Reviews for Hotel Ella

Review 1:With my State Bar Card, and an on line view of tow business bank accounts with funds on deposit of $41,000.00 and $2,300.00 I was treated like a crook by the red haired young man at the front desk who said the HOTEL never takes checks when I asked could i cash a law firm business check for $100.00. Well folks the Driscol have never told me no.

Review 2:No coffeemaker in the room. Big problem for early risers like me. No waste basket in the bathroom or bedroom was a little strange.

Review 3:Nice boutique hotel. Good size room and bathroom. Friendly staff. Decent restaurant attached.

Review 4:I specifically requested a quiet room when I booked. Instead we had a wedding reception/band going from the time we checked in until midnight. I called the front desk around 11:15 pm because it was so loud and then mentioned it again at checkout in the morning. Got a canned "sorry" from both people I spoke with. You'd think when I made the request, they would have mentioned that there were no quiet rooms because of the wedding so I could have made different arrangements.

Review 5:The room was nice and clean.

Review 6:We had a very noisy air conditioning unit in our first room. We had to move rooms as we had water flooding through our bathroom ceiling fan. our second room was lovely much quieter airconditoning and bathroom. Only compensation for bad room was a free drink. Expensive for what we got

Review 7:Good location, friendly staff

Review 8:Our room was infested with ants, no coffe maker, breakfast was just okay, a little too pricy for what you get

Review 9:Hotel architecture and history were beautiful

Review 10:It ends up being way more expensive than you booked. Two different taxes, overnight parking, etc, etc

Review 11:The location is perfect for getting to campus, our daughters dorm, Capitol, shopping and restaurants.

Review 12:The breakfast was a little pricey, and I didn't think it was necessary tocharge$25 a night for parking.

Review 13:It was a clean, comfortable stay with the intimacy of a bed and breakfast

Review 14:I am 5' 6" and couldn't see myself in the mirror over the sink, it was hung way too high. The shower head was darn cheap considering the rest of the room and fixtures.

Review 15:Great service, lovely property, will stay here on my next visit to Austin!

Review 16:We loved our stay at Hotel Ella. The staff was extremely friendly and easy going. We took advantage of the complimentary car service. It was great to not worry about driving. We'll stay here again on our next trip to Austin!

Review 17:Excellent stay at the Ella - if you want something 'different' then this hotel is for you! Great staff, great rooms and the atmosphere is to die for! The courtesy car is such a great touch and the valet boys were great!

Review 18:Their options listed were not up to date. They said they offered a 'cold menu' late night (past 10 pm), but we tried to get something late night and were told that they no longer had the kitchen staffed overnight. Would have been nice to know that before coming back to the hotel a little hungry. In room snacks were a good option but sometimes you just want something a little more substantial

Review 19:Friendly staff, great happy hour, amazing cocktails. Luxury BMW car service that took you to anywhere within a 3 mile radius (which there is a lot!)

Review 20:The air conditioning was more of a window unit type and was a bit noisy and blasted cold air onto the bed. We would have preferred to have a closet, but we appreciate that this is a period property.

Review 21:The reception staff were exceptional. The toiletries were provided were really nice and on trend for this boutique hotel. We appreciated the use of the courtesy car within a short radius, which was enough to get us into the centre of town a couple of times.

Review 22:A little pricey, but if you have the money it's a great place to stay!

Review 23:Large room. Wonderful balcony on both 1st and 2nd floor. Staff very friendly and attentive.

Review 24:NO ICE MACHINE -- Ridiculous to have to call for room service for ice and then need to tip them. My room/bath unbelievably small. Didn't care for breakfast menu - need more basic selections, i.e. plain eggs and assortments of Danish.

Review 25:Location. Staff nice

Review 26:Wish there was another ranking higher than "Excellent" to measure Hotel Ella. Beautiful facility, perfect location to see Austin city sights, attentive and professional staff. Beds were super comfy. Quiet and restful despite being in the middle of the action. Two really special aspects. First, the massive front porch was fun to sit on and watch the city sights. Second, the hotel's valet staff has car service that will take you to some of the best Austin sites near the hotel. In a Cadillac! Fabulous way to enjoy a great area of the city hassle-free.

Review 27:The staff was fabulous! Especially the valet & drivers. The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service within a 3 mile radius of the hotel. It was so handy since we had to be a the capital both days we were there.

Review 28:Bartenders a little grumpy and service a bit slow, in spite of few patrons to be seen.

Review 29:Staff was exceptionally courteous and friendly and asked how are adventures were whenever we returned the car to the valet desk. Though the hotel was fully booked, they seemed to remember where we had gone each and every time so that they could ask appropriate questions.

Review 30:Wifi was erratic, even at 4:00 in the morning (when I'd assume traffic was low). No view from my room at all (blocked by fence). That's it though, every other thing was first rate.

Review 31:Terrific staff, spacious rooms, perfect location. Wonderful old mansion. Will certainly revisit. Also liked the restaurant...we got in very late and they took care of us in great style.

Review 32:Decoration a bit old-fashioned, particularly in the rooms where ambiance is a little sad, don't plainly deserve "boutique hotel" label, far from downtown Austin

Review 33:Location (by the OofT and the museums), easy to reach from the airport, nice historical building, quietness

Review 34:Breakfast was shocking, Greasy and very poor choice. Room was tiny and overall Way too expensive a place.$100 a night about right. Had to walk outside in rain to get to room

Review 35:Clean room. Staff friendly

Review 36:They couldn't turn down the broadcast system... so I couldn't read.... or write... without sitting out in the heat. I think such a small hotel really ought to be able to control that, ESPECIALLY when there is not another soul around. And, they can't do much about the fact that the town is being overrun by the tech industry and out of control development.

Review 37:Absolutely charming help, especially all the free rides.. as I didn't realize how outside it was from downtown etc. and how the bus can be a little long. THe rooms are incredibly good value, terrific taste. So nice to come home to, like a European Palazzo.

Review 38:Housekeeping staff preparing other rooms in the morning were very noisy. Constant slamming of doors, which when you are rewarding yourself with a nice lay in, in their comfy beds was rather irritating.

Review 39:Lovely looking sophisticated hotel. The room I was in was large with a huge comfy bed. Staff were delightful, friendly and helpful. The hotel have two personal cars that take you into town and will pick you up. The hotel is a little outside the main downtown area, took me ten minutes walk to get to the Capitol building and another few minutes to get into the downtown area. I was luck enough to meet the owners of the hotel, who where very helpful and friendly. I'd certainly stay here again :-)

Review 40:Charming Nice Pool

Review 41:Off a busy street.

Review 44:Staff was incredibly helpful, down to earth and warm. The hotel is piece if art - it beautiful.

Review 45:It would be nice to have a trash can located outside where the dogs do their business...

Review 46:Location, staff, room, pretty much everything!

Review 47:The atmosphere is great

Review 48:Hotel Ella was amazing. Wonderful place for a wedding reception ! Everything was perfect!

Review 49:Love that they will drive you everywhere! (I think it's 10 mile radius?) that was very convenient!

Review 50:Staff provided excellent service.

Review 51:The room was a little stark, and loose children ran the hallways.

Review 52:We enjoyed the bar and restaurant.

Review 53:Very helpful staff and great accommodations

Review 54:Free wifi was very poor. The hotel room doors did not seal so light and sound came into the room

Review 55:Room was very nice, bed very comfortable.

Review 56:Dirty, trash littered view of apartments from our hotel room. Extremely overpriced room.

Review 57:Quietness. Bed.

Review 58:Internet was slow

Review 59:Very helpful staff

Review 60:Terrible view of wall of building next door. Tiny room/300.00

Review 61:Room expensive for what we got (small, no view) and some of our belongings 'went missing' from the room....

Review 62:Nice people and facilities

Review 63:For the price of the 550 plus, I complained but the manager took 100 ofeach night. Breakfast was excellent Staff was very accomodating

Review 64:Surrounding location was a ghetto

Review 65:Staff and room

Review 66:Price

Review 67:Location & view of pool area

Review 68:Loved everything - comfortable bed and pillows! Great Bar and staff! I also loved the coffee bar in the Hall way.

Review 69:No chair in the room for desk Bit pricey for the overall stay

Review 70:Comfort Staff Amenities

Review 71:The loft room we stayed in had the aircon motors outside the window which were a bit noisy buy not terrible.

Review 72:The hotel is really well located with comfortable rooms and great staff. The pub downstairs is nice and the steak in the restaurant is fantastic.

Review 73:tiny gym, construction nearby, no iron in room, no ice on floor

Review 74:pretty building, nice staff, good location

Review 75:Noisy.
