Reviews for Cottages On River Road

Review 1:One of our cottages smelled of mold. The breakfast was small but ok.

Review 2:Nice area with the cottages close to the Redwoods park. Cosy fire in the evening and rally nice staff.

Review 3:The staff person who greeted my mother and I looked us up and down and looked upset that we were there. At one point in the night while we had parked our car she asked us if we were staying there and asked us to move our car to move for a person who was supposedly handicap. The person never parked there and the space was empty all night. I would not recommend this place if you like privacy , it felt very intrusive and unwelcoming.

Review 4:The room was clean and the house keepers were very friendly as well as accommodating.

Review 5:I stayed for six days and my room was only cleaned once in that entire time, despite my talking to the desk staff each day about the problem.

Review 6:Beautiful grounds. Excellent continental breakfast of very high quality. Friendly front desk staff. Cozy cottage.

Review 7:Parking far from room and awkward gate. Slammed on my son's finger.

Review 8:For a continental style breakfast, the quality was good. 2 separate bedrooms, cabin rather than just a hotel room.

Review 9:- Mattresses were a little too soft - Heater was hard to set up so it was either way too hot or way too cold

Review 10:Very nice cozy hotel for a very romantic set up

Review 11:Absolutely nothing

Review 12:How romantic everything was How the hotel looked even better than the pictures Since we had our own little cottage we werent concerned with noise The staff even considered our special requests And the big fat lion cat was the best Ouuu breakfast was delicious!

Review 13:No comfort features in the room. Small and lacked light in the only closet where you could put your suitcase. Bare bones bathroom. Not even a hook on the back of the door in it. When you turned on the bathroom light it turned on the noisy fan automatically and was so annoying especially in the middle of the night. Heat was just as noisy and inadequate. We would not stay here again.

Review 14:The beds are placed against a common wall with the adjoining unit so the sound is "intensified" and the nightly outdoor fire is right opposite units 2 and 3 - very noisy until 10:PM.The traffic noise is not a concern after 9:PM or so.

Review 15:All of the staff. Including Frank!

Review 16:The bed was really noisy in Cabin #1. Any movement and it sounded like we were sleeping on bamboo. Maybe we were. It wasn't uncomfortable but just really noisy.

Review 17:Loved the outdoor space, the fireplace & s'mores, the cleanliness of the outdoor and indoor spaces. The breakfast was great! Super friendly reception. Appreciated the tour of the space when we arrived to get oriented.

Review 18:Loved the little touches, keurig with tea and coffee, S'mores with a fire in the evening and wonderful selection at breakfast time. The grounds were peaceful and cottages darling.

Review 19:The cottage has two roons with a common wall so there's only a bit of sound isolation. The floors were a little bouncy too.

Review 20:Cozy room with good range of amenities and a very good bed. Friendly staff.

Review 21:Nothing...I hated to leave!

Review 22:I loved everything at The Cottages. My bed was fresh and comfortable with a high quality mattress. The grounds were beautiful with lovely gardens. Redwood trees surrounded the cottages. I enjoyed the fire pit and company of the guest from all over the world in the evening.

Review 23:Good experience but the buildings are really old and our only negative would be that the floors are "wonky" making me a bit dizzy.

Review 24:The room was delightful and so was the staff, and we loved the fire pit and the smore's ingredients put out for the guests along with precut firewood.

Review 25:The only complaint I had was that the breakfast didn't have a gluten free option that I was aware of. But it looked delicious.

Review 26:Beautiful scenery! Wonderful people, very tranquil weekend get away

Review 27:Next to the road, so sometimes I could hear trucks going by while I was trying to sleep.

Review 28:Cute little place. Convenient that there are 2 rooms, so it is better for a family with older children instead of staying at a hotel. Typical breakfast included. We didn't go to it, but it's nice that they have S'mores in the evening.

Review 29:My stay was too short!

Review 30:Loved the location, fire pit with "S'mores", and the cottage decor. Very comfortable! Wish I could have stayed longer! Staff very friendly.

Review 31:this was the cutest, cleanest place we stayed on our 3 week trip. The rooms were spotless, the beds and pillows were very comfortable, and the entire staff was friendly and courteous. Breakfast was great !

Review 32:Gets a bit loud in the morning due to the location next to the main street. If your bed is on the other side there is no problem at all (and there are earplugs ready next to your bed!)

Review 33:Very cozy complex, neat houses. Very clean, excellent beds and bathrooms. Staff is not overly friendly, but ok!

Review 34:Nothing.

Review 35:The cottages are a find. A perfect wine country location and great outdoor spaces on porches and in a common area with fire pit. And they do s'mores in the evening.

Review 36:Pool heated but closes too soon. Not walking distance to many stores or restruants especially at night. Spiders can get inside the room. We had 2 big river bush spiders.

Review 37:Cottage room and bathroom were clean cozy and stocked. Breakfast snacks, tea and coffee.

Review 38:The cottage was like a small two bdrm apartment with up to date amenities and the best bed I've ever slept on. It was in a central location and had an awesome cat. The breakfast was very nice as well.

Review 39:one problem is that when trucks pass on the highway, you can feel the cabin rattle... at least in the cabins close to the road.

Review 40:very pretty room, friendly staff, good breakfast.

Review 41:The hotel is on the main road so it was quite noisy with car and truck traffic. They do provide ear plugs.

Review 42:They do an excellent job of creating a cozy environment by providing a an abundant continental breakfast which had home made signs describing the breakfast items. At night they lit an outside fire and provided all the fixings for s'mores. It was a great way to meet people.

Review 43:We mentioned when booking that it is our anniversary when we arrived we were greeted with a complementary bottle of wine and they made some upgrades to our stay. They went above and beyond! Amazing location, staff were superb, our stay was the best vacations my husband and I have ever had. We spent most of our trip at the cottages with the camp fires at night, the garden to relax in during the day, the porch to have coffee and snacks on, it was nice to relax. Great getaway!

Review 44:We were in an end unit next to a fenced off area that was used as an overflow area for outdoor supplies. Perhaps the area could be camouflaged.

Review 45:Beautiful outdoor environment

Review 46:This place is just amazing. We loved the atmosphere, the cleanliness, the friendly staff, the daily campfire with s'mores, the breakfast. There is absolutely *nothing* we didn't like in these cottages!!

Review 47:Only drawback was the room cans provided were not powerful enough. It hit a 100 deg.the day we arrived. The room windows were not big enough to let much of the cool night air in.

Review 48:Loved the charming setting, porches and patio made it feel very quaint. The staff were all so gracious. We were escorted to our cottage room and given a brief info tour around the property. LOVED IT.

Review 49:The only downside was the noise of the road, and we realize that that is out of your control.

Review 50:This was a marvelous place to stay. As you can see by our ratings, we were very satisfied with everything. The gardens were lovely, cottages were beautiful, service was excellent. The nightly campfire with s'mores was a nice touch for families.

Review 51:The fact that we only booked one night, we could have happily stayed a week or longer.

Review 52:Everything! Staff were smiley and friendly, salt-water pool was amazing after a day hiking in Armstrong Woods, lovely community feel to the place, especially on the evening when staff light the fire pit and bring out smores for all! Fluffy towels and nice toiletries, comfy bed and delicious breakfast, we would go back in a heartbeat.

Review 53:Room had a slight "pet" smell...but this IS a pet friendly hotel.

Review 54:Loved the location, the gardens, saline pool, the bonfire and free smores, wi fi and delightful breakfast AND Frank the greeter cat!! Relaxing, quiet and great for a getaway.

Review 55:Our cabin was on the highway side so the traffic noise was an issue. We each put on the set of ear plugs (provided) and things were fine.

Review 56:The comfort of the stand alone cabin was very nice.It was nice to come back from a dinner out on the town and sit around the campfire and talk with other guest.

Review 57:The parking.

Review 58:everything; the beautiful gardens, the friendliness towards dogs, the cozy room and oh so comfortable bed. The homemade pastries for breakfast were quite yummy.

Review 59:It is on a very noisy road. If you are a light sleeper, this could be an issue. they provide ear plugs, but I would advise bring your own, good ones.

Review 60:Just a delight! The thoughtful staff, the atmosphere, the housekeeping thoroughness. There was something almost old fashioned about it--in a good way, with all the nice modern touches you could want.

Review 61:Little costly for pet charges compared to how reasonable our room charge was.

Review 62:Very friendly staff, like the nightly sitting at the fire pit making smores. Like the fact we were able to bring our small dog.

Review 63:The amount paid for the acomidations provided did not match. For the first night and day we were there we were sure we had been placed in the wrong room. Fyi--"deluxe king suite" = a standard room with a king bed (+ there's a bag of costco Kirkland brand popcorn by the microwave). Smh!

Review 64:The landscaping is lush and beautiful and atracts many butterflies, birds, and dragonflies! :)

Review 65:Floor in the kitchen and bath were somewhat slanting. Prefer an earlier start time for breakfast.

Review 66:Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Out of the ordinary choice for lodging, very quiet and secluded.

Review 67:The staff is incredible and goes out of their way to be kind and helpful! Great breakfast, pool and firepit with s'mores! Don't let being close to the main road deter you as inside is a sweet oasis.

Review 68:On a very busy road. Lots of road noise.regisered with pets and was given a bad time at check in because of them. The kitchen area was very small and the refrigerator door open so that it faced the wall which made it difficult to use.our guests had to walk thru our bedroom to use the bathroom which wasn't clear in the picture of the cottage. I was quoted different prices for the stay and charged the higher price, be very careful when booking a stay here and finally was told we would be charged $80 extra if we didn't return our room key.........

Review 69:Not much.

Review 70:I just loved the overall feel of the place! The staff were very nice and personable! I would love to visit this place again! Such a wonderful experience!

Review 71:Our couch wasn't the most comfortable for lounging. Wish the pool was heated. No hotel phones in room and cell phone reception not great.

Review 72:The small, gated layout of the property was perfect for my 2 and 5 year old. They had space to run around in that I felt perfectly safe with. Good choices for a continental breakfast. Loved the campfire and s'mores supplies that was provided every night. Great value!

Review 73:No A/C but it cooled off nicely at night.

Review 74:We had a wonderful stay! The staff was friendly, the room was comfortable and we loved the breakfast and s'mores wagon by the fire each night. We will be back!

Review 75:Non smoking rooms only. However, they were very accommodating and found ways to make both smokers and non-smokers happy. :)

Review 76:The staff was amazingly friendly! One would never guess the beautiful setting waiting for them once inside.

Review 77:Our cottage was right on the main road, lots of traffic, it was very loud, even with all the windows shut. No air conditioning. Cottage was very small. We asked to be moved to another cabin d/t the noise, we were told to use the ear plugs provided. They did not have another cottage available. The male host was very defensive & argumentative about the noise. We just wanted a good night sleep on our vacation.

Review 78:The campfire smores were fun. It was cute & clean.

Review 79:The staff at these cottages is fantastic. They are friendly, helpful and they work hard to make sure everyone has a great experience. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped. I love having a refrigerator and a a little kitchen area.

Review 80:The fan and the light come on at the same time in the bathroom. It would be nice if they were separate for times when one person uses the bathroom at night because the fan is loud. Also we could feel the footsteps of the people in the room next to us.

Review 81:The gardens are very nice and I liked the overall look of the room. There are lots of nice touches here and there. A good place for families.

Review 82:We were upgraded to a king room with a full kitchen and out door shower, which was amazing! Property was lovely, pool was great, breakfast was delicious, room was cozy and bed was amazing!

Review 83:The staff was friendly with great suggestions for things to do and placed to eat. The rooms were clean. The place was like a resort beautifully and peacefully landscaped. Would be a perfect place for a family reunion or wedding.

Review 84:Our family stayed here which included two teenage daughters and our seven year old son. We all enjoyed the property and amenities especially the landscaping one the property. Beautiful and relaxing!

Review 85:We booked two rooms. A full cottage and then a single king. Both rooms were great. It's a great value, will definitely be back. The rooms were comfortable and everyone enjoyed the snores and continental breakfast.

Review 86:Pet area is way too small and was never stocked with bags for picking up after your dog. Bedroom lacked a ceiling fan and the room became hot and stuffy even though it was cool outside. Bathroom fan did nothing, except make noise. Television was dated and the screen resolution was poor and faded.

Review 87:All of the staff members were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Our dog was thrilled with her stay and loved her personalized treat box.

Review 88:River road is a busy road and it was a little hard to walk anywhere with my kids because you have to walk on the shoulder. However, we stayed in a River road cottage and there was very little road noise to be heard inside the cottage.

Review 89:Lovely cottages, exceptionally nice and helpful staff, free S'mores every night by the fire pit, nice landscaping. There is a fun mix of young and old and international people staying here making it very inviting and for good conversation by the fire and at breakfast time.

Review 90:Some road noise mainly early morning for the cottages on the road side but much quieter than many places I have stayed. No noise from other guests as each bungalow is detached.

Review 91:Friendly staff and guests, lovely setting, excellent breakfast. Small but clean and well equipped rooms.

Review 92:The cottages were on a perfect spot, comfortable, a great getaway with a friendly staff and diverse clientele. The fire pit s'mores at night are a treat and they are pet friendly'.

Review 93:Close to Bodega Bay and wine country.Loved the atmosphere and friendly fire ring and happy laughter with strangers! The bed was comfortable and anything I needed was there! Great organic shampoos and healthy breakfast.

Review 94:My only complaint was that there wasn't enough light in the bathroom - no light over the sink.

Review 95:These cabins were in a beautiful part of the Russian River area - well located for river access, winery access and for great restaurants. The room was very clean and comfortable, breakfast was good, and we slept well both nights. Very quiet. Thanks.

Review 96:Although large trees are right behind them up the hill, the cottages are located right on main road that locals use as their freeway. Units have double pained windows...so that helps. Units are connected to each other. So... if you are expecting a woodsy quiet retreat, you would be disappointed. Some areas of landscaping walkway have bricks that are loose and so a bit risky carrying in luggage. Breakfast is over at 10 am...so don't sleep in!

Review 97:The cottages are cute and upgraded, nestled around a central grass area with fire pit and swimming pool. Staff was very helpful. Free dvd's. Free smores around the fire pit. Provides dogs with own towel and welcome kit. Separate fenced-in little area for dogs to do their business. Checkout is noon.

Review 98:Very comfortable 2 BR plus sitting room cottage with unexpected extras. Lovely plants and flowers throughout grounds. Fire pit with free s'mores in the evening.

Review 99:the only negative was if you were on the side of the complex next to the road there was some rogue Norris. And it is not as close as I thought. You could walk but it is so?

Review 100:great atmosphere with cabins surrounding a central gathering area and pool. rooms were small but nice with a small kitchen sink microwave and bathrooms had a hair dryer.

Review 101:Great location, only 5 minutes away from the awesome redwood forest. The room was cozy and comfortable. A video library was available, along with the loan of a DVD player.

Review 102:Nothing - pure perfection :)

Review 103:This place is extraordinary!! From the WONDERFULLY helpful (and hilarious) staff, to the BEAUTIFULLY decorated individual cottages with such thoughtful little touches, to the DELICIOUS breakfast, to the AMAZING s'mores around the campfire at night... This place was a haven after a long day wine tasting and sightseeing in the gorgeous surrounding area. We've been on the road for over 6 months and we very much lucked out with this place as our final stop before going back to the big city life :D Can't be beat!! We very much hope to return one day soon...

Review 104:the central location for touring wineries and the coast. close to interesting communities like Sebastopol, Petaluma and others. the oyster bar in Guerneville was delicious.

Review 105:If you are sensitive about noise - ask for cabin that is not directly on the other side of the road. Didn't bother me but could bother some people. There are cabins further away from the road.

Review 106:Clean, welcoming and helpful staff. Breakfast was an added bonus. Made a campfire for guests outside. Showers great - lots of water pressure. Highly recommend if you want good value and hospitality.

Review 107:Warm welcome from the owner, beautiful cottages, very nicely decorated with nice touches like wine glasses and corkscrew. Smores round the fire with other guests was lovely. Breakfast was the best we've had in the USA and all in all a great stay.

Review 108:Our room # 8 it was shaking every time the people next room ( # 9 ) where walking in the room it was not plasent to feel that.

Review 109:Everything, except.... ( see didn't like below )

Review 110:Located just off the highway there was a lot of traffic noise. The resident mascot Frank the cat had ear mites - glad I didn't have a pet with me. Bummer, there was not a lot to do in town - it was off season!!

Review 111:Liked the fire pit and s'mores

Review 112:The staff was delightfully friendly & helpful, and the accommodations were beautiful. We loved meeting other vacationers at the nightly s'more campfires outside in the gorgeous courtyard and exchanging tips on which of the surrounding wineries we should visit and which to skip. A beautiful redwood forest and the beach were nice nearby excursions as well. Our bed was so comfortable it put my own to shame, and it was great waking up to free on-site breakfast every morning. I can't recommend this place highly enough! It's easily the best place I've stayed on vacation to date.

Review 113:This a little different from the hotels. Chalets around a pretty garden.Welcoming hosts.Shame it was too cold for us wimpy oldies to join in campfire. Good jolly atmosphere.

Review 114:Road is a bit noisy and the cottages are right there. The mattress was not very comfortable. WIFI was sketchy.

Review 115:Loved the lay-out and the free breakfast as well as the configuration of the cottage space. Would definitely stay there again.

Review 116:We could only stay one night due to our premade plans.

Review 117:Wonderful location off river rd with the redwoods behind the cottages. You hardly notice the road duw to the smart arrangement of cottages and privacy wall. Fire pit common area with great atmosphere, plus a giant smores kit. Room was big with a big bathroom. Modern and clean, kitchenette area was perfect too. Big flat screen tv.less than 10 minites from the Korbel Champagne place, and you can find dozens of others if you go just south or east. Good blend of breakfast options along with juice and melon Water made fresh. Animal friendly- friendly kitty named Frank lives there, and they're pet friendly. Wonderful staff!! Made us feel right at home. Gave good winery and dinner recommendations. Held our bags for us too while we went wine tasting and had our bags in our two cottages when we returned. Can't say enough good things about this place.

Review 118:When I checked in I was put in a duplex and could hear everything the couple next store was doing. The staff moved me to a single unit and wanted me to pay more at that point. If you stay be sure to ask for a free standing unit!

Review 119:The decor in the rooms is adorable. Some of the things like heaters and fans are outdated.

Review 120:We liked everything. Great price, quaint, clean cottages with all the little special touches, staff is willing to serve and anticipate every need. The campfire experience was awesome. Met some really interesting people. shared our birthday cake, and couldn't have had a better time.

Review 121:If I had to find something it would be that we did not have enough hot water but it's not like we showered with cold water either.

Review 122:Very well run hotel, they made us feel at home. The fire pit and s'mores are a hit! Comfy bed, nice cottage, spotless clean, you can tell it has been recently renovated. The Dream Jar with sleeping aids like ear plugs and masks was a nice touch! Frankie the Cat is adorable!

Review 123:This is the second time I have stayed there and the noisiness of our cottage was unpleasant. It is very close to the road and, although they said it would quiet down at night, that didn't happen. I would recommend booking a cottage toward the back of the property, away from the road. Lovely place, but the noise is a drawback. Perhaps they'll put in new windows in the cottages along the street at some point...

Review 124:The cottages are clean and lovely. The staff is very friendly and the evening ritual of s'mores around a fire is wonderful.

Review 125:It was all good, no bad experiences.

Review 126:We like it all: pet's welcome package, cleanliness, front desk staff, s'.mores, selection of breakfast items, dog run and garden. It

Review 127:We loved everything about the cottages, from the late night fire put gathering to the beautiful room and the wonderful hospitality. We will defiantly return. Thank You.
