Reviews for Orchid Hibiscus Guest House

Review 1:Great location, nice and quiet and still close (maybe 10 minutes or so by bike, they hire them very cheap) to the Historical Park. Excellent breakfast and wonderful swimming pool. Good rooms with comfortable beds (although al little Thai so pretty firm) and super friendly staff.

Review 2:3% surcharge when paying with visa; breakfast; you can easily understand what your neighbours are saying in the room next door; airco not lower than 25°, and some other dull rules; bathroom was just dirty if you looked a bit more thoroughly...; at 5 in the morning some annoying folk music started, not sure where it came from (2 nights in a row);

Review 3:cheap and a 15 mins walk to the wintour bus station, and 30 to the central park area; bike rental for 50bht a day;

Review 4:Nothing comes to mind

Review 5:The grounds, the birds, the pool all made this paradise on earth. The owners and staff made us feel more like family than guests. My favourite spot in Thailand

Review 6:nothing

Review 7:close to the historical site by bike (5-10min). possible to rent bikes directly from the place (40b). Nice pool and excellent breakfast. Very Quiet place.

Review 8:The garden is fantastic, the rooms are so cute! You have a little terrace where you can listen to all the sounds of birds and crickets in the night! and the best breakfast yet on our trip! We only stayed one night, but if I had known how great this place was I would at least stay 2 nights!

Review 9:Bike rental is on my wishlist for this place.

Review 10:Peaceful and clean bungalows with swimming pool and helpful staff. Good value, good location. You can access all major sights by foot.

Review 11:I had a quite unfriendly welcome from the owner his Thai son who accused me of “being delayed”. Obviously he had drunk alcohol. The nightporter who was supposed to receive me that evening, didn`t speak any word english, couldn`t find my room. The older rooms show signs of tear and wear on the outside.

Review 12:Lovely garden setting, nice pool, decent restaurant, very personal attention of the Italian owner. Tasty fantasy breakfast.

Review 13:I wanted to pay by card and they wanted to charge 3%. The Thai Thai Sukhothai guesthouse just around the corner don't charge anything .extra for payment by card . Shower didn't work and water was cold . Air con was noisy Room was right next to a cage full of parrots so was not happy about being woken up by parrots at crack of dawn . I guess that's a rant.

Review 14:It needs to be noted this was not my first choice . My first choice was fully booked so as I only needed a bed for a few hours I booked this . It was clean enough . Staff were nice and friendly . Checking in at 10pm and leaving at 8am so I only needed a bed and for that purpose it was fine

Review 15:bathtroom needs renovation, the shower was leaking 24 hours and nobody seems to take care of it. Basic breakfast is maybe ok for tourists (not for expats or Thai people) and for once, not 3 days the same. No TV and refrigerator on the room. Rooms are very dark. Breakfast till 9h is very early finished , we had to wake-up early especially for the breakfast.

Review 16:nice swimming pool and garden, Location is ok if You like to walk 1Km. to the historical parc and restaurants. Friendly owner.

Review 17:Walking to the main Wat locations is fine, but not as close as you mightthink when looking at a map - in hindsight I should have hired a bike. The staff were friendly and helpful but in a slightly shouty andoverbearing fashion with check-in being swift but a touch over eager(maybe the 3 hr drive I had just made resulted in me not being in themood for enforced cheeriness). The 'incredible' breakfastisn't incredible, it is fine and has a single nice touch (which Iwon't spoil here) and is fine for the price, but incredible itain't - maybe they change the breakfasts day to day and I had thebudget day (I only stayed the one night). I like a hard bed but here, asmentioned in previous comments, they are in a league of their own. Therooms are starting to get a bit care worn. Quite aggressive signage inthe rooms (you break, you pay; no air con below 25 degrees etc. etc. -yet they have an honesty bar - peculiar)

Review 18:Everything was kind of ok. Nice to stay in your own wooden shack. Wellkept grounds. The recommendations of what to see in and around the oldtown were very helpful. Honesty bar.

Review 19:You can't have dinner there, so you will have to look for a place, and there is not much to choose nearby...

Review 20:The stay was fantastic. The swimming pool is big enough to swim, the place is well decorated. The staff was attentive and the breakfast was the best I have had in Thailand so far.

Review 21:Coming to the bus terminal by bus from the north or south, makes that you appear in new sukhothai, and going to old sukhothai, where the attractions are is 14 kilometers

Review 22:Awesome local breakfast, great place with flowers, plants, birds, jacuzzi, swimming pool, everything you need for a great stay

Review 23:The standard of the room was much lower then the standard of the beautiful complex with garden and pool. Only a dim lamp on the ceiling, very little space, small window, definitely not four stars.

Review 24:Nice ambience and extremely helpful and friendly staff. A swimming pool, a dream of tropical garden, very individual design of the buildings and the details of the breakfast room and garden. Very good breakfast. And very near to the historical park of old Soukhothai-

Review 25:Not a good choice of restaurants within walking distance but I was only there for 2 days so it didn't matter that much. You might need to go into New Sukhothai for more choice.

Review 26:Loved the location. Pool facility. Lovely room. Beautiful gardens. Slept very well. No TV in my room which I liked. The lady who ran the place was extremely polite and helpful. I highly recommend the Cycling Suthothai tour if you have limited time as you will get an excellent overview of the area and the historical park.

Review 27:the whole is nice but would do with some work, a bit of paint, a good cleaning to get rid of cobwebs and mousedroppings in the corners... broken tiles in the pool, crumbling wooden sunbeds... the owner is very strict, at 12pm he trows you out, no matter when your flight leaves, he calls you a taxi to go, quite impolite about it too, same tone as the signs in the room "our rules" very rude.

Review 28:nice quiet location not too far from historic parc, oppulent gardens

Review 29:The bed was really hard, bathroom needs renovation.

Review 30:Great Location, only 10 min by bike to the Historical Park Sukhothai. Bike rental next to the Hotel. Nice Pool area, nice rooms with air con.

Review 31:The Thai manager was very very rude Infact agreesive. The bed sheets were dirty the bed very incomfortable. Location also poor as we were told we had to walk 1km to nearest restaurant.

Review 32:Pool looked nice

Review 33:The beds in thailand are generally quite hard and this was no exception

Review 34:Paolo was a very amenable host and gave us lots of tips about what to see. The swimming pool and gardens were lovely and there was a very relaxed feel about the place, very welcome after you've been pedalling around the ruins in the heat.

Review 35:The owner has a huge ego and is rude. Staff can't really speak English. Breakfast is a joke. Beds uncomfortable, room was a bit dirty.

Review 36:Good location, bike rental across the street. Cool swimming pool area.

Review 37:Very aggressive & rude young Thai staff member.

Review 38:Pool was a big plus and the breakfast was exceptionally good. Very nice gardens and surrounds. Italian owner very friendly and warm.

Review 39:The cardinal sin for an hotel is to supply an uncomfortable bed and at the Orchid, I had about the worst one I ever had. I read, as you will, the reviews below mentioning the hard bed. I thought that tjhey were from wusses used to sleep on soft featherbeds while I prefer a firm bed, so I chanced it,much to my regret. It was like trying to sleep on a billiard table or a sheet of plywood. The only way I could get some sleep, as I was alone, is by folding the comforter in two ans sleeping over it. I complained the next day and they installe a sort of textured mattress in the middle of thebed over the plywood. I still used the folded comforter as asecurity. If you choose to stay there, ask that they fix thge bed fiorst. But I would frogo the pool ans stay at the much more comnfortable and modern B&B in the neigborhood. The breakfast is very average, with plain white bread but the coffee is good. The little square of coconut pudding served with bananas and wild honey is amusing but noit the gastronomic expérience that Paolo the owner seems to think it is.

Review 40:The only reasons to recommend this hotel are the location, the great pool, the garden and the OK price. As for the rest, the rooms are small, dark, porly lit, oudated by 2 or 3 decades, worn out and ultimately depressing.

Review 41:Beds rather hard!

Review 42:Location very handy, breakfast very nice, very peaceful and quiet but also friendly and beautiful gardens and pool to relax in the hot part of the day. Lots of advice and handy bicycle hire close by. Rooms set I ed and cleaned daily. Easy to do laundry and expresso coffee and cold drinks available.

Review 43:Nothing

Review 44:Everything. The room was fantastic. Amazing bed, amazing furniture, every single detail contributes to the beauty of the place. The room are in little bungalows located in a wonderful garden. The breakfast is delicious, the swimming pool is really pleasant after a cycling day in the historical park. Last but not least, the owner Paolo and the rest of the staff are very nice, friendly and always ready to give super advice! I would go back there anytime.

Review 45:The shower only had lukewarm water.

Review 46:The pool was nice and the rooms were cute. Having a mosquito net was a nice bonus. The breakfast was really good. The staff were pretty helpful in giving information about the old city when we first arrived.

Review 47:bed very hard to sleep! Pool not very clean, laundry facility poor, washing machine old was leaving furry bits on clothes and when tried to wash by hand found a very dirty unusable sink!

Review 48:nice bungalow, great garden, good breakfast, helpful staff, close to go to center with bikes

Review 49:It is very close to the old town. We had so much fun with local transportation style, Skylab. Breakfast is very unique and healthy style. Facility is incredibly clean. Overall compare with price that I paid are excellent.

Review 50:In the garden there are a lot of birds that start singing at 6 am and make it almost impossible to keep sleeping.

Review 51:Position, in Old City near the park. Garden and swimmimgpool are great The rooms are cute bungalows. All the staff speak English or Italian.

Review 52:Took the mattress off the bed and slept on the bed board , it was softer!!!!

Review 53:Facilities are great and the owner speaks all languages is very helpful and knowledgeable had a good stay.Breakfast was excellant with the wild honey and banana

Review 54:It is very close to the temples (main reason to visit sukhotai) so we could walk to there! The owner Paolo is a great host and a funny guy, he will present you every morning with a great and traditional breakfast :) They have a swimming pool that's perfect to refresh after a day walking in the sun or to wake you up in the morning!!

Review 55:The hardest bed we have ever slept on---not much different from the bamboo mat on a wooden floor we slept on while trekking in Chiang Dao.

Review 56:This is a pleasant oasis, with a pool and lush grounds a short bike ride from the historic parks (bikes are 50 baht per day). Very relaxing---until you have to face a very, very hard bed. Relaxing by day, torture at night.

Review 57:The beds are quite hard and there is no coffee maker in the room.

Review 58:The pool and the grounds are great and the overall atmosphere is relaxing. The staff/owners are helpful and very knowledgeable about the area.

Review 59:The bed ! We stayed in a standard room maybe the cottages have better beds? The towels were ready for the rag bag.

Review 60:The pool was refreshing , helpful owner with sightseeing suggestions, could do a load of washing too. Resort is set in lovely gardens. Breakfast was good.

Review 61:The paths were slippery when wet. The resort has no restaurant, though there is a good one a couple of hundred metres walk away.

Review 62:The owner was extremely helpful and arranged pickups for us to visit the local historic site. The pool was pleasant, the breakfasts really good.

Review 63:Room service at weird/annoying times (8 a.m.), pool water was green and not even see-through (but not smelly or anything), breakfast only from 7-9 a.m., pretty hard beds, rooms kind of dark

Review 64:huge breakfast, bike rental across the street, nice staff, big rooms, nice gardens, not too far from main road + historical park (~10 mins), free water every morning, regularly cleaned, pool + whirlpool, free wi-fi all over property

Review 65:The pool had a very green colour. Rooms are dark (but traditional Thai which is a plus). The beds in our and other rooms need replacing as they are extremely hard. I compare with our hotel in chaing Mai and then have to say we have a lot more luxury in chaing Mai for the same price.

Review 66:Location is very good especially with bike. It's just out the old town and thus very calm. The breakfast was plenty and delicious. You have a porch to sit. The staff was very friendly although the nightwatch does not speak a single word of English.

Review 67:The pool needed to have been better maintained.

Review 68:The staff were fantastic, the grounds surrounding the accommodation was wonderful, all kinds of plants in a great garden setting and a really nice breakfast

Review 69:Breakfast is original and genuine

Review 70:no sound insulation between rooms

Review 71:beautiful environment: a small bird zoo, close to the historical park, close to a good restaurant

Review 72:Room, pool, garden, good restaurant (Sukhtai Kitchen) at 100m.

Review 73:great location, amazing breakfast and very nice staff

Review 74:Pool

Review 75:The Bed no fridge no TV too many holes in the mosquito net basic breakfast

Review 76:Location

Review 77:nothing !

Review 78:Paolo and the staff, so nice and available to help and lake it a very pleasant time ! The breakfast us incrédibible !!!

Review 79:Pleasant staff, exellent breakfast and peaceful setting.

Review 80:the best place to stay

Review 81:Bed was really hard, I mean really hard!

Review 82:Beautiful gardens, pool and plenty of places to chill out. Great breakfast and staff!

Review 83:Great pool, lovely traditional style accommodation, very close to historical park

Review 84:hard bed as everywhere in Thailand

Review 85:the small details

Review 86:that I couldn't stay longer!

Review 87:everything. It was an adventure. The rooms are very satisyfing.

Review 88:Everything

Review 89:room was nice and large Breakfast was nice Pool was nice

Review 90:Twice cockroach found in bathroom which were really big...

Review 91:Pool and breakfast are great. Bungalows in Thai style look nice.

Review 92:- rooms look a bit rundown

Review 93:- Nice garden with birds - Good Location

Review 94:Not much around. The closest shops are 15 minutes away on foot.

Review 95:bungalows with full facilities, air-conditioned, close to Sukhothai old city.

Review 96:Very unfriendly boss and staff hard bett

Review 97:Pool near ruines breakfast

Review 98:The bed was too hard.

Review 99:Staff were very helpfully and the owner is a great character.

Review 100:No nice resaurants and no dinner in the hotel

Review 101:Swimmingpool Garden

Review 102:Location,no informations from the staff

Review 103:Nature

Review 104:This was our favorite place to stay in all of Thailand. The whole staff was extremely courteous and helpful and the place is absolutely beautiful and yet so inexpensive. I couldn't recommend it enough.

Review 105:1.That the check-in closed at 7 PM and that was informed after the booking process as a footnote. 2. No minibar or pool facing room though promised in confirmation. 3. No electric kettle in room to make tea beyond the 2 hours breakfast slot. 4. Aggressive rudeness of one of the male staff though later smoothened by the friendly owner.

Review 106:The owner's knowledge and attention to details. Tasteful ambience. Interesting breakfast though some variety for longer stay guests will be welcome.

Review 107:A lot of geckos including one living in our bathroom, was the worse night in Thailand until now. The bathroom smelled like pee. Western owner not friendly at all.

Review 108:They have a nice garden and swimming pool. The Thai guy working there was friendly. Nice breakfast.

Review 109:Lovely bungalows located just minutes away from the old city of sukhothai (a supermarket and restaurants are not far away). The owner and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are built in wooden houses with a small terrace. All is decorated with a lot of love and attention for detail. The bungalows are surrounded by a beautiful and huge garden. Bikes can be rented just across the street. After a long day biking through the ruins of Sukhothai, you can enjoy a relaxing evening at the pool. The breakfast was particularly recommendable. One of the best guest houses we had during our trip to Thailand.

Review 110:The wifi didn't work; the staff were not particularly helpful referring me to an IT Shop when there was clearly a universal problem that needed to be solved. "Sorry, it's not working at the moment", would have been better.

Review 111:Breakfasts were good - nice local touches that I didn't get anywhere else. Inexpensive stay. Good value for money. Landlord gave very helpful, albeit rapid, tourist advice. He was amusingly eccentric. Proximity to bike hire - just across the road. A short ride from a Thai restaurant.

Review 112:Paolo was a wonderful, friendly host, and quite the polyglot. He gave very helpful sightseeing tips and talked about his time in Sukhothai. The place is very pretty and has a charming, relaxed air. It's really great to be within walking distance to the UNESCO site.

Review 113:if there was one thing to complain about, it would have to be the bed, they are really hard. However, i don't feel like my sleep was negatively effected to much, but a softer bed would have been nicer.

Review 114:Everything about The Orchid was as expected, or better. But for sure Paolo and his staff made our stay just that much more enjoyable...oh and the pool was absolutely awesome as well.

Review 115:Obscure rooms with almost no light. No fridge in the room. Italian who shouts and curses at his personnel. Strange atmosphere during breakfast as a consequence. Guests smile a little bit about this but sometimes it is embarrising.

Review 116:Nice garden. Great breakfast

Review 117:Everything! Like staying in a filthy shed! No glass in the windows meant that you were in the dark as you could not open the shutters for the heat. Room dirty, the mosie nets badly needed a wash, grubby towels and old mended sheets.the 'fabulous' breakfast was a fried egg and toast, poor value for money and some of us did not appreciate having to have loud opera on during breakfast. The décor is not 'quirky' but tatty and dated. Run by a man with illusions of grandeur. Avoid at all costs you can do much better for your money else where.

Review 118:The location was good for accessing the Historical Park

Review 119:Like staying in a filthy shed. Bed very uncomfortable, tatty sheets and grubby towels. No glass in the windows so no view (shutters up all the time...heat. Room not cleaned each day. So called fabulous breakfast was a fried egg and toast which had to be eaten to opera. Very overpriced. The so called quirky décor is just tatty and dated. Glad to leave. Staff not helpful.

Review 120:The location was good

Review 121:- The man managing the hotel is a completly disrespectful and rude person. I arrived Sukkhotai earlier than hotel check-in time so this guy told us to come back later. At that point I needed to check with him just a simple question on how to arrive the next day to Phitsanoluk, answering this question would have supposed 30 sec to him, but instead of answering, he turned his back on me denying the respònse and saying come back again at check in time. This really got me angry, it is unacceptable for someone giving a service to a customer as it is managing a hotel. - The staff does not speak english.

Review 122:20-25 minutes walking from Sukkhotaui historical park.

Review 123:The Best place I've stayed during my trip in Thaïland. This Guest House is amazing. Paolo did great things with the piece of land he has. As for the "Incredible Breakfact" you'll love it ! the Guest House is very close from Sukhothai Historical Park.

Review 124:Beds were very firm, but hey, that's Thailand.

Review 125:Paolo, the owner was unbelievably helpful and interesting. Breakfast was great, as were the beautiful rooms where we stayed. Bicycle rental across the street was easy and cheap, and it was wonderful to come back after a hot afternoon at the historic park to jump in the swimming pool. Also, the setting of the bungalows in the extensive gardens was enchanting.

Review 126:The place is 20-30 min walk away from the Ancient City that after having done it for couple of days, becomes annoying. There is no restaurant in the guest house and only one near by that we wouldn't recommend though.

Review 127:Very peaceful place, created with enormous desire and lots of time invested; every detail is thought to ensure guests' comfort. The breakfast and the way it is served is exceptional.

Review 128:Beautiful place where to stay. The bungalows are very nice and garden and pool are also very nice. We liked the originality of the place and also the owner's one, an italian man who have been living there for many years. Breakfast was very good. When we left thet called a tuk tuk to bring us to the bus station so it's easy to go everywhere from there. I recommend it

Review 129:mattress are very strong, don't have refrigerator on room

Review 130:near old city, staff are great, garden are beautifull, with bird breakfast is very good. location are near old city Sukothai..

Review 131:The staff doesn't speak English very well. Although it is close to the park, it is a long walking distance from the city, but there are restaurants very close to the park.

Review 132:This guesthouse is a very pleasant place. Cosy room, nice pool and a wonderful garden. The breakfast is very good. It's very close to the historical park and there's a bike rental right in front of the guesthouse. The owner was very attentive, with many suggestions.

The Fine Print
