Reviews for Inn at Jack London Square
Review 1:We didn't have a view but it wasn't needed anyways l.
Review 2:The front desk I think her name was Barbra she was really sweet and check in was so quick! The room was big! Bigger than I thought it would be! I stayed with my boyfriend in the deluxe king room. It was really spacious and had so many mirrors!! The bed was really comfy. Had a fridge and a microwave! I especially liked the heater! It's been so cold in Oakland lately but it wasn't in the room!
Review 3:Nothing at all.
Review 4:Your desk people were awesome. My boyfriend went to the hospital and I was really worried. I was comforted with kind words and good spirit.
Review 5:The signs for the ice machine indicated the courtyard, but the courtyard was closed for remodeling. A temporary sign indicating where the ice machine was relocated would have been appreciated. I have no idea where the ice machine was.
Review 6:It is a nice older motel with a great location near Jack London Square. Much more reasonably priced, for California anyway, than hotels nearby.
Review 7:While they seem to be in the process of some upgrades, the property is quite run down. Examples: - interminably slow elevator - doors and walls scuffed up (wallpaper ripped in the middle of my room's wall) - few plugs and in very inaccessible locations - sockets uncovered
Review 8:Location is convenient
Review 9:View was not good and swimming pool was being worked on right out of our window! It was not pretty looking at that right out our window! We were not told that we would not be able to use the pool !
Review 10:Location was very convienant for our other activities.
Review 11:Hotel was old and worn. Bathroom fixtures and lighting needed major upgrades. Broken glass from cars being broken into littered the streets adjacent to hotel but hotel had a secure parking lot for $20/night
Review 12:access to Jack London Square and restaurants
Review 13:Beware. If you book ANY Hotel within 5 blocks of Jack London Square, there is an active Railroad that runs down the middle of Embarcadero street with Amtrak / CalTrain / Freight trains running all day and night blowing their horns as they go down the street. Didn't bother us and didn't notice it after the first night. But just beware.
Review 14:Room recently renovated. Nice and clean. Bathrooms very nice. AC/Heater was nice and quiet for being in the room. Great Location if you want to be at Jack London Square. ButtercuP restaurant on property which has a great breakfast. Great front desk staff. We will stay there again!
Review 15:Cramped room - crawling over furniture, little bathroomcounter space. Neighboring guest noise through walls.
Review 16:Proximity to Jack London businesses and ferry.
Review 17:The railroad going by in the middle of the night. The elevator did notwork for 3 out of the 9 days we were there.
Review 18:The staff was friendly. It was near Chinatown and it is convenientlylocated to major highways.
Review 19:The rooms are slightly dated/worn and I'm not a fan of rooms that have outside entrances, but it wasn't bad I didn't feel skimped or unsafe.
Review 20:The location was convenient and easy to find, there is a parking garage and a restaraunt on site. Walking distance to Jack London square. Decent pool area, nice size bath tub, comfy beds. I felt safe and clean.
Review 21:Very accomdating front office staff. Location was very good, near downtown for work related meetings, and walking distance to Jack London Square for dinner and night life. Parking was very secure
Review 22:I was so disappointed that the plug in the tub was completely dysfunctional and we couldn't figure out how to fix it. We had paid enough for the room that everything should be working properly.
Review 23:The hoteln s a little dated.
Review 24:We stayed here for a weekend in order to take the Ferry to a Giants game. Jack London Square is evolving to a vibrant extension of SF. There are good restaurants nearby. Once we parked our car at the hotel (extra daily charge), we didn't drive it all weekend.
Review 25:The noise of the trains at night. The elevator did not work for the last three days of our 9 day stay. We should have received a discount. I walk with a cane and walking up and down three flights of stair was quite painful.
Review 26:It was conveniently located to various highways and to Chinatown.
Review 27:Uneven sidewalks dragging a suitcase to & from BART station. Need a shuttle or advertise the shuttle bus schedule in your internet ad.
Review 28:Close to JLS
Review 29:Front desk friendly, professional and helpful. We had to book an extra room for a nephew our final night and they were quick to alert us to the scarcity of rooms which enabled us to be proactive secure him a comfortable room for the night.
Review 30:The room was clean, having an extra sink was a plus. The view was really nice, the office staff was very friendly and helpful. I liked having a restaurant right next door.
Review 31:None.
Review 32:Location was good and proximity to Buttercup Grill which served a great breakfast with a wide selection. Could walk to Jack London Square on the waterfront and to Oakland City Center.
Review 33:Hotel was clean and close to many restaurants but the rooms are slightly small. $18/day parking fee was steep and unexpected. I'm an IHG Spire member so obviously travel a lot. This is basically the kind of hotel/location I look for. Everything you want for restaurants and bars are walkable. Hotel is good.
Review 34:My daughter found it to be an excellent location..close to ferries, the square with a lovely view of the harbour, many restaurants. The Shuttle Bus was a bonus. Also found the staff very welcoming and helpful.
Review 35:I was supposed to have a refrigerator. The vending machine was never refilled with water during my 5 day stay. The two bottles of water in the room were not charged to my account, though, so that was good. My room was missing the strip at the bottom of the door so there was an inch opening. I could hear everything the next door neighbor said on the phone - I could also hear the speakerphone of the person he was talking to.
Review 36:the location is only 2 blocks away from the train track, so you can hear the train (and it honks for a long time....) Also the room smells like mildew. And the bathroom fan is super loud.
Review 37:There's a coined laundry room, and the room service provided by the diner next door was pretty good.
Review 38:Electrical outlets in the room were too loose to hold phone chargers - receptacles need to be replaced. Had to ask for several small items that staff said should be in room (like do not disturb tag for door and laundry bag). No continental breakfast. Water and soda machines were new but wouldn't work for us and several other guests we saw trying to use them.
Review 39:Convenient location just blocks from the affordable foot ferry to San Francisco; pool is large, nicely maintained, and pool area is bordered by beautiful flower/plant beds; restaurants close by.
Review 40:We were concerned about walking under the highway at night, but it was very well lit.
Review 41:LOCATION!! Easy walking distance to many restaurants, parks, and downtown. The hotel had good security.
Review 42:To get to the third floor one needs to either go through the parking garage or take two different elevators in different parts of the building.
Review 43:It was convenient to everything we wanted to do. Also, there was a pleasant restaurant on site, although it was not affiliated with the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. We were on the third floor facing the pool, so any train noise was faint. Also had an exercise room and a small lounge.
Review 44:Wish parking rate was lower. Had something leak onto car window from garage leaving a sticky substance on car window.
Review 45:Great customer service! Close to good eating spots and ferry shuttle to SF.
Review 46:Old, ugly, poor lighting. See comments above.
Review 47:We checked in, left our luggage for an hour, went across the street to eat and plot our escape. We turned in our room key immediately upon our return. The Marriott was a far better choice. This motel (and that's what it is) is far beneath acceptable for the price.
Review 48:Cant see the water but only 2 blocks pleasant walk to the waterfront to enjoy all that Jack London Square has to offer.
Review 49:Avoid the traffic getting into San Fran and enjoy the Oakland side just minutes across the newly updated Bay Bridge to Fisherman's Wharf without the high sticker priced hotels
Review 50:The vagrants and homeless were a bit overwhelming at times. Felt unsafe at night. The adjoining restaurant sharing your location accommodated our requests for a few items we requested but they treated the request as though it was bothersome and a hassle. I heard a condensing comment they made as I left with a few containers and plastic ware to be used to reheat a few things in our room.
Review 51:Location close to Berkeley and SF. Also liked the proximity to surrounding attractions and entertainment. Restaurant selection around was excellent.
Review 52:expensive onsite parking
Review 53:Beds were very comfortable, great location for walking to restaurants, ferry to SF, bars, desk agents friendly, room windows open for fresh air
Review 54:Amtrak train in the areav; although close to Jack London Square, it only had restaurants, no shopping. No complimentary breakfast.
Review 55:The staff was very accommodating. Close to ferry landing. Restaurants nearby.
Review 56:My room was a bit of a walk with all my luggage in hand from the elevator and stairs. Should have better access to all corners of the hotel.
Review 57:The staff was very helpful and pleasant. The location is awesome. It was all very good and if I ever need to stay in Oakland again you can bet I'll be staying here.
Review 58:The pool was unavailable as construction was being done. The construction work was very loud and started too early in the morning waking up and annoying many of the customers.
Review 59:Location
Review 60:My room had been remodeled, but not with quality, and the carpet felt wet all the time. The room smelled musty. Workers started pounding nails and using a drill at 7:30 in the morning which was not what I wanted to hear on my short vacation.
Review 61:The hotel had friendly staff and a convenient location.
Review 62:Wifi amazingly sucked for being in the Bay Area. Ordered a King bed and received to Queens. Just returned from Florida and they included the tax in the cost, and they added it after. Probably says it in the fine print, but aggrivating just the same.
Review 63:Nice staff
Review 64:it does not have breakfast or any other meals. but it is solved by the restaurant next door. the wifi is always going down...
Review 65:very near jack london square is ideal for business stay as subway and ferry are in walking distance. if you find the 10m walk to subway far there is a free bus. at night is very close to jack london where you can find nice restaurants (do not miss Forge fat boy pizza). the fitness center is nice, although only has a few machines.
Review 66:It was too noisy from outside noise, the pillows were too thick, the shower spray was too hard (like needles), light from outside was too bright. The photo of the bed area is accurate, but the rest of the hotel is not as updated as the photo leads you to believe. I had the "deluxe" room...I'd hate to stay in a regular room. Definitely not worth the price.
Review 67:Staff was nice
Review 68:Our last night non guests were with guests, they were loud, foul language. Called front desk at 2:30 am and again at 3:00. They were not asked to leave till I threatened to call the police. Also, no privacy between rooms.
Review 69:Front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Like having a door to outdoor space.
Review 70:This was the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed! The train goes by al day and night and even with your window shut you can hear it. Also there is no a/c what so ever or even a fan in the room. So you sweat all night long!! Oh and don't bother opening the window, because if you thought the train was bad with it closed, imagine.
Review 71:The location. Close to JLS and restaurants.
Review 72:Walking distance to Jack London Sqaure. Walk down to the bar/restaurant Plank. You won't be disappointed. Also there is a bar that survived the 1906 earthquake that is awesome to go grab a drink. The hotel itself is across the street from Beer Revolution, all kinds of craft beers on tap
Review 73:We didn't mind, but some would probably not like the train which is passing nearby like every ten minutes. So those of you with light sleep or edgy nerves: Bring earplugs.
Review 74:Close to SF-ferry and BART station, some good restaurants and clubs nearby, very kind and helpful staff, nice pool area and all for a decent price! We'll be back!
Review 75:Quiet & comfortable room & convenient to Jack London Square and Amtrak. Free city shuttle to within two blocks of amtrak station. Handy and good Cafe.
Review 76:Next to train track... although we didn't hear it overnight at all. What we did hear was the air conditioner. We were hot so turned it on before we went to bed... on low. And every 20 minutes or so it kicks in and is SO LOUD it woke us all up. We finally had to turn it off. This was in January... so in the summer, not sure how you would handle it if you are hot. We didn't use the pool but could see it from our room and it looked very nice.... pretty surroundings... and big. The hotel carpeting looked dingy and old. And there's popcorn ceiling in the rooms. Needs a little updating I would say, but the furnishings were fine. The hot water on the shower just dribbled out, so it took us awhile to figure it out... but three of us took showers and we all had hot water, so it looks worse than it is.
Review 77:My friend and I took our teenage sons to see Tower of Power at Yoshi's. It was literally out the back door and across the street from the hotel... so the location was perfect. It's also just a block from Jack London Square proper... just walk across the street. Lots to do... lots of restaurants. We also found that the bar in Yoshi's served hamburgers too (for the boys) and was cheaper than any of the restaurants around. They also have a Happy Hour menu. The hotel beds were super comfortable. I had forgotten all of my pillows at home, and the pillows at the hotel were very comfy and I didn't even miss mine. There is a train track right next to the hotel and we were told it would go by every hour..... but we didn't hear it once overnight. It was a Saturday night. Not sure if that makes a difference.
Review 78:However hard to find. Parking will get you. Very limited and $18 hidden fee to park! PLace was good for a nights sleep and breakfast next door! Facility has every basic need older establishment but well maintained!
Review 79:The hotel was going through renovations but it was spotty and uneven in what was chosen to be upgraded. For instance, our bathroom and vanity area had new tile but the toilet seat probably cost $1.98 - it was the thinnest, cheapest seat I've ever seen. Same thing with the lightswitch covers - super cheap and cracked. The bathroom door was the original (circa 1950's) cheap &, beat up. We had a bedside lamp that didn't work. Window was super hard to open and frame was cracked. Had the old floor style, push button heater, AC unit by the window - a la Motel 6; it didn't work well either.
Review 80:Great location. Bed was comfortable with nice pillows and linens. Had free wi-fi.
Review 81:The staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. It was a 10 minute walk or a free shuttle bus ride to BART, two stops from SF. And a 2 min. walk to the ferry to SF. Walking distance to many great restaurants in an up and coming part of Oakland.
Review 82:1- Train noise from 6:00 AM for every 15 min. 2- No one to help you move your luggage when check in or out. 3- Room service knock the door at 8:00 AM and insist to clean the room. 4- There is a not nice smell in the rooms.
Review 83:1- The staff are good. 2- The restaurant is fabulous.
Review 84:The plumbing fixtures need to be attended to a little more regularly. The drain in the bath tub was faulty.
Review 85:The room was clean. The environment was decent and the staff was very helpful.
Review 86:room had a funny odd smell walls needed a touch up bed and pillows not comfortable *did not like the fact that I was told a price through online, then the "hold fee" doubled what was charged to my card.
Review 87:Would be very nice if the rooms had refrigerators. There were two exit doors in our room; one inside and one to the outside courtyard. We jammed a chair up against the one leading to outside. They should not charge $18 to park in the garage; $9 would be fair.
Review 88:The staff was nice and helpful; check-in was easy; location is excellent. The restaurant out front has delicious breakfasts and they deliver. The hotel offers free newspaper in lobby.
Review 89:Kinda shabby interior with thin hallway doors that allowed all the noise to be heard quite clearly. Also close to the railroad so we heard trains passing all nite.
Review 90:Location and staff were very good not really much to do in that area of Oakland but was close to our venue.
Review 91:No complaints whatsoever, I just wish there was a Jacuzzi in the poolarea... :-)
Review 92:Nice clean rooms, super comfy beds, and a beautiful view of thecourtyard and pool from every room. Parking is safe and secure. TheButtercup restaurant is excellent!
Review 93:Couldn't quite get connected to wifi.
Review 94:My first trip to Oakland was great. The JL Inn was in a very good location and made it easy to get around. I really liked the parking.
Review 95:Over priced hotel room that smelled like old used gym socks. Rooms are old and outdated. Felt like I was trapped in the 70's. Would not recommend nor would I return.
Review 96:Close to downtown and Bart system
Review 97:Someone really should have mentioned BEFORE we booked the room that the train passes by every five or ten minutes during the day and four times throughout the night. Oh, and it blows the horn several times each pass. We should have been told before we arrived that the elevator to our room was broken.
Review 98:Walking distance to Jack London Square.
Review 99:Tight parking spaces Request for non smoking room but I can smell cig in the room, just stay one night, building under renovation. Additional $15/day for parking we stay 9/30/2014
Review 100:Decent place for short stay, friendly staff!
Review 101:Don`t take a room to the railway!! It goes night and day
Review 102:a) the region around the Inn b)A nice place to relax after walking through SF c)What a wonderful view approaching SF by the ferry! d) a good combination of the Inn and the restaurant
Review 103:Small, cramped room felt more like staying at a cheap motel. Room smelled like strong disinfectant, tv picture went put of whack periodically, shut down one of the elevators which made access worse than it was already.
Review 104:Close to lots of good restaurants and things to do. Old property but up to date interiors. Within walking distance of downtown but also on the route of the free Broadway shuttle.
Review 105:Hate having to pay for parking when rental car prices are already in effect...
Review 106:Our daughter who lives in Oakland recommended the Inn for our visit. We had a great stay - it was well located, clean and the staff was lovely. The Oakland Grill and Blue Bottle Coffee were within walking distance - quality food and drink! Keep it up!
Review 107:Walking through some of the groups hanging out on the streets - felt like I should keep my back to the wall.
Review 108:Quiet, No smoking, Choices to eat out, Waterfront, Talking with local individuals.
Review 109:The description/picture of the hotel was very different than what it is actually like - the location is terrible and the hotel is very run down, with dark hallways and ants in the bathroom. In short, it is not really an inn and it is not really at Jack London Square.
Review 110:Staff were doing the best they could, given the quality of the property.
Review 111:It was further from SFO than we thought but able to use ferry or underground to get there.
Review 112:Hotel was fine, good restaurant next door. Good safe parking although you pay for it.
Review 113:Rooms are very small,to much furniture for rooms that size. You constantly hear other guest walking past the room.
Review 114:My room was switch very quickly when I complained of bugs in my room. The staff was on point. The price was very reasonable, compared to other hotels. The Buttercup restaurant next to hotel awesome. In general nice area and lots of restaurants.
Review 115:This was an absolute terrible stay. We ended up having to switch to another hotel because of the condition of the room. This hotel needs an upgrade desperately!! The toilet sit was to small for the toilet, the mattresses for extremely sunken in, and when we turned on the shower water came out of the faucet and shower at the same time. Whoever owns this hotel should be ashamed of even having it available for booking. Disgrace!!!!
Review 116:The shower was pitiful. The water pressure was almost non-existent and the temperature fluctuated from lukewarm to scalding with no warning. The internet was slow and very spotty. Also, there are way too few electrical outlets. We had to crawl under the desk to plug in the phone recharger. The hotel is obviously an old motel that has been renovated. There is no lobby (just a place to checkin) and the rooms were decorated similarly to most middle range motel chains.
Review 117:It is close to several really good restaurants and things to do--an excellent farmers' market on Sunday, the wharf, and a movie theater. In spite of being a couple of blocks from the train tracks, the room was quiet. Must have had great sound proofing! The staff was friendly.
Review 118:WIFI of low quality No breakfast. You can have an excellent breakfast at the nearby Buttercup Diner but at additional cost
Review 119:Good quality hotel. Nice and helpful personnel. Free parking.
Review 120:shower heights - low for a 6 foot tall person!!
Review 121:- staff were responsive and as a traveller from overseas that is important to me - the desk - good working height for computer related work, the chair height is adjustable YEAH
Review 122:the disconnect in the buildings--how I had to take one elevator down and then walk across and take another to get to the front desk--that was my only complaint
Review 123:great location and close to good restaurants--nice running area for an early morning run--hotel was quiet, and therefore, restful
Review 124:Ongoing construction in pool area
Review 125:Location was great staff was friendly
Review 126:The location was great
Review 127:The TV had issues was not corrected
Review 128:none
Review 129:all
Review 130:Front desk was really helpful and room was great! Thanks to all the workers there!!
Review 131:Like its closeness to the ferry to San Francisco.
Review 132:it is like and old hotel with the pool in the center.. the night shift desk person was just not friendly
Review 133:location
