Reviews for Lavender Inn by the Sea

Review 1:Our room had a broken heater - we were really cold at night (January). Breakfast was included, but there were only 2-3 types of bagels, some apples and coffee. No eggs, no cheese, no pancakes.

Review 2:The territory is great - lots of flowers (and colibries!), a cute little fountain near the parking and a small pool. They have bikes for rent and it's free (you can get them in the hotel across the street). Great idea having snacks all day long - wine, cheese, cookies, apples.

Review 3:Super friendly and helpful staff. Nice touches such as a free bottle of champagne and water bottles. Enjoyed the availability of the continental breakfast and milk & cookie hours. The location was ideal and was glad that it was very quiet and clean.

Review 4:One of the staff was miserable and did not make you feel that welcome. Somebody the facilities were in a sister hotel but this was just across the road

Review 5:We found the location perfect, some may find that it is a bit to close to the grittier part of town, but we found some good bars etc close by. Good access to beach too. Milk and cookies and the wine and cheese were a well received bonus!

Review 6:The people staying were a bit noisy.

Review 7:We were on a Backroads bike trip from Monterey to Santa Barbara. We needed to leave our car in Santa Barbara for a few days. Lavenders Inn graciously let us leave it with them until our stay. It was so helpful to us, we will definitely stay there again. Staff is awesome.

Review 8:The fact that we were only staying one night!

Review 9:Staff very friendly and helpful. Free upgrade to junior suite. Lovely room and very comfortable bed. Champagne, cookies and milk, wine and cheese all fantastic little touches. Breakfast was also very nice with a lot of choice. Very close to the main attractions of Santa Barbara.

Review 10:Short walk to harbour and beach, comfortable beds, nice pool area and lovely extras of cheese and wine, milk and cookies and bottle of sparkling wine on arrival.

Review 11:Nothing- I really liked everything

Review 12:Really liked the large comfortable room, the wine hour, the good breakfast and the free champagne in our fridge. A really charming inn with helpful friendly staff.

Review 13:The bathroom was very pretty and had a great shower but though lovely to look at, the pedestal sink prohibits space for toiletries. My secret is to place a towel in the sink and rest makeup and hair supplies in it. A shelf above the sink would help.

Review 14:Enjoyed stepping back in time and seeing flowered wallpaper, etc. This does not imply that the decor was old, just charming and well done. It reminded us of Cape Cod, Mass. It felt like a B & B; cozy living room where breakfast was attractively displayed, wine & cheese from 4:30 - 6:00, cookies & milk after 6:30 plus bottle of Champagne in room frig. Great toiletries too.

Review 15:Can't think of anything.

Review 16:Lovely accommodations at the Lavender Inn. Our room was very nice and very quiet for a good night's sleep. It was also very spacious. One thing in particular that I appreciated was the vanity area outside the bathroom. Loved receiving a bottle of champagne in our room when we checked in. The wine and cheese in the evening, cookies & milk and all the great movies available- all nice extra touches.Staff friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back for another visit.

Review 17:All of the staff were excellent, extremely helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, yogurt and berries, toast and pastries. They even have proper English tea. Cheese and wine is served in the afternoon and there are complimentary bikes also. We received a bottle of sparkling wine which was a lovely surprise. Everything about this hotel was wonderful and we would definitely stay here again.

Review 18:It was all good

Review 19:Everything was wonderful from the moment we checked in. The hotel reception staff couldn't have been more helpful. The use of hotel bikes was amazing, as was the location of the hotel. Cheese and wine in the evening and cookies and milk before bed was a wonderful treat. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Santa Barbara

Review 20:Some of the staff ( monthly the man) are really polite and friendly but the female ones where not that friendly.

Review 21:Really nice hotel and we received a card for our honeymoon. The swimming pool and hot tub are really nice.

Review 22:Felt very pampered round the clock, beds very comfortable, relaxed but always professional athmosphere, great romantic place just 5 minutes from the pazific, we would return for sure!

Review 23:Nothing to dislike

Review 24:Within walking distance of the beach (5 mins) Stearns Wharf (10 mins) and the main shopping centre in State Street (25 mins) Also within easy walking distance of restaurants. Breakfast was good - fresh fruit, yoghurt and croissants - eaten in our room. Afternoon nibbles and wine excellent - met some lovely people at this. In the evening there was cookies and milk. Swimming pool. Use of coin-op laundry. Great service. Lots of parking.

Review 25:İt is bay bu the sea close to sea.çar noises and pollution so ne ar to hotel. You can not see who is in charge. İ aşk for the night manager for the smeel in room no öne comes. And they double charged. Both my card and my husband because i changed the credit card during checkout. İ can not hear responses

Review 26:On our second day there was not sufficient room for guests to sit down to eat their breakfast. Perhaps the hotel should allow its guests to use the sister hotel at busy times.

Review 27:I was very impressed by Iris the receptionist. She gave us some useful advice about SB and kindly explained some confusion we had over over deluxe room.

Review 28:room was comfortable with lots of nice features - this hotel makes a real effort to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay with an excellent breakfast plus the afternoon/evening snacks. would definitely recommend to others and hope to stay again.

Review 29:Nothing!

Review 30:The motel was not big making it very manageable. Our room was very spacious & the décor classy. The champagne on arrival was a pleasant touch as was the complimentary wine & cheese & biscuits. The outside seating area was very comfortable to partake the above!

Review 31:The bathroom were very small. The front desk young girl was not very knowledgeable of shopping spots or places to eat! But we found just what we wanted with Alice across the street at your sister hotel. Thank you!

Review 32:Loved the look of the Lavendar Inn! The outside patio is charming to sit, relax and listen to the water fountain while enjoying the complimentary cheese and crackers in the afternoon! A very convenient location! ....Such a great time. thank you!

Review 33:Lavender Inn gave us a very warm welcome, the room was comfy and had everything we needed. Bath robes were excellent!! Cheese and wine party and Milk and cookies made us feel at home. Breakfast was on the patio which on a cold day is a little chilly. Otherwise an excellent place to stay.

Review 34:Too much traffic noise...on a busy street.

Review 35:All the extra touches they offer throughout the day like a light breakfast, wine and cheese, cookies and milk.

Review 36:No bath in the room (shower only) but there is a great spa.

Review 37:Free parking and free wifi. The complimentary champagne in the room. The bikes to rent for free. The cheese and wine in the lobby. Tze free breakfast. Nice atmosphere.

Review 38:The queen bed needed replacing, very uncomfortable. 2 story and no lift for heavy suitcases.

Review 39:You can walk to the harbour, shops and restaurants. Great complimentary wine and cheese followed by freshly cooked cookies and milk every afternoon at 4.30. Great wi fi. Lovely breakfast.

Review 40:The Lavender Inn was everything we were looking for. Conveniant parking, comfortable rooms, nice continental breakfast and even though it isn't right in the center of Santa Barbara, it is within walking distance to the pier and State street. We would stay at the Lavender Inn again.

Review 41:The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and the wine they served in the evening was quite good. Also, this hotel is a short walk from the train station.

Review 42:Good location Free bicycle Breakfast, champagne, milk and cookies, cheese and wine a nice touch Toiletries Good range of dvd's if you want a night in

Review 43:Lovely, comfortable room, great location, super friendly and helpful staff. We especially loved the afternoon wine and cheese, evening cookies, and nice little breakfast. They also have free DVDs you can check out. Very close to the pier and town.

Review 44:The 'deluxe' breakfast was anything but! A small sitting area with no tables other than outside on the roadside, and limited choice by comparison to other cheaper places. Distinct lack of electrical sockets in the room for the modern day traveller.

Review 45:Clean, comfortable, free parking and close to harbour. Quiet. Nice swimming pool.

Review 46:Breakfast is really poor! Plus there's only a few (couch) seats indoors, otherwise you have to sit on a balcony by the street, or by your room… if you find a spot! It would have been better with no breakfast and cheaper!

Review 47:Position, comfort, cleanliness, wifi, staff

Review 48:Nothing

Review 49:Although more of a travel lodge it was lovely. Beautiful rooms and bathroom, spotlessly clean, nice pool and very good breakfast. All staff were lovely and very helpful. Would recommend it.

Review 50:the staff was very friendly. They had wine and cheese in the evening and continental breakfast in the morning. The hotel is slightly old but seems to be well kept.

Review 51:Nothing. We liked everything

Review 52:We loved the friendly staff. Breakfast was really good and the wine and cheese in early evening, cookies and milk later made us feel like we were home. Brenda St. John's Newfoundland Canada

Review 53:Will request 1st floor room next time as there is no elevator.

Review 54:The amenities were great - wine and cheese in the afternoon was a real treat. Very convenient to visit our granddaughter at UCSB and convenient to town. Would stay there again and reccommend it to friends.

Review 55:WiFi keeps disconnecting. Room was comfortable and clean, but a bit dated.

Review 56:Continental breakfast, wine/cheese happy hour, quiet, champagne upon arrival.

Review 57:It was the hotel/motel that offered the worst cost-benefit throughout our trip

Review 58:The breakfast is included in the price which is important for a family traveling with three persons

Review 59:Big disappointment view only of Ugly shady looking homes and unsafe park across street. Had to drive to get to ocean scenery. Very busy street & lots of road work.

Review 60:The rooms were nice & comfy. Quiet at night, enjoyed the wine & cheese, & continental breakfast in very small side room near door entrance. The staff was super nice!

Review 61:It was our last night in the USA and we were able to relax at night and in the morning we rode bikes along the water front and had a very casual day before our flight back to Australia. Very well located.

Review 62:Great staff, comfortable room, slightly dated furnishings but an absolute gem, booked 1 night stayed 2 wish it could have ben more. The champagne chilling in fridge at check is a lovely touch considering the hotel I had just checked out of charged for water.

Review 63:Nice continental breakfast especially as there was fruit Very comfortable bed Good Internet connection Location - fairly close to the sea and walking distance to amtrak station

Review 64:The staff was great. We were celabrating a birthday and they had a bottle of champaine in the room and then cam to the room with cholcolate.Very close to the train station.

Review 65:The Wi-fi signal at isn't as strong as one would hope for if you are in a room at the edge of the property.

Review 66:The staff was utterly fantastic. The breakfast in the morning had nice options and was very tasty. The room had a wonderful lavender smell when you enter. The complementary bottle of champagne is a very unique gesture.

Review 67:Well-situated in Santa Barbara, just minutes from the sea. Clean, comfortable, quiet accommodation. The welcome bottle of champagne and the wine and cheese reception was a lovely touch, with also a great continental breakfast selection. We really enjoyed our stay!

Review 68:The room had dust which led me to have doubts on the cleaness.

Review 69:The room and the bathroom are fine. The breakfast is acceptable, although the place is very small.

Review 70:Both my husband and I awoke with aching backs. Maybe the mattresses were too soft for us?

Review 71:Friendly staff, tastefully decorated everywhere, rooms were very quiet, everything was very clean, breakfast was hearty and healthy.

Review 72:Construction going on in lobby...very loud banging. No employees knew where breakfast would be served.

Review 73:Parking lot smelled like lavender.....coffee in lobby

Review 74:Like movie with typical american motel with all these cars outside. But very clean, full of flora, with cozy room and big bathroom. Even swimming pool was tempting! Champagne included! Definately like rated on Booking.com 8,6 /10. For me 10/10 in this class. We have stayed in 4 stars hotels and they weren't so good as Lavender.

Review 75:Room was dark. It's a motel with hotel prices. felt ripped off at over $200. per night. Breakfast was appalling. Plastic glasses, food awful, and use your own tray to clear away your own table. No lift. Staff not at all helpful.

Review 76:It's in walking distance of Santa Barbara attractions. Room nice, clean.

Review 77:As this is an old property there are a few minor things that could do with a little attention, such as the wardrobe doors that don't close properly.

Review 78:Bottle of champagne awaits you in the room, comfortable bed and nicely stocked bathroom. Nice flat screen TV and DVD player. Breakfast provided is basic, no hot food, but is everything provided was good.. A laptop sized safe is provided in the room.

Review 79:We had a 1 bedroom suite. In the bedroom there was a desk with a TV taking up room that would have been better served as a vanity/makeup area. Bathroom was small

Review 80:It was an easy walk to the waterfront. Wine/cheese in the afternoon was a lovely touch. Staff were very helpful with recommendations

Review 81:It's not a dislike more a suggestion. Only one washer and dryer available to guests - maybe two of each would be useful.

Review 82:My wife and I were on a month long visit to the USA from Ipswich in England. We found both the Lavender Inn and Santa Barbara great places to stay. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel truly welcome. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good and the additional provision of free wine, cheese and biscuits in the afternoon made for a most relaxing stay. The Inn is close enough to the harbour, pier (wharf) and town centre to allow you to walk if you wish; the pool is large and relaxing. Add to this the sunshine, the historic parts of Santa Barbara, the closeness of wine country and it all becomes a great vacation. All of the staff were friendly and provided help and information as and when needed. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Inn and hopefully we may make it back there one day.

Review 83:Really friendly and helpful staff. Over and above the excellent accommodation were the unexpected extras including a bottle of fizz in the bedroom, cheese and wine in the afternoon and biscuits with milk at bedtime. A great experience!

Review 84:Nothing.

Review 85:Great and welcoming staff, feels like being guests in a private home. Cozy and welcoming room, obviously don't expect the Plaza, but it's nice, roomy, and convenient.

Review 86:This lovely little Hotel is very close to the harbour and you can reach downtown fastly :-) The room is lovely decoratet, the Pool is nice, continental breakfast is really good and you get cookies at night! A bottle of Champagne is included too!! :-)

Review 87:The hotel is on a really busy road and the layout means people walk past your room, your can hear doors slamming etc so quite noisy. For the money not as luxurious as we would have liked....and the sister hotel across the road seems much nicer for the same price!

Review 88:Really convenient location to explore (although don't be fooled by the title, it isn't on the seafront!), free rental bikes, pleasant staff, comfy bed

Review 89:The room was very comfortable. Good powerful shower Fridge in room - stocked with a bottle of free champagne! Wine and cheese and cookies and milk in the evening were good. Nice continental breakfast. Good wifi. Clean and pretty pool and hot tub. Good loungers. The most friendly staff.

Review 90:Liked the beautiful room, the lavender sachets, the courtesy bottle of champagne, the free bicycles, the location close to the beach and pier, the breakfast .... it was just perfect and we all wished we could have stayed longer.

Review 91:Rather expensive.

Review 92:Excellent location close to the beach and the restaurants. Nice room and garden. The suggestions for restaurants are excellent (e.g. Paridise Cafe).

Review 93:The service. How helpful everyone was. Especially Sofia . The room was very quiet. The champagne on arrival was definite plus. The location.

Review 94:The pool is nice to relax after a hot day - secure your pool towels early as they run out around mid-afternoon. The room was a little stuffy and difficult aerate.

Review 95:The hotel is charming and well situated. Not far from the beach or downtown. The room (#15 / 2 queen beds) was standard size but comfortable. We were surprised to find a complementary bottle of champagne. The complementary breakfast is better than in most hotels, and they offer wine and cheese as well as cookies and milk in the afternoon. The staff was friendly and helpful. 12:00 checkout was appreciated.

Review 96:Room was a bit dark but still comfortable.

Review 97:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Loved borrowing the beach cruisers to ride down to the Santa Barbara beach front. Lots of little extras were nice like the wine and cheese, cookies, bottle of champagne and continental breakfast.

Review 98:Shortage of lounge chairs by the pool and the hot tub was uninviting. It was older and surrounded by trees that allowed leaves to fall on you an in the tub.

Review 99:It was a comfortable, quaint hotel with wonderful , accommodating staff. Loved the pool - beautiful tile and always very clean.

Review 100:I would have really liked a little counter space in the bathroom. Not a huge deal for one night but there is really no place to put toiletries on a pedestal sink.

Review 101:The staff was really nice and the little extras were great. We enjoyed wine and cheese right after check in, cookies after dinner, champagne in the room, and a (better than expected) cold breakfast buffet before heading out in the morning. It was a short walk to the beach and the room and pool area were clean and well maintained. It was a little pricier than some of the chain hotels in the area but I think it was worth it.

Review 102:the room stayed warm even with the air conditioner running all night and the fan turned on.

Review 103:amenities - robe, soap, makeup mirror, luggage rack, water bottles, champagne, morning breakfast choices.

Review 104:Friendly service.

Review 105:Pool man woke us up each morning.

Review 106:Bed was comfy, shower great, good breakfast

Review 107:Location, able to rent bikes, wine & cheese

Review 108:Peter and Gus at front desk were simply outstanding, friendly and most helpful. Give them a raise! David C. Jones

Review 109:Loved the evening wine and cheese, breakfast was yummy. Staff helpful

Review 110:Our room didn't have a plastic bag for dirty clothes.

Review 111:Breakfast on the patio. Good location ... close to the beach.

Review 112:Everything

Review 113:Conveniently located near State Street and the ocean. Enjoyed the use of their bicycles to tour the area. The room was comfortable and clean.

Review 114:It was alot of money for what it was nowhere close to get a bite to eat late at night doesnt cater for late arrivals

Review 115:The bed was comfortable

Review 116:A bar would have been beneficial

Review 117:Good location at a reasonable price

Review 118:Too smal breakfast for the prize

Review 119:Nice rooms. Clean and nice beds.

Review 120:Location and good staff
