Reviews for The BLVD Hotel Costa Mesa/Newport Beach
Review 1:The girl at the front desk upon check in was a little bit rude, maybe because I look very young and she was confused? The girl I checked out with was very very nice though.
Review 2:The room was very clean and nicely remodeled. The pool and hot tub were also nicely done.
Review 3:No complementary breakfast. But they did have coffee.
Review 4:Very clean, the rooms are newly renovated. Very cute! Felt better about having our baby with us didn't feel like years of germs built up! Close to the 55 short drive to the beach.
Review 5:You hear in the room all the noises from the parking. Low water pressure in shower. Long waiting time for hot water in the shower and sink. Room equipped with shower and not a bathtube, what can be a disadvantage for people with small children. On the first day the phone did not work (failure of which management was aware)
Review 6:Clean room and very good cleaning service. Good and easy access to CA55 road (i.e. to go to Disneyland)
Review 7:The second floor rooms have new hard flooring, making the walking on floor VERY LOUD! This really hurts the overall experience. The craftsmanship of the remodel was very sloppy and poor. I'm a builder and would never let that work pass.
Review 8:location, price
Review 9:There was visible lint and dust bunnies on the bed and in the shower. Also, the TV is in a weird location in relation to the bed. A continental breakfast would have been nice.
Review 10:Everything was great. Checking in/out was swift, room was well maintained. Hot tub was great!
Review 11:The walls and ceiling/floor are very thin and not insulated. way too much sound and noise travels between the room. For a business traveler, not good to do work with all of the noise.
Review 12:Great refresh of an older property. It will be great when they get the bar area completed.
Review 13:No water pressure in shower, the new renovations appeared to have been slapped over the old fixtures in the bathroom and outside was dirty on the walkways and around the pool
Review 14:The room was spacious
Review 15:The room was rather small. The curtains didnt keep light out of the room completely. If i can see light coming in, chances are that someone can see in the room. I didnt like that. The walls were rather thin as well. The bed was terrible. Uncomfortable and creeked so loudly. They could,at least offer a muffin or something for breakfast. They had only coffee and tea. Even at a travel lodge, they offer breakfast. I couldnt believe that they didnt have at least a muffin or oatmeal. I wouldnt want to return.
Review 16:I liked the modern look. New, simple and clean.
Review 17:When we were there, a couple next door did get very loud at each other up. It sounded very much like a domestic until he left and came back hours later trying to kick the door in. The telephone line did not work not even to the reception and even though police came they were there the next night again. Guide book to telephone use and other numbers and information apart from reception was promised but never made it to our room. Unless you have a car, there is very little to explore there.
Review 18:The staff was friendly and helpful and the rooms have a funky design.
Review 19:The air conditioning unit needs to be upgraded it doesn't work well and the level of noise is unbearable. Also the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable.
Review 20:The area is just ok. It took me three rooms before I got a decent room. The hotel is not in as good a shape as the website shows. They are doing some renovations
Review 21:Air conditioner didn't work so we had to open the window all night then housekeeping was quite loud outside around 7 am and woke us up. Closing the window helped but then it got hot again. The room wasnt very clean either. There were stains on the walls and in the bathroom there were hairs on the floor and in the toilet.
Review 22:Bed was comfortable and there was quite a selection on 'On Demand'. And no bed bugs.
Review 23:Super loud construction directly outside our room starting at 8am. Our remote did not work and the buttons on the TV did nothing, TV also did not work with HDMI cord. Someone's leftover food was left in our refrigerator. Front desk didn't have any plastic silverware or napkins (our delivery food didn't come with any). It was annoying to have to log in to the wifi every time we needed to use it.
Review 24:Painless check-in, friendly staff, huge comfy bed.
Review 25:Noise from remodel of upstair rooms was excessive. Also price quoted was not correct- paid additional taxes that the booking website failed to include
Review 26:Nice interior on the room
Review 27:noisey unfinished building work in rooms . no breakfast still over last 12months not finished in dining area. unfriendly staff drunks in pool couldnt sit by pool workman drilling banging and operating in yard . dirty floors doors banging all night long and constant loudness. been going here on and off for 15 years , so much better run when comfort inn last 3 visits have got worse and will never be going back there again .....used to like it alot such a shame .
Review 28:nothing
Review 29:Rooms were dark. Housekeeping was always late in the afternoon at our room. Water wouldn't do down, but I didn't complain. No elevator to upper floor.
Review 30:Nice parking. Microwave oven. Staff was nice. Overall a pleasant stay.
Review 31:They are going through rennovations but wasn't bad at all.
Review 32:The room was very comfortable and updated. Bed and pillows were very cozy. Hardwood floor and crown molding. Bathtub was roomy. Nice amenities! Mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, iron, ironing board and toiletries! Also had a nice pool and jacuzzi.
Review 33:They did not update the AC and it did not keep the room as comfortable as we would have liked. Even after trying to make the necessary adjustments to the unit It would be nice to have food available at the hotel.
Review 34:Recently renovated and very cheerful room. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Review 35:Outside balcony floors needs cleaning and repair. Few spots actually had mold growing.
Review 36:Nice decor and comfortable room. Great price for a Saturday night stay.
Review 37:The bed was not very comfortable - especially the pillows. Also I didn't like the lighting in the bedroom. It wasn't very soothing.
Review 38:The staff was friendly and accommodating and the facility was modern and clean.
Review 39:No complaints :)
Review 40:I love ambiance of The BLVD. Its very modern, clean and cool! Location is perfect too, right off the freeway but not too close to the beach to the point where you get all the traffic
Review 41:Had someone screaming in the middle of the night. Called front desk they said they would take care of it but screaming continued for about an hour
Review 42:Very modern. Comfortable king bed. Free coffee
Review 43:Not much!
Review 44:Location isn't great walking distance from much but a quick drive or Uber from everywhere in costa mesa and Newport Beach. Cool modern newly renovated
Review 45:No continental breakfast? It was said to be included? And the wifi card wasn't in the hotel room like she said, although we didn't need to use it that much.
Review 46:Bed was amazing!
Review 47:We were unsure if breakfast was available, because the reviews talked about a good breakfast but we did not see any. The beds were more firm than I prefer, but not uncomfortable.
Review 48:The front desk staff recommended going to Corona Del Mar beach and it was amazing. We loved the citrus flavored water that was available in the lobby. The rooms were clean and modern.
Review 49:Smoking area only has one small bench, hot tub was extreemly tiny. When I asked about a late check out I was rather rudely informed that "We don't do complimentary late check outs. We charge $45.00 and its only until 1:00". $45.00...for two hours? That was half of what the room cost for an entire night! Breakfast was not offered do to remodel, although nothing was mentioned about that at booking. Other than that, we had a great time and would stay again!
Review 50:Very modern rooms with chic decor. Air conditioner worked very well and water in shower was very hot!
Review 51:Outside badly in need of "sproosing" - washing down and painting specifically. Gives a bad impression. Noticed that there had been a bar. Now nothing. Not even something tasty - like an apple , or banana, or something welcoming.
Review 52:Comfortable bed, good shower, good TV - good value .
Review 53:Staff were very friendly and helpful...I needed many photo copies made and the staff member took the time right then to help and there was no charge. :)
Review 54:Smoking area is in back and needs new grout around rocks. Easy job for hotel to fix.
Review 55:Like the location…close to beach and Disney. Also the rooms were nice…decorated cool with nice look, pool area and clean quiet grounds
Review 56:The staff was rude. We were short bath towels every night and when I went to the front desk they just said there were out. I finally (after the 2 night of not having enough towels) made them go into a vacant room and take the towels so that we would have enough.
Review 57:The location was convenient.
Review 58:The Staff was extremly rude. They also take a $50.00 deposit on topof the booking amount. Homeless try your door at night to see if theycan get in.
Review 59:Bed wasn't very comfortable. No breakfast. Pool wasn't heated. Walls are paper thin so I could hear the folks in the next door room at night and in the morning.
Review 60:The color scheme and overall look of the interior spaces was modern and So Cal hip. Liked the cable TV. Free coffee and water in the lobby. Staff was very friendly.
Review 61:The wifi was not good. Kept getting knocked off. Could hear the people upstairs.
Review 62:Welcoming staff. No additional fees for parking. Free Wifi access. Fun decor.
Review 63:I had to mess with the tv to get it to work. The bed was not comfortable, but I made it work.
Review 64:It was quiet, respectful staff, clean and neatly put together.
Review 65:When we stay at any other hotel, they never grill us about the make, color and license number of our car. . . . makes customers feel like "big brother needs to watch us"?. . . and a parking pass? Why? you have plenty of space.
Review 66:The walls are way too thin. The people next door were partying and the office staff had to warn them twice. finally fell asleep around 1 o'clock. No breakfast during renovation.
Review 67:Hotel staff was great. Room was clean.
Review 68:Pool and hot tub weren't ready yet as they are still renovating the hotel.
Review 69:The room was really nice, I absolutely loved the desk chair LOL I am going to buy one for home lol. The bed felt like a cloud, it was so soft and the guest service reps were nice :) close to lots of good resturants too
Review 70:Internet was spotty. Staff was not helpful. The bed was horrible. And worst of all… we found this hotel very sketchy! Checked out and went to another hotel after we saw the front desk staff assaulted by like 10 guys in front of the hotel (he wasn't hurt, but the police we called to apprehend the gang). Can you believe they only have one person working in the middle of the night at the front desk?!?! horrible. he could have been very baldy injured. We did not feel safe.
Review 71:price was just OK… $89 for this and the fairmont resort in Newport was only $110 when we stayed… whoops
Review 72:This is a 70's era motel that has been upgraded. New furnishings, floors, decor etc. quite nice. Good location close to John Wayne airport and freeways.
Review 73:The walls are paper thin and even someone on a simple phone call can be heard very clearly.
Review 74:The staff was fabulous and attentive! Plenty of parking and close to where we needed to be.
Review 75:First off let me just say the staff is extremely friendly! The young woman I spoke to was so polite and very welcoming. Also, when you first see the outside of the building you may feel a bit questioning, but our room was spotless and extremely clean. I love that there is no carpet in the rooms as well. The restroom was clean and the bed was actually really comfortable. The room also matched the description pictures exactly. It was also super easy to get around and find places to eat that the hotel recommended in the directory book. (Sushi Town is a MUST)Overall I really have no complaints. Great location and great staff.
Review 76:so the place was great, but this hotel was a little too strict in my opinion. i get that you have a designated smoking section tucked in the back of the parking lot, but we thought it was a little much to scold us like children for smoking near the driveway entrance while waiting for our uber ride. also, we overheard an employee threatening to charge someone $50 for every room they walk by with a cigarette! what?! that wasn't part of the contract you sign upon arrival, so that employee kind of sucked at talking to guests.
Review 77:the room itself felt clean and the location was great. they're still fixing up the hotel, or at least that's what it seems like, but thankfully there wasn't any loud construction going on. it was mainly down by the lobby.
Review 78:Got locked out after a morning jog, and it took them an hour to get to handy man to get me into my room. The handy man was good, but the front desk guy had no compassion. I had a big presentation to give that morning, so very stressful. Also, the lobby was under construction, so no breakfast. Not a nice neighborhood either. But, for $100, what did I expect...
Review 79:Good price. Only $100/night.
Review 80:They are renovating so the beds were new and not very comfortable.
Review 81:The staff was awesome. Very helpful and very friendly. We had an issue with our shower and it was fixed right away. Price was great.Very close to the Beach. Overall a great place to stay!!!
Review 82:The hotel advertises free breakfast, but it was not available during my stay during to remodeling, which should have been disclosed. Close examination of some of the finish work betrays the age of the property, but it otherwise has an overall ultramodern interior appearance.
Review 83:The BLVD Hotel is a refurbished and rebranded Comfort Inn, about a 5 minute drive to the beach in Costa Mesa. There are a few restaurants in close walking distance. The rooms and beds are quite comfortable with minimalist but very functional furniture. The floors are hard surface with no rugs or carpet. This is definitely not destination lodging, but it is a notch above the budget category. So it is suitable for business travel [good free wi-fi] or vacation travel that focuses on the area, not the lodging. The whirlpool has good jets, and the pool is nicely gated with some very nice lounge facilities around it.
Review 84:Lobby remocel was to be done in Dec. No even close. No furniture. No breakfast as stated in reservation. This is an old motel that has been updated. But very noisey. Could here everything from next door, and I mean everything. TV did not work. They got it working, but not properly. Room very small. Not a comfortable place. They did agree to let us leave without 24 hour notice.
Review 85:Persoonel were nice
Review 86:The ice machine had mold and mildew build up on it. I had to go out and get my own ice. With hotel you pretty much get what you paid for, not to horrible for $65 in the OC.
Review 87:The room was decorated just as the pictures show. It was a great location just a 5 min drive from the triangle in Costa Mesa which was our destination for the night. Staff was very friendly.
Review 88:Saw a cockroach in my room. The walls are so thin I thought it was raining but it was the shower from the room upstairs! I could hear full on conversations from the rooms around us.
Review 89:Ok decorated
Review 90:The noise from the rooms next door travels through the walls too easily. My whole family woke up at 2:30 in the morning because the guests next to us were drunk and shouting and slamming doors. The staff member on duty tried to control things but was unsuccessful. We were told upon checkout to expect a call from management but we are still waiting for that phone call.
Review 91:This was a great place. Its clean and modern. The beds are comfortable and the staff was very nice.
Review 92:Some hallway noise late at night but more related to bad actor guests than the hotel.
Review 93:Clean. They enforce the no-smoking room policy pretty strictly so room didn't smell from smoke.
Review 94:1. Unfaithful: On check-in, the reception required us 100 $ for security deposit in case of room damage beside hotel charge & tax. This prepayment is not noted in the details in reservation regulation. It was un expected charge claim, and a disappointing surprise. 2. Noisy: 1) The room is just by the technical cabin, and the machine worked all through the night, so very noisy. 2) At midnight, some guests spoke loudly outside, so very noisy. 3) Footsteps upstairs room resound strong. 4) The light in bath room & toilette is combined with dry system, so each use of toilette, it’s very noisy even midnight. 5) The noise of refrigerator is enormous through the night. 3. Smelly: The chemical smell in the room is so strong. It’s the smell of toilette & room cleaning. So remarkable.
Review 95:Spacious, practical,
Review 96:Old AC unity. Corridors and steps can use a touch of paint. Reception could get a better decor too, matching the rooms.
Review 97:Clean and renovated room, simple but well equipped. Friendly staff and good location. Good value for the price.
Review 98:This motel has recently been updated and remodelled but there are still signs of it's ageing past such bathroom tiles missing, electrical sockets hanging out of the wall, dowdy lighting. The bedroom windows give right onto the walkway so you cannot open the curtains and have natural light. The pool was dirty and the jacuzzi water was murky so didn't use these facilities.
Review 99:The decor was fun. Free parking and wifi. Very convenient for the freeways. Good choice at the complimentary breakfast.
Review 100:I didn't like it because the entire room' flor was tile, no carpet at all. I fall down twice because of wet floor. Besides there were a construction next to my room. The whole day, they were drilling sth in the wall. And then next day 8.30 am my husband is still sleeping, and there you go again the workers start to drill the wall. I asked the manager if I can to check out 2 hours later, because I had very important meeting in the morning, she said there is gonna be $45 charge. I didn't like how they treat us. I had a bad experience
Review 101:Can't think of anything I didn't like.
Review 102:Everything from the staff to the shower , this is a gem among a lot of one star motels. The breakfast is outstanding. The beds are very comfortable. And the staff treat you like royalty.
Review 103:The only trouble I had was that the walls that had the room-joining doors in them were very easy to hear through and I had very loud neighbors
Review 104:The staff was super friendly and helpful
Review 105:Rooms looked not complete...nice try on updating decor and style, but failed since it was simply slapped up (new paint, granite, and crown moldings).
Review 106:Good deal for location and clean rooms.
Review 107:terrible location situated between an extremely noisy and busy freeway on one side, with tattoo and massage parlor on the other side. Lot of very loud motorcycles going back and forth. We could not stay there. In the room upstairs, the window opened right onto the freeway and we did not feel safe on the 1st floor with some of the local merchants sporting barred windows and doors and the aforementioned tattoo and massage places. The neighborhood was mixed good and bad, but appeared sketchy enough to elicit a safety concern. I would never stay here under normal circumstances and had I known more about the location I would never have booked this place but would have spent more for more suitable lodging. A total waste of $200. Unless I get some sort of rebate or voucher I will pass on using booking.com again. I don't think this should have ever been classified as a 3 star hotel, when in reality it's a 2 star motel a best. Live and learn.
Review 108:the inside of the room was nice but that's about all the good i can say
Review 109:The west side of the motel is where the cars park under (or in front) of your window so that can be a little noisy, though I hardly heard them. I would recommend asking for a room on the EAST side of the building where it is bordered by a residential area. I would have like for them to loan out some beach towels for the guests.
Review 110:The price and service was great. Very clean and modern furnishing. NO CARPET! Plenty of space in our double queen room.
Review 111:No soap in bathroom, bed was uncomfortable, housekeeping knocking too early several times, groundskeeper splashed cars with water everyday, which left hard water spots.....not happy after paying for a car washed. Also rooms were super dark, poor lighting?
Review 112:Wood floors
Review 113:It's a 10/15 min drive to the main hub of Newport ( but most hotels are on this area)
Review 114:The room set up was unique and modern . Comfy beds and great friendly staff .
Review 115:Everything:WiFi did not work, front desk was unhelpful when I mentioned this to them - they said it was working there in the lobby so there was nothing to do about it.Water was disgusting - even to brush your teeth with, the taste was so strong and so bad that it was just awful. The sink also backed up - wish I could upload the photo I have of the brown water filling the sink after the water was on only a few seconds.Floor was filthy - they must have thought replacing the old motel carpets with "hardwood" aka cheap linoleum would make the place feel nicer, however they are covered in dirt and filth, if you walk around for just a few minutes the bottoms of your feet will be covered in dirt. They could have spent their money doing actual renovations instead of wasting it on 1) lamps that don't work, 2) phone that doesn't work [they told me this was just happening today, but if you read negative reviews in the past, their phones never work...], 3) decorations such as a wall poster of a huge surfer next to a BLVD hotel logo with facebook, twitter, youtube, and instagram icons on it... yes, this is the big wall next to the bed, covered in social media icons, 4) strange orange lighting everywhere outside. We need actual lighting so we can see what is so dirty beneath our feet, we need better mattresses so it can at least pass as any different than a Motel 6, a sink that drains properly, and breakfast that is actually edible.Breakfast was absolutely inedible - yogurt was past expiration, hard-boiled eggs seemed to have been cooked improperly and had gone "bad", I stood in a line for 15 minutes to make myself a waffle at the waffle machine, I stepped away for a moment then when I returned, the staff had dismantled the waffle machine because "it's 10am and breakfast is closed" even though people were still standing around trying to get food. They also only have vegetable oil, no butter...
Review 116:Nothing
Review 117:This hotel looks like it used to be a run down hotel like a very old motel or something? But BLVD remodeled the hotel and it looks decent. Well good enough to stay in for a couple of nights. I'm not sure if they will improve on there facility, but it does have a lot of potential to be a 4 star and a very good hotel. But they have work to do.
Review 118:Free breakfast I think the hotel was priced right, but I'm still one of those people who would rather pay next to nothing a night for a hotel room!
Review 119:The place was under construction. Had to move rooms cuz my room still needed paint and the tile transition was missing frm carpet. In all the remodel was not complete.... Very bad experience. Way over priced for wht we got. The pool had no lighting around the pool or inside pool. Gate did not work. I could go on and on .....
Review 120:Location off the freeway
Review 121:*Wall to wall noise, you could hear conversation in the other room *extra $100 deposit *hook from curtain fell off easily
Review 122:*cleanliness *non smoking room but there's a designated spot for smokers *no weird smell the first time you come in *updated room *free parking *continental breakfast *8 to 10mins to the beach *near OC Fair, in which you could buy lots of stuff for a cheaper prize to give to your family & friends back home or for yourself too.
Review 123:Some of the breakfast options, especially the eggs, were disgusting. The eggs were definitely pre-made and warmed up. The waffle maker and yogurt was good, though. The wifi was also so slow it was largely unusable.
Review 124:Staff was very friendly, decor was modern and well done, and rooms even had refrigerators, which was a pleasant surprise. Breakfast and parking included was also nice.
Review 125:Need a better ramp for the luggage cart!
Review 126:Efficient staff. Peaceful,modern design rooms.Comfy bed.Easy parking & room access
Review 127:Some trash collection noise at 7:30 am !!!
Review 128:Fresh, good taste remodel.
Review 129:No breakfast that I found
Review 130:I enjoyed the hot tub
Review 131:You could hear everything going on in adjacent rooms.. Not quiet.
Review 132:Staff gave us a room that wasn't clean yet, had to go back down to get a new room
Review 133:Quite area. OC fair ground were down the street
Review 134:The bathroom shower water etc...old
Review 135:The front desk girls
Review 136:Every places near the hotel closes early (8-9 pm)
Review 137:Very quiet and nice place
Review 138:Parking
Review 139:Great place
Review 140:The walkways looked worn down and ghetto bad first impression ...
Review 141:Room decore nice and clean staff polite!
