooms or even in the lobby. Drains in the room were slow. Took staff fifteen minutes to find my reservation.
Review 60:Perfect location for Chapel Hill and access to North Carolina Chapel Hill
Review 61:We had a non-smoking room which smelled heavily of smoke. Our clothing and bags were very smoky smelling when we returned home.
Review 62:The restaurant in the motel was convenient and food was good.
Review 63:Wasn't apprised of breakfast requirement. Outside entry. Bathroom had too low of ceiling...
Review 64:Everything was great. The room set up, lights on so I wouldn't stumble. Great location from the University & shopping center, as well as access to the interstate.
Review 65:They don't have a cafeteria
Review 66:The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. There's a free shuttle bus, so you can get the center of Chapel Hill and UNC campus. I suggest this hotel, above all if you don't want to spend a fortune with the others hotel.
Review 67:Towels were small, and toilet/shower were small (we are average size adults) Room was worn, ceiling tiles were stained and there were cobwebs near the ceiling. Our ground floor room was noisy.
Review 68:Location was great for us, easy to get to our destinations and find restaurants that worked for our food restrictions. Bed was super comfortable. Fridge, microwave and coffee maker were clean and working. Very friendly server in breakfast room who addressed our food allergy concerns as best she could. Front office staff friendly, lobby comfortable with complimentary coffee/tea.
Review 69:The room was very musty smelling and even though it was nonsmoking I still felt like my room had been smoked it or it was coming from the people outside smoking. The room appeared to be clean but I couldn't stay due to my allergies. I would not suggest staying here if you have dust or smoke allergies.
Review 70:The staff was very accommodating to my needs. They were also extremely nice and helpful!
Review 71:Overall a great stay. Didn't have breakfast but it is in a fantastic area with lots of stores and places to get food. Room was fine for 2 people - would not try to fit more. Bathroom was large. Hot water tended to run low - not out, but I take longer showers... Staff was great. Free coffee was great. House keepers were very nice and always asked if I needed my room done before they came in.
Review 72:Leave your stuff in the car when you check in. Chances are you will have to drive around the building to get to your room. Room was clean. Bathroom (ceilings and lights) was a little dirty. Very thin towels.
Review 73:Husband and I came up for the Duke/UNC game. Not a bad price compared to some of the other hotels and nice to have a shuttle to and from the game (for a small fee). Room was standard, not too over the top. Nice staff. Not bad for one night.
Review 74:Friendly staff, Carolina-themed lobby decor, comfortable bed, clean room Pleasantly surprised: outside of the looks run down, but the room was comfortable and clean. Don't let the exterior scare you away.
Review 75:Facility is outdated. My room seemed clean, but I found a dirty sock and 2 candy wrappers on the carpet. Overall motel security is lax and back of motel is dark and scary at night.
Review 76:Nice, accommodating staff. Great location. Ease of registration.
Review 77:Room wasn't ready when we arrived 30 minutes after check in time, but were given a complementary meal for the inconvenience.
Review 78:You have smoking rooms. Clean. Comfortable. Attached bar and grill.
Review 79:no lotion in bathroom, should have included a complimentary breakfast, however, it was conveyed to me by others in our group that breakfast was not good.
Review 80:snacks, treats in lobby on valentine's day. complimentary coffee
Review 81:Rooms could do with a refresh in decor, but were clean and comfortable.
Review 82:Great atmosphere in bar, good location and very reasonably priced. Lively little spo!!
Review 83:There are no elevators so you have to walk your bag up if on the 2nd floor. They didn't bring hair conditioner to the room until the last day. I asked at the front desk and they weren't able to help on that.
Review 84:The room was clean and the front desk staff were helpful. It was quiet and convenient.
Review 85:The only complaint, we had, was that the towels were kind of stiff and hard...not plush... and thick...
Review 86:Very comfortable bed..... room was clean....A staff person... Shaun, was very helpful and friendly.... helped me reserve a room on the computer...
Review 87:The room itself however was look like a motel 6 room. I wouldst pay $75 for that room so im glad I got a discount.
Review 88:The lobby area was adorable and so cute. I love the tar heels so that is why I picked this place.
Review 89:The room was for up to 4 people, but there were only 2 washcloths & 3 bath towels, I was a little confused about that.
Review 90:The location is great and very clean and comfortable.
Review 91:this should be classified as a motel, not inn. Not friendly staff, old rooms. not happy at all. door let in a cold, cold draft. would not stay or recommend again
Review 92:location
Review 93:Would have liked for the bathrooms to have been cleaner and the water pressure in the showers to have been stronger.
Review 94:The hotel was good for the price and location.
Review 95:I had understood that the Inn was much closer to UNC campus than it actually was - we went to Chapel Hill for our daughter to visit UNC, to which she was planning to apply. The plus is that they run a shuttle bus there, the minus is that if you want to go into Chapel Hill itself or to the campus at times convenient to you, you need a car and I think it would be very useful to specify that for overseas visitors. The staff aren't used to being asked anything about Durham or Raleigh, I think many people who stay there are there for the football and know the area.
Review 96:Value for money; friendliness of staff.
Review 97:I had no hot water my first morning there, the coffee machine was broken and never replaced, (although I reported it the first day), and I killed a cockroach crawling on the bedspread, the size of my Aunt Irma. I complained about all of these problems and was only given a $20 compensation. I will not be returning, nor would I recommend this facility.
Review 98:Location was excellent
Review 99:Rooms definately could use a remodel. The toilet leaked. Construction workers hanging outside rooms untill 11:00 at night made me a little uneasy.
Review 100:The decor was great.
Review 101:Breakfast is average- sugar laden My room was facing the road- too much traffic
Review 102:Great location- close to Trader Joes and other shops- all on foot Excellent shuttle with helpful driver to UNC Good housekeeping and overall service Excellent for business
Review 103:Poor signage made it difficult to find late at night .
Review 104:Friendly and very helpful reception staff.Clean and great facilities. Would stay there again. EXCELLENT value for money.
Review 105:Pity that breakfast is only included in superior rooms not for normal rooms. With 7 dlrs pp too expensive.
Review 106:Location convenient for visit to city and for shopping. Easy access to airport. Breakfast area is simple but very clean and friendly
Review 107:The towels were thin and scratchy. The water pressure in the shower was not good.
Review 108:The desk clerk on Saturday was very pleasant and helpful. We ate breakfast in the bar on Saturday and enjoyed it.. We loved the coffee machine in the lobby; the coffee was excellent.
Review 109:Air Conditioning was stuck at one temp (cold). Continental breakfast was inconveniently located.
Review 110:Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We liked the older style property, cleanliness and location. Good value.
Review 111:Room in photo looked larger and newer than in real life. An updated old motel. Non smoking room smelled like stale smoke.
Review 112:Friendly staff, nice grounds and pool. Good bed.
Review 113:Too many smokers here and the place smells like smoke all the time. Every time I enter this room I smell smoke and want to leave. Wi-fi connection is intermittent. Not sure who tv service provider is but the channel lineup does not match any other listings in the area.
Review 114:The staff and the cleanliness of the room. Breakfast staff and fellow travelers at breakfast were fine and the location is very nice.
Review 115:NOTHING to Not Like !!
Review 116:The personable and helpful staff, the consistently clean and comfortable rooms, the location near main highways but convenient to downtown Chapel Hill.
Review 117:No bottled water available for purchase in the bar or in the vending machines.
Review 118:Close to Chapel Hill football games; excellent staff; clean and comfortable room
Review 119:Really smelly rooms, really really smelly. Carpet was dirty. I'll never take my family there or suggest it for someone I care about because with same amount I paid I could have booked much better hotel but unfortunately my reservation was non refundable.
Review 120:Location
Review 121:Your rooms and bathrooms could use a fresh update
Review 122:Everyone at your hotel made sure our family was comfortable and was great about everything we needed. You should add a category for " schools" as opposed to just business or leisure as we stayed there to visit surrounding colleges. If my daughter gets in to Chapel Hill you can bet this is where I'll be staying in the future- while an update would be nice your staff makes up for it :)
Review 123:The air ventilation system needs to be cleaned to get rid of the musty smell that's especially noticeable in the lobby. Once that's gone, this will be a terrific value.
Review 124:Comfortable rooms and bed, good service, and they accommodated our need not to use stairs with no problem.
Review 125:The towels were so old they had lost their nap. They were the kind of ancient towels that I save to wash the dogs. Management could surely spend some money to improve this aspect. Also, there was no plastic laundry bag. When I asked, the front desk man said they don't supply them.Again, the management could spend a bit to provide better for guests. This motel was better run when it was a Holiday Inn.
Review 126:- was given the wrong room first, both smelled a bit funky - fairly loud, possibly due to some of the clientele that were there at the time - no complimentary breakfast, just a few bagels or toast would have been nice. - TV reception / quality was extremely poor - wifi: needed to log on anew every day
Review 127:- location - shopping in walking distance, incl. groceries - friendly staff - interesting atmosphere (UNC related) - probably a great place during sports seasons (college fb / basketball)
Review 128:AC- could be a little bit stronger to while to cool room.
Review 129:Chapel Hill Inn is older hotel but well maintain and service was great. Staff very friendly - had room ready for us late checkin. We will stay there in the future.
Review 130:The TV sucked
Review 131:The location
Review 132:Convenient location. It is always clean and comfortable. Reasonably priced. Food at The Pub was good.
Review 133:The free shuttle bus to UNC campus, the mall nearby.
Review 134:Cleanliness and location to UNC.
Review 135:Very convenient to the UNC campus and Franklin Street.
Review 136:Reception staff not helpful.
Review 137:Clean and good firm mattress
