Reviews for Unicoi State Park & Lodge
Review 1:There was over at least 60 bugs in the loft up stairs all over the wall the bed etc . That was no fun at all . Please spray the room more often to prevent bugs .. The pictures did not match up .. The bed was not made on the loft .
Review 2:The food at the Resturant was great . Lady at front desk was awesome . They did clean up and give fresh towels .
Review 3:The food in the hotel restaurants was terrible and expensive. The carpets thur out the lodge was drity. And there was a funky smell in our room. Smelled very musty. Do not get a room with a loft bed if you have small children. Very unsafe !!!
Review 4:The location is great, we also enjoyed the fireplace
Review 5:The restaurants where closed during our stay. If you wanted something to eat, you needed to go to downtown Helen. However, when we drove to Helen, there were just a few places open. This hotel needs to add at least a fridge and microwave to the rooms for those times when they do not have any food available. If you do not have a car, you will go hungry, because they do not even have a snack machine. In regards to the amenities, if you want to go to the lake or use the tennis courts, etc., you either need a car or have to hike a rough terrain that cannot be done with little kids. In addition, the playground has nothing but 2 slides and monkey bars. That was the only thing available to do with kids. Not worth the money for 1 night. The check in is at 4pm, and by 6pm is already dark, so you cannot even enjoy the state park.
Review 6:The location was outstanding. The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable.
Review 7:Overall, the room appeared to have been cleaned on the surface, but the bathroom had a few long strands of hair stuck to the wall near the door and on the back of the bathroom door, and the door was dirty and needed to be wiped down, which made me question how deep a cleaning had been done on the rest of the bathroom and room. I also thought the price was a bit high for the quality of the accommodations. The room was nice but the decor was a bit dated.
Review 8:The staff at the front desk upon check-in was very nice and helpful. The view of the mountains from our room was excellent and more than I expected. The property is very close to and a very short drive to downtown Helen.
Review 9:The older worn out bathroom fixtures, carpet etc. Also high prices of restaurant.
Review 10:The location and view was great. The rooms were old and worn however pretty clean. There are lots of nice areas to relax.
Review 11:Although the setting of the lodge is beautiful, I was disappointed it wasn't closer to the lake.
Review 12:The staff was very helpful and friendly. Our room was very clean.
Review 13:Room a bit small, read that lodge rooms had been refurbished in 2013 but they must have missed A15 as it needed a bit of an update! Very noisy pump or generator at end of building going all night plus air Con units (why? Windows had mesh so could be left open to cool the room - wasteful Americans!)
Review 14:Location great, beautiful park. Bar good, friendly staff, ok food, nice music.
Review 15:Breakfast buffet items were barely warm. More variety on dinner buffet. Given a room with a handicap shower- did not request. Bathroom floor got very wet each time we showered.
Review 16:Location. Very clean. Gift shop attendant was very friendly and helpful.
Review 17:No vending in our wing. House keeping and maintenance not very good. Room was clean but did not provide coffee, etc. the second morning. No hot water or long time to get warm water. Air conditioner didn't work properly even after maintenance ... work ok but not right. Staff didn't seem to care about guests .... not just us, but in general.
Review 18:The lodge was in a beautiful area. The view from room was good. The grounds seem to have been well kept.
Review 19:Dinner buffet was mediocre at best. Prime rib could not be cut and vegetables were cold. Breakfast buffet was so so. Icemaker did not work in building C Birch Lodge.
Review 20:Lodge is rustic and comfortable. Loved the area and proximity to Anna Ruby Falls as well as Unicoi park facilities. Helen is very close and enjoyable. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 21:Room had ants, and had a musty smell to it. No Sunday evening dining service.
Review 22:Located in natural beauty.Lodge facilities seemed to have been refurbished nicely. Response to ant problem was handled quickly. Liked the lodge atmosphere in the individual "pods."
Review 23:Since you asked... the bathroom was small, (but ok) and we had to carry our luggage a LONG way from our car, even though there was an unloading area that was covered & lit. (good thing since it was pouring rain and dark) Luggage carts would've been VERY helpful. Also, I think check-in time should be 2pm, not 4, so the park and facilities could be enjoyed longer on check-in day.
Review 24:Our room was spacious, and the sitting area of building A was exactly what we were hoping for, as we used it Monday evening and Tuesday morning! The table & chairs were nice and the fireplace made it very cozy since it was raining. :)
Review 25:Beach was not w in walking distance to rooms, Loft's too hot to use in summer, lodges need to be updated more like the main lobby/conference area. Could smell smoke throughout even though room was non smoking.
Review 26:A true lodge experience with inviting common areas in a quiet woodland location with all the amenities of Unicoi Park surrounding it's location. Convenient to Helen, GA while providing a respite from the tourist atmosphere of town.
Review 27:I noticed there were dead roaches in the stairwell and the hall down from our room. They were never cleaned up during our stay.
Review 28:The location was lovely and the beds were very comfortable. I liked that we were on an end unit since I have young kids. We had fresh towels each day.
Review 29:THE BUFFET WAS NOT THE BEST AND WE HAD YOUNG CHILDREN WITH US AND THEY LIKED NOTHING THERE.
Review 30:BREAKFAST WAS GREAT, THE ROOM WAS VERY NICE, KIDS LOVED THE BEACH.
Review 31:Too few staff on duty, restaurant offering was not as expected/described, our room was near an outdoor sitting area where a loud group of people continued to talk and laught loudly until nearly 2 o'clock in the morning (though I'd contacted the front desk a few times and was told that "security is handling it.").
Review 32:Old carpet, moldy bathroom, musty room, high priced for a cheap room, no free continental breakfast. Never been to a hotel that I had to also pay for parking. Recommend you spend $100 a night somewhere else and get 4x better place.
Review 33:Nice woods with walking trails.
Review 34:I couldn't check in until 4 PM and check out was 11 AM.The building setup is terrible. We had to park and walk while dragging our luggage up steps. There was no pool or hot tub to my knowledge. Who knows? The staff was unfriendly. The loft room is a ladder with no bed up there. Too much money for nothing. Not recommended!
Review 35:We Have Rolling Suitcases so with all the Steps and Stairs From Parking lot to our Room. There was Alot of Lifting I Hadn't Planned on and A Lot of walking Back and forth to Load and reload, Since you can't Park in front of your building. Only other Things I noticed was No Microwave or Refrigerator in Rooms, Luckily we Had A Cooler and didn't need to cook or keep leftovers. Our Room door also Quit working. If I had had Small children, I would have been a Wreck. Luckily I had Kids who could Help me carry Everything and Lock the door behind me when I left.We Looked For all the Activia Advertised, But Never saw The Places Marked To Go. Turned around And Went Back to Helen And Spent The Day.
Review 36:Location was Close To Town Of Helen, Where We Wanted to Be. My 13 Year Daughter went Super Crazy over the Loft Bed She Got to Sleep in, Leaving my Son and I to get our Own Double Beds To ourselves!
Review 37:Horrible moldy smell in building and room. No hot water Weak internet or at times no internet Dirty Carpet Dirty Bathroom Loud slamming doors late at night Bugs To go breakfast and coffee not available in restaurant
Review 38:Had several different cashier/hostess @ the Restaurant over a 3 night stay and although one was very friendly was kind of air-headed. Moved very slowly, took forever to get seated or the check out after meal. While the other never greeted you with a smile, always looked like she hated being there. ( I actually think she was management.)
Review 39:The view was the best!!! Especially from our room!!
Review 40:The room we were initially assigned to had not been cleaned. We found that it was more efficient to walk down to the front desk with any problems or concerns because our phone calls went unanswered for several minutes.
Review 41:When we visited Unicoi Lodge, there were recent renovations and some still in progress. Our room had been recently painted and had new bedding. As a state park, the preservation of natural scenery, multiple trails, and wildlife viewing were all appealing to our family.
Review 42:The reservation on file at front desk had us checking in the day after we arrived. Thank goodness I had our confirmation on my phone because they were almost at full capacity. They cleared mistake and put us in same type room we had reserved.
Review 43:The view of the mountains were beautiful from our room. The property was well maintained and easily accessible and the price for our room was reasonable.
Review 44:Loft isn't really a loft it's a mates on the floor and a ladder.
Review 45:Loved the location and seclusion. just the right distance from the busy streets of helen
Review 46:Our room had a dirty towel hanging on the bathroom door when we arrived. The room was adequate but the bathroom was not in ver good shape at all.
Review 47:The view was amazing.
Review 48:Water pressure is a little low but if u read the signs it lets you know that it's like that to conserve water. Which is awesome and they are a state park so doing whats good for the environment is great
Review 49:Beautiful and peaceful. Great place to go and get away either as a family or as a romantic get away.
Review 50:They messed up my reservations. Charged my card 2 days prior to arrival & didn't take fault for it. They resolved the problem but it took several people & about an hour to do so.
Review 51:Cleanliness of the lodge was our only complaint. Overall, fantastic place to stay & visit- but could use a thorough / deep cleaning.
Review 52:Beautiful scenery, convenient location.
Review 53:It would have been nice to have been told that there was no food service on Monday. This just happened to come up in talking with the tavern server and asking about services. Room was not among those updated...tired 1970's furniture, wallpaper in bathroom tearing, stained. Not enough electrical outlets. The one by the floor lamp wasnt tight enough to hold most plugs. A mirror in the room would be nice, standard most places. Was able to write " dust me" on the base of the TV...Liner for water bucket was remover but not replaced
Review 54:Tim at the front desk was personable and helpful. The young lady server in the tavern was very good. Good location. Amazing natural beauty
Review 55:I wish that they had a room with a queen or king bed.
Review 56:I liked the fact that it was NOT a franchise hotel in Helen. It was very quiet, had a nice 40" flat screen TV, practically instant hot water, 10 mins from Helen, and centrally located to a half dozen nearby waterfalls.
Review 57:Don't be confused by the pictures the property and rooms alittle outdated, the bathrooms need to be remodeled and water pressure is very weak. On a note the room was very dusty and need a to be cleaned a little better.
Review 58:The location was awesome with great views and since it was off thee road in the forest there is no traffic or outside noise.
Review 59:TV reception needs improvement. Screen was "fuzzy." But we didn't watch that much TV preferring to spend our time at the Fireside Craft Show and exploring the woods and water.
Review 60:The staff. And the location. The breakfast buffet was very good.
Review 61:The restaurant on site was closed at 8:30 on a Friday night and we were forced to go offsite. Also breakfast stops being served right at 10. We were able to get some toast, but it cost $3 a piece.
Review 62:NOT ANY THING WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN.I HAVE STAYED THERE OVER THE YEARS STARTING IN 1975 WHEN THE STATE OF GEORIGA RAN THE PLACE (I WILL NEVER STAY WITH YOU AGAIN
Review 63:NOT ANY THING WILL NOT STAY THERE AGAIN I HAVE STAYED THERE MANY TIMES CAMPING WITH MY STARTED IN 1975
Review 64:Everything was from good to excellent.
Review 65:I like many things in the Lodge: the beautiful environment, the design of the facility, the comfort and spacious of the spaces, the view, the courtesy of the staff, the restaurant, and the affordable prices. My family enjoy our stay there and we will back as soon as we can. Great place to be.
Review 66:It is an older facility and it showed mostly in the bathroom. Nothing bad but it will need updating soon.
Review 67:Clean and comfortable. Very reasonably priced considering the holiday. Great location. Liked the layout of the lodge.
Review 68:wife is handicap. unloading area to unit B was long. In the rain. Rm. was not for a handicapped person. moved to unit D .better but heating unit went out .used a portable unit for heat. Very unhappy with our stay.
Review 69:nothing !!
Review 70:Staff was very helpful when asked for information, but there were w few (pleasant) surprises that they failed to tell about. These were special features associated with the holiday weekend.
Review 71:Food, service and accommodations were good to excellent. Setting is super. T'giving meal - everything was good, but nothing was a standout dish.
Review 72:No working ice machine in Buildings B,C,and D. Difficulty getting hot water for shower then got a weak drizzle. Not good. That was in C building. Dim lighting made for a scary walk looking for ice.
Review 73:Stephanie at the desk was an angel to get us the help we needed to repair our car. The new look for the dining room was so pleasant.
Review 74:Our room had horrific odor of sewerage. Staff said probably due to recent backup of sewer. We had to keep windows open and heat on to breathe. It looked like some tile work had been done in bathroom and left unfinished. It's a shame that this facility in it's beautiful setting has been allowed to deteriorate.
Review 75:Staff was really wonderful and kind. They were doing the best they could with the facility problems.
Review 76:We were dissatisfied with our initial room and the staff was very accommodating with our request for a different room, which was was very comfortable. We would stay there again.
Review 77:The cost of the lodge restaurant - overpriced for the average family.
Review 78:Great location near many sights and activities. Many planned events and displays at the lodge.
Review 79:The lodge is currently being renovated and is a mess. Full price should not be charged. Our room had two full size beds and felt cramped. Things were not very clean.
Review 80:Beautiful surroundings
Review 81:If you only have one bag to unload it's OK but since I had a few it was a little difficult. The "unloading zone" is still a long ways from the room, the closer areas put you going through multiple doors and up stairs (no elevator). Although it was really fine for me it would be a challenge for someone with limited mobility. The "loft" section of the room was pretty much wasted space as it was quite high with a completely vertical ladder.
Review 82:The staff were amazing, helpful with everything I needed and all very friendly. The meals were exceptional, ended up eating there a lot more than I expected. The view from my room was very nice, and the area spectacular for nature lovers, lots of outdoor activities.
Review 83:Beds uncomfortable, no microwave, no refrigerator, difficult to unload luggage and carry it to lodge, too many hills/steps to climb. Should have a cart for luggage.
Review 84:Serinity
Review 85:The room had no microwave or refrigerator, the heat didn't work and loud, weird, banging noises throughout the night, not from people though, maybe from the pipes. The tv quality wasn't great.
Review 86:The breakfast in the restaurant was great and so was our server. The view was nice, (except for the wasp nest in the window on the left).
Review 87:The room. TV didn't work, beds were hard. The place was run down.
Review 88:The location. The blue grass music on Sat. night. I'm was glad to hear that they were redoing the rooms.
Review 89:We got the last room available when we booked our reservation & stayed 5 nights. We were on the second floor (which we liked), but there was no elevator. I am fighting cancer. It was hard always climbing stairs, especially with all our luggage & packages when we shopped. We did not want to move downstairs, as we liked the upper view and opening our windows during the nights. An elevator should be installed at the end of each building. Buffet prices were too high.
Review 90:It was quiet most of the time. We hit a slow week, between bikers week and a high school function. It was nice for us. Staff was friendly and helpful when needed. We enjoyed our stay and recommend the lodge to others.
Review 91:Hard to take luggage up to 2nd floor in Ash building. Ice machine not convenient for people on 2nd floor. Would only give about 2 cups ice. Coffee left in coffee pot, cleaning supplies left in room. Refrigerator would be helpful for rooms not close to ice machine.
Review 92:Close to all activities Very quite Loved beds very comfortable
Review 93:The shower was a bit hard to manage, but no big deal.
Review 94:I liked the location and the wealth of information available about the area. The room was nice and people friendly and helpful.
Review 95:I feel like the prices in the dining facility have gotten out of hand. This is not a good value, the nearby Helen isn't any better.
Review 96:Locale is great, with an abundance of things to do.
Review 97:nothing
Review 98:the location was great to all the amenities that Helen offers..tubing,zip line, wilderness in the park, fishing ,falls, everyone had a great time kids loved the loft.. while traveling we like to stay at state parks,,,they offer so much
Review 99:Unavailability of early morning coffee on lobby or for purchase. Food portions for breakfast too large.
Review 100:Spotless housekeeping and grounds keeping. Beautiful building and location.
Review 101:Didn't find anything during my one night stay that was not right.
Review 102:Scenic location with excellent facilities and easy access to park trail system. Proximity to Alpine Helen without being to close to the chaos make this a great place to stay.
Review 103:Water was turned off and promised to be turned back on and wasn't. Electricity was also turned off. The facility should have been closed for construction. We were forced to find other hotel at 9:00 pm with a baby.
Review 104:Location
Review 105:No hot water; they did have water issues, but we were not told until "after the fact". Staff did give discount for water issues, but N. Ga cold showers are NOT fun!
Review 106:Location good. Staff helpful.
Review 107:That your Buffett meals aren't available during the week days anymore. We missed them.
Review 108:The natural setting is beautiful. Trails are very good. Buildings and grounds well kept.
Review 109:The loft was nice. Bathroom a little small. And my daughters had a fit when we found a roach. Overall it was nice except how far we had to walk to the car
Review 110:I had a few black ants in my room but I didn't notify the staff because we were only there for 2 days.
Review 111:I am so glad that I chose Unicoi Lodge as oppose to the hotels in Helen, Ga. This place is amazing ! Quiet and very serene! Clean rooms and friendly staff. The food in the restaurant was good too, you have to try the fresh trout and sweet potatoe fries! I will definitely be staying at this place again. I had a wonderful stay.
Review 112:I apparently misunderstood, but I thought the loft was a sitting area with a view of the lake. Instead, I found a very, very steep ladder that led to a tiny room with a double mattress on the floor.
Review 113:the public areas within the lodge are spacious and provide ample room for groups as well as for the solo traveller.
Review 114:It was a bit hot sleeping in the loft. Maybe a ceiling fan outside the loft area would move the air around and be very helpful.
Review 115:The park, the lodge was nice despite its age.
Review 116:Nothing
Review 117:Pretty view
Review 118:Overpriced rooms.
Review 119:Location great.
Review 120:small cramped room
Review 121:Restaurant on site was closed almost the entire time we were there.
Review 122:Amazing view of the mountains and so close to amazing trails.
Review 123:A little musty and dated.
Review 124:Up graded for no apparent reason. Great staff. GREAT view!!! Parking close. Hiking trails close.
Review 125:Amazing view!
Review 126:Shower water pressure could be a little higher.
Review 127:Need more channels on tv and room service
Review 128:The lodge and food were great
Review 129:Two bedroom cottage and only one TV
Review 130:comfort and cleanliness
Review 131:Water took at least 20 mins to get warm in room. It's a known issue at facility. Beds needed more pillows.
Review 132:The area and facility was beautiful!
Review 133:Needed extra pillows
Review 134:the fact that I was close to all attractions but not in the middle of the tourist
Review 135:The room was very small and smelled real bad for the money it was not worth the stay
Review 136:We have been to Unicoi previously. We were very disappointed in the restaurant food.
Review 137:The physical surroundings were beautiful.
