Reviews for Finlen Hotel and Motor Inn
Review 1:The bed sheets were filled with static. The rooms were cold, despite using a space heater.
Review 2:The staff was warm and welcoming. The location was convenient. Free parking and 24 hour service were appreciated.
Review 3:Didnt like the attitude of the woman behind the desk. She was watching internet tv, didnt turn it off when i arrived, was not friendly when my husband asked her some reasonable questions about breakfast. Not a great first human impression for a great old historic hotel. However, the room was great and clean.
Review 4:Love the old building and the location. Room was clean. A little pricey. But overall had a good experience.
Review 5:The motor inn portion was sub-par, below Motel 6 standards. We upgraded to the hotel proper, and it wasn't much better. A property that passed its prime in the '50's and has been going downhill---along with Butte---since the Berkley Pit closed.
Review 6:Nothing. No breakfast. No cafe'.
Review 7:Their website shows their beautiful old hotel and lovely lobby, but nearly everyone gets placed in a room in an old detached 2 story 1960's cinder block hotel because nearly all of the historic hotel rooms have been converted to apartments. A bit deceptive in my opinion. Also, 2 different front desk staff are too busy with their paperwork to even look at you when checking in and again when checking out, creating the impression that they are completely indifferent to your patronage.
Review 8:Convenient parking in downtown and close to the mine.
Review 9:Pretty much everything else. The motor hotel portion was dingy and extremely basic. Expected more given the reviews we saw. Maybe this place has nicer rooms elsewhere, but the parts we saw were acceptable at best.
Review 10:It was clean
Review 11:Hotel lounge did not seem to be open for very long, and there is not much else in the area except for boarded up buildings and novelty shops. I remember 1 other bar and no casinos.
Review 12:Price is reasonable for being in a downtown historic district, and they are very prompt at returning emails--definitely a helpful staff. And Trimbo's Pizza is nearby, the best east coast pizza & calzone I've had in the west!
Review 13:No open restaurant or bar in hotel.Very low value for money. In booking, there is not definition of choice.Between standard and deluxe room.So you dont know what is hotel or Motor in.
Review 14:Nice old building and view from some rooms.
Review 15:Very clean - but you have to book a superior room, to get a room in the main building.Quiet and a friendly staff. And very rare: style. The place ist awesome, like a trip in the architectural past of Butte. But the rooms are modern.
Review 16:Nothing--it was all good.
Review 17:This historic hotel is beautifully maintained and thoughtfully updated. Comfortable beds, WIFI and Cable. Fridge, microwave and bar sink in second bedroom. We booked a 2 bed room and got two bedrooms! Coffee and tea in the lobby. Immaculate. Convenient parking. Great price. Would love to stay again.
Review 18:The rooms were made of cinder block. Consequently, I could hear every cough, fart, and moan, in the room next to me. In addition, I could hear everything that happened in the street, sidewalks and parking lot. Needless to say, I did not get a good nights sleep. I complained about the poor accommodations at the front desk and there was little concern or empathy to make things right.
Review 19:Hated it from the moment I entered the smoke filled lobby
Review 20:The advertisement for the room showed a picture of a classy, old, downtown building. The room we were given was in the motor inn, next door. There was no parking, so we had to park across the street next to a bar. There was a wedding reception going on, so there was no parking, it was noisy, and the wedding guests were everywhere.
Review 21:The room was really clean.
Review 22:The architecture and interior decor was spectacular! Well preserved and unique. The room was huge and comfortable. The location is fantastic! There is no place like this!
Review 23:The person at the desk was not very friendly....the rooms in the "motor lodge" part were a bit noisy...could hear the neighbors talking and walking about.
Review 24:The hotel was pretty and clean
Review 25:The hotel was very clean and the architecture with it being a historical landmark was beautiful. The room was very roomy with one and a half baths and the Queen beds in separate rooms. We were a party of three--mom, daughter, and aunt--and we all loved it!
Review 26:Parking is hard to get and you may have to park on the street.
Review 27:I enjoy staying in character hotels and the Finlen is full of that. It is a wonderful old hotel and the staff were terrific and upgraded me to a HUGE suite after a problem with my reservation. Highly recommend if you are interested in historical buildings and non chain accomodations.
Review 28:Older wiring scheme-had to turn on a switch for the TV to have power.g
Review 29:Location is in a historic area. Good eating is close by. Short walk to historic Berkeley open pit copper mine.
Review 30:Air Conditioning in room was loud but otherwise the room was very quiet.
Review 31:Historic Hotel where John F Kennedy and many others have stayed. On the top of the hill and easy locate and to get to. Only two floors are for hotel guests, top floors are renters.
Review 32:This hotel is a throwback to another era in a town full of similar buildings. It has been kept up beautifully. Spring for the extra $12 to stay in the main hotel instead of the adjacent motor inn.
Review 33:bar was closed with a gone fishing sign. Rooms are small but its an old hotel.
Review 34:location is around nice options for entertainment and food. Cool old hotel with character.
Review 35:I would have preferred to be in the older part of the hotel and we were placed in the Motor Inn. When checking in we were not given an option and when I made my reservation I was anticipating being in the original building.
Review 36:Location was uptown. All the decent restaurants were downtown. The most exciting thing was the Berkeley Pit??? Known for it's copper mining but just a big working mining facility. Hotel was old, old and not very comfy.
Review 37:Nothing
Review 38:WiFi was slowing in the evening until about 10pm, then it worked well. Parking is limited and a bit tight for larger vehicles. Halls have energy efficient lights that are a bit dim, especially on the stairs.
Review 39:Good front desk staff and helpful suggestions for breakfast. Nice basic room with a smaller bathroom - everything was very clean. The ceiling fans were very quiet and all we needed to keep the room cool! A/C was in the window too. Elevators (2) worked well and we enjoyed our stay.
Review 40:Booking.com did not adequately explain the option for potential guests to choose between the recreated "old, historic" hotel or the uninspiring motel. No food on site.
Review 41:Average accommodations.
Review 42:Our room was on the corner of the hotel and next to a builder's yard, which burst noisily into operation at about 7.00am.
Review 43:The experience of staying in this hotel with its grand ballroom, mezzanine and displays of memorabilia. Large room and no noise from inside the hotel. Excellent location. Coffee available in the lobby.
Review 44:Ambience! Beautiful lobby & friendly efficient check- in. Clean & smoke-free! We would love to come back to Butte & explore the charming town! We would definetely stay here again!
Review 45:The bed needs updating; saggy springs and uneven mattress. The room was large enough to accommodate a comfortable sitting chair, which it lacked. Otherwise a very pleasant room.
Review 46:The building is stunning and well-maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. Loved the view of old downtown buildings. Price was reasonable.
Review 47:If I had known exactly what I was getting for my $78 I probably wouldn't have stayed here. I stayed in the Motor Lodge, not the Hotel. It turns out there's an enormous difference! Be careful when you book.
Review 48:The only thing I liked was the price. I got one night for $78.
Review 49:Rackety bathroom fan that came on with the light. Outdated furnishings. Bathroom door was awkward, blocking the toilet. Over priced for what you receive.
Review 50:Room was clean.
Review 51:Rooms on the West side of historic hotel were subjected to much loud street noise (the bar on the corner) at times into early morning hours. Sometimes until 3am.
Review 52:Staff very accommodating and helpful in helping me change my room to a quieter one on the East side of the historic hotel.
Review 53:It was a Saturday night and outside there was a lot of very loud partying going on ( a nearby tavern? noise continued until 2:00am. I needed to have window open a crack as room was very warm due to steam heat even with valve shut off. No in room coffee.
Review 54:Hotel and room were sparkling clean. Staff was very friendly.Lobby was elegant. Room was as described small, clean and comfortable, very basic.
Review 55:Thought I was going to be staying in an old historic hotel, was put in a motor hotel that looks like it was attached in the 60s. The furniture is from that era. The equivalent of a 10 or 20 year old motel 6.
Review 56:There was a place to sleep and shower
Review 57:I did not appreciate the staff of 4 different women that were all rude and curt except for one housekeeper. I did not get any of their names, but they are all unacceptable to be front desk staff working at this hotel.
Review 58:I loved the location, the building, the history, the furnishings, the cleanliness and the Cavalier Lounge; as well as easy access to ice, vending and free coffee in the lobby.
Review 59:The area in the late afternoon was troublesome as we got a lot of stares. Noticed there are mental clinics and outreach programs all around it.
Review 60:Liked history and grand foyer. The Uptown restaurant across the street was fabulous and inexpensive. Great to have free parking.
Review 61:Our room was actually in the motor inn side of the property, not the actual hotel. Might have gone somewhere else had we known this. Early morning (4 am) truck traffic was not so pleasant. Sounded like the city garbage collection day. Being that portion of the building was concrete block did little to mute the noise.
Review 62:We liked the historic portion of the hotel and it's location. We enjoyed seeing photos around the lobby of its notable past.
Review 63:Heater is a 100 year old boiler for the whole building so it takes some time to get used to. However, the staff brought us a heater so we were very warm.
Review 64:Great historical town and hotel. Very comfortable room and helpful staff. No services but nice restaurants close by.
Review 65:I made the reservation thinking I was going to stay IN the Finlen. NOT in a motel/hotel outside of the building. You need to make sure folks realize that when they make reservation. Very disappointed and kind of put a damper on our weekend.
Review 66:There is a bar in the hotel but no dining, but there are several good eating options within a block or two. Heating in the rooms is old-fashioned with steam heat. If you can turn a knob and open a window, you can control the temperature. These are observations, not criticisms.
Review 67:The Finlen Hotel is a wonderful building and the rooms are quite comfortable. Compared with "modern" lodging, it is really quiet. The ambiance is part of the value, and prices are very reasonable.
Review 68:Motor lodge is attached. Booking thru Internet service ps u only in motor lodge w/o warming. I had to pay extra to get into main bldg.
Review 69:History all around you.
Review 70:The furnishings are not modern, if not having black out blinds is an issue this may not be the place for you. Also the lower floor rooms are subject to city noise
Review 71:Historic hotel that has been well maintained in the Uptown area of Butte. Close to historic sites ,stores, restaurants and bars.
Review 72:location was across the street from a bar. Our three night stay resulted in one good night's sleep and two relatively poor night's sleep due to very noisy drunken people activity on the street below our room which was three stories above street level.
Review 73:convenient downtown location and cleanliness of room. Close to restaurants and attractions.
Review 74:The lack of parking was a pain, but we dealt with it.
Review 75:The mix of historic decor and modern conveniences is pulled off nicely here. The staff was great, even advising us on a great restaurant. Definitely worth a second stay.
Review 76:No breakfast facilities, but we found a really interesting diner round the corner..the BS cafe.
Review 77:Everything. Staying in the main hotel with its art deco features and history. We had a fantastic room for a very reasonable price !
Review 78:best views of historic uptown Butte!
Review 79:The old downtown Butte charm. It has so much history. Love to go to the Hennessy Market just 2 blocks for the Finlen.
Review 80:No hot water in the bath in the morning and pull out bed was the worst i've eve encountered even for a pull out bed
Review 81:The room was nice
Review 82:Great place to stay. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Walking distance to great food and beverage businesses. Friendly staff.
Review 83:The hotel had an old-style charm.
Review 84:lighting
Review 85:loction
Review 86:The lighting in the rooms could be better.
Review 87:The historic facility.
Review 88:Hotel is very tired and needs a huge overhaul.
Review 89:location
Review 90:Nothing, will book again.
Review 91:Motel room nice, more space than main building rooms...
Review 92:Hotel Finlen is a historic property that has been revitalized into a nice place to stay.

Review 105:convenience
Review 106:We stayed out in the motor inn. The lobby was beautiful. The room was small but cozy.
Review 107:No bad experiences
Review 108:The historical and unique architecture.
Review 109:The hotel has been refurbished to its original beauty. The appointments and room were excellent. The lobby is pristine.
Review 110:Not enough parking space. Bed is too small for two people.
Review 111:Bed uncomfortable
Review 112:very clean, and quite. large rooms.
Review 113:The"Period Charm" of the rooms & building
Review 114:Only problem, no breakfast. Even if it were only pastries it would have been awesome.all that was offered was coffee.
Review 115:The location was perfect, and we actually enjoyed staying in a 1950's motor court -- was very nostalgic for us
Review 116:Could use a fridge, but ice available was nice
Review 117:Good value. Parking outside door. Good wifi.
Review 118:great updated room which preserves historical charm great staff
Review 119:The room was clean and quiet. A nice place to stay after a long day of travel. Nice location if you like to take a walk after a good meal.
Review 120:The motor inn was old, exterior was run down, parking lot was small, and in a poor location.
Review 121:It was clean.
Review 122:Great check in, great room, great price. Historic hotel that deserves your patronage
