Reviews for Grande Roche Hotel

Review 1:We asked for help with making reservations to visit wineries, but no effective assistance was provided. We were surprised that an otherwise fabulous hotel did not have more effective and efficient concierge services.

Review 2:One of the most comfortable suites we have ever stayed in. The food was delicious and the wine selection excellent. We particularly enjoyed the restaurant managers and the wine stewards

Review 3:The coffee in the room. The dinner menu consisting of 3/4 courses could be more flexible for folk like us staying for more than one night.

Review 4:The restaurant manager is amazing. Dynamite definitely comes in small packages! She involves herself in every aspect of the running of the restaurant. All staff are absolutely consistently well trained and happy to please. The rose petals and sparkling wine delivered to our room on the last night was unsurpassed. Thanks so much.

Review 5:The security guard at the gate had a problem to let us in on arrival! The excuse of not having a working mini bar in the room due to load shedding, is the worst excuse I have ever come across. So no cold beverages when you needed it most. We were presented us with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc on the house, which is of little use if not ice cold! One cannot drink white wine at a temperature of 25+°C (Paarl temperatures outside often reach 40°C) Limited facilities on the premises itself - no in house Spa, no bar - we were not advised of where to request a drink or to have a sundowner!

Review 6:Lovely views and old world ambience. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Review 7:Reception staff least impressive. On checkout asked to return the borrowed adaptor...rather than staff coming to collect it. Rather aggressive lady on checkout, needs to understand her job is Guest Services not v.v,

Review 8:Lovely location and history. Rooms comfortable. But no bath, no adaptor. Dinner was over priced and over stated . Not in the top 10 in SA per their website. Breakfast was average hotel standard buffet, not 4/5 stars.

Review 9:The duplex that we were given had no value to money

Review 10:After complaining, the was visible improvement on staff and service. The ground and lawns are exceptionally well kept!

Review 11:The decor! The high-tec,cold bedrooms do not fit in with the character of the building. I preferred the old decor. The staff were pleasant but untrained waiters at breakfast do not fit in with a five star hotel.

Review 12:Loved the setting. Beautiful gardens and buildings.

Review 13:Would expect al a carte cooked breakfast for hot food- it used to be like that so standard has slipped

Review 14:Excellent location and ambience Food very well presented but limited menu if staying more than 2 nights

Review 15:Everything was perfect.

Review 16:Stunning setting, incredible rooms and views, helpful and friendly staff who kindly helped us celebrate our impending nuptials. Very relaxing hotel - we loved it.

Review 17:Quite simply that we had to leave!

Review 18:From the moment we drove up to the gate until the time we left, it was nothing but perfect: exceptional staff (absolutely everyone), wonderful accommodation, delicious food and a sense that the staff cared and were genuinely interested in our well-being. The attention to detail was unquestionable. They even remembered that we we're there to celebrate my wife's birthday and our anniversary.

Review 19:Some bathroom features a little dated.

Review 20:Staff were fabulous with great attention to detail. Luxurious room, very good restaurant. Loved the history, views and lovely grounds.

Review 21:The best in 5 star luxury that South Africa can offer - from the warm welcome, the delightful staff, the excellent breakfasts, the splendour of the accommodation, the perfect setting and ambiance - we adored every minute and will most certainly return!

Review 22:I'd called before to request a slightly early check-in. To my pleasant surprise as we drove in and parked, the young lady from reception came walking a distance to our parking area and with a smile greeted us by name. In short - fantastic staff, fantastic service.

Review 23:Very bad room experience. The fridge smelt so bad that the bad smell permeated the entire suite.had to eventually call someone at 11 pm to remove the fridge.

Review 24:The views

Review 25:The fact that we had only booked in quickly to go to a wedding and had to leave!

Review 26:The professionalism and warmth of all the staff and of course the incredibly beautiful establishment itself.

Review 27:There was only one restaurant with no change of menu and the Bistro was not operating during our stay for evening meals so we had to dine out. The studio room needed updating

Review 28:The staff were very helpfull and friendly. The location is very good for exploring the the nearby wine towns and estates

Review 29:Service - Slow and reminders had to be uttered. Examples:1) For dinner we were asked to wait in the Lounge even if several tables were free. After 45 minutes we had to reminf them we were there. They had forgotten us.

Review 30:Food was good

Review 31:Statues in garden out of keeping with Cape Dutch heritage. Furnishing in rooms a little dated (but not antique).

Review 32:Fabulous dinner in pretty dining room preceded by drinks on patio. Returning to the room to find candles in bathroom, chocolates on the pillows. Lovely grounds. Attentive and friendly service. Spacious room with all necessary amenities.

Review 33:This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at. The rooms are enormous, clean, well appointed and with many little luxuries that you would expect but don't always get. The staff are friendly, attentive and the sommelier takes time to come to each guest and discuss the wine list. The food is lovely, with a great selection (we didn't make it to dinner unfortunately), but breakfast is a treat.

Review 34:Wish I could have stayed longer and had my family with me

Review 35:Accommodation excellent My room was upgraded Staff provided a packed breakfast as I had to leave early Location is fantastic

Review 36:The only point my wife made was that she was hoping to have her luxurious bath !! but there was only a shower .

Review 37:The peace & quiet is overwhelming. The Flora & Fauna could be a Disney film setting . The staff were all helpful and the breakfast on the terrace was royal splendour .

Review 38:Having to leave

Review 39:There are magic moments. Our stay at the Gran Roche was just that. From check in with champagne to our departure the next day over High Tea made it hard to say good by. Reeva made our visit perfect and the rest of the staff made it happen.

Review 40:High Tea was terrible the coffee in the room needs to be changed to better quality and more milk should be given. Please dont use male masseurs unless discussed previously with the guest.

Review 41:The rooms Good shower

Review 42:Staff was extremely friendly and handled our late evening arrival perfectly. We found the Hotel to be very clean and well maintained. Our room were top notch, unusually big and luxuriously comfortable. Thanks for a great stay and hearty breakfast. This Hotel can be used by all with high expectations. Perfect 10

Review 43:Our stay unfortunately coincided with a 21st b'day party so we were woken a few times with noise but were assured that this was a rare occasion. A lot of booking sites (including this one) mention a 'spa' - there isn't a spa - it is simply a massage room - just FYI.

Review 44:I loved the fact our suite had underfloor heating! What a pleasure in the Cape where there is rarely a heated room! Hotel and grounds were very pretty and staff were great. Breakfast also very good.

Review 45:Nothing at all. However free WiFi was only available in the public areas apparently, and in the room 'Always on' seemed not able to deliver the free 30 mins they promised!! I found this happened to me at Cape Town airport too.

Review 46:The staff were very friendly and welcoming and could not do enough for us - they made us feel valued guests. The meals were extremely good and beautifully presented. The rooms were very well furnished and comfortable.

Review 47:On arriving we were welcomed by very friendly staff. Prior to being checked in we had a glass of sparkling wine and relaxed prior to checking in. The food was Michelin star quality and the waiters attentiveness was appreciated. The staff on hearing that my husband will be celebrating his 40th birthday there proceeded to surprise him at breakfast with a scrumptious birthday cake prepared by the chef. On returning to our room after dinner, we were met with rose petals on the floor and a Jacuzzi bath already run with candles and a bottle of champagne. What an unforgettable experience and we will be returning in November. The views is spectacular!!!

Review 48:Being continually asked if we were going to dine in the restaurant for dinner.

Review 49:Comfortable and spacious suite.

Review 50:The rooms need a bit more light and fresh colors

Review 51:The location as such is almost unbeatable

Review 52:No mini bar facilities No entertainment (Bar closed)

Review 53:Breakfast not served hot enough

Review 54:Fantastic staff

Review 55:Fantastic location. Probably one of the best in the winelands.

Review 56:Beautiful rooms, comfortable beds! The food delicious!! The Service was excellent!

Review 57:Like everything

Review 58:Friendly staff , great facilities , great room

Review 59:Nothing

Review 60:Beautiful property and an incredibly attentive staff make for a memorable stay.

Review 61:I think breakfast can be a little "more" special!

Review 62:Location, comfort of room, facilities and quality of service - client centred approach!

Review 63:restaurant is very fine dining, but we did not have an option for anything else.bistro closed.

Review 64:Room incomplete. Bitten by spider while sleeping. Pools cold. Breakfast very average. I have stayed in 3 star hotels far better than this.

Review 65:Location

Review 66:Wonderful hotel, great breakfast - would highly recommend

Review 67:Nothing! We will be back as soon as we can

Review 68:The Michelin worthy food, wine tasting menu, great service, lovely suite

Review 69:I had my eighty seven year old father with us and the friendly staff must be complimented for their excellent service. They were kind, understanding and went beyond what one would expected. The gardens are beautiful, the food is excellent and the rooms are comfortable.

Review 70:That we had to leave. What an enchanting place. Have staid at the most beautiful places in the world but this is definitely one of them.

Review 71:Everything. We were so mesmerized by this heavenly place that we never left the hotel. The food is Michelin star and to die far. The service is amazing and the location absolutely beautiful.

Review 72:The lightning in bathroom, impossible to see your own face not to mention impossible to put on makeup ( husband could not even shave)

Review 73:Lovely settings, absolutely beautiful. Restaurant superb / faboluous

Review 74:Lack of senior management in so called exclusive boutique luxury hotel, especially during the peak period of the festive season. Dinnerservice exceptionally slow relaxed dinning over 4 hours totallyunexceptable . ordered a crepe suzette ,should be prepared at tabletold to come into main restaurant area to watch preparation .(onceagain totally unexcetable when being charged r110.00 For this desert, which once again was totally below par served with a tiny sample of socalled homemade icecream.) The breakfast buffet on first day overripecut up fruit ,a cheese board with basic South African choices (thelunch and evening a la carte cheese choice far superior) At no time onour first morning were we offered or told that eggs other than the premade scrambled eggs and other overcooked grilled tomotoes and mushroomscould be ordered only on the second day of our stay a menu appeared. Iordered a omlette with smoked salmon mushroom and cheese ,and waspresented with a omlette pilled high with ham in addition to thefilling I ordered (I do not eat ham)Our garden suite which is marketed as the top premium suite needs urgent up keep and maintenance, toilet roof area has damp ceiling ,lose toilet seat faulty running cistern. The LUXURY double shower has very mouldy grouting . We realize this is a old heritage site and former stable however there is no excuse for lack of hygiene and maintenance

Review 75:The gardens a beautifull Paarl valley and mountain area .

Review 76:The friendly staff, the welcoming gifts, the excellent food, the friendly sommelier that helped us choose excellent wines, the beauty of the natural surroundings.

Review 77:Everything was better compared to how I remembered it from previous stays. The friendly and efficient staff helps to make the stay more memorable. They went out of their way to make a 25th anniversary unforgettable!

Review 78:shower was flooding the bathroom; poor internet connectivity in the room

Review 79:Location and breakfast on the patio

Review 80:Lovely food. Nice rooms

Review 81:Nothing!

Review 82:Attention to detail was great. Setting is amazing. Degustation menu with wine pairing was sensational.

Review 83:Wine prices.

Review 84:Gardens, accommodation, food, staff

Review 85:We left to soon. We would stay longer next time.

Review 86:Spectacular, Attention to detail,Excellent Service.Wonderful staff.

Review 87:Restaurants Shouldn't not be five star hotel, I think only 4star hotel

Review 88:Good atmosphere
