Reviews for Hotel Utama
Review 1:Nil.
Review 2:The staff are incredibly helpful in helping book tours and buses, the rooms are of top-standard cleanliness and comfort, hot showers, great WiFi throughout, free snacks, tea and water, amazing breakfast.
Review 3:Electrical shower was inconvenient, hard to control and sometimes off because of low water pressure. Breakfast was average. We asked for pick-up service from bus stop but they didn't reply. Hostal is located in a steep hill...don't carry heavy luggage. ;-) Manager and staff were not very supportive or pro-active.
Review 4:Nice view on town and lake. Cozy room with nice wall paintings. Silent location. Banana, candies and tea for free.
Review 5:The staff were super helpful and kind. Breakfast was delicious with pankakes, yoghurt, cerial, fruit salad, bread, egg, ham, cheese, marmelade, coffee, juice and té.
Review 6:Slightly more expensive than what we've been paying in Bolivia but overall worth the extra
Review 7:Great location just tucked out of town which meant great views across the lake and close to nearby La Culupa, great for food and relaxing. Shower was great and bed was incredibly comfy. Staff helpful and reception area very pretty with loungers to hang out on and enjoy free fruit, sweets and cold/hot drinks.
Review 8:The heater is controlled centrally by the receptionist and does only work between 6 and 10 pm. There is no hot water available during day times.
Review 9:Lovely breakfast and nice, helpful staff.
Review 10:Wifi is not that strong and can disconnect at times. The beds are not the comfiest I've ever slept in but wouldn't put me off booking!
Review 11:Spacious room and bathroom. Very clean and plenty of hot water.
Review 12:The location is on a steep hill side so it can be a hard clib if you have a lot baggage but they offer free pickup from plaza Sucre. The bathroom was tiny and water was either cold or burning. No WiFi in the rooms on second floor.
Review 13:The staff was super friendly. The room was stylish but basic.Great via from the lake on the second floor, deluxe room. Great breakfast!
Review 14:the pillows were rock hard. they quoted 20 bolivianos per kilo for laundry which was ridiculous (highest price we'd seen in all of South America).
Review 15:breakfast was great (especially the pancake!). around the clock availability of coca tea, bananas and popcorn. wifi worked well, though you sometimes had to switch networks. shower was always hot. easy walk (despite hill) into town.
Review 16:Wifi not great. Didn't work in room but did work in the lounge area. Showers were electric.
Review 17:Great location, nice staff, very secure, hot shower and really large as well as good breakfast. Excellent restaurant next door at Cupertino.
Review 18:I booked a superior twin room via booking.com. Under "room" facilities and highlights, it promised a lake view and a patio and terrace. Upon arrival they said the patio and terrace was for the entire hotel - not for the room. They had no rooms with a balcony. And there is also no lake view.
Review 19:Good Breakfast
Review 20:it's just enough water for one warm shower - the next one is a cold one or you have to wait some hours...
Review 21:very good breakfast, friendly stuff, great room and view over the lake
Review 22:11pm curfew, wifi didn't work well in room, location is up a steep street, shower too hot
Review 23:beautiful view of the lake, spectacular breakfast, large bed/room
Review 24:Location is up a huge Hill. (2 technically) and our heating wasn't very hot so we were cold. Shower very temperamental, couldn't control the level of heat really.
Review 25:Good, clean and large room. Staff very friendly and had luggage storage. Staff very knowledgeable and helped us booked our day trip to isla del sol. Great breakfast, fruit, eggs, yoghurt, jam, bread, etc. Better than most!!!!
Review 26:Nothing
Review 27:The room had a great view over the lake and was really spacious. We had no power the first day so could shower as they are electric. But I got sorted by the evening. Breakfast was really good and the wifi was also good but if it is not working it's because they turn it off.
Review 28:The shower was boiling hot, but i guess it's better that than cold shower :)
Review 29:Nice and helpful staff, varied and delicious breakfast, warm rooms, good location, good wifi
Review 30:No points.
Review 31:This hostel is huge for Copacabana standards. Not to mention that the decor is a matter over. For those who really care about this, being in this place is like being inside a Wes Anderson film. Amazing! The services are exceptional: A great breakfast with a great service. All extremely polite and helpful. Accommodations counted with a private bathroom. Our room had a large comfortable bed. The bathroom had even dryer. The shower was hot. Everything was extremely clean and organized. Wi-fi works everywhere from the hostel, including the rooms. Great location: Close to the center, restaurants and on the way to Calvary: one of the most stunning views you can have of Lake Titicaca. A good place to stay in Copacabana!
Review 32:Great hotel. All the staff were super helpful and very friendly. The bed was one of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in. The breakfast that was included in the room rate was delicious and you actually had a choice of food rather than the usual bread ham and cheese. The wifi was a bit slow but that seems to be the norm in copacabana.
Review 33:as everywhere in Bolivia be prepared it's very cold eg in breakfast room cooling down also your egg or pancake within seconds
Review 34:Very helpful staff / owner, fruits and coca tea for free, best breakfast we had in Bolivia, view on the lake from our room, hot (electric) shower, heater in the room (in the evening)
Review 35:We paid for a superior double but I don't think that's what we were in as I had a look at some other rooms. The water was not hot!
Review 36:Breakfast was terrific, room was comfortable and a heater was provided as well as enough bedding. Fresh drinking water always available along with snacks and sweets. Good views of lake from our room.
Review 37:The hostel is a little pricy for Bolivia, but regarding what they offer it is worth it.
Review 38:Very nice hostel only 3 min away from the main square. The rooms are cosy and you will find hot water 24h. Heating runs from 6 pm to 10 pm. WLAN is very fast and stable! We had our best breakfast here, they offer eggs, cornflakes, pancake, yogurt, bread, jam.... Coffee and tea are offered free of charge in the lobby the whole time!
Review 39:The room heating is warm, but not warm enough to keep far far away Copacabana's cold. Wifi is ok but the sign is not very strong. Even though it is located in a steep ascend, everything in the city is close by. Also, it only accepts cash, credit card not allowed.
Review 40:The hotel is simple and a bit comfortable. There are water and coca tea in the hall. The breakfast is delicious, with a wide range of food options, and the restaurant staff are very warm and helpful. A fair cost-benefit.
Review 41:Water is not hot enough (but that's common problem) and wifi wasn't working properly all the time.
Review 42:We spent 2 amazing days in this hotel, everything were great - the location of the hotel, service, cleanliness, beds were very comfy, breakfast was delicious with eggs, fruits, bread, jam and pancakes. The owners were very helpful, when we needed to see a doctor, they called him for us. The best hotel on our trip in Bolivia.
Review 43:The electric shower needed to have very little volume of water to be hot. The room was cold. Wifi did not work well. Surprisingly in the morning at breakfast, I was able to receive emails, but the previous day could not connect.
Review 44:Very nice room with a mural on the wall. Friendly helpful staff. Comfy chair in the room.
Review 45:Pretty cold in room - but you could ask for heating in the evening. Shower wasnt hot for us, but perhaps we didn't have the knack.
Review 46:Excellent breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff - we left most of our luggage for a two night trip to isla del sol.
Review 47:- Shower was flakey, good figure out how to get hot water - Heaters in room limited from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Review 48:- Best breakfast by far so far in South American hostels - Free tea, fruit and candy in the lobby - Comfortable beds
Review 49:Probably would have been better in the summer when the courtyard is uncovered. Also the bathrooms maybe could have been cleaner, but wasn't a huge issue for us.
Review 50:The view was fantastic and it was a short walk to the main strip. Breakfast was great.
Review 51:Chilly (and little space heater that is only useable during 4 hours at night is far from the bed and can't be moved).
Review 52:Clean, big room, nice snacks and tea available during the day, nice breakfast for South America
Review 53:WiFi doesn't really work in the rooms but is more a bolivian thing than an issue of this hotel
Review 54:Room was clean and with a very mice view on the lake, the location is convenient and close to a very good restaurant.
Review 55:Room was freezing - it was possible to turn on the heater but only after asking reception and it was only turned on between 6 and 10pm. Shower was not good either.
Review 56:Staff were friendly and view was good.
Review 57:Hot water was pretty warm but not quite hot! Better than uyuni though. Staff sometimes didn't speak English (e.g. when I rang them to ask about pickup from the coach) but most did, and it was good to practise Spanish anyway. Internet was almost unusably slow and unreliable, and turned off overnight. Apparently this is normal for copacabana. Breakfast is standard for Bolivian hostels, i.e. not great but better than nothing. Some dry beady things and sugary cereal with yoghurt.
Review 58:Helpful staff. Location is great: close to the main street, the coach arrival point, the shore and the lookout.
Review 59:We returned and got a room without a Lakeview which wasn't the same standard and was the same price.
Review 60:The breakfast was so good with such a wide variety in comparison to other similar priced places in Bolivia. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was clean and very comfortable. Everything is easily accessible. Nice location and good if you can ask for a lake view. Its well worth taking a trip to Isla del sol.
Review 61:VERY COLD. Heating is controlled by the reception and will only be turned on between 6pm and 10pm. Shower was cold. Mainly a problem because the room was also very cold in the morning.
Review 62:Decent breakfast, many options delivered to your table. It´s a very small township so location is good.
Review 63:didn´t get picked up as promised, staff (expect for one very nice lady) very lazy, unhelpful and unfriendly, short walk from the center in a rather dark street where you don´t want to walk with all your luggage at night, wifi turned off after 10pm, heaters only available until 10pm, not worth its (for Bolivian standards) relatively high price
Review 64:breakfast, clean
Review 65:We got the wrong room when we arrived, had paid for a better one but they wouldn´t let us switch. A lot of bad attitude from the people working there. No apologies. We were very frustrated. Also a very cold place to stay - heaters only possible to turn on in the evening, nothing after 10 pm. We slept with most of our clothes on. Bad service. A bit noisy.
Review 66:The breakfast was very nice compared to many other places.
Review 67:Location- close to all facilities- 10-15min walk max. But a bit uphill though. Staff was helpful, free tea+ coffee, fruits, and water- self service all day. Hotel was clean and tidy. Family run, I think.
Review 68:i was traveling with wife. We are not really comlient persons, but, the promises was: 1. Garden- where is it? We haven't found. 2. Free wi-fi - u have to ask every hour which network is working! At evening time it doesn't work at all! 3. We got a room which is Advanced with big bad , so the room haven't seen reprinting and repairing for 10 years! I really can't imagine what is going on in usual rooms if advanced so poor. 4. Inside hotel and in the room extremely cold, but for sure room has a heater, which a managed by administrator, we asked 3 times to switch on heater, but only after 3rd try they did it! But at 6 am it was switched off again!! 5. They promise free transfer from the bus station- we got only a gyde who was escorted us to the bus station, can u imagine when u with a heavy bags gonna up to the mountains... All city is placed on hills. 5.soundproofing - guys I swear I was hearing everything from another rooms even gas attacks. So take care guys.
Review 69:breakfast was good, that's all.
Review 70:The hotel is up the hill, quite tiring to get there. I think there might have been cheaper hotels in Copacabana, for instance some bus companies have partnerships with hotels and can offer deals upon arrival.
Review 71:Twin room with private bathroom is comfortable, with lake view as advertised. Wifi works well, even though it's off during the night. Breakfast is good, it works on an order basis so don't get there too late.
Review 72:Wifi was a little hit and miss but the internet in Copacabana is not ideal anyway.
Review 73:Great breakfast. Large rooms. Comfortable beds and new pillows. Really nice staff. Free snacks in the lobby.
Review 74:Hot water in the shower and wifi could be temperamental. Even when wifi was working, that and the heating was switched off at 10pm. Worth noting though that wifi across the area was poor, given its relatively remote location.
Review 75:We were travelling as a group of backpackers and this was one of the cheapest options we could find in the relatively expensive Copacabana, given the lack of hotels with shared dorm beds. Therefore we didn't have very high expectations. The twin rooms we had were a good size with lots of blankets provided for the cold nights. Rooms even had attached private bathrooms with shower and cable TV. Breakfast was also unexpectedly good. There was also complimentary sweets, fruit and tea during the day with board games like chess to keep people entertained. Excellent value for money all around.
Review 76:The shower is basic and not that hot and could have a bit more water pressure. As well the Wi-Fi in the rooms could be stronger. For us it was impossible to use it in the room.
Review 77:The staff was very friendly and helpful. Free tea and snacks for the guests in the mainhall. Very nice breakfast with eggs, pancakes, yoghurts, cereals. Not typical at all for Bolivian standards. The view on lake titicaca was very nice from our room from the second floor.
Review 78:A bit of a walk to town. Strange one tap shower system, hard to get flow and temp right.
Review 79:Nice hotel. Nice staff. We had view from room. Free coca tea and bananas. Free transfer to and from bus station.
Review 80:Wifi is bad, but that's just Bolivia. Copacabana is very small too, so don't expect much in that way.
Review 81:Location was two blocks off the Main Street. Beds were nice and warm. Breakfast was amazing. Only $30 a night for a private room and bathroom, was a treat for backpackers like ourselves.
Review 82:I got a bad case of food poisoning (not from the hotel), and on the day of check-out, overstayed the check-out deadline of 10.30am by 2 hours because I was very sick. They wanted to charge me a full night for this. Finally agreed to reduce it by half. The hotel was not anywhere near full.
Review 83:I had a beautiful room - ask for 208, corner room, fantastic view over the bay. Bed seemed new, very comfortable. Could just about pick up the internet signal whenever Wifi worked. Hot water in the shower. Breakfast is ok but a bit rigid - if you are a cheese or ham fan, don't be disappointed by the midget size slices you'll receive.
Review 84:The wifi was a bit slow but it seemed to be that way throughout all of Bolivia.
Review 85:We liked the hotel a lot - they even came to pick us up from the bus stop! The hotel felt clean and comfortable. Staff were great.
Review 86:none
Review 87:great breakfast. shower is just ok. clean. wifi is just ok, not super slow. location is on a hill so need to climb up and down to the main street or harbor.
Review 88:Ants in the bedroom and really hard pillows also wifi only worked intermittently.
Review 89:Great breakfast, spacious rooms and a pick up service to and from buses/boats.
Review 90:Wifi is poor in general in Copacabana, especially on the weekends.
Review 91:Good location, free bananas, coca tea and popcorn in lobby. Very expedient check in. Good ample breakfast
Review 92:Wifi was really poor. However hard to tell if this is the fault of the hotel or server. Internet in many parts of Bolivia was poor.
Review 93:Nice view of the lake. Good breakfast. Fruit and other snacks available in the lobby. To avoid the steep hill turn left when you exit and then your first or second right to reach the main square.
Review 94:There is no hot water in the sink and in the shower it is just a little bit warmer than the running water. Worse of all, the owner was not honest. Although I reseved a superior double room for us$ 30, he gave me a small room with no view. But only after I refused the room and told him that that room was worth only us$ 20 that he gave me the room for us$ 25.
Review 95:The bed was comfortable and the breakfast very good.
Review 96:the breakfast is great. Staff is friendly and the room we had , had amazing views. Ask the staff to turn the heater on though otherwise the room is freezing.
Review 97:Bad wifi, staff didn't seem very willing to help, asking them a question felt like you were interrupting their free time.
Review 98:The bed, the cleanliness, really hot shower
Review 99:Cold rooms, heater only on from 6-10 pm. Breakfast is ok, but unfortunately not buffet, so small portions.
Review 100:Friendly staff. Big room(507), with good view over Copacabana.
Review 101:not what we wxpected, this is not a 3 stars hotel its an alojamiento with cable tv i booked there because it wase the only available at booking for new years eve but once I got to Copacabana they were better and cheaper places available
Review 102:Staff was Kind and breakfast was good
Review 103:Poor Internet connection.
Review 104:The room is large with a lots of light with nice view. Complimentary mate de coca, candies and bananas any times. The breakfast was really nice !
Review 105:Nice room... some problems with tv connexion and wifi... but you're not in copacabana for that ! Breakfastbis very huge , free mate and bananas all the day. Far away frome the noise but so close to everything... maybe the staff has to look more often the mail because no answer to mine asking to pick me up at my arrival... but I recommend it to have a quiet journey
Review 106:Heat only for a few hours in the evening and only upon request. However blankets on bed were very warm. We booked a room with lake view but were given a room with rooftop more than lakeview even though others were available.
Review 107:Wi-Fi worked well in the lobby. Great breakfast, including eggs. Staff very responsive to any concerns. Hot water shower was a bit erratic.
Review 108:That steep hill up :)
Review 109:Even thought the hotel is very close from the bus stop, it was very lovely of them to pick us up as the hill where they are based is quite steep. The room was lovely decorated and very cozy. Everyone is friendly and helpful.
Review 110:Almost no hot water. Dark street Slow wi-fi
Review 111:free fruits(bananas), tea, candies for guests Bottle of water in the room Possible to buy tickets for excursion and bus Free transfer to the lake and bus "station" Breakfast: yougurt, eggs, juice, coffe, bread, butter
Review 112:Huge hill you have to walk up to get back to the hotel from town. Wifi only really worked from the lobby. Shower barely had any hot water.
Review 113:Nice staff. Breakfast is included. Ride to the lake is included with tours.
Review 114:We liked staying here. It's a clean place, especially the floors. The breakfast is great! They picked us up from the bus stop even tho we didn't ask for it. It's a short walk from the city, up a little hill, but we had a beautiful view over the lake from our room.
Review 115:A minbus picked me up when I arrived in Copacabana. They serve a very good breakfasty. Free water, fruit snacks. Very good views from the room. Very friendly staff.
Review 116:"hot" water wasn't really hot at all! Heat only from 6-10pm but this was enough to keep us warm - just make sure u tell them to turn it on for u at 6!
Review 117:Awesome breakfast, helpful staff, great view from room. Free water, coca tea, fruits and snacks at front. Provides free transfers to buses. Good price.
Review 118:bathroom lacks any space for putting your personal stuff
Review 119:The electric shower actually produced HOT water; the heating had to be turned on by a hotel employee but really heated the room. Really good breakfast. Fair USD/BOB exchange rate.
Review 120:The wifi is turned off at 10pm, all lights are switched of at 10pm, I was unable to pay the account for 2 days, I had to be at the desk at a certain time.
Review 121:It was close to the centre. Breakfast was ok.
Review 122:Room was really cold (+14C in the night) so we got sick. Poor gas heaters allowed for 4 hours only (6pm to 10pm)?!? Beds were really hard and pillows flat and uncomfortable. Wifi was very slow, and closed after 10pm?!? Electric shower heater did not work properly so the water was not really hot.
Review 123:Clean Free coca tee and fruits Decent breakfast
Review 124:staff has limited English and I had limited Spanish
Review 125:It is a few blocks away from the bus station. My wife and I were picked up so that saved us walking up the hill. The hotel is spacious. It has a very big lobby and there is an unlimited supply of tea, coffee, oranges and bananas. Our room was clean, very spacious - maybe because it was a corner room and very bright. Breakfast was served and was great.
Review 126:The shower only had one tap, so was a bit too hot at times! Not a bad complaint in Copacabana though. Some TV channels were fuzzy. Can't think of anything else, I recommend this hotel
Review 127:Great view of the lake from my window. Great breakfast - eggs, pancake, coffee, juice, yoghurt, bread, jam, butter... couldn't finish it! Free water and bananas at all times. Wifi decent for Copacabana, based on reviews of other hotels. Friendly staff. Shower was hot, again not always the case in Copa.
Review 128:- cold room (common in this area) - bathroom can be better and water hotter
Review 129:- very good breakfast - comfortable bed - free fruit and tea - free pickup from bus station (we did not specified when we will arrive)
Review 130:Rainy weather. Nothing to do with the hostal
Review 131:Very friendly stuff. Good location. Good shower. Very good breakfast. Free storage. Free coffee ,tea, fruits and candies.
Review 132:The wifi works only till 10pm, but even at 9 it was impossible to browse anything, I could't even open Google.
Review 133:It's a nice and comfortable place to stay with a nice view of the lake, especially during the sunset, very close to the main touristic road, but the city is small so I guess any road will be small. The rooms even have the heating, which you can turn on if you are cold, but it was very warm inside and we didn't need it.
Review 134:Spacious rooms, decor and facilities. Very good management team , all very helpful with info and bookings. Only a 3 block walk to the market and Cathedral.
Review 135:The wifi was a little patchy, but I think this is probably the case for everywhere in town.
Review 136:Nice hotel with clean and comfortable rooms. Friendly staff. Great breakfast! A few blocks from the main street, which means it's easy to get a good night´s sleep.
Review 137:The shower was too hot or too cold, up the hill from everything.
Review 138:Very clean, awesome breakfast, free fruit tea and water all day, stored our luggage for 3 days while we were away. Lovely stuff
Review 139:Toilets were unsanitary and stunk. Showers were ridiculous with only one tap for both hot and cold. Not enough hot water for a decent shower. Rooms were heated for only a few hours and not all night. Neighbors were allowed to drink and party loudly and then woke us up at 3 a.m. with loud conversation.
Review 140:Location was central yet quiet on hill away from center of town. Breakfast was generous and staff were polite and friendly.
Review 141:It can get really cold. Room has a dodgy gas heater wich only can operated by the staf. Wifi not reliable but thats the case in whole South-America. Shower not warm
Review 142:Good value for money. It was clean and near the towncenter. Breakfast was good. Free bananas!
