Reviews for Amberley Suite Hotel

Review 1:Heater didn't work. Substituted a room at 11:00 pm, but it was not the type of bed we had reserved. There was only about 10 cars in the parking lot, so we knew they had to have rooms like we reserved. I complained at checkout, but "sorry" was all we got!

Review 2:Nothing

Review 3:There was no positive about this place. Smells bad, not well kept, old furniture and amenities, staff did the bare minimum

Review 4:Poorly maintained no breakfast due to low vacancy

Review 5:We booked through booking.com but they did not have record of our reservation. Fortunately they still had rooms available. The woman that checked us in did not know what she was doing and had to be on the phone for 20 minutes to have help to get us checked in. Not fun at 1am.

Review 6:It was clean but not updated.

Review 7:I think the rooms and interior need to be updated.

Review 8:I like the location and would like it even more after the street construction is completed. I like the hotel as a whole.

Review 9:The AC was a bit loud and had to work hard to keep our suite cool and dry. Hopefully that's part of the overall modernization and upgrade program. That's not even a complaint; just an observation.

Review 10:The Amberley is in a GREAT location, right on the edge of Decatur's historic downtown shopping and retail district. The hotel itself is truly a classic ... really beautiful including a spectacular internal courtyard. As we learned from the Amberley's OUTSTANDING STAFF, the best may be yet to come as the new owners are modernizing and upgrading the classic design and expansive facilities at a rapid clip. Ours was a very comfortable and very reasonably priced 2-room suite. We'll look forward to staying at the Amberley again!

Review 11:The original room we were given was not cleaned. BUT, they upgraded us to a Suite instead.

Review 12:Comfy bed, cute place. Awesomely cool location. The Historic District was very neat.

Review 13:The couch and chairs were stained. The bathroom counter was only partially attached to the wall and I was afraid to set anything on it for fear it would collapse. I was traveling with 2 kittens and when I went to pick up their dry food in the morning it was crawling with ants (third floor room).

Review 14:Room was quiet and spacious (king suite) and the area is very nice. The bathroom was very clean.

Review 15:Room seemed dirty. There was a large stain on the couch, dirt in the corners, and hair on the bathroom floor. It also had a musty smell.

Review 16:The location was fantastic!

Review 17:We had to change rooms because a TV fuse fried. The room we were moved to had a HVAC water leak that made the carpet wet. The bathroom had hair in the tub and we saw a few roaches during the two day stay in our room. FYI, We won't go back.

Review 18:The continental breakfast was good, but about what you'd expect for the price relative to the area.

Review 19:The toilet in our room had a leak so the bathroom had a urine odor. I reported it to the staff and they offered us another room.

Review 20:The location and it's history was a big plus. Local shops. Good value.

Review 21:Room was worn out. From the worn carpet to the old tube type TV's to the mini-refrig that buzzed all night to the Toilet that rocked back and forth and would not flush right to the watermarks all over the ceiling (One Active) to the breakfast that consisted of grits and breakfast cereals (because they were out of everything else) to the receipt that they did not know how to give me when I checked out. I have stayed all over the world and this is in my tp 10 worst places to stay.

Review 22:Check-in was OK

Review 23:Need an upgrade to the suites. New funiture is needed. Didn't like that my room was located on the first floor by the stairs. We heard people walking all times of the night which was disturbing at times.

Review 24:I did like the space and the bed.

Review 25:There were clothes left in the closet from the last guest. If the maid missed that, what else did they miss?

Review 26:Clean and comfortable. Good value for the money

Review 27:I liked the man at the desk, Sam, I think. Helpful, good sense of humor. The breakfast staff was helpful for their better than average breakfast in a cute dinning room, overlooking the courtyard. It has a classic feel, older, yes, but very worth your visit.

Review 28:The Amberley Suite was located in an area that afforded walking, restaurants, and shops in close proximity. Being in Decatur in family business, it was a pleasure to come back to our room which the manager upgraded to a suite at his suggestion, complete with a mini frig and living area that accommodated a quiet glass of wine at the end of long days. The breakfasts were excellent with offerings such as eggs, sausage, grits, fruits, cereals, pastry... You get the idea! We will definitely be back the next time business takes us to Decatur!

Review 29:I didn't like how hard it was to get to our room. It was like a maze. Also the facility is a little dated but for the price it was fine. Beds were comfy!

Review 30:Breakfast was nice

Review 31:This hotel is starting to get a little tattered around the edges, I visit Decatur a few times a year, time to find new accommodations.

Review 32:Convenient location

Review 33:Place needed some sprucing up. Some peeling paint ect ect. Old tvs and one machine of 4 in exercise room broken

Review 34:It was clean and close to exit. Was angry that other hotels in area were over priced, BREAKFAST WAS GREAT. LOTS OF ROOM.

Review 35:The staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. The beds were very comfy. The bathrooms badly need updating, but I love the location and will always stay here

Review 36:See above

Review 37:The beds and furniture where very old and the bedding was horrible. So old it screamed not clean . Update your hotel. The furniture the carpet , nothing comfortable or inviting at all

Review 38:I didn't like being right in front of the train and I didn't like the fact that the curtains would not close so the outside light was in my face the entire night while I was trying to sleep.

Review 39:THe bathrooms are moldy and paint chipping off, smells damp..wanted a soda but needed change, no change to be had..trains by our room were loud..locked ourselves out of our bathroom by shutting the door and no help, so we had to move rooms at 10:30 at night...

Review 40:breakfast was okay, appearance overall is nice, but old and needs to have attention especially in the bathroom..moldy and paint chipping. staff was very pleasant.

Review 41:Pillows to soft, why we bring our own. A/c and refrigerator were loud when kicked on, but worked well. Two TVs with one remote. Toilet moved when sat on it. Train close. Vending - $1.50 for thee choices Pepsi, mt dew or water only!

Review 42:Bed was very comfortable and the feathered comforter. Walking distance to meetings. Room was comfy and roomy. Nice size desk for doing business work. People were very friendly. We enjoyed our stay. Nice breakfast. Room nice and roomy.

Review 43:We reserved a King bed but received a Full. The air conditioning in our room did not work and it was very hot in our room all night. The wi-fi signal did not reach to our room. Overall a very disappointing experience

Review 44:I had booked two rooms had email confirmation, but when checking in they only found one room . When got home found that three rooms charged to card even though only had two

Review 45:Couldn't find second reservation but gave us a second room and honored rate.

Review 46:The bathtub had missing grout in the tile, the caulking around the tub and floor-line was missing and moldy. There was no television service or hot breakfast as advertised.

Review 47:The location was excellent. The room size was adequate, bed was comfortable.

Review 48:The cable didn't work, had just gone digital and they didn't actually have breakfast there, even though the info said there was a free full breakfast. They gave us gift card to Hardees. We were discounted $20 for the room, if you didn't mind not being able to watch TV- a nice place.

Review 49:nice building

Review 50:They did not have the complimentary breakfast as the website said it did. They did offer gift cards for breakfast to a local restaurant, but I would have rather have not had to leave the facility for breakfast. Also, the pool was rather clear, but it had a lot of trash floating in it.

Review 51:The hotel did have an excellent staff. They were all very friendly and eager to help you in any way. The rooms were clean, and the beds were comfy.

Review 52:The website spoke highly of the included hot breakfast, however there wasn't any. Some guests recieved vouchers for a Hardee's, but they ran out before we checked in. The only ice or vending was on the first floor, and the staff, while polite, did little to resolve the whole breakfast issue, which had been a deciding factor in staying there.

Review 53:The beds were comfortable, and the room was nice and clean.

Review 54:Had to change rooms because AC wasn't working. The fabulous breakfast they used to offer now consists of granola bars, bananas, water and coffee on a small sofa table by the check-in counter. I understand they had some bad fortune with ice damage, and they're only working with a small staff. But the way they're currently operating it certainly isn't worth paying the extra money for the star rating they have listed.

Review 55:Location

Review 67:No dislikes.

Review 68:Location, Value, convenience.

Review 69:Nothing really. Though it was older, the rooms were nice and clean

Review 70:Proximity to restaurant

Review 71:The bedroom smelled a bit musty, but not to the point that I would ask to be moved to another bedroom.

Review 72:Very spacious and comfortable bedroom, nice staff.

Review 73:the AC was kind of noisy when it came on.

Review 74:Very nice large room, good parking, safe. Excellent breakfast buffet, with a good staff running it. Good refrig and microwave in the room--room was clean and bed very good.

Review 75:The staff especially one receptionist who checked us in and divided usup - we were a group of three. We were all at seperate ends of the hoteland all really far from the lobby. The hotel was virtually empty sothere was no need to do that.

Review 76:One receptionist

Review 77:This close to the lake, they need more outside electrical outlets.
