Reviews for Hotel Vredehof
Review 1:We made them aware 4 times that the heating wasn't working and they said they would sort it.Had very cold night could not sleep, room was at top of house in roof room so very COLD. Have has experience that as you only pay deposit you pay at end stay as you prefere although they hold your card number they only put it through at end of stay. When I arrived I was told it had already been paid taken out my card. This I think is wrong. Especially as I had problem I could not request some refund . We were 1 person down as my brother in law was taken ill. No refund as I paid for breakfast. Will not be staying again. No information in bed rooms.
Review 2:Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and nice dining room.
Review 3:Lovely and beautiful location. Beautiful period house. It's a short easy drive from Bruges. Only criticism was the heating in the room was from the plug in heaters. But once they were on it was lovely and warm in there.
Review 4:The couple who own this hotel are so very friendly and helpful and are genuinely engaging people. The building is charming, quirky, with high ceilings and ornate decoration. Discreet classical music plays most of the time unless the small bar is open for Trappist beers in the evening. (You have been warned). Breakfast is taken in an old, tall glass conservatory looking out onto the English style garden. If you're looking for designer chic then look elsewhere, if you like character and patina in a hotel then this is for you. We were at the end of a two week motorcycle trip and we had pre-booked for three nights. We arrived at the hotel on the Wednesday having dropped the bike that afternoon and damaging my boyfriend's leg. He stayed in bed the following day and we agreed that I'd carry on and see Bruges. The restaurant isn't normally open during August, but they invited him to have lunch as there was a specially arranged booking for an old customer and the food was superb. On the Friday they drove us to the hospital to get the leg checked out, where we discovered that he had in fact fractured his Fibula, and not just sprained an ankle. We were flown home on the Saturday care of our travel insurance but the bike stayed parked in their courtyard until it was collected for repatriation. It had been suggested that they would have kept it safe until my boyfriend was fit enough to return to collect it. We will definitely be back
Review 5:Brugge is a very lovely town, simple wonderful. It`s worth it to visit for the weekend. The seaside is also great. If I would travel once again, I would book either next to the sea (Zeebrugge, Blankenberge De Haann) or in the city center. This accomodation is about min by car from the city center of Brugge.
Review 6:The breakfasts were excellent and they provided them early in order to fit in with our plans. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. Our hosts also provided a three course evening meal for us though this was not part of the original package.
Review 7:It was a bit dusty in the room. There was extra blanket and pillows in the closet but could not use it because they were sitting in dust so me personally could just not use it.
Review 8:The house style, a typicall Belgian house which I find very nice, very romantic and cute. The staff is very friendly and there is 24h reception and is quite close to the city and in between the hotel and city you can find supermakets and all kind of shops.
Review 9:The staff is not nice welcoming and helpful. We had problems with dirty upper blanket in two different rooms and they didn't do Nothing. The dinner is server until 8:30 for almost a lot people too early! Please attention a bottle of water 6€!!
Review 10:The hotel is an old country house. Could be very nice hotel, but is badly maintainance.
Review 11:These are the facts: 1. I booked three rooms. 2.On arrival we were offered two rooms ( two keys) 3. One room was a family room with a shared bathroom and an adjoining door 4. We are not a family and this was entirely inappropriate. There was no apology for this. 5. Neither you nor the hotel tried to advise us of this change 6. The Hotel had overbooked and we we made to feel as if somehow this was our fault 7.At check in we were offered a discount on the room 130 euros as opposed to 190 euros. 8. it was late and we relucantly accepted this offer despite the awkwardness of the situation vis a vis the family room.I made it clear that had a choice I would have found an alternate hotel 9. At checkout the aforementioned discount was not applied and there was in my view an attempt to camouflage this by adding up the total on the bill incorrectly ( the bill did show the discount) 10. I queried the maths and at that point I was told the discount didn't apply because we had the correct number of beds. ( the logic of this argument is that the hotel could rip out all the walls and stick everyone in on giant dormitory with a communal bathroom and charge everyone for a single room). 11. I had to argue for the discount and in the end this was reluctantly and very ungraciously accepted with complaints that they had still had to pay you a fee and once again stating that they were overbooked and implying that this was somehow my problem. This left a very poor taste in the mouth. The accommodation was not as booked via you and the hotel attitude was appalling. I travel and stay in hotels around the world and extensively in the UK and in my experience , regardless of culture, this was the worst mismanaged episode I have ever encountered.
Review 12:Nice building Good breakfast Easy to find Near Bus stop
Review 13:Heater didn't work well. After been fixed for 10 mins, it stopped working again...Freeeeeezing night with my boyfriend...
Review 14:Location is good, building is lovely, all staff are friendly and helpful (we got a car problem and the owner helped to solve it! Thanks very much!!).
Review 15:old rooms with old furniture cold room at our arrival staff never present at diner time since they work at the same time on the restaurant price too high for the offered service
Review 16:location is good (and calm) if you have a car
Review 17:With the inconveniences of an old House, extrange distribution, and antique decoration. But the toilet is new, so that it's a positive point.
Review 18:The Hotel is a old House located close to Brujjes, it's easy to find, and it have a good parking. The personnel is very polite, and room is confortable.
Review 19:Many guests and even the staff smoke in the open rooms in the evening - despite a non-smoker label on the front door - so that the entire hotel smells like a opium den. you can smell the smoke in the rooms, too. For those who don't mind it's a fabulous place.
Review 20:Beautiful breakfast room in an old winter garden presenting a lovely view in the garden.
Review 21:Shower door could have been a tighter fit. But small problem.
Review 22:Tucked away outside Brugge but with a bus stop and an hourly service to the town centre. Very quiet at night. There was a small friendly restaurant and an excellent breakfast in a lovely old breakfast room. The building was old and quirky a true family ru business they have been going strong for 25 years. Also a pleasant area for walking and cycling not too far from Damme.
Review 23:Great for a driving vacation, would have been perfect to bring ourbikes! Close to Bruges and the beach. Our stay was short, but would havebeen a great vacation if you had one day to go to the beach, one fullday to go to Bruges, and one full day to go on long bike rides. Cutebreakfast area with nice European breakfast (meats, cheeses, bread).
Review 24:Martin and Darlene the owners were wonderful people
Review 25:Nice owners with great intrest for oldtimers
Review 26:Big rooms comfy bed and not far from bruge and at great price
Review 27:Steep stairs to bedrooms.
Review 28:Clean comfy bed. Good choice and freshly prepared breakfast.
Review 29:Style of house
Review 30:Friendly staff. Lovely hotel - huge room and beautiful furniture. Twenty five euros from hotel to city centre.
Review 31:The style of the interior, nice breakfast
Review 32:The room is very lovely. Breakfast is rich.
Review 33:A good range of breakfast choice but was spoilt by the scrambled and bacon being cold, even being one of the first down in the morning.
Review 34:Overall a reasonable hotel set in this quirky 1830s house, set in a good location for Brugge and nearby Sluis in Holland. Would highly recommend for a weekend getaway.
Review 35:They have to change their TVs and ad a satellite TV facilities.
Review 36:The owner is a great helpful guy who sees to the guests comfort. He tries to give the best service possible. The hotel is comfortable, clean, nice and very well located for visiting Brugge or going towards the see side as well as to Holland. We recommend it definitely.
Review 37:The bus to Brugge stopped running at 11 had to stop drinking a little early
Review 38:our hosts were great, looked after us really well, the house and decor are stunning, breakfast excellant,we will be back as soon as we can, thank you both from Mike and Elaine cyclists from Hull Yorkshire
Review 39:some things in the hotel, i.e. wallpaper is torn out. some areas of the hotel need to be better taken care of.
Review 40:style of rooms! the hotel, furniture and everything are antics and remind you of a different era! really beautiful! travels you back in time!
Review 41:The pictures on the website did not match the descriptions of the room we would be getting. It also noted children were free of charge when using existing beds, but because of their mistake we were given two twin beds and therefore the children couldn't sleep with us so the charged us €30 extra for an extra bed when this was their mistake. They should have waived the fee to be more accommodating. The staff was horrible and rude and made no efforts to accommodate us or apologize even though their information was incorrect. They insulted our children for being too loud but one of the reasons we booked is because they said they loved children. It was not that our kids were being loud it is that the building is hundreds of years old and you can hear every creek and movement by anyone and the walls were extremely thin and everything could be heard! I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. I do not want anyone to have to go through what we went through. We ended up NOT staying here and after asking for a refund and calling booking we were told NO. We lost out on a lot of money but I am so glad we left and found another place to stay.
Review 42:HATED IT!
Review 43:tiny staircase, not for disabled. We were given twin beds which were not very comfortable. No info in room, tiny TV. Needs a bit of Updating TLC.
Review 44:Quirky hotel, good breakfast. Lots to look at.
Review 45:The only downside is its location, we knew where it was situated before hand. Taxis seem hard to come by in Bruge. The bus was excellent.
Review 46:Lady who owned it was very pleasant, we had a great breakfast, there was free internet and the rooms were well appointed.
Review 47:Everything was excellent. The Owners were very friendly. Not far from Brugge by car. The breakfast was delightful, lunch - amazing ( not including ).
Review 48:only down point was smoking in the bar , if you smoke however that may be a plus point.
Review 49:Excellent staff very friendly , fantastic breakfast nothing was to much trouble and a great choice. Room was clean and tidy with good facilities, free internet was available at no extra cost . I certainly would stay again
Review 50:The flies in the breakfast room! On 2 out of 3 mornings there were quite a few flies in the breakfast room - flying around and walking over the breakfast buffet foods - not nice! Our rooms had a small bath in the en-suite, and it wasn't really possible to stand for a "proper shower" in the bath. Be warned that the stairs are narrow and there is no lift. Watch out for the dog poo in the car park!
Review 51:Nice location - just a few km from Brugges - on a bus route if you're without a car. Rooms were fine - clean and nicely decorated, but some of the bath towels were rather worn. Our rooms were on the top floor overlooking the garden - away from any noise from the road. The whole place has a quaint charm that comes from the antique furniture in the rooms and the 19th Century building. The owners were friendly and welcoming.
Review 52:Nothing that I can think of.
Review 53:Free WiFi! The room was very spacious and the toilet was very clean. The breakfast had a good variety. There is ample parking space too. The hotel is just 10 mins away from Bruges and perfect for visitors to the city.
Review 54:Lovely olde worlde hotel, an easy 8km car journey from the centre of Brugges. The hotel had a lovely feel to it and was beautifully maintained with lots of antique furniture in the public rooms. Breakfast was great with lots of choice and was included in the room rate. The hotel owners were very hospitable and friendly. We were impressed and will definitely return to the hotel next time we visit Brugges.
Review 55:it was a nice hotel in a nice location. But! Their was not enough parking in the hotel car park had to park put on the street for one of my two night stay. And the bathroom int room was the size of a shoe box!
Review 56:It was a nice building, just fare enough out of Brugge to be out of the rat race, but only a five min car ride to the centre of the city. The room I had was nice, clean, the staff was friendly.
Review 57:Unfortunately the bed was made with only a sheet and blanket which was too cold. The small piece of soap in the bathroom was a bit too small. I recommend a small bottle of shower gel instead.
Review 58:A good place to stay over the weekend, close to Brugge. The hotel was like going back in history with its ornaments and choosing of furniture, decorations and classical music. Staff was excellent, very kind, and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic and lots to choose from.
Review 59:Location not a bit like it's photo, it was on a main street with no outside field's like it showed on the web site I do not know how they got the photo they have. It is in the middle of other house's and on a busy road. We were so looking forward to our stay. We were not made to feel welcome at all, on New Year's Eve my partner booked a table for the evening meal, we were down in plenty of time but they had given our table away and were then fully booked. We could only get a meal at a chinese, where we ate the night before as we could not get food in the hotel as they said we were to late, they also did not tell us they were not doing evening meal's on New Year's Day so we had to get a salad from the super market and eat in our room.
Review 60:Not a lot for the money.
Review 61:Friendly Accomodation Personal Location
Review 62:No tea or coffee in the room .
Review 63:Clean and tidy room, old style building, free parking and wifi.

Review 69:Beautiful breakfast, lovely beds/soft pillows and friendly staff.
Review 70:meat smell in the early morning was little unpleasant, other than that we loved it
Review 71:location, staff, food, old style furniture
Review 72:The food is very good and very reasonable.
Review 73:Fantastic breakfast and really friendly staff, and a nice bar !
Review 74:Website promises more than reality offers. Room not up to modern standards and without WIFI and telephone!
Review 75:Breakfast
Review 76:The room was only just large enough for 2 people.
Review 77:The breakfast was great. The staff very friendly and accomodating.
Review 78:a lot of smoking in the small lobby
Review 79:small, nice and clean hotel, great location for a trip in brugge, cheap.
Review 80:Booked it thinking it was in in Damme. It isn't - it's about 6km away.Stairs to second floor are very steep.
Review 81:Friendly hotel, good value.
Review 82:Friendly staff.very quiet and relaxing
