Reviews for The Clay Hotel
Review 1:There was not an elevator, which was inconvenient with heavy suitcases. The bed and pillows were not very comfortable, they were probably old. The breakfast could have been better.
Review 2:The location was excellent, just at the Espanola way. By showing our key card we got a nice discount at the closest restaurants.
Review 3:I asked a room at the quite part of the hotel. Little did I know they put me a block away at an older building that was being renovated, so we had construction noise. Check in was ok, the bellboy was friendly, the guy at breakfast was not, he was acting like a prison guard asking for our breakfastvouchers. The room smelled. We needed towels and had to wait 1 hour. The room smelled odd. I remember my dog having the same smell. I bought an airfreshner at walgreens to eliminate the smell. The room was nothing like the pictures. For almost $200 a night, I expected better.
Review 4:The location. We could walk to any place in the neighbourhood. The 15% discount at some restaurants was a good bargain. The restaurants at walking distance and walgreens were convenient. Just what we needed, me having pregnancy cravings.
Review 5:It was our second stay in this hotel and definitely worse than the previous one. Avoid room no 101 which faces the loud street and is located right above the restaurant entrance. Moreover, during our stay, the hotel was under renovation works. Our room was right next to the construction works so the drillers woke us up at 7 am. We tried to change the room for a different one but the rude staff members told us that the hotel was fully booked (what occured to be untruth). We luckily switch the room next day. I have no idea how they could accommodate anyone in the room like that without any previous notice about all those inconveniences.
Review 6:The localization is good, close to many shops, nightlife and beach, however, Espanola Way is very noisy till late night.
Review 7:The hotel was under renovation, smelled strongly of paint or other construction stuff.. Was noisy and way too expensive for what it was.!!! I'd never recommend it or stay there again. The "included breakfast" was about two blocks away and too crowded with only three toasters that were slow and not enough for people there. The doors to room 114 had locks that were very loose and unsafe. Keys had to be redone every day and could see the corridor about one inch around both doors!! The staff did come and try to tighten the door latches but they need complete replacement to be safe!! I've never been to Miami Beach before and the Hotel was so disappointing I won't go back.
Review 8:The people who worked there were friendly and fairly helpful and the beds and bathrooms were clean.
Review 9:Breakfast was a bit poor and far too crowdy! It's very hard to find a good place to eat around the Hotel.
Review 10:freshly renovated rooms are fine; Close to beach, party-zone and art-deco
Review 11:Española Way is very noisy, and lights coming in from the street very bright at night. Our room was in a separate building 1.5 blocks from the hotel office, so that helped some. The street is pretty and a really touristy destination. Free breakfasts were meh. Unless you're on a tight budget, don't bother. We ate freshly baked croissants and delicious cappuccino at the French cafe next door. Tourist restaurants on Espanola Way are overpriced-- be sure to note that 15% gratuity is already included so you don't double-tip.
Review 12:Rooms were clean and comfortable, desk staff friendly and helpful. Nice, quiet, French cafe next door.
Review 13:Buffet breakfast a big disappointment. No real choice, first two days of our visit, milk was out of date and curdled, two days no milk available, another no fruit or cereals. Only one choice each day of croissant, bagel, or bread on a revolving three day cycle. No blinds in the room so we slept in a well lit room for our duration. (Room 19).
Review 14:Room a good size . Cleaners and breakfast staff very good, although they had to put up with a lot of agrivation due to guests constant complaints about quality of breakfast. Management need to step in and take control to improve. We had to check out early for personal reasons and the management were extremely accommodating making a refund of the remaining days which we were extremely grateful for. A pleasant experience, and would stay again.
Review 15:The location is ideal, but it can be a bit noisy because the proximity of Espanola way. Breakfast was ok, but we would have gladly paid extra for a better breakfast if it was available.
Review 16:The location was perfect, the staff very helpful and friendly and the room spotless. I would recommend The Clay to my friends/family
Review 17:Unable to open window for fresh air. The room became stuffy as we didnt use the air conditioning. The breakfast can improve. It need not be fancy but by addind something as simple as hot milk or boiled eggs would make it lot better. Everyday I felt like I was starting my day with all packaged food and nothing fresh except the fruits.
Review 18:The location was excellent with lively atmosphere all around and restaurants. Short walk from the beach. Most staff encounters were pleasant
Review 19:This hotel has only a reception area where you check in and then you have to walk through / pass a few restaurants and up a flight of stairs to get to your room. No help was offered with suitcases. The room and corridor had a bad smell.( like mould and cigarette smoke) . The breakfast was terrible. We wanted to collect our bags at 11.53. Our doors was already blocked and we were charged an extra $12.50 for checking out after 12. The manager was extremely rude. We showed him that all our cell phones and watches and even the clock in the room say that it was not 12 yet. He admitted that there was a terrible smell, but did not even apologize. Don't let this nice location fool you to stay in this hotel.
Review 20:If u have allot of luggage like us ask for a room on ground floor as we were on 2nd floor but stair narrow and steep
Review 21:Location was fantastic and free breakfast was great value too
Review 22:No bad experiences but beware of the steps and no elevator for carrying your suitcases.
Review 23:Perfect location at the corner of Espanoza way and washington st with all the restaurants and boutiques. Breakfast was small but adequate. 2 blocks from the beach.
Review 24:The location was perfect! Many restaurants right out the front door and it's a short walk to the beach. Staff was very friendly and the hotel was clean. It has all the amenities we needed. We will be back the next time we are in Miami!
Review 25:Slight smell of damp in the hotel, but I've experienced this at other Miami hotels too, so put it down to older buildings & sea air.
Review 26:Lovely quaint, boutique hotel. Amazing location for the price we paid. Check in staff couldn't have been any more helpful.
Review 27:Window air conditioner in room I was in had a rattle, squeak problem that worsened during my 3 day stay, which disrupted my sleep throughout the night. Very hard to be aware and energetic for business when you haven't gotten enough rest.
Review 28:Great location. Excellent double room layout. Convenient coffee maker, microwave, fridge.
Review 29:smell so bad and my cloths got impregnated with that smell. The facilities are asking for improvements!!! specially the corridors of the rooms. the rooms are clean, the bathrooms seems to be upgraded, yet the one who designed it has no idea to do it. really uncomfortable. It supposed that I get 15% discount in the restaurants. Some of them came with a strange excuse for not to provide it.
Review 30:location
Review 31:The location is amazing, we had a really nice room with a great balcony view of the street below. The room was a really good size, and we didn't realise breakfast was included, which was greatly appreciated. The staff are what made it great though. At reception, if they didn't know the answer to the questions we had, they called people who did. Amazing.
Review 32:Hotel is situated over several buildings, we had quite a walk to ours, the room was on the 2nd floor & there isn't an elevator. Breakfast is served to you in a cardboard box.
Review 33:Good location.
Review 34:Everything was okeeeee.
Review 35:I liked the location of the hotel the room so confortable good facilities staffmembers were kind to us. Always ready to serve.
Review 36:Very OLD hotel. No elevators. If you have heavy luggage and you get a room on the 3rd floor....you are screwed.Bathrooms were poorly stocked. Walls are paper thin. It's expensive!
Review 37:Comfortable bed and good location.
Review 38:Very noisy particular if at the front or a room overlooking Espanyola Way. No pool.
Review 39:Ideal location, two blocks from beach. Wifi very good. Clean rooms. The very first and very last episodes of Miami Vice were filmed here.
Review 40:Didn't like the smell in the rooms. After three daysmyclothes that werein the bag stinks like this hotel
Review 41:Location is very good. Rooms also are ok, except the smell
Review 42:We had a room a block down from reception which was tiny. But at the same time it was a away from the noise our friends were suffering from being above reception and therefore all the outdoor dining noise and music. Didn't like the look of their boxed breakfast just because of the throw away mentality of it. So went across the road for a yummie Cuban breakfast instead. No bedside table lamp.
Review 43:The location is brilliant for Miami beach if you do not want to pay for a beach front stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Easy to get to on the airport flyer which costs next to nothing. The location of our room a blcok down from recepetion meant being away from all of the noise.
Review 44:Expensive, as all hotels in Miami Beach.
Review 45:Excellent location (a few steps from SpñolaWay), big and confortable room. Very clean. Desk reception really kind.
Review 46:Rooms are rather small, but this was not a problem for a 4-day trip. Breakfast till 9AM and not a lot of options to choose from.
Review 47:5 minute walk to the beach. Nice and quiet room, especially given the busy location. A lot of restaurants/cafes/shops nearby.
Review 48:No laundry or laundry serviced offered!!! Hotel cud make money on offering this service!!!
Review 49:We had an awesome time at the clay...staff were friendly, welcoming and eager to please...rooms newly renovated and done up and spotless... Breakfast good and easy at cafe down the way, stairs but no big deal for us...wud book a lower level if u dislike them, close to beach, restaurants, shopping 10mins walk away...taxi to airport $35....taxis to other parts of Miami cheap! Loved our trip to sunny Miami and wud love to come back and repeat our whole experience!!!!!
Review 50:Could be awkward for people with poor mobility as there were lots of steps and no lifts
Review 51:Friendly staff / great location / the hotel had character and authenticity
Review 52:To get to our room (bc I req a quiet room), we had to go thru a locked gate that lead to a courtyard with a gate on the opposite side that backed up to an alley/school, then up some stairs, and thru another locked door. I would not recommend this for a single female and even two. A couple times the gate in the back was propped open. The area was safe & we didn't run into anyone suspicious, but it still made me feel uneasy. The bed was very small, but the room was as well. So, if a big bed/room is important to you, this may not be the hotel for you.
Review 53:I enjoyed this hotel. It is an aged building, but it seems like they updated it as best they could. Decently clean. Front desk was nice with info/reqs. The location was great, and we were put in the quiet bld, away from the restaurants, but still very close. For the price, it was a good deal.
Review 54:In the morning we had no hot water for showers. Light sleepers take note: Lot's of other guests coming and going through the night. Also, thin walls so you hear other folks in their rooms and the plumbing each time a toilet is flushed.
Review 55:Location is great. Continental Breakfast is good.
Review 56:Annex accomodion room needing aired although room was clean. Could be a problem with stairs although staff very helpful with taking luggage up and down stairs. Breakfast time chaotic - room not big enough!
Review 57:Location good and can see in process of doing renovations to make it better.
Review 58:We were the room right by the stairs so when other guests entered the door would slam so loud ,woke us up a few times.
Review 59:Loved the balcony ! Such a cute little location
Review 60:BREAKFAST ROOM DOOR SECURITY
Review 61:Great location, right in the middle of Miami Beach in Espagnola Way. Few minutes to the from beach and Oceam road and few minutes from Lincol Rd Malls. Breakfast was the biggest let down very basic with no fruits :-( Room security not great we found our door open few times.
Review 62:We loved our rooms!!! And we would like when we stop again on our way back to Argentina, to have the same rooms, please! It was rooms 351 and 305. Thank you!!
Review 63:We loved the location!! They gave us a very nice souvenir towel. The breakfast was an easy simple idea that we enjoyed. Very clean, we would stay again!
Review 64:Bed smell of the carpet in our building, a part from this our stay was absolutely perfect
Review 65:Perfect location in the cozy espanola way, very close to the beach and the shopping area of lincoln avenue
Review 66:False advertising, they dont tell you that they put in a block 3 /4 blocks away from hotel, in an horrible set up, breakfast in a box is a joke, it is basically just a room with a very small bathroom. Very basic set up
Review 67:Box breakfast was edible, but nothing to enjoy.
Review 68:Staff was friendly and helpful in every way. The place is super charming and in a fun neighborhood full of restaurants, night clubs, boutiques, cafes etc, only 3 blocks from the beach.
Review 69:I paid taxes of sejour in cash to the girl at arrival as requested and they added once more the taxes of sejour in invoicing the hotel. s room ! I recommend to all guest not to pay anything in cash ...
Review 70:Clean
Review 71:Breakfast was weak, rooms are a little small.
Review 72:Location of the hotel was great, Espanola Way is a great place with nice restaurants. Decoration of the hotel is unique.
Review 73:No elevator.
Review 74:Very kind and helpful staff, excellent location (the bars were just below the hotel; two blocks from the beach; restaurants and markets just on the street), good room size, good breakfast.
Review 75:Breakfast was great - variety and very helpful friendly hostess; 2 blocks to the beach; beautiful architecture in surrounding area; Espanola Way/restaurants and shops; convenience and beauty of area. HBO/cable was nice too. Everyone was friendly and helpful and nice.
Review 76:Breakfast could have at least an additional choice of boiled egg, ham or cheese. You have to know that you have to walk the stars up with your luggage and shopping bags because there is no elevator
Review 77:Location, Friendly
Review 78:Our room was faced to espanola way street and above the spanish resturant, it was difficult to sleep at the weekend with too much noice and live music from the resturants and bars. The corridor smell a bit, I think it is from humidity.
Review 79:10 min walking to the beach, nice hotel will old and historical building, great location, helpful staff. The price is good compared to other hotels in that area. Vallet parking is available for 19$ per night but the vallet is there till midnight.
Review 80:a bit smell in the hallway, but we suppose it is just old building odour
Review 81:we loved location, it is just on Espanola Way and there is really to great to have dinner and watch place around and feel great atmosfere...bed was really comfi, breakfast was just ok for young couple, but still nothing like breakfasts in European hotels...alltogether we loved it there and we would come back....if you want to have quiet room, you have to ask during your booking....
Review 82:They were in the middle of some refurbishment.
Review 83:Although not in the main 'strip', the hotel is in the heart of the Art Deco area, and the food outlets and restaurant by the hotel are amazing! It is an older building, so don't expect a shiny modern glitzy place. It is though true to the Art Deco tradition. We loved it
Review 84:They changed the breakfast to a box breakfast when it used to be an actual cooked breakfast in the past. This was very unexpected and not pleasing. This time we were in the main building and had to walk up 4 flights of stairs which was very tiring. The building is out-dated and needs to be remodeled.
Review 85:This was our second time staying at The Clay Hotel. The staff is always pleasant and eager to assist. Check-in and Check-out process very smooth.
Review 86:Breakfast in different location, it was more like lunchbox, but for breakfast :)
Review 87:Great location if you like to be in the city center, near Espagnola Way, but you need to realise that it gets very loud at night. Room OK but very small, comfy beds, helpful staff.
Review 88:Breakfast is served in another building in small lunch-boxes, with no choice and variety. Smell of Mexican restaurant at the level 0 coming up on the stairs.
Review 89:Staff vey helpful. Location central, directly on Espanola way. Since we had a late flight at evening they gave us the opportunity to use a bathroom to take a shower and prepare, after check-out.
Review 90:I didnt like walking up the stairs so much..especially after partying the night away
Review 91:I love the beds so comfortable!!!! I sleep so well. Clean bathrooms!!
Review 92:No elevator, so not really for senior.
Review 93:Excellent location, 5mins walk to South Beach. Very quite, nice and clean. Close to grocery store and restaurants.
Review 94:Breakfast was a picnic box, great idea for beach goers. Offered only croissant and cereal bar but endless supply of coffee/tea
Review 95:Very quirkey hotel, spread over four different buildings. Staff told us original building was from 1915,reception area and stain glasses ceiling originals. Staff lovely, so friendly. Location excellent, right on Espanola, Spanish/ Cuban restaurants and 2 blocks from Collins Avenue And Oean drive
Review 96:Breakfast was in a local cafe, and everyone was given a box with some bread and fruit. No choice. OK, and again quirky, but it would have been nice if this was stated. We expected a self service buffet.
Review 97:Right in the hub of things, next to Espanola Way. Historic, Quirky. A bit different. Not your typical Hilton/Holiday Inn. Absolutely Wonderful. We stayed one night before a cruise. We returned after the cruise and they very kindly let us store our luggage for the day, and let us all have showers before our flight home. All complimentary. Very much appreciated. Excellent Service
Review 98:perfect location to walk anywhere. Staff very nice. Room was small but immaculate and comfortable. Our request for a quiet room was honored. Great first experience with Miami Beach.
Review 99:Our air conditioning unit kept leaking which gave the room an unpleasant smell.
Review 100:Great hotel in a perfect location! Staff were so friendly and ready to answer any questions. The free breakfast provided was extremely good and set you up for the hot Miami day. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here!
Review 101:The wifi in the rooms 300 kept coming and going. Other than that everything was very recommendable
Review 102:The staff were so helpful and friendly. I left a gift package there by mistake and they sent it on to me immediately. They helped me organise the shuttle bus to the airport, and although I had a day at the beach after checking out, I was able to use a shower with a towel and shampoo / soap provided. They also made me aware of where I could eat with a discount. The location in Española way and near the beach is ideal.
Review 103:Breakfast does not do good to your facilities. Carton box with one bagel yoghort little drink banana and coffee. Do it better or leave it. The room is too small for all the guests
Review 104:No pool or outside terrace/communal space.
Review 105:The location was amazing. Espanola way is a great place with restaurants and a good atmosphere. Only a five minute wakk to ocean drive.
Review 106:it was not a BAD experience, but i would hoe for more people to help at the hotel...They are seriously under-served. Also, i made an early reservation, and requested a room w/one or two balconies. i did not get any balcony. i would have been willing to stay in an un-renovated room in order to have a balcony, or two...
Review 107:I love the location, and the architecture of the hotel. However, they do not have enough staff, and since there are no elevators, in any of the three bldgs, one is going to need a bell-boy. They definitely need to get ice machines on each floor. Currently, if one wants ice, one has to scour the bars nearby, w/a 6' plastic cup in tow...
Review 108:I love the area ...
Review 109:My say was great. The food at the resterant is very tasty. The area around the hotel is beautiful , great place to stay. Will come again
Review 110:one must say that they have scary hallways in the top floor well just a little bit. No cameras are there unlike the other floor but at least each floor has controlled access as far as my room is concerned, it has ugly red window drapes and very confined space between the bed and the kitchenette which turned out to be a microwave on the top of a refrigerator. But i checked the other standard room when the door was open and it looked quite better than mine. The refrigerator was noisy the first night but when you ll be tired of walking and the sun you won't hear a thing. And it will turn out to be quite functional for keeping bananas and water fresh. I didn't like much the scent in the hallways but everything is clean and doors are obviously remodeled with nice handles equipped with electronic access.
Review 111:nice cute little continental breakfast in a nice restaurant next to the hotel (fes restaurant): (banana, yogurt, juice or bread, ) clean restroom and bed sheets (very white) and no dust sensitivity experienced nice white medium quality towels (by medium i mean it s not ritz carlton's luxury style but quite thick) natural shampoo/conditioner/body gel set with nice scent great value for the price especially considering the location that 's 2 blocks from lincoln avenue and the beach jose was very nice and professional.
Review 112:It's an older hotel with noisy wall air conditioning units.
Review 113:Great location, two rooms joined by an open "kitchen" hallway in our queen deluxe room. Plenty of room for our family of four. Continental breakfast down the street was nice.
Review 114:The rooms were in a separate annexe with no lift - we had a member of our party with a bad foot so he really struggled up the stairs - there were no alternative rooms available. Breakfast was very disappointing.
Review 115:The staff were particularly friendly and helpful.
Review 116:easy to find, close to everything, very kind staff, everything renovated, low temp of hallways, great bathroom, comfortable big bed, very soft rug, all appliances, our room (563) was on the 2nd floor in the backyard looking over education centre - quiet, two windows (it was july and we used AC really rare), good breakfast. Definitely RECOMMENDED!!! we'll come back :-)
Review 117:Some of the restaurants that were offered by the hotel as a discount weren't satisfactory but that is all.
Review 118:Location, neighborhood, activity, most restaurants, exactly what we were looking for.
Review 119:Breakfast system was a bit weird - dolling out boxed meals kind let down the overall experience. Perfectly edible, though...
Review 120:Right in the middle of the buzzing centre of South Beach, yet seemed very soundproofed. Very clean and smart inside.
Review 121:breakfeast included in package, finishes at 9 in the morning, I wasn't told, second morning I was told breakfast is a block and a half away. A. Time and location of breakfast needs to be advised. B. Miami caters for late night adventure so why does breakfast cease at 9.
Review 122:Location
Review 123:The room was infested with roaches! After the first night, I tried to find another hotel to stay in, however, they booked, so I couldn't leave. My last night there, I choose to check out earlier and stay at the airport, instead. The roaches were too fierce!
Review 124:The staff was very accommodating
Review 125:Breakfast "served" as lunch boxes was kind of downgrading thequality of the hotel. The room for two persons was so tiny that one ofthe luggages had to be placed in the bathroom. There was no place on thefloor for two luggages.
Review 126:The location, just two blocks from the beach and plenty of restaurantsaround the hotel. Nice and very helpful Staff. The historic character ofthe building complex ist perfectly maintained, making it a charmingplace. The rooms even if extremely small (!), have a lovely "boutique" character.
Review 127:nothing bad, I thought you had first floor rooms, but we worked our
Review 128:Was located in the Art Deco district. Easy trip to baseball park. Loved all the different places places eat.
Review 129:The Clay Hotel did not have elevators! My mother has had a knee replacement and fell going up the stairs. She was bleeding and we couldn't get any help from the staff. My husband called an ambulance and we got her to the ER. She ended up having a broken shoulder. Not one staff member came to check on her once we got back to the hotel or when we checked out the next day.
Review 130:The only bad thing was $20 a day valet parking. The only other parking garage is located 2 blocks away. However, you’re in Miami there are several other means of transportation. The hotels valet parking was extremely fast though, it took about 10 minutes to get your car.
Review 131:The Clay Hotel’s location is amazing! There are several restaurants and clubs located within walking distance. Española Way is located right beneath the hotel and has hookah, cigars, shopping and multiple restaurants. The beach is about a 5-minute walk and Ocean Drive is right around the corner. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and the maids were awesome about straightening up our rooms. My room was located right above Española Way and the room was completely sound proof! This is a great location and great deal. I would definitely stay there again! Also, my group ages ranged from 24-30 years old. We had a blast!
Review 132:Nothing. This hotel was amazing!
Review 133:This was the cutest hotel ever! My friend and I planned a last minute trip to Miami for a few days and this is just what we needed. The staff was super nice, and the room was beatiful. The location is AMAZING! It's right by the beach and on the main strip on south beach! At night Espanola way is so beautiful! I definitely recommend eating at O Mexico, it's located on the premises
Review 134:Was on the 3rd floor with no elevator. The shower had no pressure. No a/c in the hallways. My closet is bigger than the room we were in. The breakfast was ridiculous. will never stay here again.
Review 135:near the beach
Review 136:Nothing negative to say about the hotel in general, if I were to think about one would be that the breakfast could have been a little fresher or personal rather than the pre packed boxes.
Review 137:Pretty much everthing
Review 138:Breakfast is poor. I mean really poor.
Review 139:Location is just in two blocks from Ocean Drive - very convenient. Nice and friendly personnel, very clean and tidy room, new bed and bathroom.
