Reviews for Sterling Hotel

Review 1:10% No parking, a lot of homeless person around Hotel. For a single female security outside is crucial, especially walking long distance to vehical or walking animals.

Review 2:I really liked 90% of my experience with Sterling!

Review 3:There was a bug floating in toilet bowl and another bug that had been smashed and smeared on bedroom wall and left there.

Review 4:It was charming cheerful and very welcoming including the receptionist at the desk.

Review 5:We stayed in the Crocker Room, it was very spacious and looked appealing, however when we put our heads down to sleep it sounded like a freight train going through the room, evidently there is a large air duct adjoining the room that runs at all times, consequently we were unable to sleep well.

Review 6:disappointed with the room. stains on the carpet, bathroom sink cracked, bathroom faucet didn't turn off, as well as having either stains or scratches on the tub floor, mold or stains around the tub trim, very small TV set for the location it was installed in comparison to the bed location.

Review 7:the historical venue of the building, with easy access to dinning and bars

Review 8:We were there on a Saturday night, and they host weddings; and they do not enforce at all any "quietness outside" rule with their wedding guests, so it was just noise for most of the night. To be avoided on Saturday nights, if you wish to sleep, in case there's a wedding. Also, breakfast is free for a reason (but then again, it's free).

Review 9:Very, very charming and historical, and yet, almost no comfort trade-off. Decent price. Very nice people.

Review 10:I had to wait 9 mins to check in because no one was at the front desk. Very difficult to get in the shower/tub. Pricey for no fridge.

Review 11:It had an older but huge jet tub.

Review 12:Linnens need an upgrade. Old, but they were clean. Jacuzzi Tub needed replacment, it was cracked so we did not use it. It also bothered me that California is in a drought and the shower head was not a water saver head.

Review 13:The caracter and charm of the house. The staff was great! They were always at hand and very friendly. I felt like we found a real gem.

Review 14:This hotel was absolutely fabulous! The staff was friendly and very helpful, and the hotel itself had a really cool layout. Will definitely return anytime we stay in Sac.

Review 15:We were in town for a marathon and had to wake up very early. We were given a room directly above where a wedding was happening that night. We heard music extremely loud in our room and people outside talking until 2:00am and needed to wake up at 4:00am. When I told an employee the next day he asked if I called down to request earplugs like it was my fault I didn't get any sleep. The way he handled this situation was disrespectful and I would not stay here again.

Review 16:Wifi was intermittent, to say the least. My daughter had to sit in the corridor to get connection. Tv channels hard to figure out as no operating instructions and we didn't know USA channels. Breakfast was not startling although included.

Review 17:The location was great and Curtis was a great staff member who dealt with us brilliantly after a less auspicious start with the afternoon receptionist.

Review 18:We had the room on the top floor overlooking the front and I couldn't see or access the wifi. Not a big deal as I only used it to look up places in the area to eat.

Review 19:Loved the interior and the decoration. Great view from our room @ #300. Located near many restaurants.

Review 20:I couldn't get the wi-fi to work. My ipad didn't see it. Consider having refrigerators in the rooms. My wife didn't like the bedspread. But that is pretty minor.

Review 21:We stayed in room 300. We liked the bay window and the size of the room. We liked the furnishings because they relate to the style of the architecture.

Review 22:There is no ice machines anywhere, and our room had non-working air conditiningwhich made our stay miserable since it was very hot and not all the windows would open, or stay open.

Review 23:The location was nice and we enjoyed the old victorian exterior apperance

Review 24:The restaurant on the website no longer existed. Staff was not available for check in. !st room had windows that didn't lock, missing stopper for bath, luggage rack, only one chair(uncomfortable), air conditioner wouldn't turn off. Nothing functioned properly. 2nd room was better but had horrible beds. Mattress pads had never been washed. Overall condition of hotel was rundown badly. Hotel needs maintenance and investment. Owner-managers would help. Hotel charged $16. per night to park in city parking facility down the block. Overall on A-Fscale grade was F. Will never stay there again. Dave Hakman

Review 25:Outside of hotel was lovely.

Review 26:No restaurant, no room service, no mini bar, no fridge, no microwave, no free parking, no popular restaurants nearby. Besides the Jacuzzi, it was a completely inconvenient 'hotel'. You can't really call it a hotel. It's more like staying at your grandmother's house and she happens to have a Jacuzzi in the bathroom. And she's not serving any meals. And she's charging you up the nose.

Review 27:The Jacuzzi in the room was nice.

Review 28:Great room, we had a Jr. Suite and were very comfortable in it between 4 people. (2 couples) The A/C and Heater worked super well, never had any issues with noise from any other rooms. A great find, and we will use again for future trips.

Review 29:Nothing.......

Review 30:Staff was wonderful, friendly, extremely helpful and accomodating. We felt welcomed and all our needs and requests were promptly attended to. Would stay here again. Location was great for the purposes of our trip, within walking distance to Convention Center and many good restaurants. Continental Bkst was very sufficient.

Review 31:Parking. To self service for the price. Felt like I was in a rooming house. No hot food or protein for breakfast. No room service options. No restaurant recomodations No cabs ?? No restaurant on the premises. No evening wine or gathering. The water pressure was horrible bath was beautiful but it took me 30min to fill the tub !

Review 32:The front desk attendants were pleasant. The house is beautiful.

Review 33:Bath tub was our favorite part

Review 34:No restaurant

Review 35:The room & the staff

Review 36:The breakfast

Review 37:The room

Review 38:Cracks in bathtub and the bed sagged

Review 39:Cute place with tons of character! The staff was amazing super helpful

Review 40:Bed set made too much noise when moving.

Review 41:Bedcomfort. We kept rolling to the middLe.

Review 42:Atmosphere of the hotel

Review 43:Wi fi did not work

Review 44:Beautiful structure and grounds...comfortable bed, jacuzzi in deep tub was most excellent, large room, pleasant views of downtown

Review 45:Friendly, helpful staff and location

Review 46:Cold water valve in wash basin was falling out, and basin itself was badly chipped.

Review 47:Large airy room. Great location.

Review 48:very friendly and helpful staff made me feel at home

Review 49:Customer service was great.

Review 50:Parking on the street. Dirty sheets on the extra bed

Review 51:Very quaint, with lots of ambiance. Good central location. Suite was great. Staff ok. Quiet.

Review 52:The facilities really need to be renovated. Air-conditioning didn't work. TV was not connected. Bathtub was broken. Bed was shaky. Window was cracky...

Review 53:The reception was very helpful and friendly, espeically compared to my experience in San Francisco before arriving in Sacramento. The hotel is located on a very quiet street, but it is also easy to cruise around the city by car or tram.

Review 54:Room a bit worn. Maintenance items in the bathroom -- fan broken, dripping faucet, and more.

Review 55:Large, unique room. Walking distance to State. Capitol, Old Sacramento, etc

Review 56:I did not like the old facilities. The heating unit was old and very loud. The bed was old and uncomfortable. I like the old look but the comforts should still be there. That is what people are used to.

Review 57:I liked the style of the hotel. The Victorian look was excellent.

Review 58:May have an old house dusty air.

Review 59:The mansion building is stunning. Marble floors and mosaic windows in the bathroom also look nice

Review 60:Very poor continental breakfast and parking.

Review 61:Beautiful building and spacious room.

Review 62:The staff were all very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The accomodations were outstanding. All in all a decidedly great experience.
