Reviews for Mountain Retreat

Review 1:The young man who checked us in was miserable and extremely unfriendly. He did not smile once. We have never had an unfriendly person at this hotel until this trip, and I was very disappointed. I checked in, went up to the room, and within 5 minutes I was called to say that the card did not go through. That happens, no problem. But later on that evening, when my kids were in the room visiting, he came up to see if the room was still occupied! What was that all about? I had not checked out, had paid for the night, so of course it was still occupied. It was almost like he was checking up on us and it was very disturbing and offensive.

Review 2:We always stay here as it is always clean, and we enjoy partaking of the pool and hot tub. The location is excellent as well, and the beds are very comfy. The checking-out ladies were very friendly and a lot of fun. An awesome stay as usual!!

Review 3:Card key never worked, after we used it once it would deactivate. We had to get the key reprogramed several times during our stay.

Review 4:Friendly staff and good location. Rooms were clean and comfortable.

Review 5:Poor room service (room not properly cleaned or sheets and towels adequately changed or garbage picked up nor toilet paper or soap adequately provided); lack of continuous internet; lack of hot water on occasion; elevators not working and had to walk barefoot in snow to get to a staircase;

Review 6:The location

Review 7:Elevators waiting times and most of time broken down. Timberwolf restaurant closed 3 of 5 days stay in the top holiday week of year betwwen x mas and NY. Incredible.

Review 8:Free garage parking. Proximity to Whistler and to Vancouver. Quiet in the mountains

Review 9:Cleaning staff left my room door unlocked, restaurant wouldn't open on time.

Review 10:1/2 hour drive from whistler, nice pool and hot tub. Very inexpensive hotel at peak season.

Review 11:No customer service and was a party hotel with no rules. Kids running up and down the hallways until 1 am. Loud music and tons of spilled alcohol around the pool. No pool towels. Poor house keeping.

Review 12:Location.

Review 13:- 1 of 2 elevators was broken during stay. Had to walk outside in slippery icy conditions to access stairwell. - wifi didn't work

Review 14:- affordable - had a gym and hot tub, and indoor water slide. - close to Wendy's & Tim Hortons

Review 15:Raj was unpleasant to deal with, it seemed like she was in a rush to do everything and anything. Very poor customer service skills. The room we stayed in had a very strong odour.

Review 16:Location

Review 17:The elevator was out of service. No assistance was offered for load-in. No apology for the inconvenience was voiced at check-in. The room had a very sour odor emanating from the washroom. Very off-putting in general.

Review 18:We didn't enjoy the pillows. We thought they were too soft and this made it difficult for me to fall asleep. Also, when the heater turned on in our room it would make these annoying ticking sounds that was another reason why I couldn't get to sleep. I called the concierge a few times to ask some questions but one one ever answered the phone. The restaurant downstairs wasn't open passed 3 on the day we got there but luckily we were there early enough that we ordered lunch to go.

Review 19:I found this place on booking.com and it was a really great price for a one night staycation in Squamish. The hotel is in a nice location because you can drive to downtown Squamish or the town within 5 mins. The lady at the front desk was pleasant and greeted use right away. Even though we were an hour early she was able to get us in our room right then and there, which was super awesome. There was a pool and hot tub, which we didn't get to use but would definitely take the opportunity if we had more time. We enjoyed the view of the mountain side from our window and the size of the room was just right. The bed was super comfy and the room was just the right temperature. The restaurant was not busy so we were able to order our lunch to go and eat in our room. My boyfriend and I wanted a small getting away from the city and staying at the Mountain Retreat was just what we wanted; a quiet, pleasant, quaint slow time away from reality.

Review 20:Pool was so over run with hockey team kids not being supervised but again staff tried their best to keep control of the situation.

Review 21:Front desk staff was excellent. Housekeeping great and maintenance all were good even just for conversation in passing them.

Review 22:I wish this had a kitchen facility so we were able to make meals for the grandchildren.

Review 23:all what was rated and especially the swimming pool for my grandchildren.

Review 24:We stayed with our peewee hockey team and the boys were allowed the freedom to make a little noise and hang out. Perfect hotel for a family or team stay.

Review 25:The dog barking at 7:40 AM down the hall from our room. The barking continued for 20 to 25 minutes. We informed the desk clerk upon checking out and her response was, 'there is not suppose to be pets on the 3rd floor.' I hate getting woke up with a barking dog.

Review 26:Location, access and price were important aspects of our choice to stay here.

Review 27:Unfortunately I am a light sleeper and the light from the smoke detector and the air-conditioner were very bright.

Review 28:The onsite restaurant was wonderful. and the swimming pool is also a bonus. Pillows and bed were lovely. a very spacious room.

Review 29:The hotel exterior is not very inviting, It doesnt show well from the highway, and there were dogs barking from the truck of one of the suite residents overnight during our one night stay.

Review 30:The quality was what we have grown to expect from a Best Western, (which we didnt realise this hotel is no longer affiliated with). The room, bed, and showerhead were excellent, and so was the price. The quality of the restaurant, service and food was great. We didnt use the spa facilities.

Review 31:Yes I didn't like the $100 they charge in the event that something happens(incedentals) I think they call it. I never heard of such a thing. Also room was noisy from highway. Don't know why we weren't ask it we wanted quiet room as it didn't look full for that night.

Review 32:Convenience to highways. As we were travelling and unfamiliar with area and my niece new where it was located.

Review 33:We were given the wrong key. When it wouldn't work,we were given another key but when we opened the door it was to a room still occupied. Third time was OK.One elevator did not work and 6 of us got stuck in the other one for over 10 minutes. Noone from the front desk answered the elevator phone or alarm .Not a nice experience! .

Review 34:The room was clean, comfortable and a good size.It was nice to have a restaurant for breakfast right there. Families would appreciate the pool and waterside.

Review 35:Short toilet, older people prefer the new style higher 16 inch toilets.

Review 36:Room layout(hand sink was in the bath room). Large room not cramped. Clean, quiet.

Review 37:The person at the desk was less than welcoming, very focused on business rather than greeting people and making them feel welcome. And answering my initial questions regarding location or the room within the hotel (I wanted to be on the non-highway side AND close to my daughter and baby) I was made to feel rather stupid.

Review 38:Bed was too soft for someone with sensitive back. Can hear people in next rooms. There is no safety box in the rooms. For such an open design hotel, it would be good to have safety box. Location is convenient if you need something off the highway, but there is nothing around.

Review 39:Convenient location if want something between Vancouver and Whistler. Good price for the region and for what you get. The rooms are spacious. Free parking. Staff was not so friendly, but very helpful.

Review 40:Towels are a little rough. Would love it if they had a free continental breakfast.

Review 41:room was very clean and the bed was so comfortable. Plenty of lights and the air/heating system worked great. It wasn't too hot out so we just used the fan to keep the air flowing around the room. Very pleasant.

Review 42:Girl at front desk couldn't find our reservation, told us they were full. The Manager came forward & found our reservation & gave us a suite for the same price. One king bed & two bed chesterfields, which were not fit to sleep on, had to sleep on the chesterfield without opening it up.

Review 43:Overall it was a good choice for the price.

Review 44:We got there and they didn't have our room booked. Which we had confirmed through booking.com. It was unnecessarily stressful. We also got stuck in their elevator for 10 minutes. No apologies. We won't be going back.

Review 45:Not much.

Review 46:The cleaning staff were lovely and interact with us in a warm friendly way. However, the Manager at the front desk was terrible. Left us and other patrons at the front waiting for over 20 minutes trying to check out. The front was empty for 20 minutes and even had restaurant staff running around looking for her. There was no emergency, she just casually appeared like nothing was wrong, no apology and disagreed with us and other patrons and said she was only gone for 5 minutes and was very disrespectful and dismissive. We will choose another hotel next time because of her. We are in Squamish fairly regular and will likely move over to the Sandman. A little customer service goes a long way.

Review 47:Location for us was great and that it is pet friendly. The restaurant next door is very nice with great friendly service.

Review 48:The showers water flow was inconsistent. The elevator was broken, and the pool/hot tub was under maintenance.

Review 49:Big bed, use of microwave and fridge.

Review 50:The fitness is old and rusty. There is an issue with payment as it seems they charged me in USD and not in Canadian dollars which put me 80 USD more expensive than the booking confirmation. Trying to resolve this. Also first room we received was not cleaned - but staff member moved us to another room.

Review 51:Pool with waterslide is great for kids, good location, large comfortable room

Review 52:Had trouble connecting to Wifi. Front desk was a bit busy during checkin. Had to wait 15 mins.

Review 53:Location was great. So was the value. The attached restaurant was also very good.

Review 54:All good

Review 55:We've been travelling BC for the last 2 weeks, and this is the nicest hotel room of all the places we stayed. Big room and bathroom, excellent beds, cleanliness, and great staff. Would stay there again!

Review 56:Sorry to say that the key cards were a pain every night we got back my husband ran down to reception to re activate them. They were not kept near a mobile phone at all.

Review 57:Very good and friendly. Good location to get to our family. Very happy stay room was comfy and we enjoyed the pool very much . The cost was very good for our 5 day stay and meet all our needs as a family.

Review 58:We booked this room 3 months in advance for a wedding that was to start a 3 pm. We had requested early check in for 2 rooms at 1 pm so we could get ready after travelling from the island which we were told that it would not be a problem. When we arrived we were told that we could not get in till 3 pm because they couldn't guarantee the rooms would be ready even though we had requested it.To say the least we were scrambling to find somewhere to get ready. I will never stay there again and I would not recommend it to anyone. The staff was not the least bit helpful and really didn't care. Then when we arrived home there was a message on my machine telling me that if they didn't get my credit card # before noon they would cancel my reservation. How could they not have it when I have to give it to them to make the reservation. There would have been 6 people stranded with no place to stay. It's a good thing we got there before 12.

Review 59:There was no WiFi in the room. You had to go to the lobby. Cleaners only made the bed. Coffee was not refilled. Coffee pot was not cleaned out.

Review 60:Service was deplorable. The worst I have ever encountered in my life. Check in was a misery, everyone in front if me had a complaint of their own. The lock on my room door malfunctioned and so the door could not be closed from the outside. Maintenance came to investigate. He told me there was a new lock on order and meanwhile showed me how to get the door closed. Then I left for the day. Housekeeping must have come in after and not known how to close it because when I arrived back late in the night, the door was open. I tried to talk to guest services, but they actually told me nothing was wrong with the door and that it was all me, despite maintenance man acknowledging to me that it was broken and that I could not close it without monkeying with it. For 2 days, my door was left open. The woman behind the counter with red glasses is aweful. I also had several other frustrating moments, all service related. friends of mine that also stayed in the same hotel this past weekend for a wedding also complained to me about their check in experiences. I should have stayed at the sandman

Review 61:Comfortable bed

Review 62:Raj, the front desk woman who checked us in was rude. She spoke too fast and we couldn't understand her. She checked us in and then we stood there, I asked is that everything? she said yes. Then I had to prompt her to tell us where to go to the elevators and asked where the facilities were. I believe the front desk attendants should politely 'invite' you into their hotel and tell you where to find everything.

Review 63:I liked the location - each room probably has a beautiful mountain view. There is also a Tim Hortons/Wendys within 300 m. The beds were comfy and the hotel room was quiet and couldn't hear the neighbours.

Review 64:At arrival we were told that my creditcard was blocked for an extra $ 100 as an insurance against damage etc. Moreover we had to sign a paper in which was stated that the guest in all cases is responsible for theft of items from the room.

Review 65:The large, clean ensuite room.

Review 66:Inconsiderate check in related to the times of our event. We were attending an all day music festival. Even though we came by early and left our bags, they still called wondering where we were. Then forgot to activate our key cards, and charged a deposit.

Review 67:The beds could have been a bit more firm. I've back issues, and cannot sleep well on soft mattresses.

Review 68:The pool+spa was a winner, especially with our little one. The coffee dispenser in the lobby was a lifesaver, given that the lines in Tim Horton's next door were too long in the AM (and the coffee in the room sucked, but that's not unexpected). Fridge and microwave in the room are big plusses as well.

Review 69:Rooms were rather simple. My bed mattress was "lopsided" - but son's was OK. There was a music festival going on and the facility allowed groups of people to take rooms (heard them speaking about putting 4 cots in room). The place was - not surprisingly - loud.

Review 70:Clean,

Review 71:The air conditioning fan was a bit noisy in one of our two rooms,.

Review 72:Great location close to river rafting trips and tram to top of mountain in Squamish. Plus only an hour's drive south of Whistler. Great value; had pool & hot tub.

Review 73:It was a quiet clean room with comfortable beds - very suitable for our needs since we were out most of the time. I would like a little more sitting space if I were staying longer.

Review 74:It was a spacious clean room in a good location. We liked the restaurant and found the staff there very friendly, the food good and the prices reasonable.

Review 75:Although the faulty door lock was an initial issue, it was dealt with effectively by the manager who got us into a room that more closely matched our booking despite high volume.

Review 76:No restaurant on Mondays and Tuesday's. group of unsupervised teenagers monopolising the pool. Broken coffee machine and replacement also didn't work

Review 77:large room and comfortable bed

Review 78:Wifi didn't work in the room Reception personnel could have been friendlier

Review 79:Clean, well-furnished room Free parking Retail area with several food options a few min drive away (recommendation: Sushi Sen) Good location for a day-trip to Whistler

Review 80:I hated that they initially places my family with a 2 yo & nb babyin a smoking/pet room. The stench was so vile, I was wrenching in 3minutes. Thankfully they switched us immediately when we requested tochange rooms. I just don't know why they would do that?? We had nopet with us. The slide was a bit fast & the hot tub was much hotterthan 104. There were a lot of dirtbag looking people in the area, thankfully our car was not broken into.

Review 81:It was an affordable family vacation spot. Restaurant had great food.Staff made good recommendations for other places to eat. Pool was great.Good location in relation to lakes & mountain & the city. Thebeds were very comfortable too!

Review 82:The front desk staff appears to hate their jobs - during our stay we encountered three individuals, each of whom prefered to use their frown muscles more than their smile ones. For our two night stay, they only activated our key cards for one. The bathtub also seemed angled in such a way that the water never completely drained unless you pushed it with your feet. Plus, the beds were super uncomfortably soft - so much so that our toddler tossed and turned both nights with very little sleep.

Review 83:The toiletries were well stocked, and the room was clean. The A/C and heating worked well. The bathroom was also quite pleasant and clean. The location was close to downtown, and so, good for accessing some of the more popular locations.

Review 84:1. The room we were booked in had not been cleaned. Pizza boxes and empty beer bottles. 2. We were moved to a room next to the ice machine (which was noisy - both people and machine). 3. The building was evacuated the next morning due to a fire. We saw and smelled the smoke billowing from the lower level. Fortunately, we were leaving anyways. We collected our stuff and left the premises.

Review 85:Location was excellent for price.

Review 86:Hotel staff were pleasant, friendly and professional. Room was very clean, bed was soft and very comfy, I slept like a rock even though the room faced the highway. The timberwolf restaurant attached had a great menu with high quality food and our waitress Twila was beyond superb!

Review 87:All rooms are suppose to be non smoking but our room smelt like it had been smoked in at some point...not bad enough to go through the hassle of changing rooms, but just annoying for a non smoking family with young kids.

Review 88:Helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere, comfortable beds, fun waterslide and pool/hot tub, central location and easy for just passing through town, decent price, clean and tidy.

Review 89:Had to make an emergency optometrist appointment & wanted to delay checkout by an hour. Couldn't/wouldn't do it, gave several not very believable excuses, stayed here before, won't stay here again.

Review 90:The restaurant food was good.

Review 91:I was given an attitude by a female staff regarding my inquiries. As if she was talking to a little child. Very rude.

Review 92:The place itself is good plus the rates are very competitive

Review 93:They let us check in early to the room, but unfortunately the bath tub was not cleaned before we checked in. They were quick to fix it thou. Restraunt on site was very good, but expensive for a family of 5.

Review 94:The bed was very comfortable and the location was very quiet. Staff was helpful. The restaurant food located on the premises was delicious. Close to a lot of sightseeing venues. Absolutely no complaints.

Review 95:The noise of people outside your window when you are trying to sleep. Only because of the fact the staff wasn't trying to get the guy to move on and therefore i didn't get any sleep.

Review 96:Me and the kids loved the pool because it had a waterslide and it was conivently located to everything

Review 97:I would have like a more premium cable selection. However in squamish you spend most of the time outside anyway so it is not a huge drawback.

Review 98:I really liked how friendly the staff was during our stay. The hotel was very clean and there was ample parking during a busy weekend.

Review 99:Two girls at the front desk were not the happiest and did not seem so willing to help other guests. Mini fridge was very noisy so I ended up unplugging it.

Review 100:Location was convenient and for the most part was quiet.

Review 101:Can't think of any.

Review 102:Hotel room is big and clean - very professionally run. Compared to some city hotel, this is far better value for money. I wish I could stay there longer.

Review 103:The room was not clean at all. It hasn't been vacuumed in a while as there were pine needles all in the carpet, dust and cobwebs, water stain in the tub, and the sink was dirty.

Review 104:The staff couldn't look up my BW points number. He made me go online to find the BW phone number and then I had to call them myself. The hottub was a coldtub (found out from another guest, it was broken) where was the sign to tell us? The coldtub was dirty and smelly. The restaurant staff wished they were somewhere else but serving us. They were not helpful when we inquired about the free desert in the Squamish magazine. Wifi was coming and going.

Review 105:The comfy beds and a quiet night. The pool was fun for the kids.

Review 106:I can't say what I like or dislike because I went there 24 25 of December, no housekeeper no restaurant because almost everyone but the front desk person had the day off. What I can say for sure is that we we're comfortable in our suite.the WiFi connection was poor maybe because of the weather the pool was nice but what I liked the most was the gim. Adela

Review 107:I felt the commode should be ada compliant and the tub should be widerat the base.

Review 108:The fact that we saved over $200.00 on a last minute trip to Whistlerfor the New Years celebration!

Review 109:I did not like that they had no towels available to use for their pool. Also the guy that checked us in was in training and alone. He looked unsure of what he was doing. He also told me I could still use the pool even without a towel and when I asked how would I dry off.. He didn't call house keeping to even see if there were towels available- I went back into my room and used the 2 towels we had in there ( even though we had 4 people in the room!) We will not be returning to this hotel. I was not given a password to the WiFi so I'm not sure if there is even WiFi there.

Review 110:The water slide was fun.

Review 111:Remote didn't work, was a hassle to get it working. Cost for what you don't get. Worn hotel. Shower/bathtub-it curved up on the sides-awkward. No outlets outside bathroom by a mirror. Day shift reception gal-rude to the couple w/children before us.

Review 112:Night shift reception gal. Very helpful & eager to get our issues resolved. Less expensive than a Whistler stay at Christmas, but not as festive.

Review 113:Coffee maker did not work, carpet was well used, should be thoroughly cleaned or replaced, info in room on opening times of restaurant was not correct (opens at 7 am rather than 6 am M-F), Highway road noise, WIFI internet connection on 3rd floor is fair

Review 114:Friendly and helpful staff, close proximity to good restaurant, ability to open window

Review 115:Management did not appreciate my situation and made little attempt to repair our relationship. They offered me a different room which was a hassle to me to switch. Silly idea in my opinion. I'm tired, hungry and I've already sanitized my room: why move? Even a 10% discount or free breakfast would have been a nice gesture. I guess they could not afford that.

Review 116:The clerk tried her best to help. My door lock was broken. It took 1/2 hour to get inside. My takeout supper was getting cold.

Review 117:there was an additional $100 deposit added at check in. When questioned as to whether or not this was a damage deposit we did not receive a straight forward answer to this but where told we would get it back at check out.

Review 118:When we got there to check in, they did not have the booking from booking.com. Luckily they had room we got our accommodation, but we were concerned initially.

Review 119:Restaurant was friendly and the food most acceptable.

Review 120:- Pool water was cold for a small pool, and when the sun illuminated the pool, there was signs of occupancy floating in it, which I've never seen before

Review 121:- Quiet Location - Ample Parking - Pool for the Kids - Premium Cable - Extremely Clean Bathroom

Review 122:No invoice or any sort of charges document for customer. Paid by mastercard and that tiny receipt is the proof of payment including damage deposit $100. I have never been charged for damage deposit before. If because I have kids then it's a discremination. They said not charged then said it would be refunded via my mastercard. Will wait and see the statement a few weeks later. Anyway, Really Don't Like this.

Review 123:There were two beds in my room First I looked at seemed to be freshly made, but sheets were not ironed - seemed crumpled - so I was concerned that they hadn't been changed since last guest. Second bed was ok Very noisy - heating system or something....

Review 124:A breakfast included with the room would have been nice.

Review 125:Attended a weekend concert in Vancouver with my children but was unable to find a reasonable place to stay anywhere. Found the Best Western Mountain Retreat on line. It was in our budget so we drove to Squamish after the concert and had a great stay.

Review 126:Unfortunately, the rooms are starting to look old. The bathroom could use some work. The tub was clean, but it was marked up and looking like it needs to be replaced.

Review 127:The kids loved the pool with the slide. It is very fast, so you have to keep an eye out that they are not going to land on top of someone else. The restaurant was very good too!

Review 128:Front desk staff obviously didn't like each other and were making each others work tougher. This lead to delays and complications while checking in.

Review 129:Rooms were equipped well for cost of the stay.

Review 130:Arrived at 4 pm room not ready. They couldn't tell us how long it would take. Returned at 730 pm room still not ready. By that time we were understandably not happy. Eventually by 8 pm we were given a different room. The staff appogized but could not get management to send anyone to clean the rooms. No discount or restaurant voucher or anything else to try to make us feel that at least there was some kind of restitution for waiting 5 hours after check in time to get into our room. Would not recommend or return to this hotel

Review 131:I came to Vancouver to attend a conference. All reasonably priced hotels were already booked. I had stayed at a hostel the previous night and sorely needed and comfortable bed and a private bathroom. I was happily surprised to see that I had that comfort for the same price I the night at the hostel. It was an hour drive from the conference site, but lovely drive nonetheless.
