Reviews for Hostel 47
Review 1:This is like a place for "the guys on a holiday" who don't care about stuff like - not having soap by the sink, -having to pay for a not-so-clean-looking towel, - doing your makeup and hair in the hallway where all the sinks were located. - not being able to lock your shower! - the fact that one key had just gone missing, but the locks weren't changed, or additional copies of the keys made. - that the under-staffing creates an issue for security and cleaning. - that there were no tables or chairs in the room, nor decoration, which would have made the place a bit more "homey". Also, there was no cash register. Cold during the winter, the duves should have been warmer. .
Review 2:Location was ok. Not in the centre of all action, but It's a small town so you can walk everywhere. The staff was nice. Basically " it works". There's bed, toilets, showers, kitchen, some breakfast, TV in the common area, and wi-fi... Every basic need is fulfilled.
Review 3:how clean and tidy the hostel was. and the owner was very friendly. it was a very cozy hostel that felt like a home. not to mention the location was fantastic to see all around the stunning town of Ghent.
Review 4:Breakfast was very bizarre. Which included washing our own cutlery before we could use it. Didn't have any sockets near a mirror.
Review 5:Staff member was very helpful and friendly.
Review 6:First of all: it is not difficult and expensive enough to provide soap (i'm not talking about shower gel or something - just soap to wash hands). Second: My pillow was like a bunch of old socks in a pillowcase - it is really need to be changed. Breakfast wasn't good: small yogurt, bread, cheese and coffee: you will be hungry before you leave this hostel door. And 3 Euro city tax (instead of 24 per night in a 6 snoring people dorm) was kind of irritation, but i found it out during the night, when reception was closed, overslept with this, and payed without any questions.
Review 7:Nice stuff, wrote me an email before arrival and even called me,because the reception was going to be closed in a couple of hours. So the kindly left sheets and a key on the desk. That was nice. Everything was clean.
Review 8:Could have a better location, but it is close to Dampoort train station.
Review 9:The owner was a really nice guy, always trying to help us out. Cozy place. Really clean. The showers and toilets were big enough. We really liked it!
Review 10:Very steep staircase with no elevator.
Review 11:Good location. Decent breakfast. Clean. Good wifi connection. Impressed with shower and bathroom sink cabinet. I would definitely recommend it.
Review 12:The showers need to be lockable. Other than that, perfect!!
Review 13:Wonderful staff, very friendly and helpful. 10 minute walk into the old town Nice and quiet. Good bathroom facilities but showers didn't have locks!
Review 14:A lot of mosquitoes in the night-time! But when we closed the window, it became very hot in the room! Moreover, all beds in my room (room for girls only) creaked awfully with every movement and they were not the same as on pics here. In addition, in the evenings, when the terrace was closed, there was a bad smell in the kitchen area.
Review 15:Good breakfast and location
Review 16:No bad experience - just that there could be a couple more mirrors. There was only one by the sinks in a public area. I'd have liked one somewhere where I could be in private too. Or maybe a full-length one SOMEwhere? But not that much of a problem.
Review 17:Close to city centre (walking distance ten minutes). Friendly guy running it, tells of his adventures around the world. Good atmosphere in the hostel. Not busy. Easy-going breakfast, "help-yourself" style.
Review 18:The location of the hostel was really great, it was near the station as well as thr city center. The staff treated us kindly and gave us a lot of great tips and advice. It was great!
Review 19:Just the intenet didn't wok in all the place just in the common room.
Review 20:It was really clean and tidy, the staff was amiable and the whole place is really nice.
Review 21:The wi-fi can only be accessed through the common area.
Review 22:The experience overall was really good. It is a hostel, and we booked two rooms for us. The location is very close to the town centre. Showers were very clean as well. Great VFM
Review 23:As the weather was hot the rooms were hot as well, so had to keep the window open but that resulted in having an army of mosquitoes keeping us up all night. One other kind visitor had also taken the shared mosquito repellent from the reception, so it was a rather badly slept night for us. It really would be a good idea to install mosquito nets on the windows. Also the breakfast was rather poor: bread, cheese and some muesli. The juice was out by the time we got to breakfast which was 30 minutes after it started.
Review 24:Fairly quiet hostel a bit further from the historical centre.
Review 25:The Internet do not work on the rooms :( ... but it's perfect at the lobby... :)
Review 26:Location, breakfast, friendly staff's, facilities, bed... everything was great :)
Review 27:The wifi is terrible in the room. I have to go to the hallway or downstairs to get wifi.
Review 28:The guy working at the front desk is awesome. The room, bathroom and shower are super clean and comfortable.
Review 29:There is no hand soap at the sink, right by the toilet. I understand no towels but for hygienic reasons there should be soap.
Review 30:The owner and staff were very friendly and gave us some great information. The room was large and the shower facility was clean.
Review 31:Very very very expensive fir what is a hostel and un top if that they charge a city tax as well. We paid in Rotterdam same 5people for a family room for the night before coming to this hostel only €70 and this charged us €120. Not to point that was a 4star hotel in Rotterdam with own kitchen facilities! very disappointed to pay so much and to make our beds up by ourselves and also to remove the sheets and bring them to the laundry. The breakfast was very poor, served in very tired plates and cups with damages on them and markings from knife cuttings on the plate. In top of that they also put us to wash our own dishes pretending the dishwasher is broken down.... Who knows for how long they claim that! the dishes were washed in the same dirty water which filled the sink and poorly rinsed! We have got food poisoned from this hotel and kids had temperer for 3days after we returned home! No wander if the people before us washed the dishes by themselves the way we saw happening the morning we had to do it!
Review 32:Not much to like apart from the location and helpful advice on the town tour from the desk operator
Review 33:I did not realise that hostels allowed little kids. A family came into our room unexpectedly saying that they had our room at 10.30pm. I had to tell them that this was our room and they needed to go to reception. Reception obviously gave them the wrong key! They ended up next door and their child continually screamed and the family talked loudly until 12.30am. I think this hostel needs to analyse their policy on allowing which guests can stay...they are a 'hostel' after all!
Review 34:The location of this hotel was fantastic. We could easily walk in to the centre of town within an easy stroll of 10 minutes. The bathroom and showers were clean, the staff were pleasant and the rooms were clean and well kept.
Review 35:no towels and soap provided, wifi works only in common area, walking distance from train station is quite long
Review 36:Clean rooms with nice common area, equipped kitchen, breakfast included, close to downtown, knowledgeable and helpful staff
Review 37:Noisy on saturdays. Bathroom is just cleaned once a day. Keys got mixed up so we almost had a third person in our room.
Review 38:You can use the kitchen. Frindly staff.
Review 39:The top bunk didn't have a safety bar of some description, so I got a little worried that I might roll off the bed in my sleep!
Review 40:Yuri is an incredibly kind individual who will go out of his way to make sure you're comfortable and can make your way around Ghent. The location is good, they offer you breakfast, and the kitchenette provides all that most travellers need.
Review 41:Not applicable, didn't answer WiFi as I don't use it
Review 42:Warmth, cleanliness & helpfulness, offering information on Light Festival that was taking place in Ghent.
Review 43:Staff were busy, so we had to check in via phone with a borrowed mobile phone. The rooms and the bathrooms had a bad smell. The staff should have turned on our heating system, but they did not. We could not communicate with them because we did not have a Belgian phone number or roaming. They did not even had Whatsapp.
Review 44:Location was good.
Review 45:nothing basically. but you can only pay in cash and i had problems with cash machines.
Review 46:I arrived really late and even though I made so much inconvenience and trouble he was so kind and nice I felt so sorry. Thank you for everything.
Review 47:The whole hostel was clean and well looked after. Everything is also quite new and modern. The owner is very friendly and helpful and even let us have breakfast when we woke up too late :)
Review 48:I cant pay by card; that makes looking for a cash machine a necessary business; taking some time on foot: I miss the normal hostels fruit juice in the morning:
Review 49:I like about the welcoming feeling and open ear and mind You get from Joeri; his down to earth friendliness; The habbit of inviting for free once and a while; guests to taste a flemish dish on saturday evening;
Review 50:The duvets are old and therefore not as clean as I'd expect. The breakfast was basic and meagre. Having to spend time making and stripping the beds for myself and the children should be reflected in a lower price for families. A hard work's stay for 90 Euros.
Review 51:The beds were comfortable. The concierge is friendly. The annotated map provided gave us some great tips for our stay.
Review 52:Very friendly hostel owner who offered to drop me off at my bus stop and provided everything I needed for my stay! Close to the city centre and the castle!

Review 56:A very good place to stay for one night or more. A very friendly and accommodating host. Motorcyclists pleasantly greeted, because the owner of the hostel is also the rider and provides his own garage for machinery. A good location for walking to the center . I would recommend to others with pleasure. Jan Gdansk in Poland
Review 57:Location was remote, but was very close to the Metro system.
Review 58:The staff was very helpful, and provided useful information that allowed me to successfully begin my vacation. They directed me to bike shops that had the cycling equipment I needed.
Review 59:The host was very friendly and helpful. The hostel is closer to the station Ghent Dampoort than the main station. The double bed didn't make noise during my sleep. The blanket cover was tightly compressed, so you really need patience for find the opening to put the blanket in. Anyway, it was a very nice hostel to stay in.
