Reviews for Velina Spa Hotel

Review 1:The breakfast food was quite poor. The room smelled of cigarette smoke. Unaccessable without a personal vehincle.

Review 2:Very polite and helpful staff. The spa facilities were clean and nice.

Review 3:The only drawback was that there was no available massage appointments for full hour sessions! The location is a bit outside of town – you would need a car to get easily into town and the neighborhood is maybe a little discomforting for an untrained traveler. Nothing to worry about though. I also wished the water temperature was a bit higher! At 30C/85F it was pleasant but not sweltering ahhh inducing that I’d thing about in a mineral spring… A hotter pool would have been especially nice outside, for under-the-stars/by-the-pine-forest enjoyment. The bed is the European special – two single beds pushed in together – but nothing that could stop a willing duo.

Review 4:When I was doing research, I checked the hotel’s own website and saw its history dating back a good few dozen years back. I was fairly hesitant to book here knowing that the place had operated for a number of years, since Communist times, but the price was good so we went for it. I was expecting something gray and underwhelming akin to my memories of similar properties in Bulgaria’s mountains and seashore, and boy was I wrong! The only thing that remains form the 1960s building is probably the shell and its location everything was new, sleek, and well-done. The place was clean and open, the room large enough, the bed comfortable. I enjoyed the spa amenities (the massage was EXCELLENT), the pools nice large and clean, the steam room relaxing. The breakfast buffet had an impressive spread, and the views overlooking the town beneath were aOK with me. The people were friendly and helpful, and I was pleased with how pleasant a surprise this experience (and the town) was! Overall it was an excellent stay!

Review 5:The mattresses need replacing. The room was not thoroughly cleaned...dust in corners and top fridge door for example. The reception staff, especially a woman with long blond hair was unwelcoming. The dining room staff tried much harder.

Review 6:Being next to the forest. The outdoor and indoor swimming pools are great and a good size to actually swim.

Review 7:Some rude staff Breakfast Pool spring water is rather warm, not hot

Review 8:Large warm outdoor pool Pine forest next to hotel 1st time in Bulgaria, I loved the nature Professional and cheap massage

Review 9:Nice but heavy furniture, which does not allow one to move from one sideof the room to the other side. Small, uncomfortable bathroom anddifficult to get in and out. Avoid booking a ground floor rooms, some ofwhich face grey concrete wall and nothing else, like prison cells. Wewere forced to pay another 36% more in order to have a normalroom..AVOID Having any contact with a redhead lady called Krasimira, incharge of the reception. She treats guests with rude behaviour, as itused to be in the Communist period of Bulgaria. The hotel is far 4-5 km.From town center, and -unless you have a car - you have to call a taxieach time you want to visit there.

Review 10:Well designed hotel, located in the forest. Medium-sized room with nicebalcony. Outdoor swimming pool, large indoor (8 x 12 m) pool and bigjacuzzi. Good breakfast. Nice view of the forest from the balcony.

Review 11:very weak wifi reception, not professional brekfast service, matresses should be renewed, lack of drinking water in internal pool area and or spa area,no cofee maker in the rooms, general tear and wear in some areas

Review 12:The front desk and spa personell, spa facilities, polls, location, cleaniness, quiteness,

Review 13:Approach to hotel via pot-holed road through unpleasant area. Hotel stairs down from reception were not well lit. Restaurant meals on both nights arrived cold and had to be sent back.

Review 14:Pools. Communal areas. Decor. Room size. Woodland setting. Good restaurant food (when hot). Pleasant staff.

Review 15:Breakfast is not as 4 star hotel should be, no local seasonal grownfood, No honey, no Mountain Tea, no butter, cheese, all is from metro.

Review 16:Hot water - outer pool Spa center

Review 17:We were left on our own to solve a problem with a three generations family who were very noisy in the swimming pool and were disturbing the other guests. The price in the restaurant was about double what one would pay in Velingrad, but maybe thanks to that we have never had problems to get a free table.

Review 18:I believe the best placed hotel in Velingrad. We will surely come back.

Review 19:Les matelas sont un peu trop mous.

Review 20:Le service partout à l'hôtel est excellent. On a beaucoup aimé la nourriture, les piscines, les chambres et la politesse du personnel. Définitivement, on y retournera.

Review 21:- the music around the pool, kept looping same and same hits all day during our stay - restaurant is a bit expensive

Review 22:- the hotel itself together with the nature and flowers all around. - the pool is great! - sauna is good - the staff was lovely

Review 23:Needs some improvements to attract tourists other than Russians: First, there was no guide, or at least map of the city. Second - there was no information about the ingredients and the curing properties of the mineral water. Third -although the quality of the breakfast was not bad (coffee and jus excluded), it's presentation was far from delightful.

Review 24:Excellent location, combination of mountain, mineral water, spa facilities. Quiet place, friendly staff.

Review 25:The personal wasn't very polite. The hygiene was poor - there was dust on the shelves, small mold spots around the bathtub and the mirrors were not cleaned lately.

Review 26:We liked the outside swimming pool, because it was warm even when outside was a little bit cold. The SPA prices are normal and the sauna has a lot of extras. The message quality is great - done by professionals.

Review 27:The hairdryer in the room fell apart as I was using it, lightining in room and bathroom was too dim, road to hotel is full of holes, and bearing in mind taxi to city centre costs 4lv one way, guests' only option for lunch and dinner is the overpriced restaurant in the hotel...

Review 28:The water in both pools was always warm, the premises were clean and breakfast was great.

Review 29:The dinner service and food in the restaurant were abominable - avoid.

Review 30:Both indoor and outdoor pools are fine, outdoor water temperature too hot for swimming, though.

Review 31:We had a nice spacious room with a balcony overlooking the tranquil pine forest. However at night there was a generator type humming sound which disturbed my sleep.Could not find the source of this noise in the room so may have been coming from outside or from another floor. This was the only negative point in an otherwise fabulous stay.

Review 32:Mineral pools and jacuzzi were clean warm and well maintained and very relaxing.Lots of other facilities and treatments available although we didn't use all of them.Enjoyed the evening meals in restaurant.

Review 33:1.wet floors around pool(pooling water never attended to at all, just left although a person occasionally came and sat on a chair from time to time. 2. No one appeared to check on a regular basis all the facilities or rooms(sauna, steam room etc) 3. The dressing gowns had not been replaced in a number of years and were showing wear and tear. 4 The plates in the dining room were heavily chipped and should not be used in this state. 5. One or two staff only were surly and not sympathetic to a customers needs (not suitable for front of house) 6. The grounds were tired and looked unloved and could do with some attention(staff may need to be tasked differently and incentivised properly) 7. There was sufficient staff but not led properly or may need there job to be described more fully in the context of customer experience and satisfaction from a customer point of view. 8. The woods and the lakes are an integral part of the Velina experience and should be treated as such. 9. All areas within the grounds should be treated as if they were on display in the hotel foyer( therefore they should not be overlooked when cleaning, painting, repairing, tidying, remember your customers can see these things also!! Unloved.) 10. Think in world terms of customers. Love yourself first and look after what you have got. Others will hear about it and will seek you out.

Review 34:The facilities were excellent, but in terms of staff training only in some areas, needs to be critically looked into to bring it up to par with the outside world, not all stayers are Bulgarian, the hotel needs outside eyes,to see these areas. (this is my third time to stay there in ten years) (I only have the establishments best interests at heart)

Review 35:Jacuzzi was broken one morning.

Review 36:I liked the swimming pool area which was mostly fairly quiet and relaxing (we stayed midweek at the end of April). Room was spacious. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty.

Review 37:Hardly anyone wears swimming caps in the pool and we were constantly getting handfuls of long hairs caught up in our hands as we were swimming. It's very easy to enforce swimming caps - just sell them at the entrance to the swimming pool! That's what hotels in Sofia do anyway!

Review 38:Excellent location right next to the forest. Two large pools inside and outside. Very good restaurant and polite, helpful and friendly staff in the restaurant and the hotel.

Review 39:The wifi was diabolical... Far worst then ever before; The music remains the same every single day on one stay - and that is for 5 th year running?! The restaurant is at new low - serves frozen BBQ - my meatball had a piece of cheese in the middle not melted..?!?

Review 40:The size of the swimming pools, the new sauna facilities, the spacious steam room, the view from our room's balcony, the smell of the pines...and fireplace. The mineral water!

Review 41:The water in the outside pool was way too cold to swim and the inside pool was way too hot and the air there was muggy.

Review 42:Love the location of this dream hotel!

Review 43:The bed covers/duvets were too short for my husband who could not cover himself properly (either his feet or shoulders were sticking out) and thus he could not sleep and kept turning and trying to cover himself. Also, it may be a good idea to have slippers in every room, we had to go bare-feet to the outdoor pool the first day, later we asked at the spa and were given slippers, but it would have been more convenient if they were placed in the room. However, we really enjoyed our stay in this hotel and are looking forward to our next visit.

Review 44:I loved the outdoor swimming pool, it was so peaceful and warm, swimming there in November with relaxing music playing the forest surrounding it. I also loved the massage I got there, the lady (Gulabina) was obviously well trained and very skillful. I also liked the fact that the hotel was so warm everywhere.

Review 45:Breakfast is ok the first morning but after 3 days, we started to be fed up with the same food...

Review 46:location on a hill, close to the forests, mineral water pool (30C+) Very peacefull nights. Velingrad is reputated for his excellent climate Possibility to work everywhere in the complex thanks to a strong wifi signal. Any time in the year a great place to relax

Review 47:All perfect. We are going there for our year holliday more than 5 years. The spa, the outside and inner pool are really big and hot. We've tried several 4 and 5 stars hotels in Velingrad and found out Velina as the best one. If you prefere complete relax without loud music and noisy ambience go there. The restaurant doesn't offer big variety of food but everything we've tried was excellent.

Review 48:Nothing really negative. The staff is very kind and helpful but I had the feeling that they don't speak English that well.

Review 49:The hotel is wonderful- great location in the forest, kept very clean, comfortable bathroom with big shower cabin. The restaurant is good to try but we personally prefer to discover different places.

Review 50:Part of the hotel was old Many people do not wash before going into the pool areas, which is disgusting and health hazadous. It SHOULD be mandatory for all.

Review 51:Nice large and clean rooms Outdoor swimmingpool Resturent area incl outside Personal was nice

Review 52:The food is terrible and the hospitality in general is not on the good side

Review 53:I like the romote location and the warn pool outside, the SPA is also very nice and renewed

Review 54:Road to the hotel is awful, but that's probably a problem for the city of Velingrad, not for the hotel "Velina".

Review 55:It was our first stay at this hotel and we were positively surprised. Excellent hotel, located at nearby forest. Room was ok. We enjoyed the outdoor pool with warm mineral water, even during the early morning hours when the weather was cold. The indoor pool is also solid. Good and reliable Wi-Fi. The breakfast is solid. The staff is extremely polite and helpful. We had a very nice and relaxing vacation.

Review 56:This is the best spa hotel in Bulgaria! Perfect location by the pine forest, so peaceful and quiet, with treks starting from the hotel. Amazing swimming pools, one indoors, one outdoors, with mineral water. Spotlessly clean rooms and common areas, fast wifi, nice restaurant with a great wine selection ... really, everything was excellent. The best of all: fantastic personnel, polite, professional, helpful - everyone from the receptionists to the highly qualified massage therapists contributed to our wonderful vacation. This was our second time in Velina and we'll surely come again. Thank you!

Review 57:Topul mineralen basein, goliam i udoben, posred zimen peizaj /Hot mineral swimming pool in the middle of a winter landscape

Review 58:smimming pool

Review 59:The breakfast was not so good

Review 60:The perfect massage and comfortable lobby with fireplace

Review 61:A bit worn out and the mineral water temperature was not high enough

Review 62:Perfect location and very polite staff

Review 63:nothing

Review 64:We like the fact that the room, all the spa facilities, the restaurant and the parking were all close.

Review 65:The road from entry Velingrad up to the hotel

Review 66:Excelent location, quitness, kind staff, amazing masers, very good food, nice and clean pools and spa

Review 67:All is nice

Review 68:A nice place for total relax

Review 69:Very nice swimming pools. Very good restaurant!

Review 70:It is far away from town center.

Review 71:We liked the hotell itself and the facilities. The staff were friendly and proffesional at the same time.

Review 72:Swimming pools

Review 73:Very good place for relaxation. I will recommend it to the other travelers.

Review 74:wifi was not very strong!

Review 75:wonderful hotel and facilities

Review 76:Old furniture in room. Too soft bed.

Review 77:Forest around the hotel

Review 78:Perfect for a quiet getaway. The massages were wonderful - very professional.

Review 79:There was mold in the bathroom

Review 80:Could be boring for a longer stay. Vegeterians would not feel comfortable.

Review 81:Nature, swimming pool, calm

Review 82:Kitchen is good, but restaurant is too expensive.

Review 83:The service and fire place.

Review 84:The sauna works only in the afternoons, after 15:00.

Review 85:Awesome Spa facilities and very friendly service

Review 86:Nothing

Review 87:Location, staff, atmosphere and servicies

Review 88:The sauna not warking till afternoon.

Review 89:Nice hotel, very frendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed our staying in Velina!

Review 90:- the outdoor pool - views of pine forest and mountains from th indoor pool - spa treatments - great value

Review 91:Very nice place. Recommend for relax and silence.

Review 92:This is a great place for a relaxing vacation!!! Simply beautiful! Thank you!!!

Review 93:Pools, location, staff, jacuzzi. Pools. Termal water. Pools.

Review 94:They must have exchange office in the reception. No exchange office in the moment.

Review 95:It was our second stay in the year in a row in this hotel. We stay 4 days and it was really "recharching baterries" stay. It's new playground for the kids. The food in the restaraunt is excellent. Great staff, very very clean.

Review 96:The hotel is definetely not 4 star. It is quite far from center of Velingrad. You have to take taxi to get there. Spa is very simple. Massage table is very uncomfortable. WiFi in the room works badly. Breakfast is very poor.

Review 97:Nature, outdoor mineral pool, food in the restaurant. Massages.

Review 98:Location: Amazing…. Perfect surroundings Room: is wonderful Pools and SPA: Great and diversified Breakfast and Dinner : Very Good. Wonderful staff at reception, restaurant, SPA, etc

Review 99:Check-in was a little cumbersome with hand-copying of passport data etc. Breakfast is OK but seems a let down in comparison to everything else.

Review 100:Well maintained facilities and a great outdoor pool!

Review 101:the location of the hotel, the pools, the spa treatments performed by excellent professionals, the restaurant and its terrace, the sauna beautifully renovated...overall very good value for money.

Review 102:wi-fi was not available in the entire hotel, a little bit expensive

Review 103:The staff was extremely polite and helpful, breakfast was rich and good, the hotel is surrounded by forest, the spa is great, free parking and wi-fi; late check-out is possible if room is not booked for the next night

Review 104:The wifi can be unreliable. We would have liked the breakfast to be served till 10:30 , so one can have a morning swim and a massage before breakfast. The music is terribly repetitive!

Review 105:Perfectly located in the forest. The outside swimming pool is warm in all weather and as the inside pool is fav with families, plenty of space for the swimmers in the open pool! The pine trees smell delicious and as the hotel is not large it is never overcrowded, but consider booking in advance, especially during the official holidays!

Review 106:The room's floor was 1 meter under the ground's level, the room was dark. There are not signs at the central streets to show the direction, so was very difficult to locate the hotel for the first time.

Review 107:the swimming pools

Review 108:We were scolded by an employee, I think a security guard, for giving some leftover bread to the friendly (and very hungry) stray puppy who seems to live in the woods behind the hotel. Reception staff were pretty stingy with smiles--restaurant staff were friendlier!

Review 109:Excellent and spacious spa and pools, and very nice that you can walk out of the hotel and go hiking in the hills. Our ground-floor room was fairly basic but fine and was quiet at night. You can find cheaper and cozier restaurants in town, but the quality and service are pretty good, if you don't feel like venturing out.

Review 110:Hotel restaurant is mediocre - food is poor quality.

Review 111:Comfortable bed, nice mineral water pool, sufficient parking area, bathroom in order, not crowded, quiet.

Review 112:The road leading to the hotel is not in good condition, and also the steps that connect the hotel with Kleptuza lake need repair and maintance.

Review 113:Great SPA center and very cosy rooms.

Review 114:Everything was perfect, except for the suite temperature. We had to ask for a supplementary heater, which was immediately delivered. The staff are real professionals, very kind and helpful. The cuisine is at a high level. We had a very nice and relaxing vacation.

Review 115:Chipped off dishes at breakfast, breakfast variyety and food quality could be better for 4 star hotel, temperature for dry and wet sauna is to low(ABOUT 60 degrees celcius?),to stuffy air in the internal pool, somewhat loud music at the times in the internal pool, room was not vacume cleaned daily

Review 116:Staff,location,spa staff and treatments, cleaniness, quite, view, free wifi, variety of satelite TV stations, mineral pools outdoors and indoors, fridge in the room and small bar, every day clean bathrobes and toiletry, mineral water source at the sight, interiour and extireior decour, balcony, all in all a very good hotel, very nice and relaxing environment in the hotel and definiatly will come againand will strongly recomend to others.Keep up Velina, the best choice in Velingrad

Review 117:The Breakfast was not served well and the presentation requires further attention - labelling the jam, the juices, and replenishing the food until 10 am. Also the breakfast should last till 10.30 as it is a SPA.

Review 118:The seize of the swimming pools, the location and the beds.

Review 119:stability of the internet network. poor quality of some of the breakfast products.

Review 120:Great Hotel with perfect location, excellent spa center with fantastic swimming pools. I like almost everything there.

Review 121:Most travellers had their own transport so a hire car may be a good idea but don't expect to use a sat-nav! However, taxis are very affordable even for the entire day.

Review 122:We liked the fact that it wasn't like going to any other holiday destination. The spa facilities are excellent and the staff very helpful. We are travellers who are looking for something a little different and that's what we found. If travellers are looking for a Starbucks on every corner Velingrad is not the place - and that's all part of its charm. Quiet, relaxing and different.

Review 123:The price is too high and for that money they didin't offer any additional services. The food is with very low quality.

Review 124:I like the SPA zone, location of the Hotel and the SPA masseurs.

Review 125:Where do I start ... Breakfast is blunt and the same every day. Terriblekids playground (people called it anti-kids). Built in the 1960s andnever maintained properly - accidents with kids every day. Tiles aroundthe pool were broken. Inside pool is cold (not 30c as they say). Outsidepool is crowded with sunbeds leaving only a small path to walk aroundit. Overpriced restaurant (1.5eur for a coffee and 2+ eur for a soup).People were taking huge dishes from breakfast to eat through the day. Ifyou lower the prices you'll get a lot more people in the restaurant.Slow internet connection. Overall would not recommend. For that kind ofmoney you'll get a lot better hotel in Velingrad.

Review 126:The location is great. Spacious apartments.

Review 127:The restaurant could be better for a four star hotel. We had to goto other places to have lunch and dinner because of the low qualityfood there.

Review 128:Good for rest and very nice insiade and aoutside pools

Review 129:Road to the hotel is like a walk in the moon - lots of craters. Creepy unfinished building nearby. The staff weren't very nice at moments .

Review 130:Even the basic rooms are luxurious, the spa district has everything - open, closed pool, sauna, steam, ice, cold small pool. The massage is simply the best - the woman has 40 years of experience. Don't miss the massage! Perfect for hiking as the paths start basically from the hotel. Restaurant food is good. Excellent spa experience.

Review 131:Breakfast: not for the level of the hotel; "low cost" coffeeand juices, that is shame.

Review 132:Spa places and the rooms: everything ok, nice! Pools with 30°cwater, perfect!

Review 133:Not a single thing, whatsoever.

Review 134:The hotel is situated at a great location. We stayed in a luxury DBL room which was really nice and spacious. The swimming pool is probably the best in town. The staff is very polite and friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
