Reviews for Floridan Palace Hotel

Review 1:The hotel needed some type of transportation available even if it is at a minimal cost. The parking lot is terrible! In much need to be paved as well as a larger one. I understand the hotel is bound by guidelines of a historical site however, some type of vending drinks and snacks need to be available to purchase as well as ice being conveniently located instead of down stairs.

Review 2:The hotel was beautifully decorated with large rooms.

Review 3:The room was just ok cleanliness wise. The toilet was a little dirty and the bed was starting to come apart. But the room did its job.

Review 4:Location was decent.

Review 5:1. The parking lot appears abandoned with no security and at the edge of a questionable area downtown. They offered no valet parking and charged $15 for overnight parking 2. Called to ask for a towel since they only put one for two people and never got it. 3. The bar had a few customers, but the two bartenders seemed overwhelmed and never got an order from us, so we left.

Review 6:Looks pretty and has old charm

Review 7:No bellhop. Had to get dolly and wheel it around, outside, to the side door on Florida Ave. A/c not working first night. Engineer came in and fixed it on second night. Food, marginal, very, very slow kitchen and seafood only so-so.

Review 8:Good location. Clean

Review 9:The room smelled musty, maybe moldy and felt a little damp. We forgot our toothpaste and the hotel did not have any.

Review 10:Beautiful hotel. Loved the bar and the building itself.

Review 11:If we could put zero we would. Stayed on the 19th floor the smell of must and mildew was so appalling! Seriously smelled as if this place had been closed off for decades. Nothing special here! No coffee in your room, TV is pointed the wrong way no ice machines u have to go to the bar. SAVE YOUR MONEY! I also think we got charged for the waters in our room because we got billed 25.00 for extra cleaning charge! This room was practically as we found it!

Review 12:If we could put zero we would. Stayed on the 19th floor the smell of must and mildew was so appalling! Seriously smelled as if this place had been closed off for decades. Nothing special here! No coffee in your room, TV is pointed the wrong way no ice machines u have to go to the bar.

Review 13:The key-card system was faulty. In a 3 night stay I had to have my door keys re-programmed 8 or 9 times. The front desk staff was friendly at first, but as my frustration mounted with the key card situation, they began to be snotty and accusatory and entirely unhelpful and unprofessional. They did not offer any solutions to the problem except to have me continue to come from the 12th floor back to the front desk to have my card rekeyed multiple times a day. Further, I was not compensated in any way for the inconvenience that was clearly their fault.

Review 14:Location was good for convention center. Hotel was nicely decorated and comfortable

Review 15:My room smelled of mildew, but I was only staying for the night, so just went to bed. I would not stay again if this is the case with the other rooms.

Review 16:Very nicely updated. Friendly staff. Great location.

Review 17:Old building. Our floor smelled weirdly. The water had no pressure in the shower. There was a train rail close by and the noise (very load) woke us up both nights.

Review 18:spacious room. Close to the convention centre and downtown.

Review 19:Nineteen floor hotel. I was on the eighteenth floor. Only twenty guests in the place. Looked closed from the outside. No breakfast available. Bar was not open and restaurant had no one in it. Missing knob on bedpost. I booked a room with a city view (according to Bookings.com) but the hotel gave me a room overlooking the empty and unkept parking lot). When I questioned the desk staff about it, rather than changing it, they showed me their own paper work from bookings.com that said "standard room". No valet parking. No staff except for front desk! Not sure why morning staff needed to argue. No one was there and the room across from me had the door ajar with the city view. Almost creepy.

Review 20:Charming, vintage look and feel.

Review 21:Did not like dogs being allowed in restaurant decided to leave and eat in another restaurant outside of the hotel. One restaurant should be open for early morning breakfast without dogs

Review 22:Location to where I needed to go

Review 23:most of (the meagre) staff couldn't care less on the whole. no coffee maker/kettle in room, only found out about coffee (in plastic cups) downstairs on second day, limited time in morning. no breakfast. giant cockroach in room, no one could help. room not serviced first day, was interrupted second day despite DND sign on door. only few tv channels working (tiny tv on huge wall). does not live up to surroundings. restaurant good, bar food passable. no security, slightly dodgy area - couple of blocks at least to nearest food/drink place. charge for parking ($15/day) in empty lot next door. no help offered or given with bags on checking in. beautiful surroundings and lobby but not quite sure what this hotel is trying to be.....

Review 24:big comfortable room with nice views. fast elevator.

Review 25:The number of people on staff seem to be very limited. When we requested extra towels, we had to go to the desk and pick them up because there wasn't anyone available to bring them to us.

Review 26:The atmosphere and the cleanliness of the hotel was excellent. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating when they had the things that wee requested.

Review 27:If you're looking for an adventure, The Floridian is it! Whether it's a leaky air conditioner that thumps all night or waking up to no towels in the bathroom, The Floridian is for you. Moldy carpet? Check Bed that feels like concrete? Check Valet that shows up at 8 AM while you wait for your car keys? Check Watered down rum and coke in the bar? You betcha!

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:Minor gripes: 1) The TV was too small given the distance from the bed, and 2) The Wi-Fi required logins too frequently.

Review 30:The building is beautiful and the views of the city were great.

Review 31:Asked front desk while downstairs, "where is the Ice Machine"? They told me i would have to get my bucket, bring it down to the bar tender and they would fill it they take it back to the room.. when returning to the hotel, after the bar was closed I did not have access to get new ice.

Review 32:Bed was nice

Review 33:Restaurant closed before stated time due to lack of business so we were unable to eat there even though it was a main reason for out stay.

Review 34:Beautifully restored historic property

Review 35:Disappointed the downstairs bar was only open on weekend and not during the week. Especially, with the Women's Final Four in town!! Could not get a soda or bite to eat later in the evening.

Review 36:Angelo deserves high praise for responding so quickly to a medical situation. He was most attentive and helpful.

Review 37:no breakfast no coffee in room no micro-wave no refrigerator had to buy coffee during day $2.95 a cup walk 6 blocks to restaurant more than a mile to arena not as advertised

Review 38:Staff was very good

Review 39:The bartender closed the bar on Saturday night at 10:30 despite there being about 25 or more people there. The man on the curb didn't open doors, help with luggage, cabs nor could he give directions.

Review 40:The room was large, comfortable and clean. The location was good, about .7 miles from downtown and close to Franklin St. restaurants and the Riverwalk.

Review 41:Had to go to the bar to get ice cubes from the 15 floor. The front desk does not have change for cash to use for tips. 1 bar of soap in a room with a charge of almost $300.00 a night.

Review 42:Room was unclean (found chewed gum stuck to headboard). Front desk personnel were unprofessional. No breakfast available in hotel at all.

Review 43:Contract Valet parking service.

Review 44:We stayed on the 9th floor and we could hear EVERYTHING outside as though we were sleeping in the middle of the street - trains, sirens, horns, etc. It was all the urban noise that you don't want to hear. I would not stay here again for that reason, but even if it were not for the noise, I would not stay here again because the staff were extremely unfriendly, to the point of being rude. When I checked in, the woman behind the desk had her nose stuck so far up in the air that she did not even bother to make eye contact with me or speak one word except for "sign here for to pay." I can't recall a time when I've felt like less of a human being.

Review 45:Nice furniture, and it was easy to get to. Too bad that it was also loud with rude staff.

Review 46:The beds were very firm(like very), but the room was well designed and spacious. i also wouldn't recommend using the hair products, especially if you have colored hair; the brand strips your hair of its natural oils

Review 47:The staff were very helpful in all areas: checkin, parking, questions/concerns. My travel plans changed and they quickly accommodated that in my price. The wifi works well and the ambience is very vintage and fun.

Review 48:The bed, which was very high (and a little hard). I have arthritis so it was quite painful having to climb so high. We would have also been happier if to have the option of having breakfast and a nice coffee in the hotel before heading out for the day.

Review 49:The hotel was beautiful. Staff were friendly and helpful always. The room was spacious. We liked having a fridge because we liked to drink lots of water. The bar was a great place to spend time, meet with friends, and the bartenders were generally pleasant and helpful. We even had meals there because the dining room restaurant didn't seem accessible.

Review 50:The rooms were missing accoutrements that you would expect for this price: in-room coffeemaker, extra soap, information about local sights, and useful hangers in the closet (which was small). These were minor annoyances but noticeable.

Review 51:This hotel is a very nice old building that has recently been refurbished without obscuring its appealing character. The furniture in the rooms has been chosen to be consistent with the old style of the building. Very comfortable beds, updated bathrooms, and well-kept rooms.

Review 52:The staff and service were terrible. Our reservation via booking.com included free parking. On arrival the valet had no clue about parking options other than valet, claiming it was his first night on the job. The manager said free parking was no longer available and was $15 for valet or self park. She wouldnt budge despite showing her my original booking that clearly stated parking was included. She told me to take it up with booking.com. It went on from there - could we get some more towels. "no, we can't bring them up but you can come down and get some". Could you book us a taxi "we could but we wont tell you when it arrives so its probably easier if you just do it yourself". Is there an ice machine "no". Is there a pool "no". There was no information about amenities in the room and every enquiry we made was met with the answer no. In the end we paid a lot of money for a bed in a pretty hotel. Honestly, we had much better service at a rundown motel in the middle of nowhere the previous night.

Review 53:The hotel was beautiful, clean and the beds comfortable

Review 54:The architectural beauty of the property and also the atmosphere; it felt as though we had been transported back to the Art Deco era. They upgraded us to a penthouse suite , I've never stayed in anything so grand.

Review 55:The mattress is very firm, couldn't sleep normal, turning all night. Show free parking, but there is no Free parking. Was kinda odd how the TV was on a wall not opposite to a beds, but on a side wall. You wouldn't be able to see it if you lay on a bed close to that same wall. There is no restaurants around, nothing in a close by area. Overall think it should be lower in rates.

Review 56:The lobby look pretty, liked the furniture look. The room is pretty big.

Review 57:Would have liked coffee maker and micro wave in the room. More towels and extra blanket.

Review 58:The hotel is very nice. Comfortable rooms. Really liked the view and the train:) Close to convention center and other locations. It was clean.

Review 59:As soon as we opened the door to our room we were assaulted with the awful smell of mold and humidity. The employee at the front desk impolitly admitted there was a broken pipe and relocated us. When I attempted to use the toilet in the second room, the toilet seat came completely off the toilet when I merely tried to open it. At that point we immediately checked out, refusing to stay at a broken down hotel, that additionally has terribly uncomfortable beds.

Review 60:No help remedying the no heat, no blankets given- even when we went to the front desk and asked for 3rd time. On check out they offered $20 off bill ($189) was best they could do. . . UNCLASSY

Review 61:Food was delicious, valet was nice

Review 62:The first problem is that there are several stairs you carry all your luggage up right from the get go. Wouldn't work for anyone who can't lift bags. The noise that can be heard from the thin walls next door is horrible.

Review 63:The hotel was very nice with vintage design and very ornate. It is in a great location and has a bar and valet parking.

Review 64:lack of hangers in closet, no draws to put clothes in, inoperable safe, lack of info for restaurants in area. poor parking and instructions on parking area. more concerned about overpriced restaurant on premises.

Review 65:location and lobby was beautiful

Review 66:I made a reservation for 4 people There was only 1 bath towel in our room at check in. We stayed 2 nights, our room was not serviced, ever. There was an ice bucket but no glasses. No glasses in the bathroom sink area either. Only a partial roll of toilet tissue, no replacement roll. It would have been nice to have an extra blanket for each bed as it was a very cold weekend stay.

Review 67:Rooms were spacious.

Review 68:Darkening curtain was not hooked up to the rod so we couldn't close the curtain all the way. Also found potato chips in the space between the desk and the bureau/console/fridge piece. Obviously had not been vacuumed after the previous guests.

Review 69:Hotel is beautiful -- and located near the Straz Center where we saw a show. Lovely experience to not have to drive after!

Review 70:1. Rather than coming to my room to verify, the night desk called my room, woke me up at 4 AM accusing me of having a loud party and that the police had been called. I was alone. 2. Unable to check in upon arrival because computer was down. Had to wait 20 minutes with the crowd of other guests in the lobby.

Review 71:Well maintained 1927 hotel beautifully refurbished facility. All new furnishings and clean.

Review 72:There were no laundry facilities, and it can be a bit noisy due to the downtown location. When I stayed, there were occasionally police/fire sirens down on the streets. Request a high floor so it doesn't disturb you too much.

Review 73:Room service menu was delicious and quick, all amenities were excellent as well. View from the higher floor is excellent. Requested a late check-out and was given one for 12:30pm, very generous of them. Wi-Fi is speedy and easy to connect to - ask the front desk for a username and password.

Review 74:The huge room with a beautifully carved wooden bed and even a antique framed, full length mirror hung on the wall. The numerous, gorgeous crystal chandeliers everywhere. Just walking into the lobby took my breath away. The staff were friendly and well trained.

Review 75:The Hotel does not have a shuttle. The hotel is at a distance from Convention Center and other facilities. I believe the shuttle would be welcomed by many visitors. No personal coffee pots. No ice. No cable.

Review 76:The food was good and the prices were just right. The staff was hospitable and welcoming. Johnny on the spot but not intrusive. Again just right. Problem with AC but moved immediately to different room. Thank you!

Review 77:Like stepping into another period in time....Absolutely have already recommended and shown lots of pictures to friends..Dawn, the Bartender, Daniel and Robert in dining room, and Wilson and George at Front Desk, all offered us alittle bit of the history of your Stunning Hotel.. Thank you, Can't wait for reason to return... Robert and the Redhead

Review 78:Staff not familiar with other facilities available around. One bottle of water given for the whole stay. Bar excessively priced. Old hotel needs renovation badly

Review 86:Rooms was dirty. Walls nasty. Room smell bad.

Review 87:The old fashioned looks. Near to Football Stadium and Bay.

Review 88:Hard beds and pillows. Shower made terrible noise. Room key issues even after supposedly corrected.

Review 89:Old charm

Review 90:Its just a coool hotel and the location is great.

Review 91:The staff was so very unfriendly and rude. We almost left at check in and didn't stay.

Review 92:Hotel is used predominantly as housing for local university except 2 of the 14 floors, also had cockroaches in room on a number of occasions

Review 93:No vending machines or ice machines. Very uncomfortable mattress.

Review 94:Staff was very helpful.

Review 95:We arrived at 2:00 in the morning and had to carry our own bags up the steps. Finding the front door was a challange.
