Reviews for The Omni Grove Park Inn - Asheville

Review 1:Spa was too expensive. Not only was a 50 minute massage expensive $190 but one had to pay a 20% gratuity and $175 spa fee

Review 2:Ambience of great room is without parallel with the fireplaces.

Review 3:Seriously think they need to move the Gingerbread houses to another venue. The hotel was packed with people NOT staying there; could barely walk around the hotel, the lounge areas were overrun with unruly children, etc. We have been to the hotel numerous times since we live fairly close, but will never venture over there again at Christmas. Very disappointed.

Review 4:Always gorgeous, especially with all the holiday decorations.

Review 5:Nothing!!!

Review 6:Beautiful, historical hotel with impeccable service, an amazing spa and wonderful atmosphere. I went with my bff of 34 years. We were celebrating out 50th birthdays. Management gave us a bottle of champagne to celebrate and some amazing chocolate covered strawberries too:) (see below pic)

Review 7:We expected the room to be a little nicer.

Review 8:You can't beat the view. At Christmas it was crowded and we'd like to return at a time when there are perhaps not so many people. That said the Spa was fantastic, the employees were fantastic, and the common areas are excellent. T

Review 9:Server in Vue restaraunt could have done better. Great dinner though. Food was really great.

Review 10:Original booking was for a single night. Loved it so much we stayed for another.

Review 11:One of the young parking valets was a little rude but chalked it up to age!

Review 12:Visited Asheville two weeks before Christmas to see Biltmore decorated for Christmas. Our stay at Omni Grove turned out to be as enjoyable as our visit to Biltmore. Lobby was decorated beautifully for Christmas and the Gingerbread House (really made out of gingerbread) inside the lobby that sold cookies and hot chocolate was really special. All the restaurants inside the hotel were great places to eat. Especially enjoyed the Blue Ridge. A little pricey for my budget but the Prime Rib was delicious and there were so many selections for sides and desserts. So many things to see and do at the Omni that we should have booked a few more days and enjoyed the amenities. Room was very nice with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Would definitely come back for another stay.

Review 13:The room (269) the bathroom facilities were cramped, certainly not handicap adequate nor appropriate for this quality hotel.

Review 14:It's just a beautiful hotel in a spectacular setting

Review 15:For over $500 a night, we should have had day passes to the spa as an option and the rooms were no nicer than a Comfort Inn. Very dissapointed. Next time I will stay in a regular hotel and just pay $10 to park and walk through hotel!

Review 16:We paid $500.00 for one night, way too much money. Also bad experience, waiter sold us a glass of wine for $22.oo. He should have told us a house red was that much. Don't think much of him. He was waiting for a sucker to come along.

Review 17:Very pretty hotel.

Review 18:The staff seemed disinterested and were disorganized. Very few we encountered seemed truly interested in guest satisfaction and we had a memorable encounter with the rudest night desk lady I have ever met at any hotel. Many managers who did not communicate with each other. Also, the worst valet service I have ever encountered. Enjoy waiting 15 minutes to have a valet come to your car to get your keys and see you out of your vehicle. Go to the indigo or bohemian and save yourself a couple hundred dollars for a better experience. Not worth the money and the worst Omni hotel I have ever encountered.

Review 19:The location is beautiful.

Review 20:Did not like the elevators in the Vanderbilt wing. It seemed like only 1 out of 4 was working and of course it was the one w/the huge pillar in front of the door which made it awkward to handle the baggage cart and getting around each other when getting on and off.

Review 21:The valet staff was excellent and the lobby was very inviting. They made you feel special which was nice. Plenty to see and do on site but had other plans so didn't get to take it all in. The huge fire place was awesome!

Review 22:When you book the room show for you everything is included but the spa is not included and is really expensive and the tax you pay 100 dolares per day.

Review 23:Have a beautiful view like a movie.

Review 24:Na

Review 25:From upon arrival, to opening the door the room to checking out... EXCELLENT! I got engaged here this weekend and The Grove Park Inn you made the most magical moment of our lives come true! The food was excellent, the care and professionalism from the staff all across the boards was a 10!! The negative reviews on here are because it's a nice place and they charge more for things, if you don't have the money to be here and have fun then don't come here and write a rotten review. Everything I could have imagined about this resort was blown out of the park!! Thanks again, will definitely return!

Review 26:Well, not exactly horrific. But when we attempted to view the video re Grove Park's history, it was impossible to hear the audio. Too many children screaming in the background. But it's Nice community service and so pleasant for the local school children.

Review 27:Its beauty.

Review 28:If you do not use the valet services, the parking was slightly confusing as the parking garage is tucked towards the side. Otherwise, no issues at all!

Review 29:I am not accustomed to staying at a hotel of this level, I selected this location for our engagement weekend. Needless to say, that was one of the most incredible weekends we have ever had and hands-down the best hotel you could possibly select. The staff was quick and immediate to render any assistance and openly friendly. The luggage staff member remembered my name two days after he helped us and that made a lasting impression. The site is expansive and offers everything you could imagine and is awe-inspiring walking into the lobby. The incredible mountain view is second to none.

Review 30:Staff of Vue 1913 and Blue Ridge restaurants were excellent! Very careful about my food allergies - and the food was very tasty! The location and view is amazing. The Inn is showing a little age - but is still a wonderful place to stay.

Review 31:Cocktails were very expensive and the food did not match the the surroundings. It was good and fair portions but nothing special even at their best restaurant.

Review 32:Friendliness of staff and quiet room in the old section Room 221. Would stay there again

Review 33:We were disappointed in not being able to see out of our bedroom windows. The traditional rooms had windows that open but are too high.

Review 34:The Vue 1913 restaurant for dinner was exceptional! The fireplaces were so inviting and cozy especially with rockers.

Review 35:The only thing I didn't like was we had to cut short our stay due to an unforeseen family matter.

Review 36:We loved the beauty of the hotel and its surroundings. The staff was wonderful and always helpful with a smile.

Review 37:Unfortunately, this year's annual Thanksgiving buffet my family always looks forward to and gathers for in the GPI Grand Ballroom was a disappointment. A pre-event menu I accessed online listed items that were not on the buffet. The worst was the desserts that were just little serve-yourself finger foods set out on trays that looked like they had come from Sam's Club. Where was the elaborate, previously posted 20-item dessert menu, including a promised "S'mores station"? The ice cream cartons were empty with no attendant to help. The service overall was sparse, and the off-beat duo providing music wasn't up to par, either. With the per-person cost increased to $59 this year, there was no reason or excuse for GPI "economizing" or whatever the problem was on its usually renowned Thanksgiving feast — not so royal this time. Please do better next year.

Review 38:My family loves how the Omni GPI always makes us feel like royalty--superb service and atmosphere throughout the hotel.

Review 39:Everything about the Grove Park Inn is breathtaking. I will never stay anywhere else ....... It is pricy but worth every penny. I wish everyone could experience the GPI at least once in their lifetime :) I loved the history tour at 10 am and breakfast overlooking the mountains :)

Review 40:I enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel the warm and inviting charm that drew you in through it's wonderful architecture and history. The beautiful mountainous views from the various decks, wonderful amenities and friendly staff.

Review 41:I booked the room with the view and got the room with no view at all. But they were willing to correct it.

Review 42:Amazing mattresses, lobby from the movies, vistas, two fireplaces in the lobby

Review 43:Overall we love the GPI but will never take the "economy" room again. It was 462, stuffy and really felt crowded. Otherwise it was fine. We usually do not book through those economy booking websites.

Review 44:A little pricey but considering where your staying................

Review 45:Loved the atmosphere and the overall friendliness of the staff and the felling of history of the hotel

Review 46:The only problem that we had was that we had reservations 24 hours in advance at the Vue 1913 for our anniversary dinner, when we arrived on time we were seated at the worst possible table in the entire restaurant.

Review 47:The great hall/meeting area was very relaxing and felt grand. All of the employees were extremely nice

Review 48:I was there on business and COULD NOT get internet access in my room. Ruined my stay.

Review 49:Beautiful facility, great lobby with huge fireplaces, great views

Review 50:Every one of your staff was well trained in their area and provided an enjoyable stay on the first leg of our journey. We loved the enjoyable response from both staff and guest when I brought my hound dog in. You take "pet friendly" to a new level.

Review 51:Food/ beverage was only fair for the price. Spa prices very high so could not afford what I am sure would have been an exceptional experience. The room was average but acceptable. Also wish you had a video on the TV of the history of the Grove Park Inn!

Review 52:Location was beautiful --and convenient to downtown, the Biltmore, major highways! Parking was extremely convenient. Staff we encountered at check in and dinner were exceptionally friendly. Gorgeous sunsets over the mountains!

Review 53:Too dark at night pulling up, being charged to park, too far from town, rooms not nearly spacious or luxurious enough for huge rate.

Review 54:The view and availability of different restaurant options. Casual style and atmosphere. Bed comfortable.

Review 55:The Edison and Terrace restaurants - all the meals came out cold!!!! - even after we complained and send them back. One morning the breakfast buffet's food was also cold!!! Room service breakfast was continental and kitchen sent up Salt & Pepper and no sugar for coffee and tea. It seem to me that they need an expediter in the kitchens to guarantee quality of the meals before they are presented to the guests. It appears that the meals re plated and seat there to get cold.

Review 56:Vue 1913 is rated 10. The staff at the restaurant was excellent. Brendan, Darren, Claudia and the chef were top notch. Caroline and Cody at the Edison restaurant were also excellent.

Review 57:a lot of walking - this resort is extra large - also their gift shop could use more supplies - we forgot a few things and needed to ride 6 miles to a CVS -

Review 58:Stunning views - awesome spa - service was exceptional

Review 59:Prices for rooms, food, and resort fee were too high for average middle class Americans. We only stayed here for a very special occasion.

Review 60:Our 6 th floor room in the historic inn was perfect for 2 lovers of arts and crafts style buildings

Review 61:Rooms in old section way past their primes - bathroom, shower/tub awkward. Regular parking a pain - even when a spot was available. Expensive.

Review 62:Iconic. Nifty history. Terrific sothwest view over great landscaping, and look at the valley below. Chatty, friendly staff. Buffet bkfst nice.

Review 63:Had to leave to eat dinner due to the only time available was 9:30pm on Friday night. We requested at 5:30pm. All other locations were booked as well.

Review 64:The overall experience of such a beautiful, unique location.

Review 65:My only complaint is that we called ahead to ask about spa passes and were told they were being sold on the weekend and we couldn't reserve until that day. We asked again when we checked in for the next day and they again confirmed we could go to the spa first thing in the morning and get them on a first come-first serve basis. We then went to check out the spa that night and were told they were actually not selling any day passes over the weekend any longer unless you had a scheduled spa service which were almost entirely booked at that point. It was disappointing but even more so when we had done our "homework" and were told by several sources they were available. Had we known we could have made a decision to book appointments while they were still available. For a place known for their world class spa, I would think the staff would all be better informed on the availability and be able to clearly communicate that to guests. Just disappointing...

Review 66:Quite pricey

Review 67:Amazing staff who couldn't do enough for us. Stunning hotel with magnifient views and the breakfast was superb! We also ate in the Edison restaurant and the food was very good.

Review 68:The quality of the towels were not good. I expected thick, fluffy towels. We stayed in the Vanderbilt wing and it smelled in the hallway but the rooms and area appeared very clean.

Review 69:The staff was very attentive.

Review 70:the only thing and It may be our not understanding how it worked, the floors do not mention where to go to garage and when you enter stairs sometimes confusing, we could not get to garage easily again maybe us understanding it all

Review 71:the atmosphere for our 50th was so perfect, the terrace and view was so beautiful

Review 72:Had to gear back and be patient for elevator. Operators made it easy. Dining on the terrace at night gets a bit crowded and puts added pressure on servers. Use black napkins at night when many diners wear black.

Review 73:Main lodge and furnishings. Great hall. Food, although pricey, was outstanding. We set three meals here. Breakfast was tops, and I'm not a fan of buffets.

Review 74:Couldn't view the Spa area unless you purchased access, didn't know that beforehand!

Review 75:The views are absolutely breathtaking especially in the Fall! Loved the easy hiking trail near entrance to hotel!

Review 76:Attention to detail and southern hospitality. My wife and I celebrated her birthday and our 55th anniversary. The hotel manager (Kirk), staff and bellboy (Dave) could not do enough to make our stay more memorable.

Review 77:I made a tee-time from your webside through Golf Switch for 9/25/15. We cancelled the tee time at the hotel the night before because of weather. $126.00 was still charged to our AMEX by Golf Switch. I left a message on 9/28 at the hotel & still no reply. We are still very unhappy about that.

Review 78:The food was very mediocre except for some appetizers we had out on the patio which I thought were very good (trout fritters) and cheese plate. Our dinner was very bland in the Edison Room. Also we checked out at 11 am and when we went to have breakfast, we were told we missed the breakfast time and could only have lunch at 11. We were very disappointed as we slept in (which you want to do on vacation) and wanted to have breakfast at 11.

Review 79:I thought the facility was magnificent and the room was spacious, clean and beds extremely comfortable. The grounds were beautiful and general ambiance was delightful.

Review 80:There was not one thing that we didn't like.. we had the best time!! The ambience of the Inn, the staff, the food, THE VIEWS!! all was absolutely wonderful!! We look forward to a visit again to GPI... Dan & Dana:)

Review 81:Everything was perfect! We had a memorable 20th anniversary. From the moment we stepped into the Grove Park, they made every effort to make our stay perfect! The restuarants were perfection, the spa was fabulous, and the shops we fun to visit. We highly recommend the Grove Park and will be visiting again soon!

Review 82:We stayed here for our 6th year anniversary. The hotel is very unique in its stone foundation and is beautifully located near the Blue Ridge Mountians. The staff were extremely friendly and the spa is one of the best I've been to around the world. I chose to stay here over the Biltmore. Well worth it. The Sunset Terrace is a beautiful place to enjoy a dinner with a view and the food is equally as good. You will not be disappointed.

Review 83:Too many morning noises outside. Too early. Loud machines and what not preparing the golf course for the day. Wish we could have gotten a room in the Main Inn.

Review 84:Asked for a Mountain View on an upper floor. Got it. Gorgeous. Kept the big windows opened all night. Liked the wing (even though we really would have enjoyed a room in the Main Inn). Dinner and breakfast were delicious with incredible views.

Review 85:Don't know of anything I did not like!!

Review 86:Enjoying the view whether at the sports bar or the Sunset Terrace. The food was excellent and I my wife wait to go back to the spa.

Review 87:Perfect. We had our daughter's wedding there. Everything went well. After we closed the wedding down, we all went to the dueling piano bar. It was very fun.

Review 88:Was not aware of all the added fees; parking, spa, etc. I felt the spa access should have been inclusive.

Review 89:I loved the arts and craft style hotel and amazing views. Convenient location to Asheville and Biltmore.

Review 90:Our meal on the terrace was disappointing. When we were last there, we ordered crab cakes which were the best I ever had. This time they were below par. Also, our waiter was just average. Wasn't very friendly and did not explain the menu very well. Don't remember his name but he was bald.

Review 91:Friendliness of staff. Fireplace. Dining on terrace. Gift shops.

Review 92:As much as we loved being in the original section of the hotel, the rooms are not very quiet. We could literally hear every word of our neighbors conversation. But that is literally the only negative thing we could say about the hotel.

Review 93:The grounds and hotel were beautiful. We love that they have preserved the beauty of the hotel and that it still has the feeling of stepping back in time.

Review 94:We ate in a couple restaurants on the premises. The food was fine and the atmosphere was super. Wee ate at the Sunset Terrace and felt that the food and presentation fell a little short.

Review 95:The staff was wonderful and the view is spectacular!

Review 96:For the price we paid and the quality of this resort, I could NOT believe that they had a flat sheet on our king size bed mattress rather than a fitted sheet. The sheet was not big enough to tuck under so kept riding up and bunching up under me all night each night. And, the pillows were puffy but flattened out as soon as you layed your head down.

Review 97:Lovely facilities, wonderful staff, great location with fabulous views. We really enjoyed the resort and our stay.

Review 98:The food is very good but a bit overpriced.

Review 99:The facility is excellent. Every part has a very comfortable setting and view. The history and its presentation is tremendous.

Review 100:Resort fee of $25 per day should be included in the price of the room as you cannot opt out of it, whether you use the items listed or not. Also, our room had a sloped roof over the toilet meaning you had to sit to use the facilities whether you needed to or not. That was annoying!

Review 101:Love this property, the staff, the location could not be better! Took a tour of the property and enjoyed learning about it.

Review 102:I felt the Air Conditioning temperatures within the hallways and restaurants was a bit too cool for my liking. That was it, everything else was excellent. Some people like cold temperatures and I like it more a more moderate temperature.

Review 103:What I liked about our weekend getaway was the location, the view, the close proximity to downtown Asheville; the golf course, the food at all of the restaurants and the easy drive home to Belmont, NC, just two hours away. This is one of the best places to go for a romantic weekend getaway and we never even made it to the Spa, we plan to return to fully enjoy the beautiful Spa on site.

Review 104:Irons in room are subpar.I would like to use spa pool without spending $75.00 per person or put in outdoor pool for families and guests as at Homestead.staff need new uniforms. Some are faded or illfitting on larger staff members.

Review 105:Beautiful historical Inn.Omni has done a good job of maintaining the history along with modern updates.

Review 106:It is not a good deal for the money. Coffee is part of the resort fee? That is ridiculous. Also, the resort fee covers wi-fi access. Most hotels cover both of those things as part of the normal bill. The resort fee should cover things like access to the spa which it does not. Our room had some issues as well. The temperature of the shower water was very sketchy, the sink kept trying to stop us, and the toilet was cranky.

Review 107:The history and architecture of the place is excellent. Would have enjoyed an opportunity to buy a book about this place.

Review 108:Could not get a day pass for the spa. Food at the Sunset Terrace is ala carte. The portions are huge. Had our server told us how large the portions are we would never had ordered as much food.

Review 109:Scenery and view.

Review 110:Ben, our server at Sunset Terrace, was very friendly -- but really too slow. And, he seemed to go to other tables first even if we had specifically asked for us to come to our table. In contrast, the servers in Einstein's and Vue 1913 were excellent. We were surprised that there was only one server for lunch at the spa. But otherwise the personnel at the spa were excellent!

Review 111:The location and the facilities are fabulous. Everything about the spa is first rate. The food was excellent.

Review 112:Room service arrived very late in the afternoon (after a phone call to the front desk). Towels were removed from the room and not replenished. Our friends in the neighboring room gave us their extra ones for us to use. There may have been some confusion with the room service staff?

Review 113:Location and weather was wonderful. Elevator operator, door person and valet were very helpful and courteous.

Review 114:Price for the room we had seemed a bit overpriced. More spa lounge chairs and umbrellas were needed.

Review 115:Location and spa amenties. Underwater music in pools was amazing.

Review 116:Staff were not all super nice...it was fine, but just noticeable that some were a little rude/impatient. Others made up for it...the staff who were in question were at Edison's-host/hostess and at front desk initially.

Review 117:Beautiful and relaxing resort. Loved it

Review 118:Sheets were rough and "low quality" for the price of the room. It took us forever to find a breakfast spot. No "moderate priced" option. Buffett or carry out café. Again, not what I would expect in a hotel of this price range.

Review 119:Historical tour of the hotel.

Review 120:My friend and myself stayed there on 7/30/2015. We checked in about 6:30PM-7:00PM. We came up to the valet to give them a car, and it seemed to be a lot of cars not parked yet and that they were short staffed. They loaded our bags and we went in. At registration the front desk clerk said we were in the historical room. I wasn't sure what that meant until we got to the room and I felt we were in a room that belonged in a summer camp movie. We figured one night we would be fine. We were starving and needed to go down to eat, but ended up waiting for our luggage for over 30 minutes. We called down to the restaurant and the earliest reservation was 9:15PM (this was on a Thursday). We tried the other two restaurants and they had a wait too, even though all three restaurants had open tables (another area short staffed). We finally got seated at 9:40, and had a so-so dinner that cost over $100. We checked out at 8:30AM, and our whole 13 hour stay cost over $600. The resort fee (which we used none of) and the taxes were ridiculous. We won't be back.

Review 121:The location was beautiful, but save your money and just go there for a drink to see the view.

Review 122:upon arrival there was a random pony tail holder on night stand. there was no free breakfast so I rated it low.

Review 123:view was great, old elevators were charming at first then became a little bit of a hassle.

Review 124:Everything had a price even a welcome bottle of water costing $5, but at a mini market isc $1.79. All food & drink ( 2 glasses of wine cost $34.00) were outrageous.

Review 125:View

Review 126:We have been here many times and love the gorgeous location and views are out of this world. Variety of restaurants and bars have gotten better over the years with lots of choices! Definitely our hotel of choice in Asheville!

Review 127:PRICES! Let's get real, here! Over $500.00 for a room in the OLD portion of the hotel with a burned out light bulb in the bathroom. Shame on you!!! Or how about $24.00 for a 9oz. glass of Mark West Pinot Noir that retails for $9.99 a bottle in my local grocery store. (I know the vintage was not exclusive to The Grove Park Inn). Sunday brunch was FABULOUS but....$8.00 for a Virgin Bloody Mary? which became $14.00 by adding Grey Goose vodka? $3.75 for a can of Diet Coke. There is also a polite printed message, in room, stating quiet appreciated between 10PM and 8AM. Wailing/moaning children don't abide by schedules and should not be allowed in the OLD portion of the hotel!

Review 128:Beauty of location and history of venue.

Review 129:The hotel is beautifully preserved, you truly feel like a part of history. The staff is amazing! This is a wonderful place for romantic, family or a corporate event.

Review 130:the problem we had with the assigned room was immediatly taken care of by the front desk with kindness and understanding

Review 131:it is always a pleasure to stay there with such pleasant happy staff....they had learned it was my 75th birthday and I had a card and candy on the bed and a free dessert...wonderful

Review 132:The meals in the restaurant were really overpriced, which I could have ignored if the food had been as good as the high price tag implied. I expected to pay a premium for the view/location but I assumed the quality of food served would also be excellent. It was disappointing, but our server was pleasant and attentive.

Review 133:The room was lovely, clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of the golf course. The view from the restaurant was also spectacular, and the staff was very accommodating. Loved wandering the grounds, the shops and restaurants. Wished we'd had time for the tour and to take advantage of all the amenities.

Review 134:Poor greeting on arrival. Crowded and " touristy". Too many additional charges for a hotel on the upper cost range. Shabby and dreary room interiors.

Review 135:Enjoyed The history of the hotel and the view.
