Reviews for Loews Don Cesar Hotel

Review 1:Thank you to Anna from Italy at the front desk. I was there for my wedding night and everything was going wrong. She turned it around and made my day that much brighter. A big thank you to her and your staff for the thoughtfulness of leaving chocolate strawberries for that extra touch!

Review 2:Just not necessarily my cup of tea. The staff was ok, not great for the most part. Dinner at the Maritime was ok, also not great. They were out of a couple of wines and service there was ok but not very crisp (food auctioning etc.). One older gentlemen working the valet may even be described as crispy. When I asked how long it would take for a cab, while a younger men was about to help me, he interfered and handed me a business card for the taxi company. Then he said: " Call them and they will let you know." Especially since there were five of them at that moment standing around it seemed rather nasty, mostly because of the attitude. Coffee from room service was good one day but cold and weak the next. Not ok when you charge $18.50 for a pot with two cups. The standard room is ok but rather tight and seems dated, especially the bathroom and shower situation is like at an Airport hotel. The food at the beach restaurant was ok, the wine selection and quality not. One the upside, the band for the NY Eve gala was great.

Review 3:The place looks charming and has that old world grand resort feel.

Review 4:For such an expensive hotel, I resented paying $10 a day to sit on a sun lounger on the beach. For a family of 4, that is an extra $40 a day! Not to mention if we wanted a beach umbrella to protect us from the sun- that is a further cost.

Review 5:Location, staff, food and facilities hard to fault.

Review 6:We reserved a junior suite with an ocean view which was horrible!!!There was only one small window in the entire suite, which was in thebedroom. The living area without the lamps on would be completely darkand without any outside light coming in. The bathroom door was more of ahinderance than creating privacy; bathroom was also very, very dark! Thefront desk clerk offered to switch our room to a view of the parking lotfor $100 more a night! Are they freaking crazy??? This was the kicker;after spending $1700 for four nights, the manager had her nerves toknock on our door at 11:15 to tell us that check out was at 11:00am. Iwas infuriated and as a result of everything I would never stay orrecommend this property again or to anyone!!!

Review 7:The jazz music entertainment in the lobby area was quiteentertaining and the bar staff were superb. The ambience in thelobby made it very relaxing.

Review 8:Nothing the place is a dream

Review 9:The place is so good its a legend in its own right, without doubt a fine hotel that makes you smile to think your drinking at the same bar Al Capon drank at, and many others

Review 10:That the bar at the beach wasn't open at night very late. There was however an indoor bar and that was nice. Awesome stay.

Review 11:Loved the location, beach and historic hotel building. Beautiful decorations for the holiday seasons. Will come back again for sure. Loved it.

Review 12:Historic appeal with every modern convenience. Beautiful room and facilities. Great pool and beach access. Friendly staff. Very spendy but all around a wonderful ans memorable experience.

Review 13:The hotel is getting a little older so you can def see some wear and tear. I very much disliked that you needed to pay for the beach chairs. The hotel rate is quite steep so it would be nice if it includes being able to relax on the beach.

Review 14:It's a unique experience because the hotel is such a landmark. The pool area is great!

Review 15:Construction work during breakfast. Had to pay for sun beds at the beach. Hidden extra taxes and resort fee charges. Hotel old. Asked for a late check out and first response was no. After asking for the manager yes.

Review 16:Comfortable beds. Jazz music at the bar in the evening

Review 17:They make you pay a hefty "resort fee" on top of your room rate (and taxes), which is a new thing to us, having visited Florida a number of times over the years - it should really just be included in the room rate, but they hook you with a lower headline rate then they add on this resort fee, which you need to read the "small print" to spot. They are not the only hotel doing this, but really, wifi, use of pool, leisure and gym facilities - that's why we book somewhere like this in the first place, and it is a bit sour to then charge additional on top to cover these facilities.

Review 18:The friendliness of the staff - it is a very good hotel but the staff were not in the least unfriendly or stuffy. Rameena (sorry if I have spelled it wrong) in the fitness/yoga suite was really lovely; Jim Nock drove us in to Downtown St Pete's and was so helpful with ideas of where to eat, what to do, and generally very friendly and thoughtful, bringing us chilled water bottles when he came to take us back to the hotel; Matthew helped with Paddleboarding (try it, it is such fun) and carried my board to the water and back for me, and gave us a quick reminder of what to do to steer etc; And Rita on the front desk was an angel. Add in the great location, the history and splendour of the place, and you have a pretty great stay. This was a return trip for us, and we were not disappointed.

Review 19:The room and bathroom were really small, even with upgrade to Luxury...I'm pretty small and only 5'4" and my knees touched the bathtub when I used the toilet.

Review 20:The beds were amazingly comfortable

Review 21:The hotel is quite a way from shops and restaurants , there was no vending machine, the price of parking and $25 daily resort fee added up.

Review 22:The Hotel was grande, right on the beach which was nice, interior decoration was lovely and the staff were great . Pool area was nice.

Review 23:Small room. Not the cleanest. Water didn't go down the drain properly in shower and sink.

Review 24:Pool and beach were beautiful. Restaurants were terrific. Staff was accommodating.

Review 25:Location was excellent, beautiful beach, plenty of great things to do in the area. Great restaurants close. Hotel restaurants offered delicious food also.

Review 26:The room service meal was Not great - the burgers and fries were cold upon delivery. The server was great though. At the pool the set up service was excellent. Some 'prime' chairs were reserved, for club members, who sometimes didn't show up until mid morning or in one case all day. It seems that there should be time hold limits even for club members.

Review 27:The overall atmosphere is great, staff is friendly and very accommodating.

Review 28:I was charge 100 per night in case of any damages which is fine and understandable but I wasn't told when I check in

Review 29:Great location friendly staff clean and beautiful hotel

Review 30:Missed having a balcony, and a room close to the ocean. Missed being able to open window or door and hear ocean at night. Room was a little pricey.

Review 31:Loved the atmosphere it felt like walking back in time. Loved the privacy of the beach with no other hotels nearby. Loved the two pools, the bar, and the poolside service. Every waiter/waitress/pool staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 32:Paid for a Luxury King, was given a Luxury Queen. Was downgraded NOT upgraded. Desk Clerk should have said so at the check in or UPGRADED us without asking when she realized that she didn't have what we paid for. Was given a credit, SO WHAT, If I wanted a less expensive room I would have bought one.

Review 33:Very nice place to relax.

Review 34:Room was very small. Nowhere in any description did it indicate how small a "deluxe king" room was. We actually had to walk sideways in some areas.

Review 35:$12 cocktails. Renting a chair on the beach for $100. Bathroom fan didn't work. "City view" was a view of the roof. Breakfast not included. Expensive to begin with then extra charges for everything.

Review 36:The location and arrangemenr of the hotel was very nice.

Review 37:The reservations staff and front desk staff were horrible and unprofessional to say the least. The service by the pool/beach was horrible as well. Such a bad experience to say the least for many reasons and not one staff member seemed to care. No apology or any effort made to make the situation better. I will never stay here again non will I ever recommend this hotel.

Review 38:the location and the hotel itself is great and the rooms are very nice. That is the only positive I can say about my trip.

Review 39:WiFi speed was too low to watch any movies on my tablet, but was ok for facebook and email.

Review 40:The friendly staff, the hotel amenities. Lots to do and convenient and clean location.

Review 41:The upgrade email sent the day before the no upgrade the next day. Why bother if there are one available? The exorbitant prices for beds and chairs on the beach.

Review 42:The Mauritana grill, fantastic food, ambience and a really great waitress.

Review 43:Breakfast place too small and not well organized Quality of food in the Sea Porch Restaurant was disappointing Bathroom too small, no separate shower

Review 44:Great Location Friendliness of the staff Awesome cocktails Nice views Perfectly located at the beach

Review 45:Staff at times were sullen, smiles sometimes few and far between . And check in girl had poor attitude especially when I discovered we had no balcony nor gulf view. She did nothing to win us round in fact her whole attitude changed and was most off putting, making the break get off to a very poor start. The partial gulf view she pointed out to me from the room was over the car park a,, sunset over the car park not the gulf in my book !!

Review 46:The comfortable beds were great

Review 47:I wish we could afford to stay longer, but that's more on me. I can't complain too much on the price, but it would be nice if a beach chair was included and not charged for every little thing. (Free wifi though and that's good)

Review 48:We felt like royalty sitting on the powdery white sand and eating poolside. The icecream parlor/Starbucks on the property is icing on the cake. We had a fantastic time.

Review 49:I had trouble with my reservation. The desk clerk was not at all helpful. Fortunately, the manager stepped in and helped us out.

Review 50:The facility was very pretty

Review 51:Bought a little cooler at the local store for family to sit and visit on the beach was told do not bring on pool deck. But dogs could roam around the facility. SMH

Review 52:Personel often doesn't live up to the hotel standard. Quality of breakfast and food from the pool level restaurants is mediocre. Charges for beach chairs and umbrellas too high.

Review 53:Lots of free fun activities all day long. Great place to stay with children. Historic landmark hotel.

Review 54:Not enough room around the pool areas, shortage of sun loungers which are being reserved by giving pool attendants a payment!

Review 55:Very comfortable and stylish suite, clean and well maintained all through the hotel

Review 56:The location being right on the beach and the pool atmosphere was the best part of the hotel. The service and the staff was excellent! We really loved the food at the pool and the sea porch restaurant! Best pancakes and best piña coladas!

Review 57:A bit pricey and beach chairs you have to pay for. Should have been free to sit on beach chairs at your hotel.

Review 58:On the beach and near everything . Comfortable beds and very clean. Great weather as well! I would advise you to go and enjoy!

Review 59:45 minutes to get a drink on the beach.....twice. Night bartender seemed to be put out waiting on us and bar was not well stocked. Room key didn't work. Seven dollars for a bottle of Fiji water?

Review 60:Very comfortable room.

Review 61:Great location fronting on to lovely clean white sandy beach. This was our third visit over a space of 10 years and we have found the friendly, professional staff and service are the best that we have experienced anywhere. Love the pool bar; happy hour for cocktails just before sunset. Good food from the restaurants, lovely hotel bar with live music.Beach walks at sun rise and sunset to die for. Bike hire from the hotel. Sophisticated yet home from home. One of my favourite places in the world.

Review 62:Poor parking setup. Add on costs for services not used.....ie pool out of service......road construction outside window 7:30 am.....water shut offs.....tiny child size bathrooms ........ It is all about corp greed not customers needs. Would never stay in a Lowes Hotel again. Got better service at cheaper hotels.

Review 63:Lovely to look at. Beautiful lobby.

Review 64:A bit pricey for the room size. Loud high pitched whining noise in our room's a/c unit all night. No need for the hefty resort fee charged.

Review 65:Staff was courteous and pleasant during our brief stay. Bed was super comfortable.

Review 66:Loved the different restaurants and the first level bar along with the wonderful selections in the shots. The staff went out of their way to be friendly.

Review 67:Food was not worth what it was priced at. There are bars with better food for 1/2 the price. Valet/ Bag attendants just let all our bags including computers etc. Stay placed on the curbside in front of other traveler's with no supervision. I should back and watched it happen.

Review 68:Great location. Great Beach.

Review 69:When paying to stay at such a nice hotel it comes across as money grabbing when every "extra" comes at a price. When you have splashed out to stay at such a resort you then want to relax and not constantly be aware that the hotel is trying to make money out of you at your every move. Not sure if it's just an American thing but toning it down would make a huge difference.

Review 70:Amazing hotel with history and beautiful location away. Very quiet when we visited which we lived.

Review 71:Resort charges too high if you are traveling on business which was not revealed in the booking process

Review 72:Amazing location and outstanding friendly staff except for reception

Review 73:Friendliness of the staff. Didn't seem like the above and beyond attitude you look for in a hotel of this caliber. Fitness center was limited/ outdated and room was small.

Review 74:I like the location and upgraded features of a small room.

Review 75:I did not think it is accommodating to charge for the room, and then additionally charge to sit on a beach chair. I felt like the company is being greedy in asking their guests to pay to sit on an average beach chair!!

Review 76:Enjoyed the facilities and staff

Review 77:The room was not a "luxury suite". Old, claustrophobic, only one window in the corner. bathroom not well laid out. No value for money

Review 78:The restaurant Maritana was fabulous. Very fresh ingredients, imaginative cooking and well presented

Review 79:Beach chairs should be included in the inflated price for small rooms. I never found water aports that were supposed to be included. Overall too expensive.

Review 80:Perfect location, beautiful property, conducive to rest and relaxation, perfect for a care-free vacation.

Review 81:Have been staying at the Don for over 30 years & have always enjoyed the beach, service & ambiance. Lowe's redo has updated this hotel nicely.

Review 82:my two daughters enjoyed their stay with staffs of the kids club, they also like t he pool so much . we booked a dophin wathching tour,it was a very nice trip.

Review 83:Limited menu in restaurants, very pricey, a lot of sea food dishes and not much choice for kids. No restaurants or shops within walking distance of the hotel, you have to drive everywhere. Having to pay for sun beds and umbrellas on the beach right outside the hotel. We had a suite which was lovely but our balcony overlooked the car park.

Review 84:Beautiful hotel with amazing customer service by all the staff there. Room was lovely and very spacious and bed was very comfortable. One of the nicest 5 star hotels we have stayed in anywhere in the world.

Review 85:Our room was not clean well. There was a pice of candy under the bed, don't know how long it has been there; but it was there the day we arrived and was still there a week later when we checked out.

Review 86:Hotel is pretty

Review 87:I have complimented Loews to many people since our stay. Everything about our stay was wonderful and I must say it was the first hotel where every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. From the staff at the front desk to the bellman to the staff on the beach, everyone was fantastic. We will definitely be back.

Review 88:Service was not stellar--lots and lots of "hiccups" in their attempt at top-notch service. I did not feel pampered. Very expensive for what we actually received. Musty smell in halls, food was good but not great, dirty fish tanks by premium tables in restaurant, just not what it used to be.

Review 89:The classic Don CeSar ambiance, location, overall appeal.

Review 90:I loved everything about this experience. We had a meal at the Maritana grill and it was fantastic. The yoga, water aerobics and Core strengthening were excellent!! Thanks to Wendy for the yoga in the sea. The complimentary cocktail at 5:30 was v enjoyable. The bartenders were great and we made friends from Tenessee

Review 91:That we had to request a microwave and DVD player which are usually in the suite.

Review 92:We really enjoyed our long weekend. It's so easy to relax and enjoy yourself once you walk through the front doors. Just say awww!

Review 93:No fan in the bathroom...got foggy after each shower.

Review 94:The outdoor hydration stations were fabulous. Staff were all very kind and helpful/happy. Our stay was great from beginning to end!

Review 95:The Don Cesar is an excellent property. The service and accommodationswere great. The staff is very nice and friendly. We enjoyed our stayvery much.

Review 96:Upon check in, we were given the keys to our room with a smile without any warning that the room we were given, was not what we reserved. It was located on the east side of the hotel with a beautiful view of the parking lot. We had reserved a Grand King room, which is on the west side of the hotel, overlooking the beach. Disappointed with the situation, we were finally given the room we reserved after 10 minutes of "I'm sorry, all the rooms overlooking the beach are all booked for today....let me check with the manager...oh, here we go, we found one...

Review 97:The hotel was very nice and elegantly decorated. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Very nice pool and beach!

Review 98:I really enjoyed the view from the hotel. I also really enjoyed the private beach.

Review 99:the location is perfect, very quiet, great beach, great pool facilities

Review 100:Service and location....plus spa facilities.....yoga in particular!!!!!

Review 101:Value for money

Review 102:Location

Review 103:rooms too small for handicap person

Review 104:On booking.com it said I owed $648 and my bill was $826. Too many resort, parking fees and taxes.Wish those amounts were on paper in booking.com

Review 105:Only a few rooms with full beach view

Review 106:Wonderful beach so close

Review 107:No easy and affordable breakfast Have to pay for Transat on the beach Rooms with full beds, not queen

Review 108:Location Beach restaurant Swimming pool

Review 109:Everything has a price.

Review 110:Very comfortable, excellent facilities friendly staff

Review 125:rooms are too small for a family

Review 126:Pool staff and location
