Reviews for Nwanedi Country Manor
Review 1:We had a wonderful stay at Nwanedi Country Manor with Gavin and Jeanne as our hosts. The staff, Christine and the Sjef, specially was very friendly and helpful. Room is spacious and clean. Great views! Would definitely stay there again. Thanks to everbody at Nwanedi for the lovely stay.
Review 2:It would have been nice to have more coffee available in our room. Dinners are excellent but not suitable to vegetarian people.
Review 3:Wonderful, panoramic location in the countryside. Very comfortable, spacious and relaxing room.
Review 4:We arrived and the owner met us... The first phrase "we did not know you will have children" but we wrote about transfer several times telling in mail about kids. When we arrived we got nice food and I asked the owners wife for the baby chair...the answer "we do not have it, because we do not want to have children here". After when kids had fun at pool and laughing we been told that they should be more silent because other people do not like... What a "nice" attitude!!! All the rest of the time we wanted to escape from hotel so as not to feel irritation from owners. Place is for those old people who do not talk to each other at the breakfast.... Or talks can be in the evening with owner about wine... Which you buy after. The owner did not even came to say goodbye like he is doing for others. Felt very unwelcomed from him. As well we had constant problem in the room and hotel with electricity...
Review 5:The hotel has amazing view. Food was really nice.
Review 6:Thank you Gavin and Jean for making it a memorable visit for me and my Mom. Thank you Sarel for the delicious breakfast each morning, and Thank you to Christine and the rest of the staff for the welcoming clean rooms each day. So much appreciated.
Review 7:Lovely lodge situated on vinyard estate right outside Paarl. Very friendly owners/staff, great ambiance and good food. And wines, of course. Beautiful, very spacious rooms with stunning views.
Review 8:Amazing people! It was a fantastic stay. Thanks a million for the great hospitality and the fantastic wine. We'll come back one day And the food was good as well, no matter who cooked :-)
Review 9:It would have been nice to have some tissues (the box in the bathroom was empty) and a shower cap!
Review 10:The host/owners were very helpful and interacted with their guests very well.
Review 11:Our stay was too short
Review 12:We were very surprised about the room size, the excellent food, the perfect wines and the courtesy of the owner couple. The collection of train memorabilia was great.
Review 13:Booking .com policy on booking rooms must be more explicit. I booked a double room for 2 people, but was made to pay extra on arrival due to not clear booking policies. This needs serious attention and fixing up or else customers will feel cheated
Review 14:Friendliness of owners. place is very very nice and clean and comfortable. Location is great too!
Review 15:Even the dog had a smile on his face! The rooms are spacious and very well appointed. A desk with appropriate lighting and WIFI accommodates the business traveller who also does not need to waste time to go out for dinner.
Review 16:There was no menu options for lunch and dinners which would have made it easier to decide whether to eat in and we could not compare the prices with the other establishments in the area.
Review 17:We liked the comfort and the tranquility of the place, the quietness and the view of the mountain was great.
Review 18:The description of activities available at the farm on booking.com does not match what is actually offered, e.g. cellar tours.
Review 19:We enjoyed our stay at Nwanedi very much. The service was excellent and we felt very welcome. We enjoyed the good food and wine, beautiful view and relaxing atmosphere. We also enjoyed our outing to the Spice Route, which is close to the lodge.
Review 20:As we were the only guests on the night we stayed the restaurant was closed. The main reason for booking this place was that we could relax unwind with good food and wine without driving anywhere.
Review 21:Comfortable bed Excellent breakfast
Review 22:Having to leave!
Review 23:Nwanedi is perfect in every way. Charming and caring hosts, delicious breakfasts and dinners, stunning scenery, very comfortable accommodation. Highly recommended!
Review 24:I cannot fault Nwanedi, from the spacious rooms, excellent choice of breakfast, attention to detail and friendly capable staff. The bedrooms are huge, luxurious beds and bedding, and bathrooms larger than most hotel bedrooms (certainly in Europe). We have now visited three times and leave so relaxed. The terrace overlooks the vines and yonder mountains. There's a small pool to cool down on the hot days. Gavin and Jean, the owners, go out of their way to be of service. Their new Manageress, Lita, is amazing and chef Nigel produces really good food. Not forgetting the lovely Christina, head housekeeper. You are doing a superb job, Nwanedi - keep up the good work. We will be back.
Review 25:nothing
Review 26:lovely lodge with all the comforts you will need for a few days.wonderful hosts gavin and jean told us the right places to visit in the area. the best view of the mountains from the patio and a chef to prepare your meals and add a touch of laughter with christina who is a jack of all trades and really looks after the visitors. well done.
Review 27:Very quite and tranquil surroundings. Beautiful scenery of the vineyards and surrounding mountains. Owners are very warm and welcoming and are prepared to go the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable. Highly recommended.
Review 28:-
Review 29:Great Guesthouse in a Wineyard! We stayed for one night on a road trip. You should book the dinner for 160 Rand (main + dessert) because there is nothing else around the guesthouse. They served an excellent steak, really one of the best we ever had in SA. But ask before you book what they are serving because you can't choose at the dinner anything.
Review 30:Not very welcoming...proprietor greets by saying "oh I didn't realise you were bringing children" not the greatest welcome. As a family we would not recommend staying here. Later that evening the proprietors wife says to my husband "of course I never wanted children myself"...we got the message. We will not be returning or indeed recommending Nwanedi...such a shame as the setting was pretty.
Review 31:The setting
Review 32:There was nothing not to like. everything was wonderful.
Review 33:We really enjoyed our stay. Highlight for us was the private pool and view. Other guests were imternational tourist who would tour the countryside during the day leaving the beautiful pool areato us. We also enjoyed the walks through the wonderful gardens and vineyards. Wonderful restuarants in all directions and within 10 kms.
Review 34:Our stay was very nice we stay for 5 days . The service was excellent and the staff and owner very friendly and accommodating we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for the amazing accommodation love the place
Review 35:A great place to stay. The staff and owner went the extra mile to make our stay special. They even baked special Lactose free bread for one of our party.
Review 36:We enjoyed very much to stay at this wine yard. The view over the valley was fantastic. We found great hospitality, the owners were nice and interesting people. We apreciated the little pool in the garden and the wine from the wine yard was really good.
Review 37:That we had to leave...
Review 38:The view from house is simply magnificent The hosts, Gavin & Jean, are a wonderfully warm and caring couple who just cannot do any more for you The chef, my goodness, the puddings should be illegal Could sit on the terrace and watch the world go by with ease, the view of the mountains is simply breathtaking.
Review 39:A few members of staff didn't attend some requests that were asked, therefore the attention to details and guests requests would need to be improved.
Review 40:Location was perfect, views - excellent and the room looked luxurious!
Review 41:Sorry there is not a small fridge for milk and fruit and something cold. A few rusks would be very welcoming when you arrive after lunch.

Review 76:Breakfast, room, views and hospitality
Review 77:Beautiful setting and friendly staff and owner.
Review 78:Hospitality Breakfast Room with en-suite bathroom was excellent Beautiful view
Review 79:Nothing to report.
Review 80:This is like home from home, the owners very friendly, it`s like knowing them for years. The views just awesome, our room very spacious, bed just to die for, so soft and comfortable. The staff very friendly and always offering extra help where they can. I can`t see us going to any other place than this should we visit Paarl again, no doubt we will refer this place to many of our friends.
Review 81:The WiFi, despite being on a remote property, was password protected, and there was no in-room info with the password instructions. Mosquitos are a huge pest, so best to close windows before leaving to go out for dinner.
Review 82:The location was wonderful, overlooking a large vineyard and the Paarl Valley. The lady who welcomed us was wonderfully friendly and warm, making us instantly feel at home.
Review 83:Bit neglected. Paint peeling in our room. Dusty behind beds. Lots of mosquitoes! Breakfast was very basic. As a South African you can get much better hotels for the price.
Review 84:Comfortable, spacious and good location. Beautiful views
Review 85:We loved every minute of our stay at Nwanedi. Owners Gavin and Jean were superb hosts, and all the staff were very pleasant indeed. We enjoyed several hours sitting on the terrace, drinking Nwanedi wines, and enjoying the beautiful views across the mountains and vinyards. Nwanedi bedrooms are exceptionally spacious and the beds are king size and THE MOST COMFORTABLE we have ever slept on. The bathrooms are also very spacious, with bath and large showers. After a breakfast of fresh fruits, yoghurts and full English we left feeling very happy that we had made such a good choice. Thank you, Nwanedi, we will be back.
Review 86:The location for us, who had a function in Paarl and just stayed for a night - was perfect!! Staff go out of their way to welcome you. Very good price for what you get!
Review 87:I honestly have nothing bad to say
Review 88:Staff are absolutely fantastic people including the owners. We absolutely had a fantastic time. What a peaceful place to be at. What a way to start off our lives together. We could not have asked for a better place. Everything was just fantastic.
Review 89:Can't think of a thing.
Review 90:Genuinely warm and friendly welcome. We were made to feel like one of the family. Nothing was too much trouble. Jean, Gavin and Christina went out of their way to provide us with early breakfast while we were competing in a 4 day competition locally, so we were there ahead of time each day. Fabulous views, great location and comfort.
Review 91:Breakfast -very limited choice, no fresh fruit, empty containers not replenished. Restaurant not open so no chef. A lack of information on the afternoon drinks that were available.
Review 92:People were very helpful especially Gavin, who transported us to and from a restaurant both evenings of our stay.
Review 93:This is a fabulous place. Huge rooms. The bathroom was the largest I've ever seen anywhere in the world (and bigger than many bedrooms I've stayed in). The bedroom was spotless. Both the owner (Jean) and the manager (Tjaart) were absolutely fantastic. They were constantly working hard to make me feel welcomed and kept asking for my preferences. The location is great and the views both from the bedroom and the breakfast area are superb, with the winery and the mountains making a spectacular setting. Location is just outside Paarl. If arriving at night, a GPS might be a good idea. Also, it seems to be a very safe place (e.g. a guest dropped his camera next to his car at night; the next day it was still there). Finally, the Nwanedi bottle that I tried was one of the best red wines I've had in the last five years. I will go back to this place and I hope I can find their wine in Europe.
Review 94:Nothing really. Maybe one thing - a small fridge in the room would be very useful
Review 95:My wife and I had an excellent 1 night stay at the Nwanedi Country House, which is located in a very quiet, tranquil area near Paarl, right in the middle of the vineyard. The views around are awesome you can only dream about when travelling through the "Wine Land". The house is nicely decorated and furnished, you can feel the owner's passion for wood everywhere. The room we stayed at was very spacious with beautiful polished wood furniture and spotless clean, as actually the whole house. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room air conditioner worked very well too, so we had a really good night sleep, probably the best one during our travel through South Africa. The room also benefited from a patio where you can relax sitting outside having a glass of wine and enjoying the scenery, after visiting numerous local vineyards of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franshoek - all not that far away. You can also cool yourself down taking a plunge in a small pool with a nice waterfall feature in the corner. The property does have a dining area on the ground floor, but unfortunately the restaurant at Nwanedi has not re-opened yet, when it does it will definitely be a HUGE PLUS, as you would not need to go out for dinner and could fully enjoy a relaxing evening at the beautiful Country House. However, you still can have your drink in the evening, as the owners operate an "Honesty Bar", typical for South Africa, with a fair selection of spirits and wines, you could help yourself with at any time, even if there is no staff available to do that for you in the evening. In our case the owner, Gavin Stork, was available and kindly offered his services as a barmen and even arranged some wine tasting for us, keeping our company and telling us a lot of interesting stories about surrounding area, winemaking and South Africa in general.
Review 96:Nothing.
Review 97:Good comfort, modern, large rooms, friendly staff. The guest house is situated in the middle of vineyards. It is centrally located between Wellington and Paarl.
Review 98:The bookings.com site did not say the restaurant was closed and one of the reasons we chose Nwanedi was for the restaurant. The staff recommended another restaurant to us but when we got there this was also closed for renovation. The first room we were given was above the work site so we had to request a change because of the noise. The second room which was very nice did not have a working TV, the safe was closed and while we could have had it opened it was just sitting in a wardrobe and not attached to anything so quite useless really. On leaving I was asked for twice the amount due. I also asked for a copy of my invoice which I am still waiting for!! All of this was a pity as the place has a lot of potential.
Review 99:The room was excellent. Good size and lovely bathroom. Location was excellent, beautiful setting in the vineyards.
Review 100:After 7pm nobody is around as the staff does not live in the house - so if you would like to have a wine after your dinner in town (they do not offer food on their premises) there is just no way to get anything. Although their website tells you about fine dining and wine-tasting - well, they do not have a restaurant. Breakfast is below average what we got in our 3-weeks in South Africa. First of all we were not even greeted in the morning. First sentence was ‘toast or cereals’. We then asked whether it’s possible to have breakfast outside as it was a beautiful morning. Instead of ‘yes, sure’ the answer was ‘It’s windy’ (which was not true), so we insisted to have breakfast outside and they did it with very little enthusiasm. You have to ask for everything as the staff does not really care. So if there is no juice they wait until someone asks until they bring new one. They have no idea what kind of jam they serve (‘you have to try’). Overall, we did not feel very welcomed and would not recommend this place. There are a lot of accommodations in this beautiful area – Nwanedi has to improve if they want to be what they think they are.
Review 101:The location and the house are absolutely nice - so are the rooms.
Review 102:Nothing to say !
Review 103:A place situated in the middle of wineyards ! We spend an excellent timewith the owner around a great Chardonnay ! a lovely and reallycomfortable place to stay. Good place to start visiting the winelands.
Review 104:Only criticism there should be security guard to look after parked cars at night.
Review 105:Very friendly hosts, quiet, views, room size, warm sunny room, English breakfast.
Review 106:Very warm welcome by incredibly friendly people, though we checked in very late, for which we were and still are very thankful. Impeccably clean, very elegant and spacious rooms. Quiet countryside environment. Good breakfast. Superb location in the wine lands, great view from both the room and from the breakfast. When departing very early, we got one of the best packed breakfasts we ever got. We remember our very nice chats with Gavin and Jean and their travel tips were very good - Gavin even wanted to help us review our entire itinerary. This will always be our first home in South Africa. Thanks! Very recommended place to stay.
Review 107:Super friendly welcoming staff and a luxurious, spacy and comfortable room with a great view of rolling hills and vineyards (not mention the views of the surrounding mountains). Surrounding area provides lots of cultural, historical and beautiful places to seek out. A must visit place!
Review 108:- the food was slightly more than acceptable - access to staff could have been better
Review 109:- coming from the madness of city life it was very relaxing - As a wine lover, found the wines to be very good - the view was marvelous - the roms were very comfortable and clean
Review 110:It was unfortunate that the geyser for our bathroom tripped so the shower was cold in the morning, but the hosts were extremely apologetic.
Review 111:The friendly service, the stunning views, the spacious and well-appointed room.
Review 112:The restaurant is currently unavailable, but it's so close to Paarl, that it was no trouble finding somewhere to go for dinner.
Review 113:It's so close to Cape Town / Paarl, but it's secluded soit feels like you are out in the countryside away from the hustle& bustle. It's very easy to relax there and the rooms areabsolutely fabulous.
