Reviews for The Giacomo, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member

Review 1:The bedside clock/radio and shower head need work.

Review 2:The decor was really great - old fashioned but so are we. I liked the cookies delivered to the door!! The breakfast was excellent and the bed very Very comfortable. Room temperature was easilly controllable. The view from the 19'th floor was worth the trip. We loved the helpful friendly staff. We will book again next time.

Review 3:My boyfriend and I were looking to take a romantic getaway for a weekend. This hotel met all of our needs and expectations then surpassed them by miles. The staff was friendly, above accommodating and helpful. I would highly recommend anyone stay here. Beautiful views, incredible service and cleanliness. If you want to be treated like royalty stay here!

Review 4:Plumbing not great, and the original function of the building was evident as service pipes were present in the rooms - despite efforts to hide them with paint. The "Panoramic lounge" was largely a waste of time!

Review 5:The staff were excellent, helpful and friendly.Top notch. Every effort had been made to make the hotel look good - the internal decor was really very good. Memorable. We would recommend and will return.

Review 6:Excellent location close to both the false and the facilities in town. The rooms were spacious ,well appointed and a good bathroom. The food was good but not excellent. The lighting in the room was poor and the curtains did not fully open so there was little natural light.

Review 7:No bath (shower only) pity no restaurant on site (shortage of decent restaurants in Niagara Falls on US side). Missed making up our bed!

Review 8:Position of hotel, parking good, room good size. Breakfast OK. Nice touch to have free wine reception on 18th floor. Best building in Niagara Falls (although not too much competition)

Review 9:Nothing to complain about. Fresh coffee all the time. Fresh baked cookies every night.

Review 10:The staff is great. The breakfast very good. The location outstanding. I would go back without hesitation.

Review 11:This hotel had a fantastic location being so close to Niagara Falls and the Canadian border. The staff were wonderful giving us an umbrella in the cold weather along side places you can get a takeaway from at night.

Review 12:The room was a little dark for my taste. Very little view. Also needed a bedside table on both sides of the king bed (there was just one).

Review 13:The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The room was large and well appointed. Very comfortable bed. The breakfast offered good variety and freshly prepared hot food.

Review 14:There was nothing wrong at all! The two days at the hotel left uswishing we could have stayed longer.

Review 15:The room was luxurious and comfortable. Complimentary parking and thefull breakfast was an unexpected surprise. The front desk staff was ofgreat assistance and very friendly.

Review 16:Not bad, disappointing. The bar was out of several liquors and two nice ones. Statement was "we're out of that ".

Review 17:Loved the boutique vibe. Comfortable bar with fireplace. Loved the tower room overlooking the Niagara River and the falls!

Review 18:This hotel was in a perfect location, less than 10 minutes walk to the Canadian border crossing. Probably the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in. The breakfast was perfect and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Great value for money.

Review 19:AC was loud.

Review 20:Location is great, and it is probably the best looking hotel on American side. The stuff was friendly, and our room was pretty nice too. Good breakfast in a cozy lounge.

Review 21:We did not receive the warm cookies at all our whole stay, which was a little disappointment. Also, it would be better if there was a pool and/or hot tub. Besides the fancy appearance, I did not see where the amount of money we paid was going. The bar was very over priced, especially since the bartender had no idea how to make any of the drinks. She had to look at the recipe for everything and still messed them up.

Review 22:I liked the ambience of the place. It appeared very fancy for the money paid.It was a great location and easy to find since it was one of the highest buildings in the area.

Review 23:The rooms really could have been cleaner, especially for the price. Very dusty.

Review 24:The beds were great, loved the cookies at night and breakfast was decent. Also, the location to the falls was fantastic!

Review 25:We mentioned this when we checked out, but the air conditioning was very noisy. Even though we switched it off during the night it still made noises and disturbed our sleep.

Review 26:Our room was fabulous. It was spacious, tastefully decorated and had a very comfortable bed. I would have loved to have stayed longer! The location was good - not far from the falls or Rainbow Bridge. The free valet parking was appreciated, as were the fresh cookies which were delivered to our room not long after we checked in! I can't comment on the breakfast as we left too early in the morning to have any. The staff couldn't have been more helpful.

Review 27:nothing

Review 28:Location.Easy walk to Niagara Park and Falls. The staff was excellent. Their recommendations for vegetarian food places were excellent. The lounge at 19th floor is very nice and worth enjoying.

Review 29:shower head needed replacing, not enough water flow even when adjusted to the other settings available.

Review 30:location and staff were excellent. Bathroom and shower cubicle great.

Review 31:We had an electrical issue in our room that caused the airconditioner to growl very loadly every 15 minutes and it made sleeping difficult. otherwise it is a lovely hotel.

Review 32:I loved the staff, very professional. We escpecially liked the woman origanally from Germany she was a good host.

Review 33:I just wish that tgere was an option for fresh eggs. Other than that ... Everything is great!

Review 34:The room are clean and the hotel is close enought to the falls and border where you can walk going to Canada. The staff are amazing.

Review 35:Wish I had different breakfast on day 2 of the stay.

Review 36:I can see the hotel anywhere I go in Niagara Falls. It was a beacon for me. Hotel was pleasantly quiet.

Review 37:The breakfast area was noisy with the cleaning ladies washing the dishes and everything aside. There was no chef preparing the breakfast. The ladies working there were friendly but the problem was that they were cleaning the tables, washing the dishes and cooking the scrambled eggs at the same time, not to mention the greasy-looking hair they had. The taste of the fruit salad was so weird that I was wondering if it was also those ladies who prepared with sweating hands. Sorry for the expression but it was truly awful the breakfast. One morning those ladies ran out of knives and forks (not yet washed) that they gave us plastique ones. Never the right number of cups at the table...

Review 38:The gentlemen who takes care of the cars at the front desk. He was really nice and helpful.

Review 39:Extremely helpful, friendly staff. The Sky deck was an added bonus, loved the views. Bed was very comfortable. Not "bad", but you couldn't control the temperature in your room. Bar staff were superior! Great place to stay!

Review 40:The room set up was below average. The valet parking which was not mentioned during the booking process, it only says free parking. I do not like valet parking The room and service for the cost of the room were extremely below average. Actually, I found three dead insects in my room and reported that in the morning when I left the hotel because I arrived late afternoon and was externally tried after 8 hours driving and does not have the energy to deal with the issue. In fact this is why I reserved this overpriced hotel thinking they would have good services and I would avoid any hassle. Anyway, In the morning the manger came and said I will refund you $20 dollar image that not a 20% but only $20 honestly,I felt that I am not compiling about my right but asking them for money! I replied that I do not need their $20 dollar then came the surprise the manger suspected that their are dead insects and started questioning me Did you leave the window open , and implying why did not report that yesterday also asked to see the room !!! Being still tired from 8 hours drive and knowing that I am going to drive another 8 hours. I allowed her to see the room to only prove that there are dead insects. She came back from the room and confirmed the existence of the dead insects !! then offer $40 dollar refund out of $305.9 the room cost. At this stage I knew the level of professionalized the hotel has. Took the $40 and will never deal with this hotel again.

Review 41:One of the reception attendance was very friendly and nice call "Mohammed"

Review 42:water pressure in the shower was low and there was no way to adjust the shower head angle/height.

Review 43:the most comfortable hotel bed i've ever slept on the sky view room on the top floor was a surprise bonus friendliest hotel staff we've ever encountered

Review 44:No safe in the room for passports, electronics, etc while not needed. Valet parking can get annoying. Fireplace was electric. Motion sensors control lights, which is nice, however HVAC system is not on when you return to the room. This may be bad in summer/winter.

Review 45:Spacious rooms with 20+ foot ceilings. Large bathroom with walk in shower & bench seat in shower. Keurig coffee maker with complimentary k-pods. Real windows that open for fresh air. Sky lounge giving 360 degree view of entire area so you can see where you want to go before leaving. Sky lounge has a TV, bathroom and multiple couches. Very close to falls!

Review 46:Cleaning staff was rude and very unprofessional.quote. I hate people who put do not disturb signs on the door.end quote. Right in front of me!!!!!!!!!!!

Review 47:Front desk staff was super friendly and professional. Loved the room and the hotel!!!

Review 48:Other than a blown light bulb which cannot realistically be considered a bad experience, there was nothing we could complain about.

Review 49:The initiative to "discount" the bill because they felt they were inattentive by not addressing a "lighting" problem in the room immediately. The staff put extreme effort in providing excellent service.

Review 50:My only criticism would be the constant fan noise in the bathroom area. A separate switch for the exhaust fan would make the space much more pleasant for those of us who have to go through the tedium of putting on our faces in the morning.

Review 51:The Staff couldn't be more accommodating. I arrived very early from the train station and they made me very welcome - coffee and a lovely sitting area plus free WIFI made the wait for my room most pleasant - plus they had my room ready 2 hours before their advertised check-in time. The rooms are wonderful - the bath area a room unto itself - whoever designed the reno should be congratulated. Beds are super comfy and a Keurig coffee maker - heaven!!

Review 52:Our only complaint was the incorrect information:"Free on site parking" when it was really "Complimentary valet parking." My husband does not like valet parking, so I would not have picked this hotel if the info had been correct. However, when I shared this complaint at check in, the woman at the front desk let us park in one of their four reserved spots across the street. They made us happy, but it was a slow season. Normally they wouldn't have been able to offer this solution.

Review 53:Our room was beautiful and cozy. The breakfast was beyond regular hotel breakfast!

Review 54:We had a better room the last time we stayed there and this time we had a smaller room that was not to our liking for the amount of money that we were paying. Very disappointed. We will think twice for our next visit to that part of town.

Review 55:Love the location and property as well as the staff.

Review 56:The rooms were very dark. No lights. I had difficulties to dress up and find my stuff in my luggage.

Review 57:The location was perfect. The staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. We really loved their secured parking and the view of 19th floor.

Review 58:The one thing that we didn't like was that you can't see the falls from the hotel. I'm guessing you probably would be able to see them from some of the hotels on the Canadian side.

Review 59:There were a lot of things. The hotel was very beautiful. The staff was absolutely amazing. For example, we called down to check where the ice machine was, and they offered to bring it up to us, along with some freshly baked cookies that were delicious. The hotel is in the New York side of Niagara Falls, so you don't need a passport or anything to get to it. The room was very nice and ornate. The lounges were very well layed out, and there is a lounge at the top of the hotel that you can get a really nice view from. It was all around a very nice stay.

Review 60:Not much to do at all on American side of falls in winter.

Review 61:Beautiful boutique hotel-best hotel on American side of falls. Clean, comfortable, beautiful and cool Art Deco decor. Breakfast good

Review 62:No problems.

Review 63:I was given a free upgrade on check-in. The breakfast (included with rate) each morning was delicious. My room had a fireplace with a view of the Falls. Great, comfortable bed. The hotel is walking distance to the Falls and casino, among other things.

Review 64:While the room was cleaned nicely, the bathtub was not cleaned properly on one of the days. Also, the temperature control in the room was confusing to use.

Review 65:The decor was lovely, the furniture was very comfortable, and the staff was fantastic. Really liked the valet parking.

Review 66:Staff very pleasant. When we arrived our room was 67 degrees and when I asked at the desk they said it will warm with movement in the room. The staff managed the temp and it was not going up. The manager came and told me that the room was not moving so he handed me keys for a new room and apologized. That is excellent customer service and free valet parking. We will stay again. Staff were great

Review 67:The only slight criticism is that the low atmospheric lighting can make the rooms seem a little dark. But that adds to the charm

Review 68:The hotel has a lovely atmosphere. It is brilliantly located and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Review 69:the room was cold and took a while to heat up.

Review 70:the room was very spacious and I loved the "older" style decor versus the "new" hotel chain look.

Review 71:With each and every visit to the Giacomo, I am always greeted by the most friendly staff and they honestly go out of their way to accommodate any thing that I may require. Joy, the Manager, is one of the best and most professional Managers I have run into in a long time, and I am a frequent traveller. My highest recommendations to this small boutique hotel!!!!

Review 72:Todo en Niagara queda muy cerca por lo que la ubicación del hotel no es importante, sin embargo la atención, instalaciones y comfort de este hotel lo hacen sobresalir de otros ubicados en el mismo sector, muy buena experiencia

Review 73:I'm glad to see the Niagara Falls NY area starting to build up. There is still a need for more restaurants & activities in this area. The hotel is updating carpets, etc. this year which I'm happ to hear. It needs a little bit of touch up.

Review 74:I just love the decor in this hotel and I like the bar and the whole vibe. We stay here every year because we enjoy the rooms at this hotel. They are large and well appointed. We love Lewiston NY which is just 10 minutes away.

Review 75:Room was a bit cold Room was dark due to limited lighting Motion sensor lights in bathroom made for shocking "midnight runs" :)

Review 76:Art Deco decor Good breakfast Comfortable, clean room Fantastic, helpful staff

Review 77:The room was a bit cold, but nothing that we couldn't adjust to. We were offered offered a smaller room which would be a bit warmer, as the end units are a bit colder than the rest of the other rooms. We decided to stay as we absolutely loved our room. It really wasn't a major issue. That hotel will be our new home away from home. Love it.

Review 78:I absolutely love the politeness of the staffs, everyone was courteous and polite. The hotel was beautiful. The room was comfortable, I love the decor, the bed was absolutely comfortable.

Review 79:No safe in room. Centrally controlled room thermostat. Room tended to be rather cool and took a while to heat up. No pen and pad in room. Overall, minor stuff. Nothing that took away from this great Hotel.

Review 80:Wi-fi that works well, and is free. Valet parking that's easy and fast. Plus is at no charge. All the staff are great. A Hotel breakfast that's above the average. Above size rooms. It's been a while since I've been impressed by a room. The quietest room that I've stayed in, in a long time. 2nd floor, corner room. No hall noise, due to 6 rooms a floor. Evening cookies delivered to your room. Quick check in and check out. Observation deck on 18th floor. Foggy on the night I went, but a great view.

Review 81:We only had neighbours in the room next door for one of the nights we stayed there & it became quite obvious that the walls are pretty thin. We had no reason to complain - it was just casual talking and laughter from next door (nothing that kept us awake or couldn't be tuned out with our own talking or tv watching)... made us aware that the people next door could likely hear us as well as we could hear them though hahaha!

Review 82:Our stay at the Giacomo was amazing! From check in to check out we received amazing service & the room was lovely! I dragged myself into the hotel lobby at 12pm on black Friday after being up all night shopping (even though I knew check in wasn't until 4pm) and asked if there was ANY chance my room was ready or would be ready soon - I was tired and ready for a nap. Amazingly they were more then happy to accommodate my early check in! After my nap, I realized that I had forgotten a few things in my truck that I would need for that night. Having read the reviews I knew that it was possible I might have to wait or have trouble accessing my vehicle... it was NO problem... I went down and explained my situation and they offered to bring my truck to the front of the hotel & then put it back - but they were also willing to let me go to my truck on my own. The next evening we were headed out for late dinner and could smell fresh cookies all over the hotel. We asked the concierge where the smell was coming from & they explained they were delivering them to the hotel guests. We left a little disappointed (hahaha) but came back around midnight to a plate of cookies from a smiling concierge staff - the cookies were quite yummy! Loved this hotel, will be back every year for my annual shopping weekend.

Review 83:The stay was very comfortable. The staff was very helpful, friendly and made us feel like we were at home. The customer service was excellent. We will go back and stay at the giacomo again next year.

Review 84:Temperature was too low - it is an energy conservation hotel so the heat turns off when you leave the room. When you get back, it takes a long while to warm up.

Review 85:The beds were amazing - slept like a baby. The complementary truffle chocolate is an amazing touch! Breakfast area very lovely and comfortable

Review 86:we had difficulty with Wi-Fi service on the 6th floor. We were told the 5th floor had a hot spot. The lounge was a bit price and the glasses were not full, but the bartender was very pleasant.

Review 87:the staff was very friendly & helpful on all shifts.

Review 88:They even serve hot cookies at night to every room :) it was one of the best feeling ever in the cold weather to find them getting you hot cookies and the smell of the cinnamon was in the whole floor all night

Review 89:They had a dinning room and served breakfast but not lunch or dinner

Review 90:Great, small boutique style European feel classy place. If they everwant to sell I want to buy! Walking distance to just about everything.

Review 91:Rooms were very very cold. No wifi the entire time. The staff was rude (kitchen staff was friendly though).

Review 92:Breakfast was awesome! Valet was lovely and room was very clean.

Review 93:sheets were not changed daily as advertised - shower and bathroom floor not cleaned daily- glasses not clean, just half hearted wiped ( milk rings) - parking difficult for pickup truck and limited space

Review 94:great location - no bed bugs - good breakfast included

Review 95:Room was not ready by 4:00 p.m. check-in time, wasn't ready until 5:00 p.m. Valet parking, even though parking lot was just across street, inconvenient to access car. Carpet in room was stained in several places, looked dirty. Cobwebs hanging from ceiling. TV remote didn't work, asked housekeeping to fix or replace, which didn't happen. Bathroom sink drained very slow. Had to call front desk to get toilet plunger to flush toilet.

Review 96:Close to Niagara Fall, breakfast was good.

Review 97:If you say you have valet parking, then have someone outside to greet your guests. Need to have larger sized bathrobes for your guests. One size only fits some - not most.

Review 98:Everything was wonderful.

Review 99:Location has many unoccupied buildings. Room needs electrical outlets for cell phones, Ipads, ect. Room needs brighter lighting.

Review 100:Breakfast was fabulous. Room was well decorated. Loved the walk in shower. All the staff was courteous and very friendly.

Review 101:The only thing we didn't like was the lack of lighting in our room. We understand they are trying to set an atmosphere and not have a glaring overhead light, but one or two more lights or higher wattage would have been preferable.

Review 102:The Giacomo was very clean and comfortable and within walking distance to NF State Park and the Rainbow Bridge to Canada. The breakfast buffet was varied and delicious. Would recommend and would stay there again.

Review 103:The fridge had some issues but they gave us a credit for the troubles. But wasn't s big deal to us.

Review 104:This hotel was great, modern rooms with plenty of space. We rented the king suite with jacuzzi tub. The tub was great though we didn't use it much. Robes are awesome, staff was great and took care of us for our stay.

Review 105:The valet: It took about 25 minutes to bring my car back.it happend when I was going to the airport.

Review 106:The location, by walking you can go to the niagara falls and its park.during our stay there was some activities around the hotel musical bands, bazar etc.. Free Valet parking.

Review 107:Neighborhood! Within walking distance to American Falls, but in a blighted area. A bit scary. No where to go in the evening.

Review 108:Decor and courteous manager

Review 109:First room had non-functioning AC. They quickly offered us another room, which was significantly smaller, no view, but cooler. Thought they would have offered a discount, or a better room for the inconvenience of having to repack and move all of our things to another room.

Review 110:Location was great, although a little difficult to find. Loved the chocolates. Funky decor. Easy walking distance to the falls, and nice dining. Breakfast was surprisingly good. Valet parking for free!! Car is in a safe, locked parking area.

Review 111:Random fire alarm but you can't do much about that and room wasn't booked for 2nd night but they were able to make it right even though the Jacuzzi room wasn't available

Review 112:Everything was perfect

Review 113:We stayed from Monday - Friday the hotel wasn`t very busy in fact one morning we were the only ones at breakfast and the most we saw at sittings were 8. Despite lack of customers we were given a room overlooking the visitors centre (not good) where they could have given us a much more pleasant view looking over the falls. A minor point maybe but these things help to enhance your stay.

Review 114:Location and price were good.

Review 115:Towel had a litlle dirty and bloody, celling had pipe and when you sleep see bad viwe, aircondition was not work for heat, when in next room speak togheder I can hear their noise, and money was expensive.

Review 116:Having only 1 bath in the Suite apartment.

Review 117:Location is just across the park entrance. Instead of having 2 room, we got the suite apartment which was very large with Pool table and Jacuzzi in the bathroom

Review 118:For the price and based on the description of the hotel and room, we were very disappointed with the very small size of the room, and the "view" of another hotel apprxoimately 10 feet from our window! The so-called sky-view room available to guests had no real view of the Falls.

Review 119:Location was good for visit to the Falls. Decor in the room was very nice.

Review 120:We have a fabulous stay at The Giacomo! Our room was beautiful, the front desk staff was so helpful, breakfast was wonderful-- all around excellent! It was so close to the state park, which was a huge benefit. Beautiful place!

Review 121:The Breakfast was very bad. The food was "Comfort Inn" quality and the dish person was smashing dishes together the whole time. It was not very pleasant or comfortable. For $300 per night I would think an "in room" service would be much better.

Review 122:We liked the room and it was pretty comfortable. Some of the fixtures and rug were not installed very well. The wall to wall carpet had ripples and some bath fixture were not great working order.

Review 123:No pull over area for valet parking & no attendant outside. Inside guest staff seemed understaffed but willing to help when available but single person was multi tasking, answering phone and 3 people waiting at desk for help.

Review 124:Enjoyed the great location to N. falls and corner room location was awesome. Bathroom well done, decor creative Got an awesome room rate thru booking.com. Staff at desk remarked how great the deal was for the king corner room we obtained.

Review 125:The ceilings aren't "finished". Minor detail. They are painted.

Review 126:Well managed property all around. Historic building with a modern interior. Helpful staff.

Review 127:Niagara Falls (the town) is a bit past its use-by date. Go for the Falls .... not the town!

Review 128:Great location, walk to the Falls. Desk staff fabulous, parked our car, suggested (late evening) evening places and were quite simply pleasant. Breakfast was included and was very good ... the clean-up area in the Breakfast area was right next to the eating area and the kitchen guy crashed EVERY utensil for the ENTIRE duration of our breakfast .... suggest you sit by the window (as we did the next day).

Review 129:Could not adjust the alarm clock to the right time, just could figure it out. The air conditioner in the room was a bit noisy, I got up in the middle of the night thinking there was running water somewhere.

Review 130:Clean bright, comfortable bed, good breakfast, we enjoyed the whole atmosphere and the staff were very accommodating as well as informative regarding the area.

Review 131:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The room was extremely comfortable (the bathroom is almost as big as the room!). There is a very nice lounge on one of the top floors where you can take your drink to watch the sunset and falls in the background.

Review 132:Nothing - great experience!

Review 133:The design of the rooms and extremely helpful and friendly staff!

Review 134:Nothing

Review 135:Staff were excellent. Room was excellent. Breakfast was excellent. Great location. Thoroughly recommended

Review 136:Friendly staff exceptional servcie
