Reviews for Imperial Inn Oakland

Review 1:Room was not ready for occupancy. No heat no light in bathroom. Linen was horribly. Fresh blood stains! Not chainged!!!

Review 2:Staff tried to be accommodating

Review 3:The rooms were old and not clean, it was expensive in comparison to other places we have stayed, not a safe neighbourhood at all, would not go back to this area with my children ever.

Review 4:The bed was comfortable

Review 5:The fact that it has been 30°or below temp & the heater didn't work so I was cold all night on top of that the power outlet for the TV & cable box went out so I had to unplug refrigerator & microwave just to be able to watch TV plus I'm a smoker & was told I couldn't smoke in the room even tho I tried to get a smoking room which made me even colder because I had to stand outside to smoke and I was told when I decided I wanted to leave that there was no refund either will never ever go back there again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review 6:Room was not prepared fully. Some lights not working, heat not working, TV not working. Window left open on arrival although it was cold outside.

Review 7:Responsive staff resolved most problems on request

Review 8:There was a lot of noise from outside of the room, was not sure my car was safe in the hotel parking lot. The price seemed a little high for what it was.

Review 9:Bed was comfortable and room was quite clean. Location is close to major highways.

Review 10:Lighting was fluorescent.

Review 11:The staff were helpfull and kind. They gave us a late checkout with no questions asked and didn't keep bothering us. It was clean and everything worked.

Review 12:We went to see someone in the hospital, which is a short walk from the hotel. The main room is clean and comfortable and spacious, with a microwave and mini-fridge. The lighting is pretty good and the wireless worked well. I don't care for the bathroom lights that go on automatically, as I don't always want them going on at night. The tub is kind of gray, so I wouldn't want to sit in it.

Review 13:At check-in manager did not have two bed room that I originally book, it was a slight inconvenience, and when I asked about refunding the difference, he told me to just wait until the next day.

Review 14:Nice area, close to transportation, nice upgrades

Review 15:small bathroom stale show pillows old stained cloth furniture broken fridge

Review 16:the huge bed the large room the location the staff and facilities

Review 17:Knob on heater broken. Found someone's sock left behind.

Review 18:Staff very friendly and helpful. Bed very comfortable. Lots of hot water for shower.

Review 19:The room could of been bigger with the amount of stuff inside it. The future didn't match. The bathroom consisted of a toilet and bath/shower, with the sink basically in the main room so it wasn't private. If you have heavy luggage then make sure that you get a floor on the ground level as there is no elevator.

Review 20:When I lived in Oakland, I never really thought much of the place when I would go by it, or eat at the Carl's Jr next door, and wasn't even going to book a room when it showed up the list, but am glad that I chose to book it. The staff was kind and wonderful, the wifi was good, the bed was more comfortable than many I have slept in at higher end hotels, and the closeness of BART and other public transit was wonderful. I will surely be staying there when I am in Oakland for a few days.

Review 21:My door wouldn't close all the way and lock because there was a hole where the lock was and I didn't get the Internet and the window curtains would not push it all the way for privacy

Review 22:I've stayed at this hotel several times in the past and one thing on booking it's hard to get a loan from smoking available. Also the past times that I stay in the fused year this past year the room then I got in this last time was a hole in the door with a lock should have been in there was a draft coming in the door I couldn't close the curtains are the way it was not feeling safe for me at all I would not be standing there again!.

Review 23:Clean and tidy rooms. affordable pricing, not too far from down town SFO and travel times to DTSF are much lesser compared to other nearby places of down town.

Review 24:I think there was bed bugs because when I woke up I had a lot of red itchy bumps on my body, my partner did not have any but I still think it was from the bed.

Review 25:location

Review 26:Staff is not much flexible about payment options (we wanted to pay with different card than I have on Booking profile).

Review 27:It is near subway station (7 minutes) Indian style exterior Big comfortable bed

Review 28:The staff was really rude blaming things on me didn't accept any of his mistakes not presentable with his clothes . Really small bathroom , and sheets where a bit dirty couldn't sleep with them , wouldn't come back at all if this was the last place to book I rather sleep in my car ! They over charge for the service that they provide , and there was a man yelling at some lady outside of my room it's really not worth coming here. The pictures shown on the website make it look like a nice decent place but it's nothing like that.

Review 29:The bathroom, especially, was aged and there was mold on the shower curtain.

Review 30:Location was good for what we wanted. We were able to explore a bit of Oakland by car and taxi easily.

Review 31:Bathroom was old. Few holes in the towels and bed sheets. Room smelled slightly smokey. Lots of police sirens on the main road all night.

Review 32:Overall we were happy with our one-night stay. Room was pretty clean. Comfortable bed. New vanity area. Fresh paint around the complex. Free parking and wifi. Staff was friendly and gave recommendations of local restaurants. For the price, we were satisfied.

Review 33:The area did not feel really safe after dark. The area is up and coming and the neighborhood will probably be completely overrun by hipsters in a couple of years but for now i didn't feel really comfortable walking around alone at night (i was traveling alone).

Review 34:The hotel was clean and comfortable. The TV was good with good channels. Wifi was free but not super strong. The location was good in terms of proximity to BART and ease of getting To the city.

Review 35:I have never experienced "this" in 30+ years of traveling in the US. My girlfriend and I selected a room with two queen beds because another friend was supposed to meet us the second night. The front desk called my room at 830 AM on Saturday morning, waking us up from our coveted saturday morning "sleep-in". The woman at the desk wanted to switch our room. Why? Because she said we were two people and didnt NEED two beds! I was initially speechless but quickly became upset at theier breach of our privacy. Not only did we NOT ask for a different room, we had told them of the third person's arrival and wrote his name down on the registration when we checked in. I went to the front desk to complain and was literally LAUGHED at by whomever was supposedly the manager. The family running this motel obviously spies on its guests and could care less if they violate people's privacy. Again in many many years of renting motel rooms nothing like this has ever happened to me anywhere else. In addition, the room was not vacuumed. we found someones lighter and marijuana stems on the floor. The towels and face cloths were not all clean. several had yellow stains. I am still shaking my head at how badly run this motel is. I would not recommend this place to an enemy. The family who runs this place does not deserve anyone's hard earned money.

Review 36:Nothing.

Review 37:Very poor cleanliness. Shower stopper did not work towels were ripped sheets were dirty and when I politely addressed these issue the front desk lady was very rude when we switched to another room

Review 38:That it was close to where we needed to go

Review 39:Asked for extra towels in reservation, received only one per person.

Review 40:The motel was a few blocks away from the train station and walking distance from restaurants. Only a 30 minute drive or train ride to San Francisco. Aside from some construction very quiet.

Review 41:It's an old hotel. Some of the towels had holes in them and the room smelled a bit like cigarettes, which went away after opening the window and turning on the AC. The elevator didn't work so we had to carry our luggage up 3 floors! The front desk seemed to be a bit disorganized, we got a call the day before our checkout telling us we needed to checkout, turns out they had written down the wrong day, in the end they apologized.

Review 42:The staff was attentive, when the blow dryer in the room blew out and started smoking the manager brought me a replacement within a few minutes. Hotel is located really close to BART which made getting transportation really easy. Free wifi, which is great, the hotel we stayed at previously was in the heart of downtown Oakland and charged $10 for 24 hours of wifi. There was a nice big screen tv and the ac/heater in the room worked very well.

Review 43:Was unsafe feeling inside of the room. I was concerned and did not sleep all night. An incident happened on my way from the hotel to BART for a meeting in downtown Oakland. I would not recommend staying here.

Review 44:Seemed like it would be fine and a good location. Getting to the hotel during the daytime from BART was easy and hassle-free.

Review 45:I rented your motel but you did not provide breakfast for the customers. I think you are stingy motel owner. You made a lot of noise such as talked so loud that disturbed my sleep and I'm not happy about it. I stayed in a room next to your office.

Review 46:Dirty looking tub, stained shower curtain, tiny bathroom, motion sensor lights that go on when we don't want them on, shower not hot enough.

Review 47:Comfy bed, spacious main room, nice patio. Good parking for Oakland. Room has fridge and microwave.

Review 48:Not attractive. Towels rough & only one large enough for drying off after shower.

Review 49:Person at desk was very accommodating. Bed was OK. Adequate amenities but nothing special. We booked a king room, ended up with one queen. Small refrigerator.

Review 50:Having to pay .25 cents for ice out of a machine when I paid $100 for my room. Feel $100 was just more than necessary for location and motel quality. No breakfast of any kind provided.

Review 51:I arrived hours early and was allowed to have my room well before 3pm check-in. Really enjoyed the down alternative quilt on my king size bed.

Review 52:The room was dirty. The shower had a grubby tray. The water poured out in the morning a brown colour. The the walls had dirty finger marks all around. Then when the house keeper came in, I saw her outside spraying some sort of frebreeze on the towels and linen. Does thay mean they are just washing with water or something?

Review 53:The bart system was very near so easy to cross into central San Francisco. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Strong wifi.

Review 54:The items checked in this survey speak volumes. The telephone not operable. Paid for ice. Cabs called for service didn't show up, had to flag down passing cab.

Review 55:It was clean.

Review 56:The room seemed clean overall but the pillowcases, blankets and sheets were stained. There were a couple of body hairs under the blanket on the bed. It definitely looked and smelled like the bedding had not been washed for a while. The bathroom was very small and part of the door frame was missing.

Review 57:The location was great and the neighborhood seemed reasonably nice. Much better price than a comparable motel in SF.

Review 58:The price should be less than what it is.we've stayed at 4 star hotels for that amount of money.

Review 59:It's in a great location. We were able to walk down the street and eat at different restaurants.Staff was really nice and helpful. We both loved the colors of the room. Very vibrant colors.

Review 60:A basic motel with good room facilities. We would not recommend Oakland other than a handy location to park the car and catch the local train into San Francisco. No local restaurants other than burger bars, eat in San Francisco

Review 61:The staff and owner were very helpful. This hotel is very convenient to the BART. We found it very comfortable. The Korean Restaurant across the road is also very good.

Review 62:Very very dirty ... not safe location quests are not allowed to use the elevator, which was very strange Another very strange thing that the housekeeper shouted on me when I told her to change the towel for me and give me a cleaner one honestly many things happened to me that never happened to me in any other hotel.

Review 63:It was one of the cheapest hotel in that region.

Review 64:As Seniors travelling with luggage we appreciated the ground floor room which was large and had a table and easy chairs. Clean and well equipped. Nice to sit in courtyard. East BART trip into SF. Simple breakfast was unexpected and adequate. Sussie in Office efficient and helpful.

Review 65:Although it looks like a typical motel from the outside, it was the room itself which I liked very much. Nice furniture and comfortable bed. Definitely a good choice to be kept in mind in case of future journeys to the San Francisco area.

Review 66:Room was clean and comfortable, the accommodation is close to public transportation and it takes about half an hour or less to the center of San Francisco. Owner of the hotel was kind enough to keep our things the last day of our visit after check out so we can explore city more without carrying big bags with us. Overall everything was A+.

Review 67:One day during our stay the staff did not leave any towels. I called the front desk, and the young man only bright one set of towels. I didn't notice until the next morning. So, we were still short towels. I didn't complain.

Review 68:Very clean, nice place to stay for the rate. Close to freeway. For the most part we were very pleased with our stay.

Review 69:Would have been ever so much better with a slightly large offering of soap; the dab that was nicely wrapped was really inadequate at least for showering.

Review 70:It has almost all a traveler who is weary could desire. Love the decor. Bed was King Size, but seemed even larger. Everything was functional.

Review 71:staff was very helpful and friendly.. in particular I arrived several hours before normal check-in, Manager on-duty made sure a room was ready quickly, and gave me the room key immediately.. nice touch

Review 72:Room was a bit dingy, coffee from the machine is not good. I also paid apeak price for my stay, which was beyond the price I'd call worththe money.I guess the worst part of my stay would have to be the cleaning staff. They make such a ruckus in the morning, that the one day I had to stay back and work in my room, I got a headache. The Spanish cleaning lady keeps walking up and down yelling pretty much until noon. When my turn finally came, it wasn't a gentle knock to ask for housekeeping. She raps on the door, and when I told her cleaning wouldn't be required today, she tells me off for not putting a don't disturb sign on the door.

Review 73:This is a budget stay, so like many other reviews here, you get what youpay for. All basic amenities, including a fridge and microwave. Tv andwifi are pretty good too. The location is great if you have a car, otherwise very few restaurants within walking distance. Of course,I'm a vegetarian, so options are harder to find, but I struck goldat Beauty's bagel shop which is less than a 5 min walk from here. The staff at the reception are very polite and helpful.

Review 74:The area of the hotel, the service, the room was not clean, it was impossible to sleep because every time you heard a noise... I didn't do a shower because the shower was not clean.

Review 75:The price

Review 76:The room smelled musty. The elevator didnt work so i had to carry my luggage up the stairs (the hotel has 3 floors).

Review 77:it was located within a couple of blocks from the BART station

Review 78:Bed was a little uncomfortable, not a very big fan of decor, carpet seem a little dirty.

Review 79:Pros. It was a decent place to stay, staff was nice, it seems it's family owned price for night was ok. the area is close To freeway it was a 20 min ride into San Francisco.

Review 80:Was concerned about safety since the front desk clerk was behind bullet proof barier

Review 81:One of the few semi affordable options during our 1 day stay in the bay area

Review 82:Avoid walking a couple blocks east.

Review 83:We had an emergency and left one night early. They did not charge usfor that night. Very nice! There are lot of eateries around and Berkelyis just a few minutes down the street. 20 minutes to Downtown San Franwith the bart.

Review 84:Missing rotary knob at AC unit, still able to rotate the pin. Didn't need it during the night any-case.

Review 85:Very nice hotel. Clean, free WiFi, quality feather comforters, very enjoyable interior court with tables and seats around water fountain. Nice location, quiet.

Review 86:The staff was unhelpful when faced with problems. Refused to speak to me over the phone when having problem with checking in. My credit card was declined because it was under the wrong type and they refused to run it again. The hotel looks nothing like the pictures!

Review 87:Altough the inn is just 11 miles from San Francisco, we needed 20 minutes on Sunday, 2 hours on Monday and 1 hour the other weekdays. You pay 4usd for crossing Bay-bridge,plus the parking Costa adott 30-40 USD per day. Breakfast choice was apple, banana, cookies and orange juice.

Review 88:The building is a bit run-down, but the room was nice and clean.

Review 89:We didn't feel comfortable about using the wifi and the gentleman at the front desk wasn't as helpful as we would've liked. Luckily there was minimal contact with him.

Review 90:The hotel was in a convenient location. The room was always tidy when we got back. Although we didn't stay in the room the entire time, it was a decent experience overall.

Review 91:The telephone was temporarily out of order. Maintenance personnel did not leave soap for showering, etc. but I had brought my own so was not inconvenienced.

Review 92:The front desk person present at the time I checked in on a Tuesday evening was very helpful. The decor was different, slightly exotic, and I liked it.

Review 93:I woke up itching all over after a two night stay and had ad least 10 bites on me I was thinking it may have been mosquitoes biting me then realized I didn't do anything but sleep went to the doctors I was told I was biting by bed bugs and I'm having a serious reaction and I need antibiotics!!!

Review 94:I had no problems with staff

Review 95:Miniature toilet! Extremely dangerous trying to get on and off of because it was so low. I have noticed that everywhere we go lately has these kiddie toilets. For a partially crippled senior citizen they are deadly! I don't normally need handicapped facilities (fortunately) but maybe they have normal height toilets?

Review 96:Room was much larger than I expected, and was very comfortable, there were two not one easy chairs for us to sit and read at. I was surprised that the in-room coffee was so good, in the past I have used the same type of pot at other inns and the coffee was atrocious!

Review 97:Overall it was fine for one night. The furnishings are old and shabby. Our nonsmoking room smelled like smoke.

Review 98:The staff was very friendly. Gave us a late check out and helped get us a cab when our Uber did not show up.

Review 99:The location is convenient for BART travellers, but the area is really shabby; the reception is very old and bit very clean so my first impression was quite poor (but improved when I saw the room)

Review 100:Comfortable bed, relatively clean, ok shower facilities, microwave and fridge in the room, free wifi of a decent speed, free parking, Carls Junior outside, not noisy

Review 101:Nothing

Review 102:In Oakland, close to a Bart station. This is a very good alternative, if you want to go to San Francisco, but want a good motel for a reasonable price. Thanks to renovations around the Bart station, you feel safe on your way to the motel (what isn't always the fact in San Francisco). Normally there is no breakfast, but they provide fruit and a little snack in the morning. Cosy courtyard

Review 103:Horrible service. They charged my card before I got there, and they were knocking on our door 15 mins before check-out time. The toilet was stained and the room seemed poorly cleaned.

Review 104:I liked that it's so close to bart.

Review 105:There is nothing I didn't like about the hotel. However, the area is not really nice.

Review 106:The room is big and well equiped and furnished. There is a fridge, a microwave , coffee machine and coffee is provided. WiFi is perfect. Location is good, close to the Bart station. Takes 15 min to get to san Francisco. Orange juice, fruit and a bakery are served for breakfast in the reception office.

Review 107:We booked 2 weeks out and where promised a smoke-free room, when we arrived we got a smoking room. The staff lied and said someone must have just smoked in it, but there where cigarette burns on furniture, the floors, counters and bedspread. To top it off, I got bed bugs! The place is horribly run down, in a ghetto neighborhood, and very dirty. I would sent my enemy to sleep here.

Review 108:Nothing!! Horrible place!

Review 109:Customer service was very bad and there was only one way in and one way out of the entire place. Made me feel very trapped.

Review 110:The rooms were bigger than expected. Quiet and overall ok.

Review 111:Neighborhood does not look so good. Breakfast provided in front desk. not good - surely can do better.

Review 112:OK motel for late night arrival. Rooms are are large and surprising (for good).

Review 113:They ask all guest to write "good things" for them on Booking.com so the score attract guest. The room is poor and services are terrible. I got in this Inn because of all the unrealistic comments online, end up in a very bad neighborhood. Make sure to Get your ID back after the checking process, they dont return it and don't ever contact their guest about it. They have collected a stack of IDs at the front desk without returning them! I had to call them several times to get mine ID back the next day! Are you serious?

Review 114:No elevator, only one stair to go up. Gave me more excercise after touring the San Fransico.

Review 115:Old fashion furniture is not really my thing. Did not know this when booking. Room was a bit 'smelly' when entering for the first time. People must have been using the microwave extensively! Got better after having the window open for a long time.

Review 116:Very friendly staff. Mrs. Susi was outstanding in caring about her customers. Good overall value for a motel of that kind incl. the price.

Review 117:Room was very smelly and dirty. Mirror above the sink was all stained, carpet looked dirty never hoovered in yhe corners and behind the lockers. The bed valances looked dirty and old.

Review 118:Great staff especially Susie and they let us know about free shuttle bus to Emeryville Amtrak station and nearby cinema shopping centre that we used a lot on our layover. Very convenient and good value for our 24 hour layover.

Review 119:Had to wait 25 minutes for someone to show up to check me in when I was already running late to a meeting. There was a sign on the door saying they will be back in 15 minutes... The cleanliness appeared fine at first glance but later I kept finding hair on towels, blood stains on shower curtains and other unpleasant surprises. Location can also be bad, as the area is a bit sketchy.

Review 120:Location is good - close to BART and easy to get around. Rooms are decent, spacious, bed is relatively comfortable although pillows weren't great. All in all, this is a 'you get what you pay for' kind of place and if you know this heading in, it's going to be easier to deal with the negatives.

Review 121:we told them about the the dirty comforters on the bed(that wasn't from us)...instead of changing them they wiped it down which looked like a stain removal...only problem was it turned yellow...same spot and everything!

Review 122:like the price the most!

Review 123:Upper 2 queen room that I rented for my 2 brothers was horrible, they refused to use the shower and covered the toilet seat, wouldnt walk on the carpet barefooted and couldnt wait to get out in the morning due to the smell and all the other issues

Review 124:Lower level king room was newly remodeled and was very suitable for my husband and I But....

Review 125:The only thing i did not like was when i had yo give up my room due to sold out rooms.

Review 126:Staff was Very nice and very helpful with p w rsonal matters... very understanding and resourceful. I will stay at this hotel Anytime! It was clean, comfortable, private, and quiet. Great location, less than 5 minute walk to BART which I use often.

Review 127:requested a non smoking room & was given a room that had lingering tobacco smell. the ceiling & microwave had burnt marks. talked to the management about the situation & wasn't offered any discounts or a room exchange for the inconvenience.

Review 128:the quietness. friendly service upon check in. comfortable stay.

Review 129:Poor Wifi connection, bad communication between reception and house-keeping (accidental disposal of our possessions)

Review 130:Very Friendly staff, good room (spacious and comfortable, fantastic TV set), good location, value for money

Review 131:The staff was not really nice. WiFi didn't work. We had to pay for ice. No vending machines!! Only one set of towels. We had to beg for more towels. They advertised free parking, but I did not have any available. Just horrible!!

Review 132:Nothing, I will never stay there again. We had to pay for ice

Review 133:Dirty doors and tub, unsatisfying shower due to low flow, moldy shower curtain, tiny soaps, sheet and comforter and no blankets. Some sketchy people around and one person got very angry and broke the glass door to the office after lots of yelling and screaming.

Review 134:Comfy bed, windows that open to courtyard with fountain, room recently repainted and newish bedding and curtains, microwave and fridge, good doughnut place nearby, near Bart. Staff helpful. Generally pretty quiet at night.

Review 135:The staff at check in was not rude but not very friendly. He didn't even ask how I was going to pay and automatically assumed I was paying with the same card I booked the room with. He simply charged it without asking first. Also, when I asked for extra towels in the morning (there were 4 of us and the room only had 2 towels) he said that "room service" didn't start until 10 am and that I couldn't get towels before that time! I've never heard of that before and we all were going to shower. I guess you really do get what you pay for. The neighborhood didn't seem too safe either.

Review 136:The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The location was close to San Francisco.
