Reviews for Murray Guesthouse

Review 1:nothing

Review 2:extremly helpful staff, always one step ahead of the clients need. nice breakfast menu and a cool rooftop. Each customer gets a picture sent of them leaving on the bicycle cart, a lot of fun.

Review 3:Nothing

Review 4:What a great place to stay in Chau Doc! On a nice quiet street close to the river. Staff really friendly, nice breakfasts and owners have plenty of local info and recommendations for activities.

Review 5:I only wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 6:The Murray Guest house is a wonderful and welcoming place. The owners and staff actually spend time to make you feel like part of the family. The rooms are clean and well organised, the roof top a nice break from the busy streets and the pool table a bonus. They are really knowledgeable about the local history and places to visit and happily provide bicycles and tours of the area. They even go as far as to email you a photo from your stay.

Review 7:Breakfast could include a cold drink, there was only tea and coffee, no juice or water

Review 8:Very clean, helpful staff, nice public space to hang out, bicycle for free

Review 9:Nothing at all.

Review 10:Murray Guesthouse was a real gem - so much better than we had expected. A modern family run hotel. Lovely owners who were so friendly & happy to help in any way they could. Our triple room was furnished well, with everything we needed. Bathroom was also great. All extremely clean. Hotel had a good stocked bar at very reasonable prices. Breakfast was delicious - served with homemade sausages made by the owner!! Overall, fantastic small family run hotel - would highly recommend if staying in Chau Doc.

Review 11:Little bit out of town, but a couple of restaurants within walking distance

Review 12:Very friendly, home from home type accommodation. Staff were really helpful.

Review 13:Nothing much

Review 14:Staff very friendly, knowledgeble of the area. Map for tourist to show where to go. Very near to many many tourist attraction. Can rent motor bike and buy boat tickets to cambodia. Free wifi. Pool table and bar.

Review 15:None. A perfect stay

Review 16:I stayed at this wonderful guest house for four days. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The bathroom has modern fixtures. The bed was super comfortable. A very good western breakfast. The owners and their staff make one feel like family. Excellent value for the money

Review 17:The owner are so honesty. We enjoyed our 2nd stay there. All what you need...close to the vietnamese life. They support was great to get a privat car Transfer to Cai Lay, du to we had an appointment there on the next day at 10:00 am. Highly recommended! the beds are not to hard...breakfast delicious!

Review 18:They have thought of EVERYTHING to make your stay perfect. The hotel is spotless, beautifully decorated, spacious, modern. The highest level of customer service you will find anywhere, bar none. They will arrange your travel from Chau Doc at no fee or commission. As I said, they make your stay simple and carefree. I would travel to Chau Doc just ro experience their amazing customer care!

Review 19:The Murray Guesthouse is an oasis after a hot and dusty drive to Chau Doc from Phnom Penh. Spotlessly clean, wonderful staff and if you have time a pool table and darts board!

Review 20:We were greeted with a very warm welcome and it felt like we weren't just travelers but guests in their home. Wonderful breakfast - with Vietnamese options- and even better conversation with the Kiwi owner. Our only regret is that our stay was so short. We would recommend staying longer in Chau Doc. Wayne will be able to suggest 100 things to do and this town is far more inviting and interesting than Saigon. Thanks for having us!!!

Review 21:It was sad that we had just one night in this lovely guesthouse. Mr. Murray and his team were very friendly and supportive. The staff speaks very good english.

Review 22:Room did not have window to the outside just a small window with frostedglass into an internal light shaft. The free ride from the bust stationas promised in the confirmation email turns out to be not free.

Review 23:Breakfast was good, especially the lemongrass sausages. Onward Ferrybooking service to Cambodia was well priced and managed.

Review 24:Nothing.

Review 25:It is nice small guesthouse located about 10-15 min walking distance from the market and the centre. The staff and the owner and his wife are really friendly and helpful. My room was very spacious and clean. The guesthouse has a nice rooftop terrace. Moreover, they have a nice balcony where you can have drinks in the evening and breakfast in the morning. It was a bit sad that I could only stay one at Murrays.

Review 26:The wi-fi did not work, despite us alerting the staff. Breakfast was basic. Quite expensive for Vietnam. Staff provided inaccurate information when asked for advice.

Review 27:Rooms were comfortable and clean. Shower was great. We enjoyed the pool table and self service bar.

Review 28:Clean room and ensuite shower room. Efficient aircon. Great location just off the main road. Our room didn't have a window so it was very quiet. There was a help yourself bar with an honesty box - we didn't use it but it was a nice touch. Breakfast on the balcony with local sausage and eggs done any of three ways.

Review 29:The room was faultless, large, clean , comfortable and excellent value for money. We enjoyed a very good breakfast on the balcony . The staff were helpful and made us very welcome .

Review 30:The road in front of the guesthouse is under construction so taxi and cars can't get in. However, it's just a minute walk from the main road.

Review 31:Family-owned guesthouse offering very clean and comfortable rooms (though ours is without a window). The owner and staff are very helpful and friendly. You can use their bicyles for free to hang around town. If you like a billiard or darting game, make yourself at home there. They do not provide tour services but can introduce good guides. Simple breakfast will be provided for free. We recommend Bay Bong restaurant (ask the hotel staff, they will show you how to get there). Sour fish soup (actually a bit sweet because of pineapple) is the soul food of the Mekong delta, must try. Two must-do activities there: a boat trip to fish farm, floating market and Cham village and a visit to Tra Su forest.

Review 32:I could not find anything I did not like in the little oases.

Review 33:Would love to just stay a week and read a book in this House, sit on the balcony and Relax, the town itself does not have a lot to see, but for us it was the perfect launch pad for Cambodia via Speed boat.

Review 34:This was great for a stopover, and if I'd had an extra day I would've grabbed the bike and gone exploring over the river. It's very homely, with comfortable bed and new, modern bathroom. Pool table and roof top balconies to enjoy drinks, and nice simple breakfast included. Organised my bus to Saigon and I believe can arrange boat to PP. If you can slow down between PP and Saigon or Can Tho, do it here.

Review 35:Room in the ground floor with window grate and view to the neighbours house wall....

Review 36:Breakfast on the balcony! The noodle-soup - a MUST HAVE :-) The whole atmosphere - very nice and helpful people and the whole accommodation facilities to feel good

Review 37:Everything was perfect! The staff is really friendly and helpful. Comfort, quality, good place, quiet, bar with billard, free bicycle and good breakfast. Murray Guesthouse is Defenetly the place to go! Thank You

Review 38:We stayed for 2 nights and our room was not cleaned. When asking about it, we got an apology and a promise to clean it later. Later on we were told that guests need to put a sign on the door to tell them we wanted the room cleaned!!! There was no sign in our door or room to put outside, it was just an excuse for the miss. I have never been anywhere where the guest must inform the hotel that they would like the room to be cleaned. We wouldn't be upset if they admitted the mistake and offered to replace the towels.

Review 39:Salex, always ready to help. He really goes out of his way to make our stay pleasant. The location was good also.

Review 40:Very warm outside the rooms, ie the receptiion area and bar, The cheaper rooms have no window so go for better room if you can.

Review 41:Lovely, helpful staff, air con and wi fi in room, very clean, great coffee at breakfast annd you can re fill

Review 42:Nice bright clean room with great A/C, Comfortable bed, sheets and pillows, Nice friendly male staff at front desk (the woman looked cross and scary) Very homely with photos of the owners on the walls and artefacts collected on their travels, lovely roof top garden with beautiful plants and an outdoor place to sit, bicycles to use, adequate breakfast

Review 43:Nutshell:The reception staff and those serving breakfast were very friendly and one man at the front desk was very nice and helpful. However the manager was not nice. She had moments of being nice but our overall impression is that she is rude, and dishonest. We had a hotel person call Murray guesthouse to change our arrival day and that was fine. When we arrived it was not and they charged us the extra night. Our story:I originally contacted the hotel in February to stay 2 nights in early March and I specifically asked the hotel if I could book via email. I got an email from a Mr Long saying yes, but the rate was more, so I made the booking through booking.com. I told Mr Long that this was the case but that I would cancel through booking.com and go through him, no answer. I then get another email from a completely different person confirming my stay. We found out later that Mr Long runs the website and probably is not nice to his clients. The real trouble came when 2 days before we were due to arrive we decided to change things and stay in another city for 1 night. We asked the hotel we were currently at if they would contact Murray guesthouse for us to change the booking, they did and all was agreed, we would still come for 2 nights, but arrive on Sunday, not Saturday. I emailed Murray guesthouse, but unknowingly I emailed Mr Long and he said I could not change the booking. So I got in touch with the hotel that made the change. They reconfirmed that the change has been made and all was fine. When we arrived at Murray guesthouse they, for whatever the reason held our room for Saturday night and expected us to pay for the night and they could not confirm at the time whether they had room Monday night for us. They would charge us for the missed night as they said they are a small hotel with only 10 rooms. They said they could not give away our room just in case we came... But we had told them we would go to another city first.

Review 44:Beautiful room and bathroom

Review 45:Location a bit of a schlep to town (15 or so minutes walking), but it wasn´t a deal breaker

Review 46:Lovely staff, great facilities, very helpful when booking onward travel

Review 47:Location was a little way from the town centre

Review 48:Friendly, helpful staff (helped organise my onwards travel), very clean and comfortable room with plenty of space, nice breakfast even early in the morning, staff made sure xe loi arrived to take me to the speedboat in time

Review 49:Owner contacted us in advance and arranged everything we needed. Staff were super, and there is an "honesty" bar, which is anachronistic but charming. Would highly recommend it.

Review 50:The room and the guesthouse itself and the staff. The house and room a luxury and the staff very helpful and nice. The location could be better - but that doesn´t matter everything. The place Chau Doc is not very exciting place in general. Very beautiful there though. Needs more tourism so it will be nicer to stay there.

Review 51:Nothing to dislike

Review 52:Reception booked me on the fast HC ferry as soon as I had planned my trip. Organized pick up at 7 am by strange cycle. The previous evening reception was on look out for me( must have known somehow that having come on bus from Can Tho I would be on shuttle bus arriving just after 7 pm). Reception saw me in the dark get off bus and came to help me cross busy main road.

Review 53:Yo help yourself to drinks in the bar, not being a barman and I poured what I thought was a gin and tonic, when I checked out I was charged a double for the first night and a triple for the second night, this considerably upped the bill. It would be much easier for them to poor you a drink.

Review 54:Lovely staff, really helpful and friendly, the hotel itself is clean and well situated, I would recommend this hotel.

Review 55:Nothing to dislike.

Review 56:Everything. The hotel and it's rooms are like an oasis in the bustling city of Chau doc. The owner, Wayne makes it his priority to make everyone feel at home during their stay. He gave us a lot of useful information on the surroundings and on how to get to Cambodia.

Review 57:The friendliness, the hospitality, the helpfulness, the pool table, the help yourself to alcohol (even though we didn't access, incentive to return while playing pool next time!) the awesome fantastic freshly made to order and scrumptious breakfast with conversation. The attention to make you feel important, valued and appreciated was appreciated and amazing. You felt a part of their world as stories and experiences were shared. The pool table was a wonderful relaxing way to end the night. Thank you for a wonderful night, we look forward and hope to return soon

Review 58:The pool table looked great but unfortunately we didn't have time to play

Review 59:The place was very tidy and had a very homely feel about it, it was easy to let your guard down here and relax. Everything was well laid out and thought of from the guests perspective. We found them very informative and welcoming.

Review 60:Nothing. I don't say that frequently ...

Review 61:Probably the best accomodation i ever had, in this price range, in Vietnam. They call it "homestay", which is both true, but also an understatement - true because the family really lives there, understatement because the overall comfort is much more resembling that of a hotel proper. Everything is very tastefully decorated with objects from the owner's many journeys. Everything's got that caring ttouch, right up to the roofgarden. And the family is very helpful indeed.

Review 62:Very involved and friendly owner Very friendly, well informed and professional staff Very individual, tasteful decor Lovely roof terraces Only wish we had more time to stay there

Review 63:The safe was out of order. There were only 3 coat-hangers in the wardrobe.

Review 64:The breakfast quality, free bicycle, the view from the roof terrace, the helpful staff.

Review 65:Nothing!

Review 66:Everything! the staff was honestly, friendly and understood and spoke English! You could join the rooftop and the selfservice from the Bar. We used the offer for free buycicle to explore Chau Doc and join an excellent authentisch local BBQ in the Quang Trung street despite the menu was only in vietnamese. We join the breakfast Pho Ga and American BF on the balcony.

Review 67:Everything was really professional. The hotel arranged the boats for us for Vietnam with free pick up till docks. The wall with pictures of all the guests is a brilliant idea and gives a nice personal touch. Complimentary breakfast was also great.

Review 68:Nothing to write here

Review 69:Exceptionally welcoming staff most helpful Very clean room...large and well appointed Breakfast on the balcony Close to many street food locations Honour system for beverages Pool table, darts

Review 70:The cheapest rooms don't have external windows. Nonetheless, the rooms are very well insulated so no sounds can be heard. The room's fan was a little bit loud.

Review 71:The staff is superb, extremely sweet and they go out of their way to be helpful both for local suggestions and travel support. Breakfast is good. The room was very clean and quiet.

Review 72:The only drawback we encountered was having a room on the third floor with no elevator.

Review 73:We only stayed at the Murray one night on our way to Cambodia on the speed boat, but our brief stay was very enjoyable. The staff was very helpful booking our boat trip and giving advice on bus transportation from Can Tho to Chau Doc by email prior to our arrival. We appreciated the friendliness of the staff and their helpful suggestions. Excellent value, I would stay at the Murray again.

Review 74:Not directly in the city center, but closer to the bus station. Bicycles available at the Guesthouse and motos waiting on the street.

Review 75:great staff! they have been tollay friendly and helpful with our tour planing. The roof top is beautiful. Everything is clean and in a good shape.

Review 76:Everything. Spacious, modern and beautifully designed rooms. Very efficient and helpful staff. Nice roof terrace where you can cool down after a busy day. And you can even play billiards!

Review 77:On arrival we were greeted with huge smiles by the owner Can and her team. They were really friendly and very helpful in sorting out a day trip and suggesting places to eat. The room was really spacious, airy and comfortable and the rain shower was excellent. The honesty bar is great idea with pool and darts available. The balcony is a great place to people watch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Can and her team even waived us off when we left which was a lovely touch.

Review 78:Perfect place to stay if you travel to Cambodia, or when you travelfrom Cambodia to Vietnam. They arranged our boat tickets in advance andthey even got up early to make breakfast at the day we took the boat. The boat company picks you up at the hotel and brings you to theharbor. Room was spacious, nice bathroom, just what you need! You cantake the free bikes to ride to the centre of the city, just great. Werecommend to stay more then one night, because the surrounding isreally nice. For lunch, try Memory Delicatessen at Nguyen Huu Canh 57,we really enjoyed it!

Review 79:- first room we were offered had only a window into the common room with a pool table. No one was playing (it was not high season) so it was quiet, and it was no problem to change to a different room

Review 80:- beautiful roof terrace - great and helpful staff (most speak English, some others also French) - pick up from the - good location

Review 81:- nothing

Review 82:- staff was lovely and made our stay - free pool table and bikes - we were picked up from the boat (200 meters) - on the day we left we recieved an email with a few photo's of our departure (how lovely is that?)

Review 83:Hot water wasn't too warm.

Review 84:A very pleasant place to stay, with guest comfort well considered. Great rooftop garden which unfortunately I didn't use due to rain. Pool table and guest area. Great family hosts.

Review 85:The hotel is owned and run by Wayne and Thanh can Murray and has been opened just over a year. On my 4 trips to Vietnam this has been one of the best hotel I've yet stayed in and I would thoroughly recommend it. All the staff are friendly and helpful with a good level of English spoken. The hotel is built very much with the western guest in mind. It's location is down a quiet side street just off Le Loi street and the river. A lovely breakfast every morning sat on the balcony watching the world go by.

Review 86:Friendly personnel, tips and advice about trips and transport. Nice roof terrace where you can relax with a drink that you can take from the fridge in the communal area with pooltable and darts. You just write down what you take, a rare confidence these days. Breakfast is served on a terrace overlooking the street. It's like watching a real life movie. I could have just sat there for hours. Great stay.

Review 87:What an amazing find, the staff here are amazing and we got personally greeted by Mr Murray himself who was full of advise and stories to bestow upon us. This was by far the most luxury hotel we stayed in the whole of Vietnam for the price we payed. They have an amazing rooftop garden and a bar with a pool table. Not to mention the rain head shower!! We only stayed here one night but I cannot recommend enough!

Review 88:A bit out of the center, that's where the bikes come in handy

Review 89:Comfortable beds and shower Good breakfast Free bike usage Friendly staff happy to assist Nice balcony and roof terrace

Review 90:The owner is very rude an unconfortable. We ask her to not wake up us early as we couldake it by ourselves and she called us at 5:00 am. She doesn't speak english and she has a very bad attitude with guests and her own staff. The room was pretty dirty and the AC was very noisy. We couldn't sleep all night.

Review 91:I don't know. Maybe the breakfast was not so bad but I would absolutely not revommend this place to other people. We spent 22 days in Vietnam and Cambogia and this has been the worse hotel we booked.

Review 92:We didn't want to leave.

Review 93:This is an excellent hotel. The staff are very friendly, helpful and can't do enough for you. Do the tours with Jackie Lang you won't regret it. The breakfast is excellent especially on the balcony. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The WiFi was excellent and free. The hotel is close to everything, just a short walk away. We would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Review 94:The fact we only stayed one night.

Review 95:The staff was extremely welcoming (spoke perfect french, and very good english!) and helpful. The room was lovely and comfortable; including the spotless bathroom. Breakfast was very good, and there is a wonderful terrace on the top floor.

Review 96:Terrible recommendation by receptionist for dinner, who sent us to the restaurant Mekong. Inedible...

Review 97:Very friendly and helpful. Super clean and great facilities: bikes, pool table etc

Review 98:Everything! Spotlessly clean, nice decor, lots of plants, good breakfast, honour system for drinks, very helpful & pleasant staff with good English & nothing was too much trouble. Everything worked in the room (which is unusual). 5 star accommodation for 2 star price. Highly recommended.

Review 99:One of the best places we stayed at in Vietnam during our vacation. Fantastic staff, very good service, lovely and personal guesthouse.

Review 100:Super cool staff

Review 101:A beautiful exceptional guesthouse where you are treated as part of the family. You cannot do better. This is the place to stay.

Review 102:Amazing service - one of our favorites in Vietnam!

Review 103:Terrace on the canal Excursion to floating markets: 20$ each person, starting at 4 am, but it is worth Dinner included was very good

Review 104:No bath tub in bathroom

Review 105:It was clean , staff were very helpful. Owner was nice. Excellent

Review 110:Awesome friendly people, went out of their way to help us

Review 111:The guesthouse is really warm and designed with an amazing style. The room is really clean and comfortable. The staff is kind and helpful.

Review 112:N/A

Review 113:Impeccably clean, comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff.

Review 114:room without windows

Review 115:host

Review 116:The excellent service. We were travelling from Vietnam to Cambodia and everything was arranged very efficiently. The room was spacious and very clean
