Reviews for Ace Motel

Review 1:The tv didn't work. The couch was dirty and had a visible layer of soot. The manager gave us a hard time when we requested to check out a day early.

Review 2:The location was really close to the UT campus and down the street from some good restaurants.

Review 3:We took our own bed sheets but the ones they had seemed fine, but notgreat. We also took our own towels although the ones they had were"ok" perhaps a bit used. In either case with our own bedsheetand towels we were quite comfortable and content and slept very well. Noone was screaming and the area seemed ok enough. Just don't expect ahotel. This is a motel, expect a motel and you'll be fine.

Review 4:Location location location.. Average cost of a uber was about $7-8 torainy street or 6th street. If you don't plan to spend much time in your room it's not too bad. It's not the best place but the bathroom was clean and we kept our socks in the room. Somewhere quiet to sleep at night. Was $100 to $200 less a night compared to surrounding hotels.

Review 5:A bit noisy as it's right next to the main road.

Review 6:Very welcoming owner and staff. Great location, bus stops are right across the street. And Ace is walking distance from great neighborhood food.

Review 7:The man running it was rude. We got a non smoking room, because we are not smokers. During check in he kept telling us we can't smoke in the room, that we only can smoke outside. I kept telling him that we don't smoke and he just keep saying you can not smoke in the room.

Review 8:It was clean and comfortable.

Review 9:*The A/C window unit mounted through the wall was so anoyingly loud that it made for a very poor sleep experience. *The room smelled like body order. *The bathroom door didn't have a door latch so it couldn't be shut. *the floor was dirty along with the shower walls. *There are less single parking spaces than there are rooms so if you don't get to park within the compound you have to park down the road and walk to the hotel.

Review 10:It had a full line up of TV channels

Review 11:No coffee makers in room nor in the lobby. No breakfast offered. Wished restroom in our room was bigger.

Review 12:The owner was so very very nice and helpful. Very nice location, within walking distance to a great little sports bar and grill where the food was good.

Review 13:The cable signal was iffy, and I've heard the wifi is a bit slow. The doors are not very sturdy, so take care of valuables.

Review 14:For the price, the place was exactly what I expected: a place to rest and unwind a bit after a long day of sightseeing. The staff was very nice, the rooms were clean, and the area is walkable. It's no Hilton, but the price is fair and worth it.

Review 15:Any of it

Review 16:The owner screamed at me as soon as I told him I had a reservation. The place was horrible. Dirty and the owner came in and out of my room like he was allowed.

Review 17:No coffeemaker in room or in front lobby.

Review 18:The owner was very nice and friendly. When we were getting into our car to leave he asked us if our stay was ok.

Review 19:Looks a little shady when you first see it.

Review 20:Clean rooms!! GREAT management, the owner and his son are so helpful and there for whatever. Super easy going. Across the street is the cutest little local grocery health market, great food. Walking distance to yummy restaurants and coffee places. In an area that's currently being gentrified and its so cute!

Review 21:Everything look stained. Had to bring my own sheets and blanket from what I read from others

Review 22:For the price and the location, it was fair for a 1 night stay if you're on budget. Good distance from downtown. Owner was nice and helpful. Had cable

Review 23:First, it was difficult to book. Second, the staff was rude and unpleasant. Third, it rained the majority of the weekend, and with the storm came a power outage from 8:30pm until late the next morning. That night I asked the staff if there was any update on when the electricity would be on (as it was warm without A/C) and I was told the power was out everywhere, yet the neighboring gas station had power...? I was then questioned on why I was barefooted and told that I was going to ruin his carpet... ummm it was flooded! There was a river running through the parking lot and I only had slippery sandals! I was not offered a discount, and I was completely appalled by the rudeness of the "staff" (which was one guy!) It was a cheaper motel, but really not worth the money! Do not go to this motel for any reason!

Review 24:ummm, the other guests

Review 25:The tv seemed to be new also but, any room with no table and no coffeepot is waaay over-priced at $95 plus tax!

Review 26:The manager was most helpful and very friendly. He broke out a brand newmicrowave for us.

Review 27:The owner was very friendly we could even check in before check in time! The room was a bit dated but clean Wifi worked not all the time but who needs that when on vacation ;) there is a laundry and a shop next door and restaurants in walking distance.

Review 28:Pillows flat, could have been better, although I'm sure if we had asked for more we would have gotten some. Towels were somewhat small but still very effective. WiFi was in a certain spot of the hotel and from where we were it could be hard to access, but once I got my laptop near the router to initially connect to it it worked from my room, I just generally kept the door open while using it because it worked much better.

Review 29:We were greeted on our stay to an older man who was the very cheery owner and always willing to help us throughout our stay. He even gave us an extra hour for check out! Newly updated bathroom was very nice, room had cozy feel to it. Bed was firm when I first sat on it but worked just fine for sleeping. Fridge was very cold, microwave worked great. A/C was very straightforward, easy to use for heat and cold. Awesome location right across from local market and next to convenient store, walking distance to many points of interest. Would definitely stay again if ever in the area.

Review 30:No bad experience just sheets & towels were old & thread bare. Would recommend bringing an extra towel & a bar of soap. Flip flops to wear on older carpet. Very basic value for money but cheapest in area. If you just need a room to sleep in works fine. Much better than it looks upon forts impression.

Review 31:Room was clean. Close to downtown. Parking was in off the street so felt safe for car. Air conditioning worked fine. Cooled room quickly. No problem on later check in. Room reservations were handled & held corectely.

Review 32:-it's nothing to eat in this area, except mexican food -they don't even change towels daily -wifi was simply not working -it's dirty

Review 33:nothing

Review 34:Had to go outside room to pickup WiFi signal.

Review 35:Bed and TV worked fine. Standard fridge, which La Quinta near the Capitol didn't offer. Clean room. Basic, inexpensive lodging.

Review 36:it isn't located in the best neighborhood, which was somewhat worrisome, but was a good value. other nearby accommodations were 3x-4x more costly.

Review 37:The proprietor was great--very friendly and helpful. Our room was very small, basic, but quite clean. The Ace is just 5 minutes fro LBJ Library and UT

Review 38:Owners are doing their best to keep their property updated with new paint inside and outside, new air conditioners, good bed, granite bathroom counter, microwave, refrigerator, and (small) flatscreen tv. However, there were old towels and no coffee.

Review 39:The bathroom window was secured with a stick. HA! The bed was not clean there were hairs in it and cigarette burns. We had trouble connecting to the WiFi, but they were helpful about it tho. Their toilet paper was VERY bad quality and there was no toilet paper dispenser. It was just on the sink. I didn't mind but its not what i expected from a motel.

Review 40:Nice people Outside looked nice a good location

Review 41:Located in a quiet neighbourhood, possibilities to go out for a cup of coffee or a nice dinner. If you don't have a car it's easy to get Downtown by bus. Yes, it is a bit old fashioned decorated but who cares - price (for what you get) is excellent! Very clean! Before you stop in any Motel6, Super8.... located next to the highway please choose Ace, you won't regret!

Review 42:One of the towels on my fourth and last night had two one inch holes.Heating was pre-adjusted to around 72-73 degrees The guests should havethe option to choose the room temperature even though Ace motel claimsto have heating in their rooms

Review 43:Clean, well maintained, helpful staff, fairly priced, close to downtown, steps from a take-out called Taco-Mex and a grocery store for basicscalled rbm. Overall I'll return and stay at the motel Ace for thenext f1 race in 2015. Great city! (Austin, Tex). Austinites overall, arevery nice and courteous people.

Review 44:Basic place but everything you need.

Review 45:Great location if you don't want to pay to stay downtown. Fab local organic cafe across the road for breakfast. Great bars 2 mins walk away.

Review 46:The technology at the hotel was slightly out dated, therefore we had to carry a key with a hotel tag on it. In terms of traveling convenience it did not change much but having a card for swipe entry would be slightly better. But again, for the price of the hotel there is not much to complain about in terms of the excellent service you receive back.

Review 47:I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. At first glance, I could understand why one would be hesitant to stay at the hotel due to the fact that the facility is open and all the rooms open to the parking lot. The owners were nice and the price for being that close to the campus was amazing. We stayed in Austin for even across town, meaning we could drive a couple miles and park our car in a secure location before taking the inexpensive public transportation. Would recommend this hotel to any young couples or singles who are looking to save some money while still having a great experience with their hotel stay.

Review 48:recently rehab property, manufactures sticker still on shower, unpainted trim, scuffed entryway/stick-on tile. electric outlet in bathroom did not work, other vacant outlets non-existent. ghetto at $125 per night. man and wife proprietors, woman was rude, man's broken English was difficult to understand. basic cable, no phone in room, property ascetically unsatisfying. web site stated, "one room left", BS. just say no!

Review 49:close to downtown

Review 50:bank teller like check in . need for this made us feel insecure about auto and leaving room contents unguarded…..overall a step below most national chains due to age and local working class neighborhood not typical local for lodging of this type foot traffic made us a bit ….scared…..

Review 51:clean many updates but overall an aging property vintage old school tv.10 channels 4 spanish. close to restaurants and best rate any where near campus room small bedding new whole place looked like it had under gone a recent clean up parking off street but tight bars and eateries within walking distance 1 or 2 blocks not upscale mostly collage crowd locals

Review 52:No pool, tv stations a little fuzzy. No good food delivery options.

Review 53:Two bus stops out front, $1.50 to sixth/Rainey street and $2.50 to airport. $10 cab ride downtown. Haymakers down the road is good for lunch/ dinner and taco-mex next door at the gas station is awesome for breakfast. Owner and family are very nice, room was nicer than the pic (#110) and the shower was good. Cold A/C, nice microwave and mini fridge. Cool market across the street. Perfect east/central location.

Review 54:Air conditioning very loud and bad insulation, so at night you can choose between loud and cool or silent and hot. Reception not very professional, not recommended if traveling for business. Good enough if you need a cheap place to stay.

Review 55:Cheap; fridge and microwave available. Location is OK and everything can be reached by public transportation.

Review 56:Towels very yellow .. bath quite dirty. A handtowel and facecloth were all I could comfortably use. Found a long hair on pillowcase.

Review 57:Located not too far from downtown .. old but clean and nice area with interesting restaurants within walking distance. Owner very genial and friendly. Good air conditioning which cooled room very quickly.

Review 58:Mostly little things...the pillows weren't my style of fluff...the door key stuck...the AC was all or nothing...the lighting was eco-flourescent and garish...I didn't spend much time there other than sleep, so it was not bad at all. These are not complaints, just observations.

Review 59:This place is in walking distance to the stadium, near good restaurants in a clean neighborhood. The property is well lit and well kept. A great value in a no-frills accommodation.

Review 60:The room was clean, well decorated and fitted out, the location is great with some good places to eat and drink nearby in a hip neighbourhood. The staff wee very friendly and helpful. It was also a quite place and very comfortable. Most importantly superb value for money

Review 61:Great way to save money if visiting Austin. Cost me about $12 round trip to get to Sixth Street and back using Uber. Saved hundreds of dollars compared to closer hotels. Room was nice, clean and quiet.

Review 62:I had zero cell signal in my room and had to stand in the middle of theparking lot to make a call. That's unacceptable in a city this size.Couldn't believe it. Also, the Wi-Fi was very weak. It was onlyusable in the bathroom while standing next to the small window there.Owner says Uverse is supposed to replace modem but at the time of myvisit this had not been done. Also, the floors were dirty: after gettingout of the shower and puttering around the room barefoot for a fewmoments, I noticed my feet getting dirty! I didn't say anything;just wore flip-flops n the room.

Review 63:The gentleman who checked me in was fabulous and very helpful. The roomwas no frills but comfy and cool. Manor Street has some funky bars andrestaurants super close so if you don't feel like driving in astrange city you don't have to. However, 6th Street is a pretty easydrive over surface streets and parking isn't as difficult as Ianticipated. So all in all a great location fr the money.

Review 64:The rate doesn't go down during the work days.

Review 65:Access to bus line.

Review 66:Nothing

Review 67:The owner was very friendly, and even let us have a late check out.

Review 68:Too expensive.

Review 69:Good location. Clean. Wi-Fi and TV included.

Review 70:rude behavior of staff. old dirty walls and doors.

Review 71:a bit close to downtown.

Review 72:Location close to University of Texas.

Review 73:Owner is very nice and accommodating. Very friendly and love the neighborhood.

Review 74:Room was very clean, the guy running the place was very helpful. Short taxi ride to the center of town.

Review 75:Nothing was too bad. It was exactly what I paid for.

Review 76:Easy, cheap place to sleep between Austin City Limits festivities!

Review 77:Room was a touch grubby n the shower was really poor

Review 78:Great location n friendly staff

Review 79:Location to the University of Texas.

Review 80:The parking lot is a little small. And they don't offer breakfast or have coffeepots in the rooms.

Review 81:The owner was very friendly and helpful.

Review 82:No breakfast and no wifi.

Review 83:The price was very reasonable. The rooms were very clean.

Review 84:Very noisy AC

Review 85:Very cheap, well located, good staff, free parking.

Review 86:wifi spotty, but functional.

Review 87:location

Review 88:Trash WiFi.maids never came to clean. Charged me weekend rate for week day.

Review 89:Great location. Super nice staff

Review 90:The hotel host was rude and walked in our room while I was undressed. Very unprofessional and not helpful.

Review 91:The rooms are nice and well kept.

Review 92:No power/lights for the entire night. No backup generator available too. No one to even answer what was going on.

Review 93:The toilets didn't work as well. The smell in the room. The location was far from the areas and not worth it.

Review 94:Staff was very helpful and friendly!

Review 95:Very nice and helpful staff. Great comfort

Review 96:The bed was nasty the floor was nasty. Not a place I will visit again or recommend. Almost 100 a night for a dump.

Review 97:Location

Review 98:Great value for a weekend getaway. Nice food stands a few blocks away.

Review 99:A short, pleasant walk to the University of Texas, and a mere $1.25 bus ride from the airport.

Review 100:the wifi works, but it aint great

Review 101:owner is super helpful

Review 102:No breakfast

Review 103:Mr Bob the manger is helpful

Review 104:The Wifi was so bad it was non-existant

Review 105:Great location, quiet motel

Review 106:Most helpful staff, spartan if simplicity but very clean In proximity to UT. Would recommend.

Review 107:the wi-fi was a bit weak on some spots..

Review 108:the Staff was Friendly, Polite and very helpful. The location is awesome får this price !!!

Review 109:was a little expensive for a motel like that.

Review 110:maybe location.

Review 111:Everything stank Wifi didn't work Cost way too much Bed sucked

Review 112:The door locked The TV worked

Review 113:Towels were too small.

Review 114:Staff was available when needed.

Review 115:The guy working the night shift was very rude and argumentative.

Review 116:It was quick and easy to get in and out.

Review 117:The sheets weren't so clean and the air-conditioning was a bit noisy.

Review 118:Helpful staff, clean toilet.

Review 119:Bad wifi-conncetion and a bit far from the downtown - too far to walk anyway, and the bus was only every half an hour.

Review 120:Good cheep price!

Review 121:The towels are super absorbent, but perhaps some bigger bath towels for drying off after a shower would be nice. Seriously, that is all I can fault ... guess that is why we keep going back !!

Review 122:We stayed at Ace Motel in March and had no hesitation in returning there for a recent stay in June. The rooms are clean and many have been newly painted and have upgraded bathrooms. The bed is firm, the pillows fantastic, the air conditioning works a treat - cool and quiet - and the fridge and microwave are in great condition too. Though the motel backs onto a main road the rooms are quiet with no traffic noise, and the location is fantastic so close to the university and a strip of restaurants and shops. Ace Motel is our only go to in Austin.

Review 123:Couldn't have visitors while staying there. Wifi signal was not very good. Kept fading in and out. TV was really old old school and couldn't connect my electronics to it at all.

Review 124:The ghetto action takin place in other rooms while there was a little bit entertaining. But annoying!

Review 125:Ace Motel exceeded my expectations. I found it to be clean, quiet, and safe (I was there as a solo female traveler). I was also impressed that there was a mini fridge and microwave in the room, which was completely unexpected given the price point of the hotel. I would stay there again if I return to Austin.

Review 126:Wifi is painfully slow - we had to stick to 4G on our phones. Could barely post a facebook status from the room! I get the impression there might have been one router for the whole place, so maybe some rooms are better than others. Also, on our second night there we heard an argument a couple rooms down, and a female ended up being locked out of her room, partially unclothed and very drunk. The owner called the police immediately and within 10 minutes the situation was diffused. So this is a negative since it happened, but a positive that it was dealt with quickly.

Review 127:This hotel was perfect for the price. We were a couple traveling friends who had no need to spend much time in a hotel. This hotel was spotless - i could see that it was well cared for, newly painted, and saw the owner and his son diligently cleaning out some of the other rooms. The location is awesome, near some really great local bars/restaurants and RIGHT on the bus line, #20 will take you right through campus and to the Capitol in about 9 minutes, stop is right across the street. While amenities were basic (soaps and shampoo, no conditioner/lotion) it's exactly what i expected for this bargain price. Staff was friendly and I felt safe.

Review 128:Wish the rooms were as clean as the parking lot. Our shower curtain had mold on it, the covers looked like they had mold on the too. A.C. did not work good at all, the room was warm and muggy. The refrigerator inside the room didn't cool good enough and lastly before our check out I was unable to shower due to no water pressure. Apparently somone broke a shower handle that caused them to shut the water off. If they updated the inside of the rooms they would have a good motel. We will not be staying there again.

Review 129:You get what you pay for. The parking lot was very clean and the location of the motel is close to a lot of places to eat.

Review 130:This was a very affordable and basic hotel which is exactly what i was looking for on a short trip to Austin where most of my time was going to be spent away from the room.
