Reviews for Mark Twain Hotel
Review 1:some of the bench seats in dining booths had tears in them
Review 2:Free Parking Restaurant on premise (excellent food) Good value for accomodations Locally owned
Review 3:One of the bedside table tops was sticky.
Review 4:Bathroom was gorgeous and the library downstairs is a unique touch. We were on the 9th floor with a beautiful view of the sunset and sunrise. The bed and pillows were so comfortable I slept like a log. Lastly, the free breakfast was amazing with the omelette and waffle bars.
Review 5:Bath: Shower only- very tiny shower and a bit dated shower exterior, popcorn ceiling. No counter space. Re free drinks: you must use the coupons on the day stamped, only.
Review 6:Very nice breakfast staff, front desk check in was easy. 2 free drinks a day and free breakfast were great touches! Room: decent bed, small flat screen tv, clean room, basic and white
Review 7:We visited on a Sunday, and the hotel restaurant and bar was closed. The information on the website did not explain this, and we were very disappointed.
Review 8:Great location, good parking, within walking distance of riverfront.Room was very nice, clean and spacious. Lobby was very inviting. Breakfast was terrific, and the attendant/cook was excellent.
Review 9:The pillows seemed old and flat. The sink had a loose faucet which was slightly leaking and also had poor water pressure. The calamari at Two25 was odd. They were large strips that were greasy and soggy.
Review 10:Great location close to the civic center. Literally a 7 minute walk. Very friendly staff. Has the restaurant Two25 inside. Has a very industrial feel.
Review 11:It was a bit noisy at night because of the nearby main road.
Review 12:Clean room, good breakfast, polite staff. The hotel gives you coupons for two free drinks per night of stay. The restaurant was excellent.
Review 13:We have nothing bad to say. Our whole experience was wonderful.
Review 14:The restaurant was excellent (two25). The shuttle service and driver was great. It was nice to have a good breakfast before leaving.
Review 15:No bath tub , bath room was not clean, No ATM machine around unless I walk to a bar , NO it darks and I due not know your town , The TV did not work have the time . Really not sure I will return...
Review 16:Your team was very nice.
Review 17:The two free drink tickets per guest for the bar was wonderful. The breakfast was amazing, and decor was beautiful. I am picky and this meet all my expectations. Would highly recommend this hotel.
Review 18:The room needed a comfortable chair and a dresser. One of the front desk staff needs to be able to stop playing computer baseball and greet the guests coming and going.
Review 19:We liked the breakfast offerings, the comfortable bed and the friendly staff.
Review 20:The carpet in my room was stained and worn down quite a bit. There was cracker crumbs and a chip in the corner next to the bed
Review 21:I liked the old style to it but still had the amenities of the new style
Review 22:The breakfast staff was incredibly nice and the room was terrific! It's the second time I've stayed there and it's been my favorite in that area.
Review 23:I was very happy with the front desk clerk Li. She was extremely friendly . She referred to me by my first name every time she saw me. She was extremely helpful if we wanted to go anywhere. She printed maps for us and always offered the shuttle.
Review 24:Nothing.
Review 25:Everything positive. Best free breakfast I have ever had. Omelet station, hole 9 yards. Great value very reasonably priced. Restaurant on property excellent food, fair prices. Two free drinks upon arrival.
Review 26:Got drink tickets but couldn't redeem them bar or restaurant was closed to early. The finishs in the bathroom where cheap didn't feel luxurious. Shower was small and there was know where the set your luggage down.
Review 27:No bedbugs was a plus, compared to some of the hotel's in the area. Breakfast had plenty of options for everyone.Good view of the riverfront. Convenient location to the entertainment in the area.
Review 28:Microwave not working, coffee machine in lobby not working, restaurant closed on Sunday night. Do Peoria people fast on Sundays?
Review 29:Just a great place to stay...wonderful staff....the desk, the breakfast crew...delightful. Great room...quiet.
Review 30:Most important was the free continental breakfast, which was fabulous with made to order omelets and waffles! Room very nice and conformance. Really enjoyed the microwave and fridge! Made for easy safe storage and warming up of doggie bags!
Review 31:The glass blocks between the bathroom and bedroom. Lacked privacy for person in bathroom.
Review 32:Comfortable bed, relaxing rain shower, awesome free drink tickets, yummy breakfast.
Review 33:Hotel staff claimed that they had not received our booking from you - they initially said they could not accommodate us, but then put us in a small double room which I objected to; they then moved us to a larger room. Reception staff were unfriendly to us as a result of this mix up. They eventually admitted to us, as we were checking out, that they had received the booking, but they never apologised for the upset they had caused us. In the bar on our first night, there was a man smoking a cigar - the bar staff told us they could do nothing about this as this man was a friend of the owner! This hotel, while charming, seems to be run by someone who uses it as his own club, not as a hotel for paying guests. As it was his wedding weekend and he had many friends staying in the hotel, they should have either closed the hotel to other paying guests or treated then in a better manner.
Review 34:The driver, Dustin??, was extremely friendly, helpful and courteous as was the barmaid, Jo; the rest of the staff, especially the receptionist on duty on the 2nd day of our stay, could do with learning from these two individuals. The breakfast, while lovely, was served in a rather confusing manner.
Review 35:Only 1 thing: some occasional minor hall noise from other guests, although we were directly across from ice/sodas/elevators.
Review 36:Impressive library/lobby.Fantastic food. Polite and gracious staff throughout entire bldg... Actually opened doors for me!! :) Lovely riverfront view. Great pillows.Fridge/microwave a nice bonus.Easy walk to dining/museums/shops. Felt safe as a mom w/ only my teen son. Stayed 1 night for a college tour visit. Would stay again & recommend highly.
Review 37:Cozy hotel that paid particular attention to not only the larger details, but some of the smaller ones too. I really liked the two free cocktails, I thought that was a nice welcome. I also liked the fact that they had a sign on the elevator which told you which floor had what vending machine, and which floor had the ice machine. Wonderfully decorated. And much to my surprise they even had a jazz band performing which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Review 38:The bed was very hard and the pillows were flat. The coffee pot was plugged into the darkest counter in the room. It was very hard to make the pot without spilling. The bathroom shower needs updating because it looks like it might be leaking by a wall.
Review 39:Very nice employees, bar and breakfast. Also pretty quiet room except for some 2a party people outside our room for a short time.
Review 40:The sink in the bathroom- strange design and no soap dish and glass blocks in the bathroom were a little weird.
Review 41:Clean, really nice bed, and nice shower. LOVED: green initiatives and commitment to sustainability.
Review 42:The breakfast was poorly done but tasted good. It was a combination serve yourself and omlettes made to order.
Review 43:The room had a wonderful view of the river and was close to many great restaurants and activities.
Review 44:We ran out of kleenix- should have a spare box in the room. More counter or vanity space would be nice in bathroom.
Review 45:Conveniently located near Chief's ball park and easy to drive to
Review 46:From the moment you enter the hotel there is a wonderful smell to it. All the wood and references to Mark Twain gives it such personality. Yet wonderfully modern.
Review 47:Parking situation was horrid. Seems as they sold parking spots to the July, 4th crowd. Had to cram a full sized truck into half of a parking spot. Later after the fireworks had to move it to one of the many then open spots.
Review 48:Everything but the parking!
Review 49:The bed was very hard and the parking lot had very little lighting.
Review 50:Excellent breakfast, room and hotel were very clean, easy location from highway. The shower was awesome.
Review 51:Price of room with one king size bed a little pricey for the area. Think it was due to steamboat Race visitors. I did book the room late. It was all they had left. Everything else about this hotel was very good.
Review 52:Close proximity to Steamboat Race festivities. Reason for my stay. Breakfast buffet is very good. Friendly staff and clean hotel.
Review 53:Very limited places to eat in the area, so we returned to the hotel and had a really fine dinner with a free drink for each member of our party (8 of us).
Review 54:The hotel had a nice lobby with warm feeling and pleasant atmosphere. We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel
Review 55:nothing
Review 56:The piped music. The choice of beers avaiable in the bar. Breakfast. The fact that the decor of this hotel was unique. The "library" in reception.
Review 57:The rooms/carpet seemed a little outdated, but was still well maintained.
Review 58:The staff was extremely accomodating, even giving us a ride to and from the Civic Center for our concert. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, and drink tickets were a nice touch, also.
Review 59:The lighting in the standard king bed room wasn't all that great. No shower caps.
Review 60:Customer service and cleanliness was great! The beds were comfortable.Dinner in the restaurant was awesome!Hats off to the cook!
Review 61:Not a thing.
Review 62:A Really convenient location, clean room, free parking, AMAZING breakfast, and awesome staff. Room was small, but it had everything you could possibly want. I will be back for sure.
Review 63:4 free drink tickets! Modern and very clean room! Convenient location. Was a little skeptical when we drove up and saw the outside of the building but it is clear they spent all their money on the inside. Also, breakfast was fabulous!!
Review 64:It was very chilly in the lobby and hallway. There were 5 of us and we were all cold. This good be because they are an enery efficient hotel.
Review 65:The Staff was very friendly & helpful. The rooms have been redone, beds are comfy, art on the wall modern and interesting. Breakfast, cooked to order, was excellent.
Review 66:Can't think of anything negative!
Review 67:The place is just great! I loved the location, the accommodations, hospitality and food. I will definitely stay there again and I'll bring the family next time.
Review 68:Unadvertised two free drink coupons from the bar. Excellent included breakfast with a stylish place to eat even outside looking at river if nice enough out.
Review 69:There were no robes in the room this time the bathroom was not as nice as it was in the last room I stayed in at this property. They did not have enough shuttles running to the Civic Center to accomodate the guests that were staying there for that purpose.
Review 70:appearance was nice free drinks at the bar were good
Review 71:Bed was as hard as a rock and the eco efficient hvac in the room during the dead if winter left me pretty chilly and struggling to get it to a comfortable setting. Sink had a bad clog, which I attempted to fix and ended up grossed out instead
Review 72:Can't beat the location. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Their breakfast is amazing, above and beyond what others do.Free parking, which is nice and shuttle.
Review 73:We were so impressed with this hotel. The hotel has been owned and operated locally since 1990 as we discovered in the elevator. Interior of the lobby, bar, restaurant, hallways and room were all extremely nice with exposed brick. This was quite a surprise for my husband and I with the rate we booked for we received two free drinks in the hotel bar and complimentary breakfast buffet with made to order Belgian waffles and omelets. We would stay there again in a New York minute!!!!!
Review 74:We were on the second floor, ice machines were on 3,6 and 8...BUT the only one working was all the way up on the 8th floor. The was a HUGE inconvenience. Also the kitchen/room services closed before we got back from the concert. Then the pizza place nevet delivered our pizza... went to bed starving. Other than that it was very nice.
Review 75:The outside of the hotel looks a bit dumpy, but the inside is beautiful.
Review 76:The staff was extremely nice and accommodating to all of my requests. The free breakfast was also quite good!
Review 77:There was no pool, but not a big deal. The bathroom had a pedastal sink which doesn't bode well for the ladies and their makeup and other toiletries. And the hotel did not have pay per view movies but made up for it with a DVD player where I supposed you could go to RedBox and rent a movie. That wasn't a deal breaker, either.
Review 78:The restaurant. Very good food. The hotel gives you drink tickets for each night of your stay which was nice because the lounge area of the restaurant was welcoming. A full breakfast with made to order waffles and omelets was available at no cost to the hotel guests. The breakfast was remarkably good. And like I said, all fo the staff there were friendly and courteous. Also, it was a short walk to Riverplex.
Review 79:The building is a brutalist/modernist style that is grating. The lobby may be one of the smallest and least appealing I've seen in a hotel. The lobby does not present a great first impression.
Review 80:The staff was very nice, friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable.
Review 81:The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean & the staff was generally friendly .I enjoyed the robe aftery shower . I already recommended the hotel to friends.
Review 82:Bed was horrible need to replace mattress. Breakfast first day good, second day got there and cooks looked like they had no idea how to make omelet and the breakfast bar was out of potatoes, sausage, bacon. All it had was eggs.No silverware had to ask for forks. Containers were there but empty, NO COFFEE EITHER DAY AT 9:00am.
Review 83:Bathroom sink wouldn't drain Air was so loud you couldn't sleep and it ran steady. We finally just shut it off and slept in a warm room
Review 84:Close to the Ill Blues Festival Great breakfast
Review 85:Did not like lack of space in the bathroom. Did not like that there were only three hangers in the room-2 holding the room robes and 1 holding the dry cleaning bag. Did not like that the restaurant is closed all day Sunday. Did n
Review 86:Liked the convenient parking and the desk staff.
Review 87:The beds were large but awful. They were stiff and very uncomfortable
Review 88:Everything was wonderful but the beds! The beds were very hard! The breakfast made up for it! It was amazing! The cooks were kind as well.
Review 89:No counter space in bathroom. Nice desk space but the A/C unit was right next to it, blowing cold air onto me. Had to block it with a couple pillows. TV controls were quite confusing.
Review 90:The restaurant was exceptional. That's the reason I'd come back. Very convenient parking. Well located for business in the Peoria area. Great ambiance and very clean.
Review 91:Polyester comforter gave me nite sweats. bigger table for stuff in bathroom more hooks bathroom kleenex by bed in addition bath.
Review 92:Shuttle the good restaurant in hotel w outside seating breakfast was over and above. Office chair 4 bad back
Review 93:The room definitely needed room darkening window treatments, as the early summer sunrise awoke us on a day that we could have slept in. The room needed a 2nd chair. And the wall-mounted television was too small for the size of the room, plus High Definition would be a huge improvement.
Review 94:The lobby with the brew-on-the-spot coffee was very welcoming. The complimentary breakfast was very generous and delicious. The hallways and hotel room baths are attractively decorated. The parking was convenient. Although we didn't use them, the complimentary drink vouchers were a nice touch. The room was a comfortable size with plenty of passing room between bed and the dresser.
Review 95:The bathroom was inconvenient...no countertop for makeup, etc. Only ONE bath towel and ONE bar of soap in a DOUBLE room??!!! However, the nice young man brought them immediately...after we asked. I also felt there should have been a discount for "Spirit Of Peoria" passengers. We were very disappointed that the lounge was not open...even though the trolley did take us to a restaurant, we really would have preferred to stay in.
Review 96:Staff was very friendly and helpful. Trolley was a definite plus and the drivers were great.
Review 97:Bed was too hard
Review 98:All staff members were exceptionally helpful and courteous no matter what last minute request was needed; rooms nice and clean; patio entertainment great (jazz band); breakfast and rehearsal dinner meals were great! Thank you :)
Review 99:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was ample with plenty of choices as well along with an egg and waffle station cooked to your liking. Rooms are comfortable, clean and updated. We really enjoyed the hotel and will return in the future.
Review 100:Constant drip outside my window, which kept me up at night. The breakfast only offered sugar cereals. Some of the food was too cafeteria for me, not homemade.
Review 101:The library area. The staff.
Review 102:We had no issues.
Review 103:1) We all enjoyed the upbeat music that played in the elevators. We would all begin dancing when in the elevators. 2) The staff was professional, friendly, and attentive to any of our requests. 3) The buffet breakfast was awesome. They even had egg-whites for egg-white omelets. 4) The location was perfect and allowed easy access to the river walk and all that area has to offer. 5) The rooms and the hotel was kept clean 6) The fitness area had everything we needed 7) The bartender was one of the better bartenders that have waited on us. He made me an orange basil martini – you got to try it, and I’m not even a martini drinker.
Review 104:There isn't anything I didn't like.
Review 105:The room was small but very comfy, and the breakfast was incredibly good. We will definitely be back the next time we go to a Peoria Chief's game.
Review 106:The Mark Twain was located just up the street from our next day's destination, the Spirit of Peoria Riverboat. It's truly a cut above the other cookie-cutter choices in Peoria... Much attention to detail and with a staff that were truly there for us.
Review 107:There were dead lady bugs in window on 8th floor
Review 108:Location
Review 109:I love easy access off highway!
Review 110:Bed was not very comfortable
Review 111:Location ,
Review 112:That we couldn't stay longer
Review 113:It was quite and clean. Beautiful, breakfast was amazing. The bar was amazing.
Review 114:Cleanliness. Under the bed was filthy
Review 115:The beds were extremely comfortable. The bar/restaurant was good and the environment was nice.
Review 116:The staff was excellent. The restaurant was excellent and we would go back again just for the breakfast.
Review 117:Room and bathroom was small but nice
